- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop so Today, I want to talk to
- 0:31you a little bit about why we care so much about what other
- 0:35people think about us. This is been coming up a lot and
- 0:41not in my personal life, but with my clients and I thought it
- 0:44would be worth it to address it with all of you since it seems
- 0:47to be something that's out there floating in the world right now,
- 0:51worrying about what other people are going to think.
- 0:53And I know this is something that's we are hard-wired since
- 0:58you. If you went to middle school,
- 1:00you actually. We understand this sort of such
- 1:03a deep level because anybody who's gone to Middle School,
- 1:06which is all of us. Hopefully get to the fact that
- 1:10you worry about what other people think.
- 1:12You don't want to be that kid. That has that any way to stand
- 1:16out? That isn't in a great way and
- 1:18even the ones who are you know, the ones, the popular kids, they
- 1:22still worried about it, they just didn't do it in the same
- 1:24way. It's Middle School is probably
- 1:27the breeding ground of all true. Rama as far as I'm concerned for
- 1:32so many people because they'll all come back and they'll say,
- 1:35well, when I was in Middle School and I always like note to
- 1:38myself. Gosh, middle school, and my
- 1:40middle school experience was no better.
- 1:42Believe me. I did not enjoy Middle School at
- 1:45all. There's a chunk of time that I
- 1:47could technically say, let's do redo that.
- 1:49It would be middle school for sure.
- 1:51But in any event, we digress, I don't want to go down.
- 1:55Let's go back to the fact of you have to let yourself understand.
- 2:01That there's a part of you, that you, it's hardwired into us to
- 2:06have social behaviors and social cues from other people, because
- 2:10they're important, right? You do want other people to as a
- 2:14society as a thriving species, we look to others to shape us.
- 2:20And part of that can be healthy part of it is healthy but not at
- 2:24the detriment of yourself. Again, this comes back to always
- 2:27being self-aware and really looking at How your processing
- 2:31stuff. There's a really awesome quote
- 2:34from loud Sue who says care what other people think and you will
- 2:38always be their prisoner and boy.
- 2:40Isn't that the truth? I mean, go back even to middle
- 2:43school. I mean I can tell you how many
- 2:45times I heard my father say why do you care what they think?
- 2:47But you know, it's really easy for someone who's in their 40s
- 2:50to be telling somebody who's 10 11 and 12, not to care what
- 2:55other people think and not knowing where that person is in
- 2:59their little mine and Little development.
- 3:01So we all have these issues with this showing up at some point in
- 3:08our life, we become prisoners of other people by giving them the
- 3:12power and allowing what they think to become our reality.
- 3:15So, I'll give you a great example when I was going to
- 3:18shoot when I was going to begin the process of, you know,
- 3:21recording out in the chicken coop, and possibly shooting
- 3:24videos and things out here. I had this whole thing in my
- 3:28head about, well, I wonder what people are going to.
- 3:30I think as a professional who's recording from her chicken coop,
- 3:35and I had to go through this process now.
- 3:37Did it take me a long time? No, it didn't take me a long
- 3:40time because I recognize the information.
- 3:42It was trying to give me, and then I use that information and
- 3:45I came to the conclusion, which is why you're listening to me
- 3:48out in my chicken coop, because this is one of my most happy
- 3:51places I love hanging out with my chickens and granted right
- 3:55now, some of them are here, but a lot of them are far away out
- 3:58free-ranging, having fun, doing, whatever.
- 4:00Doing looking for bugs, but it's nonetheless.
- 4:04I'm still happy to be here with the ones that I have.
- 4:07And this is one of my I have to look at myself.
- 4:12How do I want to say this? I want to look at myself and
- 4:14say, just because this is not the same as what other people
- 4:18like. It doesn't mean that I can't
- 4:20bring it forward and share it with people and let people know
- 4:25that I like it. It's that originality of saying,
- 4:28you know what people are Entitled to their opinions and
- 4:32they can keep their opinions, they can share their opinions
- 4:35but I don't have to keep their opinion.
- 4:37I can decide just like I don't have to keep the garbage in the
- 4:41house every night. If I want to take it out, I can
- 4:43take it out. I don't have to hang on to
- 4:45things, I don't have to make everything a collection and
- 4:48curate, it and least off somebody else's opinions about
- 4:51things and I think where we have become so sensitive to what
- 4:57other people think right now in society we don't To accept
- 5:01ourselves for who we are and where we are.
- 5:04Because we're worried about what other people are going to think.
- 5:07So a lot of us have retreated and just said, well, I'm going
- 5:11to, I'm going to just go down this other Road and isolate
- 5:15myself or I'm going to not truly share who I am and that's fine
- 5:20if you're doing it for the right reason.
- 5:22But if you're doing it to hide, it's never the right reason and
- 5:26it's important to say. No, I'm going to stand in the
- 5:28truth of who I am. I'm going to accept myself for
- 5:31who I am. I'm going to love myself for who
- 5:34I am and I'm going to give myself the grace and the space
- 5:39to cultivate that person into the greatest version of myself
- 5:44that I can be, and not according to what other people think.
- 5:48According to you, you've got to liberate yourself from the
- 5:51thoughts that it matters what anyone else thinks, and maybe
- 5:56you have, you know, that close person in your life like, Have a
- 6:00few close people in my life and I will go to them for their
- 6:04opinions on things. Doesn't mean I'll take them, but
- 6:08I trust them and I'll go to them.
- 6:11And I'll say, okay, what are your thoughts on this?
- 6:13And, you know, my husband being one of them and sometimes he'll
- 6:16say to me, you know, I don't know how that would go.
- 6:18Or I'm not sure about that or he'll give me his opinion,
- 6:21doesn't mean I have to take. It just means that I've checked
- 6:25in. I've gotten some information
- 6:28again, but I don't have to hold on to it.
- 6:30I don't have I've to keep it. So the lesson today, all about
- 6:34accepting yourself for who you are, where you are and giving
- 6:38yourself the freedom that the, the just the peace of mind that
- 6:43I don't care what other people think.
- 6:46And I am no longer going to be a prisoner of anyone is just
- 6:50absolutely freeing. So hopefully today, this is
- 6:53going to be helpful to you and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:56Have a great day guys. Bye.
