  This is team of the 80s and this week I feel that we need to dive in a little bit into the transfer market and see what's good and what's bad and what you're thinking about.

  Because it seems to me every year when it comes to Crystal palace and transfers, we.

  We seem to expect too much or we feel that Parish isn't doing enough.

  But if you look at it over the years since we've been in the Premier League this time.

  2014 we haven't done too badly.

  I'd like to know your thoughts.

  I'd like to know what you feel about Brandon Johnson being swapped for McNeil.

  I've got mixed views about that because there's a player in there in Brendan Johnson.

  He's just very, very low on confidence.

  But he did great at Forest, he did well at Tottenham.

  I don't think it helped when he made his debut with us, to be honest, because was that against Mfield?

  We weren't our best that day and he never seemed to get any better from there.

  I'm interested in what happens on the first game of the season once the team is back, fully back and they've got some type of idea of how the manager is going to play.

  I feel one day our luck's going to run out with managers.

  But again, going back to Crystal palace fans expectations, if they really do expect us with Our money to compete highly in the Europa cup and in the Premier League.

  Trust me, yeah, we won Europe per conference.

  But for me, I'd rather stay in the Premier League year in, year out than risk injury to our squad.

  So then the first year, 2014, we got Wolf back off of Man United on loan.

  Fraser Campbell, who promised a lot.

  Martin Kelly, who always did well for us, I felt.

  And the big one for that for me was James MacArthur who had an incredible career at Palace.

  2015, we got Connor Wickham who's always injured, and then years after that, the next year I think we got Kabay in Connor Wickham, Conor Gallagher, Benteke.

  We've had some great players come through Sacco and then obviously we're going to get into the essays and the Elise's.

  We've had some really good players come through the door, trust me.

  For a club like Crystal palace, we were punching above our weight there, trust me.

  That year, 2017, we got Patrick Van Arnhold.

  I can't remember big Sam, but he did a great job for us.

  Jordan got a lot of stick, Jordan iu, but he did a great job for us, getting us up the pitch, drawing fouls, moving us up.

  You know, and I've said this in a few podcasts and if you haven't heard it, I just want everybody to hear my opinion on Zaha.

  I thought he was a very, very good Crystal palace player.

  I never, ever felt he was better than that.

  I always felt that his finishing was dreadful, his crossing was dreadful.

  And if you're a forward and you're playing with him, like when Ben Techie was playing with him, who relies on balls into the box?

  You never knew whether the ball was going to come into the box.

  So you didn't.

  In the end, you just stopped making your runs.

  So Zaha again was really good at getting us up the pitch, drawing fouls, giving the midfield and the defense a.

  But apart from that, I thought he flattered to deceive, not taking away anything he did for the club.

  He was a great servant for the club and exciting when he was on his day.

  But for me, he was off his day a lot more than he was on his day.

  And yeah, and again, transfers, people we've had in Kabay, what a player he was.

  We forget, you know, we talk about our midfield players these days are Walton, what a player.

  Johan Kabay was magnificent for Crystal Palace.

  What a job he's done for us.

  Always reliable, always puts a foot in Mateta.

  You know, when we talk about players like Johnson and I'm not going to say Franca, because for me, Franca is never going to be strong enough in the Premier League physically.

  But when we talk about players making it and coming good.

  And we were slagging off Brendan Johnson, if you can make a player out of Mateta, you can make a player out of anyone.

  Because Mateta was useless, like, terrible.

  He couldn't hit a barn door and all of a sudden he came into a player and now.

  Well, now he blows hot and cold.

  Now he's not so dissimilar from what we got when we started.

  I don't think so.

  He's a handful, but I think defenders have found out how to play him.

  He never got close in the World Cup.

  Well, how's he going to get close in the World cup replacing Mbappe.

  You know, Mbappe is like when Matteo replaces Mbappe.

  And I've said this a couple of times too, it's like dumping Heidi Kluman and going out within the Sharpels.

  I mean, there's such a disparity between the two players.

  It's a joke.

  But going back to our transfers, we haven't done bad in the transfer market over the years.

  You know, we've, we've, we've.

  Steve Parish has invested what he can invest.

  He's always made it like we've been competitive without overstretching our budget.

  And again, if you, as a Crystal palace supporter, expect Crystal palace to be any higher than 10th, then you're kidding yourself.

  We just do not have that financial clout anymore.

  And if even nowadays with the new rules, even if an investor did come in and you can't do that anymore because the top six clubs have made it that way, they don't want to be threatened in any way.

  And now, you know, it's going to be very, very tough that the days of the Leicesters coming along and winning the league, they're long gone.

  That's never gonna happen.

  That happened once and then after that the top six said that we're not going to let that happen again and it won't happen again.

  So let's not be too harsh on Steve Parish.

  I think he does a great job.

  I think he's done a fantastic job for Crystal palace, obviously, to keep us in the Premier League.

  And let's not be too expectant, all right?

  Because sometimes being too expectant, you know, can shoot you in the ass.

  And remember what happened to Stoke City when their fans were always up in arms, oh, we should be doing this, should be doing that, should be playing that way.

  Stoke have never come back and it's tough getting out of that championship.

  Trust me, as we know, we've been up and down it a few times and that league doesn't get any easier to get out of.

  And when they do get out of it, it's hard to stay in the Premier League, you know.

  So again, I think it's only us and Everton out the top six clubs that have stayed in the Premier League for this amount of time.

  So we should be very thankful.

  I think we'll end up in the lower part of the table or mid table, and I'm fine with that.

  I have no expectations about us doing well in Europa League, none There's some great teams in there.
