- 0:11Speaker 2: When I first stabbed the throttle in that and it
- 0:14Speaker 2: almost pulled my face off, I was like, what.
- 0:16Speaker 3: The hell is this?
- 0:18Speaker 4: You can just tell he's living and breeding those revs.
- 0:20Speaker 5: Oh she sounds horny for you, mate, Jesus.
- 0:23Speaker 1: The Driver's Show with Paul Marrick and Gordy Waters.
- 0:34Speaker 5: This is our first episode of the friggin' year.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I know it's already the it's we're ready in feb
- 0:42Speaker 3: Isn't that great?
- 0:42Speaker 5: Okay, it's already fair.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Sorry I've been absent. Yeah, daddy's been working.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Daddy has been working. Not pay the bills, not very hard.
- 0:50Speaker 5: Are you? Are you in the Is that the work offers?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yes?
- 0:55Speaker 2: No, this is our work office expert and the Porsche.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Yeah, over here on the wall.
- 1:02Speaker 5: Just the tip, just the tip facing face in the
- 1:05Speaker 5: other head.
- 1:06Speaker 3: It's the place to be. Yeah, it is a place
- 1:09Speaker 3: to be.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Yeah, it looks like it looks like a commission house
- 1:12Speaker 5: in that corner.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Yeah, what Victoria.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Yeah, it looks like one of the buildings. It looks
- 1:18Speaker 5: like where they talk Commission flats in South Melbourne.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Yeah, one of the ones that Dan knocked up.
- 1:25Speaker 5: I thought he knocked him down. Still still good on him.
- 1:29Speaker 5: I wonder how he's gone. How are you guying? Let
- 1:31Speaker 5: let's talk business, because we haven't chatted for a while.
- 1:34Speaker 5: There was a fight, there wasn't a fight, but summer happened.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Summer was glorious.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I didn't haircut.
- 1:42Speaker 5: I didn't know. It's my lack of haircut.
- 1:44Speaker 3: It's a it's a thing that haircut.
- 1:48Speaker 5: Yeah. I got the inspiration from Donna's bush.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's mattered and just it dieing need of attention.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Where you would know do you know what I've been
- 2:01Speaker 5: looking at some of your car videos reluctantly, what is
- 2:05Speaker 5: going on? Speaking of matted and needing attention? What is
- 2:10Speaker 5: going on with the fly situation? And you're proving the
- 2:14Speaker 5: ground like there are something several dead bodies or Donna
- 2:19Speaker 5: hasn't put her undies on.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah, at this mixture of both. So basically we
- 2:25Speaker 2: just keep getting comments. You know, put some arrow guard on.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Erowguard does absolutely nothing out there. We've tried Erroguard Bushman's
- 2:36Speaker 2: Nature's Botanical. I end up literally leaving with this like
- 2:41Speaker 2: satin glow because I have about ten layers of product
- 2:45Speaker 2: on me that the flies just look at and go
- 2:47Speaker 2: a nice.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Try, Champion. So yeah, it's it's absolutely fucked at the moment.
- 2:52Speaker 5: What is going on? Like it honestly looks like you're
- 2:55Speaker 5: filming in a third world country. Have you thought about
- 2:58Speaker 5: what Victoria the situation is, Well, you're not far off it.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yeah, So there's basically farms just nearby, and basically with
- 3:09Speaker 2: the farms, it just seems to attract flies that you know,
- 3:12Speaker 2: fester on all the shit that the.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Cows leave on the ground.
- 3:16Speaker 2: We have these you know in viro safe canister things
- 3:20Speaker 2: that we fill up and they just end up being
- 3:22Speaker 2: full of maggots and flies after hours. Like it is
- 3:26Speaker 2: out of I just can't even describe how bad it is.
- 3:30Speaker 3: It's on enough level.
- 3:31Speaker 2: If you've ever been to Central Australia, like to airs
- 3:33Speaker 2: Rock during like summer when it is actually hot there,
- 3:38Speaker 2: it is just insane.
- 3:40Speaker 3: It is just like that.
- 3:41Speaker 5: So yeah, yeah, I don't think anything can deal with that.
- 3:44Speaker 5: I don't think anything can deal with that. You could,
- 3:47Speaker 5: you could probably look at Donna's Venus fly trap.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yes, that's trapped a few and it's time.
- 3:55Speaker 5: It just looks like a Demi Gordon Gorgan. Oh wait,
- 3:58Speaker 5: that's a butthole.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Time.
- 4:05Speaker 5: That's pavely.
- 4:08Speaker 3: But it's great.
- 4:08Speaker 2: We there's like in the chalet, which is like the
- 4:12Speaker 2: building that we use. That's just what it's named that
- 4:18Speaker 2: they named it that. But it's full of like huntsmen
- 4:20Speaker 2: spiders and they love it because they feast on flies.
- 4:24Speaker 2: They what I learned just by observation, they don't have webs.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It's what they do is they sit there and they
- 4:30Speaker 2: can sit still for like days, and then when the
- 4:33Speaker 2: flies come, they just literally will just slowly move over
- 4:36Speaker 2: to where the fly is and then just run sideways
- 4:40Speaker 2: and just eat the fly. So these guys just feast
- 4:43Speaker 2: on these flies. So whenever they come inside the building,
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'm like, no, no, you just follow me, Champ, because you're
- 4:47Speaker 2: about to get muled by about seven of these Huntsmen spiders.
- 4:51Speaker 2: So it is fantastic to watch. So yeah, anyway, anyway, cars.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Cars, have you driven anything fun? Do we dive into
- 5:01Speaker 5: the actual cars, Like what sort of cars have you
- 5:04Speaker 5: kind of been jumping in? What's been what's been tickling
- 5:07Speaker 5: the pavlat pickle?
- 5:09Speaker 3: You know what?
- 5:09Speaker 2: Over Chrissy, I spent time in the Volvo X ninety
- 5:13Speaker 2: so that is the full electric seven seat Volvo, and
- 5:17Speaker 2: I'll tell you what.
- 5:17Speaker 3: While the pricing I think.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Is a little expensive, the car itself and the sound
- 5:22Speaker 2: system is on another planet. I've reviewed, have been reviewing
- 5:26Speaker 2: cars now for like twenty years, and this is well
- 5:29Speaker 2: and truly the best sound system in any car I've
- 5:32Speaker 2: ever tested. So in the top spec version, they have
- 5:36Speaker 2: a thing it's called the Ultra. It's a Bouts and
- 5:38Speaker 2: Wilkins sound system, like eighteen hundred watts. It's got immersives
- 5:42Speaker 2: to round sound through the headrests. It is genuinely spectacular.
- 5:47Speaker 2: They've done such a good job and actually have this
- 5:49Speaker 2: sound profile called Abbey Road or Abbey Road Studios, where
- 5:54Speaker 2: actually sampled the sound at Abbey Road Studios and use
- 5:58Speaker 2: it within the car. So basically the theory is that
- 6:01Speaker 2: any music that is recorded at Abbey Road they're able
- 6:06Speaker 2: to translate to the car to make you feel like
- 6:10Speaker 2: you're there.
- 6:10Speaker 3: So it's pretty cool.
- 6:13Speaker 5: As a muso yourself, I was going to say, what
- 6:15Speaker 5: do you listen? What do you listen to, because I mean,
- 6:19Speaker 5: apart from our podcast, I can't imagine, guess any sort.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Of I don't listen to the shrieking noise when STEP's on,
- 6:26Speaker 2: but I try and or is that you?
- 6:28Speaker 3: I don't know where that comes from.
- 6:30Speaker 2: But talking about Young Day's flight track, what what music
- 6:37Speaker 2: do you think.
- 6:38Speaker 3: I listened to? Because I'm just curious to know.
- 6:40Speaker 5: I think you would listen to some year old time
- 6:43Speaker 5: village Croatian music.
- 6:46Speaker 3: From t.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Know at this time for Pablo's.
- 6:54Speaker 6: Flute, No, it is time for another song.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Well, if you get a yugo with surround sound, that
- 7:13Speaker 2: that tune kind of goes okay? Yeah, but really, what
- 7:17Speaker 2: aside from folk music traditional folk music, what do you
- 7:19Speaker 2: think I listened to?
- 7:20Speaker 5: Have you lost a couple of CAGs?
- 7:22Speaker 3: No, man, I've just been working out black shop.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, thanks for noticing my way too. But that's okay,
- 7:30Speaker 5: that's the hair, that's yeah. Maybe yeah, maybe probably you'd
- 7:37Speaker 5: probably listen to a bit of Bad Buddy after the
- 7:39Speaker 5: super Bowl. You're like, oh, like that Latin American stuff.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I don't know what bad Buddy is, but what about
- 7:49Speaker 2: I listened to a little bit of everything, So my, my,
- 7:53Speaker 2: the tune that really.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Who cares number? Anyway, I'm kidding what you're listening.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I'd get mashed a bit of everything, a bit of everything,
- 8:02Speaker 2: bit of Ramstein, a bit of Metallica, Highest Pearl jam Dost. Yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 2: I don't know, a bit of everything, bit of dance,
- 8:12Speaker 2: sort of trance music.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I just like a bit of everything. I'm not like you.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I don't just listen to Justin Bieber and whatever else
- 8:18Speaker 2: is on your radio program.
- 8:20Speaker 5: Just going through your Spotify playlist here, Oh, you do
- 8:25Speaker 5: have some weird choices. Ramstein is your top for Spotify rap.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Second is World War two nineteen forties music. Okay, that's
- 8:36Speaker 5: that's weird anyway. A bit of Ramstein that's fucking throwing me.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Darss dna ZUPA. Hey. You know something we're both hopped
- 8:55Speaker 5: in and probably listened to a bit of Ramstein together
- 8:58Speaker 5: is the twenty twenty six MG seven. Yeah, Billy, can
- 9:04Speaker 5: I ask you first impressions of that interior? Geez, because
- 9:08Speaker 5: we're the same pretty much the same car.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Look it is out there, as was sort of that
- 9:14Speaker 2: burgundy sort of in your face sort of thing.
- 9:17Speaker 3: But the thing that got me first was when.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I unlocked it and the transformer spoiler sort of rose
- 9:23Speaker 2: from the boot. I thought that was pretty out there.
- 9:26Speaker 2: You see that sort of spoilered it. I last see that.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I'm not a Pana mirror like it is literally a
- 9:31Speaker 2: Porsche spoiler. They've just stuck in this, you know, forty
- 9:34Speaker 2: thousand dollars car. I think the thing that impressed me
- 9:37Speaker 2: the most. I wasn't sort of sure what to expect
- 9:41Speaker 2: because it's detuned compared to the Chinese version. Up until recently,
- 9:45Speaker 2: we actually had quite a high sulfur content in our
- 9:48Speaker 2: regular un leaded fuel, and it meant that a lot
- 9:50Speaker 2: of manufacturers wouldn't bring certain engines to Australia because our
- 9:55Speaker 2: fuel quality.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Wasn't up to scratch.
- 9:57Speaker 2: So now that that has been fixed, actors are bringing
- 10:00Speaker 2: in the full fat versions of their engines because they
- 10:03Speaker 2: know that, you know, the engine went disintegrate because of
- 10:05Speaker 2: our sulfur content. What surprised me with that was despite
- 10:09Speaker 2: the fact that it is de tuned, it still goes
- 10:11Speaker 2: like shit off a shovel, like they've got an elsdfitted
- 10:14Speaker 2: to it. It's got a sort of raspy little exhaust,
- 10:18Speaker 2: It's got plenty of punch. For what it is, and
- 10:19Speaker 2: it really is reminiscent of something like the thirty sid
- 10:22Speaker 2: and in line. I think that they've really struck a
- 10:24Speaker 2: good balance there. Yeah, I think it's a good all rounder.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Yeah. I thought it was a good car too. I
- 10:29Speaker 5: thought that the I didn't find it as punchy as
- 10:34Speaker 5: you know, impressively punchy as maybe you did. I thought
- 10:37Speaker 5: they could have done a lot more with that. I mean,
- 10:40Speaker 5: I'm not that's the thing. It's that they've detuned it.
- 10:43Speaker 5: So that's why I was like, you know, for what.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It is, it's it's it's okay, but can you imagine
- 10:48Speaker 2: if it had like an extra twenty killer lots of power,
- 10:50Speaker 2: which is kind of what they've detuned it from, and
- 10:52Speaker 2: it actually be pretty pretty crazy.
- 10:55Speaker 5: Yeah, you're not getting like a golf R or anything
- 10:57Speaker 5: like that inside there, but you're getting like some that's
- 11:00Speaker 5: I guess warm to hot. You know, it's a mid
- 11:04Speaker 5: sized sedan. I think it looks the part on the outside.
- 11:06Speaker 5: The design looks sweet. It looks really good. That spoilers great.
- 11:10Speaker 5: I mean, for what around forty five thousand before drive away,
- 11:14Speaker 5: you get in a lot of car two leter turbocharged
- 11:17Speaker 5: four cylinder roughly, I think it was about three hundred
- 11:21Speaker 5: and eighty meters talk I can't remember, but it is
- 11:26Speaker 5: all round a great little mid sized sedan. And I'll
- 11:28Speaker 5: tell you what was really a standout in this compared
- 11:31Speaker 5: to a few MG products that I've tested recently, is
- 11:34Speaker 5: the software in it. Like I loved how when you
- 11:38Speaker 5: can change it to normal echo sport or whatever and
- 11:41Speaker 5: then I don't know what they call it super sport
- 11:43Speaker 5: or you push the button.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you had like custom settings so you could actually
- 11:48Speaker 2: they had like a little spider spider graph style thing
- 11:52Speaker 2: that you could actually move things around the bubble so
- 11:55Speaker 2: that you could have like sort of limited stability control,
- 11:59Speaker 2: full exult soft steering, and you could just control every
- 12:03Speaker 2: element of this. And I think to me, normally they
- 12:06Speaker 2: only fit alsds to fairly high end sporting cars like
- 12:10Speaker 2: a Golf GTI or something. In fact that they've been
- 12:13Speaker 2: able to cram it into this most cars in this
- 12:15Speaker 2: segment are just going to be using a standard sort
- 12:18Speaker 2: of brake traction control system. If that isn't anywhere you're
- 12:21Speaker 2: as sophisticated as a proper RAILSD that this has. So
- 12:24Speaker 2: it means that when you're coming out of a corner
- 12:25Speaker 2: and you lay the throttle in, it will actually hook up.
- 12:27Speaker 2: You're not going to be spinning up an inside wheel.
- 12:29Speaker 2: So that tech alone is worth a whole lot more
- 12:32Speaker 2: than the price tag would suggest. So yeah, I was
- 12:35Speaker 2: pretty surprised, but I didn't think it'd be anywhere near
- 12:37Speaker 2: as sort of engaging as it was, And I think
- 12:39Speaker 2: for that kind of money, they've actually done a pretty
- 12:42Speaker 2: decent job with it.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree. I think everything is in this that
- 12:45Speaker 5: you'd want. I mean, this is what a forty five
- 12:47Speaker 5: thousand dollars car should look like. You know, it's the interior,
- 12:51Speaker 5: even the burgundy. It's got like a bit of a
- 12:53Speaker 5: porn star vibe about it. But I like it. I
- 12:55Speaker 5: really think it's I like that they're taking a ballsy
- 13:00Speaker 5: kind of bravery to this sort of stuff because you
- 13:03Speaker 5: don't see it a lot, you know what I mean.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that stuff's technically dead with every other brand, but
- 13:08Speaker 2: here they are releasing something that no one else is
- 13:11Speaker 2: really doing. So it's good to see them being a
- 13:12Speaker 2: little adventurous instead of just rolling out yet another suv
- 13:16Speaker 2: that just is just like every other suv. This is
- 13:18Speaker 2: kind of a little out there and it shows you.
- 13:20Speaker 2: It kind of goes back to where MG was when
- 13:23Speaker 2: it was you know, sportier cars. You know, they're out
- 13:27Speaker 2: back at sort of experimenting with a bit of that,
- 13:29Speaker 2: which is cool.
- 13:30Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think that's what they've been doing a
- 13:32Speaker 5: little bit. I mean that ev what was that cyberst
- 13:34Speaker 5: or whatever. I mean, yeah, I know that's a niche car,
- 13:37Speaker 5: but again, it's kind of cool that they're doing that
- 13:40Speaker 5: sort of stuff that they're sort of releasing just out
- 13:45Speaker 5: their unique.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Cars, you know, yeah, yeah, totally.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Speaking of MG, the IM five Performance, I just spent
- 13:52Speaker 5: a week with that, with that old girl.
- 13:54Speaker 3: That thing.
- 13:55Speaker 2: When I first stabbed the throttle in that and it
- 13:58Speaker 2: almost pulled my face off, I was like, what the
- 14:01Speaker 2: hell is this? It is so fast? I was not
- 14:04Speaker 2: expecting that.
- 14:05Speaker 5: I do not want a faster car than the IM
- 14:10Speaker 5: five Performance. It's so quick. It's so quick, and because
- 14:14Speaker 5: it's it's that linear EV talk, it's just such a
- 14:20Speaker 5: different feel. And it doesn't it doesn't give up either,
- 14:23Speaker 5: like you think, whoa, okay, all right, here we go.
- 14:25Speaker 5: It just keeps going and going and gets ballistically quick.
- 14:30Speaker 5: What do you think of the design?
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yeah, look, the design I know styling is subjective, but
- 14:35Speaker 2: while the outside was okay, I just thought.
- 14:37Speaker 3: The inside was a bit.
- 14:38Speaker 2: It was just a bit much and I found it
- 14:41Speaker 2: all just a little bit confusing to have, you know,
- 14:44Speaker 2: getting through the menus and stuff.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I just it was just a lot going on.
- 14:48Speaker 2: And perhaps on they ended a bit more time with
- 14:49Speaker 2: the car, but it was there was just a lot happening,
- 14:51Speaker 2: So to me it was kind of a bit it
- 14:54Speaker 2: was a bit full on. But I think as an
- 14:56Speaker 2: owner of the car, you'd eventually get used to it.
- 14:57Speaker 2: You'd understand all the little bits and pieces, just the
- 15:00Speaker 2: screens being everywhere and having to fat around with them
- 15:03Speaker 2: to do basic things. I thought the Bride was a
- 15:06Speaker 2: little bit sloppy as well, like it was more catered
- 15:08Speaker 2: towards softness, so when you really sort of got stuck
- 15:11Speaker 2: into it, it just didn't feel as capable.
- 15:15Speaker 3: As it could be as a sports vehicle. So it
- 15:16Speaker 3: does feel like it really just gone.
- 15:18Speaker 5: It feels like a big, gt kind of sit down
- 15:21Speaker 5: eating exactly. It is a bit like that they're styling
- 15:25Speaker 5: on the outside. I thought the exterior is quite nice.
- 15:27Speaker 5: I mean I saw many pictures and videos of that,
- 15:30Speaker 5: and I was a bit sort of h E. I
- 15:34Speaker 5: think this is one of those occasions where it definitely
- 15:36Speaker 5: looks a lot better in the flesh. It's got a
- 15:38Speaker 5: lot of presidents, it terms a lot of heads. I
- 15:41Speaker 5: can tell you right now.
- 15:42Speaker 2: People don't know what it is. Yeah, that's the problem.
- 15:44Speaker 2: You drive around, it turns heads, but people don't know
- 15:47Speaker 2: what it is. And I think that's probably the.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Biggest issue they've got.
- 15:50Speaker 2: People you see it and you're like, oh, that car
- 15:52Speaker 2: is cool, and you're like, what the hell was that?
- 15:54Speaker 3: And it's got no real identification of kind of what
- 15:58Speaker 3: it is.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And I think that probably the biggest miss here that
- 16:01Speaker 2: it is tricky to understand what the car is if
- 16:03Speaker 2: you're just sort of catching it at a glance.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Yeah, people aren't realizing like the I am, I guess
- 16:08Speaker 5: is the luxury derivative of MG, kind of like Lexus
- 16:12Speaker 5: is to Toyota. I can tell you this. All the
- 16:16Speaker 5: screens and the I feel like this car almost has
- 16:18Speaker 5: its own driving language in it because inside, like the
- 16:21Speaker 5: stalk is very different to a lot of cars. I mean,
- 16:24Speaker 5: it's sort of maybe a bit similar to the Yan
- 16:28Speaker 5: Day products where you have the stalk for but you've
- 16:31Speaker 5: literally got two storks. Right hand side is your gear selector,
- 16:34Speaker 5: and it's you're just kind of turning it and after
- 16:37Speaker 5: a while it's this language. You kind of speak it
- 16:40Speaker 5: fluently because you're kind of going, okay, forward backwards. The
- 16:44Speaker 5: left is going to be indicators, and the wiper as well,
- 16:47Speaker 5: which is just a push button in. It's all very
- 16:49Speaker 5: kind of Once you know that these are the two
- 16:53Speaker 5: simple tasks that these things do, you do get used
- 16:56Speaker 5: to it. The visibility in that rear window is non
- 17:01Speaker 5: exist That.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Was actually the thing, Yeah, that was the thing that
- 17:04Speaker 2: annoyed me the most. Yeah, just not being able to
- 17:06Speaker 2: see out the back of it. And I think that
- 17:07Speaker 2: is a massive miss, and especially the fact that you
- 17:11Speaker 2: you don't have like a digital review mirror to properly
- 17:14Speaker 2: look out of it.
- 17:15Speaker 3: That would have been an easy fix for that.
- 17:17Speaker 5: But I'm surprised that I'm surprised that they didn't do
- 17:19Speaker 5: that like that. They should.
- 17:21Speaker 3: It's just the most obvious thing.
- 17:22Speaker 5: They should have just completely done what the Polster do.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Blacked it all out, do you know, that's it, and
- 17:28Speaker 5: put a camera on there because there's no point in
- 17:31Speaker 5: having there. I tear one thing that blew my mind,
- 17:34Speaker 5: and this thing does really well. And I surprise, I'm
- 17:38Speaker 5: surprising myself by saying this out loud. The self parking
- 17:42Speaker 5: feature on this I think it's great. Did you test it?
- 17:45Speaker 2: No? You see, for me, self parking is putting it
- 17:48Speaker 2: in reverse and just doing it myself. But I can
- 17:50Speaker 2: see why someone like you with that hair cutted like assistance.
- 17:54Speaker 5: I knew you were going to say that. I knew
- 17:55Speaker 5: you were going to say that. I just think, like
- 17:57Speaker 5: with the way the zero visibility in the back window there,
- 18:02Speaker 5: you kind of need this thing. And at the start
- 18:05Speaker 5: I sort of thought, here we go, this is going
- 18:07Speaker 5: to be a real gimmick. Like this is self parking.
- 18:10Speaker 5: It's not a case of should this be here. They're
- 18:13Speaker 5: putting it because it can be here after a while. Though,
- 18:17Speaker 5: like using some of these car parks that I've got
- 18:19Speaker 5: a park in which are very fucking cramped and all
- 18:22Speaker 5: that sort of stuff, it is as easy as anything.
- 18:26Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, it's easy to fucking do a normal park,
- 18:29Speaker 5: but when you're just like sitting there board shitless or whatever,
- 18:32Speaker 5: and it's actually really amazing. They should be implementing these
- 18:36Speaker 5: in a lot. My mum would fucking use it all
- 18:38Speaker 5: the time, so yes, the performance on this is ballistic,
- 18:41Speaker 5: the way the stalks go, it's it does take a
- 18:45Speaker 5: bit of time to getting to getting used to it.
- 18:47Speaker 5: The parking feature is really cool. What I do love
- 18:49Speaker 5: is those middle screens are customizable, so when you do
- 18:53Speaker 5: get used to this car a little bit, things like
- 18:55Speaker 5: throwing it in sports mode is as simple as you've
- 18:57Speaker 5: already put a little toggle on the middle screen there,
- 19:00Speaker 5: so it's all kind of there. It's all ready to go.
- 19:03Speaker 5: I think it's one of those cars where if you're
- 19:06Speaker 5: owning it, you'll get it, although you might not be
- 19:09Speaker 5: able to get it in this variant for very much longer,
- 19:11Speaker 5: if those little pop out door handles or anything to
- 19:14Speaker 5: go by, because we're going to talk about that a
- 19:16Speaker 5: bit later. China is ruling those little things out, but
- 19:21Speaker 5: we'll get to that. Can I just do a quick
- 19:24Speaker 5: shout out? No, okay, good, let's move on? No? Do
- 19:29Speaker 5: you know what? I want to quickly shout out to
- 19:31Speaker 5: Yon Day, to the good folk at Young Day. So
- 19:33Speaker 5: I've been in their Santa fe right, so I had
- 19:37Speaker 5: that for most of the summer, and it's just it's
- 19:43Speaker 5: just a base. It's a base bush and you know
- 19:46Speaker 5: what you really I was thinking about this thing. You
- 19:49Speaker 5: get a lot of car for fifty what fifty grand
- 19:51Speaker 5: fifty five maybe to drive away, but roughly about fifty
- 19:54Speaker 5: thousand bucks. This thing is. It doesn't look cheap. It
- 19:58Speaker 5: still looks like the top speck on the outside at
- 20:02Speaker 5: least anyway.
- 20:03Speaker 7: Yeah, a seven seats that Santa fe It is such
- 20:07Speaker 7: a big case if you compare it to the old one.
- 20:10Speaker 7: It was just such a big change in terms of
- 20:13Speaker 7: styling but also size, and I think that you are
- 20:16Speaker 7: getting incredible value for money with it.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, seven seats. Like I'm driving, I'm driving this
- 20:24Speaker 5: thing around and it's got cloth seats, and you know
- 20:27Speaker 5: how I feel about cloth seats. I like something I
- 20:29Speaker 5: can easily wipe down, like I like to remove the evidence,
- 20:33Speaker 5: you know what I mean.
- 20:34Speaker 3: You're not added to it.
- 20:35Speaker 5: No, especially when Trevor's in the car. I mean he's
- 20:38Speaker 5: just like he's got ibs. He has one dodgy sausage roll,
- 20:44Speaker 5: which he does. There's quite a bit of sharding going on.
- 20:49Speaker 5: So yeah, like the little checkered cloth seats that I've
- 20:51Speaker 5: got going on in there, quite like them, quite stylish.
- 20:54Speaker 5: I mean, it's still got like the same engine you're
- 20:57Speaker 5: pretty much get to get in a top spec. You've
- 20:59Speaker 5: still got heated seeds in this thing, seven of them
- 21:02Speaker 5: as well. You get in seven seeds. A lot of
- 21:05Speaker 5: the time we talk about what we don't get in
- 21:08Speaker 5: some of these base models. It just doesn't feel like
- 21:11Speaker 5: it lacks anything. It feels like the sort of family
- 21:14Speaker 5: car you could still do road trips, still pick up
- 21:16Speaker 5: the kids, still put all the shit that you're not
- 21:18Speaker 5: going to use when you buy this crap at Bunnings.
- 21:21Speaker 5: You know, it just feels like a really decent buy.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I completely agree. I think that it's one
- 21:29Speaker 2: of those surprise packages. I think it's just the styling
- 21:31Speaker 2: that's just a bit much for people. And I think
- 21:33Speaker 2: they're actually already working on an update for it. We
- 21:35Speaker 2: saw some spy photos of that testing, i think in
- 21:38Speaker 2: the States, so I think they've taken that feedback on
- 21:40Speaker 2: board and they're refining it a bit. And I think
- 21:42Speaker 2: they're a little gun shy after the I X six
- 21:46Speaker 2: and how that sort of looked and.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Still looks effectively. I think that was the biggest issue
- 21:52Speaker 3: for them.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I think they don't really want to stick with some
- 21:55Speaker 2: of that adventurous stuff.
- 21:56Speaker 5: I think what they'll probably do with the design language
- 21:58Speaker 5: a little bit is match it more towards the palisade. Yeah,
- 22:03Speaker 5: they'll match it more to the palisade a little bit.
- 22:05Speaker 5: They'll do something with those really sharp headlights at the back, and.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the palisade actually looks decent. You look
- 22:11Speaker 2: at some of the cars in their range and they're
- 22:12Speaker 2: all just quite a bit out there where Palisade has
- 22:15Speaker 2: that sort of decent vibe to it. It looks sort
- 22:17Speaker 2: of very big and impressive as well. It's it's a
- 22:20Speaker 2: very sort of different looking vehicle.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Very much like myself, just big and impressive.
- 22:25Speaker 3: With that haircut. Haircut's big and impressive.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Do you know one thing we're not going to agree
- 22:31Speaker 5: on the Ferrari Lucee So.
- 22:34Speaker 3: The interior we're not going to agree.
- 22:37Speaker 5: Well, because here's the thing. The designs have been like
- 22:40Speaker 5: the interior shots have come out. These are I think
- 22:44Speaker 5: Ferrari got the people who used to work for Apple
- 22:47Speaker 5: and who were responsible for things like the iPhone, the
- 22:53Speaker 5: what is it the fucking iMac. I've got like a
- 22:55Speaker 5: lot of Apple products and I don't even know the
- 22:57Speaker 5: name of them. What is it? The iMac, the fucking
- 23:00Speaker 5: something like that. Yeah, the eye laptop, all those sorts
- 23:07Speaker 5: of bits and pieces, and you can actually see it,
- 23:09Speaker 5: you can really like you can. You look at the
- 23:12Speaker 5: I think one of them is actually an AUSI designer too.
- 23:15Speaker 5: But you look at these interior shots that are coming
- 23:18Speaker 5: out and the materials and the brush metal and all
- 23:22Speaker 5: that sort of stuff, it looks very iPhone ish, you
- 23:24Speaker 5: know what I mean.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. I have no issues with the
- 23:27Speaker 2: actual design. I think all the design elements look fantastic.
- 23:31Speaker 2: The problem is that they should have all of those
- 23:34Speaker 2: design elements in their other cars. At the moment you
- 23:37Speaker 2: go buy the new Testossa and it's just full of
- 23:40Speaker 2: screens and all this stuff that ferrari and has already
- 23:43Speaker 2: told them they don't want. So why would you then
- 23:45Speaker 2: go put analog gauges in the electric car? Why don't
- 23:47Speaker 2: put the analog gauges in the internal combustion stuff that
- 23:50Speaker 2: people are still buying. That's the thing I just don't get.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Unless they're planning on taking that blue che design and
- 23:56Speaker 2: putting it in the rest of their cars, yeah, then
- 23:58Speaker 2: you know, great, But I just don't think that's the case.
- 24:01Speaker 2: And I think here they've gone really adventurous with the styling,
- 24:04Speaker 2: and the styling in my mind.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Works works well. It's just cool and different to every
- 24:08Speaker 3: other car on the road. But I just don't know
- 24:10Speaker 3: that this is the correct car to be applying it on.
- 24:12Speaker 5: I think it's the right car to be applying it on.
- 24:15Speaker 5: I think if you're going to do anything, I mean,
- 24:17Speaker 5: they're going with an EV like a car that's already
- 24:21Speaker 5: turned up the nose of so many purists. I think
- 24:25Speaker 5: if you're going to put a try anything bold one,
- 24:28Speaker 5: they're doing that by making an EV. Anyway, Secondly, they
- 24:31Speaker 5: may as well fill it with something that is I
- 24:34Speaker 5: won't even say risky. I would just sort of say
- 24:37Speaker 5: a completely new design language, do you know what I mean?
- 24:40Speaker 5: Like why fucking take the RESK.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I just think the EV is a mistake to start with.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Because you can insert any brand name from China. It
- 24:49Speaker 2: will be faster than the Ferrari guaranteed, it will probably
- 24:52Speaker 2: handle better because it doesn't need to have all the
- 24:55Speaker 2: luxury stuff that the Ferrari needs to be able to accept.
- 24:58Speaker 2: So I think they're making an EV is just a
- 25:00Speaker 2: pointless exercise. But I know that they have to do it.
- 25:04Speaker 2: I just said that it is going to be a
- 25:05Speaker 2: big problem.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Well, I mean, when you're forced to do something, Fuck,
- 25:09Speaker 5: they've got what do you what do you want them
- 25:10Speaker 5: to do? They're forced to do it. They've kind of
- 25:12Speaker 5: got to do it.
- 25:13Speaker 3: You don't have to make an EV.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Well you don't have to, Jesus, you're going to fall
- 25:16Speaker 5: behind a lot like and who knows.
- 25:18Speaker 3: You're not falling behind because your owners aren't going to
- 25:21Speaker 3: buy it.
- 25:23Speaker 5: You never know.
- 25:25Speaker 3: I'm happy to be proven wrong.
- 25:27Speaker 2: But they're already seeing big issues with resale values on
- 25:30Speaker 2: their plug in hybrid cars and interest in their plug
- 25:33Speaker 2: in hybrid cars. So I just think doing a full
- 25:36Speaker 2: EV you're just going down the path of the stuff
- 25:39Speaker 2: that your customers are already telling you they don't really like.
- 25:42Speaker 5: M all right, well, Pablo won't be getting in a
- 25:45Speaker 5: Ferrari anytime soon, that's fine.
- 25:47Speaker 2: But you look at look at SF nineties, like the
- 25:49Speaker 2: secondhand value of those is horrifically bad compared to like
- 25:53Speaker 2: a four or five eight or a four eight eight.
- 25:55Speaker 5: That's a sitting bargain. It's like back in the back
- 25:58Speaker 5: when the ty Can was really east, like that was
- 26:01Speaker 5: a four or five hundred thousand dollars car. That's yeah,
- 26:04Speaker 5: that's two hundred.
- 26:05Speaker 2: And to look at them today, the sales have completely tanked.
- 26:08Speaker 5: You can actually pick some up for a round about
- 26:09Speaker 5: one hundred and twenty grand.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's the problem. Yep.
- 26:15Speaker 5: Hey, earlier, just what we were talking about with the
- 26:17Speaker 5: Chinese evs, they've ruled out the pop out door handles,
- 26:22Speaker 5: and there's been a few. This is like people getting
- 26:25Speaker 5: their fucking hands called in them or something.
- 26:28Speaker 2: No, So the problem is people are getting involved in accidents.
- 26:31Speaker 2: And there was this horrific clip of one car that
- 26:35Speaker 2: had had a crash. And the problem they have with
- 26:39Speaker 2: a lot of electric vehicles is that if they are
- 26:42Speaker 2: in a serious enough crash, if you do get thermal
- 26:44Speaker 2: run away, it happens so fast that if the intense
- 26:49Speaker 2: heat doesn't kill you, the toxic flames that are immediately
- 26:53Speaker 2: emitted will kill you. And they had this video CCTV
- 26:56Speaker 2: vision of a guy that had an accident with his
- 26:58Speaker 2: family in the car and he was able to pull
- 27:01Speaker 2: most of the people out of the car except one person.
- 27:04Speaker 3: That person, unfortunately, was burned to death.
- 27:06Speaker 2: And part of the reason they couldn't get them out
- 27:07Speaker 2: was because these door handles wouldn't pop out and they
- 27:11Speaker 2: were linked to the car's electric system. The electric system
- 27:14Speaker 2: failed when it had a short and had this thermal
- 27:16Speaker 2: runaway event, and as a result of that, this person
- 27:18Speaker 2: died in the car. And now what China is doing
- 27:20Speaker 2: is they're saying, look, we're basically going to say from
- 27:23Speaker 2: first to jan next year, you need to have door
- 27:26Speaker 2: handles the measure a certain size. They've said that it's
- 27:29Speaker 2: six centimeters by two centimeters by two point five and
- 27:33Speaker 2: they need to be there in order to release the
- 27:34Speaker 2: door manually in the event of a failure. And inside
- 27:37Speaker 2: the car you need to have clear labeling to show
- 27:40Speaker 2: how the doors are meant to open, because that's the
- 27:42Speaker 2: other issue at the moment. If you're in the second
- 27:43Speaker 2: row of a Tesla, good luck to you if you
- 27:45Speaker 2: want to get out of there, because if the electrics
- 27:48Speaker 2: do fail, your manual release is buried under the carpet
- 27:51Speaker 2: behind a plastic cover and you're never going to be
- 27:53Speaker 2: able to find it in the event that you need
- 27:55Speaker 2: to find it in a hurry, or if you're in the.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Back of an uber.
- 27:58Speaker 2: So there's a lot of goods behind this, and I
- 28:00Speaker 2: think it is a move that is well and truly overdue.
- 28:03Speaker 5: Yeah. I think these door handles too, a lot of them,
- 28:05Speaker 5: even though there are some that are what would you
- 28:09Speaker 5: call them like recessed, you know, always kind of there.
- 28:12Speaker 5: They are still relying on electronic mechanism too, right.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:17Speaker 2: And you'll find in a lot of European cars that
- 28:20Speaker 2: they have manual overrides even on their sort of electric
- 28:23Speaker 2: exterior door handles. But for some reason China went away
- 28:26Speaker 2: from that. It became popular, and now they're sort of
- 28:28Speaker 2: being pulled back into line, which I think is a
- 28:30Speaker 2: good thing. So any car that is on sale in
- 28:32Speaker 2: China will likely have this type of thing filtered down
- 28:35Speaker 2: to it. So like the new BMWIX three has got
- 28:38Speaker 2: similar door handles to this. I'll be curious to see
- 28:41Speaker 2: what happens longer term with some of these other brands.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Hey, you know what, I want to bring this up right.
- 28:47Speaker 5: You know, when you put like a Chinese EV on
- 28:50Speaker 5: your on your socials or on your on YouTube or whatever,
- 28:54Speaker 5: and you're always going to get the comments like China's
- 28:56Speaker 5: persons shouldn't have bloody drive or whatever. It's like one
- 29:00Speaker 5: they've looked at the review of the car like it's
- 29:03Speaker 5: there and then they've decided to comment and yeah, you
- 29:06Speaker 5: kind of asked them, well, hang on, you have you
- 29:08Speaker 5: driven this car? No, in a nerval will it's like, ah, God,
- 29:13Speaker 5: I'm not one to reply to the haters or acknowledge them,
- 29:16Speaker 5: but fucking hell, like, do you know how dumb you sound?
- 29:20Speaker 3: They don't.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Evidently, Yeah, that is kind of the issue that a
- 29:24Speaker 2: lot of these people haven't driven the cars, and well,
- 29:26Speaker 2: they won't be for everyone. There is a huge subset
- 29:28Speaker 2: of the market at the moment that is under cost
- 29:30Speaker 2: of living pressures and they want a new car and
- 29:33Speaker 2: they don't want to spend, you know, twice as much.
- 29:35Speaker 3: On a Toyota just because it's got a Toyota badge.
- 29:37Speaker 2: So there are plenty of buyers for these cars, and
- 29:39Speaker 2: if you are not one of them, that is perfectly fine.
- 29:41Speaker 2: You go spend double the money or extra on whatever
- 29:44Speaker 2: brand you want with drumas.
- 29:45Speaker 5: But that's kind of bit too. But it's such a pigheaded,
- 29:48Speaker 5: fucking way of looking at life. It's like, why don't
- 29:52Speaker 5: you go out, just please, just go out and test
- 29:55Speaker 5: drive something. Go go jump in an MG four or
- 29:58Speaker 5: something like that, or or not a Tesla, but just
- 30:01Speaker 5: you know, go go drive something and then say they're
- 30:05Speaker 5: ship and then just and genuinely mean if you think
- 30:08Speaker 5: their ship, say the ship, but exactly like opinion, then yeah,
- 30:13Speaker 5: exactly just fuck appears me.
- 30:16Speaker 3: That's a horse mate.
- 30:18Speaker 5: That's all I wanted to say, Hey, we should rap
- 30:20Speaker 5: see if we've got any questions, because I didn't put
- 30:22Speaker 5: any out there. Ah no, I open bloody Instagram. Look
- 30:28Speaker 5: at this, Look at this, Look at this guy.
- 30:32Speaker 3: That's just handsome.
- 30:33Speaker 5: I can bring this up to the camera.
- 30:39Speaker 3: What a handsome devil.
- 30:44Speaker 5: It's frozen on you and you're just doing the biggest like.
- 30:50Speaker 5: Toyota has announced a new product as a solution for
- 30:53Speaker 5: drivers suffering from carthefs and official Toyota steering Wheel luck.
- 30:58Speaker 5: Thanks Nate, then, Tristan.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Can I tell you what we've we've done.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Thanks for the info, Tristan.
- 31:08Speaker 2: We took We went and bought the two hundred dollars
- 31:10Speaker 2: Toyota steering lock, along with like a fifteen dollar one
- 31:14Speaker 2: and then another one hundred and seventy five dollars one
- 31:17Speaker 2: and took to them with an angle grinder. It took
- 31:20Speaker 2: thirty seconds to get through it, so they are effectively useless.
- 31:25Speaker 2: If you own a steering lock, you may as well
- 31:28Speaker 2: just go scratch you back with it because it is
- 31:30Speaker 2: redundant as a car security feature.
- 31:32Speaker 5: Yeah, thank thanks, thank thank you, nineteen ninety four.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah, but it is comical that that is Toyota's solution
- 31:40Speaker 2: to car fetes. They've got this issue where their cars
- 31:44Speaker 2: have terribly insecure, unsecure security systems, and their solution is
- 31:50Speaker 2: a two hundred dollars club lock that they claim is
- 31:52Speaker 2: made of automotive grade steel.
- 31:54Speaker 5: So fucking silly, which is hilarious. Yeah, I mean, what
- 32:00Speaker 5: about what about those those things you can buy off
- 32:03Speaker 5: Timo that are kind of like scrambling chips and that
- 32:05Speaker 5: sort of stuff and opening up cars?
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean all of those devices can can kind
- 32:10Speaker 2: of do that. You've just got so many devices out
- 32:13Speaker 2: there that are able to disable a vehicle that. Yeah,
- 32:17Speaker 2: it's actually not funny because it is quite out of
- 32:19Speaker 2: control at the moment. But you know, Toyota should be
- 32:22Speaker 2: the fact that they're charging customers two hundred dollars for this.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I mean, if this is your solution, it should be free,
- 32:27Speaker 2: not two hundred dollars when it's weaker's piss. And then
- 32:31Speaker 2: the other thing as well is that they are working
- 32:33Speaker 2: on other solutions like an immobilizer and other things as well.
- 32:36Speaker 2: But judging how much they're charging for this steering lock,
- 32:39Speaker 2: I suspect the mobilizer is going to be in the
- 32:41Speaker 2: thousands of dollars, and I just do not think their
- 32:43Speaker 2: customers should be paying for that.
