- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, Gorgeous, It's Lala Kent. Welcome to Untraditionally Laala. Hello, gorgeous,
- 0:07Speaker 1: it is la La Kent. Welcome back to the bonus
- 0:09Speaker 1: episode of Untraditionally Lala. If you grew up in the
- 0:12Speaker 1: two thousands, the chances are you were doing the Cinderella
- 0:16Speaker 1: Dance in your living room. You were being just like me,
- 0:19Speaker 1: watching the TV, being like what I would give to
- 0:22Speaker 1: be a Cheetah girl. And today I have one of
- 0:25Speaker 1: the original Cheetah girls right here in front of me.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I mean, my my little self is freaking the out.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And when I saw it, there was like and worry
- 0:39Speaker 1: about I was like, I posted about it. I added
- 0:41Speaker 1: the song. I played that song for my daughter, she's five.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm like, you don't even know, you don't even know.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I'm about to change your life Ocean. She's like, play
- 0:49Speaker 1: it for me, mom, And we listened to the you know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: we're Cheetah Girls, Cheetah sisters. Oh my god.
- 0:56Speaker 2: It has been a wild ride and it's I it's crazy.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I can't I the people that have reposted. You've got
- 1:05Speaker 2: so many people. I met Meghan Trainer recently at I
- 1:12Speaker 2: Heart Event, Love It, Love It. We went to some
- 1:15Speaker 2: of the Wango Tango, which has been around forever. I went.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I grew up in Orange County and used to be
- 1:20Speaker 2: at the Angel Stadium. She comes out of nowhere, she's
- 1:25Speaker 2: on the red carpet and goes she literally says these words,
- 1:29Speaker 2: You're the reason why I'm a pop star.
- 1:31Speaker 1: I just got chills all over my mom.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Now body and that is like someone saying that, And
- 1:37Speaker 2: I was like, like it was so hard to not like,
- 1:40Speaker 2: I know, I'm thinking about.
- 1:42Speaker 1: It right now.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Like Megan Trainer, I'm like, girl, are you like, oh
- 1:47Speaker 2: my gosh, I can't even And she was like, I
- 1:49Speaker 2: used to be Derinda when I played it, and I
- 1:51Speaker 2: was just like I looked at my husband and just
- 1:54Speaker 2: was like, did that literally just happen? Likely ow?
- 1:58Speaker 1: I mean that movie did change everything. It did just
- 2:05Speaker 1: you know, four girls from very different backgrounds and talking
- 2:09Speaker 1: about you know, your how your spots are different. But
- 2:13Speaker 1: you guys are sisters. Like I remember watching that and
- 2:16Speaker 1: just wanting to be all of you and wanting to
- 2:19Speaker 1: find my little Cheetah sisters. I swear to god, you're
- 2:22Speaker 1: gonna laugh. We had I had a group of friends
- 2:25Speaker 1: that would come over and each of us would be.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And you know, everyone wants to be who they relate to, right, sure,
- 2:31Speaker 1: And we were the best part of form and record
- 2:33Speaker 1: on one of those big things with the tapes. I
- 2:35Speaker 1: think I still have the tapes. If I go back
- 2:37Speaker 1: to Utah and my mom's storage unit, I could probably
- 2:39Speaker 1: find them us dressed like you guys, totally performing doing
- 2:43Speaker 1: the whole thing and that.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Like you said, there was four of us. We were
- 2:48Speaker 2: all different. We had different personalities, We had different talents
- 2:52Speaker 2: that came to building. Like I was the dancer, right,
- 2:55Speaker 2: I was choreographing. That was my my thing eventually, Like
- 2:59Speaker 2: Kiely was the design like you know everyone Raven, you know,
- 3:03Speaker 2: she was the songwriter. You know. There's just like so
- 3:07Speaker 2: many things that like anyone could look and you could
- 3:10Speaker 2: go like I want to be Drinda today, but tomorrow
- 3:13Speaker 2: I'm gonna be Chanel, right, you know, like you all,
- 3:15Speaker 2: there was so many things for people to latch onto
- 3:17Speaker 2: totally and see themselves, right And the biggest thing that
- 3:21Speaker 2: I will I have zero regrets when it comes to
- 3:25Speaker 2: the choices that I've made in my career is like
- 3:27Speaker 2: being a part of something that inspired young girls. There
- 3:30Speaker 2: were so many girl groups out at that time. Yeah,
- 3:33Speaker 2: but we had an amazing opportunity to have storylines that
- 3:37Speaker 2: girls could really relate. Like it wasn't just because we
- 3:40Speaker 2: were out there and singing songs, but like our songs
- 3:44Speaker 2: had meaning, they came to a storyline and it just
- 3:46Speaker 2: like the ability to like inspire girls the way we
- 3:50Speaker 2: got a chance to do was so unreal.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it was all about girl empowerment.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yes it was, and it still is. You know, I
- 4:00Speaker 2: think the movies because my podcast we rewatch all these
- 4:04Speaker 2: Disney Channel movies.
- 4:05Speaker 1: What a Dream?
- 4:06Speaker 2: And I know that's like my homework is to watch
- 4:10Speaker 2: these movies Brink, Johnny Tsunami, the ones I grew up
- 4:14Speaker 2: with a smart house, like all these amazing Disney Channel movies,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and like some of them don't sit and stick. They
- 4:24Speaker 2: don't really they're not relevant. But you watch the Cheetah
- 4:26Speaker 2: Girls of Time, and you watch the Cheetah Girls in
- 4:29Speaker 2: those messaging and like everything that we go through, it's
- 4:31Speaker 2: like they still Like I watched them and was like,
- 4:36Speaker 2: I know, for a fact, if I had never been
- 4:37Speaker 2: a part of this, this is what I would want
- 4:39Speaker 2: my daughter to be watching, to be watching. Yeah, and
- 4:43Speaker 2: she does, and.
- 4:43Speaker 1: She what does she think? About it. Does she think
- 4:45Speaker 1: that that's just like the coolest thing on the planet.
- 4:47Speaker 2: So this I really haven't had a chance to do
- 4:51Speaker 2: a ton with her until the last like year or so.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I took her to Disney Channel Night. That was wild
- 4:57Speaker 2: for her because it was the first time that Channel
- 5:00Speaker 2: Night is legitimately like basically cosplay. They there was so
- 5:03Speaker 2: many Cheetah girls there. There was Chirls and Lizzie McGuire,
- 5:07Speaker 2: all high school musical fans, and everyone shows up can
- 5:10Speaker 2: possible outfits, like shows up in the outfits and it's
- 5:13Speaker 2: literally Disney for them, like the whole There's there's photo ops,
- 5:18Speaker 2: there's different foods. It was such a cool night at Disneyland.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And she's sitting there watching She's seen the first one.
- 5:25Speaker 2: She understands the track suit and then I went to
- 5:28Speaker 2: the bathroom and I put one on. I put my
- 5:31Speaker 2: orange track suit. Guys, I had orange. That's always been
- 5:35Speaker 2: a thing for me. I haven't gotten over it. Clearly
- 5:38Speaker 2: I had to be orange. It's fine because the ones
- 5:40Speaker 2: that happened is more of like a nectarine color. I'm
- 5:43Speaker 2: trying to make it better. It's not anyway well being forward,
- 5:46Speaker 2: But I put on the tracksuit, and when I came out,
- 5:48Speaker 2: she was just like it's like she's not really quite
- 5:52Speaker 2: understanding the difference right just yet. But then she's seen
- 5:56Speaker 2: all these girls come out wearing these outfits and literally
- 6:01Speaker 2: that they can't help but go back to when they
- 6:04Speaker 2: were younger and craking out united. They want pictures. They're
- 6:07Speaker 2: grabbing me and Monroe's just holding my hands so tight,
- 6:10Speaker 2: like what is going on? So it was very it's
- 6:14Speaker 2: like it's clicking now with.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Her that it starts clean because she's my daughter's age five.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yes, and have you gotten to take her to anything
- 6:21Speaker 2: really cool? Like we just got to go to the
- 6:23Speaker 2: premiere for Descendants wondering and she was looking around like
- 6:30Speaker 2: and she's like mind blowing. My mom got me like
- 6:33Speaker 2: and she told everyone, so she's starting to understand. But
- 6:35Speaker 2: I'm also trying to say, like we don't have to
- 6:37Speaker 2: talk about it that much, like pull it back a
- 6:40Speaker 2: little bit. You don't have to tell mommy. Your preschool
- 6:43Speaker 2: teacher doesn't need to know mommy's a cheap girl.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Like don't see, I'd be like, go tell your preschool
- 6:47Speaker 1: teacher that mommy is a che's a girl.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It's so weird, like I'm visiting all of this again,
- 6:53Speaker 2: but as a mom, and it's different.
- 6:56Speaker 1: It's different because you and I grew up in a
- 6:58Speaker 1: time where like I understand the people coming and freaking
- 7:02Speaker 1: out and wearing, you know, their track suits, because I
- 7:06Speaker 1: remember watching Disney Channel and it was such a build
- 7:09Speaker 1: up of like the Cheetah Girls premiere is on blah
- 7:14Speaker 1: blah blah day, Like there was such a build up
- 7:16Speaker 1: of all Now everything's streaming and easy access on the phone,
- 7:19Speaker 1: Like you planned your life around when these shows were going.
- 7:24Speaker 2: To air on Disney Channel, And when the Cheetah Girls
- 7:27Speaker 2: came out, it was during an era of the channel
- 7:30Speaker 2: that there it was the Disney Channel original movie of
- 7:33Speaker 2: the month. Yes, so it was like you were running
- 7:36Speaker 2: home to see it on Friday after school on Friday.
- 7:40Speaker 1: It was always on a Friday or.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Hearing out like four or five, right, and then for
- 7:45Speaker 2: the next month almost.
- 7:47Speaker 1: It was just on then you can yeah, you can
- 7:50Speaker 1: turn it it fourteen times already.
- 7:54Speaker 2: And I do empathize with the parents that used to
- 7:57Speaker 2: come up to us during that day, being like, do
- 7:59Speaker 2: you know how many times I've listened to Cinderella? My
- 8:01Speaker 2: kid doesn't listen to anything, and now I do, because
- 8:03Speaker 2: I'm like everything is they want to perfect princess all
- 8:08Speaker 2: the time, like all day, all night. My daughter is
- 8:11Speaker 2: listening to this new Descendant song like she just loves it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Oh, it's like when we're in the car.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yes, I'm like, I'm so sorry for all the parents
- 8:21Speaker 2: that had to listen to the gas now we know.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I'm like, if I have to listen to apt by.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Oh, then what's the one that oh h O T
- 8:31Speaker 2: T O g Oh?
- 8:32Speaker 3: What is that?
- 8:35Speaker 2: Oh?
- 8:35Speaker 1: Okay, she hasn't coming not to go. Oh, she hasn't
- 8:38Speaker 1: come in contact with I don't think I want.
- 8:39Speaker 2: To know either, because it's it's different too when there
- 8:43Speaker 2: are movements that go through And.
- 8:45Speaker 1: So she's in the backseat in her car.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Seat h O T T O g oh, and she's
- 8:50Speaker 2: like performing it, and I'm like, and then I can't say.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Mom when we get home, I gotta get.
- 8:55Speaker 2: You and tell me Mommy phil me. I'm like, oh
- 9:00Speaker 2: my gosh, we have this on recording so many times. Girl,
- 9:03Speaker 2: you got it, we got it, we got it.
- 9:05Speaker 1: She's a little performer. Yeah, she's you.
- 9:08Speaker 2: She and she looks so much like me when I
- 9:11Speaker 2: was little, Like I have like a little mini me.
- 9:13Speaker 2: My family watches her and when she does certain mannerisms,
- 9:16Speaker 2: like they all just like lose their mind. And then
- 9:19Speaker 2: my son is a replica of my husband, so we
- 9:21Speaker 2: have one of each.
- 9:22Speaker 1: That's great. I'd say that's very well rounded family. I
- 9:29Speaker 1: have two girls. One of my kids is conceived via
- 9:33Speaker 1: sperm donor. Okay, so I get to just say, she's
- 9:36Speaker 1: all me me ready.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I love her and my sister all four of her
- 9:42Speaker 2: kids are sperm donors. Really yeah, she's she's gay, got it?
- 9:47Speaker 1: So that was the only way and the same donor
- 9:50Speaker 1: for all the kids.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yes, wow, and they've even one thing you're I would
- 9:54Speaker 2: love to hear more of your process, and I know
- 9:56Speaker 2: you've talked about it on your podcast. But one of
- 9:59Speaker 2: the things that was very cool while her and her
- 10:02Speaker 2: wife were going through the sperm donor process was realizing
- 10:07Speaker 2: it's not just picking the person. Then you're in this
- 10:10Speaker 2: like community. So they connected with another couple who also
- 10:14Speaker 2: used the same sperm donor, and they were just pen
- 10:18Speaker 2: pals via like you know, wanting to know. They're like,
- 10:21Speaker 2: can we just kind of open it up of like
- 10:23Speaker 2: how you're going to explain things later? Like the kids
- 10:26Speaker 2: are babies right now, but like at one point like
- 10:28Speaker 2: how are you going to explain certain things? And they
- 10:31Speaker 2: did it for like, uh, medical reasons of wanting to
- 10:34Speaker 2: you know, if there was ever an issue. But they
- 10:37Speaker 2: became great friends and then they their families like like
- 10:43Speaker 2: my nephew will call their son and daughter like brother
- 10:48Speaker 2: and sister.
- 10:49Speaker 1: That is so cute.
- 10:49Speaker 2: They're like, yeah, they've they've really And it was crazy
- 10:52Speaker 2: to be like I didn't realize thinking about other families
- 10:55Speaker 2: like do you open it? Do you is it open?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Is it closed? Is it open? At eighteen? All of
- 11:00Speaker 2: these things that my sister went through. It was very
- 11:03Speaker 2: fascinating to go through it on the outside of her. Absolutely,
- 11:08Speaker 2: it was very cool journey.
- 11:09Speaker 1: It's I cannot explain, I mean. And I asked the
- 11:14Speaker 1: cryobank that I went through, I said, you know, how
- 11:16Speaker 1: many people come to you guys in my situation because
- 11:18Speaker 1: I know, you know, if a woman she doesn't have
- 11:22Speaker 1: viable eggs, you know, or a man his sperm doesn't work,
- 11:27Speaker 1: stormers ain't working sperm donor couples in same sex marriages. Yeah,
- 11:32Speaker 1: they were like, for you, it's like a very very
- 11:35Speaker 1: small percentage like women coming in and it being like
- 11:39Speaker 1: single mother by choice, so I haven't. Oddly enough, I
- 11:43Speaker 1: have one friend who was going through it, but her
- 11:46Speaker 1: gay best friend is the donor. Okay, I couldn't get
- 11:49Speaker 1: my gay best friends. They were like, I would feel
- 11:51Speaker 1: too guilty leaving. I feel guilty leaving ocean. She's not
- 11:54Speaker 1: even mine. I'm like, okay, I get it. Yeah, but
- 11:57Speaker 1: my biggest thing was like picking a donor first and foremost,
- 12:00Speaker 1: because I'm gonna already have a lot to explain, and
- 12:03Speaker 1: Los Angeles is very inclusive, right, I don't worry about here,
- 12:08Speaker 1: but the outside world. I've seen the comment sections I'm
- 12:10Speaker 1: a big, big sinner. I have done my child dirty
- 12:13Speaker 1: by not having a dad. Got it. It's like the
- 12:16Speaker 1: one thing that I'm like so confident in my decision
- 12:18Speaker 1: that there's not much you can say to me.
- 12:20Speaker 2: People realize the amount of decisions you have to make
- 12:23Speaker 2: during that process that when you go through it, you
- 12:26Speaker 2: are so confident. You're so confident, you're so I mean
- 12:29Speaker 2: the books that we you go, you take it from
- 12:32Speaker 2: the donors and and the questioning that they do. They
- 12:36Speaker 2: don't just do their mom and dad. It's like eat
- 12:39Speaker 2: their dad's mom and dad. Oh, their mom's mom and dad.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Level of testing that I had to go through. Yeah,
- 12:44Speaker 1: the genetic testing. I had like a panel of five hundred.
- 12:47Speaker 1: He was like, you didn't get the full one. I'm like,
- 12:49Speaker 1: there's more. I like passed out because they took so
- 12:51Speaker 1: much blood. I was like, I don't think I can
- 12:52Speaker 1: go back there.
- 12:53Speaker 2: It don't maybe go back wow.
- 12:55Speaker 1: But what I didn't realize, like your sister was saying,
- 12:58Speaker 1: like the questions and how you explain is this is
- 13:00Speaker 1: what I'm facing right now with my kids, because we
- 13:03Speaker 1: already like there's already this weird thing of Ocean growing
- 13:08Speaker 1: up with her dad being a movie producer and all that,
- 13:10Speaker 1: Like she sees very a very crazy life. People run
- 13:13Speaker 1: up to her and they're like, oh my gosh, Ocean. Yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 1: so there's that aspect that we already live in, like
- 13:17Speaker 1: a pretty different world which you can relate to. But
- 13:22Speaker 1: with Sosa, this is what you're gonna die of the story.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I'll make it quick. So I tell Ocean that she
- 13:28Speaker 1: can go in when her sister's up, she can go
- 13:30Speaker 1: keep her company in the crib. Okay, and for a
- 13:33Speaker 1: period of time, Sosa, my youngest, my donor baby mm hmm,
- 13:38Speaker 1: kept saying daddy to everybody. And I hear my daughter
- 13:41Speaker 1: Ocean say no, so say you don't have a daddy.
- 13:45Speaker 1: You don't have a daddy? No, And I was like,
- 13:48Speaker 1: oh fuck, I did not think this one through. So
- 13:52Speaker 1: we're walking through downtown Palm Springs and Sosa says daddy
- 13:58Speaker 1: and Ocean goes into you don't have a dad. Well,
- 14:00Speaker 1: then I get protective of Sosa, right, I go, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: know she doesn't have a dad. Isn't she so lucky
- 14:05Speaker 1: all of her stuff is in one place. She has
- 14:07Speaker 1: to be with mom all the time. And my brother
- 14:08Speaker 1: Easton looks at me and goes, please do not fuck
- 14:12Speaker 1: up your other child while trying to protect Sosa. And
- 14:14Speaker 1: I was like, oh shit, I did not see this coming.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's so you have to find ways to
- 14:23Speaker 2: explain stuff, but not you.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Know, traumatize both of them while trying to protect the other.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Or just and kids are just they just ask a
- 14:31Speaker 2: lot of questions and it can be very overwhelming. My
- 14:36Speaker 2: daughter was with our friend and his fiance and they're
- 14:41Speaker 2: his child who he has, you know, and she has
- 14:45Speaker 2: two mommies And Monroe's like, what's going on here? Yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 2: why don't I get two mommies, and I'm like, because
- 14:54Speaker 2: her mommy and daddy didn't stay together? Well why, okay,
- 14:58Speaker 2: I don't know. I have to sometimes just like.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Dad is that's why?
- 15:05Speaker 3: But like these questions that you're just like not ready
- 15:09Speaker 3: to explain, and how to explain it without putting someone
- 15:15Speaker 3: else down sometimes to explain stuff right like, she I go.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Isn't she lucky she gets two mommies that love her?
- 15:22Speaker 2: And she goes, yeah, but why don't I get that?
- 15:25Speaker 2: And I'm like, because I'm all the love unique girls, why.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Does Susie get two Christmases and I get one?
- 15:33Speaker 2: Right there? You go, It's so hard to explain. Sometimes
- 15:37Speaker 2: you just and you start mumbling, and you as much
- 15:40Speaker 2: of a confident adult as you are, they can really strike.
- 15:44Speaker 1: They school you, humble you.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Mommy, that's not appropriate. Or something comes on the TV
- 15:51Speaker 2: and I have to be so careful because she just
- 15:53Speaker 2: she'll stop doing what she's doing, coloring or automatically. And
- 15:57Speaker 2: also she's looking and I'm like, oh my gosh, I
- 15:59Speaker 2: forgot the show, isn't you know? I'm sorry? Girl?
- 16:02Speaker 1: Yeah, please don't tell your preschool teacher.
- 16:05Speaker 2: They know everything they do true and I know that
- 16:08Speaker 2: because my husband's mom is one, and so she tells
- 16:11Speaker 2: me all the funny stories that these kids come to shit.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Well, she's got the experience. Yeah, oh my gosh, what
- 16:18Speaker 1: I now that should be the reality show because preschool
- 16:21Speaker 1: teachers and what they hear. Oh yeah, they would dig that.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Oh do you get worried because it sounds like you're
- 16:27Speaker 1: your daughter's a little performer? Would you say you were
- 16:30Speaker 1: a child star?
- 16:31Speaker 2: No?
- 16:32Speaker 1: Because how old were you when Cheetah Girls came out?
- 16:34Speaker 2: Eighteen? The Cheetah Girls was my first job that I
- 16:38Speaker 2: had without my parents. One of my parents on set
- 16:41Speaker 2: with me. Okay, and I turned eighteen like the second
- 16:46Speaker 2: day of rehearsal, so I was legitimately like the first
- 16:50Speaker 2: time we went to Toronto. I went to Toronto by myself.
- 16:53Speaker 2: And yeah, so I was in college. Okay, so you're
- 16:57Speaker 2: playing a fifteen year old, yes, yeah, freshman in high school.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Does it scare you because you've been in the industry.
- 17:17Speaker 1: If your daughter does decide to like take the path
- 17:19Speaker 1: that you took, is there like a rule that you've
- 17:22Speaker 1: set up where if she when she hits a certain age,
- 17:24Speaker 1: if she's still into it, you will help her in
- 17:27Speaker 1: that direction.
- 17:28Speaker 2: She's asked about it a lot. The crazy part is, no,
- 17:33Speaker 2: I wouldn't be scared. I feel like I watched my
- 17:35Speaker 2: parents do it the right way, and I was around
- 17:39Speaker 2: other child actors whose parents did it a way that
- 17:42Speaker 2: I wouldn't. I wouldn't say the wrong way, but the
- 17:44Speaker 2: way I wouldn't want to do it, okay, And I
- 17:48Speaker 2: really loved that there was always it was always known
- 17:53Speaker 2: if I just woke up one day and didn't want
- 17:55Speaker 2: to do it anymore, that I didn't have to. There
- 17:57Speaker 2: was no pressure, no even I mean, it was such
- 18:00Speaker 2: a big deal even in high school. I came home
- 18:03Speaker 2: actually from my freshman year of high school in tears
- 18:06Speaker 2: almost every day because I felt like I was missing
- 18:09Speaker 2: out on opportunities and auditions because I had to go
- 18:11Speaker 2: to school. Wow. Yeah, And my dad was like, I
- 18:16Speaker 2: love you, and I don't care that you are trying
- 18:20Speaker 2: to grow up too fast. Wow, I want to He
- 18:23Speaker 2: always said, I want to take a picture at your
- 18:26Speaker 2: senior prom together and not because you're going with someone
- 18:29Speaker 2: else at your senior prom. Like, that's what I want
- 18:32Speaker 2: for you. I want you to work as much as
- 18:34Speaker 2: you we can, but also have a different life. So
- 18:38Speaker 2: I was always able to segregate like work life and
- 18:41Speaker 2: then come home and be like a normal kid. Be
- 18:43Speaker 2: a normal kid, yeah, play soccer or be a dancer.
- 18:46Speaker 2: And it wasn't until I actually joined my dance team
- 18:49Speaker 2: at school that I finally found like a purpose, Like
- 18:54Speaker 2: I felt like I really loved being a part of school.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I got to be a part of the school commune
- 19:00Speaker 2: versus feeling like I felt like I was like a
- 19:02Speaker 2: commuter because everyone would go after school and hang out.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I was either going to dance class, or I was
- 19:07Speaker 2: coming up to La to do acting, or I was
- 19:09Speaker 2: coming up for jobs or you know what I mean.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I was doing all that and not because of my parents.
- 19:14Speaker 2: My parents would have loved for me to not to
- 19:16Speaker 2: be like I don't want to do that. My dad
- 19:18Speaker 2: was like, you know, why don't Why don't you be
- 19:21Speaker 2: like any other career like you could, you could do
- 19:25Speaker 2: whatever you want. He didn't necessarily want me in the industry.
- 19:29Speaker 2: He was they was. They were scared about it. They
- 19:31Speaker 2: made me. I was a background actor for a long time.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Okay, I did dance.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I was a dancer in the industry, so I did
- 19:39Speaker 2: you know again, the there was a principal character, and
- 19:43Speaker 2: I was dancing in the background and doing things like
- 19:45Speaker 2: that because my parents kept thinking, you're going to get
- 19:48Speaker 2: bored on set because set is actually very boring for kids,
- 19:51Speaker 2: very boring, true word. But kids have the extra have
- 19:57Speaker 2: to go to school for three hours exactly. That makes
- 19:59Speaker 2: it really not fun because they're just basically doing homework
- 20:04Speaker 2: for three out. They're not learning a lesson. It's with
- 20:06Speaker 2: the set teacher who has a fourth grader, a fifth grader,
- 20:09Speaker 2: a second grader, so they're just basically doing busy work.
- 20:13Speaker 2: My parents kept thinking if I was a part of it,
- 20:15Speaker 2: I was going to just get over it, and they
- 20:17Speaker 2: didn't realize I was like just falling in love with
- 20:19Speaker 2: it even more. Even more so, I would support Monroe
- 20:25Speaker 2: and or Ledger if he wanted to. He's actually very funny,
- 20:29Speaker 2: but it'd have to be I'd have to be able
- 20:32Speaker 2: to do it the way that I did it with
- 20:34Speaker 2: my parents. And my dad was a real estate agent,
- 20:36Speaker 2: so he was able to be on set with me.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Oh that's great, you know.
- 20:39Speaker 2: And my mom did a lot of more of the
- 20:42Speaker 2: like the paperwork and stuff like that at home, so
- 20:44Speaker 2: she he would she would send me with my dad
- 20:49Speaker 2: and he I felt took really good care of me
- 20:52Speaker 2: on set, like, oh yeah, I never I never went
- 20:56Speaker 2: anywhere where he couldn't see me. He protected me a lot.
- 21:00Speaker 1: That makes me, yeah, really really happy for you. Yeah,
- 21:03Speaker 1: because it can get dark.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but I will say when I was eighteen and
- 21:07Speaker 2: given the opportunity to be part of the channel, like
- 21:09Speaker 2: the Channel takes really good care of their kids. Like
- 21:13Speaker 2: now when we interview for the podcasts that I do,
- 21:16Speaker 2: and we talk to the new kids on Zombies and
- 21:17Speaker 2: the new kids on Descendants, and I'm like, there's a
- 21:20Speaker 2: whole world of like Instagram wasn't around when I was
- 21:23Speaker 2: not at all, that whole part of being famous was
- 21:27Speaker 2: not really a part of the gig. And you know,
- 21:31Speaker 2: the channel gives the We talked to Malachi from Zombies
- 21:36Speaker 2: talk to his mom and what it's like to have
- 21:39Speaker 2: what's it like to have Malachi? Like holy, does.
- 21:42Speaker 1: She control the Instagram?
- 21:44Speaker 2: No? She she did for a long time, but he's
- 21:46Speaker 2: eighteen now. I was like, what's that, Like, how did you?
- 21:49Speaker 2: And she goes you know, I will say, I'll give
- 21:52Speaker 2: it to Disney. They give them education on it. Oh wow,
- 21:57Speaker 2: they help them with that. They helped that that aspect
- 22:00Speaker 2: of teaching them how to not post when you're there,
- 22:03Speaker 2: post after like all those things I feel like kids
- 22:07Speaker 2: today don't think about. They get a lot of like
- 22:10Speaker 2: help with that, which I think is magical. I think
- 22:13Speaker 2: that's just so incredible. Disney's so hands on with that stuff.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I love that too. Do they do they prep them
- 22:18Speaker 1: for the comment section? Because we were talking about the
- 22:19Speaker 1: comment section?
- 22:20Speaker 2: She said they talked. They work with them on like
- 22:22Speaker 2: mental health. That's a big, a big thing that they
- 22:25Speaker 2: advocate for the channels. So and I will say I
- 22:28Speaker 2: believe it one hundred percent because Disney was so hands
- 22:31Speaker 2: on and so great they were. It was a really
- 22:33Speaker 2: good company to work with, especially with that being my
- 22:37Speaker 2: first Yeah, saying that I had to start doing stuff
- 22:40Speaker 2: on my own without someone over my shoulder of some sort,
- 22:43Speaker 2: so your protector, yeah, watching me and making sure, you know.
- 22:47Speaker 2: And he was really great also about he would call it.
- 22:52Speaker 2: He would say, let's you know, let's let's go through
- 22:56Speaker 2: what happened today, because he wanted me to like talk
- 22:58Speaker 2: through what happened with things on set, you know, good
- 23:01Speaker 2: or bad? Good or bad? Yeah, you know, things that
- 23:04Speaker 2: you saw that you might have not liked, so I
- 23:06Speaker 2: didn't understand why so and so got in trouble about this,
- 23:09Speaker 2: or I didn't like the way this person was talked
- 23:13Speaker 2: to or whatever, or did you see how this person
- 23:16Speaker 2: like dad, did you see them handle that scene? Wow?
- 23:19Speaker 2: What a bad ass. Yeah, you know, so we got
- 23:21Speaker 2: to go through and he would He loved for me
- 23:23Speaker 2: to be able to kind of say it to me
- 23:26Speaker 2: because when I was going home, I wasn't going home.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I didn't have a friend group of actors, people that
- 23:33Speaker 2: up to playing soccer. I had friends that were baseball
- 23:36Speaker 2: or you know, or didn't didn't have an outside activity
- 23:39Speaker 2: from school. You know, I had people that like couldn't
- 23:41Speaker 2: understand like the LA life totally and the work, And
- 23:45Speaker 2: they couldn't understand why I was wanting to work. They
- 23:47Speaker 2: didn't understand that.
- 23:48Speaker 1: When you could chill like you got your whole life
- 23:49Speaker 1: to work.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Yes, they could not understand that, and so they couldn't
- 23:54Speaker 2: understand that I loved it. I just loved it.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Right, that's where you were thriving. You knew that you
- 23:58Speaker 1: wanted to be in that environ at all times. Yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 1: so when you you obviously came to LA, you auditioned
- 24:04Speaker 1: for the Cheetah girls you auditioned in LA or no
- 24:06Speaker 1: self tape? No was there self tape back then?
- 24:10Speaker 2: There were for people like that were like in Texas.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Texas was a pretty big place for kids.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I feel like, send in like an actual tape for like,
- 24:23Speaker 1: why am I having this memory of a friend sending
- 24:26Speaker 1: in like a real life tape.
- 24:27Speaker 2: They might have, I mean you, But like it wasn't
- 24:31Speaker 2: as common LA. Everyone was auditioning.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Like, if you wanted to audition for movies, you need
- 24:36Speaker 1: to move to Los Angeles.
- 24:38Speaker 2: I would say, that's what kids do. There's a there
- 24:41Speaker 2: used to be a thing, and I think it's probably
- 24:43Speaker 2: still relevant where it was called pilot season and it
- 24:46Speaker 2: would be like the month the months of January, February,
- 24:51Speaker 2: maybe like March, and people would move to LA and
- 24:57Speaker 2: live in oh Man. Will would tell me, I forget.
- 25:00Speaker 2: There was like a certain condo area that everyone who
- 25:05Speaker 2: lived that was out of town would live in this
- 25:07Speaker 2: apartment complex and you would just be there strictly to
- 25:13Speaker 2: come an audition for three months or whatever your parents
- 25:16Speaker 2: could do, and hopefully book a pilot. And if you
- 25:19Speaker 2: booked a pilot, then you filmed the pilot and then
- 25:22Speaker 2: it got picked up or it didn't you.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Talking about this puts a pit in my stomach because
- 25:27Speaker 1: I remember being in Utah and wanting to be an
- 25:30Speaker 1: actress and it was me and my friend and she
- 25:31Speaker 1: was much more driven, and she would come out for
- 25:34Speaker 1: pilot season and I remember like wanting to do that
- 25:40Speaker 1: because I needed to do it, but it felt very
- 25:43Speaker 1: uncomfortable for me and coming out during pilot season and
- 25:47Speaker 1: not really grinding like my friend was grinding, and feeling
- 25:49Speaker 1: guilty that I didn't have the drive and the grind
- 25:52Speaker 1: that she had. She ended up moving full time and
- 25:55Speaker 1: missing high school. I ended up staying back as my
- 25:58Speaker 1: parents were.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Like, we really need you to just be a kid.
- 26:02Speaker 1: And I was like that that when you say that
- 26:04Speaker 1: to me, the pit leaves my stomach. Yeah, that I
- 26:07Speaker 1: can do.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I'm glad you had those opportunities to do that, because
- 26:12Speaker 2: I feel like the kids that that don't they There's
- 26:17Speaker 2: at some point like I feel I just feel like
- 26:20Speaker 2: what goes into my work now and now I'm doing
- 26:22Speaker 2: like podcasting and stuff. All the experiences that I had, right,
- 26:25Speaker 2: it was that age, right, Yeah, And then of course
- 26:27Speaker 2: the experience when I had when I booked the Cheetah
- 26:30Speaker 2: Girls and I mean, but it it was tough and
- 26:33Speaker 2: not This is my part point going back to Monroe.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I don't know if there's an age, but it will
- 26:38Speaker 2: be something that I need to make sure she has
- 26:43Speaker 2: the tough skin to be able to do what it
- 26:45Speaker 2: is that kids do in the industry and audition and
- 26:49Speaker 2: take the nose because you get a hundred nose before
- 26:51Speaker 2: you get a callback, and then you get a hundred
- 26:54Speaker 2: callbacks before you get a second callback and the screen
- 26:59Speaker 2: testing to be able to go. They didn't. It could
- 27:03Speaker 2: be as simple as they want a redhead. They don't
- 27:05Speaker 2: want to they don't want a brunette. Right, It's as
- 27:07Speaker 2: simple as that they want brown eyes and they don't
- 27:09Speaker 2: want blue.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Like I can put in contacts, I can change my
- 27:11Speaker 1: hair color.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Yeah right, you're like, wait what, I'll change myself right, Like,
- 27:15Speaker 2: but like to not let to not let those nose
- 27:17Speaker 2: affect you. And she's too little for me to know
- 27:21Speaker 2: if she's that total or not. And until I know
- 27:24Speaker 2: and feel confident that she can take a no and
- 27:27Speaker 2: it not affected me, I was like, you're bad. Yeah,
- 27:33Speaker 2: I would have been great for this role, like I
- 27:35Speaker 2: had that kind of Yeah, I'm like, there was it
- 27:40Speaker 2: was just and my dad would say when I'd get frustrated,
- 27:43Speaker 2: because like, go back to pilot season. There was the
- 27:46Speaker 2: year before I booked The Cheetah Girls, I was in
- 27:47Speaker 2: three pilots that didn't get picked up. Wow. Yeah, I
- 27:51Speaker 2: was in Bold and the Beautiful. I had a recurring role,
- 27:54Speaker 2: but my character didn't get the contract. My girlfriend's character did.
- 28:00Speaker 2: And to take those hits and there's a time where
- 28:02Speaker 2: you know, I like again, I had really great open
- 28:05Speaker 2: communication with my parents and my dad was like, Sabrina,
- 28:08Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, I can feel it. It
- 28:11Speaker 2: feels like there's a train approaching us and it's just
- 28:14Speaker 2: gonna take that one yes for you to just ride
- 28:18Speaker 2: and go. And I was like, okay, Like on the
- 28:21Speaker 2: days that I'd get frustrated, and I get us that
- 28:23Speaker 2: because there were roles that I really wanted, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 2: and you don't get those roles all the time. So
- 28:28Speaker 2: when the Cheetah Girls came out and this character Derinda
- 28:31Speaker 2: and I auditioned for all four. So that's what they
- 28:33Speaker 2: did with the Cheetah Girls. Oh, they came in.
- 28:34Speaker 1: You auditioned for all you.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Everyone auditioned for all four and was praying for obviously
- 28:40Speaker 2: wanting to get Galleria because it was the lead, but
- 28:43Speaker 2: I really felt like Derinda was mine.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Really.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah. It was one of those I'm like, I could sing,
- 28:50Speaker 2: I could dance, I could put me in a room.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I will outdance anyone that else comes in, Like I was.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I just like felt like this was my role and
- 28:58Speaker 2: I was going to prove that it was my Like
- 29:00Speaker 2: I just had that vibe right And then but I
- 29:04Speaker 2: auditioned for Chanel and Aqua didn't. I think I might
- 29:08Speaker 2: have gotten a callback maybe when I went in and
- 29:11Speaker 2: I probably I think I auditioned for Channel and Derinda
- 29:14Speaker 2: on the callback, okay. And then this was the fourth
- 29:17Speaker 2: callback was when there's this Burbank building for the Channel
- 29:22Speaker 2: that used to have everything and the top floor, like
- 29:25Speaker 2: the floor twenty one is where the auditions happened. Okay,
- 29:30Speaker 2: and you get out of that that elevator and it's
- 29:33Speaker 2: like the whole time. I just was there and literally
- 29:36Speaker 2: in forty A just was there, like and I got
- 29:38Speaker 2: the stomach bubbles going the elevator because this was when
- 29:42Speaker 2: you got to that floor that was where the decisions
- 29:45Speaker 2: were made. Oh my gosh, and you'd be in a
- 29:46Speaker 2: room and hard racing. You're just telling the story. Most auditions,
- 29:50Speaker 2: you're in a room with everyone that looks like you
- 29:52Speaker 2: if you're when you get to callbacks, like, it's everyone Derinda.
- 29:55Speaker 2: They didn't know what ethnicity they wanted. They didn't know
- 29:58Speaker 2: because she was a foster child. At that point, Raven
- 30:01Speaker 2: was already in the room. This was like the final
- 30:03Speaker 2: callback where they were starting to put us together. Uh
- 30:07Speaker 2: Beyonce's little sister.
- 30:09Speaker 1: So long, don't even get we started on. Sele comes through.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I'm sitting in the chair and she comes through, and
- 30:15Speaker 2: I'm like.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Did you die?
- 30:16Speaker 2: I would have died, but I had kept it cool.
- 30:20Speaker 2: So I feel like this was my face, which I
- 30:22Speaker 2: thought was probably as good as I could get.
- 30:24Speaker 1: And I was like, were you intimidated as it?
- 30:28Speaker 2: Yes? Then Adrian by Alone comes back. Oh yeah, one
- 30:32Speaker 2: of the most gorgeous girls I'd ever seen. She looked
- 30:35Speaker 2: like she had no makeup on, just like some some blush.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah she probably didn't.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Her hair was like curly, but like in a like
- 30:44Speaker 2: backpas stunning And I was.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Like, okay, see that's the worst. I'm like, I wish
- 30:51Speaker 1: I had had a battle in our own little boxes
- 30:53Speaker 1: so that I can't see the competition, because then I'm
- 30:55Speaker 1: like that, but I knew.
- 30:57Speaker 2: I was like that, she's that girl's going for Schanelle.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Like new heard from one of the other girls that
- 31:03Speaker 2: came out that Raven was in the room, and I
- 31:05Speaker 2: was like, oh, this is They're looking for just Derinda
- 31:07Speaker 2: Like this is so at that point I think they
- 31:09Speaker 2: had they had at least in their mind who the
- 31:13Speaker 2: rest of the three girls where they were just looking
- 31:15Speaker 2: for my part. And I just remember being like, okay,
- 31:21Speaker 2: you got this, please love God get this, Like this
- 31:25Speaker 2: is it right? And we went in and then they
- 31:28Speaker 2: I did a scene. I had a dramatic scene for
- 31:31Speaker 2: the movie where I was explaining none of my friends
- 31:34Speaker 2: knew I was a foster child. Yeah, that's the scene
- 31:36Speaker 2: I auditioned with.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Oh I got chills again.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah. And I was not performing the scene as dramatic
- 31:43Speaker 2: as what we ended up filming. And the director Oz
- 31:47Speaker 2: Scott was like, I feel like you could give me more.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I want to see what it would be like to
- 31:54Speaker 2: for you to not have the parents that you have.
- 31:57Speaker 2: What how would you think this girl would be what
- 32:00Speaker 2: would she be going through? And I went okay, and
- 32:03Speaker 2: me and Adrian I swear we did the scene almost
- 32:05Speaker 2: exactly the way we filmed it in.
- 32:07Speaker 1: That so she was in me and that is who
- 32:09Speaker 1: you were auditioning with.
- 32:10Speaker 2: And he was like, go there, let me see you
- 32:12Speaker 2: go there. You can do it.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I can, I can tell you can do it. I
- 32:15Speaker 1: was like, okay, And you know, that's always such a
- 32:18Speaker 1: good sign. I remember my very first acting class. They
- 32:21Speaker 1: were like, if someone in the room, like the director
- 32:24Speaker 1: tells you to redo it, it's not because you did
- 32:28Speaker 1: a bad job. It is because they know you have something.
- 32:32Speaker 1: You're tweakable and mouldable.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Yes. And that was my audition. And
- 32:37Speaker 2: then I got to dance, and that's when and.
- 32:40Speaker 1: That's when you thrive. You broke it down, little girls.
- 32:43Speaker 2: I'll show showed everything I could do.
- 32:47Speaker 1: What song did you audition to? Do?
- 32:49Speaker 2: You remember I had a couple. I had Broadway song.
- 32:52Speaker 2: I was more Broadway trained than I was pop star trained.
- 32:56Speaker 2: I didn't work on like Britney Spears songs or Sineaguilera.
- 33:00Speaker 2: I'd come in with like a Broadway side or a
- 33:02Speaker 2: Disney song like river What's the River Bend from Pocahontas
- 33:07Speaker 2: was a song belt in it and I loved the belt.
- 33:11Speaker 2: And then there was a Liza Minelli's song I Forget
- 33:16Speaker 2: but pretty pretty city Lights and she hits this really
- 33:20Speaker 2: high note in it. So that's what I would try
- 33:22Speaker 2: to do, is show my range. And so I came
- 33:25Speaker 2: in probably with Pocahontas, and then I did that song
- 33:27Speaker 2: and and.
- 33:28Speaker 1: You were like, but then.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Like's and this, and you opened your eyes to just
- 33:40Speaker 2: exacts like that was great, like wow, okay, so I
- 33:46Speaker 2: didn't move anyone. Okay, They're like in the room with
- 33:50Speaker 2: hearing over and over these songs of kids, you know,
- 33:52Speaker 2: like a weather around the road, and what was well,
- 33:58Speaker 2: I will say I remember is was always the worst
- 34:01Speaker 2: of going into and having to be a dancer and
- 34:03Speaker 2: them just putting on a track and going okay, like
- 34:06Speaker 2: let's see you more.
- 34:07Speaker 1: So with the dancing, they picked the song they would.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Just put on a track, or you could bring a
- 34:12Speaker 2: song that you would like, but I didn't really care.
- 34:15Speaker 2: You could put anything.
- 34:15Speaker 1: On the worst because I go straight into the fizzle face.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Now, oh I.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Get it right.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Most you'd be the what most kids do. They're learning
- 34:26Speaker 2: TikTok dances, and that's the face that you do in
- 34:28Speaker 2: a TikTok.
- 34:29Speaker 1: These kids don't know that face is mac dre. Let
- 34:34Speaker 1: me tell you so, yeah, why don't. I'm obsessed with
- 34:38Speaker 1: everything you just want.
- 34:40Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever gone that dove that far
- 34:43Speaker 2: into that whole thing. But anyway, for you and you
- 34:47Speaker 2: hear nothing, nothing. Months go by, Audish agent hasn't heard anything.
- 34:54Speaker 2: And you know, I'm off to college. I'm at Chapman
- 34:57Speaker 2: and I'm in the dorm like.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Living normal, like mom and dad wanted yev.
- 35:02Speaker 2: And then I got, you know, a job at a
- 35:04Speaker 2: tanning salon, like like one does.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Wow in college disorients, I was saying.
- 35:10Speaker 2: And I then Debah Martin Chase, the producer, called me,
- 35:13Speaker 2: and I was at my tanning salon and my phone rang,
- 35:15Speaker 2: you know, and it was where it was probably should
- 35:17Speaker 2: have had it, but at my phone rang and Debra's calling,
- 35:19Speaker 2: and I like looked at my managers, like this is
- 35:21Speaker 2: the movie from the Cheeta Girls, that thing I told
- 35:23Speaker 2: you I filmed. She's calling me and she's like hey,
- 35:26Speaker 2: and she goes, what does it feel like to be
- 35:28Speaker 2: like a double platinum artist? And I was like, guys,
- 35:32Speaker 2: I'm not sure what does that mean? And she goes
- 35:35Speaker 2: I mean, your guys' album just went double platinum, Sabrina,
- 35:39Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, like.
- 35:42Speaker 1: You've rolled back up to the person you were like,
- 35:44Speaker 1: So I'm quitting because this doesn't make it. I can't
- 35:47Speaker 1: be double platinum and then checking people in for their
- 35:49Speaker 1: spray tands. No, ball, I actually want to test your
- 35:52Speaker 1: Disney knowledge with our rapid fire.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Favorite Disney Channel show that wasn't yours?
- 36:10Speaker 2: Okay, favorite Disney Channel movie would be Johnny Tsunami.
- 36:16Speaker 1: So good.
- 36:17Speaker 2: He was so hot and I love love Brandon. He's
- 36:19Speaker 2: still the sweetest. We got to interview him, you know
- 36:23Speaker 2: he you know what his main job is right now?
- 36:25Speaker 2: He is a plea.
- 36:28Speaker 1: He's a surf instructor. No, wouldn't that be amazing? No?
- 36:32Speaker 2: He what is it called? He marries people? He's oh
- 36:35Speaker 2: he's an efficient Yes in Colorado? Wow, could you imagine
- 36:40Speaker 2: if you had Johnnysunami?
- 36:42Speaker 1: Yes, I can. I'm doing it. I don't know who I'm.
- 36:49Speaker 2: I was a huge fan of The Mickey Mouse Club,
- 36:52Speaker 2: like I'm talking justin Timberlake day. Yes, Brittany Christina so good. Gosh,
- 36:58Speaker 2: so many really.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Do make dreams come true, don't they? Favorite Disney movie
- 37:04Speaker 1: of all time?
- 37:06Speaker 2: Ooh, man, I really loved Cinderella with Brandy. Do you
- 37:12Speaker 2: remember that Roger Hammer sign and Winney Houston?
- 37:15Speaker 1: Watching that, I thought it's my gosh. And George Costanza,
- 37:21Speaker 1: he plays the whatever. Let me tell you. I remember.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I thought my mom was going to surprise me with
- 37:25Speaker 1: the movie. She didn't come home from Hollywood Video with it,
- 37:29Speaker 1: and I remember hitting her. I was, where is my
- 37:34Speaker 1: Cinderella movie?
- 37:36Speaker 2: Promised? Man?
- 37:38Speaker 1: Then I had to work to earn it all right,
- 37:41Speaker 1: But you know what I did.
- 37:42Speaker 2: I would say definitely top five. I don't know if
- 37:46Speaker 2: I can like nail it down. I really am digging
- 37:49Speaker 2: the movies. I love Moanna. I haven't seen the live
- 37:52Speaker 2: action so good. I don't care what anyone says. You
- 37:56Speaker 2: don't talk to me about the rocks, uh Wig, don't care.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Maui he's he's Maui and he's the rock.
- 38:05Speaker 1: He's nothing without his I can't wait.
- 38:07Speaker 2: I haven't seen that yet, but I bet you that
- 38:09Speaker 2: will probably be Ocean.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Just found out that her name is Mowanna in Hawaiian
- 38:14Speaker 1: and she tells everybody. Do you have a favorite Disney villain?
- 38:18Speaker 2: Ooh? Always loved the one Dalmatians Duella, and then.
- 38:31Speaker 1: I like the old lady with a war on her
- 38:33Speaker 1: nose and snow White. Snow White's scary. She's terrifying, scary,
- 38:38Speaker 1: She's so.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Scary on the ride Disney Disneyland. Have you been on
- 38:41Speaker 2: it in a while. Yes, they've redone it and they've
- 38:43Speaker 2: made her terrifying. It's crazy. Yeah, it is crazy. I
- 38:47Speaker 2: can't go.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I can't watch No White because it terrifies.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:50Speaker 2: The Pinocchio ride is even worse though.
- 38:51Speaker 1: But Disney Princess, favorite Cinderella, Okay, favorite Disney Channel theme
- 38:57Speaker 1: song that.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Is so hearn ooh, Mickey mouse Club again.
- 39:04Speaker 1: I really liked the Kim Possible and Proud Family. That's
- 39:08Speaker 1: when I felt in love. Was so launch because if
- 39:09Speaker 1: you remember, on Disney Channel, they would show you the
- 39:12Speaker 1: making of the songs and they'd show the girls in
- 39:14Speaker 1: the studio making the Proud Family theme song. Wow, she
- 39:19Speaker 1: did it with Beyonce, she did it with Disney's Child.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I don't think I ever knew that.
- 39:25Speaker 2: I can't wait to say that on my own podcast.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Yeah take it. If you could voice any Disney character,
- 39:32Speaker 1: who would it be?
- 39:34Speaker 2: Wow? Probably Ariel. Really, yeah, I love that that movie
- 39:41Speaker 2: I loved so much.
- 39:42Speaker 1: I'd want to be the seagull. Oh yeah, al.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Whoa what a swim?
- 39:55Speaker 1: Which Disney Channel character would be your best friend? Los
- 39:59Speaker 1: Siena guy Boulevards from Brown Family? I love her?
- 40:05Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Yeah. Oh, I think I think Daisy
- 40:11Speaker 2: seems like a rider die.
- 40:13Speaker 1: I think the duck Duck looks like she's a rider
- 40:17Speaker 1: die Like she's okay, she did this answer?
- 40:21Speaker 2: Yes, I think that she she would really jump in
- 40:25Speaker 2: front of something for Minnie Mouse, like she'd jump in
- 40:27Speaker 2: front of a bus for Minie Mouse.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Mickey Mouse is kind of a narcissist. I feel
- 40:34Speaker 1: like my Disney like ears are raining.
- 40:37Speaker 2: I can't believe you said that about Mickey.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Oh dare you? I give a lot of unpopular opinions.
- 40:56Speaker 1: We're so happy by the way of this reboot, I'm
- 40:59Speaker 1: what is it called a reboot? What do you call?
- 41:03Speaker 2: So what it's going to be doing is really it's
- 41:05Speaker 2: going to introduce a whole new group of Chetah girls.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. So it'll be interesting to see if
- 41:13Speaker 2: they grab onto these characters the way that they have
- 41:16Speaker 2: for the the OG movies. Right right. I don't know.
- 41:20Speaker 2: I would hope so I think the messaging, if it's
- 41:22Speaker 2: the same, will still resonate with kids. But like, I
- 41:26Speaker 2: feel like some of the fans are like, you know,
- 41:30Speaker 2: what it seems like is that there's it's going to
- 41:34Speaker 2: be interesting. I don't know. I don't know. I think
- 41:36Speaker 2: you're any like nervous energy because I'm like I would
- 41:40Speaker 2: hate for like, I want the fans to love whatever
- 41:42Speaker 2: the Cheata Girls is going to be.
- 41:44Speaker 1: I think they are because if you think about the
- 41:47Speaker 1: kids who were watching you guys, for the most part,
- 41:50Speaker 1: we've all become parents. Now it's going to be the
- 41:53Speaker 1: new wave. Our kids are going to be obsessed with this,
- 41:57Speaker 1: this new you know, Cheated Girls, and then we can say,
- 42:00Speaker 1: oh my gosh, this movie came out when we were kids,
- 42:04Speaker 1: and then we can go back and watch like I'm
- 42:05Speaker 1: on this kick right now where like Ocean as far
- 42:08Speaker 1: as music goes, like we're listening from every like everything
- 42:11Speaker 1: from like Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Appa, Tapa two, whatever,
- 42:15Speaker 1: Yaba Dabadoo or Drake. She loves Janish Stfu. She's like, mom,
- 42:22Speaker 1: that says bad word, I'm like ignore it, Like well, routed,
- 42:27Speaker 1: and we're going back and watching Disney movies that came
- 42:30Speaker 1: out when I was, you know, a young kid, so
- 42:33Speaker 1: like The Smart House. She just watched Life Size for
- 42:35Speaker 1: the first time with Tyra Banks. She's obsessed. Her sister,
- 42:39Speaker 1: her older sister called me, who's stepsister? She was like,
- 42:44Speaker 1: what is this movie? That ocean is talking about a
- 42:47Speaker 1: Barbie that comes to life with a twin And I'm like, oh,
- 42:50Speaker 1: Life Size a twin because we watched Parent Traps, so
- 42:52Speaker 1: she thinks that that girl's actually a twin. So that's
- 42:55Speaker 1: how I imagine it's going to go down. And I
- 42:57Speaker 1: think it's gonna be a huge freaking success, and it's
- 43:00Speaker 1: going to be such a cool moment for people who
- 43:03Speaker 1: watched the original to be able to say like, oh,
- 43:06Speaker 1: just wait, I'm going to show you how it all started.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're doing different they're also backing it up
- 43:13Speaker 2: again with a whole round of touring. So when we
- 43:17Speaker 2: were our move, like I said, Disney wasn't even expecting
- 43:20Speaker 2: us to be like this like force of music, right, They,
- 43:27Speaker 2: like I said, they didn't at first think they were
- 43:29Speaker 2: doing a soundtrack, then they did. They learned a whole
- 43:31Speaker 2: lot from it, and they came out with High School Musical. Right.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Like I said, we did a tour for the for
- 43:38Speaker 2: Christmas and we just did like a theater tour and
- 43:42Speaker 2: sold that out. And so then after we were doing
- 43:45Speaker 2: the second movie, it was like, you guys are going
- 43:47Speaker 2: to go on tour and we're going to promote the
- 43:49Speaker 2: movie and the album and do a whole tour. We
- 43:52Speaker 2: did that tour for like seven or eight months. It
- 43:55Speaker 2: was only supposed to be four months, but we sold
- 43:57Speaker 2: our numbers were doing so well. They had us like
- 44:00Speaker 2: going back and doing those like cities again and it
- 44:04Speaker 2: was like they saw touring was like just so successful, right.
- 44:09Speaker 2: And the parents. What's great about the touring for us
- 44:12Speaker 2: was you've got parents who have one kid or two kids,
- 44:16Speaker 2: and now this is getting to be their first concert
- 44:19Speaker 2: and the parents are getting the bandana and the glow
- 44:23Speaker 2: stick and the our merch records were just going razy
- 44:27Speaker 2: because they're getting it for them.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Like, by the way, I need a Cheetah Girls shirt.
- 44:31Speaker 1: I love me a merch shirt.
- 44:33Speaker 2: I'll see if I can find one.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Oh, if you can send it my way, I will, I.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Will, I'll see if I can find one. What's cool
- 44:41Speaker 2: now is they're doing these records like albums.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Like like a throwback, like the ones that.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Go on like the record a vinyl thinking they've got
- 44:50Speaker 2: vinyls now for the first movies. So then they went.
- 44:53Speaker 2: But what we were doing is it was a Cheetah
- 44:55Speaker 2: Girls tour and a high school musical tour. Miley said,
- 44:58Speaker 2: you want to hear something crazy? I just can't. The
- 45:01Speaker 2: Jonas Brothers were our opening opening act on our Christmas tour.
- 45:07Speaker 2: They were driving did you watch their doc Holli? They
- 45:09Speaker 2: drove around and like a twelve person van. They were
- 45:13Speaker 2: in that van like going behind like our tour bus.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Al was our open So they opened for Ali and
- 45:19Speaker 2: aj who opened for us. Isn't that crazy? That was
- 45:23Speaker 2: before they had really that was like kind of part
- 45:26Speaker 2: of their beginning into getting into the channel.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Wow.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Why Miley Cyrus opened for that second tour for us.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Vanessa Hudgens opened for us, an artist who was so adorable.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Jordan Pruitt opened for us. We had this great talent
- 45:41Speaker 2: coming and opening for us and then going on their
- 45:44Speaker 2: own tour. So all the tours were segregated. Now they're
- 45:47Speaker 2: doing these like World Collide, so you can go, I'm
- 45:51Speaker 2: going to take Monroe if you want to go in, Okay,
- 45:54Speaker 2: tell me one. I want this Sibby Monroe's first concert.
- 45:57Speaker 2: It's gonna be camp Rock three Kids, Descendants Kids and
- 46:01Speaker 2: Zombies Kids, and they do full blown shows. They'll have production,
- 46:04Speaker 2: they'll be amazing, they'll be my gosh, we're going.
- 46:06Speaker 1: You are going. But I have the time of my
- 46:09Speaker 1: life talking to you. I'm going to go home tonight.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I'm making popcorn with my daughter with Eminem's in the bed,
- 46:16Speaker 1: just because I told her we're doing it on a
- 46:19Speaker 1: night that I can make the popcorn. We do popcorn
- 46:22Speaker 1: in the bed like every night, and I was like,
- 46:23Speaker 1: I need a little break from the popcorn in but
- 46:25Speaker 1: tonight's the night.
- 46:28Speaker 2: But it is always there in the morning, and you're
- 46:30Speaker 2: like rolling around in the right.
- 46:33Speaker 1: That's exactly how it is. So I very much appreciate
- 46:36Speaker 1: you coming on Traditionally.
- 46:38Speaker 2: This was so incredible. When I got the call, I
- 46:41Speaker 2: couldn't believe it, and I was like, when and.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Where, when and where and here we are. We brought
- 46:45Speaker 1: her all the way from the O C right. I'm
- 46:48Speaker 1: so grateful you guys, Thank you for listening to another
- 46:51Speaker 1: episode of Untraditionally. La La I'm gonna catch you guys
- 46:53Speaker 1: next week. Bye.
