Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: You know, as writers, we face a lot of enemies.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Procrastination, fear of failure, creative fatigue, jealousy, and so many other hurdles.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: But here's an enemy I bet you haven't thought of before, and that's indecision.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Indecision is a horrible enemy that can totally kill your progress.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: It seems like there are a million decisions we have to make as a writer just to have success at a basic level.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Well, if you're a perfectionist, you won't make decisions because you're always waiting for more information.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And you're always thinking that you have to do more research or you have to gather more information or you have to read this other book or you have to listen to this other podcast before you can make an informed decision about something.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: But honestly, that's just a recipe for disaster.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: If you're trying to make a decision, just look at the info you have in front of you, maybe consult with somebody who knows more than you do, and then pull the trigger.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Make that decision.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: The baseball great Yogi Bear famously said, when you come to a fork in the road, take it.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: And that is great advice for taking action and not getting stuck on the hamster wheel of indecision.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Plus, the great thing about the book world is that you can always release another edition of your book, or you can make changes to your files if you're uploading them to Amazon.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: There are very few decisions in the book world that can't be corrected or adjusted in some way down the road.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Indecision is a thief that will steal your joy, give you lots of anxiety, and keep you from making progress.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Remember that your 90% is other people's 100%.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Don't let indecision and don't let being a perfectionist rob you of the success that you deserve.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: You know, one of the best ways to combat decision fatigue and perfectionism is by being a part of a great community of writers who are taking action toward their goals.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: And that's exactly why I created the Daily Rider community.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: For years, I searched for the kind of group that I would want to join as a writer, and I could never find exactly what I wanted, so I just created my own, to be honest with you.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: And it has been such a blast and such a joy in my life to lead this community these last few months since we launched.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Some of the features of the Daily Writer community include weekly writing sprints, monthly community calls, help from writing mentors, calls with guest experts, and so much more.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: For more info, you can visit dailywriterlife.comslash community.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much, and I'll see you tomorrow.
