- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with coach Orriema on the way. If it's basketball,
- 0:02Speaker 1: ready to say, I look up and I go.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I can't say that there are more Yukon fans in
- 0:07Speaker 2: Milwaukee than there were. I mean actually had her own
- 0:10Speaker 2: personal section up in the second row. In the second section,
- 0:14Speaker 2: they had thirty nine hundred. That's a great little arena.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it's great.
- 0:17Speaker 1: It's great little size for them.
- 0:18Speaker 2: They've had a big East tournament there, but it can
- 0:20Speaker 2: be a tough place to play. Husky's get going over
- 0:23Speaker 2: on Wednesday. That's in Philly, and if you're listening to
- 0:26Speaker 2: terrestrial radio, it'll be on the River one oh five
- 0:29Speaker 2: nine because the Men played exact same time on the network.
- 0:32Speaker 2: But all the other apps and Serious Exam those are
- 0:34Speaker 2: all available in fact around channel eighty four. I want
- 0:37Speaker 2: to say for Serious Exam six thirty regardless, one more
- 0:41Speaker 2: thing about Azy before we get to Sarah Easy.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Seems to be very even keeled.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Do you see that in practice too?
- 0:50Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's like in life.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Everything.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Everything, it's like this.
- 1:00Speaker 4: You know, we have a for the longest time, we
- 1:03Speaker 4: have a saying up at school that whenever I ask
- 1:06Speaker 4: someone a question, so tell me, what are you thinking
- 1:14Speaker 4: about this.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Snow that's coming. That's just that, and the person goes,
- 1:26Speaker 3: mm hmmm, let me see.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Thinker's post going on here.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:37Speaker 4: So we say you're doing an easy because you know,
- 1:44Speaker 4: ever since she's been here, it's just her personality. You
- 1:48Speaker 4: you ask her a question and she takes her time
- 1:52Speaker 4: answering the question. There's no you know, as a post a.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Let's say, kk, I have a question, look, and then
- 2:01Speaker 4: she answers it. I said, that wasn't the question I
- 2:04Speaker 4: was going to ask. So some people are just really
- 2:07Speaker 4: high strung, you know, and they're like, go go, go,
- 2:09Speaker 4: go go all the time, and you know, easies like
- 2:11Speaker 4: this like that. It's and her game is like that,
- 2:16Speaker 4: which is actually probably not a bad thing.
- 2:20Speaker 3: It's not a bad thing.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I mean, it's hard on coaches and everybody because you
- 2:23Speaker 4: don't know what she's thinking, you know, because she doesn't
- 2:26Speaker 4: show you anything. Yeah, but maybe it's not bad when
- 2:29Speaker 4: you're you know, when you're a shooter like that, you
- 2:32Speaker 4: don't react to misshots or bad plays. You just kind
- 2:36Speaker 4: of move on to the next thing. Yeah, And so
- 2:39Speaker 4: I think I think that serves her well.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Sarah seems Sarah kind of seems to be that way too. Now,
- 2:44Speaker 2: first half you mentioned one for nine and a couple
- 2:46Speaker 2: of bunnies that she missed. But second half, there are
- 2:49Speaker 2: three consecutive plays, was the same play over and over,
- 2:51Speaker 2: but she just and she even showed a little bit
- 2:54Speaker 2: of attitude.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Yeah a good way, Yeah, in a good way.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And you mentioned she's one of those that didn't feel great, right,
- 3:02Speaker 2: but when she gets a little beater bonnet, that helps.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it does, it does.
- 3:07Speaker 4: And I think generally speaking, you know, I think we
- 3:11Speaker 4: have a team of pretty level headed kids who kind
- 3:16Speaker 4: of play very I don't want to say unemotional, because
- 3:20Speaker 4: they're very emotional, but you know what, they're very emotional
- 3:23Speaker 4: when they're on the bench watching your teammates play. They
- 3:26Speaker 4: get so excited about everything that all their teammates do
- 3:30Speaker 4: on the court. They're like, you know, very little, which
- 3:35Speaker 4: maybe is good, you know, I bet you. I asked
- 3:39Speaker 4: Cackle three times a day, let me see your teeth.
- 3:43Speaker 4: She never remonds. I said, there's a rumor you have teeth,
- 3:45Speaker 4: let me see him.
- 3:48Speaker 3: You know. She just plays like, which is you know,
- 3:52Speaker 3: there's nothing wrong with that.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, the dynamics a little different because I mean you
- 3:55Speaker 2: had Page who showed a lot of emotion on the
- 3:57Speaker 2: floor last year, and now yeah.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And the shirts, it's very different.
- 4:00Speaker 4: We don't we don't necessarily you know, have that, you
- 4:06Speaker 4: know other than kk KK got that.
- 4:09Speaker 3: But you know, you look at the ashes, pretty level
- 4:11Speaker 3: headed easies that way.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Alley's away, yeah, which which maybe is a good thing.
- 4:19Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Speaking of KK, she likes playing at home, that's for sure.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Yeah, she's had a lot of great games up.
- 4:24Speaker 1: She had a marvelous game on Saturday.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I mean, you know, forget to you know, forget the
- 4:28Speaker 2: shooting three for four, but you know, six rebounds, which
- 4:31Speaker 2: led the team first time she's led them in rebounding
- 4:33Speaker 2: this year, career high NINEUSUS one turnover, had ten points.
- 4:38Speaker 2: And I noticed she doesn't have that big tape job
- 4:41Speaker 2: on her finger anymore.
- 4:42Speaker 1: That's got to.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Help, I know.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I think the game before that, I think she really
- 4:46Speaker 4: got aggravated with it and uh.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hard to feel the ball that way.
- 4:53Speaker 4: But she was shooting a grate with that thing on
- 4:55Speaker 4: her finger, with all that tape on her finger, I
- 4:57Speaker 4: don't know, and it was on her right hand, and
- 4:59Speaker 4: she she was making more threes than she made the
- 5:02Speaker 4: last three years come two years combined. So who knows,
- 5:07Speaker 4: you know, but between the mask and all that rap
- 5:10Speaker 4: and yeah, yeah, I'm glad little by little. I don't
- 5:16Speaker 4: know if the mask is going to go soon. I'm
- 5:18Speaker 4: not sure. I'm not sure. But you know, Ali's mask
- 5:22Speaker 4: is gone.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You know, she only wore that for one game, I think.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Yeah, so, you know, but Kk's is a little bit different.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I think her situation is a little bit different. But KK,
- 5:35Speaker 4: how long are you gonna wear that mask? Coach is cool.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Like, all right, Hey, Feley, Edward's gonna work for you?
- 5:42Speaker 1: Or why not?
- 5:43Speaker 4: I mean, I said, what are you gonna be, Rip Hamilton?
- 5:45Speaker 4: You're gonna wear it for the rest of.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Your life, wear.
- 5:47Speaker 3: It to your wedding or something. What are you gonna do?
- 5:49Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know, people get people get accustomed to
- 5:53Speaker 4: things and they love it.
- 5:54Speaker 3: They love it.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Do you are you starting to worry at all about
- 5:57Speaker 2: rebounding with this team starting to Hey, first first eleven games,
- 6:02Speaker 2: you were, guys were really good, especially in the offensive glass. Yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I mean season low three against Creighton offensive rebounds. But
- 6:09Speaker 2: the wild thing is Creighton had eleven offensive rebounds. They
- 6:12Speaker 2: didn't score off any of them.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Yeah, well, that's that's Creighton's fault. I mean, it's it's
- 6:17Speaker 4: great that you know they didn't score, but still yeah, no, No,
- 6:24Speaker 4: we are not a great rebounding team. Sarah is a
- 6:27Speaker 4: great rebounder. Sarah Strong is a great rebounder. But as
- 6:32Speaker 4: a team, we are not a great rebounding team.
- 6:35Speaker 3: And offensive rebounding.
- 6:38Speaker 4: We are under the impression that every shot we take
- 6:41Speaker 4: is going to go in.
- 6:42Speaker 3: And I've said this before.
- 6:44Speaker 4: You know, every shot we take, everybody just runs back
- 6:47Speaker 4: on defense like that's going in.
- 6:49Speaker 3: And that's not the way you need to play because.
- 6:53Speaker 4: The best and I say this one hundred times a day,
- 6:56Speaker 4: probably the best players in the world Hall of Fame
- 6:59Speaker 4: players miss half their shots, right that shoot fifty percent.
- 7:04Speaker 4: That means you take ten shots, five of them are
- 7:05Speaker 4: not going in. So generally speaking, the teams that win
- 7:11Speaker 4: are the teams that control the other five. And we're
- 7:14Speaker 4: not very good at that. So that's something that worries
- 7:18Speaker 4: me going forward. You know that we're not a great
- 7:21Speaker 4: rebounding team, and we don't shoot enough free throws. Now,
- 7:24Speaker 4: it's not a bad thing if we don't shoot enough
- 7:26Speaker 4: free throws, Like in the second half. Tennessee didn't attempt
- 7:30Speaker 4: a free throw against US, So it's okay, we don't
- 7:34Speaker 4: shoot a lot of free throws and neither do they.
- 7:37Speaker 4: But it can't be they shoot fifteen and we shoot four,
- 7:41Speaker 4: right right, But that is then not in the gates.
- 7:44Speaker 4: The fact that we're the number one three point shooting
- 7:46Speaker 4: team in the country.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I mean, what's the number here? I got
- 7:50Speaker 1: to happen to have it right here? Hang on, this
- 7:52Speaker 1: is my game, prip for.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Let's see here, the opponents have actually taken less free
- 7:56Speaker 2: throws than you have. You've taken three hundred and forty three,
- 8:00Speaker 2: taking too eighty nine. And here's the wild part. You know,
- 8:05Speaker 2: there were times I think this team files way too much.
- 8:08Speaker 2: They average thirteen files a game. The opponents only file
- 8:11Speaker 2: thirteen times per game, so they're not getting the line
- 8:13Speaker 2: is any more than most games, and you more times.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's about even or yeah, you're a little ahead.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I think there's three hundred and how many Division
- 8:24Speaker 4: one programs three hundred and fifty four, you know, I
- 8:27Speaker 4: don't know.
- 8:28Speaker 3: I think that's something close to that.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Getting to the line.
- 8:31Speaker 4: I think we're three hundred and thirty. There three hundred
- 8:34Speaker 4: and thirty ninth and free throws attempted.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you're in the threes for both attempts and makes
- 8:40Speaker 2: per game or total.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, but we're number one in the country.
- 8:46Speaker 1: At three point percentage. At least, you know, at least
- 8:49Speaker 1: you were.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Back in the day when the game was different, the
- 8:56Speaker 4: game was much different. One of our goals that we
- 9:01Speaker 4: would put up on on on this you know the
- 9:05Speaker 4: board all the time, was that every game we would
- 9:11Speaker 4: want to make more free throws than the other team
- 9:15Speaker 4: would attempt. So by the end of the season, you know,
- 9:22Speaker 4: if a team attempted three hundred and fifty free throws
- 9:25Speaker 4: against us, we wanted to have made four hundred. You know,
- 9:30Speaker 4: that means we're more aggressive. We're foiling less, but we're
- 9:33Speaker 4: attacking the backboard, we're getting to the free throw line,
- 9:36Speaker 4: we're fouling out your best players, We're able to set
- 9:40Speaker 4: up our pressure better, you know, all those good things.
- 9:43Speaker 4: But the way the game has changed right now. Back then,
- 9:46Speaker 4: we weren't shooting thirty five and threes a game, right so,
- 9:50Speaker 4: you know, you traded those three point plays for these
- 9:54Speaker 4: three point shots. And that's why I think the way
- 9:59Speaker 4: the game is going. If you're a big if you're
- 10:02Speaker 4: a big player, you're a big guy playing college basketball
- 10:06Speaker 4: or anything, and you can't shoot, there's very very little
- 10:12Speaker 4: room for you to be on a high level college
- 10:16Speaker 4: basketball team or to be a pro basketball player.
- 10:20Speaker 2: All right, we're with Gino. We're live at the Hollow Restaurant.
- 10:22Speaker 2: It's the Ukon of Women's Basketball Coaches Show on Learfield.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Then we are back in a minute.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Stay with us.
