- 0:05[SPEAKER_02]: Hello and top of the part in Tugia and welcome to the M&UV NFL podcast I'm Conoror that's Albert Breard St. Patrick's Day and how about this shit as we drop off our kids for school and we get them going.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: A little bit of angry buzz at the Orhouse this morning because apparently a leprechaun supposed to come to your house and make a mess.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is the latest
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: There's a trap in there's gold that's supposed to be hidden and I put my foot down and not in front of the kids Obviously, I would never do that, but like my wife and I are talking about this out of my home from drop-off.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, okay First the goddamn elves come and they and they wreck the house for like 30 straight days of just like Oh, oh, there's powdered sugar in front of the fridge and like then who got to sweet that up like
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't do growing up.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't do it off on the shelf, but Emily was very big on it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so like now, yeah, you do up on the shelf.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: And then it's like this thing where you got to keep up in the stakes and up in the stakes and up in the stakes.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: And then Valentine's Day comes right around the corner.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: You need you look a little basket and you need your Valentine's and you do all that stuff and then it's thrown around the house.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_02]: And then after that, now we got to do same pat like now a leprechaun comes and messes up my house.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: There's no way.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like if I'm not doing it, not doing it.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I am I'm like roughly 25% Irish.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think would be like the percentage for me.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: I thought you were going to say I'm roughly 25 years older than you.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: of what percentage are you?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like 90, I'm just like nothing else.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: You're very high, okay.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: So my wife, we live in what, in a part of Massachusetts that's referred to as the Irish Riviera.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: So it is a, the South Shore.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: So it Massachusetts, if you go north, it's Italian, if you go south, it's, it's called the Irish Riviera.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: You remember the old sports, right?
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: So like obviously I think everybody knows like he was an associate of whitey bulger and all of that like and he was very close with the bulger family which for people don't know why these brother was actually like a state senator in Massachusetts Billy Bulger right it was the president of UMass for a time.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: So the story goes that Wilmic Dunna's wife was so sick of Willie and his cronies and southeas that we got to get out of here
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: And she said, we have to live at least 15 miles away.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was, or we need to go leave at least 10 miles away, something like that.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: So he literally got on the highway and drove 10 miles and wound up in
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: That was the old story, but I think that's how the South Shore Boston became very Irish, as people came down from South Boston.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: And so I am part Irish, like when I went to the Midwest, I would probably consider very Irish.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: Here I am.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: Not very Irish compared to compared to most people and my wife isn't either But we're both Catholics so we have that part of it and that going for you.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: I tell I tell Emily I'm like I'm like she gets annoyed with like some of the stuff dressed in the kids up in green I'm like well your kids are part eyes.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: She's at they are not And I'm like well they are I guess if I'm a quarter Irish that would make them 12.5% Irish right like so somewhere in there
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: This is a fight my kids are a big mishmash of Polish Greek Irish Austrian Scottish German.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so you're like what you're like why 23 in me exists.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas I just have to take one look around and everyone in my family and everyone's got big old red nose flat red noses and I'm just like, yeah, I know where I'm from.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: I know like this isn't seem to be
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's funny.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: We were actually a family gathering over the weekend and my wife's Italian and you know, it's just like this big Irish family, but one of my great aunts married a guy named Angelo who's very Italian and that's fine.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: He came all the way across the gathering, and he's very old at this point.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: And it was a great name, by the way, if I had a boy, I would name it.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'd name like Angelo or Carmine or so.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: And he came all the way across the event to see my wife, and he's just like, finally we got another one.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's so happy that there was just not all these, it's like milky Irish people just milling about he's like finally like he's just somebody else here that looks a little bit different and probably makes better food.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, on part Croatian too, so there are throw that in the thread and the bucket also you like the you just got like the combinations.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, it's my mom used to work there actually fun fact.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_02]: Nice, we got the, we have like, I guess a duty at this point, like it's funny, you feel bad for your free agent that doesn't make, you don't get into free agency frenzy.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's like being on love is blinding.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: You don't make it to the to the hook up resort after, you know, it's just like your part of free agency frenzy, but you're not like everyone's talking about you, but then you don't get signed or you choose not to sign.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: But then we kind of just forget about all these people until after the draft, but I do think that we bear some responsibility to talk about the fact that there's I don't know probably at least
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: 12, 13, 14, pretty good players that are left on the market, non quarterbacks.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: And then I want to separate that into quarterbacks.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to kind of put a bow on this.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: But let's start with the passers Albert.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: And here's what we got, at least in my mind, Kirk Cousins is still out there.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: Aaron Rodgers is still out there.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: We have Joe Flacco that's still out there.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: there is the idea, even though no teams have reached out to the Saints about Derrick Carr that Derrick Carr might be out there.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: Who am I missing?
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: The Tyrod tailor will be a red tailor like yeah like so I mean I think you're looking at it like the music is
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: stopping, maybe it's not stopped yet, but there are how many chairs left, right?
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like so, oh Jimmy Garoppolo would be in a game.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy G would be in an in the name, yeah.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: So, like I do we have to separate Rogers?
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: We have to have the Rogers question.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Rogers is a separate discussion.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so I think that I agree that I think there's two quarterbacks actually that are separate.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's Rogers who's out here and then in a different way, Garoppolo because there was what was going on with Arizona that I think deserves mentioning.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: But let's kick it off with Rogers because this is what everybody's wondering.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: And Rogers was on
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: McAfee a couple weeks ago, two weeks ago now and saying that there was no contract offer.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: Our buddy Mike G over it and it found that work reported that the Steelers while they wait for Aaron Rogers are sniffing around on quarterback.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: So to me, it seems like that there is a misunderstanding on Rogers' part as to whether there is a contract offer on the table.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: If you're Mike McCarthy, you need to know at some point and it's unbelievable to me.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: that we are just back here again, add nauseam for like the fifth straight off season.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: Well, so, like, what's going on?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: I know and it's crazy because every year at the start of the offseason he says I'm not going to drag this out and then he drags it out.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I and I do think to some degree, you know, what protects the Steelers here is the multitude of quarterbacks that are available with starting experience.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: So right, they're not completely screwed and I do wonder if, you know, for
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: you know, current cousins for Joe Flacco, if, you know, they're waiting to see what happens with their enrageers before they make any sort of move, you know, interesting.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: So it's one of I think like two, and you could say three.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: would legitimately open the starting jobs right now.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think it's Pittsburgh, Arizona, Vegas would be free, probably, right?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: And Vegas is like obviously like that's a placeholder, right?
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like so, right, if Fernando Mendoza is ready to start week one, then you're not gonna start, but like you could be, you know, have an interesting opportunity there at least to start for part of the year.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: The Steelers,
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: I really felt like when they signed Aaron Rogers last year because I think this is important and this is the foundation of the conversation.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: I thought last year, when they signed Aaron Rogers, it was, here is our one last shot with this core of players with TJ Watt, with Cam Hayward, with DK Metcalf coming in with, you know, that group of players that they had assembled
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and then there are some guys that are close to the prime of their careers like your Alex high semester, you know, your Patrick Queen's jail and Ramsey and older player on the roster and it was like, okay, so here we go, like this team has not won a playoff game and almost a decade, but we're going to give them the best shot by giving them Aaron Rogers and when it didn't work to the degree that they'd hoped it would work because they still didn't win a playoff game, I figured.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: time to start over.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Then right.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on leave.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, okay.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is perfect.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to bring in a young coach like a Christian and you're going to strip it down.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: And it's time to rebuild.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: And it's time to move on.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: Some of them guys doesn't mean you're going to be doesn't mean you're sinking to the bottom of the league, but it is time to really kind of rework.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: the core of the roster.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: And instead, they hire Mike McCarthy, which tells me they don't want to be bad, and they don't want to go through an adjustment period, right?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: And our Rooney still wants to, you know, keep the team where it is and win on a year to year basis.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then they trade for Michael Pittman, and then they bring Kim Hayward back.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right, artists see all of these things, they go and sign Riko Dattel.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: And it just tells me, like, no, they're not rebuilding.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: They're not reworking the roster.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: They're looking to win right now, still with the group that they have.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: So it sets up for Aaron Rogers to walk right back in, you know, and
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: you know, especially with the McCarthy thing, which I don't the McCarthy I always made separate from whether or not Aaron comes back.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: But certainly I think it doesn't hurt to have, you know, guy that that Aaron worked for for 13 years as the quarterback.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: See, she was what I wonder though, because I think that's the coach, I mean, not the quarterback is the coach, yeah.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think we can all agree that it's easy for everyone to sit here and say that, oh, yeah, time has passed.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: We love being together again.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: you remember the end of the Rogers McCarthy era like it was prime time television and he's getting play calls into his headset and rolling his eyes like oddly waiting off play calls.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: What's that?
- 11:43[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen this before though.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: Right, but it's like how is Tom Brady talk about Bella check now and he was on with him.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what I mean.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like I just you know, we've we've seen time he'll wounds before though, you know, yeah.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but if you're McCarthy is that
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: where you want to go because I mean, he, I think here's the other side of this.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: This is your dream job.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's probably always been to some degree.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: This is your last coaching job.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: You are coming in on the heels of like a historic streak of 500 or better seasons and to the fanbase
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: that is not good enough right and so is this how you want to run it back i don't know i mean like did he walk in and he was just like yeah like this is what this is how i want this to look i don't know yeah and i i but i think that's part of the deal though like i think you know
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: Again, like, one of my favorite facts about the, you know, during the coaching cycle this year was that Mike McCarthy was the oldest coach and Steelers history, the minute he walked in the door and saying, you know what I mean?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, you hire a guy in a day one.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's the oldest coach in a nearly 100 year history of the franchise.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, but I don't think you're again, like, I don't think you're doing that unless you think
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: team is good enough to compete in the here in the now.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: And like again, like I think they're moved since then, bringing Cam Hayward back, trading for Michael Pittman, signing Rico Dattle, like all point in that direction, they all point in the, no, we're going to do this again.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: And what does TJ Watt have left at this point?
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like they double down on him.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think most teams have played against them would tell you they were more concerned with Alex, Alex Heisman, then this is in a shot at TJ Watt, but that's just sort of what it's become.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: And all like, so again, like what is this gonna look like?
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: What is this gonna look like in October, in November and December?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think for Aaron Rogers and in particular,
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: The reason this works is because as quarterbacks get older, they start to, you know, I remember talking to Brady about this and he would, he uses hands to describe it, right?
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: And he says like, as you get older, you're knowledge of the game is going like this and your physical ability is going like this.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: So his whole thing was what if I can get it to it?
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: What if I can make it so my physical ability is like that and right we're watching a YouTube can see it if you're listening.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: You can't and my my knowledge of the game is going like this.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right right so like but I think one of the things about that with Brady was this is why the Patriots could never
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: never put rookie receivers on the field.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: You got older, and you look at the guys who succeeded with Brady over the years.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: They were most of them were veteran acquisitions, you know?
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was Wes Welker, Julian Edelman didn't come around until later in his career, right?
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: It took him like five years, Danny M. Andola was a veteran acquisition.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Hogan was a veteran acquisition.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: Randy Moss came in at the end of his career there were I mean Deon branch was like the unicorn of the group so like I look at this for Aaron You've got DK Metcalf going into year seven
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: For eight, I think you're eight for DK McAfron.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Michael Pittman, he's right around there.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Easy, easy, he's not far off from that.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: Pat Fryer moves his on his second contract.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: Where you go, Dattle is a veteran back going into your sixth I believe you've got this offensive line in front of you that now has played together for a couple of years.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: It actually sets up.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: for Aaron to play offense the way he wants to play offense.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: And you have his old coach there, you know?
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I just like look at the totality of all of that.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, this, it's almost like they're saying, hey, come on back, you know what I mean, like Darren.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I do think for Aaron, like one of the things for him, and this is just, you know, kind of an aggregation of my own conversations with him over the years, I do think like,
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: He got to a point last year where he was really starting to enjoy football again, you know, and just football for football.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: And not worrying about, you know, you know, all the other stuff that he engaged in, you know, like that was what he was looking for the last few years.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think he found it in Pittsburgh.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I think there's a good chance he still comes back and I do wonder how long the Steelers are willing to wait for the final answer on that.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, so let me let me put it to this way.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we have the draft in like a month and a half.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_02]: What's your percentage chance that Rogers has a sign contract?
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: And is on the team's website on the roster by the time that that takes place.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know like 51% I guess.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: So what do you think?
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I just can't say with any confidence.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's hardly not going to say that it's 90.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think that, and here's why I think you made a great point at the top of the show.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: Everything now is at a standstill.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: Because let's imagine at some point that Roger is just like, you know what, I want to live.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: In, uh, I want to live in the Philippines, I'm done, you know, I'm going to get out of here.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: That changes Kirk Cousins' plans, that changes the idea of whether or not you'd call Derek Carrs and changes Joe Flacco's plan, you know, changes everybody's plans.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't it weird to like, I almost feel like this is a strange one too, because I almost feel like with each day he doesn't retire.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: The chances of him retiring go down.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: each day that he doesn't retire, the chances of him were to, yes, I agree with that.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, that was probably like not.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: No, that makes sense.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I create use of the English language there, but like I, uh, I, I think like with, but I think like as this goes on,
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like you just had I just think back to last year where Mike Tomlin and Arthur Smith and those guys were completely unaffected and they had like kind of a quiet.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: affirmation that he'd be there.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and so if you have that quiet affirmation that he's going to be there, it's just, I mean, to me, it's, it, it feels like we're going to get another year, we're in Rogers, which would be year 22 for him.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: I believe right, which by the way, isn't, you know, I, I've said this to everybody.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think he was good.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: And here's here's where that's almost a Brady by the way, a Brady played 23 years.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe that is something in the back of his mind.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: I know that with a good season this year, he gets soul possession of second place in the NFL's all-time touchdown pass leader board.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: And so I, you know, and I don't know if any of that matters to him or it doesn't matter to him.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: But I went back to that Ravens game last year, where
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: and there was the tipped ball that he was worried was going to get picked and he's body in up in there, you know, banging up against like the Ravens defense to try to get this ball down.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: He hasn't lost the the Hutsby, you know what I mean?
- 19:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like he really distilled possesses the ability to get to bang around.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's like the competitor who wants everybody to think he doesn't give a crap.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you kind of has that effect which is great.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like I appreciate that about him.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like yeah, it's almost like that like like he's able to kind of toggle like the I don't give a fuck persona with like actually being a pretty fierce competitor.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you become as good as he is without being a fierce competitor and he can still sling it.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the question is going to be, can you protect himself and, you know, I think that Pittsburgh line, to be honest with you, is going to continue to get better because there are good young players in that line, Fraser, and Fatanu, and McCormick, I'm like, I just, I,
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm talking myself into them being pretty good this year.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: Now we'll see.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: I can only make room for because age and injury is inevitable and mother nature and all these kind of things.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: But like, it's either the 49ers of the Steelers for me.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: I have to pick one geriatric franchise to believe in.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: And here's my one problem with Pittsburgh and I'll leave it at that.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: And we can move on to the rest of the world much to Aaron Rodger's sugar in.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: We, I'm in this always sticks in my head.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_02]: I remember doing a story on Adam Stenavich, which is the Packers Offensive Coordinator, and talking to the offensive line that was there from McCarthy and then there when Adam came.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: And here's the one thing that sticks out to me.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: is that, guys like David Bhaktiari would say, I was on an island in McCarthy's offense for 60 snaps a game.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know, if you're a left tackle, that means that you are dropping back one-on-one against an elite red dress you're 60 times.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: That is exhausting.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: A Mike McCarthy offense doesn't necessarily have what like a La Flora offense had, what art Smith's offense had,
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: intricately tied into the past and that and what that gives you is like that every play looks like it might be a run play every play looks like five different things yeah and it takes some of the stress off of your offensive line if we're if we're putting McCarthy back with Rogers and Rogers would presumably want to run a version of the offense that was the Rogers
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: You know, are you how good do you feel about broadric Jones?
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think Troy Fatanu is in a little bit of a different spot where I think he's getting better.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think the curve is going up there.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: Broadric Jones is like your anchor left tackle in that kind of an offense.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we'll see.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's gonna be tough.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_02]: The tournament's back, the upsets are inevitable and underdog is the best place to get in on all the action playing on underdog is easy.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: Just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on stats like points, rebounds, assist, steels, and more.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: Get your picks right and you could win up to 5,000 times your cash this week on underdog.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking at Duke's cambooser for higher than 18 points and Darius A-Coff.

- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: I had enough about Rogers.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm tired.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm tired of it.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of other quarterbacks here.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: And so you tell me this because sometimes I get fixated on a player and there's just nothing left.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: And it's especially true for some veterans.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: But I didn't really understand why the Falcons picked to over Kirk Cousins in the first place.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: They could have resigned Kirk after they let him go.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: To rework that contract, now I understand the financial part of it obviously like nine million or ten million dollars is a big difference But why isn't Kirk Cousins kind of at the forefront of these conversations he played well in Relief of Panics last year the Falcons almost backed into the playoffs again What what to you is the like why isn't like McCarthy just being like I'm not waiting for Aaron Rodgers Let's just roll with Kirk Cousins
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think for him, well, I think to some degree it's like a result of what Kirk, it's a result of what he wants, right, like, which I think he wants more than the minimum and it's which is a result of what he just went through with Atlanta where he felt like he was told one thing and another thing happened and so like I think there are a few different ways that this could go for Kirk, which is.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, really like one, he winds up getting a starting job somewhere, which again, there are a couple left, like I'd say Arizona, if he goes to Arizona, he's the Clubecut starter.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: If he goes to Vegas, he's at least the placeholder.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: If he goes to Pittsburgh and Rogers isn't retiring, then he can go, then, then he can be a starter there.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: He goes to a really good team to be a backup and have a chance to win or he waits and he allows the market to evolve and you know does the proverbial waiting for someone else to get injured thing?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: Which is risky because this isn't necessarily, it doesn't, it doesn't, it's not a
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I think for Kirk it's more, you know, okay, like,
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to wait or are you going to go and I think that a lot of that I mean it feels to me at least like Pittsburgh's the one that he's waiting on right now and then Wester's more clarity and Pittsburgh maybe the domino start to fall for him as far as just what it not not that he's going to sign right away after that but At least then there might be a little more clarity on what his plan is for for finding a new team.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Pittsburgh, obviously, it would be where I'd want to go if I was Kirk Cousins.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's a high level starting quarterback, you know, opportunity, beyond that.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: I guess the Raiders would be my second choice and I think that he's probably the Raiders first choice, right?
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Tom Brady has talked a lot about what Drew Bletsod meant to him, how he helped him out in his career, how he wants that body, that person in there for when he eventually drafts quarterback.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I think we all can agree that the Raiders are going to take quarterback number one overall.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think that Kirk Cousins makes a lot of sense.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: Arizona is the interesting team to me.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: And so I'll bring Jimmy Garoppolo to the stage here.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_02]: We all thought initially that might be the landing spot for him, right?
- 26:39[SPEAKER_02]: The Cardinals didn't go from a leak.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: Will us even though the head coach is brother, coached him last year, okay, Willis ends up going to Miami.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly the negotiations hit a snag with Arizona.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that there's a chance that he goes back to the Cardinals?
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: Or do you think that that one's dead?
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's impossible.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now you have mentioned there.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: You have been set there.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're doing what the dolphins and the browns and the jats are doing, which is like there's not a quarter back pass for Nando Mendoza.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: This worth going all in on in this draft.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: So how do we bridge ourselves to 2027 when there could be an alien quarterbacks in the draft, right?
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I even think for like Pittsburgh, it's like, and I think we've talked about this right like where, you know, if you're the Steelers and it wouldn't drafting Ty Simpson at the bottom of the first round be the same thing is, you know, what you went through with Kenny Pickett right years ago to come back into a corner if Rogers doesn't come back.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I think that the possibility that Garoppolo is a cardinal is still out there.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: I also wonder this, right?
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy, Jimmy definitely beats the sound of his own drum.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy marches to the beat of his own drummer.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, hang on.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy, so I would just say, like in this case,
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what do you think about the idea for him of just staying in LA?
- 28:15[SPEAKER_01]: He really was.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's the best thing that he should do.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what he should do, yeah.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: Stafford might retire after this year.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then maybe he gets a chance to start for the Rams in 2027 at least as a bridge quarterback.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: Is that better than going to Arizona?
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but that's the thing.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think anything's better than going to Arizona.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I know that you have a different opinion on
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: Marvin Harrison Jr. than many, but I think that you're starting to be a maybe a question as to whether some of this was not exclusively on Kyler for why Marvin Harrison Jr. didn't ball out there, right?
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: like that maybe, you know, this is a two-way street.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: And so if you're looking at this cardinal situation, I think it's similar to the way that we looked at the giant situation last year.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_02]: There were free agents that just didn't want to go there.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: They looked at this as doomed to some degree from the start.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: And while I think this cardinal's roster is better than the giant's roster was last year, there isn't an inevitability to how good that division is and what your limitations are.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like the cardinals were in the NFC South.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: okay you know like that's interesting right let's talk about it but they're not they're in the best division in football and while divisions can change rapidly it's three of the probably the six smartest coaches in the NFL that you're going to have to be facing on a weekly basis I don't love it and so I'm wondering if some of that is just like Jimmy Grapple being like listen
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: I worked with Michael Flore, he's great.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what he's gonna be like as a play caller.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what he's gonna be like as a hand coach.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think anybody knows what he's gonna be like.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: I would rather pick a known commodity.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: I would rather wait out Matt Stafford.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that makes sense for a lot of these guys.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: With the cardinals in particular, do you think that is this it?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, maybe the lad could.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: I have side prospect in the draft to me.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: It could be, it could be.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I wouldn't be surprised that they were a team
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Took like through Al or in the fourth round, you know, or fifth round, the idea that we're going to take one next year, and so like, let's just roll the dice and somebody who might have some upside right and the drafts, I, I, I, I mean, maybe they're tie Simpson at the top of the second round too.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't think we're actually going to be in play for them at the top of the draft.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: But, um,
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think the idea is going to be like, how do we get to 2027?
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, I think there are a few teams that are like that right now because of the drop-off after Mendoza at that position.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I'd say, you know, like honestly, like I think that there's a decent chance that they go forward with the two guys they have and then, you know, some sort of rookie but probably not one drafted in the first couple rounds.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: Disflaco come in here.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, does David car does Derek car.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, come in here and we'll make things interesting.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: It was funny.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of like, I thought about that some, you know, and I think about it with like, Malik Wallace, right, in Miami and like so there is that thought and I'm not saying that I think in this way.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: But it's like, this Malik Wallace make you too good.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like where you're going to be out of the
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: high end of the 27 draft.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: And so like some people, somebody to ask me like, why why wouldn't you, would you be better going off going just going with like, when you are.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I think part of it for Miami and for Jeff Hathley is like, yeah, like we're looking at 27, but
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: you also are trying to like establish a program.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: And it's kind of hard to do that if the player, if it's obvious to the players, what's going on?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: And like so it's pretty difficult.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think Brian Flores ran into this in Miami in 2019 when all that stuff, when all the funny business was going on, you know?
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, how hard is it to sell to your players, like buy in,
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: We want you to give everything and sell out for us and we're really building something valuable here.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: But oh yeah, like the most important position of the field we're going to neglect it completely, you know?
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's, and so I think that there's that like with the first year coaches with Michael Flore with Jeff Haffley, you know, in those two spots, you know, you have to give the players
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: something that they can wrap their arms around and be like, yeah, like this guy's going to give me a chance.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: And not just give me a chance to win as a team, but give me a chance to perform individually, because for 80, 90 percent of the players in the NFL, that's all the matters to them.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's the current year because they don't, they're going to be in the league the next year.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I think every team needed a quarterback.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: But also hoped to get in on the 2027 sweepstakes absolutely blew it by not signing Malik Willis and here's why I Just don't think he's good enough Albert and and this is not like and this is not a knock on him
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: we don't know enough on Willis A.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: We don't have enough of a sample size.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_02]: Right, B, I think even it is best is he's so good that he can overcome the shortcomings of any of the teams that need a quarterback at this point in time.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_02]: I would say no, right?
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: And what's great about him is just like the Jets got Justin Fields last year.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_02]: The contract is perfect for a high upside starter
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: and the optics of it right now are that hey guys we're trying like it hits literally every that's the way I felt about to you know what I mean and and so with my amy it's it's great because half of it can say look we went out we got the best guy and this guy we knew and it's he's the right type of guy because he is like milk well this is worked as ass off to get better there's no doubt or well at the end of the year and so yeah I think
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think the best cliche to use is they throw the needle on that, you know what I mean?
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's perfect.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: You throw the needle on.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's still, it's the optics of it are good.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: And it looks like we're making a real effort.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: But deep down, we know this isn't going to take us out of the running for anything.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: Is there any other like, I mean, is there something we're missing on this quarterback front like, is there something that you think could catastrophically surprise us?
- 34:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, do you anticipate any other.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, I think this is kind of it, right?
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the Raiders, the Raiders situation is at least like somewhat interesting, right?
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: To they have enough money to go because it's at this point because Max draws these back, you know,
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so there's that, like there's the cousin thing, you know, and so for them, you know, like, what are you looking to do and what are you looking to put in the room, we said, that's the main thing, like, what are you putting in the room with Fernando Mendoza.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: So that's number one, you know, and then I think the other one.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like, to me, Indianapolis is an interesting one for someone.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: Because here's the thing, like, I like Justin Fields and Kansas City, because Justin Fields is going to get a chance to get all the starter reps in the spring and summer, right?
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: And learn under good people.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: I like to a tongue of Aloha at Atlanta, same thing.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to get all the starter reps in the spring and summer under good quarterbacks, guys.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it is.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_02]: And that's another one where, you know, maybe, I mean, maybe Flacco goes back there.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_02]: due to the familiarity of it that he's been there before.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I mean, I think that that's something where, so let's take a look at this.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_02]: If you were to describe a situation as unsettled in any way, shape or form, what do we have left?
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: The Patriots are good, the bills are good, the dolphins are good.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: We would assume that the jets are good having brought in Gino Smith.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_02]: The Steelers are a big question mark.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_02]: The Ravens are good, the Pangles are good.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: The Browns, I mean, we just to, to believe that this is some sort of a poporee of Shidorah Sanders to Sean Watson, you know, like just kind of whoever's left in there and they're gonna kind of roll with their guys.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_02]: They've been kind of quiet on the market as well.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: Browns, yeah, I mean, I just sort of feel like it's, I don't know.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: The Browns, like the Browns are like, but I put the Browns in that category too, if like,
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: puning to 27th sort of, you know, and like I don't, I still think like if you're them getting ready to Sean Watson now, especially with the first year head coach who doesn't have all the history with them, it'd be kind of foolish because like if he goes and he's great somewhere else for whatever reason,
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's doing it on your dime.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: God does that look bad.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, you gotta do coaching there.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's like just give, and you've got like kind of like this, like one year of grace period anyway.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: Just give it another run for a year and see where it goes.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: How do you be so funny?
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's much more of how it looks great under Todd Monke.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like seriously, like, I don't know.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but if it does happen, like then you've at least,
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like the worst thing would be for them to have accumulated all this cap debt and spend all this money and you're still paying him and like that'll be the most brown thing ever right is he goes in like crushes it on the minimum somewhere else so I actually don't mind them they're paying for them anyway.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this year.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't mind them just having him back for the year, but should do our thing.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think is going anywhere.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_01]: So you see what happens there.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: Then maybe you do what I talked about the cardinals doing, which is like you take a high upside guy, a quarterback later in the draft and you punt till 27.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I think like for them,
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're sort of on the front end of active rebuild anyway.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the Travis Hunter trade last year was the first step in that direction.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: And to their credit, like they had a pretty good draft class, right?
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like with Mason Graham and Carson Swassinger and Quinschon, Juggkins and Harold Fannon and Dylan Samson and so
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think they've got a chance now to re-stock with two first round picks and put themselves in a position to have some decent infrastructure around a young quarter back in 27.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: I just, my parting thought on the 2027 thing, because now we've been talking about it at Nazim, and I think that there probably will be at least close to the number of draftable first round quarterbacks as we had the year with Caleb, with Bonyx, with Jaden Daniels, with Michael Panics.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: Now, are all these guys gonna be good?
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: No, obviously.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's what we saw with that draft class, right?
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: That some of these guys are just overdrafted and they get lumped into the hype.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: But what is interesting is that I think that there are so many teams that are going to be dependent on replenishing that quarterback from in 2027 that they're going to get left out of that game musical chairs, you know, archman and can go back to school again, you know, and I mean, like in, you know, CJ car can go back to school again, and he might, you know, Notre Dame could win the national championship, probably will.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then, um, he could say, man's got eligibility, like, yeah, yeah, maybe let's run it back.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so I'm just, you know, let's let's just a lot of variables and like that.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's the thing about next year's draft class, too, is like, I feel like there's like a dozen guys who have a shot.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: But you don't have like the, what Caleb Williams or Drake may were at this point in 23.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Which was we knew or what Trevor Lawrence was at this point in 20 we knew what Justin Herbert was you know in in 19 we knew he was following the top five you know right with you know with these guys is more it's the it's the massive number of them right like Dante more is probably the closest
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: I would say to like, yeah, he's going to be a top five pick, but I'm not even sure you can talk about him with the same sort of certain we were talking about, you know, we were talking about with, you know, Caleb Williams or Drake may three years ago and so like that's the other piece of it is that.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you have a high probability because it's just a massive number of guys, so like 12 or 13 or 14 of them have a shot, so there's a good chance for a five hit, but like there's no, it's not a sure it's not a sure thing.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see what happens there, but that's the risk that a lot of teams are taking and I don't blame them for taking that list because I would rather do that than overdraft some quarterback that you know doesn't have high end traits.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: And now, for the next two or three years, you're off the quarterback market, you know, and this is sort of what happened with Kenny pick it sort of what happened with back Jones, you know, you find yourself you take yourself off the market for quarterbacks, the guy isn't quite good enough, and then, you know, you're back three years later, drafting another one.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: Let's move on to the guys who.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_02]: non-coater backs, who we think might be a factor in this whole thing.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to start with AJ Brown, because like Aaron Rogers, I think he's his own entity.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_02]: Every day, the tenor of the reports change, whether it's that the rams are thinking about it and getting in on it with Devonta Adams, and then the Eagles were pretty confident they're going to trade them.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be the Patriots.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_02]: Now they don't know, and they're not sure.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think, here's my first thought is I don't
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I can tell you, based on my reporting, there were four teams involved at the, like, and this was AJ Brown's list.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: Was, I think he knew the Rams didn't, or the Eagles didn't want to trade him to the, to an NFC team.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: So the four AFC teams are the Patriots, the Bills, the Chargers and the Chiefs.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: The Bills took themselves off the market by trading for DJ Moore, the, you know, Chargers and Chiefs didn't show much interest at all.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: That left the Patriots.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure the ram for more than a stocking horse here.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: Stocking horse.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: I look at it like.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: Are they doing this to maybe give Pook and a Kua, kicking the ass?
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: Mm.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's haven't been perfect with Pook.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say that.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I just, I sort of wonder, is it like, hey, look, we have options here if we need them.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, interesting.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: Do you see how he was treating like a front line platter to the rams?
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, uh, first of all, like, yeah, I just, I don't know.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: There was something about that whole thing that smelled funny from the very beginning.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: And like the only thing I could think of is maybe there's some sort of mutual benefit for his name, for the Rams name being, and for the Rams being involved, the benefit for the Eagles would be, would be obvious, right?
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: Which is like, we need someone competing with New England
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: Let's make sure that like we're framing the Puka negotiation that's coming and look like again, like it wasn't perfect all the feel for him last year.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's frame that the right way.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see if we can make sure that he knows like, you know, like he doesn't have us over a barrel here.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and he said it, it focused that an interesting off season, but let's just put it out there.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like, he's kind of if I if I was just like, I mean, I would just say like, I would just say like from my perspective, it's like I.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know they talked, but I just, I don't see how he trading, I don't see how he trading the, one of his best players to maybe the biggest roadblock to get that guy's full.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I don't, I just, I don't know, and like again, I said, that's not coming from the Eagles, like that's just my own thought process and having covered how he
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: you know, as many years as I have, the other part to this too, and I've talked to AJ Brown about this, how tumultuous that first trade from Tennessee to Philadelphia was.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was a really rare that you have, I mean, straight on the clock, wasn't he?
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but it, it, it, it, it, rectus mental health.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was not a good situation for him.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: He had had assurances that he was going to remain in Tennessee.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: They had the right day care for the kid.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_02]: Like there was a lot happening.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_02]: There was an issue with the knee and all that.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_02]: There was a lot happening in his life at that point in time.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: And AJ is a guy who feels things.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's not one of those players.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like businesses, business, AJ's different.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that you need to make accommodations for that.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_02]: If you're how we, I think that the part of this chess game that might end up coming back
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: is like, you can't get him all the way to the edge and then bring him back.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't think you can't.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, because AJ is such that, like, while I'm sure that they're trying to handle it the right way and he's got a list and you're trying to facilitate this in a meaningful way.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: AJ, I'm guessing, feels in some sort of part of his brain.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: that like, hey, you don't want me anymore.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_02]: And then that's a light switch that just goes off.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the problem, I think that you run into here is like, okay, he gave you a list.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the market was limited.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: The best thing for the team is to hold on to him in the circumstance where maybe you can't get enough for him.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, it's like it's hard to argue.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like, should the Eagles take like a discounted,
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: a discount and package to get AJ Brown off the roster.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think most people would say no.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would also get the sense of the Patriots are pretty determined not to not to overpay bit against themselves, which I think that they are sort of on to the fact that maybe that's what's happening here.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: And when you add all that together, where is it turned into?
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: It turns into a steering contest.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: Right, you know, and so I, you know, I think there's a, I think there's a good shot.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_01]: He winds up with the Patriots, but I mean, I, I don't like I don't like feel like you can say that with any sort of certainty at this point, because the ego still control like what's happening here because they still have the player and I don't know.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: like I just don't see how he taking less and I don't know that the Patriots are gonna pay what they would see as a suitable rate for him.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: And the whole revisit after June one thing, like I, you know,
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Again, like ships can have sailed by then.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, as a Patriot, it's wind up with Omar Cooper and the draft say, I don't know, throwing him out there, right?
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: Then, you know, do they really need to be trading for AJ Brown?
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: And now you're talking about trading a 27-pack, which
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's supposed to be a really good draft.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: So do you want to get that?
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like that.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's just the dynamics of a change completely are the Eagles, okay, with making it trade where it's for picks and those guys aren't going to be in the roster this year.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're all those sorts of questions that are very different when you get to June than they are right now.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is where the Eagles need to be careful too, right?
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: Because once that clock starts, I would say and you can tell me if I'm not being fair, I think that there's six wide receivers that could go in the first round of the NFL draft.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: And think about that.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think you're probably right though.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're not quite there yet.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: We have Carnal State.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: We see Tyson.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: Mackay lemon.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Mark Cooper.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Jordan Tyson, Denzel Boston, Austin, and Casey conception may maybe he sneaks into the first round.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_02]: The exception.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, conception.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'm still getting in there.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_02]: And here's the thing.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_02]: I, I, we just learned Travis.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_02]: H. Yeah, who's uh, we just learned his.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to, I'm going to, you know what I'm going to do is I'm going to really like one of these days.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_02]: Um, just in like the middle of like season eight if we're blessed to make it that far of the MMQB podcast, I'm going to be like Albert actually my last name is or like aware, you know, or like, you know, and it's just really been pissing me off that you haven't been.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_02]: pronouncing it correctly.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: So beyond this, okay, I think we kind of know where the AJ Brown thing is headed, it's just how does the dance pan out before the draft.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: Some other interesting names here that we have, I mean, Taylor Decker is still available.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_02]: Stefan Dix, Joey Bosa, Joe Betonio, Dibo Samuel, Cam Robinson, David and Joku, Wyatt Teller,
- 49:42[SPEAKER_02]: cam Jordan.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_02]: Those are to me and my personal favorite and maybe he ends up going to the Giants.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how the Giants have ensigned Daniel Fulele yet.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_02]: I love that guy.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: He's 69, 400 pounds.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can't use that.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like we don't need that guy anywhere.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, I call it anyway.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_01]: So these are the guys that are an interesting category where they can wait, right?
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: Because now the dust is settled.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think for a lot of the second contract guys, it's like you don't want to be standing there when the music stops with these guys.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost all right.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, let's see what happens and then all assess where every team is.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: And some of these guys, I mean, I'm not saying they wanted to miss.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: The offseason program and, you know, chill and Texas or California or Florida or whatever, but maybe they do, you know, and maybe they don't want to sign until July, you know, in some cases, that can be tactical to where you're waiting for an injury somewhere, same as we talked about with cousins, where somebody gets desperate and pays you a little bit more.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: now those cases are more likely right right if you're talking about positions where you do see training camp and right catastrophic training camp injuries like somebody loses their left tackle like Taylor Decker is a pretty enticing option right somebody loses a past Russia both a clowning Jordan so like all these guys have to weigh all that too you know and so
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, who are you intrigued by on the list?
- 51:16[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm intrigued by different people for different reasons, and I'll say this.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: I, in joke who is intriguing for me, for whatever it's worth.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think in joke who's intriguing, I want the bosses to play together.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_02]: Is that possible?
- 51:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so you know, I had this in my column.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_01]: You, they've only played together once before.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_01]: And it was Nick Bosa made the varsity as a freshman.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, which is like, you got to be really freaking good to make the varsity as a freshman at that school.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like that school.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: At one point, that school had in its backfield in the same class, it was James White and Geobernard.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_01]: We're there too.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty good.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I'd hate to be the third string guy.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so I mean, like so, so Nick was a freshman made the varsity.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_01]: And Joey was a senior on the team, but that would be that would be a good one.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like Clownie is like that.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: The, like, what we're talking about or talking about the guy that waits and kind of surveys the market and winds up landing somewhere where there's a need that pops up and made or junior July.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Cam Jordan to me is like the Mike Evans, like will he sign somewhere else, you know, right, which, you know, I, I deals like he's serious about the idea of doing that.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Cam Jordan's been there, I think he and so yeah, he he's been the league three years longer than Evans too.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: So he's been, I think he's been a same for 15 years now.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: So well, year 16, be somewhere else and in joke who's kind of interesting just because I, you know, you wonder, is there a little more meat on the bone with him given what he's had to,
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: be a part of a quarterback, you know, like over the last few years.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, is there a little bit more with him there that you're able to leverage out because, you know, he was in a pretty tough spot, you know, as far as he was throwing, he's throwing the ball at all.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_02]: I was amazed, and this is another one where, I mean, maybe if you're an offensive lineman, you know, I remember, uh,
- 53:30[SPEAKER_02]: Chris Sneak was a perfect example like a guy who I covered for a long time and like after the season when his contract would be up There'd always be this like space and time where it's like, okay, you start to lose weight You start feeling your body feels a little bit better.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're like doing really want to sign myself up for and
- 53:51[SPEAKER_02]: Sounds awesome to me, but Chris and he was explaining to me once not so awesome three dinners every night like do you really want to be doing that to your body this deep into your 30s?
- 54:00[SPEAKER_02]: But that's why like guys like Joel Betonio and why it tellers so you have to share something that's happening when you do the double dinner thing.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: I, no, this is just like part of who I am, you know, I'm meal prepped by the way on Sunday I made three dinners for the week and then you put them in top of where's and it's impossible not to have a double dinner if you're excited about all the stuff that you meal prepped, right?
- 54:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like I made tacos, I made chili and I made, um,
- 54:26[SPEAKER_02]: Teriyaki chicken and so like you know some nights where you're like, I might just throw some of the taco stuff into the chicken You know, you know, we we need to get into my little.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Emily was Emily was upset with me Because I kept some of the leftovers.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_01]: We had a hello fresh that I made and it was a it was a good pasta thing
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: that I really it's one of them I really like and so you know I kept it and she's like you're never gonna eat that and I'm like watch me and so like she made she made white chili yesterday which is really good or tortillas soup white chili this like whatever was was really good and I had the I had like a pea I had some of the pasta as a side oh there you go side look at you how about um but yeah I mean if we're like
- 55:12[SPEAKER_02]: Right, but it just doesn't intrigue me.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like to me, like Joe Bautonium Wyatt Teller could fix a problem.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like a real problem.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_02]: You can sign them and they are just...
- 55:26[SPEAKER_02]: They're great.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 55:28[SPEAKER_02]: Or good enough that you don't even notice that they're there, right?
- 55:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's great, Joey Boses interesting to me, but only if he plays with Nick.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that maybe you get a little bit of extra juice at him at the end of his career if you put the two of them together.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_02]: The rest of this list, Albert, I know you said in Joku, I mean, if he's not in a team's immediate plans,
- 55:54[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you know, and he's entering his age 30 season, do you think that there's, where is this just like kind of a nice, you know, he's not one of those guys that you could plug in is like a great number two right he kind of has to be a number one somewhere and I don't know, it seems like those dance cards are filling up a little bit too, you know, yeah, or I mean like if you're.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I mean, New England loses hope or, you know, like, so, like, do you use Hunter Henry is now the move guy and then Joker is the online guy, like, because they and Joker was with frable.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_01]: in Cleveland for a year, you know.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_01]: Something like that might make sense.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's the amazing thing to me about like where the Patriots are.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's like freaking variable has like connections to all these guys.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: The Cleveland guys he was with, he was with Clowny at the beginning of his career.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: Bosa, he was actually Joey Bosa's D-Line coach is a freshman at Ohio State like the connections every guy in this list.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_02]: And in joke you too, like let's just be real.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not just saying this to be a hater, but
- 56:55[SPEAKER_02]: probably had one of his worst seasons, but a lot of people had one of their worst seasons and Cleveland last year, and in the blockings not there, right?
- 57:02[SPEAKER_02]: And if, you know, is that something that ends up making a little bit less desirable in this list?
- 57:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, and I don't know.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I think I'm a better blocker.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like I would say almost, I don't know.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it'd be interesting to see with certain teams like, you know, he's like a fringy and lying guy, but I do think you could use him in line like, does he, where does he fit in in that equation with certain tight ends across the league?
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if he were to go to Philly, like, who then would be the in line guy more often and who would be the move guy, him or God or, you know?
- 57:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, you're right.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think that, I think that's a big part of it.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_02]: But we'll see Albert, I mean, you know, I'm looking forward to just a little like, now the frenzy is died down.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_02]: Now it's time for us to rediscover some life passions.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: I know you're a big painter, watercolors, can see them all behind you.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, that's all my work.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: You and I are working on draft stuff.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to start getting to that.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_02]: Probably not this week, but next week we'll start diving into some of the draft episodes.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_02]: I know Albert has a banger of a draft story coming out soon.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_02]: I just got back from a trip to California to talk to a surefire top 10 pick and so we're going to have and in a guy that I think is probably going to Depending on where he goes is is really going to alter kind of the shape of the top 10 of the draft and so it'll be fun to talk about that So we got all that coming up.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you guys so much for always sticking with us all the feedback we get honestly like it's like
- 58:38[SPEAKER_02]: the messages I get on Twitter, the emails that I get, it really is just like, I feel like I'm like norm from cheers, like I'm just seeing my old friends and they just everyone has something fun and an interesting to say so.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, but yeah, keep them coming and if I sound a little distracted, it might be because I'm in charge of some things today.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_01]: The little show came up, some maybe I
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe my son might have stepped into something at school and he may have needed to do pair of shoes.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_01]: Which distracted me a little bit, but I think we kept it on the rails, okay?
- 59:15[SPEAKER_01]: I give a tag of the game.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_01]: I give us like a B for today's show.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: The dad grind never stops and that's because of you guys.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_02]: So thank you guys very much.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see you later this week.
- 59:41[UNKNOWN]: You
