- 0:17Speaker 1: This is John Carroll Lynch and you are listening to
- 0:19Speaker 1: Movie Meltdown.
- 0:24Speaker 2: What's up? Welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
- 0:26Speaker 3: I'm Misty.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'm Jay. And we're coming to you live via digital
- 0:30Speaker 2: recording from the outskirts of Lexington. Home of the Lexington
- 0:34Speaker 2: Comic and Toy Convention.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Woo!
- 0:37Speaker 2: At a different time of year. We are back for
- 0:39Speaker 2: the second time. They have branched out into the fall category.
- 0:43Speaker 3: That's why the sun's all in weird places.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Yeah, seasonal differences and shifting planets and whatnot. It's all craziness.
- 0:51Speaker 2: But yeah, we are back for the fall version.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yes, the first time.
- 0:56Speaker 2: They're testing out the waters. Seemed like it went pretty well. Mm-hmm.
- 1:01Speaker 2: We had reports that it's been pretty busy this weekend,
- 1:03Speaker 2: so that is good. Saw lots of costume people.
- 1:07Speaker 3: It was a lot. That's how we knew that this
- 1:08Speaker 3: was the correct weekend.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. We were driving up, and we're like,
- 1:12Speaker 2: are we sure we're... Nope, wait, there they are. All right.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Usually when we're coming up here for this, there is
- 1:18Speaker 3: a shit ton of traffic around the convention area, the
- 1:23Speaker 3: place where it is taking place. There's usually traffic out
- 1:26Speaker 3: the wazoo, and it was like, we're kind of wondering,
- 1:28Speaker 3: I'm like, what's going on? And then we're like, oh, Yep,
- 1:31Speaker 3: there they are. We're good.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Waiting at the crosswalk. There they were in their crazy
- 1:35Speaker 2: outfits with their capes and.
- 1:36Speaker 3: A fucking gambit, like.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And then someone's gonna stop a crime. Some dude, Jay says,
- 1:43Speaker 2: dressed as Gambit.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:45Speaker 2: He was kind of Gambit-esque.
- 1:47Speaker 3: But then he forgot something and he had to make
- 1:49Speaker 3: the walk of shame back from the way he just sprinted.
- 1:51Speaker 2: But he was sprinting.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Dude, he was fucking trucking.
- 1:53Speaker 2: He was heading to go stop a crime and throw
- 1:55Speaker 2: some cards at him or something. And then all of
- 1:57Speaker 2: a sudden he just got.
- 1:58Speaker 3: To the other side. Maybe he forgot his cards.
- 2:00Speaker 1: That's it.
- 2:01Speaker 2: He got there and all he had was a stick.
- 2:03Speaker 2: He was like, well, I can't throw magical cards without
- 2:06Speaker 2: my magical cards.
- 2:07Speaker 3: That's for poking dead bodies.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what you get a stick for. So he
- 2:12Speaker 2: had to stop and wait at the crosswalk to go
- 2:14Speaker 2: back again.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Lame.
- 2:17Speaker 3: He did not go back nearly as epically as he
- 2:21Speaker 3: went the first time.
- 2:23Speaker 2: There was like a fanfare when he ran the first time.
- 2:25Speaker 2: He was just trucking it across the street in superhero mode.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I was like, holy shit, what's going on?
- 2:31Speaker 2: He's about to go slam evil. He's going to go
- 2:33Speaker 2: put the knockout on this dude and take down bad guys.
- 2:38Speaker 3: You could see the disappointment as he realized he forgot something.
- 2:42Speaker 2: My keys.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Probably. Probably. I don't know. The keys, the cards, anything.
- 2:47Speaker 1: His pass.
- 2:48Speaker 3: That could have been it. I don't know. You could
- 2:50Speaker 3: just see the superhero crumbled within him.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Stupid real life things. Like I didn't bring my fanny
- 2:57Speaker 2: pack loaded up with my stuff.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Don't forget the fanny pack.
- 3:01Speaker 2: That's an important piece.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Of your costume. That's where he puts the cards.
- 3:06Speaker 2: That's how Gambit does it on the shows.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Does he?
- 3:09Speaker 2: I don't know. I didn't watch 97. Me neither. I've
- 3:12Speaker 2: heard really good things, though. People like that. that last
- 3:14Speaker 2: animated series that came out I'll get around to it
- 3:17Speaker 2: eventually maybe no maybe but yeah so many I've realized
- 3:24Speaker 2: certainly many times over the years but this time in
- 3:27Speaker 2: particular today I was like so many girls that are
- 3:29Speaker 2: half animals so many ears and tails on girls that
- 3:33Speaker 2: I don't even I don't even know what they're tied
- 3:36Speaker 2: to just some sort of crazy anime half fox girl
- 3:40Speaker 2: or half monkey or whatever they are I don't.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Know Yeah, I didn't notice as many. I only know
- 3:46Speaker 3: that one dog person that we thought might have been McGruff.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I said it was McGruff. I really don't think she
- 3:51Speaker 2: was McGruff and probably would have been insulted if I
- 3:53Speaker 2: asked if she was McGruff. And also not known who
- 3:55Speaker 2: McGruff was because she was probably like 20.
- 3:58Speaker 3: If that. Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 2: We're losing the McGruff years. References of dying right and
- 4:06Speaker 2: left these days.
- 4:06Speaker 3: You should call McGruff the crime dog to solve those.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Who killed the old timey references?
- 4:16Speaker 3: Time.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Time. Time has killed them. As we were standing in
- 4:20Speaker 2: front of people earlier. Because we also, as usual, go
- 4:23Speaker 2: look for movies and books and random things after we're
- 4:26Speaker 2: done at the convention. So I'm standing in the building
- 4:28Speaker 2: in the corner over there. And there's a girl who's
- 4:32Speaker 2: knelt down looking at movies. And the other one's just
- 4:34Speaker 2: sort of standing there. And she goes, have you seen
- 4:37Speaker 2: Back to the Future? And the other immediately, without missing
- 4:39Speaker 2: a beat, goes, no.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:42Speaker 2: How do you live in this country and have not
- 4:44Speaker 2: seen back to the future? Come on now, get with
- 4:46Speaker 2: the program. I know she's still 20, but who cares?
- 4:49Speaker 2: Get with the program.
- 4:50Speaker 3: It's like when I went with the toy store and
- 4:52Speaker 3: I was buying the, uh, punk ahead action figure. And
- 4:56Speaker 3: the guy was like, so is this movie worth checking out?
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm like, uh, it's one of the, it's a great movie,
- 5:01Speaker 3: but don't go into it expecting like modern day, like
- 5:03Speaker 3: effects and everything, you know, enjoy it.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Like Stan Winston effects. I remember.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Yeah. You gotta expect it to be like, You're not
- 5:13Speaker 3: going to have, you know, CG, a lot of CG
- 5:15Speaker 3: and a lot of, you know, that's what I'm saying.
- 5:18Speaker 3: You're going to have more practical things. It's going to
- 5:20Speaker 3: be like, it's fucking better.
- 5:22Speaker 2: It's going to look good.
- 5:24Speaker 3: He's like, well, I don't know. That's the problem I
- 5:25Speaker 3: had with watching like the first Evil Dead movies. I'm like, well, fuck.
- 5:29Speaker 2: And you smacked him.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I'm like, just give me my pumpkin head.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Just ring me up, bitch.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Give me my pumpkin head and let me go because
- 5:35Speaker 3: you obviously don't know. I don't know. You could be
- 5:37Speaker 3: a nice guy, but still. The first, Evil Dead, is
- 5:40Speaker 3: fucking classic. And I guess because I watched it in
- 5:42Speaker 3: the middle of the woods by myself, I guess it
- 5:45Speaker 3: scared the bejesus out of me. I was terrified.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I remember renting it that first time and just kind
- 5:51Speaker 2: of knowing not even that much about it. Just sort
- 5:55Speaker 2: of knowing it by reputation. And I think 2 was
- 5:57Speaker 2: already out because I think I also knew the creepy
- 6:00Speaker 2: eyeballs staring at you in the skull box art on 2.
- 6:02Speaker 2: So I think I just knew them as the first
- 6:04Speaker 2: 2 by reputation of always being at the video store
- 6:07Speaker 2: and me being a sucker for old VHS box art,
- 6:11Speaker 2: both of which are classic and awesome VHS box art.
- 6:13Speaker 2: So I was just like, all right, I need to
- 6:15Speaker 2: watch these. That first one, geez, it's just, it's weird
- 6:19Speaker 2: and disturbing, especially having not seen anything like that. I mean,
- 6:23Speaker 2: now it's its own franchise and we've seen a bunch
- 6:25Speaker 2: of movies knock that off before, but like that first
- 6:27Speaker 2: time things are all banging around the cabin and stuff. It's,
- 6:30Speaker 2: it's pretty creepy.
- 6:32Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 6:35Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I got Pumpkinhead. That was the extent of my excitement
- 6:39Speaker 3: for me.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I mean, at least he knew it was a character
- 6:42Speaker 2: from a movie.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Actually, he reached for the wrong one first. I want
- 6:44Speaker 3: Pumpkinhead and he went to reach for one on the
- 6:46Speaker 3: shelf below. I'm like, oh, that is not Pumpkinhead.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Okay, so he did smack him, right?
- 6:51Speaker 3: I was just like, dude, come on now.
- 6:53Speaker 2: What was he reaching for?
- 6:55Speaker 3: Not Pumpkinhead.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I was like, if he was like way off. It
- 7:00Speaker 2: was like some creature that had big teeth.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, no. It looked like the thing that lived in
- 7:05Speaker 3: the crate from like a The Tales from the Dark.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Creepshow?
- 7:11Speaker 3: Maybe Creepshow, but it had long legs, so I don't
- 7:14Speaker 3: know that that was it.
- 7:15Speaker 2: That's also creepy, but still not Pumpkinhead.
- 7:17Speaker 3: It was very much not Pumpkinhead. I'm like, oh, no,
- 7:19Speaker 3: that's not Pumpkinhead.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I do not think so. Yeah. It's a generational thing sometimes.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I don't like to pin too much on that, because
- 7:30Speaker 2: I feel like that's not an excuse. Because I know
- 7:33Speaker 2: somebody that I've come in contact with lately, and they're
- 7:37Speaker 2: massively younger and they constantly are trying to pin things
- 7:41Speaker 2: on generations like she'll be talking and she'll have like
- 7:45Speaker 2: a whole big story going she'll be like well your
- 7:48Speaker 2: generation like she'll go into this generalization i'm like number
- 7:52Speaker 2: one you don't know that second of all i feel
- 7:54Speaker 2: like kind of half of what you're saying is just
- 7:57Speaker 2: generalized nonsense it's not even like i think everybody's so
- 8:00Speaker 2: case by case basis.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Especially like an example of what you're talking about even not.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Like she always uses that for like so many things
- 8:08Speaker 2: like every day I will hear her reference different people
- 8:11Speaker 2: of different generations and she'll be like well you always
- 8:14Speaker 2: do this and I don't even know what she's talking
- 8:16Speaker 2: about half the time I just know she constantly generalizes
- 8:20Speaker 2: but I'm like especially in references like movie references now
- 8:23Speaker 2: that's the weird thing going into like younger generations kids
- 8:26Speaker 2: because like they have access to everything so they may
- 8:29Speaker 2: have seen Back to the Future 20 times you don't
- 8:31Speaker 2: know like just because it's old doesn't mean old I'm
- 8:34Speaker 2: using quotes old to them doesn't mean they haven't seen
- 8:37Speaker 2: it because now they have access to it and they
- 8:40Speaker 2: certainly have the means to look up everything they want
- 8:43Speaker 2: about any movie ever and know whatever they want so
- 8:46Speaker 2: I think that's part of what's changing too is like
- 8:48Speaker 2: kids are like learning about stuff way more than we
- 8:51Speaker 2: did because we didn't have access to anything I was
- 8:54Speaker 2: like Buying books. I know. I don't even know how
- 8:57Speaker 2: to read. But I was getting reference books of weird
- 8:59Speaker 2: movies I'd never heard of before because that was the
- 9:02Speaker 2: only way to find out about stuff like that. Versus now,
- 9:05Speaker 2: kids can dive into anything and half the time can
- 9:08Speaker 2: just click a button and watch it immediately. So it's
- 9:12Speaker 2: very different these days. So I don't sell them short.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I don't expect that they've seen old stuff that I like.
- 9:17Speaker 2: But I'm like, no, no, you can do your homework.
- 9:20Speaker 2: You can get caught up. Equally as much as I'm
- 9:23Speaker 2: supposed to be watching new stuff, and I don't always.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know the last new thing I saw.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I still see new movies, but I'm certainly not as
- 9:31Speaker 2: caught up as I'm sure some kid that's watching all
- 9:34Speaker 2: the new stuff as it comes out. But I at
- 9:36Speaker 2: least try to keep up with some of the new things.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I don't. I'm the old person. It's like, what do
- 9:42Speaker 3: you mean they made another movie in general?
- 9:45Speaker 2: Get off my lawn. I'm playing with pumpkin head out here.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Dude, seriously.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm just going back and buying old movies.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I do that most of the time.
- 9:53Speaker 1: On DVD.
- 9:53Speaker 2: As you've seen today. i bought it today and yesterday
- 9:56Speaker 2: i bought old movies almost exclusively so this is all
- 10:00Speaker 2: i've done.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah and it's like nothing in particular it's just certain
- 10:05Speaker 1: movies i'm like yeah you know i want that movie you.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Know i mean building up your man movie collection.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Just movies in general i mean there's movies that they're
- 10:15Speaker 1: movies that i can like Veg out to and not
- 10:18Speaker 1: have to really get into Lethal Weapon 1, 2, and 3.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Classics.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Classics. Escape from New York. Escape from L.A. Stuff like that.
- 10:29Speaker 2: That's one of the ones I watched yesterday.
- 10:30Speaker 1: It's just silliness I can put on in the background.
- 10:32Speaker 2: It's one of those I forget. I've seen Escape from
- 10:37Speaker 2: New York so many times. But having just rewatched it,
- 10:40Speaker 2: it had been a long time since I watched it.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I forget how like once he's in there, like the
- 10:45Speaker 2: setting up the thing is so like grand scheme of like, whoa,
- 10:50Speaker 2: look at this like crazy police state that they live in.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And then like the freaking president's flying over and there's
- 10:56Speaker 2: terrorists and like all of that kicks in. And then
- 10:59Speaker 2: like the plan of like how he can get in
- 11:00Speaker 2: there from that point on, it's so low stakes. Like,
- 11:04Speaker 2: it's just like, he just kind of wanders around and
- 11:05Speaker 2: looks in some buildings and see some punks hanging out. Like,
- 11:09Speaker 2: but like, the most grand thing that happens, I guess,
- 11:13Speaker 2: is they throw him in that like wrestling ring and
- 11:16Speaker 2: he like gets in the fight with the big dude.
- 11:18Speaker 2: And like, that's pretty much the end of the movie.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Like I always kind of think it's a bigger, more,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you know, high stakes kind of a thing once he's
- 11:25Speaker 2: in there, but the rest of it's pretty low stakes.
- 11:27Speaker 2: It's just him trying to not die and make it
- 11:29Speaker 2: back with the president.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 2: But it's a lot of just wandering around New York
- 11:34Speaker 2: in the dark.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Are we going to talk about the convention? Like, What
- 11:38Speaker 3: we saw at the convention other than people in costumes?
- 11:40Speaker 2: Most definitely.
- 11:42Speaker 3: We saw Jennifer Stone.
- 11:44Speaker 2: The coolest person on earth.
- 11:46Speaker 3: She was gorgeous.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Always.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I'm sure she still is. Always. It's not like it
- 11:49Speaker 3: changed within the past five hours or anything.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Every day.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Unless she's fallen off a rock by then.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I see her posts on Instagram every day. Every time
- 11:56Speaker 2: she's on there.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Gorgeous.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Oh, duh. But also, super cool. As I was telling you,
- 12:00Speaker 2: I was like, not only is she a super awesome actress,
- 12:03Speaker 2: she's also a nurse. And not only like sitting back
- 12:07Speaker 2: on the sidelines working on a specialty area that she
- 12:09Speaker 2: hardly has to see people. She's an ER nurse. So
- 12:13Speaker 2: most of her days is just covered in grossness. And
- 12:16Speaker 2: sometimes she will go in detail in them when she
- 12:17Speaker 2: posts stuff. No thanks. And yeah, grossness, dealing with real people.
- 12:22Speaker 2: That's the worst part. She's the superhero right there dealing
- 12:25Speaker 2: with people all day long. But then on top of that,
- 12:28Speaker 2: she's like super sporty. And she's constantly posting stuff where
- 12:31Speaker 2: she's hanging off the side of a mountain. And she's
- 12:33Speaker 2: going like rock climbing. And like doing death divine stuff.
- 12:36Speaker 2: And she's just a badass. She's an all around badass.
- 12:40Speaker 3: And she's gorgeous.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Also that.
- 12:43Speaker 3: For anybody who doesn't know. She was on Wizard of
- 12:45Speaker 3: Waverly Place. With the also gorgeous and fantastic Selena Gomez.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And is currently back on there. They just brought it
- 12:53Speaker 2: back around. And they're wrapping up the reboot series. And
- 12:56Speaker 2: she came back for the last season. Awesome.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I haven't seen any of the new ones. I don't
- 12:59Speaker 3: even know that I've finished the last ones. But the
- 13:02Speaker 3: show was amazing.
- 13:03Speaker 2: It is pretty damn good. As I said earlier, for
- 13:06Speaker 2: what is supposed to be a, I'm using quotes, kids show,
- 13:08Speaker 2: it is really well written and some pretty solid comedy,
- 13:12Speaker 2: I think, too.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Luckily, we did not see Chris Kattan.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to say, I think that was
- 13:17Speaker 2: the balancing of the scales. Like, we were super excited
- 13:20Speaker 2: to see Jennifer Stone, wanted to avoid at all costs
- 13:23Speaker 2: Chris Kattan.
- 13:25Speaker 3: I didn't even know he was going to be there until, like, today.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I've seen the posts, and I'm just like, hmm. I
- 13:30Speaker 2: was creeped out with him back on SNL days. It's
- 13:32Speaker 2: not gotten any less creepy these days. Just not.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I don't know what he does these days.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I think most of them still end up doing stand-up
- 13:40Speaker 2: tour kind of stuff. So a lot of them just
- 13:42Speaker 2: get exclusive nights at specific stand-up places and tour around
- 13:46Speaker 2: doing that. It seems like a lot of the old
- 13:48Speaker 2: SNL cast I see doing that.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Has he done anything extra creepy or just general Chris
- 13:51Speaker 3: Kattan creepy?
- 13:52Speaker 2: I mean, maybe. If you guys want to dig into it,
- 13:54Speaker 2: I'm not going to. So I'll just assume I think
- 13:56Speaker 2: he's generally creepy and leave it at that.
- 14:00Speaker 3: What if he's out saving puppies or something? Maybe that's
- 14:03Speaker 3: why we don't see him that often anymore.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Virtual pat on the back. I don't want to get
- 14:08Speaker 2: that close to you. A big thumbs up. Thanks for
- 14:10Speaker 2: saving puppies. I'll give you one of those if that's
- 14:13Speaker 2: the case. If not, I'll just assume you're weird.
- 14:15Speaker 3: I didn't say he wasn't eating the puppies afterwards.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Allegedly.
- 14:23Speaker 2: We don't know these things.
- 14:24Speaker 3: He would never.
- 14:27Speaker 2: So luckily he wasn't at the table. We didn't have
- 14:29Speaker 2: to see him.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Didn't get to see Mark Summer though. Mark Summers?
- 14:33Speaker 2: I thought he was off washing his hands somewhere.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Was he?
- 14:36Speaker 2: 60 or 80 times.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Does he wash his hands a lot?
- 14:40Speaker 2: He's like super OCD.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 14:42Speaker 2: That was like the weird thing that came out after
- 14:44Speaker 2: his like double dare days. Like of all people to
- 14:48Speaker 2: have a weird super obsessive compulsive cleanliness kind of a thing.
- 14:53Speaker 2: It was the guy who was surrounded by slime and
- 14:55Speaker 2: slop and grossness and Kids shoving their hands up into
- 14:59Speaker 2: a giant plastic nose.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I loved that show when I was a kid.
- 15:03Speaker 2: It was pretty entertaining, I gotta say.
- 15:05Speaker 3: It was. It was great. Back when TV was fun.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Now it's just kind of, eh.
- 15:11Speaker 2: It's on. I watch things in the background sometimes. Occasionally
- 15:16Speaker 2: there's stuff I actually like, but it's mostly just on.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Are we going to talk about stuff we've watched recently?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Have you seen things?
- 15:28Speaker 3: No.
- 15:28Speaker 2: That's usually the case. That's why I was surprised. I
- 15:32Speaker 2: was like, you've watched a thing? Because usually you're like,
- 15:34Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know how to watch the game.
- 15:35Speaker 1: You went back and watched all of them.
- 15:37Speaker 3: I've been currently in the re-watching of American Horror Story.
- 15:41Speaker 2: All right. Did you start from the beginning?
- 15:44Speaker 3: I did. I started at the beginning. I've re-watched seasons
- 15:47Speaker 3: that I was not excited about re-watching. I'm getting ready
- 15:50Speaker 3: to watch one that I didn't want to watch it
- 15:54Speaker 3: the first time, so I didn't. So this will be
- 15:55Speaker 3: my first time watching it and I've not been looking
- 15:58Speaker 3: forward to it.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Which one is this?
- 16:02Speaker 3: Cult?
- 16:04Speaker 2: I pretty much don't know the difference. I know some
- 16:06Speaker 2: of them brought in new actors that I heard about
- 16:09Speaker 2: were part of it along the way. But other than that,
- 16:11Speaker 2: I don't know. I just originally didn't have the channel
- 16:14Speaker 2: it was on and then haven't gone back to dig
- 16:15Speaker 2: into it since then.
- 16:16Speaker 3: I mean, I've heard good things. My friend Mel loves it.
- 16:20Speaker 3: And then the thing that's got me... Because I've told... Apparently,
- 16:24Speaker 3: I'm Instagram friends with somebody who'd worked on it. Like,
- 16:27Speaker 3: she did, like, the... I don't know the extent of
- 16:29Speaker 3: what all she did on that one. She did, like,
- 16:31Speaker 3: all the costume work and a lot of the character development, maybe.
- 16:35Speaker 2: That's a lot to deal with.
- 16:37Speaker 3: And so she's like, you have to watch it. Because
- 16:39Speaker 3: when I said that I was going to, you know,
- 16:41Speaker 3: re-watch the series, you know, I might skip some, you know,
- 16:45Speaker 3: I might skip some seasons. She's like, you better not
- 16:47Speaker 3: be skipping any of my seasons.
- 16:48Speaker 2: I did all of that work, and you're going to
- 16:50Speaker 2: watch it.
- 16:51Speaker 3: So... I just finished with Roanoke last night. So that
- 16:55Speaker 3: means that cult is, uh, it's queued up and I'm
- 16:58Speaker 3: not dick. Cause the first time around, I watched like
- 17:02Speaker 3: maybe the first 20 minutes of it. And it was
- 17:04Speaker 3: just Sarah Paulson screaming and crying about the election. And
- 17:07Speaker 3: I was just like, Oh my God, this is stressing
- 17:09Speaker 3: me out.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I mean, she's a really good actress.
- 17:12Speaker 1: She's amazing.
- 17:13Speaker 2: They would give her. Yeah. Better stuff. She's great.
- 17:15Speaker 3: A lot. She's been in like every season thus far.
- 17:19Speaker 3: It's not till later that she like skips out on
- 17:21Speaker 3: a couple of seasons. I think.
- 17:22Speaker 2: She's got other stuff to do.
- 17:24Speaker 3: I guess. So far, I have enjoyed every season that
- 17:31Speaker 3: I have rewatched more this time around than the original
- 17:35Speaker 3: time around.
- 17:36Speaker 2: That's good.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Yeah. It's just hard to go into cult.
- 17:44Speaker 2: What's your favorites of the original season?
- 17:47Speaker 3: I think Asylum is amazing. And I think, I mean,
- 17:52Speaker 3: Coven obviously is my favorite because it's got Emma Roberts
- 17:54Speaker 3: in it, which I mean, she's in more seasons later.
- 17:57Speaker 3: She's also in the Delicate Condition or whatever, which is
- 18:03Speaker 3: not one of my favorite seasons, despite the fact that
- 18:05Speaker 3: it has her in it, because it has one of
- 18:06Speaker 3: the other things that creep me the fuck out and
- 18:08Speaker 3: I'm uncomfortable with, which is people being pregnant.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I keep telling people to stop having babies, but
- 18:15Speaker 2: they never listen to me.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I just, I can't, like, the whole opening sequence, you see, like,
- 18:21Speaker 3: belly stuff moving, and I'm just like, oh my god, gross.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Usually body horror doesn't bother me, but when it's pregnancy people,
- 18:29Speaker 3: I'm just like, oh my god, I can't do it.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Yeah, babies are a weird thing, let me tell you.
- 18:36Speaker 3: They're like fucking parasites.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I mean, literally, for nine months.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I know.
- 18:43Speaker 3: His boyfriend's not watched any of it, I don't think.
- 18:46Speaker 3: He's been there for a couple episodes of a couple seasons.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I'm not watching. I'm on my phone. I got my
- 18:51Speaker 1: headphones in.
- 18:52Speaker 3: But sometimes you did use it as an excuse to
- 18:54Speaker 3: not go to bed on time. You would come back
- 18:56Speaker 3: in there and kind of watch the screen. I'm like,
- 18:57Speaker 3: what are you doing? You were not watching. You were
- 18:59Speaker 3: just trying to delay going to bed.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't want to go to bed.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:03Speaker 2: You can't make me.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Being an adult sucks.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I'm telling you. I try not to do as much
- 19:09Speaker 2: of it as possible.
- 19:09Speaker 1: That's stupid. Well, I got to get up at like
- 19:12Speaker 1: 3 in the morning, so.
- 19:14Speaker 2: That's awful.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it is.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I've done that. It's not good.
- 19:17Speaker 1: But getting off at noon is pretty cool.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Yeah. It's not good. I've played it. I don't like
- 19:25Speaker 2: that schedule.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's funny. You know, I used to
- 19:29Speaker 1: work at a bakery.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And it was 3 to noon. And actually, it was
- 19:34Speaker 1: like 3 to 1. And then I was like, I'm
- 19:37Speaker 1: going to go get a real job with a real schedule.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:41Speaker 1: And it was like 7 to something.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 19:47Speaker 3: 7 to 4?
- 19:47Speaker 1: 30? or something like that.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I did one of those 7 ones yeah and I was.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Like oh cool and then I switched jobs and went
- 19:58Speaker 1: to this job and it was back to 3 to
- 20:00Speaker 1: noon because it gets so hot in there which I
- 20:07Speaker 1: don't work in a bakery anymore because you know I
- 20:09Speaker 1: was like Working in a bakery sucks and it's hot.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I need to go find a better job. So I
- 20:13Speaker 1: became a welder.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Yeah, how'd that work out for you?
- 20:16Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it's hotter. It's hotter.
- 20:19Speaker 2: It's hotter anyway and then you're standing next to a
- 20:21Speaker 2: flame the whole time.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and then I'm getting burned and stuff and that's all,
- 20:24Speaker 1: you know. But yeah, now I still leave it noon now,
- 20:29Speaker 1: you know, which is better because it's not as hot
- 20:31Speaker 1: during the day.
- 20:33Speaker 2: But I eventually switched closer to a regular world schedule
- 20:36Speaker 2: and that part makes more sense. Like that part. I'm like, yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 2: I can see this. I still don't want to be
- 20:41Speaker 2: stuck at work. So every day I'm just like, Oh,
- 20:43Speaker 2: why do I have to go to work? This is stupid.
- 20:46Speaker 2: But getting up and going, you know, normal ish hours is,
- 20:51Speaker 2: is more functional as like trying to have a normal life.
- 20:54Speaker 2: But normal is very relative anyway, for the likes of me.
- 20:57Speaker 2: So none of it really makes any sense. So have
- 21:01Speaker 2: you been watching something other than what she's been watching?
- 21:04Speaker 1: Me?
- 21:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Uh, No.
- 21:09Speaker 2: No.
- 21:10Speaker 1: The only movie-related thing that I have is Thrashing's 40th anniversary.
- 21:15Speaker 1: It happened at the Skateboarding Hall of Fame last weekend.
- 21:22Speaker 1: And I got an invite to go, but we couldn't go.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Because your girlfriend's lame and won't get on a plane.
- 21:28Speaker 3: I know.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I know that.
- 21:33Speaker 3: You could have had the same amount of fun that
- 21:35Speaker 3: Floyd did.
- 21:35Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 21:37Speaker 3: How miserable he was.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Oh, you know what? Layovers don't bother me, though, you know,
- 21:41Speaker 1: because I'm not.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Me reacting to him.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, whatever. Anyways, but he brought me back an Eddie
- 21:52Speaker 1: Raddy board signed that was one of the daggers. He's
- 21:57Speaker 1: one of the daggers in the movie. So that was cool.
- 22:01Speaker 1: So other than that.
- 22:02Speaker 2: That's pretty awesome.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's pretty awesome. So, I got that, and he
- 22:05Speaker 1: brought me some shirts and stuff like that.
- 22:06Speaker 2: So that's cool. So, this was a specific theater, or
- 22:10Speaker 2: it just was somewhere that they.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Were showing it? No, no, they had it at the
- 22:13Speaker 1: Skateboarding Hall of Fame. Oh, well, that's pretty cool. So, yeah,
- 22:17Speaker 1: it's cool. No big deal. So, he brought me some
- 22:20Speaker 1: stuff for help watching the shop and taking care of
- 22:26Speaker 1: his animals and stuff like that.
- 22:28Speaker 2: It's a trade-off.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a trade-off, so it's no big deal. But
- 22:34Speaker 1: other than that, no, not really. Just collecting DVDs and
- 22:38Speaker 1: CDs because I'm eventually going to break away from Spotify
- 22:43Speaker 1: just because I'm tired of paying monthly subscription fees and
- 22:53Speaker 1: stuff like that and going to go back to my
- 22:56Speaker 1: MP3 player and stuff.
- 22:58Speaker 2: I mean, that's pretty much.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I don't want to pay for any of those. And
- 23:02Speaker 2: I think most of them still don't deliver very good
- 23:05Speaker 2: music options. No, they don't. So I don't bother with
- 23:09Speaker 2: any of it. I might put it on a certain,
- 23:11Speaker 2: usually a video service that also has music. And that
- 23:14Speaker 2: I don't pay for because they have a free version too.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And it's not as many ads as I expected. So
- 23:19Speaker 2: if I put it on anything, sometimes I'll put that
- 23:21Speaker 2: on at work. But for my normal life, I did that.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I've got a bajillion CDs from the olden days. most
- 23:29Speaker 2: of which I've just digitally transferred over anyway, and they're
- 23:33Speaker 2: all on my phone. So half the time, if I'm
- 23:35Speaker 2: going to listen to music, I just put it on
- 23:37Speaker 2: my phone and randomize it out of all the stuff
- 23:39Speaker 2: that's already there.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Well, I used to have that on my phone, uh,
- 23:43Speaker 1: but then I shoot a lot of video on my phone.
- 23:47Speaker 2: So awesome skateboarding videos in case you guys didn't know already.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah. I do a lot of skate video stuff, but, um,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I do a lot of editing and stuff on my phone.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I need to actually get a laptop and start doing
- 24:01Speaker 1: editing on my laptop instead of using my phone memory.
- 24:03Speaker 2: I would think it's a lot easier. I can't stand
- 24:05Speaker 2: doing stuff on my phone. But having done more editing
- 24:08Speaker 2: stuff lately on the computer, it's not bad if I'm
- 24:11Speaker 2: on the computer.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. Maybe I need to get back
- 24:13Speaker 1: to a computer because I haven't had a desktop or
- 24:16Speaker 1: a laptop in probably 10 years. And it feels like
- 24:20Speaker 1: I do everything on my phone now, like all my
- 24:23Speaker 1: editing and everything's done. on the phone.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I just don't like doing it that way. But there's
- 24:29Speaker 2: some good options on the computer, so yeah. I think
- 24:32Speaker 2: laptop would be fine. Well, I have watched some things.
- 24:37Speaker 2: There was one I was thinking you might... I was
- 24:40Speaker 2: wondering if you'd seen, if not, had even heard of.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I remember when it came out, but I just got
- 24:45Speaker 2: a chance to watch They Will Kill You. It just
- 24:49Speaker 2: came out earlier this year.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I remember hearing about that, but I have not seen it.
- 24:54Speaker 2: It's one of those, and I was sold initially because,
- 24:57Speaker 2: I mean, outside of the previously mentioned guest today, there's
- 25:01Speaker 2: few people cooler than Zazie Beetz. Like, Zazie Beetz is
- 25:04Speaker 2: so damn cool.
- 25:05Speaker 3: I have no idea what you're talking about.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Zazie Beetz.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Repeating it's not going to make more sense.
- 25:11Speaker 2: If you saw the second Deadpool, which I know you did,
- 25:13Speaker 2: she's Domino. Okay. So, she's super cool. But she's in
- 25:19Speaker 2: a lot of other stuff these days, but she's in
- 25:20Speaker 2: this one, and it's like a weird crazy like action
- 25:23Speaker 2: movie and I'm like alright I want to see this
- 25:25Speaker 2: it's a weird tone like once you get into it
- 25:28Speaker 2: it takes like about.
- 25:29Speaker 1: The first 20 minutes or.
- 25:31Speaker 2: So to be like alright I mean I think it
- 25:34Speaker 2: also gets less extreme like it seems like as soon
- 25:37Speaker 2: as the fighting type stuff starts it's just a weird
- 25:41Speaker 2: way that they're shooting and way that maybe they've edited
- 25:44Speaker 2: it like it just seems like choppy but maybe purposefully
- 25:47Speaker 2: done choppy I don't know it's very weird the way
- 25:49Speaker 2: that they like set up the action shots especially in
- 25:52Speaker 2: the beginning of the movie, which is you kind of
- 25:54Speaker 2: coming to terms with, wait, what am I watching? But
- 25:58Speaker 2: I was mostly sold as it continued on how weird
- 26:01Speaker 2: it is. Like it is just, she goes to this
- 26:04Speaker 2: building and like, it's supposed to be like a hotel.
- 26:07Speaker 1: More or less.
- 26:08Speaker 2: And they have a housekeeper ad that like, she's kind
- 26:11Speaker 2: of there for other purposes, but she's pretending to go
- 26:13Speaker 2: get this job and she gets in there and like
- 26:15Speaker 2: immediately it's just like, they're people just trying to kill her.
- 26:19Speaker 2: And then, um, as it goes on it gets into
- 26:23Speaker 2: weirder and weirder stuff and I'm just like you know
- 26:27Speaker 2: for a relatively mainstream movie this is pretty twisted so
- 26:30Speaker 2: yeah it's entertaining if you like a ton of action
- 26:34Speaker 2: but it's also relatively gory so yeah weird gory stuff
- 26:38Speaker 2: mixed in with action.
- 26:39Speaker 3: I do like my gore as long as it's not
- 26:42Speaker 3: pregnancy gore yeah I.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Don't think there's any baby action going on here so
- 26:46Speaker 2: yeah I think it's all just standard grossness and people
- 26:50Speaker 2: It may or may not die. There's that. Yeah, it's weird.
- 26:56Speaker 2: But yeah, it's entertaining and she kind of sells it.
- 26:58Speaker 2: So I was on board with it.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Other than that, I don't think we've watched anything else.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Have you watched anything else?
- 27:06Speaker 2: I did watch Dead Man's Wire, which is the end
- 27:09Speaker 2: of last year. Gus Van Zandt put it out. And
- 27:12Speaker 2: it's interesting because I think it's Indianapolis it happened in.
- 27:15Speaker 2: So it's actually based on a true story from like
- 27:17Speaker 2: the 70s. And they like shot half of it. I
- 27:21Speaker 2: think they actually shot a good amount of it in Louisville.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Subbing in for Indianapolis, oddly enough. Because there are times
- 27:28Speaker 2: when I'm like, I think that is downtown. I think that's...
- 27:30Speaker 2: So it's interesting that they bothered to come back to
- 27:34Speaker 2: his hometown to shoot something that was also taking place
- 27:37Speaker 2: relatively close to this area anyway. But.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Who was in that one?
- 27:41Speaker 2: This one is... Let me see. Everyone's favorite Bill Skarsgård. Yeah.
- 27:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:48Speaker 2: And then, I don't know the other guy. I don't
- 27:53Speaker 2: even know how to pronounce that. Dacre? It's D-A-C-R-E?
- 27:57Speaker 3: Seems like I should know that, because he's from Stranger Things,
- 28:03Speaker 3: isn't he? He is. Is it Dacre Montgomery? Yeah. Because
- 28:08Speaker 3: he was Billy.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the brother. I don't.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Know if it's Dacre, like acre with a D. I
- 28:15Speaker 3: don't know.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I'm not sure he's good in it. They're both really
- 28:18Speaker 2: good in it. Like it's, it is a, he's good
- 28:20Speaker 2: as Billy.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Billy's just a jacket.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I mean, that's the thing. Like that's how, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 2: he's a hell of an actor. Cause like you, you
- 28:27Speaker 2: wouldn't dislike Billy so much if he wasn't a good actor.
- 28:30Speaker 3: You'd just be like, ah, that guy's so good at
- 28:32Speaker 3: being just an awful person. Yeah.
- 28:34Speaker 2: He sucks in that third season. So I'm just like,
- 28:37Speaker 2: what is going on here? But yeah, he's, um, they're
- 28:42Speaker 2: both really good at it. Like it, it, it originally
- 28:44Speaker 2: took place. It's a guy who was, it's sort of
- 28:47Speaker 2: like that. What was the money monster? The one that
- 28:50Speaker 2: was like a guy that was losing money and took
- 28:53Speaker 2: somebody hostage. But this actually happened in the seventies. So
- 28:55Speaker 2: he like was getting screwed out of a like real
- 28:59Speaker 2: estate deal. So he thought, and so he took it
- 29:01Speaker 2: upon himself to go to the bank and he was
- 29:04Speaker 2: going to take the owner as hostage to like get
- 29:08Speaker 2: him out of his situation and get him back his
- 29:10Speaker 2: like deal that he thought he was supposed to get.
- 29:13Speaker 2: And the owner wasn't there. He was, like, off on vacation,
- 29:16Speaker 2: you know, doing whatever he wants because he's a rich guy.
- 29:18Speaker 2: But his son was there running the show. And so
- 29:21Speaker 2: he just was like, all right, good enough. You'll do.
- 29:23Speaker 2: And he takes his son hostage. And he, like, the
- 29:26Speaker 2: title is, like, he hooks up. And they showed footage
- 29:29Speaker 2: of it afterwards. He really did this. He hooks up
- 29:31Speaker 2: a wire that's from him to a shotgun attached to him.
- 29:35Speaker 2: And so if he does anything, if they, it's also
- 29:38Speaker 2: connected to him as the one to the gun so
- 29:40Speaker 2: if they shoot him and he like drops dead like
- 29:43Speaker 2: it also kills the other guy so he's got this
- 29:45Speaker 2: like rigged up little wired system that keeps it so
- 29:49Speaker 2: that he's constantly at gunpoint and also they can't kill
- 29:53Speaker 2: him or it kills the hostage as well and he
- 29:56Speaker 2: really did all that shit in the 70s so it's
- 29:59Speaker 2: it's an interesting story and you start to kind of
- 30:02Speaker 2: see his perspective, but then you really, you're still pretty,
- 30:06Speaker 2: you feel pretty bad for the other guy who had
- 30:07Speaker 2: nothing to do with it. Like his dad's a dick,
- 30:09Speaker 2: but like he didn't have anything to do with that.
- 30:11Speaker 2: He's just like came into work doing his job. Like,
- 30:13Speaker 2: so that one's pretty interesting and had a, a real
- 30:17Speaker 2: world tie in that was pretty, pretty surprising. And it
- 30:21Speaker 2: was this, you see footage of it and it's like, no,
- 30:23Speaker 2: they're really close. Like they, they were pretty accurate on
- 30:25Speaker 2: this stuff when they recreated everything. So, Yeah, I was
- 30:29Speaker 2: impressed with it. Just Fans Ant still knocking out good movies, man.
- 30:33Speaker 3: According to the internet, it is Dayker. Like, Aker with
- 30:37Speaker 3: a D.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Dayker. I don't think I'd ever heard it said, so
- 30:42Speaker 2: I guess that's why I didn't know what to do
- 30:43Speaker 2: with it.
- 30:43Speaker 3: Well, if you had Aker, Dayker.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just saying in general. For as much as
- 30:48Speaker 2: he was in the spotlight, I don't remember anybody ever
- 30:50Speaker 2: saying it in interviews or anything.
- 30:53Speaker 3: I don't like how they break down his last name, though. Because,
- 30:55Speaker 3: I mean, usually Montgomery, I'm not going to have a
- 30:56Speaker 3: problem with. For them to say Monta-ga-ma.
- 31:01Speaker 2: We need all the help we can get.
- 31:03Speaker 3: They don't even pronounce the second M. I'm so confused.
- 31:05Speaker 2: That's still too much M.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Monta-ga-ry.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I think that's... That ain't how words go.
- 31:13Speaker 3: I don't trust you, internet. Lies, I tell you, lies.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I don't know. Have you done any other interesting geek activities? Hmm.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Boyfriend's been skateboarding a lot, which we already talked about that.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Have you injured yourself any?
- 31:35Speaker 1: I mean, I haven't broken anything.
- 31:36Speaker 2: That's a plus.
- 31:37Speaker 1: I busted my elbow the other day in the pool.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I started skating pools.
- 31:43Speaker 2: I would think harder to find those around here. Well, bowls. Yeah,
- 31:47Speaker 2: we're not like an in-ground pool kind of a part
- 31:50Speaker 2: of the country.
- 31:50Speaker 1: No, but they've built several parks. Yeah. Uh, and they
- 31:54Speaker 1: have like, uh, bowls with pool coping and stuff like
- 31:58Speaker 1: that tile around them to simulate pools.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Cool.
- 32:01Speaker 1: So I've been getting into that, but I slipped, uh,
- 32:05Speaker 1: slipped in one of them. So I had a wheel
- 32:08Speaker 1: kind of slide out on me and, uh, fell and
- 32:13Speaker 1: one of my elbow pads rode up and then I
- 32:15Speaker 1: busted my elbow somehow. Not sure how that happened, but
- 32:18Speaker 1: that's about it. You know, other than that, I've gotten
- 32:21Speaker 1: pretty good at knee sliding out of falls and stuff.
- 32:25Speaker 2: That's an important thing to learn.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:27Speaker 2: The hard way, probably.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:30Speaker 1: So, yeah, I've just been skating a lot, probably three, four,
- 32:38Speaker 1: sometimes five days a week.
- 32:41Speaker 2: That's a lot.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I need to probably slow down and take a few
- 32:47Speaker 1: recovery days, but that's kind of hard to do when
- 32:49Speaker 1: you don't want to slow down.
- 32:50Speaker 2: So, you know, I'm just, it's good if you want
- 32:53Speaker 2: to do it though. That's the thing.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I'm kind of looking at it like we're only on
- 32:56Speaker 1: this planet for a short time. So, and you know,
- 33:01Speaker 1: I'm only going to be this young for so long,
- 33:03Speaker 1: you know, cause, and you're pushing it already.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I'm already pushing it, you know?
- 33:08Speaker 3: So, uh, next year you'll be a whole year older. Yeah.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I'm not getting any younger. So yeah, but it's, uh,
- 33:20Speaker 1: Not really. It's inspirational, but then it's also good to
- 33:23Speaker 1: know that there are guys out there in their 60s
- 33:25Speaker 1: that are still skating. That's true.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Occasionally, every once in a while, we'll see. There was
- 33:31Speaker 2: somebody else I ran across on Instagram, too. It just
- 33:34Speaker 2: popped up probably because I'm watching your stuff, and it's
- 33:37Speaker 2: now starting to link me to other things that are
- 33:39Speaker 2: skateboard related. But there's another dude that.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Is like, hey.
- 33:42Speaker 2: 53, just starting to start skating again. I was like, oh, okay.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I know that guy. Same age as me.
- 33:50Speaker 2: I was like, here we go.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 33:54Speaker 2: So it's a thing.
- 33:56Speaker 1: The good thing is that a lot of the guys
- 33:59Speaker 1: that I grew up skating with have now all gotten
- 34:04Speaker 1: back into it too.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Thanks to you, kind of.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of thanks to me. I've dragged them back in.
- 34:11Speaker 2: They're like, no, don't make me. Yeah. My busted knees.
- 34:16Speaker 2: My hip.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot of complaining about hips and backs
- 34:20Speaker 1: and stuff like that and trying to get people to stretch.
- 34:22Speaker 1: That's one thing.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Stretching's dumb. I don't want to do that.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Hey, stretch for the fall, you know, not the ride. So, but,
- 34:32Speaker 1: you know, it's been a life-changing experience. I think Misty
- 34:36Speaker 1: likes me better now. I'm not as a stick in
- 34:40Speaker 1: the mud and.
- 34:41Speaker 3: You're wearing crazy socks now.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yeah, whatever.
- 34:44Speaker 3: You used to, like, talk shit about guys wearing, like,
- 34:47Speaker 3: crazy fun, like, quirky socks.
- 34:49Speaker 1: No, because I wasn't a fun person. I was pretty
- 34:52Speaker 1: much a stick in the mud and angry and just
- 34:57Speaker 1: not really happy, you know.
- 34:58Speaker 2: I've been there.
- 34:59Speaker 1: So, yeah.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Maybe you need to start skateboarding.
- 35:02Speaker 2: I barely am functional at this point. There's already creaking
- 35:05Speaker 2: and popping and weird things going on, so I'm just
- 35:07Speaker 2: trying to keep moving. If I keep moving, everything will
- 35:10Speaker 2: keep working, but So I'm trying not to be overly stationary. Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Movement's key.
- 35:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:16Speaker 2: But I, I, as I've discussed a lot more lately
- 35:20Speaker 2: and with other people getting into doing more podcasting with
- 35:25Speaker 2: different people and crossing over and this, this is the
- 35:28Speaker 2: one thing that I enjoy doing. So it's like over
- 35:31Speaker 2: the years I've been like, what am I doing? Why
- 35:33Speaker 2: am I still doing this? And then like recently I've
- 35:36Speaker 2: been like, no, screw it. Like this is, this is
- 35:38Speaker 2: what I like doing. This is what I was doing
- 35:40Speaker 2: before there was podcasting. I would hang out and talk
- 35:43Speaker 2: about movies and be geeks with other geeks. And like,
- 35:46Speaker 2: that's what we did. And like, then I found a
- 35:49Speaker 2: way to record it. I was like, Oh, this is
- 35:51Speaker 2: its own thing now. So now it's like this many
- 35:53Speaker 2: years in, I'm like, what am I going to not
- 35:55Speaker 2: do this? And just sit at home and be bored
- 35:58Speaker 2: as well as annoyed at the world. It's like, I'm
- 36:01Speaker 2: still slightly annoyed at the world, but like the few
- 36:03Speaker 2: times I enjoy myself is when I, get involved with
- 36:07Speaker 2: other geeks and talk about movies and talk about pop
- 36:09Speaker 2: culture stuff. And just that's, that's the best part of
- 36:12Speaker 2: life at this point. So it's like, yeah, yeah, let's get,
- 36:14Speaker 2: let's get together and do this. Is it just me?
- 36:17Speaker 1: Or have you noticed that like pop culture is kind of,
- 36:24Speaker 1: maybe it's just me, but I'm like pop culture kind
- 36:28Speaker 1: of like trying to think how to word this today
- 36:33Speaker 1: doesn't exist. When you think about pop culture, it's all
- 36:36Speaker 1: from the 80s and 90s. And maybe the early 2000s.
- 36:40Speaker 1: But is there pop culture being created now that we
- 36:44Speaker 1: don't know about?
- 36:45Speaker 2: I mean, there is, just because you look at what
- 36:48Speaker 2: caught on this last year. And again, I'm mostly in movies,
- 36:53Speaker 2: so that's the thing. As much as I think specifically,
- 36:57Speaker 2: not to play the game of your generation, but Gen
- 37:00Speaker 2: X kids were like a dividing line. We grew up
- 37:03Speaker 2: watching pop culture stuff. Like, World War II kids didn't
- 37:06Speaker 2: have none of that. They're like, shut up and go
- 37:08Speaker 2: get a job.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Or go to war.
- 37:10Speaker 2: These are your options. Like, they just didn't have time
- 37:13Speaker 2: to indulge in that. And Gen X kids came along
- 37:15Speaker 2: and were just like, ooh, Gilligan's Island.
- 37:17Speaker 3: This is awesome. Cartoons. Yes.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Like, everything they did, like, they had just enough time.
- 37:22Speaker 2: They still were weird hardcore kids and they were out
- 37:24Speaker 2: there biking around and skateboarding and getting into trouble.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Well, I know them and, like, millennials and maybe kids...
- 37:33Speaker 1: my kid's age, but a lot of her pop culture
- 37:36Speaker 1: stuff is my stuff. You know?
- 37:38Speaker 2: It is, but they're creating, again, I think most of
- 37:41Speaker 2: that new wave of kids has shifted internet. Everything is
- 37:45Speaker 2: so internet based because it's been there since they've been conceived.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Well, no, I mean, my kid's still like, when she
- 37:51Speaker 1: talks about like, okay, her, she's into pop culture, but
- 37:54Speaker 1: she's into like, Godzilla. You know, Mystery Science Theater. Like, music, like,
- 38:01Speaker 1: stuff that I raised her on That, unfortunately, she can't
- 38:05Speaker 1: really talk to other kids about.
- 38:07Speaker 2: I think that all factors into the parents, too. Because
- 38:10Speaker 2: I know so many, again, the geeks that I talk to,
- 38:13Speaker 2: a lot of their kids are like that. But that's
- 38:14Speaker 2: because they were such hardcore geeks into that kind of stuff. Yeah.
- 38:18Speaker 2: That they just immediately, like, sometimes without even trying. Sometimes
- 38:22Speaker 2: without even forcing it on them. Just, like, because it
- 38:24Speaker 2: was always around. By osmosis, they picked up that level
- 38:28Speaker 2: of geekiness and that specific types of things that they
- 38:31Speaker 2: were into.
- 38:31Speaker 1: But I have noticed a lot of the kids, because
- 38:33Speaker 1: it's funny, like, okay, now we're old because my coworkers
- 38:38Speaker 1: are now my kids' age. You know, people coming into
- 38:41Speaker 1: the workforce are now my kids' age or younger. But
- 38:45Speaker 1: I notice they're always, like, referencing, like, SpongeBob and stuff
- 38:50Speaker 1: like that, which is kind of funny because, like, I
- 38:54Speaker 1: watched a lot of Spongebob with my daughter growing up.
- 38:57Speaker 2: And you're not even a stoner, is the weird one. No.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Because that has its own group.
- 39:01Speaker 1: But it was just so mind-numbingly stupid. And I'm into
- 39:04Speaker 1: some stupid-ass shit.
- 39:06Speaker 2: It's entertaining. They know what they're doing.
- 39:07Speaker 1: It's entertainment. Just mindless entertainment.
- 39:09Speaker 2: They know what they're doing.
- 39:10Speaker 1: So, like, they'll reference shit and stuff. But I get it.
- 39:16Speaker 1: And they're like, what? You know. Just dumb stuff. You know.
- 39:21Speaker 2: But. See, I think that's because I ask we were
- 39:28Speaker 2: playing this game of like, do you know what this is?
- 39:30Speaker 2: is earlier yeah i was asking misty about the amazing
- 39:32Speaker 2: digital circus and i was like are you familiar with
- 39:35Speaker 2: that which i don't think you are nope still not
- 39:38Speaker 2: but That, I mean, it's, like, a weird thing that, like,
- 39:41Speaker 2: some random dude, like, I know minimal about it, but
- 39:44Speaker 2: I was like, I've heard other people talk about it, but, like,
- 39:46Speaker 2: it's a guy that just started doing this animated thing
- 39:49Speaker 2: on his computer, and he did it, like, pretty much single-handedly. And, like,
- 39:54Speaker 2: it took so long because he was doing it the
- 39:56Speaker 2: old-fashioned way, like, him by himself, basically. And so there's only, like,
- 40:01Speaker 2: eight or ten episodes out there, and it was over
- 40:03Speaker 2: years for him to get that long. But by the end,
- 40:06Speaker 2: it got picked up by Netflix, and... It had this
- 40:08Speaker 2: huge following with all these new kids. And then it
- 40:11Speaker 2: like theatrically, the last episode ran in theaters and had
- 40:15Speaker 2: like a huge turnout and they're selling like tons of
- 40:18Speaker 2: go to freaking hot topic a couple of months ago.
- 40:20Speaker 2: And it was wall to wall digital circus kids. Like
- 40:22Speaker 2: it was nothing but merchandise for that thing that again,
- 40:26Speaker 2: adults had no idea what this was.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I think maybe a, You've.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Probably seen the characters and went, what the hell is that? Because, yeah,
- 40:32Speaker 2: it's like I saw them and went, wait, that's familiar,
- 40:34Speaker 2: but I don't know what it's from.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Yeah, because I asked my daughter about it and she
- 40:37Speaker 1: wasn't into it, but she said her sisters were into it.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that girl. She's like the main, yeah, she's the
- 40:43Speaker 2: main focus. She's on all the merch and like, but
- 40:47Speaker 2: it's like kind of weird and dark from what I've heard.
- 40:49Speaker 2: So it's not like kid stuff. It looks like it
- 40:51Speaker 2: would be totally kiddified.
- 40:52Speaker 3: The Amazing Digital Circus?
- 40:54Speaker 2: Uh-huh. It looks like it would be super kiddy, but
- 40:57Speaker 2: like once you get into it, it's a lot of
- 40:58Speaker 2: like existential crisis and like again that's what kids are
- 41:02Speaker 2: like super serious now so they like they identify with
- 41:04Speaker 2: that stuff they're not dumb like they're they're ignorant sometimes
- 41:08Speaker 2: because they're kids but like they're the new wave of
- 41:11Speaker 2: kids like if you give them the right stuff they're
- 41:13Speaker 2: smart enough to process this stuff so it's like i
- 41:15Speaker 2: actually have kind of hope for the future with with
- 41:18Speaker 2: kids coming up because then you also look at like
- 41:21Speaker 2: that massive pushback in theaters and a lot of that
- 41:23Speaker 2: was like kids off the internet it was it was
- 41:26Speaker 2: obsession and it was back rooms and like both of
- 41:28Speaker 2: those were, like, 20-year-old kids that started doing nothing but YouTube. Like,
- 41:33Speaker 2: they came up on YouTube. My daughter. Because, yeah, because
- 41:37Speaker 2: it existed since they were born. And, like, this is
- 41:39Speaker 2: how they learned to express themselves. And, like, this was
- 41:41Speaker 2: their art form.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:43Speaker 2: And they immediately, like, finally some network, you know, studio
- 41:47Speaker 2: bigwig somewhere went, oh, wait, we can make money off this.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Hold on. Throw them a couple bucks here. Let them
- 41:51Speaker 2: make something. And, like, people showed up in droves. And, like,
- 41:54Speaker 2: that stuff, like, especially something like, Because Obsession is just
- 41:58Speaker 2: like old school horror, essentially. It's well made and well acted.
- 42:02Speaker 2: But like the back rooms is so weird and is
- 42:05Speaker 2: so specifically like born of the Internet that there's no
- 42:09Speaker 2: way this movie would have ever existed on its own.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Like had the base not been built for a decade
- 42:16Speaker 2: or more on the Internet, it wouldn't have caught up
- 42:19Speaker 2: with all these other. again, more square people that weren't
- 42:22Speaker 2: all that into it were also showing up going, wait,
- 42:24Speaker 2: what are these kids talking about? So it's like, I
- 42:26Speaker 2: do see, like, there's this weird push of pop culture
- 42:30Speaker 2: that kids are into that is just sort of, like,
- 42:33Speaker 2: out of the wavelength of what, you know, grown-ups are
- 42:36Speaker 2: paying attention to, but, like, eventually it's getting picked up
- 42:39Speaker 2: just enough for them to start making money off of,
- 42:41Speaker 2: the important part, and then it catches on.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Well, the other pushback I've noticed, too, with kids is, like,
- 42:48Speaker 1: there's this whole movement towards physical media again.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I've seen that lately, too.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I'm 100% on board with that. Like, my kid's asking
- 42:55Speaker 1: me about CRT TVs. And I've got one, but she's
- 42:59Speaker 1: not going to get it. Because that's ours, you know?
- 43:03Speaker 1: Because she's going back and playing Nintendo 64. Is it
- 43:07Speaker 1: the one in the bedroom? Yeah, it's the one in
- 43:08Speaker 1: the bedroom.
- 43:09Speaker 3: That was hers originally?
- 43:10Speaker 1: Was it?
- 43:11Speaker 2: She doesn't even know that.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I bought it. Or somebody bought it. We
- 43:17Speaker 1: bought it. I don't know. Either I bought it or
- 43:20Speaker 1: you bought it. I don't give a shit. That's my
- 43:23Speaker 1: Conan TV.
- 43:24Speaker 3: That's your sick, need your Conan medicine TV.
- 43:28Speaker 1: For people who don't know, if I ever get sick
- 43:31Speaker 1: with the flu, the only cure is watching Conan the Barbarian,
- 43:37Speaker 1: Conan the Destroyer, and Red Sonja.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Part three in the trilogy.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Yeah, part three in the trilogy while being completely blitzed
- 43:45Speaker 1: on cough syrup and NyQuil. Usually I just drink a
- 43:50Speaker 1: bunch of NyQuil and then go into a weird... You
- 43:53Speaker 1: cocoon yourself. Yeah, I cocoon myself and sweat it out
- 43:56Speaker 1: like a sweat lodge and go into this crazy Conan-fueled,
- 44:02Speaker 1: you know, tripping balls fever dream. Yeah, it's wild.
- 44:07Speaker 2: I mean, that first Conan movie is pretty trippy anyway.
- 44:09Speaker 2: It's very art house for something that became just, let's
- 44:13Speaker 2: slash people up with swords. But I'm like, truthfully, it
- 44:15Speaker 2: had a real director. It had like actual weird visuals
- 44:19Speaker 2: that like you wouldn't expect for, you know, the next
- 44:21Speaker 2: two became way more popcorn.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:23Speaker 2: First one's pretty, pretty trippy.
- 44:25Speaker 1: First one's great. Second one.
- 44:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:27Speaker 1: It gets a little campy.
- 44:28Speaker 2: I liked the second one at the time. I have
- 44:30Speaker 2: not watched it a million years, but it's way more popcorn.
- 44:33Speaker 1: It is. And then, uh, Of course, Red Sonja. That's
- 44:38Speaker 1: a great movie. It's silly, but it's good.
- 44:42Speaker 2: But yeah, I think that's a push. I think the
- 44:44Speaker 2: last half of this push was like, but vinyl has
- 44:48Speaker 2: been a thing forever if you were a vinyl dork.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:50Speaker 2: But like kids getting introduced to media in general, I
- 44:54Speaker 2: think vinyl was that first thing that were like, Oh,
- 44:56Speaker 2: this is what you do. This is the cool thing.
- 44:58Speaker 2: And using air quotes. Yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Even vinyl.
- 45:01Speaker 2: But even CDs have caught back on like in a point.
- 45:04Speaker 3: That big Sony thing recently, it's kind of kicked everybody
- 45:06Speaker 3: in the ass. And they were like, yeah, You don't
- 45:08Speaker 3: own anything you get from them. Oh, yeah.
- 45:10Speaker 2: That didn't help on their part. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:12Speaker 1: The stuff with the video games, that's really pushed kids
- 45:15Speaker 1: into going back to, like, the old video games that
- 45:20Speaker 1: their parents had that they kind of grew up with.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Music is another one. I noticed a lot of kids
- 45:27Speaker 1: are going back to wired earbuds just because they say
- 45:32Speaker 1: the music quality is better.
- 45:33Speaker 3: You know.
- 45:34Speaker 2: I just don't like... I barely use the wireless ones,
- 45:37Speaker 2: and I hate trying to connect them, because half the time,
- 45:40Speaker 2: one or the other doesn't want to connect.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Oh, my God. Dude, you have no idea how many arguments...
- 45:43Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. The arguments I've heard between boyfriend
- 45:46Speaker 3: and his headless... Headless. His wireless.
- 45:48Speaker 2: He's going to be headless if he don't watch himself.
- 45:50Speaker 3: His wireless headphones. Oh, my God. I'm like, dude.
- 45:53Speaker 2: I'm telling you. That's why eventually I just went back
- 45:55Speaker 2: to the wire.
- 45:56Speaker 1: I'm like, it's fine.
- 45:57Speaker 2: I'll just yank it on stuff every once in a while. Yeah.
- 45:59Speaker 1: The crappy thing is now is like most phones don't
- 46:02Speaker 1: have a.
- 46:03Speaker 2: You got to use the bottom jack, the power jack.
- 46:05Speaker 2: That's the only one I use.
- 46:07Speaker 1: But still, that's an extra dongle you got to buy.
- 46:10Speaker 2: You can't.
- 46:10Speaker 3: Dongle.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what it's called.
- 46:12Speaker 2: It's called a dongle. They have a headphone jack, but
- 46:14Speaker 2: you can't put it in there because the case won't
- 46:17Speaker 2: allow it to go in all the way. Oh, yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 2: And it unplugs itself.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Again, which is why I'm going back to an MP3 player.
- 46:23Speaker 1: You know? That, and I don't need alerts every five seconds.
- 46:26Speaker 1: I'm busy working, you know? And I'm getting alerts on
- 46:29Speaker 1: my phone, so I got to stop what I'm doing,
- 46:31Speaker 1: walk over and look at my phone. Just to see
- 46:33Speaker 1: that it's like, Sam's Club is running a special. Dude,
- 46:36Speaker 1: I don't fucking care.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Mine tells me every time some random person posted a photo,
- 46:41Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't, okay, fine, later I'll look at it.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Why do you need to alert me of this? Yeah,
- 46:47Speaker 1: I've muted all my notifications to that, but I still
- 46:50Speaker 1: get dumb texts from my coworkers.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Oh my god, yeah.
- 46:55Speaker 1: You know, notifications either from Sam's Club or Pull Apart
- 47:02Speaker 1: or Something dumb that I've subscribed to and then I've
- 47:06Speaker 1: got to keep typing stop. Oh, you've unsubscribed from it.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Then I get messages again.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think every time I've tried to stop, they
- 47:15Speaker 2: still keep sending me. I'm like, what's the point of
- 47:16Speaker 2: offering this thing? Every time I unsubscribe to an email,
- 47:19Speaker 2: it still shows up two days later. I'm like, what's
- 47:22Speaker 2: the point? Yeah. But yeah, I mean, I think a
- 47:25Speaker 2: lot of that's kicked in with the last generation and
- 47:28Speaker 2: a half of kids that have started picking up on like, oh,
- 47:32Speaker 2: this way wasn't, you know, they made fun of us
- 47:34Speaker 2: for still doing that for a while. But eventually they
- 47:36Speaker 2: were like, oh, well, this part's kind of cool. So
- 47:37Speaker 2: they started picking and choosing which parts of it they liked.
- 47:41Speaker 2: And like, I think as the kids get older, they're like, well,
- 47:44Speaker 2: this is cool.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that and the fact that like, if I
- 47:48Speaker 1: want to watch a movie, and I don't have it
- 47:52Speaker 1: and I go on streaming service and they don't have it,
- 47:54Speaker 1: then I'm, I can't watch it. Yeah.
- 47:56Speaker 2: I mean, that's, well, and I'm just so, and this
- 47:59Speaker 2: is a regular thing that I complain about. I'm just
- 48:01Speaker 2: so sick of all the ads. Like that's the, I
- 48:04Speaker 2: will go, but cause now you can go find, even
- 48:06Speaker 2: if it's like a lame DVD, it's like, you can
- 48:08Speaker 2: go buy a lame DVD for a buck, but I
- 48:10Speaker 2: can get in and out of the movie in an hour.
- 48:12Speaker 1: And a half versus over two hours.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Sometimes, sometimes it's like two and a half hours for
- 48:18Speaker 2: a regular movie because they, one of six ads will
- 48:21Speaker 2: pop up. And then 15 minutes later, one of six
- 48:23Speaker 2: ads again. I'm like, really? I'm like, I don't need
- 48:26Speaker 2: to be here all day. I've got other stuff I'd
- 48:28Speaker 2: like to do instead of just make this mini series
- 48:32Speaker 2: go on all day. Like, just let me watch the
- 48:34Speaker 2: movie and be done with it. And I'll be back
- 48:36Speaker 2: to watching an old DVD because of that.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:40Speaker 2: So they're probably learning that the hard way too. Like,
- 48:42Speaker 2: why are all these ads on here?
- 48:43Speaker 1: Well, that, you know, um, The fact that people were
- 48:47Speaker 1: buying games and stuff like we had talked about before,
- 48:51Speaker 1: and then they just erased everybody's games.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Just yanked your movies out from under you.
- 48:56Speaker 1: You don't own it. Yeah, you don't own it. Well, yeah,
- 48:58Speaker 1: that's why I'm buying physical media again, so that I
- 49:01Speaker 1: do own it.
- 49:02Speaker 2: I never stopped. I never switched to digital on anything, really.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Everything I bought, and kind of for that reason, like,
- 49:10Speaker 2: I still bought CDs for the handful of new music
- 49:13Speaker 2: I would buy. If I could find it on CD,
- 49:15Speaker 2: I would buy it just so I'd have a hard
- 49:16Speaker 2: copy of it.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I've still got a lot of my old CDs.
- 49:19Speaker 1: I still listen to a majority of the same music
- 49:21Speaker 1: I listen to.
- 49:22Speaker 2: I do, too.
- 49:23Speaker 1: There's some stuff, though, that I've kind of branched out on,
- 49:25Speaker 1: like some Synthwave. I'm trying to think. There's some other
- 49:31Speaker 1: stuff that I don't have that I can't get that's
- 49:36Speaker 1: either local music or... some more obscure punk that is like, Oh,
- 49:43Speaker 1: it was only available on a seven inch and now
- 49:46Speaker 1: I can't find it. And if I do find it, uh,
- 49:49Speaker 1: they want like some stupid amount of money for, you know,
- 49:52Speaker 1: I'm still, it's like just, you know, certain things like I'm,
- 49:55Speaker 1: I'm trying to find, uh, Thrasher magazine, skate volume 10.
- 50:01Speaker 1: They made it on cassette and I think they might've
- 50:03Speaker 1: made it on CD, but my buddy, uh, Josh, uh,
- 50:08Speaker 1: He had it on cassette tape, and we used to
- 50:11Speaker 1: listen to it every day when we were skating up
- 50:15Speaker 1: at his house, because he lived out in the middle
- 50:17Speaker 1: of nowhere, but he had a paved driveway, and it
- 50:22Speaker 1: was a fairly large paved driveway, but what was even
- 50:26Speaker 1: better than that is he had a parking block out there,
- 50:30Speaker 1: and I don't know where he got the, he probably
- 50:32Speaker 1: stole it, but He had a parking block.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Allegedly.
- 50:36Speaker 1: He's dead now, so. Nobody can come back and get him.
- 50:42Speaker 1: But we would wax and skate that parking block for,
- 50:45Speaker 1: you know, just hours while he was blasting that music.
- 50:49Speaker 1: So that, that's gotta be early, like, Early 90s. 89
- 50:57Speaker 1: or 90 is when it came out, and I just
- 50:59Speaker 1: have not been able to find it. You found one
- 51:01Speaker 1: copy in Germany, I think, right?
- 51:03Speaker 3: I found a cassette tape.
- 51:05Speaker 1: A cassette tape in Germany, but then it was like,
- 51:07Speaker 1: what was it, like $ 60?
- 51:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it was $ 30 for the cassette and then $ 30
- 51:11Speaker 3: for shipping.
- 51:12Speaker 1: $ 30 for shipping? I'm just like, eh.
- 51:15Speaker 2: There's a lot of that stuff that I... Yeah, because
- 51:17Speaker 2: I've noticed looking for stuff that I have... Sometimes I'll
- 51:20Speaker 2: have the CD and I'll be like, oh, maybe I'll
- 51:21Speaker 2: just see if I can find it streaming just for
- 51:24Speaker 2: the hell of it. See if it's on YouTube. There's
- 51:26Speaker 2: some stuff that just isn't. It's a weird compilation that
- 51:29Speaker 2: I bought on CD because I'm a weirdo. And then
- 51:31Speaker 2: I'm looking for it and I'm like, I can't even find...
- 51:33Speaker 2: No one has bothered to transfer this weird compilation from
- 51:36Speaker 2: 30 years ago onto CD onto YouTube.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Yeah, somebody actually put this on YouTube. So that's the
- 51:43Speaker 1: only way I've been... able to listen to it. Yeah.
- 51:46Speaker 1: And I don't even know how I found it or
- 51:48Speaker 1: how I came across it, but it popped up and
- 51:50Speaker 1: I was like, holy shit, I haven't heard this in
- 51:52Speaker 1: like fucking 30 years. And I was like, now I
- 51:56Speaker 1: got to find it. Surely it's out there. And then
- 51:59Speaker 1: I went to look for it and yeah. Good luck, buddy.
- 52:01Speaker 2: That's the thing. I will make use of the new
- 52:03Speaker 2: technology because that's, I love the weird stuff, especially the like,
- 52:07Speaker 2: I don't want to take money from anybody. Like if
- 52:09Speaker 2: it's stuff that's still licensed, you know, go buy the
- 52:11Speaker 2: new thing. But, like, the stuff that's gone into public domain,
- 52:14Speaker 2: the stuff that's totally lost and nobody even knows who
- 52:16Speaker 2: owns Wright's Den anymore, and people stick that stuff on YouTube, like,
- 52:20Speaker 2: that saves it. Like, that salvages it for future generations that, like,
- 52:24Speaker 2: people want to hear this music and want to see
- 52:26Speaker 2: these movies and, like, sticking them out there and letting
- 52:28Speaker 2: people pull it and, like, work it into the dark
- 52:31Speaker 2: web that exists out there with all of our stolen material.
- 52:34Speaker 2: It's like, well, you know, for the stuff that's not...
- 52:37Speaker 2: licensed it's like i like that it saves that kind
- 52:39Speaker 2: of stuff so i will definitely make use of finding
- 52:41Speaker 2: stuff like that if if that's the situation it falls
- 52:44Speaker 2: into that is just lost to the ages.
- 52:46Speaker 1: Otherwise yeah luckily a lot of the synthwave stuff is
- 52:50Speaker 1: on bandcamp because the artists are so small yeah that
- 52:53Speaker 1: i can either buy physical copies from them because they
- 52:56Speaker 1: make like limited numbers of cds and they actually even
- 52:59Speaker 1: do vinyl too which is pretty cool because earlier in
- 53:04Speaker 1: the year uh magic sword and uh was it dance
- 53:10Speaker 1: with the dead yeah dance of the dead and magic
- 53:12Speaker 1: sword played in louisville and i got a dance with
- 53:16Speaker 1: the dead vinyl like a colored vinyl and actually got
- 53:19Speaker 1: everybody to sign it which was cool because at the
- 53:22Speaker 1: end of the show i was like hey can i
- 53:24Speaker 1: get everybody to sign the vinyl and they were like
- 53:28Speaker 1: yeah you know yes please that's awesome you know i
- 53:32Speaker 1: was like make it out to me because I'm not
- 53:35Speaker 1: going to sell it. I'm not going to put it
- 53:36Speaker 1: on eBay. I want it made out to me.
- 53:38Speaker 2: You know, that's carrying over because that's again, old man
- 53:42Speaker 2: that I am. But every once in a while, because
- 53:44Speaker 2: of random things will pop up on streaming. I will
- 53:47Speaker 2: find new stuff. So there is in this last eight
- 53:50Speaker 2: month period, I had never heard of this band, found them,
- 53:54Speaker 2: was like, Oh, I actually like this overall what they're doing.
- 53:57Speaker 2: And then like their latest album, there's like a whole
- 53:59Speaker 2: new aspect to it. And I'm like, this is really good.
- 54:02Speaker 2: They were coming to town. I went and saw them
- 54:04Speaker 2: in person. Everyone else there was like half my age.
- 54:09Speaker 2: But I'm like, I went to physically see a band
- 54:12Speaker 2: live because I heard of them. And like, this is
- 54:14Speaker 2: the way it used to go. These guys were cool.
- 54:17Speaker 2: And I went and saw them play live. And then
- 54:19Speaker 2: they were selling merchandise. They had CDs. And they were
- 54:22Speaker 2: all signed by the band. And I was just like,
- 54:25Speaker 2: this is awesome. And I bought that CD. And I'm
- 54:27Speaker 2: listening to it on my phone. So it's like, it's all...
- 54:30Speaker 2: still kind of going on. It's just a little clunkier
- 54:33Speaker 2: in the way that it works, but it's still for
- 54:36Speaker 2: anybody that's paying attention or any artists that are putting
- 54:38Speaker 2: an effort in, it's still out there. So it's like,
- 54:40Speaker 2: you just got to look for that stuff. Yeah.
- 54:41Speaker 1: You know, I went with my daughter because my daughter
- 54:44Speaker 1: got me into that music, which is, you know, it's
- 54:47Speaker 1: kind of funny because I had my kid, like I
- 54:51Speaker 1: introduced her to like kind of industrial and, uh, Some
- 54:59Speaker 1: of it's her mom, too. It's both of us because
- 55:01Speaker 1: we all listen to a lot of the same stuff,
- 55:03Speaker 1: but a lot of industrial, alternative, goth, stuff like that.
- 55:11Speaker 1: I introduced her more to the electronic stuff because I
- 55:14Speaker 1: was always more into club music and techno. It's not
- 55:24Speaker 1: really cyber goth.
- 55:25Speaker 2: House is a little too dancey.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Yeah, not house, but, like, just definite, like, you know,
- 55:31Speaker 1: hardcore techno.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:32Speaker 1: And then she started getting into, like, dark synth.
- 55:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:39Speaker 1: And.
- 55:40Speaker 2: There's such, like, layers upon layers of all of this stuff.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Subsections of, like, metal bands on, yeah.
- 55:48Speaker 1: Dark synth, and then chiptune, and then... What was the
- 55:52Speaker 1: other one? There's, like, some of it's, like, dream wave
- 55:56Speaker 1: and mall wave. And, uh, like I get into mall wave,
- 56:01Speaker 1: fucking love mall wave.
- 56:03Speaker 2: Shoe gaze was just the beginning. Yeah.
- 56:05Speaker 1: You know, but, uh, mall wave is really good. Chill wave, uh,
- 56:10Speaker 1: stuff like that. That's just, you know, relaxing.
- 56:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:15Speaker 1: She kind of, kind of got me into that. And that's,
- 56:19Speaker 1: you know, it's kind of cool because, you know, it's
- 56:21Speaker 1: like I've influenced her, in one way and then she's
- 56:24Speaker 1: influenced me into listening to music too.
- 56:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:27Speaker 1: And, uh, it's been pretty fun. Um, it's funny cause
- 56:31Speaker 1: her mom doesn't like a lot of what she listens to,
- 56:34Speaker 1: but it's like, so that makes it even more me
- 56:36Speaker 1: and me and her have a lot of the same
- 56:38Speaker 1: music tastes, which is kind of funny, but, uh, for
- 56:41Speaker 1: the most part, but she doesn't like, I don't think
- 56:42Speaker 1: she likes like early, early punk. I mean, she likes
- 56:46Speaker 1: Ramones and clash and stuff like that. Devo, but, Um,
- 56:52Speaker 1: she doesn't get into like, uh, uh, some of the
- 56:56Speaker 1: other stuff that I like, you know, I mean, she's
- 56:58Speaker 1: not like a suicide, early suicidal tendencies fan, doesn't get
- 57:02Speaker 1: into thrash metal or anything like that, but that's okay.
- 57:05Speaker 2: There's some kid out there that's into him. It's fine.
- 57:07Speaker 1: It's no big deal, you know?
- 57:09Speaker 2: So it's all coming back. But, I mean, that's also
- 57:15Speaker 2: part of what we see at these conventions, too. Like,
- 57:18Speaker 2: there's so many kids out there. And, like, I think
- 57:21Speaker 2: that's part of this wave that's changed over the last 10,
- 57:25Speaker 2: 20 years, too, is, like, people are physically going out
- 57:29Speaker 2: in the world again for specific events like this. Maybe
- 57:31Speaker 2: not as much as, you know, we used to back
- 57:33Speaker 2: in the olden days, but that's because we didn't have
- 57:35Speaker 2: good stuff at home to do either. So, like... there
- 57:38Speaker 2: is this kind of stuff that like is, is bringing
- 57:41Speaker 2: people out. Like there's people physically creating, you know, media
- 57:44Speaker 2: and people that are making these movies, making these shows.
- 57:47Speaker 2: And then you get people that are excited to come
- 57:50Speaker 2: out into the real world and meet them and like
- 57:52Speaker 2: shake their hand and get an autograph and take a photo.
- 57:54Speaker 2: And like, that's all real physical, tangible things that are,
- 57:57Speaker 2: like going on and are bringing people out. And specifically
- 58:00Speaker 2: we see a lot of kids there.
- 58:02Speaker 3: We did see a tiny Columbia today. Yeah.
- 58:04Speaker 2: It's like, there's, there's whole new generations that are getting
- 58:07Speaker 2: caught up in the, in the convention part of it,
- 58:10Speaker 2: which again is very healthy, I think, because you're seeing
- 58:13Speaker 2: these are real people. Like this is an AI generated nonsense.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Like this is people writing this stuff. This is people
- 58:18Speaker 2: shooting these things. Like, and then they're physical people that
- 58:22Speaker 2: are out there having to make a living afterwards. So
- 58:23Speaker 2: they do these conventions and like, this is, number one,
- 58:26Speaker 2: you get out and support them and that's good, but
- 58:28Speaker 2: you're also like giving them another way to survive and
- 58:31Speaker 2: like be able to live until the next movie that
- 58:32Speaker 2: they make. So it's like, this is all part of
- 58:35Speaker 2: a bigger system that like, I, I still, I'm glad
- 58:38Speaker 2: to kind of see new generations embracing this too. Yeah.
- 58:41Speaker 1: They get influenced by it. They go off and create their,
- 58:44Speaker 1: their own thing that's new. And then the cycle continues.
- 58:47Speaker 2: Yeah. And they all go and draw crazy art. Yeah.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Everybody there is like 20 years old and drawing crazy art.
- 58:53Speaker 2: Half girl, half animal art. Like, there's so many crazy,
- 58:57Speaker 2: dreamy girl stickers in there, which, hey, we bought some
- 59:00Speaker 2: of that, too.
- 59:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but there's, like, a lot of cryptid stuff.
- 59:04Speaker 2: And, like, tons of that's kicking in now.
- 59:06Speaker 1: Cutie, like, animals and stuff like that, you know?
- 59:09Speaker 3: The cutie little Cthulhu's and stuff.
- 59:11Speaker 1: Yeah, stuff like that. I'm just like, why isn't my
- 59:13Speaker 1: kid at these things? But then I realize she's got, like.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Well, she doesn't have any social skills, but then Misty's like, well,
- 59:19Speaker 1: most of these people don't have.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Any social skills either. I was gonna say, this whole
- 59:21Speaker 2: place is nothing but people with no social skills. That's
- 59:23Speaker 2: why we're all here. We're gathered together.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I think she has... It's not her thing because
- 59:28Speaker 1: she has her Patreon and then she has her store
- 59:31Speaker 1: and everything like that. So she just sells her art
- 59:33Speaker 1: on her store. And she's pretty successful at that. And so,
- 59:39Speaker 1: you know, again, she doesn't have to go out in
- 59:40Speaker 1: the real world and meet people.
- 59:43Speaker 3: She doesn't have to leave the basement.
- 59:44Speaker 1: She doesn't have to leave the basement.
- 59:45Speaker 2: It's difficult for some kids. I might have spent a
- 59:48Speaker 2: lot of years in the basement. What do I know?
- 59:50Speaker 2: But I occasionally get out and meet people.
- 59:51Speaker 1: I mean, technically, she's not in the basement.
- 59:53Speaker 2: She's upstairs, but... But we bought stuff. You got stickers?
- 59:59Speaker 3: I did. I got cryptid stickers.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you got cryptid stickers.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Adorable cryptids.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: They are adorable.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: And see, I'm still doing things in the 3D world
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: because I bought minifigs. So, one of which might be legal.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: The other one looked kind of knock-off-y, but I don't
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: normally get into the knock-off ones, but this one was
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: at least entertaining. But yeah, you're building things and creating
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: things three-dimensionally. These are all real-world things. So, get out
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: in the world and buy things and meet people and
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: do things maybe not all the time but every once
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: in a while leave your basement and go out and
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: do cool stuff and connect with people at conventions and places.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Where you buy conventions like.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: Conventions like the lexington comic and toy convention So we
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: do want to thank them for letting us be part
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: of the show. They are available at lexingtoncomicon.com. So go
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: there and start booking. Normally I say for next year,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: but now it's not even a year away because you're
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: going to be back in the springtime for a whole
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: nother round. So go there and start planning your trip for,
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: I bet they've already got the date set. I bet
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: they've already signed up some guests already coming. So yep,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: just go there and get planning on your trip to
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: the next one. Anything else to pass along this week?
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: I can think of.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: Well, we occasionally do these crazy road trip shows, so
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: we will be back with one not too far into
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: the distant future.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Occasionally.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Be prepared.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Sporadically.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: For another one of those.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Sporadicus.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: I am sporadicus. I am sporadicus.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: I am sporadicus.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: On that note, otherwise that about does it. We will
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: return next time. Same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Bye.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: Later.
