[rock music] Rushing to cl- rushing to close the curtain.
• 0:18
Russians? Again. Russians and curtains. Hey, everybody. Again with the Russians. I thought Portuguese. Full spectrum- The Russian Spanish... cycling. This is show number 312 we're attempting to do right now.
• 0:29
Chicago, Chicago. Oh, that sun- The toddlin' town... area code down there in Chi-town. Yep. Yeah, the 312. Yeah, exactly. Uh, yeah, so full spectrum cycling. We got, uh, we got JK over there. I'm Sven.
• 0:47
Hello. Now, you've probably seen these two guys before, but, uh, that's Tony over there. This is not a re-run. This is live. Probably not. And we have also Sam D. In the studio we have- In the, in the house.
• 0:58
What you gonna do, bro? Hey, y'all... we have organic, uh, walnuts here. Um- They're delicious. Indeed we do. This one looks like a sumo wrestler, kinda. Yeah, it could look like a lot of funky things if you wanted to.
• 1:10
If- I'll eat that. I don't want to come crunching on- So you're eating half the sumo? No, I'm crunching on the air already. I'm- I'll eat it after on camera. [laughs] Okay.
• 1:16
No, I just saw a messenger come out and going like, "Hey." Everyone has to eat along the way. Winks at walnuts. Yeah. Right on. So, uh, I don't know. What's going on? Well, Toad.
• 1:27
Toad was last week, the Tour of America's Dairyland. Oh, yeah. Who- Oh. Hey, cool... I know you saw it. Mike, JK Mike over there saw a few of those races. That's always fun. Yeah.
• 1:36
I, I live in the, in the pocket of Shorewood, so I caught a little bit of that one. Uh, nobody I knew was really... It, it, that, that was in the, uh, hangover day of the Devo experience. Mm.
• 1:48
So not a lot of people were like, "Oh, let's go out on Friday," because... [laughs] It was like Downer over there is usually a hotspot for that, right? Yeah. That was Saturday. Yeah. That worked out.
• 1:57
It's, uh- That's a cool, that's fun... Friday, Friday- Friday was Shorewood? Friday was Shorewood, and that was a lot of kids, a lot of kids. And that's, you know, that's, uh- That's kind of what Shorewood does...
• 2:05
yeah, but I had the FU bike, so- Produce children... I was trying, I was trying to be a little meh about it. Yeah. I guess you're, you're parading them around, whether you're a- Apparently... grandparent or a parent.
• 2:14
Yeah. I mean, it was cool and, and whatever. Um, Downer was hilarious. Ran into, uh, Kenny and Jovan- Uh-oh... and Brenda and Dinardo.
• 2:24
He had the bamboo, and some jackass, like, like stood on it, like stood on the frame while it was like... Uh, uh, it was something that was just unimaginable to see anybody doing to anybody. Was it lying on the ground?
• 2:37
No. Oh. It was on a bike rack, and we were like right by it. I, I don't know. I, hmm. Wow. And, and then somebody else- Blasphemous...
• 2:44
and well, and then somebody [laughs] because we were right by the bike racks, and somebody just kind of brushed in and, and Kenny like really hulked out. He was ready to throw down.
• 2:54
[laughs] I mean, Kenny's a- Because, because the guy stood on Dinardo's bike? Yeah. It was the same crew, and they just kind of like, "Well, are you gonna charge me?" He's like, "Well, no," dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
• 3:02
And yeah, I've, no, I've never seen that. Good on Kenny. Yeah. It was interesting. Way to go, dude. It was fun. It was fun. That's a little intimidating character. It, it, that in his, in his char- yeah, exactly.
• 3:10
I'm sure he can, he can be. Yeah. It was fun. It, it was interesting to watch. Not if you know him. It's like, yeah, Kenny's not gonna do anything.
• 3:17
That whole, well, but if you know Kenny- But if you don't know him, yeah, he, he could be-... you've never seen him like that. Yeah, I could see- It could be like, uh, whoa. Yeah. This is different. Bruce Banner action.
• 3:24
Right? Exactly. I mean, yeah. Yeah. 'Cause he normally talks his way. [laughs] "Okay. Why don't we just all be calm and clean, dun, dun, dun, and just talk it out?" And no, he was just ready to throw. It was funny. Wow.
• 3:34
[laughs] I, I was like, "Wow." [laughs] And I went to the, I, I just went to go get a couple beers, check on my bike, and came back, and that went down. I was like in the aftermath of it. Wow. Like, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
• 3:46
If I had a bamboo bike, I'd be a little concerned. Mm-hmm. Well, wait a minute. [sighs] Dinardo has a fake bamboo bike, okay? Isn't that your boss? What do you mean? It used to be your boss. Was my boss. Yeah.
• 3:58
The worst boss I've ever had. Okay. He knows that. I tell him- Fuck him... every time I see him. He's my cousin. Fuck Dinardo. No, he's got the- He's my cousin. He's my cousin. He's his cousin? Oh. [laughs] No.
• 4:07
I, Dinardo's- I meant that in the nicest way possible. [laughs] Wait, I'm gonna bring in last week's show to show that I listen. I'm just doing this. [laughs] This is- Putting everybody-...
• 4:14
Dinardo's bamboo Kickstarter fail. Oh. Oh. Okay. So this was like a company that decided to like shred bamboo and then glue it together in some sort of symmetrical pattern. Oh.
• 4:31
And for the record, Dinardo already broke that thing once or maybe twice. Yeah, but nobody- Oh. Dude, I'm not gonna- But I agree, I agree...
• 4:37
I'm not gonna, like, on any bike in the world- I saw him yesterday on the bike trail, by the way... where I would be like, "Oh, hey, can I just stand on it?" So it doesn't look like bamboo at all.
• 4:42
It does not look like a bamboo bike at all. Oh, forget it then. It's just got like portions. Like, like how- It's got like an octagonal shape of the frame... like how, hmm, like how Boo bikes had like- Like the same-...
• 4:51
had that like section of bamboo. Well, Boo- Right... was better, yeah. But it wouldn't have a section. Sort of. And Wheel & Sprocket had a bamboo company for a minute that was- Right... like that same process. Sprocket?
• 5:02
I know I've seen them. They're, they're full bamboo. Yeah. Yeah, like a Boo- For the most part... a Boo was bamboo. Boo was really bamboo. But it was hollowed out and was still epoxied. Kelfy.
• 5:09
It's, it's- Kelfy still makes- It's, uh- They have- I don't know. I mean- Okay. Everybody- It's harder to make thin- The point of the story is getting lost. Do not step on somebody else's- Somebody else's bamboo bike...
• 5:20
bike frame, period, any bike frame- Right... while it's leaning and locked to a bike rack in general. That's true. Especially when you don't know them at all. Exactly. Give me a break, you know?
• 5:29
That's why everything was like- Get permission for something like that. It, it wasn't, it wasn't a full moon. [laughs] It was not. I, I was like, "Well, why the, uh, why?" Yeah, that's coming up pretty soon here.
• 5:39
Yeah, that, uh, yeah. Uh, right on. S- so- So there's the toad... so that was, yeah. [laughs] I, I only went to one. I went to Bay View. And the kids in, uh, Lunds had the v- video of the crash corner. Without kids.
• 5:52
Without kids. It was pros in the rain sliding into the curb a lot. That was good, yeah. Ooh. Yeah. There was quite a bit of- It's good stuff... sliding and getting up and probably- Wow...
• 6:01
because it was, it was raining, so- Yeah. Oh. Because normally they, like the kids go that same- If only they were riding 45s... that same hill. Yeah, maybe.
• 6:09
Kids just get freaked out, and they just like wobble, speed- Yeah... and like freak and ah, boom. I mean, it's-[laughs] I don't know. It's horrible and funny- Well, Greg and I caught Bayview-...
• 6:20
to watch at the same time. I- Yeah. Sven and I caught Bayview Race. The way you were hurt. Yeah, that was a, I, it was an interesting event.
• 6:26
I mean, that's a pretty cool course because at, at, at the m- the main part of it there's, like, two different...
• 6:34
They're going that way and then they're going that way, and you're kind of in the middle of them if you wanna be and- Yeah. Did they have the, uh- It's-... bleachers outside of, uh, Tonic? Or I mean, whatever it is now.
• 6:42
Mm, no. Not Tonic, no. Not Tonic. MK or MK Brewing. Whatever. Uh, there was a lot, it was a lot of people in a small space. But- That was, that was- I didn't get a chance to make it out... we, we stood
• 6:52
courtside, if you will. Yeah. Trackside, and it was fine. Yeah. Was there Adrian? Uh, no. We did not see Adrian. No, the only Fucan Adrian- People. Uh, there was people there. We saw Greg Hong.
• 7:05
Greg and Dave- Hong, Dave Laurel... and all those people. Uh, so that was, that was, now it's done. Done. It's, it's all done. That was- They won...
• 7:13
so that was nine or 10 days of short course criterium racing, and I think they mixed in, like, road racing for different age groups that, like, might've been the National Road Racing Championship. Mm.
• 7:26
But now we have the Tour de France coming up here. Uh-huh. [laughs] Starting on Saturday. Oh. [laughs] So if you got your, uh, your Peacock, you can watch every single race. I just have the Apple. Oh. Every single stage.
• 7:39
Have you been to France? And I do. What? Have you been to France? I'm not allowed in France. [laughs] You haven't. Have you been to France? Oh, yeah. [laughs] I fucking love France.
• 7:46
Oh, yeah, I, I- You can't get a bad meal in France, for the record. No. It's freaking impossible. Go into the shittiest dive bar you've ever been to, and if they're serving food, it's going to rock your world.
• 7:58
Uh- Happened to me more times than I can remember Were you ever there during the Tour de France? The fog, rah. Were you ever there? The French onion. Uh, what's that? Were you there in July for the Tour de France?
• 8:07
Uh, I have never been there for the Tour. I was there- Did-... in July once, but not for the Tour de France... God, that'd be cool. Didn't, uh, Peewee, wasn't, like- Always...
• 8:13
one of his things, like, like a, like a couple weeks after the Tour de France would, like, do the same route? Uh, I think they would- Like, take a group and, and, or like certain sections...
• 8:23
yeah, maybe not the, not the entire route. They would do the, some of the classic climbs and stuff, and, and I think that they would see- Oh, thanks... a portion of the race. Right.
• 8:31
And whether they did that before or saw the race- Like, those parts... or saw part of the race and did it after- Those parts... but yeah, he certainly was a- Yeah. I, I, I remember- He is-...
• 8:37
I remember him yapping about that... a Tour de France aficionado. The most impressive part about all of that is they ride on cobblestones. Oh, really? Sometimes. Yeah. Not, I mean, not always. Sometimes.
• 8:46
I love skinny tires. But yeah, but when you're, when you are riding on cobblestones on skinny tires, you are beating yourself to a pulp. They don't have skinny tires anymore. Well... [sighs] It's, they're much wider.
• 8:55
How old do you have to be? Much wider. It's hovercraft technology. What are they riding now, like 38s? 32 to 38, I think. It, like- Yeah, they're riding wider...
• 9:01
it sort of depends on the, the- And I hear low and behold it's better. Yeah. You can, you can do your, um- I'm surprised they even go 32s. I bet 38s. 38, no, 38s even. 38s? Yeah. Uh, they'll go up.
• 9:11
It depends on, like- Wow... what the... Because now they have gravel stages. Oh. See, gravel's, I don't know if you- I did not realize they had-...
• 9:18
if you knew this, but gravel's a thing and all the companies wanna sell gravel bikes, so they have gravel stages. Wow. Uh, the Critérium de Dauphiné or maybe the Vuelta or something had, like, a bunch of gravel.
• 9:31
It was, like, more than you'd think. Ridiculous. Ridiculous. So yeah, it's, it's, it's boys riding bicycles. I like, I like your statement as there should no, there should no longer be road bikes. Yeah. Yeah. It's bikes.
• 9:44
It's just bikes. It's bikes. But marketing wins. Yeah, and you know, I mean- Those 21-inch tires, like, just- It's, it- It's the dog days... and I'll always go back to this- Pop 'em both... right...
• 9:56
if bikes- Shred your rims... is short for bicycles, shouldn't mics be short for motorcycles? [laughs] It's fine with me. Oh. Ooh. That's a tongue twister. I know. But they're not really motorcycles.
• 10:07
They're engine cycles. Engine cycles. Engine cycles. Then they'd be yikes. [laughs] Yikes. Yikes, yikes. So did you start your, uh, fantasy team yet? I started my research of the fantasy team today.
• 10:17
I signed up for the, the, the account- I was looking at who was riding what... to be able to get my team together. I was looking at who was riding what, and then I was like- Yeah... I looked at that first- Fantasy-...
• 10:27
and then-... Fantasy Tour de France-ish... and then the first one I saw- Oh... was, like, UAE, and I'm like, "I can't j- No, I'm, I'm gonna be in- I can't, I can't go all in for UAE, man...
• 10:33
I'm gonna be an EF, Education First guy just because- Yeah, you mean Arab Emirates, you mean? It's a, it's a- There's a Trek. Yeah.
• 10:39
Yeah, there's- There's somebody rolling Treks, so I'm, I think I'm probably gonna hit them... Trek-Lidel. Yeah. I, I, yeah, EF is a, basically an American team, I believe so. Oh, oh, oh. It's already here?
• 10:48
I think so, 'cause we're talking about the Tour de France and all these, uh, ascents. And all these climbs. [bell ringing] Ascents. Ascents.
• 10:55
[laughs] There, there is a link in the show notes if you wanna play the- Yeah... Tour de France- If I figure out-... Fantasy League game thing... if I figure out how to put it together, then like- This shit's real, man.
• 11:06
This is- Tony brought the, uh, Tony brought the beer today, so- Someone spent good money on these... we'll, we'll, uh, we'll listen to him. 7.5% double dry hopped hazy IPA with Michigan cashmere- Michigan...
• 11:20
Citra, and lemon lime hops. And I have to tell you, whoever the hell c- decided to name this lemon lime hops is spot on, 'cause this shit tastes like 7 Up- [laughs]...
• 11:32
but with a heavy hitting- It's kind of smoothie a little bit. It's super smooth. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, crisp. Like these smoothie beers that have that kinda thickness to it. It's kinda getting me like that.
• 11:41
Isn't that, uh, the guy? [laughs] Um, Ron told me to try this as I was at the- Crisp... at the brewery on Sunday. Who is the pretty James Bond guy? He's like, "You should try this. You might like it."
• 11:50
Is that the main brewer? Ron's the head brewer. Owner? Yeah. Yeah. And owner, yeah. Good for him.
• 11:54
He's- I was actually- He basically, he basically says that because they run out of beer so fast he has to get you on the next one. Maybe. I was showing him a picture of a Bring a Trailer
• 12:05
1969 Impala in a super rare color with a 409 and a four speed on the floor. Oh, my God. I'm like, "You gotta check this out." Geez. And we both geeked about it, and then he commented, he's like
• 12:19
And my Golf R is still way faster. Yeah. My- Yep, true. That's- My what? That's- His Golf R. Yeah, that's like- Oh, his... Is that a four? VW, whatever. Yeah, he's got the- Well, I don't know.
• 12:28
Yeah, there's something about those. It's like a... It's, it's insane. They are nuts. But that, but that's like saying, um, my new Sony A7 whatever 3 blah blah blah is faster than a Nikon F3 from the olden times. Right.
• 12:42
True that. It's like, it's, it's apples to oranges. True that. You are apples and oranges. It's not, it's like- Yeah, that is the truth. But V8 muscle car gorgeousness- Yeah... that thing was cool.
• 12:49
That's w- that's what I'm talking about. The amount of weight, if you'd imagine, compare the two in terms of weight is, we're talking- Yeah. Oh, yeah... thousands of pounds different.
• 12:57
[laughs] Yeah, thousands of thou- [laughs] That engine probably weighed as much as his entire VW.
• 13:02
[laughs] So I don't know if anybody saw that yet, but we got past, uh, we got past the toad race in Bay View, and then we went to Devo. That, that yellow thing is part of one of their costumes. I was there too.
• 13:15
[laughs] What? Shut up. I wasn't with these guys, but I was there. Yeah. I was outside the perimeter- I would, uh-... and I saw and heard everything perfectly with my own- That's perfectly fine... with my own supply.
• 13:26
That would be fine. He was poaching from the... Yeah, that's a good stage to poach. 'Cause this was, you were not far from where I was standing. No. I was actually- 98, 98 decibels. 98 decibels. Yeah.
• 13:36
I could see the, uh- You, you had one- Multimedia... You didn't miss anything. I saw everything. You had two serious advantages. And the multimedia was awesome. Yeah. It was so rocking. Yes.
• 13:46
You had two serious advantages. It's just, what an experience. Well, f- kinda two. Well- One- I had a porta potty... one, you didn't have to pay to get in. Yes. Thank you, Greg. Yeah.
• 13:54
'Cause I didn't have to pay to get in either. I, I, I could've. Two, you could not possibly have had worse beer than Greg and I drank. Oh, my God. Whatever the flying fuck that- Line, Leinenkugel's?
• 14:05
That Leinenkugel's- That was terrible... aborted. The tropical one? Yeah, hazy IPA, the 19.2. That was, I drank one of those. That was... And okay, so for the record- That might've been my undoing, actually...
• 14:14
I ran into- If memory serves- Wait, I ran into my friend who works for Miller on Sunday, and I'm like, "That was the worst beer I ever drank." And she's like, "That's a Summer Shanty that they're trying to add shit to."
• 14:26
Yeah. Shandy. Summer Shandy. Shandy. Whatever the fuck. Shandy. It's horrible. It's fucking shanty. Yeah. I'm like, it should be shanty. Fuck that beer. But it was- Can we use that fours?
• 14:35
Yeah, you can use F words- Yeah... all the fucking time. Well, fuck, fuck that beer. I mean, let's not get all- It was- Let's not get all rambunctious with them. It was so bad. Yeah, like old school. Cock, balls.
• 14:44
It also helps- Yeah, don't have to celebrate it for it... that was the jaunty head of the Australians. The other fun part about going to Devo as two old men is Greg and I get in- And Wendy... and Wendy.
• 14:57
But before Wendy, there's a VIP section. Your wife? Nice. And Greg's like- Rocking... Greg, we both have a beer. Greg's like, "I'm just walking into VIP." I'm like, "I'll follow you." Mm.
• 15:08
And no one gave us, like, a second thought. We both walked right in, but then we got inside and we're like, "Oh, shit. We're gonna need another beer." Oh. And we can't leave. Oh.
• 15:19
And then Sydney shows up with our VIP passes. Yeah, my daughter was the stage manager at that stage, so it made it- Well, hey...
• 15:26
I was like, "Can you come out and get us some silks because we can't get out of the VIP area?" Oh, man. She's like, "How'd you get in there?" I'm like, "Your security was kinda lax." We walked. So we walked in. Hey.
• 15:35
But now we can't go out and get our beer. [laughs] Can you get us a beer? Yeah. Stage manager daughter. I doubt Sydney listens to this, but if Sydney's listening to this, thank you so much.
• 15:44
I, it was such a great fucking show. Yeah. She needs to help us, help, help us get our- That was like-... get our listener numbers up there... like, to be that close to Devo and, I mean, that set start to finish-
• 15:56
Unreal... unreal. Yeah. That was very good. And then as I'm going to see them- Much better than I was expecting... that afternoon, my coworker comes to my office. I'm like, "Yeah, I'm going to see Devo up front."
• 16:05
And he looks at me, and he's 35 years old. He's like, "Who's Devo?" Oh, my God. I'm like- Well-... "Go back to your fucking desk right now." You're a little young. Yeah...
• 16:13
"Look up Mark Mothersbaugh, 'cause you're a gamer. And if you're a gamer, you damn well know who he is, and therefore you should know who Devo is." Right. Yeah. And then he responded back, like, 10 minutes later.
• 16:24
He's like, "Oh, holy shit, dude." I'm sorry. Yeah. I'm sorry. He's like, "Holy cow." He's like, "He's done everything." I mean, have you seen that Simpsons episode- He did the soundtrack to Happy Gilmore...
• 16:30
uh, with Whip It, uh, Licorice Whips? Yep. Whip It, Licorice Whips. He did, he did Happy Gilmore, of all things. But did you st- Life Aquatic was- You, you probably didn't notice-... was Steve Zissou...
• 16:39
the people pour out of there after they played Whip It. Oh, yeah. Why? It was like, are you, you, fuck. You, you- Just go. Yeah. Please leave. Yeah, exactly. That was funny. 'Cause- That was funny live...
• 16:48
the rest of the show was so epic. It, dude, uh, Bea- that Beautiful World, that, that just rocked. Oh, yeah, yeah. Top. That just- Overall, an excellent show. Oh, my God. It was absolutely an excellent show.
• 17:01
I've seen so many shows, and that- And the best part is I broke my rule of not going to Summerfest- In my top 10 for sure... but I only had to walk, like, 50 yards into Summerfest. Oh, I don't have that rule. No.
• 17:11
Oh, I do. No. I can't stand Summerfest. I love going to the Wailers. You could stand that day of Summerfest, though, so now he's- Are you a fan of The Faint? Yeah, they're all right.
• 17:19
Oh, I fucking love The F- I saw them just destroy it at Summerfest, probably 10 years ago now, but- Well, 10 years ago is a different Summerfest... I like to go for- Yeah, totally. Totally different Summerfest.
• 17:27
I like to go for the Wailers anytime I can. I mean, I- Anytime the Wailers are playing, I'm there. Oh, yeah. I can understand. I saw the Foo Fighters when they were new there. Well, dude- That was different...
• 17:36
Morris Day and the t- motherfucking Time were there all the time. They used to always play. Yeah. And the B-52s- Yeah, Fishbone... used to always play. Bobbie 52s.
• 17:43
There's still one more week of Summerfest, one more weekend. And War. I, they- War was there a lot. War would play a lot. Yeah. Honestly, the funny thing, I still haven't once looked- And TBA. TBA. TBA was all over.
• 17:52
They were everywhere. They were everywhere. On those early- Yeah, those early releases... Earth, Wind and Fire would always be there too. [laughs] But, uh, honestly, the f- I have not looked at the schedule once.
• 18:05
I just had someone tell me, "Oh, yeah, Devo's playing," and I went with that person. Dead. That's- I have not looked at the schedule. That's the way you do it, baby...
• 18:12
so if there, does, do, do you guys know anything this week that would be worth- Social D. Social Distortion. Oh. You know? Are you guys going? Friday night. Maybe. It's my birthday. I've gotta go.
• 18:22
If it's your birthday, I'm going with you. [laughs] I most likely will go. I'm gonna go then. It's one of those- Because Ben was- Born on the Fourth of July. Uh, and Bully opens at 8:00 And Bully's way better- Mm...
• 18:37
in my opinion. Well, I, I don't- Yeah... I don't have a past history with Bully. I got a past history with- [laughs]... fucking White Noise.
• 18:43
So it'll be- Yeah, you still, you still carrying a grudge for 30 years with him I'm not carrying the grudge, I just ha- am aware- Just-... of my own grudge.
• 18:48
[laughs] It isn't, y- y- I go to see Social D just to hear him sing Ring of Fire. Sure. That's the worst song they do. I enjoy that. I don't care. Yeah. It's the best song they do. You know me and Christopher- Stop it...
• 18:58
r- got, got on our Krampus' and we rode down to th- see Primus. Crema. Yeah. Creme pie? That, that would be good. Oh, it was Primus, and then I, honestly I feel bad that I l- I didn't- Oh, this last one?...
• 19:12
like Tool, but I'm not like- Oh, uh, Perfect Circle... I don't know everything about all this, but they were fucking awesome. That s- s- Like Perfect Circle and then Puscifer. Yeah. Yep. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rad.
• 19:20
Yeah, they're, Puscifer's great. Rad. I, I- I wanted to check that one out... I di- I never heard a single song, but I loved everything. It, but, but, but of course I had never had a chance to see Primus.
• 19:30
Uh, just sitting behind the BMO? Oh. Yeah. Riding down? No, no, this was at the, uh- Oh... Marcus. This was in the Mar- Marcus. Yeah. Yeah. But were you in the facility? What are you, are you killing raisins over there?
• 19:42
Or just hanging out, uh, in the park? Oh, we, we bought tickets. We lost track of evil. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, oh, I was gonna say, no, like- The raisins are all falling over...
• 19:47
the BMO stage and Marcus, if you just sit, it- It wasn't Summerfest though. No, but nothing wrong there. It was Italian Fest. Sure. And you couldn't get over by the BMO. Festa Italiana. No. Or maybe you could.
• 19:59
You could on a bike. So- Maybe you could... yeah. You're right- 'Cause it, 'cause it's a state park... 'cause you could sit outside. Right. It's a state park, baby. No, you could go right... I know what you mean.
• 20:06
I know my poaching. I know my poaching. I know what you mean, but the tickets are like 30 bucks. Yeah. And guess what it isn't? It was so worth it. Poaching, is it? Oh, I- Uh-... I've done poaching.
• 20:15
So you mentioned- [laughs] You mentioned Chris. I did wanna talk about you, 'cause you and Chris have been- I was trying to get him on th- I tried to get him- You-... to come and talk to me...
• 20:22
you, you guys have been riding quite a bit. Oh, yeah. And are you doing Minooka a lot? We did just yesterday. Is that the place where you're doing the most riding? Um, just because it's convenient.
• 20:33
I did hit, uh, the, uh, Tosa the other day, which was just fine, but one thing I, you guys don't know about is, uh, I'd had to go up to the Twin Cities for a funeral three weeks ago now, and I went up to Cuyuna. Aha.
• 20:48
Ooh. Really? I, that must be the most well-marked, well-funded, what, it just... I'm telling you, y- you ride around this really nice loop that gives you access to every featured loop. Hm.
• 21:05
And they're all incredibly well-described. You're gonna see photos of the actual features on the signs- Wow... when you pass them. That's, that's cool. And the- I haven't been there for years... it was just phenomenal.
• 21:20
I can't wait to go back there again. It's like the old iron mining area. Right. Yeah, so- And it shows. And, and there's beautiful lakes... it's got like the red, the red mud, the red, the red- Okay... red, red dirt.
• 21:29
And the amount of altitude you're able to achieve, very well planned out. It, it's not a ball buster. I couldn't believe all of a sudden I was just overlooking this lake from way up high.
• 21:42
[laughs] Um, on my way back I stopped in the Twin Cities. I went to the Lynx home opener against Dallas Wings.
• 21:49
Uh, Dallas Wings has Paige Bueckers, who was the number one draft pick from last year, who like- Are we talking WNBA now? Oh, yeah. [laughs] WNBA.
• 21:56
So she went to, she went to high school just 20 minutes outside of the Twin Cities, and she's the mega superstar, and it was just littered with her high school colors at the game. Oh, cool. It was- That's cool...
• 22:08
it was sold out, you know. But then I crept on down to La Crosse and hung out with some friends there, and I... Well, [laughs] I will tell a story that is pretty, pretty something. Uh,
• 22:20
so I, I only had one day that I thought to ride some of these La Crosse trails, okay? I get at it for 10 minutes, I fucking sharted my pants. [laughs] What? For real. And I just like- How very lunzian of you.
• 22:35
[laughs] And, and I, and I just said, "Fuck it." I kept riding for like an hour after that. Just grease? Just- [laughs]... got so uncomfortable I went back to my car and I said, "Fuck it."
• 22:44
Like I really wanted to see this other area, 'cause it was my only day. [laughs] I said, "Fuck it." I happen to have like a little bit of toilet paper. My cars have these huge doors. I'm in a parking lot.
• 22:54
There's people everywhere. [laughs] And I just got between the doors. I g- give a good wipe and stuff. I went and rode for another hour and 20 minutes after that. Nice. And- Not giving up...
• 23:06
and, and thank goodness I had like a towel to put under my butt when I drove back to my friend's house because- So you didn't, you didn't leave your shorts under the bridge like Craig? [laughs] No. Like we've seen. No.
• 23:18
I have- Well, that was the thing... my underwear cost 22, $23 a piece, so- On the way here- I don't leave a- any of those behind... as I was crossing- [laughs]...
• 23:25
as I was crossing the river- But let me tell you, it was fucking gnarly... all of a sudden I saw a woman, and I was like, I'm like, "What is she doing?" It was- And it was like just in the shadows- Oh...
• 23:34
and she's doing this. And yeah, she had like- Oh, man... uh, skirt down to here- Shaking one loose?... and just like doing the towel. Dude, if you have Instagram- I'm... Oh, it was amazing... oh my God.
• 23:46
People shitting in- So it actually, I, I mean, like-... grocery stores and shit. It's a big thing-... it hits very close... and like, why are people doing this? But they're doing it all the time.
• 23:54
I mean, it's a hot day out. Runners. Well, that's- Yeah. Well, that's-... that's a wonderful reason, but if you're just in a grocery store and you wanna shit on the floor, that's j- goddamn disgusting.
• 24:04
That's pretty wrong. That's very wrong. I think we gotta- Yeah, this is like an Only- I think the shit train is leaving the station... yeah, yeah, this is like, yeah, this is turning into an OnlyFans. [laughs] Right?
• 24:14
Not my OnlyFans. Well, sheiss, that, that should be the theme of the podcast. I'm gonna sh- I'm gonna sit on the, I'm gonna sit on the muffins again.
• 24:20
Yeah, I did, I did not, I went to Port Washington and rode the beach the other day, and I did not shart, unfortunately. And how was the beach? [laughs] But it would've been fine 'cause there was nobody there. Yeah.
• 24:30
Uh, North Beach, which it goes from the filtration plant north- Through North Lake Park and all that My favorite, my favorite place to ride. Yeah, and but I, so I go there, I'm like, "Oh, this is gonna be great.
• 24:40
It's the middle of the week. Nobody's gonna be out there." [laughs] I can't get to the... I can't get there because there's construction at the [smacks lips] uh, filtration plant. Oh.
• 24:48
And I'm like, "What's going on with this?"
• 24:50
So I went all the way around, which you just wanna go up to the top of the hill, which is like a quarter mile away, but you have to make like this huge loop all the way through the town to get up there. Mm.
• 24:59
So I'm like, "I'm gonna come at it from the other side." Nope, road's closed there too, so I'm like, "You know what? I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go up to, um, Harrington Beach and see what's up that way."
• 25:08
So I drove up there. That's another seven or eight miles north. I get out on the road where you can park near the water, which is just outside the park. Mm-hmm. I look down the beach and there's like 100 people.
• 25:19
I'm like, "What?" [laughs] And I don't like riding when there's a bunch of people around. No. And it's never been like that. Right. So I'm thinking- Oh, Jesus... "Well, you know what?
• 25:26
I bet, why don't I just go back into Port Washington and park in town and just ride over there, 'cause I'm sure I can get through somehow." Uh-huh. Which I was able to do finally.
• 25:37
And, uh, there were like a couple people on the beach, 'cause nobody else could get there either maybe. Wow. Some lady walked down the stairs from the top of the bluff and she was down there.
• 25:45
But, uh, I got up to Sucker Creek, which is, uh, you know, a pretty good turnaround when we ride up that way. [laughs] And it was, it, there is so much- Great name for a creek. Yeah Sucker Creek.
• 25:52
There's so much beach up there. The, the- Yeah... the narrowest spot was probably 60 feet. The widest spot, a couple hundred feet. Wow. Tons of tons and tons of sand. That's rad. Um- That's what you want...
• 26:03
so far our- That's not where, that's not where I, uh, I turtled. [laughs] Um, yeah, well, so- No... because there had been a bunch of rain already- That was Harrington... recently. Yeah, maybe it was Harrington.
• 26:13
That was, that was Harrington. There were a lot of little riv- rivlets- Harrington... coming down from the, uh, from the bluff where it w- there were several water crossings.
• 26:20
And Sucker Creek- Sh- I could have crossed it- Scared... and kept going, but it w- [laughs] I had already been out there for a while and it was 90 degrees, and I'm like- Yeah... it's, this isn't that time.
• 26:28
Time to turn around and relax. Right. But, um, I could also see an, like another quarter mile up, it looks like it closes out. We should get past Sucker Creek next time. Sucker.
• 26:37
But I think for our August 9th full moon beach ride, it's gonna be from North Lake Park to Sucker Creek and back. Awesome. Sucker.
• 26:45
Which should take, you know, it's about an hour of riding time and, and then sitting around and goofing off- Drinking beer and stuff... and whatever, whatever. But it'll be fun.
• 26:52
That's like the first, uh, first week of August, correct, Ish? August nine. Nine. Nine. Nine time. Which coincidentally enough is my anniversary day. [laughs] And it's one month- Close to my birthday...
• 27:06
before my birthday. One month before my birthday. Uh, I'm not done with that one yet. Not quite one month. Oh, oh, you're the- Sorry, I'm, I'm taking these... you're the, uh, the- The nine... the tab collector.
• 27:12
I have like- Sorry, I didn't think you were done... 100 of those at home for you. Yeah. Oh, Rachel. I've been saving them ever since- Please give them-... she showed me that... Rachel from, uh, Ocean Bath.
• 27:18
Oh, you're the best. I'm like, "Oh, no, let me have to save all these for Sam." Tab collectors. You're the best. You're the best around. So- Nothing gonna ever keep you down...
• 27:26
hey, you guys remember, I know, I know we've talked about this on the show before. Nothing. A, a thing called, a little thing called Frost Bike? I do remember that. That, that QVP does.
• 27:34
Isn't that the same week as- It's the same week of everything... Frost Bite? I thought we did. Okay. So they- Oh, no, that's the Shiver away. They fucked up...
• 27:41
they have not done it since the pandemic, and now they set it for, it's like the 26th or the 28th of February. Guess what else is on the 28th of February? Global Fat Bike Day? The f- no, that's in December. Okay.
• 27:54
The Fat Bike Birkie. Oh, yeah. Almost the same, but better. Well, it's 1,000 people that ride fat bikes that are, you know, and a bunch of them are- In the mud... bunch of them are in the industry.
• 28:02
Well, they, that's why they're moving it earlier in the season- Okay... to have more chance- Snow... of having snow. So they- Very smart... so they moved the actual Birkie ski race earlier. Wow.
• 28:12
Consequently, the- It's been a nightmare... Fat Bike Birkie... Last year wasn't bad for the Birkie or the Fat Bike Birkie. Oh, they did pull it off?
• 28:18
It was better than the couple previous years, but now it's, it's a, it's a, a week or two weeks, depending on how you look at the calendar, earlier. So hopefully they have more snow. Right.
• 28:28
But still, is that like n- is that brain dead to go like, "Well, we could do it the week before and not conflict with the Fat Bike Birkie." Oh, do they not know, though? Maybe they didn't know.
• 28:37
Maybe they're just that b- brain dead. I don't know. Maybe. Maybe. They've done a lot of dumb stuff lately. Did anyone respond- I don't know... why you're doing it? I haven't been paying that much attention to it.
• 28:46
I just said, "That's, you know, it's a freaking bad call, guys." You know? Yeah. They have, have half a brain about what else is going on in your industry. Well, they won't make- Of course-...
• 28:53
any money doing it that way... well, I don't think they care about fat bikes anymore. This is the sound of modern industry. Yeah. This is the sound. These are the voices. Poopy people. These are the voices.
• 29:02
Oh, I fucking love that song. D- d- d- Industry. Did you guys- They were just in Madison, which I missed, but that's fine...
• 29:08
did you guys see when I posted the, uh, the video of Gary Fisher saying how fat bikes are the, the shit and they're gonna be 20% of m- No... of, of the mountain bike industry? This was like 2014. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
• 29:19
It's the greatest video ever. He is so energetic, and he's so enthusiastic. And now he has 36-inch wheel, isn't he, or 32? No, 32. But I wanna hear him say, "That's gonna be 20% of the, the..."
• 29:30
[laughs] I wanna see if he's right about that one. It can't be because- [laughs]... there's a good portion of us short people that can't ride- Yeah, but-... a 32-inch wheel bike...
• 29:39
theoretically- Short people- I wanna try that... theoretically- Short people could- I'll try it. I haven't tried it... short people could wear, could ride- Um-... the penny-farthing...
• 29:45
and people can ride unicycles and do things- Yeah... harder things. Yeah. Yes. Yes, Michael. Who brought the 36er to, or thir- For sure... was it- Spinner... Spinner brought that 32 or is that a 36? 36. Spinner. Spinner.
• 29:57
Now there's a name I haven't heard- But that's not-... for some time... that's not the same- In a long time... that's not the same thing as a performance fat bike. Of a star. Right. I've gotta get us over there.
• 30:06
But during that ride, it was hilarious to see Berta riding the 36-inch diameter tires. Yeah. She screamed- Oh, Berta can do whatever... for help. Oh, yeah?
• 30:17
Like, well, she couldn't touch the ground, come hell or high water. Of course not. But who, who cares? So Sam had to catch her, strong man Sam. You need like a picnic table or something- So she could get off...
• 30:24
to get started or something. Right. You know? And- So- But she rocked it hard. It was great. I'm sure. Let's, just- She would...
• 30:30
let's touch on Gary Fisher just one more second, because he says that they've designed this for people as small as 5'7". With the 32-inch wheel That's gotta be like a t- is it a step-over frame? I don't know.
• 30:44
Step-through frame? I'm just saying, if 29ers were good- 30- Remember, remember 26-inch wheels?
• 30:50
I mean [laughs] Those are obsolete according to, you could ask Bullman, those aren't, those are gone Well, unless it's on, unless it's on a fat bike and- No, those aren't gone too, if you ask Bullman...
• 30:57
um, and then the 29er, which I al- I always thought was as, I don't, that was as big as I wanna go. Yeah. Now 32s, I'm thinking, I don't know.
• 31:06
No, I- Certainly, I'm not investing in a new frame right now, thank you very much...
• 31:10
I'd still like to see what it feels like Yeah, I'd give them a go Yeah, 29ers roll over shit Well, it's- 29ers are fun for urban assault But it's, yeah 29 by three bur- like- Oh, yeah...
• 31:18
I can take on anything this city has to offer I could see a 32 or a 36 climbing a rock fast 32 is- Yeah... yeah, what about like downhill?
• 31:24
With plenty of clearance You can roll uphill is what I'm thinking Yeah, right, right? With plenty of clearance, no frame bob Just so you can get- You get your gyroscopic effect...
• 31:31
technical rocks and stuff, you just blast right through it I get that, but whoa And the clunker is 27.5, so it's the baby fat zone. Mm-hmm.
• 31:40
Where i- I don't mind that except I'm not that tall Whoa, that's very mango-y I'm not that tall, so when I have to put a foot down with the coaster brake, I kinda, ha ha ha ha ha. That's much, much more- It's not bad...
• 31:50
this is much more fruity than the other- No, I, I ju- I jump into the, uh- Beer... I don't,
• 31:55
like, getting my bone zone- My 27.5 plus, uh- Top two I still have to finish like half of this, which is- I, I, I went out to Moab or did Moab, I did Fruita, I did, uh- Sex packets...
• 32:06
uh, whatever the, uh- Is this Digital Underground? You got some Digital Underground... Grand Junction So were you in like, uh, uh, Cortez and stuff, like Colorado?
• 32:13
Uh, um, I never was there, but I, you know- Durango-ish before you- But I remember Colin saying, like, that the group was really blown away at what I did on the bike. I mean, I did- What am I looking at?...
• 32:25
the gnarliest shit- Bamboo with, uh-... possible on that bike Oh, rad, pencils... without even a really good mountain set of tires on it Clever... it was more, you know, it was those Chronicles by the- Of Narnia...
• 32:38
Maxxis. Is that what you have? The what? Is that what you have that's all wore out on your bike? The Chronic. No, those are actually still the Chupacabras- Of Narnia... from way back then Oh, okay.
• 32:48
Yeah, that's a long time ago They've really held up. On the, uh, uh- But I just decided to go something a little gnarlier on the front.
• 32:56
Right on 'Cause the only thing I ever have problems with is washing out the front on situations. And, and I noticed the trend is people are having more knobby tires on the front. And, and maybe a little bit wider. Yeah.
• 33:13
And, and, yeah. And you'll see it will look a lot wider. [laughs] Steer is important. Are you thinking it'll fit in that fork? It, it, I think it will. The R1, it's the fancy- Christopher says-...
• 33:20
fanciest carbon fiber rock shuck... Christopher says it will. Right on. Well, that's good. Now, Christopher's, it didn't fit on Christopher's fork, but it's because of the bridge. But he said it.
• 33:28
The bridge was hitting it, not the width. Gotcha. But if it doesn't work- I think, brother... if it doesn't work, then fuck it. We'll f- we'll finger it out. Wow. Uh, all right then. The Chronic.
• 33:40
Well, heck in, hey, we, we, we got through this show somehow, Tony's blue hair notwithstanding. We'll see you 11 more shows I'm beautiful You be as beautiful the rest of this walnut I am going to, is that cerulean blue?
• 33:52
Which now looks like a- Cerulean, cerulean blue... whatever Cleon decided to do for me... it's like a claw or something You're a finisher. You finish what you
• 33:58
start Cornflower blue Michael, the reason I have this hair color is 'cause I have to deploy the new chancellor of UWM's computer.
• 34:05
And I'm setting expectations right off the bat that I'm showing up at his house- Oh, Christ... with bright blue hair. Oh, thank you, actually. Like- As if that's the UW colors or something... it's not.
• 34:16
It's more I wanna set the expectation that- You need the navy blue... you're dealing with freaks. Oh. There you go. Yeah.
• 34:22
Like, I will fix your shit as long as you're willing to work with me, and I look like a weirdo because- Where did he come from again? He came from Stevens Point? I don't know. I think so. I don't know.
• 34:30
Get your nose tattooed or something. You know? There's, there's high praise for him, though. Oh, like get a, get a mustache tattooed on your mustache or something.
• 34:37
You could- No, you get the mustache- Then you really show it off... no, on the upper lip Oh, there you go, upper lip Hello Or lower. That's Jim Huber, man. That was the Riverwest 24. Man. Oh, he did?
• 34:47
Well, let's get, let's get this- It's a mustache... we'll continue this, uh, conversation offline. Mystical. It's time to go. Yeah, it is. We're gonna get out of here.
• 34:54
Thank you very much, uh, Tony- Why you play, play the song? Thank you very much, uh, Sam D. Thank you very much, JK. Always a pleasure. Thank you, D Go I love fine people. Yeah.
• 35:06
  [rock music]
