- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Hi everyone and welcome to Books and Box Office Besties.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: We're so happy to be here today.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: I'm Wendy, and this is my co-host Kim.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Hi, everybody.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: We're going to be discussing Verity by Colleen Hoover, but first we have a disclaimer.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: There's going to be major spoilers.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: If you still want to read this book and not have any spoilers, you might want to pause it and come back for a good time afterwards.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: We have a fun recap and a lively discussion to get to.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Also, I want to add that we would love to hear from you.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Tell us your thoughts on Verity or just let us know what books you would like to hear about in the future or what you're reading.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: We're open to any suggestions and love feedback.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: You can follow us on Facebook at Books and Box Office Besties and on Instagram at Books and Box Office Besties.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: And we also have our Gmail up and running finally.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: So we're books and boxoffice besties at gmail.com.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, Kim, so did you want to start our little recap here?
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Well, before we start the recap, I am so excited to be here.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: I wanted to say hello again to all our besties out there.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And I just want to share my love of reading.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Why I like to read, you ask, probably the same reason why you like reading too, is to talk about your favorite books, your characters with other book lovers.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: It feels so good when you can tell somebody about a great book you just read.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like sharing the tea, and hopefully they spread the word.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Just to give you a little background about myself and Wendy here.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Wendy and I have been reading books for, oh my God, for a long, long time.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe a few decades plus a few years you could add in there.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: But the best part about sharing books is that Wendy and I will sit and we'll talk about it.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: And what's really interesting is sometimes we have completely two different views.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And I love that because it's kind of like I'll defend my character to her and say, well, of course not, or of course he did, or of course she did, or they deserved it, or whatever.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And then she'll share her side.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I have to admit, you know, hearing about something from somebody else's perspective gives you something to think about.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: But just the same, I'll take any of my characters to court and defend them.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: And now to get on with our books that we love, you can always listen to us at Books and Box Office Besties.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So also, over the years, it wasn't until late in life that actually my book passion has exploded.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: But I remember one day as kids, probably you were always the big book reader trying to encourage me to read.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: And I remember one time you gave me this book and you insisted that I read it.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: I don't remember the name of it, but the cover of it was patent leather shoes and a girl's feet.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And it had something to do with Catholic schools, I think.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Looking up a girl's dress.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: But um, do you remember that, Wend?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, I forgot all about that.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: That is so funny that you bring that up.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: I I'm gonna have to Google that book now to see if that's still out there.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know how I'll Google it, but you're right.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, do you know the title of it?
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: I know, but it did have something to do with Catholic school, and it was a humorous book.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: I remember it was written.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: And I think the patent leather shoes were so shiny, you could supposedly you could see up the girls' dresses.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: And I think that was part of in the book.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Now that I'm remembering, I mean, that was a long time ago.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I decades and decades.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Always tried to get people to read the books I love because I love sharing, you know, what I enjoy, and I want other people to enjoy it too.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that was a really great memory.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Thanks for reminding me.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: But at least you read the book.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I still have to read the book.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: But if you do find out the title, let me know.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, get you a copy.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Thanks, thanks.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: I'll hang on to it this time because I I don't know why, but that book, I can see the cover, it just haunts me and haunts me.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: I wonder if it's even in print still.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: If anybody knows what book we're talking about, come on, let us know.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: So, Wendy, when did you start reading?
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: When did your passion for books start developing, growing?
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, I was so young.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, when I when I could read, I just started reading signs to my mom as we went shopping when I was in like first grade.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And I just love to read everything and anything.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: But when I discovered books, I think it was probably about second grade, and I read a book.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: I remember the title of the first book that got me.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: It was a mystery, and it was called Two on a Boat or Two in a Boat or something like that, about these two little kids that went to an island and got stranded on the island.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: And I I just kept reading it thinking, Oh my gosh, are they ever gonna get off?
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: And it it never it's never left me.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: I've been reading ever since.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: You got hooked.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Well, I probably got hooked when you start giving me the books and encouraging me to read and telling me to read, and especially now as I've gotten older.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: My kids are all grown up and I'm retired, so which should mean I have time on my hands.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: And so I do spend most of my days reading.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: But uh recently I stopped into my local library.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: I've been there a couple times in the past week.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I admit it's because I'm taking a Spanish class right now, and I like to go to the library to hang out a half an hour before my class starts.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Um, but anyways, when I was in the library, it is such a cool place to hang out.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: And when I was in there, I saw the sign and it said, Bubbles for bookworms.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: I just love it.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: I wish I had that when I was a kid or when my kids were small, bubbles for bookworms.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, they have so many, you know, Georgia the Jungle and so many themes and summer book camp.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: It is just, I mean, there's so much out there for kids, and they all they have different bilingual books too, which, you know, I'm still in the kids section when it comes to that.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Anyways, no, you're you're speaking like a true grandma though.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes, I do take I do take my grandkids to the library in Round Rock, Texas.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Um, but but now that we are adults, how many books would you say a month you read?
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: And what's your favorite genre?
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: I would say probably around four to six books, but I'm working full-time still, so four to six books a month?
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Yes, and that's with a full-time job.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Yes, but I could read more if I didn't if I was retired, but I'm not yet ready to retire.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: So Okay, I won't say I have to say starting this podcast, I'm reading them and also taking notes.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm going slower.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: So now it's gonna be probably one book a week.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, that's okay though.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: This is so much fun.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: And actually, Kim and I are adult are doing this podcast all on our own.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: We're we're editor, technical, neural.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Sound system.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: So um sorry if at first we have a few glitches.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a learning curve, so we'll try to get it to you as best as we can.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: And we hope our besties give us a lot of grace because we're gonna need that.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, we will.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: We will.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Um, one of the things though, like I said, Wendy is the the the really true book lover here, and I love all the books that she's picked out and recommended for me to read.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: And coincidentally, the last, you know, three, four books that she's given me to read, I think most of them, if not all of them, are gonna be made into a movie.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: How do you do that, Wend?
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: How do you pick the best books out there?
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Tell me your secret, please.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: We all want to know that.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: No, no, I have no secret.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: For those books, I'm usually Googling what the most popular books of the year are because those, you know, you usually can't go wrong with the best sellers and the ones that are everybody's talking about.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: So a lot of our books are gonna be, you know, the ones that really resonated with all the people.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: And then this one that we're doing today just happens to be going to be coming out, I think it's what, October 2nd with Anne Hathaway.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: So did we already say what book we're doing?
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: No, I was waiting for you to say the title of the book here.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm so sorry.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: We're doing Verity.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: We're doing Verity by Colleen Hoover, and it's definitely gonna be a movie.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: It's definitely coming out in October, I believe October 2nd, and Ann Hathaway's gonna be in it as she's been in most of the movies this summer.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: I swear she's been in so many movies this summer, but she's a good actress, and I think she's gonna do a good job with Verity.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: So we can get into what if we think the book or the movie is gonna be better after you're done with your recap because we have big thoughts on that too.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: So okay.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Well, like Wendy said, um, Verity is our pick, and we're gonna go into a recap of it.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: And we normally don't go into such detail, but there are so many twists and plots and turns, and who's the good guy, who's the bad guy.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I think that we need to I need to talk to my besties and we need to get some input in here.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: So there's gonna be some spoilers in here, just so you know.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna tell you about the whole book.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: I'll be honest with you.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: We're gonna tell you about the whole book from front to end.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: We're only gonna give you some of the highlights because obviously we can't go through the whole thing.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: But disclaimer here, you're gonna find out how the book ends.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: And I say how the book ends, not who the good guy, bad guy, or what happens, because once we get to the end, you'll see what I mean.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: It's up for debate.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: And I'm really curious how they're gonna do it in the movies.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Uh, what they're gonna do.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: It's it's just, well, I guess I'll just have to go to the movies and see that.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: So, Wendy, is there anything that you want to add before we jump into it?
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: I think I would just like to add that if anybody has any comments or questions or books they'd like us to review, they can contact us at Books in Box Office Besties at Instagram and Facebook.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: And we also have our email finally up and running, and it's books in box office besties at gmail.com.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: So let us know what you think.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Good, bad.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, I really don't want to hear anything bad, but if it's constructive, I'll take it.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: I'll take it.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Let's not discourage anybody.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not gonna discourage you.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: I hopefully you like it.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: So okay.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: So um, this book really has it all.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: It is a psychological thriller, it's has death and mayhem, plot twisters, romance, and so much more.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: And as far as being a little spicy, I must say it is more like sex, sex, sex, and raw sex, erotic sex, the biting of the headboard kind of sex.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: I'll just leave you with that.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Or maybe that's one of the spoilers, I don't know.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: And I definitely don't know how the bite marks got on the headboard.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Maybe you do.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Wendy, since you're the one that picked this book, is there anything you want to add before I jump into it?
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Did you want me to go over the main characters, or did you just want to get into the recap?
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Uh I'll just start with the main characters myself.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Sounds good.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: You know what page we're on then.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: So um, hopefully, we're going to encourage everybody to read this book and go to the movies.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: But for those of you who have not read the book yet and want to know what the whole book is about, I'll just give you the three main characters.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: The three main characters are Verity Crawford.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: She's a famous author, strong fan base, well loved, very attractive, good wife, and a wonderful mother of three.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Jeremy Crawford, real estate investor, very attractive, good husband, well loved, and a doting father of three.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Loan Ashley.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: She's young, single, no family, struggling writer that hasn't written a book in over a year and about to be evicted.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: This book starts off with Loan on her way to her nine o'clock appointment to meet her agent.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: She's walking through New York City.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, she stops at the light when suddenly a man next to her, unaware of his environment, obviously, steps out in front of a bus.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: His head pops like a melon under the wheels.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Blood shoots out and splatters her clothes and face.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: She's stunned, she's in shock, she's not moving, and as good fortune would have it, a gentleman comes up behind her.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Let's just call him tall, dark, and handsome, and asks if she's okay.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: She just kind of stares, not knowing what to say.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: I guess at this point we could honestly say she's in shock.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Say that.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: If she wasn't already, she sure should be now, yeah.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Sure shouldn't should.
- 12:45unknown: Yes.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Well, he leads her into the nearest cafe to the men's room and locks the door.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: She looks in the mirror and sees the blood on her face in her shirt.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: She wipes her face and stares at her shirt.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: So naturally, what does she do?
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: She takes her shirt off and tries to rinse the blood out.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: And what does tall, dark, and handsome do?
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: He takes the shirt off his back and gives it to her.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: He then proceeds to put on his jacket and tells her he has to leave for an appointment.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: The entire time she keeps telling herself, what a good looking guy this is, looking at him out of the corner of her eyes.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: She almost senses an immediate spark.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: In an attempt to make conversation, or maybe it was just her nerves talking, not sure about that.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: She babbles on and says, This is the worst day of my life.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: He tells her he's had worse days.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Loan asks, What could be worse than this?
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: He replies, When I pulled my daughter's body out of the lake a couple months ago.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Wendy, there's a lot going on right here from the get-go.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: I wonder why the author packs so much in the first few minutes of the book.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but that's sure a way to kill a mood.
- 13:59unknown: Yeah.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: I don't know if any sparks, I don't know if any sparks was going on in his mind, but uh yeah, that just shot everything down, didn't it?
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: And how shocked can she, how much in shock can she be if she's feeling sparks?
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, spark, spark, spark, spark, spark.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: I I don't I just don't get it.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Crazy.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I know Loan seems a little bit ditzy.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Uh she's young, she's in shock, and remember, she is single.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: But come on, to give your shirt off your back to a stranger.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's the norm in New York City.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: I don't care what the circumstances are, but that would be a hard no for me.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: I am not taking or giving my shirt to some stranger.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: What about no you?
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Not in New York City.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: No.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: What about Ohio or Texas?
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Let me just throw those two states in there.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Not in Ohio or Texas.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: No.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: Um, okay.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: I don't want anybody's bed post.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: So I mean, let's just throw this out here, Wendy.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Um, Matthew McConaughey is walking down the street.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: You were walking in the last time he got an invite for Christmas.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: You know him.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's a totally different scenario.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's Matthew McConaughey, everybody.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Wendy's a best friend.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's just get back over here.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: So uh oh, oh Wendy, Wendy.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Um, this reminds me of something.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Maybe you can relate to Loan.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Um, how about the time that you were walking rip and you fell face down butt up?
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, what can you do?
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Thanks for that.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: What kind of memories come to mind?
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, yes, I was a little in shock too that my dog pulled me over in front of a bunch of strangers, but not as in shock as somebody who just saw someone's head pop off.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I still I I have to say though, I get why she took the shirt.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: You know, she was in shock.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, I get that now because when I fell on my face and I'm starting to get used to it because my dog really pulls when we get to the dog park.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: I gotta try to stop him from that habit.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I mean I definitely think if I was in that much shock, I probably would have taken this shirt.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: I guess when you're five inches off the ground, the world's a different perspective.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: It really is.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm starting to see it a lot more that way, too.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: It's not not been pretty.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: It's not been pretty.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Well, let's get back to the book here.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Loan puts on the man's shirt and makes her nine o'clock meeting with her agent.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: When guess who walks in the room?
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's Mr.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Tall, Dark, and Handsome and the Publisher.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: The publisher explains that Jeremy Crawford, and yes, it is Mr.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Tall, Dark and Handsome, is the husband of Verity Crawford, and he is here today to represent Verity.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Verity has been in a terrible car accident and is unable to complete the last two books in the series.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: They don't want the public to know about this.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: They offer her$225,000 to co-author the last two books with Verity.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: Now keep in mind, Verity is famous, and Lohan admits she hasn't even read anything current of hers.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: As good as the offer sounds, she thinks about it and she reluctantly says no.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Can you imagine what she is possibly thinking about?
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: Well, my first thought was she probably doesn't think she's up to the task because why would she turn down all that money unless she doesn't think she can deliver, maybe?
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: What did you think?
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: I think she is I think she could really use the money, obviously.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, come on, we said in the beginning she's about to be evicted.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Um what if she takes the money and can't deliver or the book bombs?
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: And why does Verity want to co-author with her?
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: I would imagine that Verity would have other people that she would co-author with of the same caliber.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: This is um I mean I was thinking why did they pick her also?
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, really seriously, because sh it's not like she's a huge best-selling writer.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: But maybe, maybe they saw something in her writing that was similar to Verity's, or maybe maybe there was ulterior motives that we don't know about yet.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: Huh.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Well, let's read on.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: Loan might be thinking something along those lines, like she can really use the money.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: But again, guess who comes to her rescue?
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Jeremy.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: After she reluctantly says no, the publisher stands up and before walking out, she turns back, looks at Loan and Loan's publisher, and says, You have until noon tomorrow to make your final decision.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: And then she walks out.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: Jeremy is still staring at her and asks if he can have a word alone with her.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: The other people file out as he intensely sits and stares at her.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: A little spellbinding, I would say.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: He tells her that Verity read her book open-ended and liked it, and said that their writing styles are similar and that you were going to be the next big author.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: That's why he gave her name to Verity's publisher.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: If anyone is going to take over Verity's series of books, he wanted it to be someone's work that she would respect as a writer.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Well, he's definitely pushing the flattery.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: Next or you can kind of say he sewed up any loose ends.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: But anyways, next he tells her about his family, the tragic cloud that's living over their heads.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Last year he lost his twin daughter, Chastin.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: A couple of months ago he lost his other daughter, Harper, in a swimming accident, and now his wife was in a tragic car accident that left her in a catatonic state.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: If anybody knows heartache, it's definitely Jeremy.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: He is left with taking care of their five-year-old son, Crew, and taking care of his wife.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: At this point, she is pretty much lost and captivated by Jeremy.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: The sympathy, the physical attraction, the dollar signs floating in her head, and oh yeah, the two books that she has to write.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: Then, as if he's reading her mind, he tells her to come by the house next week and look through Verity's office.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: She has years of notes and papers scattered all over.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: She can stay and take as long as she needs.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: And casually mentions one more little small detail before he walks out the door.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Ask for a million dollars.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: You deserve it, and they'll pay it.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: So, Wendy, do you think she'll take the job?
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: A million dollars?
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, come on.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, well, after that compliment, for sure.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, well, after the million dollars, even without the compliment, I would think I would think it would be smart to take it.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: But with all his compliments saying that, you know, Verity thought that she was a great writer, and now with the money and she really needs it, yeah.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: I think she should take it.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: And I would think she'd be crazy not to, even in her shock.
- 21:24unknown: Yeah.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Her shock, her whatever you want to call it.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: It's funny how things turned out because is this the worst day of her life or the luckiest day of her life?
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: I just have my suspicions.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Is this really gonna change things for her?
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: It's not like she even tried to sell her writing skills or the vision of what she thought the next couple of books would be like.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: It's Jeremy doing all the talking.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: But maybe he's just venting because sometimes it's easier to talk to a stranger than it is to people you know that are close.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: What do you think, Wend?
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: I think that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: There's definitely an interaction between those two for sure.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: And I think they got that.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Did it occur when he took his shirt off?
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: I'm just curious here.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Or maybe he's just trying to be a loving husband to honor his wife.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, part of me thought maybe he sought her out.
- 22:17unknown: Yeah.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think he sought her out too.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: Oh well, getting back to the story.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Now the stage is set, and this story here is really going to get interesting.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of plot twists.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: I'm just going to mention a few of them.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: A few of them that, in my opinion, were kind of major.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: So let's get going here.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: So now Loewen is at his house.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Jeremy shows her around and introduces her to Verity.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Verity is laying in bed just staring, unable to speak or move on her own.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: She's under the care of a nurse during the day.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Their little boy, Crew, is sitting on top of the bed next to his mom playing a game.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: Loewen gets an eerie feeling and thinks that Verity is staring at her.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: She shakes it off.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Jeremy continues to show her around and leads her into Verity's office.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: The office is a writer's dream come true.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: It is a massive room with books everywhere.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Her bookshelves are filled, there's books on the desk, there's some that are stacked on the floor with papers and post-its scattered all over.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Jeremy leaves her in the office where she spends most of her time looking over things, trying to discover the different character traits in Verity's books.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: That seems like a good place to start.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: It seems like Verity likes to tell the story from the antagonist point of view.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: When Jeremy comes back to check on her, she is squabbling on the phone.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Apparently, her luck has run out and she's unable to rent a room for the night.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: I guess they didn't give her an advancement with a check.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: Of course, Mr.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: Tall Dark and Handsome, Jeremy, comes to her rescue again and insists she stays at the house.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: It didn't take too much convincing either.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: He takes her to the master bedroom and tells her she can use it.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Before she can even object, he says, Please take it.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: No one uses it.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: Verdi sleeps upstairs.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: Crew sleeps upstairs.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: Since he's been having these bad dreams, I sleep upstairs too.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: It just makes it easier.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: She noticed the bedroom door doesn't have a lock.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Jeremy catches her looking at the door and says, Oh, he'll put a lock on it in the morning for her.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: Sounding a little creepy.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: She gets to work in Verity's office and sorts papers and comes across the hidden manuscript.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: It looks like it's Verity's autobiography that she hasn't finished yet.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: She feels guilty, but she tells herself she should read just a little bit to get a good sense of who Verity is.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: She reads a couple chapters each time she goes into the office.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: At first, it seems like the greatest love story in the world.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Verity talks about how she met Jeremy and their erotic love life.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: As the days roll on, she continues to read and discovers disturbing thoughts and events.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: But Verity hates her children.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: She never wanted to get pregnant.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Now she can only imagine what this is going to do to her body.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: And worse yet, will Jeremy think of her the same way?
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Will he still want her?
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: She doesn't want anything to come between them, not even children.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: So what does she do?
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: She tries to induce a miscarriage when she finds out she's pregnant by taking pills, by falling down the steps.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: She even tries to terminate the pregnancy herself by using a hanger.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: And when she wasn't successful with that, she literally waited until after the twins were born.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: What could she do to get rid of the twins that wouldn't arouse suspicion on her?
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Well, one night Harper was crying unconsolably.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: She couldn't take it anymore.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: But this was her chance to finally get rid of one of them.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: She went into Harper's room.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: She picked Harper up and carefully turned her back from the baby cam and shoved her fingers down Harper's throat.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: Harper gurgled and gasped.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: Her eyes started rolling back.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: She almost made it, but Jeremy came in.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: She stopped immediately and went back to pretending she was the good mother.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Jeremy took Harper and rocked her to sleep and told Verity to go get some rest.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: It wasn't until years later when the girls were eight that she got a second chance.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: The conditions were perfect.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Jeremy even suggested that she take the kids out on a small boat, and that's exactly what she did.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: The boat capsized and she let Harper drowned.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: The more Loan read the manuscript, the more it fueled her anger at Verity and her empathy for Jeremy.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: The good husband and father who doesn't know his wife is a killer.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Verity didn't deserve a husband like Jeremy or a family.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: She should just tell him, but why hurt him?
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: He has gone through so much already.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: And Verity got what she deserved.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: That was the approach she took.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: But still, Loan had this eerie feeling that Verity was watching her and was able to move and talk and think.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: When she had a moment alone with her, and Verity was brought downstairs, sitting in a chair, to test her theory out, she tossed something towards Verity when she was sitting in the chair staring out.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: Verity never even flinched or blinked.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: And in a final attempt to get a rise out of her, she knelt down and whispered in Verity's ears, I know you can hear me, and I'm telling you that I'm going to make love to your husband in your bed tonight.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: Nothing.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Not one twitch or anything, except for the strong smell of urine running down the chair from Verity.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: Loan yells for Jeremy and he takes her upstairs, cleans her up, and puts her to bed.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: Loan tries to suggest that Verdi can move and think, but he shoots that idea down, making her seem foolish.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: As the evening rolls on, guess what?
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Loan gets her man.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Jeremy kicks the bedroom door open, closes, and takes her with all the passion a man can muster.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: The night is hot and steamy.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: In fact, ha ha ha.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: In fact, Loen leaves her teeth marks on the headboard, but much deeper than Verity ever did.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: They fall into a deep sleep and suddenly Jeremy pops awake.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: He hurried to get dressed so he can go upstairs before Crew woke up.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, the door was locked.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Loewen just sits there knowing that Verity is behind this.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: She locked them in.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Jeremy, slightly panicking at this point, decides to break the window and crawl through.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: In a matter of minutes, he goes around the house and opens Loan's door.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: He tells her, Oh, it must have locked on its own when I slammed it shut.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: Loan, feeling like she knows the real Verity, decides it's up to her to go and confront her and protect Jeremy and Crew.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: As soon as she has the opportunity to be alone with Verity, she walks up the stairs, goes into Verity's room, and starts to confront her.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: She gets louder and louder.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: She even starts to act violently and moves towards Verity.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: Verity starts to yell back and struggling with her.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: Loan now feels vindicated.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: She knew she was faking this whole time, but Jeremy walks in the room, grabs Loan from behind, and doesn't see Verity move.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: In his mind, she is attacking a helpless woman who is his wife and who he does love and tells Loan to get out.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: Just get out.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: I've had it.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: This is too much.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: You've got to go.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: In fact, he even starts to pack her bags.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Loan is crying and begging him, just listen to me, but he won't.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Then she shows him the manuscripts and tells him to read it at least the last few pages.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: He looks at it and says, Where did you find this?
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: And takes a quick look at it.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: And he can't believe what is written in there.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: In a fit of rage, he runs up to Verity's room, waving the manuscript in front of her and tells her she better say something, or he's going to the police right now, still in a fit of rage and threatening moves and getting closer to her.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: She starts to fight back.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: She is kicking and hitting.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: He just wants to kill her.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: How could she have killed her daughter?
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: He starts to strangle her, but Lowen yells at him, stop, and tells him that strangling will leave fingerprints.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: Instead, he should stick his fingers down her throat and make it look like she aspirated.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: Verity gurgles and gags, and in a few minutes, it's over.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: She is dead.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: Jeremy, in somewhat shock himself and still in this rage, looks and tells her to go to your room.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: Nothing happened.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: He repeats that over and over.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: Nothing happened here.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: In the morning, he will check on Verdi before the nurse comes and report the death.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: Loan does as she is told.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: Everything goes according to plan.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Loan goes back to New York and finishes up the books.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Her and Jeremy at this point are in love with one another.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: But for public publicity.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Rip.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: I got that one.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: Okay, Rip, my only critic.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: But for publicity's sake, they decide to remain separated for a while and wait for the book to be released and some of the excitement to die down.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Loan at this point is a couple months pregnant.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: Eventually, as time goes by, Jeremy, Crew, and Loan get together and plan to move far away where no one will know them.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: In preparation, they go back to the house before the movers come and they decide what goes and what stays.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: Crew is running around the house and says, Oh, I almost forgot the pictures I made for mommy.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: Loewen hears him in Verity's room.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: She goes up after him and sees that he is pulling something from the floor.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: It is a hidden space.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: He pulls out the pictures he drew and goes off running.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Loewen looks down at the floor and sees the hidden space and finds a letter from Verity to Jeremy.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: Coincidental, would you say?
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: Again, she is caught thinking, what should I do?
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: Poor Jeremy has been through so much.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: So she starts to read it.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Verity explains how much she loved him and the children and always will.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: And felt after Chastin's death, a shift in their life occurred.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Nothing was ever the same.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: And then when Harper's death the following year, the pain was too much.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: She saw how much he ached, and she ached too.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: She just wanted to rip her heart out.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: But he only saw his own pain and his own hurt.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: He needed someone to blame.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: His suspicions of her just grew, questioning her over and over about the day that Harper died.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Things just continuously got worse.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: Shortly after Harper's death is when he found the manuscript and read it.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: He read how she planned to kill Harper and frame it as a boating accident.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: He read it all.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: He read everything.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: The contempt for the twins when they were born up to their deaths.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: This is more than he could stand.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: He approached her in a rage of anger.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: She never knew.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: There was no talking to him, she said.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: He was frightening her.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: He was scaring her.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: He knew she knew that he was about to kill her any moment.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: They struggled and he subdued her and tied her up with duct tape and set her in the car and ran it into a tree.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: But Verity survived.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: At this point, she knew if she went to the police, she would be convicted of murder.
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: No one would believe a writer or why she written it.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: So she played it up, pretending not to get better, just laying there like a zombie until she could make her move and escape with crew.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: She decided her and crew will have no contact with him.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: They will go somewhere not to be found.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: Even though she loved him and always will, she will never feel safe with him.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: He would never believe it was just a writing exercise she was doing for her publisher, trying to get down into the mindset and depths of the antagonist.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Stir up raw motion feelings.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: If only he paid more attention to her work, he would know exactly what she was doing, but he didn't.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: And now he believed her as a killer.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: Her choice was simple.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: She had to leave, and she can't leave Crew with a killer, even if it's his father.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, so much is going on.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: She's pointing a finger, Jeremy's pointing a finger, Loan's pointing a finger.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I it's gonna be interesting how this comes out on the movie.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: What do you think, Wend?
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: I think they're all villains.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I also feel like I just sat through Masterpiece Theater.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: That was great recap.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: Well, I did disappoint you, but we got a little bit more to do.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: Not disappointed at all.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Loan was confused, scared, not sure what to think.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: She's helped killed Fardy.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: For whatever reason, she decided to rip it up in tiny pieces and dispose of it.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, hide the evidence, it's called.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Verity is gone.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: How would this change anything?
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: As she's thinking things over, she remembers when she showed him the manuscript and asked him to read it, he said, Where did you find this?
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Looking back at it, he didn't seem shocked to have seen it.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: More upset and surprised with what was in it.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: It is behind them now.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: She just wants to move on, yet this weighs on her mind.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: Who really is Jeremy?
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: They eventually settle into their new house down on the coast.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: Life is going pretty good.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Their daughter, Nova, is now a couple months old.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: They all have been through a lot and ready for a little getaway.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: They pack up for a day trip and head to the beach.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: The beach is empty and beautiful as usual.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Jeremy tells Loan he's going for a quick jog and he'll be back soon.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Loan sets up the kids.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: She sets up crew with a bucket and pail and a juice box.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: She sits there nursing little Nova.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: In the distance she sees a person walking their dog.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: It looks like the person is starting to walk in their direction.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: She wishes Jeremy would get back soon.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: She is starting to feel a little uncomfortable nursing the baby while this person is heading in their direction.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: When the lady approaches with her little dog, she says, I thought I recognized you.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: Loan clearly did not recognize her.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: The lady turns her attention to Crew and points to the baby and says, And who is this?
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: Crew says with a smile on his face, This is my sister Nova.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Then, seemingly Jeremy pops into the picture and he stands in between the lady, let's just call her Pam and his family.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Pam tries to make some small talk with Jeremy, but he politely, as always, uh brushes her off and says goodbye and makes sure you say hi to Bill for me.
- 37:17SPEAKER_00: She walks away with an occasional glance back.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: Jeremy tells Loan, that is their old neighbor.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: It's Verity's best friend, Pam.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: He orders her to take everything and put it back in the car.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Do not leave a single thing.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: No evidence that we were there.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: Loan, being the dutiful wife, packs up the kids, picks up the trash, and takes it all back to the car with her.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: In the distance, however, she can see Jeremy heading in the direction of the lady.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: She wonders what he's gonna do.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: When he gets back to the car, he looks a little crazy, scared.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: Something is off, but something is definitely not right here.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: He tells her, I had to do it.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: I just had to do it.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: I had to do it.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: I had to do it for us.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: She's a local gossip.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: In a matter of hours, everyone would know we are together where we live and that we have a child together.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: She knew too much.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: I had to do it.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: I had to do it.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: I had to do it for us.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: He kept on saying, Do you understand?
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Do you understand me?
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: She just nods and nods, thinking the worst.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: Later, when they go back and she's laying in her bed, nothing in her world is fine.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: She sleeps next to a man that has killed two women that he has deemed as threats.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: Will he ever deem she a threat?
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: Now, besties, you tell me who's the bad guy?
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: Where did it all fall apart?
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: And trust me, there is so much more.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: I cannot wait to see the movie.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: But I yeah.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: Who's the bad guy, Wendy?
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: Tell me.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: Tell me.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: I read the whole book.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: I feel like all of them were.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: To be honest, at some point I felt like all of them were.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: I didn't like Verity's manuscript, whether it was true or not.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: It was horrible, and I couldn't stand it.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: And then I feel like the husband was leading a secret life, and I and Loan helped, you know.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, come on, she ran up there and said, Oh, don't leave any uh marks on her throat.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: You know, what is she does she watch a lot of true crime documentaries like me?
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, that was cool.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: She read the she read the manuscript.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: Well, that's true.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: And that's what Verity did.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of like just cause, I was thinking.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I mean, she should have just been like, let's bring this manuscript to the law.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: They're all to in my mind, they're all bad guys.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: It's it's creepy.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: It's a creepy, creepy read.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: And I think that it's gonna be an even better movie.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: Because usually I don't think the movie is gonna do the book justice, but I think in this case, it could be a really creepy good movie.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: I hope I'm not wrong.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: So I agree with you.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: I think this is gonna be actually a scary movie with all the twists and turns, because throughout this book, Verity's always like right around the corner, you know, or she'll hear a noise and she'll run up to Verity's room and Verity will be laying there, but maybe in a slightly different position, you know, and she seems to be the only one that notices this outside of crew.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, it's like it is it is it is so strange.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: But when she first went to the house, she noticed that Verity writes from the antagonist's point of view.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: On the other hand, she's writing this manuscript, right, from the antagonist's point of view.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: Even if it was fake, even if it was fake, or even if it was real, I forget which is real and which is fake.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: If your daughter died within two weeks, you wouldn't be writing this whole thing, how you killed her, you let her drowned.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: I just, I just don't believe that.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: I think she wrote this letter and put it there in case she ever got caught, that this would, in her mind, prove that she's innocent.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's a good possibility.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: That is a good possibility.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, I thought somewhere in the book she said that her therapist told her to write about it, and maybe that was her way of writing about it.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: But honestly, it was so horrific to read it.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know how anybody could write something like that about your children, your own children.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: So I feel like the manuscript was true, she was horrible, he was horrible, and Loan was horrible.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: They're all the bad guys in this, in in my mind, but I don't know.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: Let's see how the movie portrays it, you know?
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: But I do think it's interesting.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: We'll be to be honest with all our besties out there.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: Wendy and I have talked about this for well over a month, you know.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: Well over a month.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: We'll just stop there.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: But at first we were saying, Oh, it's Jeremy, because come on, he picked her, he this, he that, he just sealed the deal with everything.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: And why did he pick her?
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: She's vulnerable.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: And then we thought, well, maybe it's Verity that's the bad person because she really did kill her kids, or you know, and then towards the end, we just agreed that they're all bad.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: But in either case, or in any case, I should say, this book is a book that you cannot put down because just when you think you know who's who in the zoo, there's a twist.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: There is such a twist.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: And um, the other thing too, Verity and her husband apparently had a wonderful, great sex life that kind of goes in detail, just putting it out there.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: Um, if that's your kind of thing that you want to read, this is the book for you.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: And if this isn't, well, you're gonna miss a third of the book.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Just thought I'd put that out there.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: But I'm really interested to let us know who you think the bad guy is.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: I I just would like to hear.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, obviously, I didn't put all the plots and twists, and if you got a different point you'd or different plot or twist you'd like to bring up and share with us, that would be great.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we would love to hear from you as um, especially about you know, any questions or ideas you have because we love talking about these books, and like Kim said, we talked about this one for a long time, and I I actually can't wait till this movie comes out.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: I love creepy, scary movies, and I don't necessarily like horror, I don't like blood and guts, but I do like scary, creepy, suspenseful movies.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: So I'm hoping that this one pans out and is a good movie.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, it has some good actors in it, so um Anne Hathaway.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Anne Hathaway.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: I think Dakota Johnson is playing Rolling and who did you say Josh Hartnett uh is playing.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Jeremy.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: Jeremy.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: So definitely some big players, and I think it's I think it's gonna be a good movie.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, I know it's gonna be a good movie.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: It could be better than the book, but I thought the book was really good.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, just to leave you leave you like that, wondering who, who, who we're gonna rate the book how many out of five popcorns.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: This book I'm giving a four and a half simply because I like my books wrapped up in a nice tidy bow, and I like to know at the end that there's an actual ending, and I don't have to guess and decide it on my own.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: That's just me, that maybe not you, you know.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: So that's what I'm giving this book.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: So well, I would give this book a four, pretty much the same reason.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: I I really enjoyed this book.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, this book just had me thinking, oh, this person, that person, this person.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: But I really like it when it makes me really think hard and then it proves me wrong on something.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: So this is a definite four, but because I'm not giving it a five, because I don't know who did what, and I don't like thinking, and if I think it's the wrong person, that means the guilty one got off free.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: I know that sounds crazy.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: It's a book, right?
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: But uh, I'm giving this just a four, but I know I haven't seen the movie yet, but I can just feel it because I saw some of the trailers and a picture companion a thousand words, right?
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: So when I saw Ann Hathaway and Dakota Johnson and Josh, they're just so perfect for the part.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: They are just so perfect for the part.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: And and because I read the book, it's like, haha, I know what you're thinking.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have to give the movie a five, and I haven't even seen it yet.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: So Yeah, yeah, we'll see if you still give it a five after we see it.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: But hopefully, hopefully, yeah.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: I think um there's a lot of good movies coming out, I think, coming up pretty soon.
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: What else was it?
- 45:55SPEAKER_00: Ann Hathaway in?
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Uh, let me think.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: No, there's two big movies that she's in.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: One was this one, and what was the other one that she's in?
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Well, there was The Devil Wears Prada 2.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: There was another book that we just read that she's in.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, book.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, she was in a book.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, you mean a book that's going into a movie?
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: To a movie, yeah.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: There's two of them.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: Um I can't think of what the other one is.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: She's Atmosphere's not gonna be a movie, is it?
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: We read Atmosphere.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, we read so many books.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: A little spoiler, a little spoiler alert.
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: Um, some of the books that we're gonna be talking about in the next couple of weeks is gonna be Atmosphere, uh, The Devil in the White City, uh, The Alice Network.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: It's not her.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, just to mention a couple of them, and then the movies.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, the one movie that the one movie that I really liked, I'll tell you right now, is Obsession.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: Obsession.
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, is that good?
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: Wow, I'm gonna watch it again now.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: It's on Netflix, but yeah, that is really good.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: I better stop, or I'll yeah, okay.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and we have a bit of a different opinion on obsession too, so I think that'll be a good one to listen to.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: Other movies, let's see.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: Well, I loved Hail Mary Project.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that'll be one we do.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: I can't think of any other movies.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Ugh, well, there's so many that we saw.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: But if there's some that you would like us to comment on, please send us an email, drop us a line, we'd love to hear from you.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: And thank you so much for listening.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: And I just want you to know that books and movies are a huge part of our lives, and we're so happy to be able to share that with you.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: If you like what you heard, please follow and share.
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: Like Kim said, we'd love to hear from you.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: What you're reading, what you're watching.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's get a lively dialogue going in our Instagram and Facebook accounts, and we hope from you soon.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: Bye bye.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: Thank you, everybody, and we look forward to talking to you next week.
