- 1:22Speaker 2: All right, All right, guys, welcome back to our religion podcast.
- 1:25Speaker 3: This is a very special edition La edition.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah Cali Loved Shots, California, whole state of count shouts, open, shout, Yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 2: shouts over shout the Sacramento sho out to San Diego,
- 1:38Speaker 2: all over So you know, as we said before previously,
- 1:41Speaker 2: you know, the message of financial literacy is something that.
- 1:43Speaker 3: We need to spread all over the world, all over
- 1:46Speaker 3: the country.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So this is a dope trip for us when we're
- 1:49Speaker 2: on the West Side and we're connected with a lot
- 1:52Speaker 2: of great people. And you know, the premise of our
- 1:54Speaker 2: show if you are a loyal listener or if you're
- 1:57Speaker 2: just a new listener, the premise of our show is
- 1:59Speaker 2: that we tell the financial backstories but behind sports entertainment
- 2:03Speaker 2: business also. But it's comedy based around sports entertainment, right,
- 2:06Speaker 2: because a lot of times people don't fully thank or
- 2:09Speaker 2: they don't fully understand what goes into it. They just
- 2:12Speaker 2: watch the NFL, they watch a movie and watch Netflix.
- 2:15Speaker 2: But every business is a business, right.
- 2:18Speaker 4: We find that everything is a business, right, Education that's
- 2:21Speaker 4: a business. But every everything always comes back to the money.
- 2:24Speaker 2: It always comes back to my much. It always comes
- 2:25Speaker 2: back to your money. So with that being said, we
- 2:28Speaker 2: was lucky enough to connect with the brother Romyo Brown,
- 2:31Speaker 2: who is a actor and producer of entrepreneurs.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Yeah, he does a lot. He does a lot some
- 2:37Speaker 3: of the you know shows that he's been in. The
- 2:39Speaker 3: n CIS.
- 2:40Speaker 2: We have swat obviously the rookie just finished being married,
- 2:45Speaker 2: Jean congratulations showing love.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Atlanta, thank you for that.
- 2:51Speaker 2: It was good to so, you know, when I connected
- 2:53Speaker 2: with him on the phone, we spoke and I'm like, well, no,
- 2:56Speaker 2: we definitely really gotta get you on the show if possible,
- 2:58Speaker 2: because he just had a lot to say and you
- 3:01Speaker 2: know a lot of just good information that I think
- 3:03Speaker 2: would be very valuable to everybody to soak in.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So, first and foremost, thank you for coming on the show.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Appreciate it. So we're numb right into it.
- 3:13Speaker 2: So you know, you're an actor, right amongst other things.
- 3:16Speaker 2: But we'll talk about the first segment as far as
- 3:19Speaker 2: your acting careers concern So a lot of people have
- 3:21Speaker 2: aspirations of being an actor, right, It's kind of like
- 3:23Speaker 2: being an athlete where it's glamorous.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Right. We see people, you know, we.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Watched the Oscar, We watched these awards shows. Watch everybody
- 3:33Speaker 2: wants to be an actor. So all right, can you
- 3:36Speaker 2: talk about your journey as far as getting to Hollywood
- 3:38Speaker 2: if you're not from la originally.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Like you know the steps that you took and you.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Know how you you actually became a working actor because
- 3:46Speaker 2: it really set blueprint everybody's.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Journey, and that's that's one of the most deterring things
- 3:51Speaker 5: is that somebody, you know, you could be doing it
- 3:54Speaker 5: for ten fifteen years and still be struggling.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Somebody could come here for a year and pop, right, man,
- 4:00Speaker 3: you're just you know whatever. So that's crazy. But re
- 4:02Speaker 3: winded to the back.
- 4:03Speaker 5: Obviously from from Oakland, California. I'm like most black males.
- 4:07Speaker 5: I wanted to play football, but I got into the
- 4:10Speaker 5: drama program a boy my senior year, junior senior year,
- 4:15Speaker 5: and they said you got to pick these electives and
- 4:17Speaker 5: then I was like, well, Spanish seems really hard, and
- 4:20Speaker 5: all the girls seemed went there, and so I was like,
- 4:23Speaker 5: I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna go with that. But
- 4:25Speaker 5: I just fell in love with it. For whatever reason
- 4:28Speaker 5: it was. I've never been one to like the monotony
- 4:32Speaker 5: of knowing what's gonna happen day to day and always
- 4:35Speaker 5: confused me and life is growing up.
- 4:37Speaker 3: It was just like, how come I'm not to do
- 4:38Speaker 3: the same thing every day? Like I know what's gonna happen, Yeah,
- 4:41Speaker 3: I don't know what's for lunch. I actually gotta do it.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Im Ima looked at it, you got to you know
- 4:44Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 4:45Speaker 5: So when when I got to step on that stage
- 4:48Speaker 5: and you know, I was a bad guy or I
- 4:51Speaker 5: was the good guy, I.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Was just it was like every time I had to
- 4:54Speaker 3: put on these different.
- 4:55Speaker 5: Characters and if I've done it well, I was praised
- 4:59Speaker 5: for I was crazy and then I was like, Okay,
- 5:01Speaker 5: maybe I like this. Then I would really changed everything.
- 5:05Speaker 5: As I did the AIDS Awareness.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Play at the Henry J.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Kyser Center in Oakland, and I was just having a
- 5:12Speaker 5: great time with the character. And literally people after that
- 5:16Speaker 5: came up in tears telling me how much they appreciated
- 5:19Speaker 5: me telling that story, and they hit my heart.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I was like, wow, like I can change lives and
- 5:23Speaker 3: have fun. So I'm gonna do that, you know.
- 5:26Speaker 5: So I told my parents if all my parents and
- 5:28Speaker 5: my family has always been super super supportive, and you know,
- 5:32Speaker 5: I strapped up my boots and came out. Came out
- 5:34Speaker 5: this way, came out of cal State Northridge. Originally I
- 5:37Speaker 5: was with a theater major, theater major, but then I
- 5:42Speaker 5: started meeting cats quick. Like you know, me from being
- 5:45Speaker 5: in Oakland seeing the TV was like a fantasy world.
- 5:48Speaker 5: It might as well be Disneyland, you know. And then
- 5:50Speaker 5: seeing all these cars and stuff, I was like, are
- 5:52Speaker 5: they giving.
- 5:55Speaker 3: How If I want to give a free something's got
- 6:00Speaker 3: to be going on and tell me how to do it.
- 6:02Speaker 5: So it was just like it was like a big
- 6:04Speaker 5: culture shock coming coming from the Bay Area because we
- 6:07Speaker 5: just don't see the stuff you see.
- 6:08Speaker 3: You don't see the celebrities.
- 6:10Speaker 5: So to see a cat that's on like a Skillers commercial,
- 6:12Speaker 5: it was like, yo.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Do I'm in class like you know. And then as
- 6:19Speaker 3: you you know, I got a big energy.
- 6:20Speaker 5: You know, if I ever got to say anything about me,
- 6:22Speaker 5: that's like my my top top thing that I love
- 6:25Speaker 5: about me is my energy, Like I can I can
- 6:28Speaker 5: just absorb a room and just like if you beep
- 6:30Speaker 5: on him, I can just crush that, like come on, man,
- 6:32Speaker 5: what is this? Why are we doing it? And I
- 6:35Speaker 5: think people gravity take it towards me. And then I
- 6:38Speaker 5: started meeting the people and they just started like pouring
- 6:40Speaker 5: information out. So they's like, yo, you don't need to
- 6:42Speaker 5: be a theater major to do this, Like go ahead,
- 6:45Speaker 5: cut that out and then just take this class.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Just take this class.
- 6:50Speaker 5: So then I switched over the radio, radio, television, film
- 6:54Speaker 5: and I took that for a while it was cool.
- 6:56Speaker 5: And then where I found where my love and my
- 6:58Speaker 5: heart was was at marketing. So I still took marketing,
- 7:01Speaker 5: still doing the whole acting thing.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Whatever. The building blocks that marketing gave me was.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Insane, you know, it was insane, like, for instance, I'll
- 7:09Speaker 5: get right back to what you asked. But there was
- 7:11Speaker 5: this term in marketing called swat and it's not as
- 7:15Speaker 5: w a T, it's swot. And I feel like that
- 7:21Speaker 5: kind of structured my life in a big way because
- 7:23Speaker 5: the definition is in marketing, if you know your swat,
- 7:27Speaker 5: which is your strengths, your.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Weaknesses, your opportunities and threats.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Cool if you put that, if you really and be
- 7:36Speaker 5: honest with yourself, whether it's finances, whether it's your career,
- 7:41Speaker 5: whatever it is.
- 7:41Speaker 3: If you put that swat in.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Front of Eve and say, hey, what are my stunts,
- 7:45Speaker 5: what are my weaknesses, What are the.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Opportunities, and what are the threats.
- 7:49Speaker 5: If you really drill those down, there's nothing that you
- 7:52Speaker 5: can't achieve because now you know what your strengths are,
- 7:55Speaker 5: so you push those up.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Now you know what your weaknesses are.
- 7:58Speaker 5: You need to fix those, those opportunities need to go
- 8:00Speaker 5: after them and the threats. You got to figure out
- 8:03Speaker 5: why they threats. Because once you know what something want
- 8:05Speaker 5: something is a threat, you got the answers. That's just
- 8:08Speaker 5: like some people say, I'm not afraid of the dark,
- 8:09Speaker 5: I'm afraid of what's in the dark.
- 8:11Speaker 3: You see what I'm saying. So that's that. And then
- 8:15Speaker 3: also the MVP.
- 8:16Speaker 5: And we're not talking about the most valuable player, it's
- 8:18Speaker 5: the most it's the minimum viable product. So maybe people
- 8:23Speaker 5: got these big dreams of you know, saying, oh, I
- 8:26Speaker 5: want to have this huge company or I want to
- 8:28Speaker 5: do this major feature film, and.
- 8:30Speaker 3: They never even get off ground.
- 8:31Speaker 5: One what that marketing class taught me was is to
- 8:35Speaker 5: dumb it down to the minimum viable product. What can
- 8:38Speaker 5: you do with your budget right now? I don't care
- 8:40Speaker 5: if it's one hundred dollars? What can how close can
- 8:43Speaker 5: you get to getting that done? Just you can get
- 8:46Speaker 5: an eye on. Okay, this worked, but how can I
- 8:50Speaker 5: make that grow? And from that you just start building.
- 8:53Speaker 5: I don't care if you got this crazy idea about
- 8:56Speaker 5: a magical coffee cup, Okay, well that magical coffee cup
- 8:59Speaker 5: is going to cost you a million dollars, will really
- 9:00Speaker 5: get made. So what you do is you take that
- 9:03Speaker 5: regular cup, go put sticker on it and tell people
- 9:06Speaker 5: what it will be about. Now make sixty of those.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Go sit somewhere and get the people's ideas. What do
- 9:11Speaker 5: you think about this? What do you think about this?
- 9:12Speaker 3: Now you got numbers, and it's power numbers, especially with
- 9:14Speaker 3: the internet.
- 9:15Speaker 5: Now you've got a following to say the people want this,
- 9:19Speaker 5: and then you just start rolling. But if you're just
- 9:20Speaker 5: so busy trying to get that magical coffee cup, you
- 9:23Speaker 5: go get a million dollars just by talking about the
- 9:26Speaker 5: national coffee cup.
- 9:28Speaker 3: That's a fact.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I'm glad you said that because it all intertwines, right,
- 9:32Speaker 2: It all into twines when we talk about entertaining entrepreneurship business.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And that's kind of duty to podcast, is that everything
- 9:40Speaker 2: if you really are aware of you can really maximize
- 9:44Speaker 2: your potential if you understand the business behind it.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Right. So, like what you just broke down with the
- 9:49Speaker 3: slot out of dop, I know actually.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Everything you said that before about it, it makes a
- 9:53Speaker 2: lot of sense, right Like so all right, so now
- 9:57Speaker 2: as far as being an actor, right, because we know
- 9:59Speaker 2: that a lot of people aspire to be an actor,
- 10:01Speaker 2: but they don't understand the financial side. I kind of
- 10:03Speaker 2: compare it to being an athlete. People always say, like,
- 10:05Speaker 2: how do athletes go broke? Right, But they don't know
- 10:07Speaker 2: that they might only get paid two times a month.
- 10:10Speaker 3: They don't know that about it.
- 10:11Speaker 2: They play in a different state, and they pay state
- 10:14Speaker 2: taxes in each state that they're playing that there's fees.
- 10:17Speaker 3: That come out. It's a lot of things that go
- 10:18Speaker 3: into it.
- 10:19Speaker 2: It's not it's, oh, I got fifty million dollars, right,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Like you might not even see a quart up that
- 10:23Speaker 2: because it's not guarantees and this is so much stuff.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Right. So acting is kind of similar with people.
- 10:29Speaker 2: You know, they look at actors like, oh, everybody's blowing
- 10:31Speaker 2: out of control. But there's a lot of financial things
- 10:35Speaker 2: that go into being an actor that people don't don't understand, right,
- 10:37Speaker 2: you just talk about.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It too well, Like first and foremost.
- 10:40Speaker 5: One of the things that I take again, it was
- 10:42Speaker 5: a big shot, Like nobody out there had jobs like
- 10:46Speaker 5: here I am. I come from open so I started
- 10:48Speaker 5: out working at home depot, you know what I mean.
- 10:50Speaker 3: And all my friends that were actors, they just never
- 10:53Speaker 3: went to work. I'm like, well, why am I the
- 10:55Speaker 3: only one going the way, but I hated it. They'd
- 10:58Speaker 3: be at pool parties, they'd be chilled.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Ah.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Man, it was. It was a rough time from it.
- 11:03Speaker 5: It was a rough one because I just didn't understand it.
- 11:05Speaker 5: And you know, and there's so many different hustles and sideles.
- 11:08Speaker 5: There's so many things to distract you from the craft.
- 11:11Speaker 5: And that's why I'm glad that I stayed with my
- 11:13Speaker 5: guns and stayed working and always hustled. And you know,
- 11:16Speaker 5: as I got older, I started to appreciate what working
- 11:19Speaker 5: really dumb for me and you know, my life. But
- 11:23Speaker 5: what people don't understand in the whole acting game is
- 11:27Speaker 5: is they confuse it. People are there, people are saying, oh,
- 11:30Speaker 5: being a struggling actor, that's what it is. And I'm said, no,
- 11:33Speaker 5: I think people are totally wrong about that. You don't
- 11:36Speaker 5: have to be a struggling actor. You need to find
- 11:38Speaker 5: a path, you need to feed the knee. And I
- 11:40Speaker 5: don't want to sound funny, but I've always used this analogy,
- 11:43Speaker 5: which may be a bad one, but a crackhead is
- 11:47Speaker 5: going to do whatever that person needs to do to
- 11:50Speaker 5: get cracked. They will steal from their mama, they will
- 11:52Speaker 5: rob a car, they don't care. It's so deep and
- 11:55Speaker 5: invested in and then they're going to do whatever to do
- 11:58Speaker 5: to get the craft, which is terrible.
- 12:00Speaker 3: It's a terrible thing.
- 12:01Speaker 5: But when you love acting as much as those people
- 12:05Speaker 5: need that drug, you do whatever you gotta do to
- 12:09Speaker 5: feed the need people want to if you're starving. You
- 12:11Speaker 5: can't be starving and going to an audition and not
- 12:14Speaker 5: seem desperate, right, you just can't.
- 12:17Speaker 3: And that was like one of the things I think
- 12:19Speaker 3: last year when Jeffrey Owens and who was not familiar
- 12:21Speaker 3: with that was the gentleman.
- 12:22Speaker 4: From Cosby should right when they's sol home working at
- 12:24Speaker 4: the supermarket. People are like, oh my gosh, what he's doing.
- 12:26Speaker 4: But he's like, no, I'm in between kings right now.
- 12:28Speaker 4: This is a real life rime. Like that's why I
- 12:31Speaker 4: said one of the things that that you made evidence like, yo,
- 12:33Speaker 4: I worked at home people, I did these jobs. He said, yeah,
- 12:36Speaker 4: I two good, but I got a hustle. And I
- 12:38Speaker 4: think people overlook that they want to climbing. It's Hollywood.
- 12:40Speaker 4: I want to be famous, and it's like, nah, there's
- 12:42Speaker 4: a learn like that's you've earned that vision.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Right, absolutely absolutely, And what what happens in the in
- 12:48Speaker 5: the in the in between.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Calling that purgatory state, you know, purgatories, you know, between
- 12:53Speaker 3: heaven and hell. What happens is is that people get lost.
- 12:56Speaker 3: People really get lost because.
- 12:58Speaker 5: They want the fan, they want the money, and I
- 13:01Speaker 5: don't want to be like I've always been mister Diddy
- 13:04Speaker 5: two shoes because I wanted to do all that at
- 13:06Speaker 5: a time too. But all it did was make me
- 13:09Speaker 5: feel like less of a man, less of a person,
- 13:11Speaker 5: less of an actor because Edel told me.
- 13:14Speaker 3: But they said the I know it's.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Actually a Bible, but I'm not super you know, religious,
- 13:19Speaker 5: but it said the sheep that stray furthest away from
- 13:22Speaker 5: the shepherd are the ones to get attacked by the
- 13:23Speaker 5: wolves first and something like that. But it's true because
- 13:26Speaker 5: the the shepherd's there to protect them, you know what
- 13:29Speaker 5: I mean.
- 13:29Speaker 3: You stay close to it, then you're good.
- 13:31Speaker 5: But same thing with the game, Like if you stay
- 13:34Speaker 5: close to it and all you're doing is acting, class,
- 13:37Speaker 5: working out, trying to do plays, watching plays, you don't
- 13:40Speaker 5: see that glitz and glam world, so it doesn't affect
- 13:43Speaker 5: you like you're in this bubble because all you want
- 13:45Speaker 5: to do is acting. People don't do that they start
- 13:47Speaker 5: to get to la and you start to see these
- 13:48Speaker 5: things and it's such a distraction.
- 13:50Speaker 3: And when that happens financially, you start to feel cripple.
- 13:53Speaker 5: You're like, here, I am working at this damn Starbucks,
- 13:56Speaker 5: are working whatever just so I can go to auditions
- 13:59Speaker 5: for what I want in my life. I'm wasting my time.
- 14:02Speaker 5: But that's because they started looking outside and set the inside.
- 14:05Speaker 3: It is.
- 14:05Speaker 5: If you would have just kept your little apartment, stay bob,
- 14:08Speaker 5: stay frinding, stayed patient, then you would have been good. Finances.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Don't come into it then because you're following a dream.
- 14:15Speaker 3: That's true.
- 14:15Speaker 4: It's like you'll see who has a passion and who's.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Fight chasing that purpose. Yeah, I'm right.
- 14:20Speaker 4: You like just hearing me talk about it, it's like you
- 14:22Speaker 4: could hear the purpose, like this is what I was
- 14:24Speaker 4: meant to do. But as people who don't, it's like
- 14:27Speaker 4: they're gonna physill. That's because it's like, I'm just doing
- 14:30Speaker 4: this because.
- 14:30Speaker 5: I want to be doing And then one of the big,
- 14:32Speaker 5: one of the bigger things, just to just to piggyback
- 14:35Speaker 5: what you were saying earlier, I came in and I
- 14:37Speaker 5: had I had natural talent. I was naturally talented from
- 14:42Speaker 5: like the energy and whatever. But skill and talent are
- 14:44Speaker 5: two different things, absolutely two different things. So I was
- 14:47Speaker 5: naturally talented and I booked. I had, like I booked
- 14:50Speaker 5: like four commercials in one year. There was a doctor
- 14:52Speaker 5: Pepper which I shot with a low cool jet. That
- 14:54Speaker 5: was crazy because that was the last commercial that run
- 14:58Speaker 5: DMC had done together before he right, that was the
- 15:01Speaker 5: last one. It was a doctor Pepper joint, so that
- 15:04Speaker 5: ran like crazy, which had me paid. I did the
- 15:07Speaker 5: McDonald's commercial, did a PlayStation two and to be by
- 15:11Speaker 5: all in the same year, you know what I mean.
- 15:12Speaker 5: And then my mom and my dad was super super excited.
- 15:15Speaker 5: But my dad, my dad is real hard those He's like,
- 15:18Speaker 5: you're the man, right right, you used to buy your
- 15:21Speaker 5: own house.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I was goin to.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Like the expectations, right, like Paul Park numbers, how much
- 15:28Speaker 2: would a commercial pay? How much would being an extra?
- 15:31Speaker 2: Because I seen like even like rappers and stuff. I've
- 15:34Speaker 2: seen like interviews where that they're like in movies. But
- 15:37Speaker 2: I think I forgot who Cameron Cameron did paid him
- 15:39Speaker 2: for when he said he got five thousand dollars for it.
- 15:41Speaker 3: If you think I'm like.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Paid him for that's a at least in the hood,
- 15:44Speaker 2: right at least, but it's like I wouldn't.
- 15:47Speaker 3: I would through he got paid more than five thousand.
- 15:49Speaker 3: He's the lead acting.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Now, when you get you gotta understand the business of acting,
- 15:52Speaker 5: like when you when you start out. Whenever you see
- 15:55Speaker 5: somebody that's on you gotta know that that for a
- 15:59Speaker 5: year and a half, I don't care the stuff you see,
- 16:02Speaker 5: they weren't getting paid like that. You're getting paid at
- 16:05Speaker 5: a quote. That's why when you got a good agent
- 16:07Speaker 5: or a good manager, they whatever you made that last
- 16:10Speaker 5: TV show, that's what they get to go off of.
- 16:13Speaker 3: And if the movie or.
- 16:14Speaker 5: The TV show is big enough, you'll knock that quote down,
- 16:18Speaker 5: you know what I mean.
- 16:19Speaker 3: If my quote right now.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Is at ten thousand dollars an episode, but a show like.
- 16:24Speaker 3: This is us on the Marvelous MS.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Mazel said, well, we'll take them, but we can only
- 16:28Speaker 5: maybe do five grande.
- 16:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna do it because because.
- 16:33Speaker 5: They know it will catapult my career to the next level.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 16:38Speaker 5: So when you see these people that you don't know,
- 16:40Speaker 5: you see them on the shows or whatever.
- 16:42Speaker 3: No, no, and you know who does make money like that?
- 16:45Speaker 5: When you see people like flow, that flow is the
- 16:49Speaker 5: face of progressive. That is a contract. That is a contract.
- 16:54Speaker 5: Yeah shitever you don't hear that is a contract. But
- 16:56Speaker 5: when you see like even when you see me like
- 16:58Speaker 5: on Life Safe from a swat, I've done there the
- 17:01Speaker 5: four shows and like less than four months. It's been
- 17:04Speaker 5: a great year. But each of those, all I do
- 17:06Speaker 5: was piggyback off the quotes, off the quotes, off the quotes.
- 17:09Speaker 5: And now I'm at a point where it's like, Okay,
- 17:12Speaker 5: give you why I'm cheap, and you better do it
- 17:14Speaker 5: because I know where I'm go And even if that
- 17:17Speaker 5: doesn't pop the way I needed to pop, it is
- 17:18Speaker 5: why I start writing and to producer to the next year.
- 17:21Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. You gotta control your destiny.
- 17:24Speaker 3: You gotta control your faith.
- 17:25Speaker 5: And the bad part about it is is that as
- 17:27Speaker 5: African Americans, we have we've been dumbed down to believe
- 17:31Speaker 5: that we can't do a lot of things that we
- 17:33Speaker 5: can because all movies are is telling stories, and they
- 17:38Speaker 5: make us believe only stories we can tell us about
- 17:41Speaker 5: cracking in the cities, somebody Mama or Daddy being goom.
- 17:44Speaker 4: All that is is not it's like the slavery time period.
- 17:48Speaker 4: It's like we never get to tell the static social exactly.
- 17:51Speaker 4: It's enough though, it's enough. Everybody does not come from poverty.
- 17:55Speaker 4: All these things. It's not the truth. But every time something.
- 17:59Speaker 5: Gets championed, are highlighted, it's gotta be about negative things
- 18:04Speaker 5: or slavery or whatever.
- 18:05Speaker 3: When we people just like anybody else, you know. And
- 18:08Speaker 3: that's why.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Us it's so good because what happens is as African
- 18:13Speaker 5: American writers, we feel like we gotta put on the shelf.
- 18:15Speaker 5: So instead of laughing with us, you're laughing at us.
- 18:18Speaker 5: When you usually see a white company, you're just laughing
- 18:20Speaker 5: at their comedy. You'll never be like, oh, I'm gonna
- 18:22Speaker 5: watch a white movie because I'm but you gonna watch
- 18:27Speaker 5: a black film. And that's what I think us did.
- 18:29Speaker 5: It took those color lines off because we didn't need
- 18:31Speaker 5: the Hey, you didn't see nobody saddy.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Adn't see no guns. It was just a black family
- 18:36Speaker 3: just done it all, you know what, and that was it.
- 18:39Speaker 5: And you didn't say, oh, it's a black movie because
- 18:42Speaker 5: there was no reminiants of that.
- 18:43Speaker 3: You know, everybody was just happening. Yeah, it was. It
- 18:46Speaker 3: was dope.
- 18:47Speaker 4: But it was like I think China had this conversation,
- 18:50Speaker 4: like when we watched the Insecurity, it was like, yo,
- 18:53Speaker 4: black professionals like those are like the women that we
- 18:55Speaker 4: are going same, but the things we're waiting for that
- 18:58Speaker 4: and next thing, it's like yo, young black men else
- 19:00Speaker 4: we're doing similar things, have great stories. Don't comfort poverty?
- 19:03Speaker 4: Who never saw drugs? Why professionals like.
- 19:06Speaker 3: We need that. It's coming, it's coming, It's it's coming.
- 19:09Speaker 5: Is And I'm almost ashamed because when I saw Black Panther,
- 19:17Speaker 5: I had never seen black so beautiful. I just had
- 19:20Speaker 5: like a baldhead black woman looking that like the whole cast, right,
- 19:26Speaker 5: the whole cast. I'm just like wow. And it was
- 19:28Speaker 5: like first I was ashamed with it. I was like,
- 19:30Speaker 5: my whole life, I have never seen that my whole life.
- 19:33Speaker 5: I have never seen black is beautiful on that level.
- 19:36Speaker 5: We're talking about superheroes the whole time.
- 19:39Speaker 3: You see in Superman, Batman, all these other people, which
- 19:41Speaker 3: is cool.
- 19:42Speaker 5: I'm not hating on it. But to see it and
- 19:45Speaker 5: we be this old and have to take a breath
- 19:47Speaker 5: like wow, it.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Just shows you what happens.
- 19:50Speaker 5: And then now you start to see that we can
- 19:52Speaker 5: tell our own stories, we can start producing. Because that,
- 19:56Speaker 5: I would say is what changed me as an actor,
- 19:59Speaker 5: because I was like, you know what, up, I can
- 20:01Speaker 5: tell my story. My story is from Oakland. My story
- 20:04Speaker 5: is about my family, my little sister of my baby
- 20:07Speaker 5: sister has breast cancer. There's a lot of things going
- 20:09Speaker 5: on in Oakland that I don't approve of, but I
- 20:12Speaker 5: feel like I had a hand in that because I'm a.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Very educated person. I'm very well spoken.
- 20:16Speaker 5: But if if everybody who has talent leaves the city,
- 20:22Speaker 5: and that's what we just hand back, who's.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Walk is at? And that that leads us to our
- 20:28Speaker 3: next segment.
- 20:29Speaker 2: We're gonna talk about what you're doing behind the scenes
- 20:31Speaker 2: and also the town oh until job?
- 20:35Speaker 3: All right?
- 20:35Speaker 2: So okay, so now we talked about you know, your
- 20:39Speaker 2: journey and getting into Hollywood and the journey of any actor,
- 20:43Speaker 2: but we want to get behind the scenes as well.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Right, So you are not just an actor, you're a producer.
- 20:48Speaker 2: As well, right, And you got a couple of interesting
- 20:51Speaker 2: projects that you're working on.
- 20:53Speaker 3: We're gonna get to that, but all right, can.
- 20:55Speaker 2: You talk about your journey from being an actor to
- 20:58Speaker 2: wanting to be a producer and so how that looks
- 21:01Speaker 2: because now that's strictly like you got to be a
- 21:04Speaker 2: businessman or woman to be an actor, right because you
- 21:06Speaker 2: got to be on top of.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Your petn Q.
- 21:07Speaker 2: But if you're a producer, you definitely have to be
- 21:10Speaker 2: because that's what it is. Right Like now you're actually
- 21:13Speaker 2: you know, have a budget. You got to allocate that budget.
- 21:16Speaker 2: You got to try to get the budget, you got
- 21:18Speaker 2: to know how much money. You gotta have proposals and
- 21:20Speaker 2: all that stuff. So that is actually even to me
- 21:24Speaker 2: even more important because you the purple person behind the
- 21:28Speaker 2: camera has more power than the person in front of
- 21:30Speaker 2: the cameras. And this is why we talk about images
- 21:32Speaker 2: as far like what you just said about black Panther
- 21:34Speaker 2: and how we're portrayed, you know, in the media and
- 21:37Speaker 2: all that stuff, is because the person behind the camera
- 21:40Speaker 2: for so long didn't look like us, right, so they
- 21:43Speaker 2: can they can dictate whatever they want as a narrative.
- 21:46Speaker 2: It's concerna right, So can you talk about the journey
- 21:50Speaker 2: behind the camera and what that looks like from your perspective,
- 21:55Speaker 2: because I'm sure it's interesting. You know, you're learning as
- 21:57Speaker 2: your goal, so I'm pretty sure it. Well, one thing
- 22:02Speaker 2: we want to express. First is what happens.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Between a movie and a book, which you will also
- 22:10Speaker 5: relate to Instagram. If we all watch a movie or
- 22:15Speaker 5: see the same post, our mind's eye has been forced
- 22:19Speaker 5: to see the same thing, right.
- 22:22Speaker 3: But if you get a book, we can all read
- 22:25Speaker 3: the same book.
- 22:26Speaker 5: But if we broke down that girl in it, the guy,
- 22:30Speaker 5: even the dog, everybody's opinion of that will look so
- 22:34Speaker 5: different interpretation, right. And see, that's the problem with the
- 22:39Speaker 5: world we live in today. Everybody's allowing people to force
- 22:43Speaker 5: their opinions just by watching stuff. So what I wanted
- 22:48Speaker 5: to do was once I realized that, I'm like, yo,
- 22:51Speaker 5: it's such a visual world.
- 22:52Speaker 3: That's why Instagram is flourishing, because you know what I mean,
- 22:56Speaker 3: People just want to see. People just want to see,
- 22:58Speaker 3: They want to see, they want to see.
- 22:59Speaker 5: And that's why I don't have tons of Instagram followers
- 23:02Speaker 5: because I just still want to be part of that world.
- 23:04Speaker 5: I just did not want to be part of that
- 23:06Speaker 5: world as as long as I've been doing it. Like
- 23:07Speaker 5: if you look at my credits, like if I wanted
- 23:09Speaker 5: to do that, I could have did that when I
- 23:10Speaker 5: was on tour, but I didn't want to be like, hey,
- 23:13Speaker 5: get this picture with me, either to me, you know, and.
- 23:16Speaker 3: A struggle behind was still struggle. You know.
- 23:19Speaker 5: I had bought the property, but to keep up property
- 23:21Speaker 5: it's hard too. I had people moving in and moving
- 23:23Speaker 5: out on me, all of that. But once I realized
- 23:27Speaker 5: that visually things changed lives, I said, Okay, either you could,
- 23:32Speaker 5: you know, you could either do it or don't because
- 23:35Speaker 5: it's going to leave you behind. So how do you
- 23:36Speaker 5: change people's opinion about it or how do you make
- 23:40Speaker 5: yourself feel good about doing it? And the only way
- 23:42Speaker 5: I have to do that was to tell my story,
- 23:43Speaker 5: to tell what I knew first, because once I understand anything,
- 23:47Speaker 5: and not to go off track.
- 23:49Speaker 3: But I just got an amazing job, an amazing job.
- 23:51Speaker 5: I work as an IT tech where we install smartphones
- 23:55Speaker 5: and security for celebrities and major companies. And when I
- 23:59Speaker 5: saw all these wires, all this stuff, I'm like, yo,
- 24:03Speaker 5: I'm gonna.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Get fired next week. This is around, I'm gonna lose
- 24:06Speaker 3: the best job I got in a week.
- 24:08Speaker 5: But as I started to understand it and understanding it,
- 24:13Speaker 5: I'm rocking.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Now, you know what I mean? I feel like they
- 24:15Speaker 3: do that to us with too stocks.
- 24:16Speaker 5: They make us not understand it all these all these
- 24:19Speaker 5: words they use so you don't understand anyway, But now
- 24:22Speaker 5: I understand.
- 24:22Speaker 3: So when I said, was look, I'll tell.
- 24:24Speaker 5: My story in a way that makes me feel comfortable
- 24:28Speaker 5: and it opens the eyes to things. And I feel
- 24:31Speaker 5: like Oakland right now is being like taken over. I
- 24:34Speaker 5: feel like my city is being like literally ripped. Nothing
- 24:38Speaker 5: from the the original Oakland will be there. The raiders
- 24:42Speaker 5: are going, the warriors are going. All these things are happening.
- 24:44Speaker 5: So I was like, listen, how do I how do
- 24:47Speaker 5: I show my point of view? So I just start writing.
- 24:50Speaker 5: I just start writing. You know, I know the pain
- 24:52Speaker 5: come from my family because, like I said, my family
- 24:55Speaker 5: was never broken. You know, I never had a broken family.
- 24:58Speaker 5: My parents did a divorced to till two years ago, you.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Know what I mean. But they were together. My mom
- 25:03Speaker 3: had me at sixteen, you know what I'm saying. So
- 25:06Speaker 3: you know their separation is you know, on them.
- 25:10Speaker 5: But everybody poured so much love into me when I
- 25:13Speaker 5: was home, and when they told me to go, that's
- 25:15Speaker 5: all I did. I never looked back once, you know
- 25:19Speaker 5: what I mean. And when you leave a piece of
- 25:21Speaker 5: a puzzle leaves I feel like there's a gap and
- 25:24Speaker 5: that's what I'm just trying to fix now. So on
- 25:26Speaker 5: this producing side, I can't say that I'm a master
- 25:29Speaker 5: producer or even a master writer. I just know that
- 25:31Speaker 5: I'm a good captain. I know, I know I hired
- 25:33Speaker 5: the appropriate people to do it, and I know that
- 25:36Speaker 5: I speak with enough passion and.
- 25:38Speaker 3: They believe me. They don't just jump on and be like, Oh,
- 25:40Speaker 3: I'm gonna do it. Oh I'm gonna do this. No,
- 25:42Speaker 3: I don't know how to do this. Can you help me?
- 25:45Speaker 3: That's what I can't do that that's important right now?
- 25:48Speaker 3: Help me? And knowing that is important, right, you know what,
- 25:50Speaker 3: I'm not great at this. Let me find somebody who
- 25:52Speaker 3: is great.
- 25:53Speaker 4: And the fact that you're even doing it and acknowledge
- 25:55Speaker 4: them is like the inspiration behind it, right because they
- 25:58Speaker 4: might be a kid that's watching, like, you know what,
- 26:00Speaker 4: he did it, He's from here.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I got a chance, right, you know what I'm saying.
- 26:04Speaker 3: And that's that's dope.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Like when you're doing you're doing the work, but you
- 26:07Speaker 4: don't know that the impact that it's happening a trillions,
- 26:09Speaker 4: even barns, that's dope.
- 26:11Speaker 3: And then financially, on the financial side of it.
- 26:13Speaker 5: You are one hundred percent correct, because what happens is
- 26:16Speaker 5: is me sitting behind the camera saying, Okay, this project
- 26:20Speaker 5: may cost me one hundred thousand dollars, and if I'm
- 26:22Speaker 5: gonna get that hundred dollars, and I'm gonna take it
- 26:24Speaker 5: out and say my condo that I own, now, that's
- 26:27Speaker 5: my money.
- 26:29Speaker 3: That's my money. So now you're sitting behind.
- 26:31Speaker 5: This camera saying, who's gonna do the best job to
- 26:33Speaker 5: get me my money back?
- 26:35Speaker 3: That's what every actor needs to understand. You're coming up
- 26:38Speaker 3: in this game.
- 26:39Speaker 5: I don't care who you are. My job behind that camera.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Everybody's on this side. Who's gonna get our money back?
- 26:47Speaker 5: You could be a better actor, but that dude has
- 26:50Speaker 5: a name, So don't go beat yourself up. I want
- 26:53Speaker 5: my everybody want their money back. I don't do it
- 26:55Speaker 5: for the love of it. If I put one hundred
- 26:57Speaker 5: thousand dollars in, I at least better get my money
- 27:00Speaker 5: that And I think a lot of actors get in
- 27:02Speaker 5: this game think about themselves or in the business side,
- 27:05Speaker 5: because I did too.
- 27:06Speaker 3: That's all I was thinking about, Like, yo, I want
- 27:08Speaker 3: to do this, I want to do some own this.
- 27:09Speaker 3: When I would have.
- 27:09Speaker 5: Really thought about the business and say, listen, you got
- 27:13Speaker 5: to see it from their eyes and see what they
- 27:15Speaker 5: want to be seen as opposed to you just trying
- 27:17Speaker 5: to be this character, because when you understand the investment,
- 27:20Speaker 5: then you put a little bit more blessed well and
- 27:22Speaker 5: tears into that character because it's like, listen, you got
- 27:25Speaker 5: to be the best.
- 27:26Speaker 3: If I'm putting my money on you. Yeah, I'm put
- 27:29Speaker 3: my money on you.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Well, let me ask you so, all right, if I'm
- 27:31Speaker 2: a kid in college or high school, whatever, and I
- 27:33Speaker 2: have dreams of writing a show for Netflix or a
- 27:37Speaker 2: movie or whatever, how would I go about raising money?
- 27:41Speaker 3: What avenues is it to actually raise.
- 27:44Speaker 5: Money to you know, put a project together? I would say,
- 27:50Speaker 5: do not do not go around trying to raise money.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Submerge yourself in the craft.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Whatever it is you're doing.
- 27:59Speaker 5: When you you know it's right, when it's at the
- 28:02Speaker 5: level it needs to be at, the money will come.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Submerge yourself in that. Like you gotta find like you
- 28:07Speaker 5: need to be in a class.
- 28:08Speaker 3: You need to be in this. You needs to be
- 28:09Speaker 3: in that.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Because I'm telling you whenever whenever I'm not feeling good
- 28:12Speaker 5: is because I have I've stepped out of bounds. I'm
- 28:15Speaker 5: not in the gym. I'm not an acting class. I'm
- 28:17Speaker 5: not doing the things that I need to do to
- 28:19Speaker 5: do it. But I promise you, when you stay in
- 28:22Speaker 5: the when you stay in the cipher, it comes out
- 28:24Speaker 5: of the woolworks and when you got something good too.
- 28:26Speaker 5: Some people got to understand when bullshit is bullshit and
- 28:30Speaker 5: God can't.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Help you it, don't take you gotta take these tips.
- 28:34Speaker 3: If you ain't got the shit right, you know what
- 28:36Speaker 3: I mean. But if you got a product.
- 28:39Speaker 5: And you stay with it, and you stay humble, and
- 28:41Speaker 5: you stay just pressing it, fixing it, press it and
- 28:44Speaker 5: fix it, trying to raise.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Money, don't let that be your focus.
- 28:49Speaker 5: Make sure that make sure that that thing that you're
- 28:51Speaker 5: doing is as good as it can be. Like that's
- 28:54Speaker 5: why when I when I wrote that, when I wrote
- 28:56Speaker 5: the Town and then I put it out there, it
- 28:59Speaker 5: was like you delivering a baby out into the world.
- 29:02Speaker 5: And then when people was like, yo, this is fire,
- 29:04Speaker 5: I was like, that was my first time out the gate.
- 29:07Speaker 5: What can I do? What else can I do? So
- 29:10Speaker 5: I would say, don't don't focus on money, don't focus
- 29:14Speaker 5: on other people's ideas of what you're doing.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Just make it the best it could be.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Even an acting people are like, oh, give me a
- 29:20Speaker 5: tip on this, or give me a tip on that.
- 29:21Speaker 5: I was like, no, how do I find an agent? No,
- 29:24Speaker 5: go to a class that is a good class. Not
- 29:26Speaker 5: because they got this huge name. Wasting all your money.
- 29:30Speaker 5: Not wasting all your money because you going people being
- 29:33Speaker 5: a thousand dollars of acting classes and barely even going up.
- 29:36Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying, don't do that. What you
- 29:38Speaker 5: want to do is dumb down your life. Dumb down
- 29:42Speaker 5: your life so that you can really see what's what
- 29:45Speaker 5: you know what I mean, So you can say, hey,
- 29:47Speaker 5: you know what, I'm wasting money on this, I'm wasting
- 29:50Speaker 5: money on that.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Live less so you can live more, you know what
- 29:53Speaker 3: I mean. Start to really break those down.
- 29:55Speaker 5: The mint app is huge, Like people worry about, oh
- 29:58Speaker 5: I don't know how to like thous my books or
- 30:00Speaker 5: you notice the men that you put your bank account
- 30:02Speaker 5: stuff in there, it'll show me.
- 30:04Speaker 3: And it was baffling to me. I was like, oh,
- 30:06Speaker 3: you know, I'm not spending that much money. I'm okay,
- 30:08Speaker 3: it's only like ten thousand, ten dollars there fifteen to
- 30:10Speaker 3: twenty when men put it up. It's like, Yo, you
- 30:12Speaker 3: spent eight hundred dollars on leisure.
- 30:15Speaker 5: I'm like, no, I didn't. That's impossible. Yeah, and put
- 30:18Speaker 5: when you can see it, it's there because we got it. Yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 5: And so ask you a question. Focus on the passion,
- 30:23Speaker 5: because when you focus on the passion, I promise you
- 30:26Speaker 5: the universe is going to work in your favor.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Because that's that's important. Man.
- 30:31Speaker 4: So I'm going back to the part where like from
- 30:33Speaker 4: a financial standpoint, how somebody can get into acting as
- 30:36Speaker 4: far as raising and dedicating themselves to the craft. But
- 30:40Speaker 4: you said before you got to cal State Northridge, there
- 30:43Speaker 4: was a program that you were in for acting. Absolutely, yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 4: you talk about that little bit, summer Bridge program. Summer
- 30:49Speaker 4: Bridge program saved my life.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:52Speaker 5: What happens is summer Bridge program only takes something I
- 30:55Speaker 5: think maybe one hundred students or whatnot. They only take
- 30:57Speaker 5: actually thirty abroad, and then they keep the other ones
- 30:59Speaker 5: right here Los Angeles and they take the kids who.
- 31:03Speaker 3: You know had the numbers and you know, maybe had
- 31:05Speaker 3: the grades but just.
- 31:06Speaker 5: You know, either one thing didn't work out or you know,
- 31:09Speaker 5: they knew they wouldn't get into the colleges they needed immediately.
- 31:12Speaker 5: So you go into the Summer Ridge program, which allows
- 31:14Speaker 5: you to go to the college that summer before your
- 31:19Speaker 5: first year.
- 31:21Speaker 3: So it just it.
- 31:22Speaker 5: Changed everything about me going into college because I had
- 31:27Speaker 5: a group of kids. It was about eighty of us,
- 31:29Speaker 5: and we had Pan African studies, we had one of
- 31:34Speaker 5: the history classes in one of the elective classes. All
- 31:37Speaker 5: of us we started with a chip on our shoulder anyway,
- 31:40Speaker 5: because we felt like we should have got in the
- 31:42Speaker 5: way everybody else got in.
- 31:44Speaker 3: But when you know you're.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Going against people who know exactly how to get into college,
- 31:51Speaker 5: I just wasn't taught that, you know. I thought I
- 31:53Speaker 5: thought I was good, you know, but you don't know
- 31:55Speaker 5: that you're going against everybody else. Indeed, you going against
- 31:57Speaker 5: everybody in the United States. So it really helps me
- 32:01Speaker 5: out in one way because A got me into college.
- 32:05Speaker 3: B It gave me a home.
- 32:08Speaker 5: I felt at home before I happen to deal with
- 32:10Speaker 5: this big college thing, you.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Know, Oh my god, I'm going to college. Didn't feel
- 32:15Speaker 3: like that. It felt like I was in.
- 32:16Speaker 5: High school still because I had this group of people
- 32:19Speaker 5: that was with me before, and then we had our
- 32:22Speaker 5: own rais, which is a resident advisor so when we
- 32:24Speaker 5: came in our freshman year, we was kind of like sophomores.
- 32:27Speaker 5: People was coming to us asking us questions like, oh,
- 32:30Speaker 5: how you get here or how you do this? We
- 32:31Speaker 5: were like, oh, you're trying to get over there, it's
- 32:33Speaker 5: right there. Oh the lunshrow is right here. Then you
- 32:35Speaker 5: got your crew, so you feel you feel safer in
- 32:38Speaker 5: a safer environment when you already have your classes and
- 32:43Speaker 5: the professors was like hand on, the resident advices was
- 32:45Speaker 5: hand on.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Whatever your weakness was, they had people.
- 32:48Speaker 5: There to literally help you do it, like literally, like
- 32:52Speaker 5: anything that you were bad at, they weren't letting you
- 32:54Speaker 5: out of there with being.
- 32:56Speaker 3: That same weakness.
- 32:57Speaker 4: That's because a lot of the people don't have that
- 32:59Speaker 4: old things when they go to college.
- 33:01Speaker 3: So like the programs like that. Definitely, the summer Ridge
- 33:03Speaker 3: is big. Summer Ridges big.
- 33:05Speaker 5: And then I was gone, like I didn't have that
- 33:07Speaker 5: time to even think about, oh I might not do it,
- 33:09Speaker 5: so I may not do that.
- 33:10Speaker 3: One week after I graduated, I was gone. I ain't
- 33:13Speaker 3: never been that to.
- 33:14Speaker 5: Open sens not I mean, not to live obviously, you know,
- 33:17Speaker 5: to visit vand but since I left, it was like
- 33:21Speaker 5: I ain't going back to open you know what I mean.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Now, what you said was key as far as and
- 33:25Speaker 2: we said that at the time, you gotta stay down
- 33:26Speaker 2: til you come up as far as don't work. It's
- 33:28Speaker 2: interesting you said don't worry about getting funded in because
- 33:31Speaker 2: a lot of people dm us and because we you know,
- 33:33Speaker 2: we talk about the streaming walls, right but Apple getting
- 33:37Speaker 2: and streaming and Netflix and Fox and all that stuff.
- 33:40Speaker 3: So right now it's a good time, I.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Think for creators because there's a lot of different opportunities,
- 33:46Speaker 2: right And people they asked that question. That's why I
- 33:49Speaker 2: asked you. People were like, well, how did idea? But
- 33:51Speaker 2: how do I get in front of Netflix or how
- 33:52Speaker 2: do I get in front of Amazon? How do I
- 33:55Speaker 2: get in front of Apple? Where I can you know,
- 33:57Speaker 2: pitch this and get a series. But your thing is,
- 33:59Speaker 2: don't worry about just put out have a good quality
- 34:02Speaker 2: product first.
- 34:05Speaker 3: The energy will just align with the universe has a.
- 34:07Speaker 5: RELI it's meant to be absolutely I mean, I mean,
- 34:09Speaker 5: that's that's just what I believe, because there's no way
- 34:13Speaker 5: that if you're giving your absolute off, if you're giving
- 34:16Speaker 5: everything and I mean ten toes down, if you're giving everything,
- 34:20Speaker 5: it just it just doesn't.
- 34:21Speaker 3: It doesn't work. The world doesn't work like that.
- 34:23Speaker 5: But it's very hard to give your absolute awe to
- 34:26Speaker 5: cut out. I mean all of the like the Bull
- 34:29Speaker 5: really focused on it, like be able to put that
- 34:32Speaker 5: script or idea out, get notes, redo it, do it again,
- 34:37Speaker 5: get notes. Like it took a year and a half
- 34:38Speaker 5: for me to actually get the script in everything that
- 34:40Speaker 5: I have down, then to get the numbers and say,
- 34:43Speaker 5: you know what, this is.
- 34:45Speaker 3: A million dollar script.
- 34:46Speaker 5: Maybe I can't have that hospital scene, maybe I can't
- 34:49Speaker 5: have that air force scene. You start to really say,
- 34:51Speaker 5: how do I've done this down to the minimum viable product?
- 34:53Speaker 3: People see if I get this thing actually done?
- 34:56Speaker 5: And then once you start seeing that, it just changed
- 34:58Speaker 5: your perspective on every thing, like even don't don't don't
- 35:01Speaker 5: eat football. These networks, the streaming and Netflix, because you
- 35:05Speaker 5: don't get paid like you get paid with network.
- 35:06Speaker 3: It's a streaming thing.
- 35:08Speaker 4: So it's way different with caps because it based on
- 35:10Speaker 4: the numbers of the people who who actually consumed it.
- 35:14Speaker 5: Those contracts ain't are nothing to doing none of that
- 35:16Speaker 5: like people like on a smaller scale, when Netflix produce
- 35:20Speaker 5: something like you're getting paid whatever they pay you that
- 35:23Speaker 5: don't have nothing to do with anything else. Only time
- 35:25Speaker 5: you really start getting like power like that, like real
- 35:28Speaker 5: power is like when you start getting second and third seasons,
- 35:31Speaker 5: because now you can be like, you know what I
- 35:34Speaker 5: was leave and they know that you're a pivotal part
- 35:37Speaker 5: in that in that you know that series are or
- 35:39Speaker 5: that movie, that franchise. Now you got all the power,
- 35:43Speaker 5: you got the juice. But until then, until people start
- 35:46Speaker 5: watching like that, you're at the mercy of you know.
- 35:50Speaker 3: I think that's one of the one of.
- 35:52Speaker 5: The misconceptions, right, you know what I mean, because people
- 35:54Speaker 5: will see people doing stuff they don't realize like that
- 35:57Speaker 5: person is struggling, Like like I'm doing well right now,
- 36:00Speaker 5: but I'm only doing well because of the avenues of
- 36:03Speaker 5: money that I have. Like that condo I have is
- 36:06Speaker 5: paying for not only itself, but the place I live.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Like I also still work.
- 36:11Speaker 5: I got a voice over studio in my house, you know,
- 36:14Speaker 5: and then I still got a job that lets me
- 36:16Speaker 5: go and come as out you know.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Please, So multiple strings of hell yeah yeah.
- 36:19Speaker 5: So it's like when you humble yourself, it changes your perspective.
- 36:23Speaker 5: I had to work at Costco just because things was
- 36:26Speaker 5: just getting rough and I was like, you need to
- 36:27Speaker 5: get off this.
- 36:28Speaker 3: High horse man.
- 36:29Speaker 5: You know, you went around, run around with celebrities, thought
- 36:32Speaker 5: you was cool doing all this, and now look what
- 36:34Speaker 5: you got. You talking about Quinn act and you talking
- 36:37Speaker 5: about you might think about going back to open but
- 36:38Speaker 5: you've done this. You dumbed that hole for yourself, trying
- 36:41Speaker 5: to be flied. And then when I had to go
- 36:43Speaker 5: back to when I had to go back to work
- 36:46Speaker 5: at night, working at Costco, it humbled me, you know
- 36:50Speaker 5: what I mean, And it made me realize the energy
- 36:54Speaker 5: and the power that I had to meet because you
- 36:55Speaker 5: had people just working in there like why are you
- 36:56Speaker 5: working here?
- 36:57Speaker 3: Because I was stupid for my year to have doing
- 36:59Speaker 3: stupid shit.
- 37:00Speaker 5: It everybody want to give you the answers, and then
- 37:02Speaker 5: you start appreciating, is this what I.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Want to do my whole life?
- 37:05Speaker 5: You said you want to do something, you told yourself
- 37:07Speaker 5: you came in for a reason, and you you to turn.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Off that step. And then once you realize that I
- 37:12Speaker 3: don't want to have to do this.
- 37:14Speaker 5: As at some point in my life I want to
- 37:17Speaker 5: what I want a kid, and this is the profession
- 37:20Speaker 5: I chose. So if you ain't gonna be all in,
- 37:22Speaker 5: you need to just quit so you can do something else.
- 37:23Speaker 5: Because I'm very talented. I can do a lot of things,
- 37:25Speaker 5: and working regular jobs, regular stuff is what gave me
- 37:29Speaker 5: the passion and desire to push forwards.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Like I can't do this, I cannot do this every day.
- 37:34Speaker 5: And then I took all my auditions, everything out, everything
- 37:36Speaker 5: else in my life.
- 37:37Speaker 3: I took so much more serious. So when you said,
- 37:40Speaker 3: all right, I just thought about something. Streaming. When we
- 37:42Speaker 3: think about streaming's first thing the music business, right, how
- 37:45Speaker 3: many streams you give?
- 37:46Speaker 2: You make money per stream small amount, even YouTube you
- 37:49Speaker 2: make money per like stream well listen right, but Netflix doesn't.
- 37:54Speaker 2: It doesn't work like that. Huh, like it does. It
- 37:55Speaker 2: doesn't matter how many people actually watch your show. You
- 37:58Speaker 2: just get a lot some of money whatever.
- 38:00Speaker 5: That what you signed is what you signed that I'm
- 38:03Speaker 5: only talking about on the I I mean.
- 38:05Speaker 3: No, because that's it's just how actor goes. You don't.
- 38:07Speaker 3: You don't unless it's inked and you're the lead and
- 38:09Speaker 3: you already have a name.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Yeah, then maybe it's like, okay, we can pay this
- 38:13Speaker 5: on the back end, or we can do this. But
- 38:15Speaker 5: when you go in the negotiations happened.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Before you even touched the set.
- 38:20Speaker 4: It's like it's like bird Box, Yeah, like they signed
- 38:23Speaker 4: the contract to do Birdbodes.
- 38:25Speaker 3: The response is so crazy like that. It's like the number.
- 38:30Speaker 3: But it's part too. We're gonna need something that. Now.
- 38:32Speaker 5: That's when you start having a power and it's like, okay,
- 38:35Speaker 5: here's part two. Well I won't do it unless this,
- 38:38Speaker 5: and they're like, well how about this? Okay, well how
- 38:40Speaker 5: about that?
- 38:42Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Because that's the same thing
- 38:43Speaker 3: with like pilot season. Real quick, it's like, pilot.
- 38:45Speaker 5: Season is one of the biggest parts of the year
- 38:47Speaker 5: for actors and the people trying to get these things done.
- 38:49Speaker 5: People don't know what pilot's going to pop. So you
- 38:53Speaker 5: could book a pilot, but they don't get picked up.
- 38:55Speaker 5: You book a pilot, it gets aired and get cut
- 38:58Speaker 5: in the third week, and nobody thought was going to rock.
- 39:02Speaker 5: It's like, you know what I mean, something that was
- 39:07Speaker 5: gonna go because it was a book and stuff. Some
- 39:09Speaker 5: of the stuff that people just take a chance on,
- 39:12Speaker 5: some of the ones that just just you be like, wow,
- 39:16Speaker 5: eight season and I.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Say that to myself. I just saw like a cancelation list.
- 39:21Speaker 3: It just came up what is it list?
- 39:24Speaker 4: And I'm looking at it, I'm like, Wow, that's going
- 39:26Speaker 4: too Oh, that's going okay. You never know who That's
- 39:30Speaker 4: why I got a quick question, because you're writing and

- 41:11Speaker 6: and C Bank Brilliantly Boring since eighteen sixty five. Brilliantly

- 41:26Speaker 7: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 41:30Speaker 7: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 41:34Speaker 7: accused of murdering a Texas. Man of Venezuelan charged with
- 41:38Speaker 7: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 41:42Speaker 7: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 41:46Speaker 7: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy nom the United States
- 41:49Speaker 7: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 41:54Speaker 7: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 41:58Speaker 7: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 42:01Speaker 7: are here illegally, you're next. You will be fine nearly
- 42:05Speaker 7: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned and deported, you will
- 42:09Speaker 7: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 42:13Speaker 7: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 42:17Speaker 7: Do what's right, leave now. Under President Trump, America's laws,
- 42:21Speaker 7: border and families will be protected.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 42:26Speaker 4: And when we talk about music, right, the person who
- 42:29Speaker 4: writes directord gets paid the president producers if you paid.
- 42:32Speaker 4: So if you have a project and you're doing all
- 42:34Speaker 4: those things, those are another those are poems of income.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Right.
- 42:37Speaker 4: So like you do your own project right, you produce
- 42:40Speaker 4: it directed and you starting it, we're talking four different
- 42:43Speaker 4: chains of income. You are, but you aren't because in
- 42:48Speaker 4: the beginning doing all those things, you're wearing nows hats.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Because you're trying to save that money. Doesn't what else right?
- 42:55Speaker 5: Because you want the project to be at its best.
- 43:01Speaker 3: So even if somebody does, because right now.
- 43:03Speaker 5: I'm pitching and I'm having pitch meetings, I'm talking and
- 43:05Speaker 5: they're like, Okay.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Well what if you know what two hundred thousand episode work?
- 43:09Speaker 3: So that's what you got.
- 43:10Speaker 5: You have that two hundred thousand dollars to produce that
- 43:13Speaker 5: entire episode. So I could be like, shit, well i'm
- 43:16Speaker 5: the director, I'll take that. I'm starting, I'll take that
- 43:19Speaker 5: and also erode it. Now you're down fifty grand. Now
- 43:22Speaker 5: your project to your project has sacrificed because you could
- 43:27Speaker 5: have put that into maybe some more wardrobe, another location,
- 43:30Speaker 5: of those things like that are giving it to the
- 43:33Speaker 5: cast member.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Maybe you only want one strong lead.
- 43:35Speaker 5: That fifty you took, you could have gained that to
- 43:38Speaker 5: that person because you know they're going to bring eyes
- 43:41Speaker 5: to that. So it's on two sides of it once
- 43:43Speaker 5: you kind of get up there, yes, but in the
- 43:46Speaker 5: beginning you need to take that hell in the beginning
- 43:49Speaker 5: so you can do justice. If you believe in your projects.
- 43:52Speaker 5: Some people don't care. Some people like, yeah, i'll put
- 43:54Speaker 5: it out whatever, if you pay.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Me out to take a check, that's your side. You
- 43:58Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, take the check and run.
- 43:59Speaker 5: But if you're invested and you believe in your project,
- 44:01Speaker 5: you want to stay there from start to finish it
- 44:03Speaker 5: because people can people try to tinure with my project?
- 44:06Speaker 5: Are you okay with not being the lead? Can we
- 44:09Speaker 5: not have it in Oakland? It's a lot of things,
- 44:11Speaker 5: and it's just like, what are you willing to sacrifice
- 44:14Speaker 5: it in this project? I don't want to be in
- 44:16Speaker 5: too much because it's a passion project for me. It's
- 44:18Speaker 5: about my family, it's about Oakland. It's about a lot
- 44:21Speaker 5: of things that people really need to hear because it's
- 44:23Speaker 5: like the newspaper.
- 44:25Speaker 3: You can read the bullshit if you want to, but
- 44:26Speaker 3: if you really want to know, you gotta dig. No,
- 44:29Speaker 3: I'm glad you said that. That leads us right to
- 44:31Speaker 3: our next topic.
- 44:34Speaker 2: All right, so we talked about a few things, but
- 44:36Speaker 2: now we're.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Going to talk about a few different things.
- 44:39Speaker 2: But if they all tie into each other, don't talk
- 44:40Speaker 2: about real estate and we want talk about a gificcation.
- 44:42Speaker 2: We want talk about your project, and they're all tie
- 44:45Speaker 2: into each other. Right, So you're working on a project.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Now about the town locally, right, And you.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Was telling us off camera and some interesting thing because
- 44:53Speaker 2: you know, like I said, one of.
- 44:54Speaker 3: The things about art show is sports and entertainment.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Sports, right, So if anybody's a sports fan, you know
- 44:59Speaker 2: that Oakland a lot of teams are leaving Oakland, right,
- 45:03Speaker 2: So the Raiders leaving, the Warriors, this is their last
- 45:06Speaker 2: season playing in Oakland and moving to San Francisco. And
- 45:10Speaker 2: there's even rumors that at the Oakland a's me leave
- 45:14Speaker 2: all right, right, So but you I didn't really think
- 45:17Speaker 2: about it until you actually broke it down as far.
- 45:19Speaker 3: As the play behind that. So can you just talk.
- 45:22Speaker 2: About that because it's interesting and it also ties into
- 45:25Speaker 2: your series.
- 45:26Speaker 5: We're talking about well, I mean, this is all you know, hearsay,
- 45:31Speaker 5: but facts sounds like facts, then it's more than like
- 45:34Speaker 5: the facts. San Francisco is the most expensive place to
- 45:38Speaker 5: live in America because of the tech world. It's literally
- 45:41Speaker 5: bombing and San Francisco is pull up like there's no
- 45:45Speaker 5: more space. They can't build any more skyts, papers, they can't,
- 45:50Speaker 5: they can't put people in the old ships.
- 45:52Speaker 3: People are gonna.
- 45:53Speaker 5: Start like camping on the bridge and the next place
- 45:57Speaker 5: over is Oakland. Now everybody's all caught up into the
- 46:02Speaker 5: whole of what's happening, but they're not listening to the
- 46:06Speaker 5: real reasoning of why, Like all of a sudden, the
- 46:09Speaker 5: Raiders had a great season before car got hurt.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Why would you do that? The Warriors have never been
- 46:14Speaker 3: as good as.
- 46:15Speaker 5: They are ever ever, So right, we'll talk about that.
- 46:23Speaker 5: So now you've got the Raiders going to Vegas, You've
- 46:28Speaker 5: got the Gold the State Warriors going to San Francisco.
- 46:32Speaker 3: What happens to a community? What happens to a community
- 46:35Speaker 3: that thrives on their sports team.
- 46:37Speaker 5: We're not talking about people like our team. Raiders suck,
- 46:41Speaker 5: but they still believe something.
- 46:44Speaker 3: I mean, I think they are.
- 46:45Speaker 4: A fandom, like they have one of the humans vanities,
- 46:48Speaker 4: the black that something happened in the black hole.
- 46:51Speaker 3: You you you know, you know about it.
- 46:53Speaker 4: I was telling you before, Like my Dans from King
- 46:56Speaker 4: Sinavaga pair of teams on the Rats still to this
- 46:59Speaker 4: day like and I'm just like, what's the core lazy?
- 47:01Speaker 3: He's just like he loved the ruggedness, he loved the running.
- 47:04Speaker 3: He's from the John Madden coaching EA, exactly know. He
- 47:08Speaker 3: just loved the runningness of the rate that black and Silver.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Absolutely so I in in in doing the.
- 47:15Speaker 5: Series that I was trying to produce and trying to produce.
- 47:18Speaker 5: Now I went to Oakland and I just I literally
- 47:21Speaker 5: just wanted everybody and I was just like, hey, how can.
- 47:24Speaker 3: You help me? What can be done? What are we doing?
- 47:27Speaker 3: And then the story.
- 47:28Speaker 5: Start to write itself, like everybody wanted to help. And
- 47:31Speaker 5: I found out that they were giving cash for keys.
- 47:34Speaker 3: I'm like, what do you do? Like, I was like,
- 47:37Speaker 3: what does that even mean?
- 47:38Speaker 5: What's happened now is is that the property values have
- 47:41Speaker 5: went up, you know, tremendously, so now that these people
- 47:47Speaker 5: are living in these homes, they can't afford the property tax.
- 47:51Speaker 5: You see what I'm saying. And on top of that,
- 47:54Speaker 5: businesses and things are being shut down. Somebody who was
- 47:57Speaker 5: cool working at that Walmart. Walmart's not anymore now. All
- 48:02Speaker 5: these businesses and things that have to be shut down
- 48:04Speaker 5: because the tech world, which is fine, but the culture
- 48:09Speaker 5: is getting to.
- 48:09Speaker 3: Be away, you know what I mean.
- 48:11Speaker 5: That's just like if you go take go to Philly
- 48:13Speaker 5: and take Sylvester Saloon joint them, or you take the
- 48:17Speaker 5: Bell if you go to these places that are monumental.
- 48:21Speaker 5: Oapland is the where the Black Panthers started, you know,
- 48:24Speaker 5: what I'm saying.
- 48:24Speaker 3: We got a swag about it. It's something about Oakland.
- 48:28Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm not saying it because I'm from there.
- 48:30Speaker 3: It's the truth, you know. It's almost like a forgotten
- 48:33Speaker 3: city in a sense, because it's like.
- 48:35Speaker 4: We hear New York, we hear Miamila, Atlanta, nobody exactly exactly.
- 48:40Speaker 5: And what's happening now is is that we didn't see
- 48:45Speaker 5: the beauty in it until it was too late. Cities
- 48:49Speaker 5: like that, cities like ours, we did not understand what
- 48:53Speaker 5: it was because we got a beautiful transit system. You
- 48:58Speaker 5: go to the bay, you can do you dock your boats,
- 49:01Speaker 5: you go up the hill, you could ride your horses,
- 49:03Speaker 5: like all these things.
- 49:04Speaker 3: Cities don't have that. You go to some cities and
- 49:06Speaker 3: they barely got a bank, you know what I mean.
- 49:09Speaker 5: But we got all the stuff that people would need
- 49:11Speaker 5: to thrive. And we were just you know, nobody didn't
- 49:14Speaker 5: we as kids or as the adults.
- 49:16Speaker 3: We were just living.
- 49:18Speaker 5: But now these people got a hold of it and
- 49:21Speaker 5: they're like, Wow, what's the best way to get them
- 49:24Speaker 5: out so we can move in? All right, Let's give
- 49:28Speaker 5: them some money first, So cash your keys. You can't
- 49:31Speaker 5: you're barely making ends meet. The schools are being shut down,
- 49:36Speaker 5: so then they people got to like bust their kids out.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Schools are literally being shut down for whatever reasons, whether
- 49:42Speaker 5: it doesn't meat cold or their kids aren't hitting.
- 49:45Speaker 3: The numbers to shut them down.
- 49:46Speaker 5: They're like, well, this school isn't producing right, so now
- 49:51Speaker 5: you piling kids into one school?
- 49:53Speaker 3: Are you sending them off? So we say, hey, listen,
- 49:56Speaker 3: we'll give you. I'm just throwing numbers one hundred thousand dollars.
- 50:00Speaker 5: They're thinking, hell, I can move to Tracy or stopped him,
- 50:04Speaker 5: tack him in on and be good. That's a down
- 50:06Speaker 5: payment and whatever, because I can't afford to live here,
- 50:11Speaker 5: so instead of holding on And that's what you know.
- 50:13Speaker 5: That's one of the character of Chants in the series.
- 50:17Speaker 5: That's where his heart breaks because here he is he
- 50:21Speaker 5: has to leave Oakland and Miltil why because of this
- 50:23Speaker 5: whole thing.
- 50:24Speaker 3: But he ends up in Miami and he starts to
- 50:26Speaker 3: do real estate and.
- 50:28Speaker 5: He's like winning at real estate, like winning, but here
- 50:32Speaker 5: he is thriving over here, but not looking back at
- 50:34Speaker 5: the city that made him.
- 50:37Speaker 3: So what happens is his younger.
- 50:40Speaker 5: Sister calls him and it's a big thing happening where
- 50:43Speaker 5: he's like, you gotta come back, you have to come back.
- 50:45Speaker 3: When he comes back, he's.
- 50:47Speaker 5: Thinking he's dealing with one thing, but his sister is sick,
- 50:52Speaker 5: the families falling apart, the city's falling apart, they're closing
- 50:56Speaker 5: his high school. And then the reason he left in
- 50:58Speaker 5: the first place, staying in righting space.
- 51:01Speaker 3: You know what I mean. So all these things start.
- 51:03Speaker 5: To happen and you realize that, like, hey, Oakland is
- 51:07Speaker 5: just like everywhere else, except this is a place that
- 51:10Speaker 5: we should have put up a little bit more.
- 51:13Speaker 3: One of our hans, like, come on, look at the
- 51:15Speaker 3: people that's coming out of there. You know what I mean.
- 51:17Speaker 3: It is we didn't just pop up.
- 51:19Speaker 5: But when you get told that you're ugly or wrong
- 51:22Speaker 5: for so long, you start to believe it. Like I
- 51:24Speaker 5: love the black hole, But when you think about it,
- 51:27Speaker 5: it comes from a place of if you don't give
- 51:30Speaker 5: it to me, I'll take it, And I dare you
- 51:32Speaker 5: say something?
- 51:33Speaker 3: Read right, I don't care if I lost or not.
- 51:36Speaker 3: I bet y'all will be as outside. That's our roll.
- 51:39Speaker 5: So it's good it comes from we. You know, they
- 51:42Speaker 5: say the diamond's made from pressure, you know. So it's like,
- 51:47Speaker 5: I feel like we're all diners, but not of some
- 51:49Speaker 5: some people just didn't have that pressure to make them
- 51:52Speaker 5: what they are. And now that we see that we
- 51:54Speaker 5: can be people are standing up and open. People are like, yo,
- 51:57Speaker 5: whoever can each one teach one? And now that's I
- 52:00Speaker 5: was like, you know what, I'm gonna do something and
- 52:02Speaker 5: I'm gonna put my blessed and tears into it.
- 52:04Speaker 3: I got to give back to the city that gave
- 52:06Speaker 3: to me.
- 52:06Speaker 2: So it's interesting you said that too, because so, like
- 52:11Speaker 2: I remember Jim Jones right had said a while ago
- 52:13Speaker 2: in that Hall of anybody's familiar with Hall of Them,
- 52:15Speaker 2: some of the open. As far as the history, everybody
- 52:17Speaker 2: knows the history of hallm like that's black and.
- 52:20Speaker 3: So I was like, yeah, I mean that's you know,
- 52:21Speaker 3: that's Blakes and h all of that. It's a history.
- 52:24Speaker 3: W and if you if so, Hallam has had a
- 52:27Speaker 3: very rich history.
- 52:29Speaker 2: And then the eighties when the crack academic hit, Hallam
- 52:33Speaker 2: was just rashed, torn part right, torn apart, terrible in
- 52:39Speaker 2: the alpha go to Hall of Them.
- 52:40Speaker 3: It's it's different. It's different.
- 52:43Speaker 2: You see people with the Yorkis and they don't look
- 52:47Speaker 2: like us, Like a lot of people don't look like us.
- 52:49Speaker 3: So with I hurt him. He was on the radio.
- 52:51Speaker 2: He was saying that, you know when a lot of
- 52:53Speaker 2: the hustlers and guys that was really getting money, and
- 52:56Speaker 2: he was like, you know, back in the duge, you
- 52:57Speaker 2: could have wanted building at all of them for like.
- 52:59Speaker 3: A dollar and he was given. They was giving properties away, but.
- 53:02Speaker 2: They wasn't ignoring it, like that they were buying champagne
- 53:04Speaker 2: clubs and all that. He was like, looking back on
- 53:07Speaker 2: it now, he and his friends and in other people
- 53:10Speaker 2: that he was around that.
- 53:10Speaker 3: He saw that was on a higher level than him.
- 53:12Speaker 2: They could have really brought blocks like brownstones are hall
- 53:16Speaker 2: I'm going for two million, four point.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Five million right now, right so it's like.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Imagine if you want a whole block back then, how
- 53:21Speaker 2: much it's worth now?
- 53:23Speaker 3: So the same thing. That's why you know, bring what
- 53:26Speaker 3: you're doing now, because it's like at some.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Point we have to learn, right. We saw it happening
- 53:30Speaker 2: in DC. We saw it happened in Brooklyn, We saw
- 53:32Speaker 2: it happened at Hallam. We see what's going on in
- 53:34Speaker 2: a LA every year. It happening all over the country. Right,
- 53:37Speaker 2: So it's like, okay, how do we be proactive instead
- 53:41Speaker 2: of being reactive because it's one thing that's like, okay,
- 53:43Speaker 2: look it happened. This is bad, Like I'm pushed out
- 53:45Speaker 2: of my neighborhood. And that's one of the things with
- 53:47Speaker 2: Nipsey Hustle. That's why we had to go to the
- 53:49Speaker 2: The America Store because it's like, that's what.
- 53:52Speaker 3: He was doing, Like you know what I'm saying. It
- 53:53Speaker 3: was yeah, he was just buying back.
- 53:56Speaker 2: He was buying his neighborhood, providing job, providing opportunities. So
- 53:59Speaker 2: it's like when you see all these sports teams lead
- 54:02Speaker 2: and you know, and now the town is going down
- 54:05Speaker 2: and that's bringing down the value and that people are
- 54:08Speaker 2: coming in, like you said, giving cash, and then it's
- 54:10Speaker 2: all it's all a bigger play, right.
- 54:13Speaker 3: The thing that has to happen.
- 54:14Speaker 5: What I feel like is deal, we have to get
- 54:18Speaker 5: this ship off our shoulder. And it's not our fault
- 54:22Speaker 5: because we were born and raised with nothing.
- 54:25Speaker 3: I feel like, so.
- 54:26Speaker 5: Whenever we get a chance to shine, we do it.
- 54:28Speaker 5: And the only way sometimes to shine is to outshine
- 54:31Speaker 5: another person. That's how we were raised, you know what
- 54:33Speaker 5: I mean. My mom's like, don't don't let nobody do
- 54:36Speaker 5: this to you, or somebody hit you, you hit them back,
- 54:38Speaker 5: like this whole thing. But it came from a place
- 54:40Speaker 5: of like desperation. So now that we know that we're
- 54:43Speaker 5: not desperate right now, because we are doing amazingly as
- 54:46Speaker 5: a as a community, as a culture, or whatever, we
- 54:49Speaker 5: got to get to chip off our shoulder because if
- 54:52Speaker 5: we bind together, if we bind together and stop saying like, hey,
- 54:57Speaker 5: I'm the king, that don't mean both of y'all.
- 54:59Speaker 3: Can you know what I mean?
- 55:02Speaker 5: If we do that, people stop because you start to
- 55:06Speaker 5: feel like you're not worth because of the people around you.
- 55:11Speaker 5: But if that person was like, you know what, I
- 55:13Speaker 5: got a little bit, here you go, Here you go too.
- 55:16Speaker 5: Now we don't have to give away our homes for
- 55:18Speaker 5: this casual keys, because guess what if you can hold
- 55:20Speaker 5: onto this house for a year. Listen, what I'm gonna
- 55:23Speaker 5: do is I'm gonna loan you this fifty. I'm a
- 55:25Speaker 5: loan you this fifty. We're gonna redo it, which is
- 55:28Speaker 5: gonna bring up the equity. But I want to hunt
- 55:30Speaker 5: it back because now you're gonna have eight hundred thousand
- 55:34Speaker 5: dollars because it's at its value now, But we don't
- 55:37Speaker 5: do that. Nobody nobody's talking to people and the community's
- 55:40Speaker 5: not binding together like like Jewish people or even Mexicans,
- 55:45Speaker 5: like the Mexicans doing they things like I still to
- 55:47Speaker 5: this day see them grinding work together together, know what
- 55:50Speaker 5: I mean. And it's just one of those things that
- 55:52Speaker 5: we just have to You know, I'm in too, and
- 55:55Speaker 5: I'm I'm trying to be better than every day. It's
- 55:57Speaker 5: an uphill battle, but it's hard to unlearn things that
- 56:00Speaker 5: you've learned your whole life, even when it comes to women,
- 56:03Speaker 5: even becomes to women, like you know, you you learn
- 56:05Speaker 5: how to be swagged out, you learn how to do it.
- 56:07Speaker 3: You know, you can't touch me.
- 56:08Speaker 5: That's how my cousins raised me, like how to dress,
- 56:11Speaker 5: keep your head cut, all these things, But did they
- 56:13Speaker 5: really teach you how to appreciate the right woman or
- 56:16Speaker 5: to talk to do whatever?
- 56:17Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 56:18Speaker 5: And that all is it's all in the same culture.
- 56:20Speaker 5: That's why we the fastest whatever, because that's what we do.
- 56:22Speaker 5: I bet you can't beat me.
- 56:23Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 56:24Speaker 5: So now you're out there running artists. That's how we're raisable.
- 56:26Speaker 5: But we need to change is now put us in finances,
- 56:29Speaker 5: so then we know credit is king. Credit is king,
- 56:32Speaker 5: because if we got we are me and three of
- 56:34Speaker 5: my own boys got good credit, we're good. You know
- 56:38Speaker 5: credit is king. Then you take that one step further. Okay,
- 56:41Speaker 5: how do we take that money and apply it to something?
- 56:44Speaker 5: But let's not just apply to something where.
- 56:45Speaker 3: We got to be at every day.
- 56:48Speaker 5: I don't want to have to just because I stopped working,
- 56:50Speaker 5: My money should not stop working for me. So now
- 56:55Speaker 5: I gotta if I want to go on a vacation,
- 56:56Speaker 5: my money stopped. And that's what folks start winning sleep.
- 57:00Speaker 5: So the ship they got residual income. That money is
- 57:03Speaker 5: making money. Well to see, but I don't care if
- 57:05Speaker 5: it's a laundry mat, I don't care. If it's vending machines,
- 57:09Speaker 5: I don't care. If you want to get an extra
- 57:10Speaker 5: five hundred dollars a month, you break that down twelve times.
- 57:13Speaker 3: Fot you all right?
- 57:16Speaker 2: Gordon Geko one of the most legendary characters in movie history.
- 57:20Speaker 2: As one of the most legendary lines in movie history,
- 57:22Speaker 2: he says money never sleeps there that familiar that's ball
- 57:25Speaker 2: Street and Gordon getto is the start. If you haven't
- 57:29Speaker 2: watched Ball Street. You doing yourself get service? Yes, but
- 57:33Speaker 2: it got such a short line. But it's if you
- 57:36Speaker 2: really think. He's like, money never sleeps. If you really
- 57:38Speaker 2: understand money, then you understand it never sleeps.
- 57:41Speaker 3: Like that's the key you have to make.
- 57:43Speaker 2: I remember Warren Buffet said something that he said, if
- 57:45Speaker 2: you can't find out how to make money.
- 57:46Speaker 3: While you're sleep, you're gonna work t your dot. And
- 57:48Speaker 3: that's fact. That's a fact. And that's a fact man,
- 57:51Speaker 3: And that's in that's and that's where we I feel
- 57:54Speaker 3: like they don't teach you.
- 57:55Speaker 5: They don't teach anybody that because it wasn't just black
- 57:57Speaker 5: people at my schools, white negs against everybody else. But
- 58:00Speaker 5: that was the achilles hell. Like I just start caring
- 58:03Speaker 5: about credit five years ago. I was like, well, shit
- 58:05Speaker 5: that it's messed up already. I don't care about y'all,
- 58:09Speaker 5: you know what I mean. But that's just not the
- 58:11Speaker 5: way to go. And once you start understanding that you
- 58:13Speaker 5: don't need a bunch of money to do the little things,
- 58:17Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying, Just just the little things,
- 58:19Speaker 5: and then get a good group of guys around you, like,
- 58:21Speaker 5: stop stop being selfish, stop being like this, me, me, me,
- 58:24Speaker 5: because you'll never get ahead like that just one person,
- 58:28Speaker 5: Like two brains is better than one, three billions is
- 58:30Speaker 5: better than two.
- 58:30Speaker 3: And you get a good group of distinguished gentlemen.
- 58:33Speaker 5: Oh it's a rap because these you can help my
- 58:36Speaker 5: vision in so many ways that I don't know. And
- 58:39Speaker 5: then from that the finances get better. When finances get better,
- 58:43Speaker 5: you start living good. When you start living good, you
- 58:45Speaker 5: start being good to other people. Because I can't give
- 58:47Speaker 5: you a bottle half. I just can't.
- 58:49Speaker 3: Like for me, other people probably can, but for me,
- 58:52Speaker 3: if it's.
- 58:54Speaker 5: Like if I'm starving, I feel like I can't help you.
- 59:00Speaker 5: So I need to make sure that I'm doing my
- 59:02Speaker 5: part to better myself because if I'm eating, then you're eating.
- 59:06Speaker 3: But everybody has to be on that same wavelength, you
- 59:09Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. That's all like when y'all said
- 59:11Speaker 3: y'all doing what y'all was doing, I was like, I'm wanting.
- 59:13Speaker 5: I'm wanting, like whatever I can do to help, because
- 59:16Speaker 5: now I'm seeing you know, your jay z, your meat meals,
- 59:18Speaker 5: and everybody's like on this way.
- 59:20Speaker 3: And I don't be on waves, but if I'm gonna
- 59:22Speaker 3: be on any way, that I'm gonna jump on.
- 59:24Speaker 5: It's gonna be the one that's the movement is happening
- 59:26Speaker 5: right now because I see all this stuff that's happening
- 59:28Speaker 5: and housing that everybody know about, all these other people
- 59:31Speaker 5: that they have alocasts and all this things, and they
- 59:33Speaker 5: are putting that force and this happened to these people
- 59:36Speaker 5: and it was wrong. We was enslaved for how long?
- 59:39Speaker 5: And everybody still know and it's just okay, everybody knows
- 59:43Speaker 5: about it. Everybody knows the struggle, but people aren't standing
- 59:46Speaker 5: up this because we don't stand up for ourselves.
- 59:48Speaker 3: Eighty percent of the NBA and NFL is like black.
- 59:51Speaker 3: That's what happened. The entertainers come.
- 59:54Speaker 5: On, man, They're like, I don't know the numbers per se,
- 59:57Speaker 5: but I know every time I turn around, everybody is following.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: The trends and the trends as you know what I mean.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: So I think that once we wants to tie turning,
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: and it's not about.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: I don't want to make it a black, white or
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: whatever thing. It's just about I don't want my son
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: or my daughter or whoever else to grow up and
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: have to feel the way I felt when I watched
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: Black panther, you should have black is beautiful, or Mexican
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: is beautiful, or whatever is beautiful, just because it's beautiful,
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: damn the color. Believe in what you believe in, Like
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: we we got a Baptist. We don't know our history.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: Everybody else to go back, you know, you see everybody
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: else they got they say, still there. And that's where
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: I feel like finance starts at that because once we
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: start saying, hey, this is how.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: You when you got money. Money.
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: Money rules the world, and don't think it's a bad thing,
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: but it allows you to do what seemore. So instead
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: of people want to get rims, work to get rims
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: over summer, now they're like, yo, I want to go sailing. Well,
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: how because my daddy to sail or whatever. That's what
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: people get over because the money allows the seymore and
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: you see more on your brain expends.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: If your brain expand, actually the base that's like a
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: real life expo. You don't get out, you don't get
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: out of you don't get out of that. When you
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: don't get out of that.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: City, you think you're doing it, you think you doing
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: They also come down to self esteem too, because it's like, okay,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: if you really think about it.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: You buying all these things is really for insecurity.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: That's what you don't feel great about yourself, So you
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: have to buy the rains on your car and all that.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: No shames anybody do that. But if you.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Really are secure, you don't need to buy that, right
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: You rather buy a home.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: You got to buy investment, set your kids up.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: I see some of the richest people in New York
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: and they driving Nissans like you wouldn't know they have
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: money because that's not their own right. And that's something
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: that I think we as a culture, we still have
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: to get over that because we, like you said, we've
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: never had anything right.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: So now it's like when it's when we get anything,
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: we have.
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: To so we have everything, and we have to have
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: a sense of valid and if I'm going to do it,
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: if you all want to do those things, don't work
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: for those things. Have that revenue that I was talking about,
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: make you the money, don't don't sit around and bust
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: your ass, and you got you got to know yourself
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: worth like you just got to. I just knew and
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: I got played many times. Like I used to be
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: a what's it calling it?
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: What's it called? That when people you are.
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: It was for a tequila company where you just want
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: to ambassador, ambassador bro ambassador, I hatter beet a owner.
- 1:02:29Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying, Like I'm selling this tequila
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: like it's mine. I opened up over three hundred counts
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: from open and said, San Diego, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: I set up. I set up.
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: I set up the events where the guy sold his
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: company to the dude for over three hundred million dollars.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: I set up the event.
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: But guess what I got that same two thousand dollars
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: that he told me I WoT.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: Get upset up the thing. You gotta know your work,
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: and you know your work.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: Get him mentor get him mentor right now if you want,
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: if you want my best advice, get a mentor. Beg
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: for a mentor. Get a mentor now. Not your mom,
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: not your daddy, not your cousins. I don't care how
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: smart they are.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Get a mentor outside of your group, cause I'm telling.
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: You a mentor is like you being blind and they
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: that damn walking stick. They're not there to help you walk.
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: They're just trying to guide you a little bit more
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: telling you get them INNTO.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: That's what that'd be. That's a mental That's part of
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: what we actually do in New York.
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: Like we have a mentorship program where we take kids
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: who have aspirations to be an actor or be an
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: attorney or be a doctor, and we put them in
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: those fields and they get to intern for six weeks
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: to see what it's like.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: They get to pick the brain figure out if his career.
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Like you were sality, somebody wanted to work. This kid
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: didn't even want to work in finance.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: But I saw them selling the waters every day outside
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: of shopping center for a dollar, every single day, making
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: thirty dollars going back to the store buying in for
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: cheap selling them. And I was like, what do you
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: want to You wanted to play in the NBA.
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: And I'm like, nah, you have a natural instinct. You're
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: a hustle. Like I can see it.
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: First thing I did, I'll say, you shot, I got
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: this kid I need to work with because I know
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: he's working in finance.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: This kid has a hustle. He just has to direct way. Right.
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: So that's the let said, because that's ask what we do. Yep,
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: that's for me, that's big.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: That's big because when my acting career really started taking off,
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: I met the right coach. Like I was taught the
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: wrong way. So me and him, but it ends for
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: so long because I had learned the wrong way for
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: so long that when he was trying to teach me
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: the right way, I'm arguing with him. You know what
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: I mean, I'm already I'm from Oakland, like Nigga. I
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: just spent Nigga, I spent five thousand dollars on these classes.
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: You can't tell me that that's wrong, but it was,
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: you know what I mean? And then I met him
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: and he just changed my whole perception. I couldn't get
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: to emotion because they used to tell me like, hey,
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: did your did your dog die?
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: Or did your girlfriend rek up with you?
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: So I'm in this scene thinking about my dead dog
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: when I should really just connect with the character. You
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: see what I'm saying. And it was it was it
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: was stuff like that, I smell here all day, but
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: that that happens, and it has happened to.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: Me throughout my life, where I feel.
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: Like people will assume just because I'm always smiling, I'm
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: always happy, because you ain't gonna never ever under dodge
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: green Earth.
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: See me just taking an l like that. I'm a
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: born fighter. You know. My mom had been sixteen.
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: My dad came from a fan. Everything was broken. But
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: if they can do it together, what excuse do I have?
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: I got two eyes, all my body parts work like.
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: Come on, man, The people out here that cannot do
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: what I can do, not because I'm better than just
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: because they physically can't. Once you start appreciating shit like that,
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: it just changes. It just changes the way you're thinking.
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: It's not an easy thing to do. You gotta work
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: at it, but.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: You gotta know. You just gotta I don't know how,
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: but you just gotta know. Because people just been.
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: Winning for way too long just because it's been given
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: to them, and we don't have that kind of opportunity
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: just to be giving that old money, that old money
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: that Johnson and Johnson, Johnson and Johnson been around. But
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: ever you know these stone companies, You see that little
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: toilet you see to say it's colder, All these things
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: that you take for absolutely rented.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: That is old old money, this whatever.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: And that's one of the things that you said with kids,
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: that we don't have mentors a lot of times, so
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: we make a lot of mistakes because we just figured
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: it out as we go, Like we just walked through
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: my field with no map, so it's like we might
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: get blown up here.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: We don't have no tactical skills. You walking through, you're
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: you're you're destined to get your neck. It's survivable. Yeah,
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: And it's like if somebody could have.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Just told us these things, and that's it takes a
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: lot of It takes a lot of like some questioning,
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: and you got.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: To check their ego, like, you know, I don't know
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: his help me. You don't say to be humble.
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: You have to be humble because if you don't, it's
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: a rap. People are not going people are not going
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: to want to help you. And I feel like for
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: a long time maybe I was that guy like I
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: use my energy for bad, you know, like because it
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: is it's an energy. And I'm okay with saying the
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: first I was embarrassing. I don't want to say this
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: or that, but I'm commonly saying my energy is my superpower.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: I spit on you even don't worry, but.
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: No, but I'm saying that is my superpower. And once
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: you figure out what your superpower is, let that Shane.
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: Let it be out there. Put it out to the world. Man,
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: open your chest out. Let people know that it's okay
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: to love, it's okay to hurt. All this stiff is
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: okay for man. But when you're coming up, you're scared.
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: You put that hand out that they won't put it
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: back out, and now that they didn't, you're embarrassing. So
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: I gotta jab you all. We gotta when it's not
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: it's okay. If he said no, what she's saying no,
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: Now I gotta try another thing. But we don't learn
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: that it's embarrassing to be shut down.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: I've been shut down for fifteen years, So now I
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: could honestly say I'm winning. You know, I got property,
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: I got a great job, my career is flourishing.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: I feel good in my heart.
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: I know what I want to do, I know the
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: people I want to do it with, and I'm okay
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: with assets.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: But help. Every time I talk to old people, every
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: chance I get.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Every day, I want to ask something bombed the last
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: thing before we wrap up because.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: We didn't really fully go into it.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: But they say that average mayor has seven streams of income,
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: right and being in Hollyware.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: You know, it's really tough. As far as you might
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: have a gig, you might not have a gig for
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: eighteen months.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Your series might get picked up, but then it might
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: get dropped.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: So it's important we try to achieve entrepreneurship.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: So can you just talk about how that has helped
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: you as far as your your multiple streams of income,
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: couse your reality.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: I mean, you have a couple of different things going
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: on right and absolutely.
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: The thing but the thing I believe that you have
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: to do is is, no matter what, find what you're good.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: At and see if you can turn that into a
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: monetary thing. You know what I mean. Find what you're
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: good at. It may not be.
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: Directly directly in the lane that you want to be in,
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: but I'm telling you now what the Internet and how
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: things are going, there are people if you are and
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: you gotta you do. Got to know if you are
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: professionalized this because so many people live in this fantasy
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: world and they're robbing people like you don't know what
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: you're doing. Find something that you love doing and you
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: can actually monetize that, you know what I mean? Because
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: people like if you love cooking, you can start doing
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: mial press for people.
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: If you love reading, hey, maybe you can start doing
- 1:09:20Speaker 5: readings for people out of play or put the kids.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Find something that you.
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: Love doing, because it'll turn over into something else because
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: while you're reading those books to kids, you could.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Actually record it. Need out your own audio books. If
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: you tell.
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: Stories like there's just things that whatever you're good at,
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: there's something out there, there's a need because there's a
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: group of people that aren't motivated the way we.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: Are, just because what they don't see what we see.
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: I get to see these cars, I get to see
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: this good but I get to see everything that I
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: think I can attain with somebody in maybe Louisiana or
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: Kentucky doesn't have the same motivation because they just don't
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: see it. So now, with all these ways of making money,
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: I believe if you are professionally on something, find a
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: way to do that. Secondly, you gotta own something like
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: I don't care how you do it or what it is.
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: You got to own it because the name of the
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: game is to have somebody owe you. If you owe me,
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: I'll never be broke, you know what I mean? And
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: those is the way it goes like, you gotta find
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: out how to do it. You got to figure out
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: how to make it where somebody has to pay me,
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: has to pay me.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: That's what. That's what. That's what the condo does. Those
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: people have to pay me. They have to pay me.
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: And I don't have to go over to that house.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: I don't got to do nothing. You signed that contract.
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: I got all my information. That money comes to me
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: no matter what, every month, you know what I mean.
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: Then secondly, find that resist your income. You gotta find
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: something which will come with a mentor. But like when
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: I was just starting out, I didn't own the I
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: didn't own the vendor machines, but he made he gave
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: me like thirty percent of them, and he was like,
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: just I need you help, you know, stack them up,
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: put the stuff in there or whatnot. That was a
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: residual income for me because my time was my own.
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: You see what I'm saying. When you've gotta be at
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: a job at a certain time and you gotta do this,
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: that's when things get sticky. Or if you can control
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: your own time, that's what's dope.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I could control my own time. So he was like,
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: as long as it's full. I don't care. So I
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: could go at five in the morning or I.
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: Go to night before. However I wanted to do it,
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: I could do it. And then that was a residual
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: income that will come to me no matter what. And then, last,
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: but not least, study the craft. Man, study the craft
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: because it's too many. It's too many shooters out here.
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: Like it's like I'm telling you this, I mean they're
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: out here, like it's people out here.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: It's people out here just bleeding it. They're bleeding.
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: I don't care if you're talking about football, basketball, acting,
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: being a doctor, I don't care. Because it's becoming very
- 1:11:52Speaker 5: hard to live in America. It's getting expensive, period. So
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: if you're trying to win the right way, you gotta
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: be a bet. You got to be amongst the best.
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: You gotta be the best. So if you're not in
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: the industry to be the best or to achieve at
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: your highest goal, you might as well just be it
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: because it's not gonna work. It's just not gonna work
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: with every unless you're lucky. But then look at what
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: I got.
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: People.
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: I remember back in the day where I was like
- 1:12:18Speaker 5: looking all these people. I was telling one of my homeboys,
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: because he's not under me, but he's you know, looking
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: up to me now. And I was like the best
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: place to be at for a while I was on
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: the bench. He's like, what, I don't want to send
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: them the bench. I said no, because while I was
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: sitting on the bench, I saw all of the sticks
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: everybody else made watching. I saw him go up, I
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: saw him come down. I see him stay right in
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: the middle. I said, they just give up all together.
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: He should have did this, one did that. I saw everything.
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: Now I'm coach with me, and you got no excuse.
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: You got no excuse because the worst thing ever to
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: be put in the game and you ain't ready.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: That's power for me.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: We want we want to thank you for coming on
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: appreciate in short notice too. And that's when that's what
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: we always say, you know, it's it's just encouraging to
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: see people going out of that way to give up
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: the game.
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: That's kind of been the formula of our show. We
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: break people on and then they're giving up information. This
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: this is a true story.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Like even when you said you have to go, I
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: think you're working costcos and like you know that this
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: is real.
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: This is real life.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: We're not gonna paint a picture for you of everything
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: is beauty and roses.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: It doesn't work like that.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: You gotta stay down till you come up, and even
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: when you do come up, you might have to take
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: a step back right a minus setback for it makes
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: you comeback. So this is this is when we put
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: top my entrepreneurship investing business. We're gonna tell you the
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: real I let you go on YouTube a lot of
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: these things.
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: It's like, this is how.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: You make a million dollars or one month without doing
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: any words with working like Nah, it doesn't work like that.
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. You gotta put the work in.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: So thank you for coming to closing. Before we close
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: with just two things. Too much.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: As I live by the great, all become greater if
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: they here to be the greatest. And if you always
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: do what you've done, you'll always get what you got.
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: That's that's that's how I wrong. Because I know I'm great,
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: that's cool. But if you want to be greater, you
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: gotta dare to be the greatest.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: Because if you be the greatest, I mean, that's that's long.
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: But if you dare to try, you'll be greater for sure.
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: And if you always do what you've done, you always
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: gonna get what you got. You stay in your language,
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: you got to go a little faster a little bit.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Can you tell the people how to reach you on
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: social media if you're on any project that you.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: Got, finding that you got coming out, like you know
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: what I mean, if you if you just want to
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: stay in contact.
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: Through uh you know with my work, IMDb, the Internet
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: Movie Database, just Romeo Brown on Instagram on Romeo Brown
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: with an underscore.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Don't be uh shocked by my Twitter followers. Like I
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: told you, I was a little shot with that because social.
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: Media for me was a little bit more to to
- 1:14:56Speaker 5: public for me, you know what I mean. I'm a
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: great intimate person and like I said, as a man,
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: I'm still.
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: Try to trying to be okay with struggling, like I.
- 1:15:04Speaker 5: Just now start winning. So when you think are se
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: are assumed that people are winning. As a man, it's
- 1:15:10Speaker 5: really hard to say that, you know, I'm not being
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: where I want to be in life, or to say,
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: you know what, I cry and I didn't get this job,
- 1:15:17Speaker 5: or you know what, that girl hurt me, or I
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: really wanted this and it's hard to do those things
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: when you you're not comfortable in your own skin. But
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: now I am, so you know, I'm ready to open
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: up those avenues because when you see me, you're gonna
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: get it all like because I'm not always winning, but
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: I'm gonna smile through the pain.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: So that's that's I just want to thank you a
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: game of being vulnerable and being transparent with everything because
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: we don't see that right Like you said, we went
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: to it to be tough and with tols like quite
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: bad because like yeah, as a man with growth, maturity.
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: Comes over head, it becomes honesty.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: And one of the things that you said is like
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: looking back, so like we do get ahead and we
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: get to certain places with the kids to look bad
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: because there is somebody that we can grab a hand.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: And take longer journey with us. That's important too. Yeah. Man,
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: I'm happy. Man, I'm happy that even.
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: Like I hope this gets album, somebody is it to
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: push them forward because life it's a very versus thing man,
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: And you know tomorrow's I promised. So if you can
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: Lenjit hit somebody else, it's like like a not a marathon,
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: it's like a reheater race, you know, as well as
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: you're just hand it off, handed off, And if if
- 1:16:24Speaker 5: I'm not the one to get where I want to get,
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: I gotta give it to another kid that because it
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: took me all this long to get this way because
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: nobody handed me anything like I put my head so
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: many times.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: My head should be like this. But if I can
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: make it with this other kid.
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: Can and he get to where I thought I could,
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: then I still got to feel hold in my heart
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: and know why I didn't. So now I'm just about
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: trying to pass that information and if there's anything I
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: can do to help reach out.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: If I don't get right back to you, I will try.
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: But that's what it's about, man, because we can't focus
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: on us right here right now.
- 1:16:54Speaker 5: We gotta be like that mind frame of like our
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: kids are our kids kids.
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: Because that's where it's at right now. For your last name,
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: we said it with pop right Paton, Yeah yeah, so

- 1:17:49Speaker 3: everything that we said we're gonna do so far we've done.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: And one of the things that we said what he's
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: going to do is come to different cities, right and
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: highlight people in the cities that's doing their thing.
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: And this is a perfect example of that.
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: It's so like I said, I always say, we're gonna

- 1:18:07Speaker 2: avenue to do that.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: And also our merch our merchan is doing well.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: And once again, we make statements with the clothes that
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: we wear, so it's important to be mindful of what
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: we wear. So you know, we have shirts like Austen
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: for your last name, Assets over Liability, so the merch
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: can be on It can be found on our website,
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: which is early leasha dot com.
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: And before we leave, I have a book tip and
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: that I always give.
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: So Multiple streams of Income was one of the first
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: books that I've read in finance.
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: I think I was like eighteen nineteen years old.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: I forget the author's name, but if you google Multiple
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: streams of Income, it will come up and it's a
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: very good book. We talk about muti streams of income
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: during this interview, and that's one thing that I encourage people.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: You cannot survive off of just one job.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: Even if you're an entrepreneur.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: You can't just rely on because anything can happened, your
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: business can fall, but you have to have other avenues
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: to pull on. So I strongly encourage anybody, everybody to
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: check out that book.
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: And also audio books are big, like we gotta stop,
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: you gotta stop it all, like you gotta you gotta go,
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: you gotta stop all this noise is going into your head.
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: If you listen into music at home, do you listen
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: to music at the gym? Do you listen to music
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: in the car, you're not ever feeding your brain. Like
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: these audiobooks have changed my life in the car, I
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: don't listen to nothing else but audio books because they're
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: feeding my brain constantly, constantly, constantly, because this music, Man,
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: you gotta be careful your brain is. Your brain is
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: just this this machine. It's picking up even when you're not.
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: So you've got to start finding ways for it to
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: learn when you're not trying to learn. And audio books
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: is one of the main ways that I've done that.
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: So that's telling this auto audiobooks. Anything you think about
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: you want to know, grab yourself an audiobook and put
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: it in that that that dead space.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: Now see what happens.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: That's a fact Episode fourteen you How to Teach You
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: Valencia owner she let the cat out the bag a
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: book tip, but I don't actually read. Why actually get
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: feed the book that I just told you. But almost
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: ninety percent of everything that I consume right now is audio.
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: So audio book I'm a huge I was on audio
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: book and it was seas I got so I've been
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: I've been. But you know, whatever, you know, how else
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: you can learn audio podcast? Your podcast is on Apple.
