SPEAKER_04: Oh, I saw your fingers over there.
0:13
SPEAKER_04: Smoke was coming from the keyboard.
0:15
SPEAKER_01: I I had to whip up something real quick.
0:17
SPEAKER_01: And uh I figured why don't we pull the trigger on another spotlight episode or or basically just an episode of people you should know, artists you should know.
0:25
SPEAKER_04: Oh, I like that even better.
0:26
SPEAKER_01: For one of my um new favorite artists, uh this is Lobby Siffri.
0:31
SPEAKER_01: Or Siffray.
0:32
SPEAKER_04: That's easy for you to say.
0:33
SPEAKER_01: You'd be surprised it's not.
0:40
SPEAKER_03: It's a brand new year and a brand new announcer, me, but I'll get to that later.

SPEAKER_08: That's why I don't cry.
1:48
SPEAKER_08: Laughing sometimes, that's somebody some good somehow.
1:57
SPEAKER_08: That's why you're gonna be able to do it.
3:53
SPEAKER_01: By of course, we introduced it in the first half, lobby siffrey.
3:57
SPEAKER_04: You know what?
3:58
SPEAKER_04: I used to have a show years ago on a country station.
4:01
SPEAKER_04: It was a call-in show.
4:02
SPEAKER_04: I was Cactus Jack Daniels, it was on KTRA, and it was like from six to midnight.
4:10
SPEAKER_04: It was called Crying, Loving, Leaving, or Laughing.
4:15
SPEAKER_10: Really?
4:16
SPEAKER_04: What are you doing?
4:16
SPEAKER_04: And that song was called?
4:18
SPEAKER_01: It was called Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying.
4:21
SPEAKER_01: Very similar.
4:22
SPEAKER_01: I wonder if you guys didn't know.
4:23
SPEAKER_04: I wish I thought of the lying part of it, because that would have worked out fine.
4:26
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
4:27
SPEAKER_04: Okay, SJE, we are live and direct, baby.
4:30
SPEAKER_04: It's another Sunday, and we're one way closer to single awareness day.
4:37
SPEAKER_01: Yes, yeah.
4:38
SPEAKER_01: It's February 1st.
4:40
SPEAKER_01: We were going, we we got the dates a little mixed up.
4:44
SPEAKER_01: We thought that the next show we were doing was for the February 8th, which we are going to be doing a crazy love show.
4:51
SPEAKER_01: Uh songs that are kind of about maybe unstable relationships, you know, maybe maybe borderline unhealthy relationships, but still, but still make for good songs.
5:01
SPEAKER_01: But then Red is about we were right when we were about to record, we realized, oh no, the next show we're doing is February 1st.
5:08
SPEAKER_01: What are we gonna do?
5:09
SPEAKER_01: So I I dusted off a couple of ideas, and now we're doing uh fingered Wren comes at it again.
5:16
SPEAKER_01: We're doing a spotlight show with uh lobby suffray.
5:20
SPEAKER_04: Well listen, we will have uh this show we're gonna have not Debonese, but we're gonna have things that make you go, hmm, that'll be in this first half.
5:27
SPEAKER_04: And then of course the ever popular Xenobran will be in the next half.
5:31
SPEAKER_10: Yes.
5:32
SPEAKER_04: Um you know, I am I just really excited about the year we got coming up.
5:37
SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm excited about having George, and he's fun to work with.
5:40
SPEAKER_04: His wife, we're gonna have to get her on the show.
5:44
SPEAKER_04: She is a character and she keeps him in line.
5:48
SPEAKER_04: So yeah, she's real sweet.
5:50
SPEAKER_04: Real, real sweet.
5:51
SPEAKER_01: George and I are a funny duo because I think we've only met in person the one time.
5:55
SPEAKER_04: Right.
5:56
SPEAKER_01: But we both have that tendency to yes and each other with conversation.
6:01
SPEAKER_01: He'll say something and go, yes, and and then before you know it, it's been three hours and nothing has gotten done because all we've done is talking.
6:09
SPEAKER_04: I had to break you guys up the first time you actually met.
6:12
SPEAKER_01: It was fun, it was fun.
6:13
SPEAKER_01: So it would be nice to have a referee there to say, okay, that's enough, let's get to work.
6:16
SPEAKER_04: We should put it on a timer.
6:18
SPEAKER_04: When the bell rings, okay.
6:19
SPEAKER_01: Conversation over.
6:21
SPEAKER_01: I I tell people all the time that like the two things that I always got in trouble for in school were uh being late all the time and talking way too much.
6:29
SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
6:30
SPEAKER_04: I don't know that I was because I'm really anal about being not on time, but ahead of time.
6:36
SPEAKER_04: At least ten minutes.
6:37
SPEAKER_04: If I'm if I'm not ten minutes early, I feel like I'm late.
6:41
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
6:42
SPEAKER_04: And but I did talk a lot in school.
6:45
SPEAKER_01: You and I would have gotten along on that on that wavelength.
6:48
SPEAKER_04: Even in elementary school, got the trouble.
6:50
SPEAKER_04: I had to sit in front of the class.
6:52
SPEAKER_01: You got moved around a lot, you had to sit in a desk all by yourself because no matter who you sat next to, you were talking to them.
6:59
SPEAKER_04: It didn't matter.
6:59
SPEAKER_04: I didn't know a stranger.
7:00
SPEAKER_01: I want to just defend myself slightly too.
7:02
SPEAKER_01: I like to be on time.
7:04
SPEAKER_01: I don't like to be late.
7:06
SPEAKER_01: It's just I don't know.
7:08
SPEAKER_01: I I'll think I'll have everything ready to go, and then I'm out the door, and then I realize I can't find my keys, and then it takes me 20 minutes to find my keys, and before you know it, I'm crying because I know I'm late.
7:18
SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
7:19
SPEAKER_04: Is this a feminine thing?
7:20
SPEAKER_01: Or is this It's an ADHD thing.
7:22
SPEAKER_04: Oh, there you go.
7:23
SPEAKER_01: My brain is so scattered that I think I'm ready to go.
7:27
SPEAKER_01: I think I'll have everything.
7:27
SPEAKER_01: And then at the last second, right before I'm about to leave, I realize, oh, I uh I never packed a lunch, or oh, uh, I don't have any of the things that I need for the day.
7:37
SPEAKER_04: Well, I've done that too, and left, and like, oh, screw it, I'm gonna be on time no matter what.
7:41
SPEAKER_04: There you go.
7:42
SPEAKER_04: There you go.
7:43
SPEAKER_04: All right, well listen, I'm really excited about the music, and we're excited about the year.
7:46
SPEAKER_01: Uh and the name of the the gentleman's name again is It is uh Lobby Siffrey, and I've been saying it wrong.
7:53
SPEAKER_01: I think I've been saying Lobby Sifri.
7:55
SPEAKER_01: So if I if I slip up and say that again, I'm sorry.
7:57
SPEAKER_01: He's still alive.
7:58
SPEAKER_01: Um he's eighty years old.
8:00
SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
8:01
SPEAKER_01: He was born in London, England.
8:02
SPEAKER_01: I believe he still lives in England.
8:04
SPEAKER_01: Um but he's uh he's just a really cool folk singer.
8:08
SPEAKER_01: And one of his songs has gotten really popular online called Bless the Telephone.
8:12
SPEAKER_01: We played it on our Call Me show.
8:14
SPEAKER_01: I remember that, yeah.
8:15
SPEAKER_01: I think that was like last week or maybe two weeks ago.
8:18
SPEAKER_04: Last week?
8:19
SPEAKER_01: But he's really good.
8:20
SPEAKER_01: He's got a gorgeous voice, and he writes beautiful lyrics.
8:24
SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited to dive in with you.
8:26
SPEAKER_04: Is it all right to say that a man has a pretty voice?
8:30
SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
8:31
SPEAKER_01: No, I'm I'm team, like I don't think it's I don't know what it is about.
8:35
SPEAKER_04: Don't give it a gender.
8:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I as Americans, we have to relate everything back to sexuality.
8:41
SPEAKER_01: I think it's okay to recognize that somebody has a pretty voice or pretty eyes.
8:45
SPEAKER_01: It doesn't mean you want to kiss them or anything like that.
8:49
SPEAKER_04: Jump their bones.
8:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
8:51
SPEAKER_01: And that will be for next week's show, Crazy Love.
8:55
SPEAKER_01: Play another one on me.
8:57
SPEAKER_01: You got it.
8:57
SPEAKER_01: This one's also a love song.
8:58
SPEAKER_01: It is called Turn on Your Love.
9:02
SPEAKER_04: Once I get it turned on, it's hard to turn it off.
9:06
SPEAKER_01: You'll have exactly three minutes 45 seconds to turn it on and keep it on.
9:20
SPEAKER_08: And feel the life.
9:24
SPEAKER_08: Nobody hear us.
9:27
SPEAKER_08: Nobody hear us now.
9:34
SPEAKER_08: I have to do it.
12:49
SPEAKER_08: Sitting in the back seat of my car with my arms around my tongue, and the rain falls from the roof of the world.
13:05
SPEAKER_08: Nothing around, just the trees and ground.
13:09
SPEAKER_08: There's a bird and a tree singing a song.
13:14
SPEAKER_08: Just for me.
13:17
SPEAKER_08: Just for me.
14:09
SPEAKER_08: But it's all right.
14:12
SPEAKER_08: I'm back in the fight.
14:16
SPEAKER_08: I thought my day would never come.
14:21
SPEAKER_08: Maybe it won't have fun.
14:27
SPEAKER_08: Cause that way it might.
14:55
SPEAKER_08: This is always the same.
15:00
SPEAKER_08: This is always the same.
15:11
SPEAKER_08: I don't know just where I am.
15:15
SPEAKER_08: I'm a nowhere man, I'm a desperate death.
15:19
SPEAKER_08: But I'll find out.
15:22
SPEAKER_08: Maybe if I shout.
15:26
SPEAKER_08: Give me your hand, don't give you my mind.
15:30
SPEAKER_08: It's a fair exchange if you're dead dumb and fly.
15:37
SPEAKER_08: Well, that's what it's all about.
16:46
SPEAKER_01: Can it canok chase.
16:48
SPEAKER_04: Cannock Chase.
16:49
SPEAKER_01: And I had to look it up.
16:51
SPEAKER_01: Um Canok Chase, often referred to locally as just the Chase, is a mixed area of countryside in the coun county of Staffordshire, England.
17:01
SPEAKER_01: Staffordshire.
17:03
SPEAKER_01: Which is i it's it I I often forget Lobby Sifray is British because I don't know, his music sounds very like American folk music.
17:11
SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say, yeah, I wouldn't have thought the name though.
17:17
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
17:17
SPEAKER_04: That doesn't sound British, the name.
17:20
SPEAKER_01: Well, um his full name is a little bit more British, but even then he he kind of comes from a mixed background.
17:26
SPEAKER_01: His his full name is Claudius Affle.
17:29
SPEAKER_01: I'm so sorry if I mispronounced this.
17:31
SPEAKER_01: Claudius Affolabi Sifre.
17:33
SPEAKER_01: He was born in Hammersmith, London in 1945.
17:37
SPEAKER_01: And he is the fourth of five brothers to a British mother of white, British, and Afro Barbadian descent and a British Nigerian father.
17:46
SPEAKER_04: There we go.
17:46
SPEAKER_04: Yes.
17:48
SPEAKER_01: So he's British, much in the way that a lot of us are American.
17:52
SPEAKER_01: He comes from a mixed background.
17:54
SPEAKER_01: And a lot of Americans come from a mixed background.
17:57
SPEAKER_01: There you go.
17:58
SPEAKER_01: The best of the best.
17:59
SPEAKER_04: That made me go, hmm.
18:01
SPEAKER_01: Oh, interesting you should say that.
18:03
SPEAKER_01: That's right.
18:04
SPEAKER_01: You have a new intro.
18:05
SPEAKER_01: It took me a second to find it.
18:06
SPEAKER_01: And here it is.
18:10
SPEAKER_03: What is David's attempt at being profound?
18:13
SPEAKER_03: Things that make you go, hmm.
18:16
SPEAKER_03: Things that make you go hmmm.
18:19
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't know whether I like that or not.
18:21
SPEAKER_04: I guess it's alright.
18:22
SPEAKER_01: I like it.
18:23
SPEAKER_01: It's less bombastic than the previous one.
18:26
SPEAKER_01: Maybe not bombastic.
18:27
SPEAKER_01: Bombastic.
18:28
SPEAKER_04: There's the Davidese word of the day.
18:30
SPEAKER_04: Bombastic.
18:32
SPEAKER_01: Now, two things that make you go hmm.
18:35
SPEAKER_04: Oh, hunting unicorns is legal in Michigan.
18:39
SPEAKER_01: You don't say.
18:40
SPEAKER_04: I don't say.
18:41
SPEAKER_04: Lake Superior State University in Michigan offers a unicorn hunting license.
18:47
SPEAKER_04: Unsurprisingly, the chief herald of the unicorn hunters was once quoted saying, the pursuit of unicorn is a lonely quest.
18:58
SPEAKER_04: We wish them nothing but good luck.
19:02
SPEAKER_04: You know, I I I would never I'm not a big hunter to begin with.
19:06
SPEAKER_04: I mean, I have hunted deer.
19:07
SPEAKER_04: I've never shot one, but I've hunted.
19:09
SPEAKER_04: I have shot duck, and I have um shot squirrel, which I you know, I was younger, I kind of regret now.
19:16
SPEAKER_04: Because it wasn't really that good.
19:19
SPEAKER_01: Um at least you probably, you know, made made use of it.
19:24
SPEAKER_04: Right.
19:24
SPEAKER_04: Well, living in Louisiana was kind of like, you know, we fished, we hunted, all that kind of smoking.
19:30
SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
19:31
SPEAKER_04: Anyway, um uh I just unicorns to me ought to be worshipped.
19:38
SPEAKER_01: I agree.
19:38
SPEAKER_04: Is that too much to ask for?
19:40
SPEAKER_04: Okay.
19:41
SPEAKER_01: They're I'm with you.
19:42
SPEAKER_01: At the very least, they're uh uh one of a kind.
19:46
SPEAKER_01: One of a kind of unicorns.
19:48
SPEAKER_01: So yeah, they're they're an endangered species, is what I was trying to say.
19:52
SPEAKER_01: They made a whole movie about it.
19:53
SPEAKER_01: The last unicorn from 1982.
19:55
SPEAKER_01: You know that one?
19:57
SPEAKER_04: I don't, but I do know the only reason they were late for the arc is why that's what I've always heard.
20:02
SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, yeah.
20:03
SPEAKER_01: They didn't make the arc, so they didn't they didn't make the them and the dragons and the griffins.
20:08
SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
20:09
SPEAKER_04: They were late.
20:10
SPEAKER_04: They didn't get the memo.
20:11
SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
20:12
SPEAKER_01: Dang it.
20:12
SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's too bad.
20:14
SPEAKER_01: No, I'm I'm with you.
20:15
SPEAKER_01: Unicorns should be a protected species.
20:17
SPEAKER_04: Well, it's the wake-up call, and of course, we are on KSJE 90.91033, and this is my friend, and always has been my friend for quite some time.
20:26
SPEAKER_04: We're in our eighth season.
20:27
SPEAKER_04: It's Miss Wren.
20:28
SPEAKER_01: And and this is my good old supportive mentor.
20:31
SPEAKER_01: Taught me everything I know, buddy did.
20:34
SPEAKER_04: That's a little scary.
20:35
SPEAKER_01: Every single thing I know is from you, so if I do something wrong, it's technically your fault.
20:40
SPEAKER_04: There you go.
20:41
SPEAKER_04: That's it.
20:42
SPEAKER_04: Now you're sounding like a wife.
20:44
SPEAKER_01: I'm your work wife.
20:46
SPEAKER_01: Have you ever heard of that?
20:47
SPEAKER_01: Uh that phrase before, work wife, work husband.
20:50
SPEAKER_01: I always I always take it with a grain of salt, but sometimes you do get into those relationships with your coworkers.
20:56
SPEAKER_01: Like um, especially in in my specific job, uh, I'm a teacher, but I work in a pretty isolated by design classroom where for most days it's just me and one other person.
21:12
SPEAKER_01: And my new coworker is more just like my my work buddy.
21:16
SPEAKER_01: We're we're very similar, so we kind of just are like friends.
21:20
SPEAKER_01: But my previous coworker, we would bicker so much, it was hard not to think of him as my work husband.
21:25
SPEAKER_01: But he's off to bigger and better things now.
21:28
SPEAKER_04: Well, I am so glad that you're working with the youth of America.
21:32
SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
21:33
SPEAKER_01: I'm trying.
21:35
SPEAKER_04: Well, I know.
21:36
SPEAKER_04: I've worked with him in the past too, at uh, you know, doing the culinary center and and that kind of stuff, and it did give me hope for the future.
21:44
SPEAKER_01: Truly.
21:45
SPEAKER_01: Most of the people who complain about the youth of America, um, or just the youth in general, uh oftentimes they sound like people who have not talked to a kid in ten plus years.
21:57
SPEAKER_04: Or maybe the wrong or the specific.
22:00
SPEAKER_01: The wrong kid.
22:01
SPEAKER_04: I haven't been around the wrong folks.
22:03
SPEAKER_04: I would like to say, speaking of kids, my youngest just had a baby.
22:06
SPEAKER_04: Well, he didn't, but his significant other did.
22:09
SPEAKER_01: He was there for the whole thing.
22:10
SPEAKER_01: He was.
22:11
SPEAKER_04: He was so proud of him.
22:13
SPEAKER_04: Um he was just well he was he never left her side.
22:19
SPEAKER_04: Uh ex well, except obviously to relieve himself.
22:23
SPEAKER_04: Thankfully.
22:24
SPEAKER_04: But yeah, he uh I I'm so proud.
22:26
SPEAKER_04: And when I saw him uh yesterday, as a matter of fact, he uh kind of had the shakes, right?
22:31
SPEAKER_04: And so I I figured it was from excitement.
22:33
SPEAKER_04: He goes, Dad, I'm on my ninth Red Bull, I gotta quit.
22:37
SPEAKER_01: This was not the way to handle this stress.
22:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
22:40
SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
22:42
SPEAKER_04: So congratulations, and you know, I won't give out names or anything, but uh congrats to them.
22:47
SPEAKER_01: It was exactly it was an intense story, and I'm so glad everybody's mature by uh six weeks.
22:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but still strong.
22:54
SPEAKER_04: The baby's strong.
22:55
SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, didn't have to have the life support that they usually put on.
22:59
SPEAKER_04: Uh only had a heart monitor that was it just to make sure everything was okay.
23:03
SPEAKER_04: Good looking kid, yeah, very, very proud of him.
23:05
SPEAKER_01: I'm so relieved.
23:06
SPEAKER_01: Thank you for keeping me updated on that too.
23:07
SPEAKER_01: Because I was very invested in it yesterday.
23:09
SPEAKER_04: Sure, sure.
23:10
SPEAKER_04: It was nice because the bosses at the work at the place that I work at are like, what are you doing here?
23:14
SPEAKER_04: Get your butt.
23:16
SPEAKER_04: Well, they didn't say butt.
23:17
SPEAKER_04: To the hospital.
23:18
SPEAKER_01: Get your hidequarters to the hospital.
23:20
SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
23:20
SPEAKER_01: So that's too cool.
23:21
SPEAKER_04: All right, so the guy we're doing today, we're not calling it a spotlight, we're not telling him for your consideration, we're just calling it we're throwing it out there.
23:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
23:30
SPEAKER_01: Someone you should know about.
23:31
SPEAKER_01: Because like a lot of um acts that are international, he's probably a lot bigger in his home country than he might be in America.
23:42
SPEAKER_01: Like obviously he's had worldwide appeal since you know, he he's been active.
23:46
SPEAKER_01: He's been active since 1970.
23:48
SPEAKER_01: But he I would argue that he's only really gotten big in the really big in the States recently because a couple of his songs have kind of surfaced.
23:57
SPEAKER_01: But I I don't want to say like here's somebody you've never heard of.
24:00
SPEAKER_01: Here's an underground artist.
24:02
SPEAKER_01: Well I had never heard of him.
24:03
SPEAKER_01: Because our British listeners might say, You don't know Lobby Sifray?
24:07
SPEAKER_01: Everybody knows Lobby Sifray.
24:09
SPEAKER_04: So good deal.
24:10
SPEAKER_01: This is just someone you should know if you don't know him.
24:12
SPEAKER_01: If you do know him, congrats on you and enjoy the show.
24:15
SPEAKER_04: Now I want to say too, uh, next segment, we're gonna have a little talk.
24:18
SPEAKER_04: Um, our hundred dollar thing is still out there.
24:20
SPEAKER_04: If you give us an idea for a show theme uh and that we have not used, we're gonna use it.
24:26
SPEAKER_04: Just send it to interwestconcepts.com, all one word, all lowercase.
24:30
SPEAKER_04: Um, and we're gonna have uh we have a phone call from That's right!
24:34
SPEAKER_01: I almost forgot about that.
24:35
SPEAKER_04: Miss Valerie next segment, and she's giving us a suggestion, but I think we're gonna need some audience participation.
24:42
SPEAKER_04: We'll listen and find out.
24:43
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm really excited for her idea.
24:45
SPEAKER_01: It's a good one.
24:46
SPEAKER_01: All right, so before we go to break, I'm gonna play obviously another siffray song.
24:50
SPEAKER_01: This is his song, also known as my song.
24:54
SPEAKER_01: Not my song, not Lauren's song, this is Lobby's song.
24:56
SPEAKER_04: Got it, love it.
24:57
SPEAKER_04: All right.
25:15
SPEAKER_08: And no one can take it away.
25:24
SPEAKER_08: It's been so long, but now you're here, here to stay, and I wonder if you know what it means to find your dreams come true.
26:02
SPEAKER_08: And no one can make it alive.
26:10
SPEAKER_08: It's been so long since someone could make me cry, and I wonder if you know what it means to laugh as tears go by.
26:39
SPEAKER_08: I may not always sing in you, and sometimes you don't hear me, but you don't have to be near me to know that I'm singing.
26:56
SPEAKER_08: This is I saw And nothing can make it so and it's strong.
27:16
SPEAKER_10: I know why, and I wonder, really not always sing and chew, and sometimes you don't hear me, but you don't have to be near me to know that I'm singing.
28:48
SPEAKER_08: This is my song, and nothing can make it die.
29:01
SPEAKER_08: It's been so long, and it's strong.
29:09
SPEAKER_08: I know I wonder if you really really love C's, and whether it's background or in your foreground, the wake-up call on KSJE is where it's at.
30:10
SPEAKER_04: Hey, listen, we at uh Valerie, one of my all-time favorite friends, she's been on the show before, too.
30:16
SPEAKER_04: She's an author, she's a hygienist, she's just a uh a Johnny on the spot kind of lady.
30:22
SPEAKER_04: Valerie, when we when I was in sitting in your seat the other day, you gave me a suggestion for a show.
30:29
SPEAKER_04: And I want to talk about it and let you know that if we decide to use it, we're gonna send you a hundred dollars.
30:36
SPEAKER_04: So explain exactly what your your uh what your idea was.
30:43
SPEAKER_02: So I have an idea that I would incorporate into a presentation that I'll give and I'd do a little survey of what is your walk-up song?
30:53
SPEAKER_02: What is your motivational song?
30:56
SPEAKER_02: So I just had some music playing just today and had one of the popular songs from the greatest showman called This Is Me.
31:06
SPEAKER_02: So I think a lot of people have their inspiration song that gets them motivated and pumped up.
31:12
SPEAKER_04: You know, and when you asked me that the other day in the chair, I was like, you know, I there's so many.
31:18
SPEAKER_04: I hit the table, made Rin grin.
31:21
SPEAKER_01: Well, it made my can go I thought that was funny.
31:24
SPEAKER_04: Anyway.
31:24
SPEAKER_04: Anyway, I um I I I couldn't come up with one particular, so I'm gonna work on that and we're gonna put it out there to the audience.
31:32
SPEAKER_04: And if we get some participation, you, my dear, are gonna be the winner of a hundred dollar bill.
31:37
SPEAKER_04: And I'll deliver it personally, but it's gonna cost you a hug.
31:41
SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
31:44
SPEAKER_02: Easy anyway, that that's for free.
31:47
SPEAKER_04: Oh, super.
31:48
SPEAKER_04: All right, well, listen, I appreciate you very much, and just keep listening, I'll let you know.
31:53
SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
31:54
SPEAKER_04: You bet.
31:54
SPEAKER_04: Have a good one.
31:55
SPEAKER_01: Well, that was the lovely Valerie.
31:57
unknown: Yeah.
31:57
SPEAKER_01: Who after that call we asked her, she mentioned the Greatest Showman song, This is Me as one of her walk-up songs.
32:04
SPEAKER_01: And the other song she mentioned was Well, she mentioned a couple.
32:07
SPEAKER_04: She said, The Greatest Showman, this is me, and then uh uh Bon Job, she goes Bob Jovi, which I'm sure she mentioned is uh my life.
32:17
SPEAKER_04: It's my life.
32:18
SPEAKER_01: It's my life.
32:19
SPEAKER_01: That's a good one.
32:19
SPEAKER_01: That's a good one.
32:20
SPEAKER_01: I have to think a little bit about my walk-up song.
32:23
SPEAKER_04: I can tell you what mine used to be years ago when I was my first time single, was uh uh old time rock and roll, Bob C.
32:31
SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a good one.
32:32
SPEAKER_04: Because I would crank that up early in the morning and I would dance around the house in my underwear and white shirt.
32:36
SPEAKER_04: Oh hell yeah.
32:37
SPEAKER_04: And white socks.
32:38
SPEAKER_01: Now, if anybody listening, if you have a walk-up motivational song, imagine you're about to take the stage at some sort of an event, whether it be a TED talk or a concert or what have you.
32:49
SPEAKER_01: What's the song you would want to play before you walk on to let everybody know what you're about?
32:54
SPEAKER_01: And uh you can email us.
32:55
SPEAKER_04: You can.
32:56
SPEAKER_04: Uh Interwestconcepts.com, all one word, all over case, I and T E R W E S T C O N C E P T S and we would definitely love to hear from you.
33:06
SPEAKER_04: We're gonna see if we can't get a few of these.
33:08
SPEAKER_04: And we're definitely gonna do have to we'll have to start the show with Valerie's.
33:12
SPEAKER_01: Yes.
33:13
SPEAKER_01: Oh, of course.
33:14
SPEAKER_01: Well, they're all that's what's gonna be fun about the show is that almost all of those songs are pump-up songs.
33:18
SPEAKER_01: So it's like the whole show by the end, you're just gonna be brimming with energy.
33:22
SPEAKER_04: You're gonna want to go out and eat and kill a dragon.
33:24
SPEAKER_01: Yes, absolutely.
33:25
SPEAKER_01: Slow.
33:26
SPEAKER_01: Even though they're an endangered species.
33:29
SPEAKER_01: Um You know what?
33:30
SPEAKER_01: Speaking of like a song that kind of pumps you up.
33:32
SPEAKER_01: This is an interesting next one.
33:34
SPEAKER_01: I was listening to this when I was getting into Lobby Sifray.
33:37
SPEAKER_01: Uh it's just called I Got The Dot dot dot.
33:40
SPEAKER_01: And it's a very smooth, cool song.
33:42
SPEAKER_01: But you'll notice about halfway through, there is an incredibly famous hook in it that uh Eminem used in one of his songs.
33:51
SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
33:51
SPEAKER_01: And once you hear it, if you're f if you're familiar with Eminem, you'll recognize it right off the bat.
33:55
SPEAKER_04: Well, hold on, I'm gonna dust off your crown because Queen Segway did it again.
33:59
SPEAKER_01: Thank you, thank you.
34:01
SPEAKER_01: I I'm always glad to uh grace my subject.
34:05
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I got my scepter out.
34:09
SPEAKER_01: But uh, here's Lobby.
34:10
SPEAKER_01: He's got the he's got the something.
34:12
SPEAKER_01: He's got the je ne saqua, if you will.
34:15
SPEAKER_04: Lots of genese quoi.
34:59
SPEAKER_08: I got the blue, but I don't mind.
35:04
SPEAKER_08: All I have to do is get to you, and then I feel just bad.
35:10
SPEAKER_08: I'm on a down, but not all the way.
35:15
SPEAKER_08: When I feel that all you do, you think I stop and then I feel okay.
35:20
SPEAKER_08: Yes, don't go you're the best way.
35:44
SPEAKER_08: I got the blue, got it up today When I think I make it hard to be a person fight today got the air, and it makes me glad When I feel it's fine, you give me rock and roll, and then I feel it bad.
40:44
SPEAKER_01: Well, he got wait, wait.
40:46
SPEAKER_04: How many seconds?
40:47
SPEAKER_01: Oh zero now.
40:49
SPEAKER_01: I was trying to count down Dave and I couldn't make up my mind.
40:54
SPEAKER_01: Seven seconds.
40:57
SPEAKER_01: Two seconds.
40:59
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that was of course Lobby Sifre, who we are featuring today on the show.
41:03
SPEAKER_01: And that song um is very famously sampled in a very famous MM song called My Name Is.
41:10
SPEAKER_01: And um, I'm just gonna play the opening for you.
41:12
SPEAKER_01: So in case you weren't already familiar, this is what a lot of people uh recognize that song from.
41:20
SPEAKER_00: My name is My name is My name is Lam Shady.
41:26
SPEAKER_00: My name is Ma.
41:27
SPEAKER_00: My name is My name is Slam Shady.
41:32
SPEAKER_01: Oh real Slim Shady! Excuse me.
41:36
SPEAKER_01: Slim Shady.
41:38
SPEAKER_01: Um I would say Lobby Sifre was the original Slim Shady, but uh I don't know.
41:44
SPEAKER_01: Rap and hip hop weren't really his his his bag, at least yet.
41:48
SPEAKER_01: I mean he could be into it now.
41:49
SPEAKER_04: How old is he's eighty-something, you said?
41:51
SPEAKER_04: He's eighty years eighty years old.
41:54
SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely.
41:55
SPEAKER_01: Well, and he doesn't just do music, he's he's um published essays, uh stage and television plays, and he's he's earned a lot of awards.
42:03
SPEAKER_01: He's a renaissance man, if you will.
42:05
SPEAKER_01: He does a lot of different things.
42:07
SPEAKER_04: Well, listen, it's R D on the W U C, which is exclusively on K R K S J E.
42:15
SPEAKER_01: That was perfect.
42:17
SPEAKER_01: That was sounding so good.
42:19
SPEAKER_01: R D on W U C on K-S-J-E.
42:23
SPEAKER_01: Uh uh what is it?
42:25
SPEAKER_01: Uh FYI, it's R N L O L.
42:31
SPEAKER_04: There you go.
42:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
42:32
SPEAKER_01: And we're we're just kind of enjoying this first weekend in February.
42:36
SPEAKER_04: We are.
42:37
SPEAKER_01: The year is trucking along, a lot has already happened, and we're doing anything for Valentine's, you and Derek?
42:42
SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
42:43
SPEAKER_04: Do you guys normally do stuff?
42:44
SPEAKER_01: Not really.
42:45
SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say, I don't recall you doing you guys do stuff in October for sure.
42:50
SPEAKER_01: We do.
42:50
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, a lot of dress up stuff, I know.
42:53
SPEAKER_01: October's the big month for us because not only there's Derek's birthday is in October, then there's Halloween, and then there's my birthday, so in November.
43:01
SPEAKER_01: So those those like three weeks are a big deal for us.
43:04
SPEAKER_01: But February, we're just kind of like, ah, I love you, babe.
43:07
SPEAKER_01: You want to watch a movie?
43:09
SPEAKER_01: I guess.
43:10
SPEAKER_04: For me, Valentine's Day is kind of like St.
43:12
SPEAKER_04: Patty's Day and New Year's Eve.
43:14
SPEAKER_04: You know, those those are all for amateur drinkers that have so Valentine's typically is for all you amateur lovers out there that yeah, amateurs.
43:24
SPEAKER_01: Well, and I would, you know, there's something to that.
43:26
SPEAKER_01: Because I would say Valentine's Day is is bigger for people who are in newer relationships when you feel like you have to prove your love.
43:35
SPEAKER_01: But Derek and I have been together ten years this year.
43:37
SPEAKER_01: So it's kind of like we know we love each other.
43:42
SPEAKER_04: Well, let me ask you something too.
43:43
SPEAKER_04: So next week we are before the 8th, which is the woo the Sunday before Valentine's Day, which happens to fall on Friday this.
43:51
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, or a Saturday.
43:52
SPEAKER_04: Which is Saturday.
43:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
43:53
SPEAKER_04: Um sorry about that.
43:55
SPEAKER_04: Friday the 13th.
43:57
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god! Oh before Valentine's Day.
44:02
SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be cursed.
44:04
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love that though.
44:06
SPEAKER_04: That's kind of cute.
44:07
SPEAKER_04: You know, but uh so next week you're gonna we're gonna have what what it weird love songs?
44:11
SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, kinda weird.
44:13
SPEAKER_01: I was calling it just crazy love.
44:15
SPEAKER_01: Okay because it's it's um heavily inspired by uh Wuthering Heights.
44:21
SPEAKER_04: Oh, there you go.
44:22
SPEAKER_01: And you'll hear all my Wuthering Heights rants next year or next year, next week.
44:26
SPEAKER_01: Um Wuthering Heights is of course the classic eighteen forty seven novel by Emily Bronte um about a really unhealthy obsessive love between two miserable people.
44:38
SPEAKER_01: Um and I
44:45
SPEAKER_04: Did I say that out loud?
44:46
SPEAKER_04: I just wanted that to stay inside and kind of just like it.
44:49
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it sort of externalized itself through legs and walked out.
44:52
SPEAKER_01: There's a new there's a new Wuthering Heights movie coming out, which of course I have opinions on because I'm a purist.
44:58
SPEAKER_01: It's not like the book, How Dare It.
45:00
SPEAKER_01: But um no, that sort of inspired a playlist of songs where it's like people are kind of crazy in love with each other for better or for worse.
45:07
SPEAKER_01: So stay tuned for that.
45:09
SPEAKER_04: I'm excited about it.
45:10
SPEAKER_04: Uh plus we check it out our webpage too because we're getting new pictures on there.
45:15
SPEAKER_04: We're just gonna have some fun this year.
45:16
SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have some fun because let our hair down.
45:19
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
45:19
SPEAKER_01: In previous years we've tried too hard or maybe not hard enough, and then this year we're just gonna be goofy with it.
45:25
SPEAKER_04: I don't know, Ren.
45:26
SPEAKER_04: You're still kinda this morning when we were going through this.
45:31
SPEAKER_04: You're still kind of a little anal.
45:33
SPEAKER_01: You were like, are you ready for the show?
45:35
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I guess.
45:37
SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't like it.
45:39
SPEAKER_01: You're like, okay, well what else do you want to do?
45:41
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I don't know.
45:43
SPEAKER_01: So that's why I'm kinda glad that we ended up doing lobby sifre, because he's doing a lot of the heavy lifting in this episode.
45:49
SPEAKER_01: All of his music is good.
45:51
SPEAKER_04: I want you to say his name now for me three times.
45:53
SPEAKER_01: Lobby siffre, lobby sifre, lobby siffrey.
45:56
SPEAKER_04: Bingo, there you go.
45:58
SPEAKER_01: Who uh yeah, is just a cool British dude.
46:01
SPEAKER_01: Um he's kind of like the Beatles, where if you only ever heard him sing, you'd be like, ah, that's an American.
46:06
SPEAKER_01: And then you hear him talk, and he's the most proper British gentleman you've ever heard.
46:13
SPEAKER_04: I've liked all his songs thus far.
46:15
SPEAKER_04: I'm anxious to hear another one.
46:17
SPEAKER_01: You know what?
46:17
SPEAKER_01: Since we're talking so much about love, let's play another love song of his.
46:21
SPEAKER_04: Coming up too, we got the Zinaran before the show ends, one of my favorite things.
46:24
SPEAKER_04: So there's a new intro for that as well.
46:27
SPEAKER_01: Oh, there is with my fun little princess, my fairy princess opening.
46:31
SPEAKER_01: I'm excited about that.
46:32
SPEAKER_01: But uh, here is nothing in the world like love.
46:39
SPEAKER_04: That's very true.
46:40
SPEAKER_01: Any kind of love, platonic, romantic, I agree.
46:44
SPEAKER_01: It's it's just what makes the world go round.
46:46
SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
46:50
SPEAKER_08: There's nothing in the world like love.
46:55
SPEAKER_08: It's a feeling you can never get tired of.
47:17
SPEAKER_08: People say it's what the world is made of.
47:21
SPEAKER_08: Well, I don't know about that, but it's a natural fact that love is where it's at.
47:30
SPEAKER_08: Just look at you now.
47:33
SPEAKER_08: You're fighting with your back to the wall.
47:37
SPEAKER_08: In a great big city that you don't know at all.
47:42
SPEAKER_08: Now you're more than frightened.
47:44
SPEAKER_08: Cause the city just rude.
47:46
SPEAKER_08: If you don't find someone, it's quains for you.
47:52
SPEAKER_08: Let me help you, let me try.
47:54
SPEAKER_08: Let me love you till I die.
47:57
SPEAKER_08: That's all I want to do.
48:01
SPEAKER_08: If you love me, tell me now.
48:04
SPEAKER_08: Don't be scared, I'll show you how.
48:07
SPEAKER_08: That's what I want to do.
48:11
SPEAKER_08: Now that we've found one another.
48:16
SPEAKER_08: Oh, how lucky we are There are people right here in the sea Who we'll never, never meet.
48:28
SPEAKER_08: One day we'll love.
48:31
SPEAKER_08: It's more than a pity.
48:46
SPEAKER_08: There's nothing in the world like love.
48:52
SPEAKER_08: There is nothing that will ever be instead of.
49:00
SPEAKER_08: It's more than a ring.
49:03
SPEAKER_08: It's everything.
49:07
SPEAKER_08: There's nothing in the world like love.
49:13
SPEAKER_08: It's the sort of thing that makes you kind of laugh.
50:47
SPEAKER_08: That's my name.
50:55
SPEAKER_08: And I gotta get that.
51:02
SPEAKER_08: I'm a people there.
51:35
SPEAKER_08: But if you look at the house, don't have to be done.
54:10
SPEAKER_04: I uh I I'm digging his music.
54:12
SPEAKER_04: It's got a nice groove.
54:15
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's he's really good at a lot of different things.
54:17
SPEAKER_01: Uh the stuff that I found when I when I first started researching him was was much more folk, but he definitely has some like groovy albums.
54:26
SPEAKER_01: But um he's British, so my next quote is gonna be British.
54:30
SPEAKER_01: Uh it is based on the classic English reverse, which is may you live in interesting times.
54:40
SPEAKER_01: Which is to say, you know, the most interesting times throughout all of history are also really tumultuous and scary when you live in them.
54:47
SPEAKER_01: So let me play the intro.
54:48
SPEAKER_01: Let me play the intro.
54:49
SPEAKER_03: I'm ready.
54:50
SPEAKER_03: Oh, the wake-up call is almost over for another week.
54:54
SPEAKER_03: And it's time to get your Zen on with the Zen of Rand.
55:04
SPEAKER_01: This quote comes to us from the absolute master, J.R.R.
55:09
SPEAKER_01: Tolkien, who you know wrote uh many books, but most famously the Lord of the Rings.
55:16
SPEAKER_01: He says, I wish it need not have happened in my time, said Frodo.
55:22
SPEAKER_01: So do I, said Gandalf.
55:24
SPEAKER_01: And so do all who live to see such times.
55:27
SPEAKER_01: But that is not for them to decide.
55:30
SPEAKER_01: All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.
55:40
SPEAKER_01: This year is already cheap enough to be let's say very interesting.
55:44
SPEAKER_01: So all you can do is uh do your best, live right by your own code and uh help out your fellow man.
55:52
SPEAKER_04: Alright, so how many times have you written uh 25 instead of 26?
55:56
SPEAKER_01: Uh so far, none.
55:58
SPEAKER_04: None.
55:58
SPEAKER_01: None.
55:59
SPEAKER_01: But that's only because I I haven't had much paperwork to do.
56:02
SPEAKER_04: I haven't had to write it down.
56:04
SPEAKER_04: So you did it is not it is not January.
56:07
SPEAKER_04: We're February.
56:09
SPEAKER_01: We are February.
56:10
SPEAKER_01: But it is the first February.
56:13
SPEAKER_01: Weekend of February.
56:13
SPEAKER_01: Okay, so January's in the books, and now it's February.
56:16
SPEAKER_01: So just do your best, folks.
56:18
SPEAKER_01: That's all I can ask of you.
56:19
SPEAKER_04: There you go.
56:20
SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm excited.
56:21
SPEAKER_04: This is uh W U C.
56:23
SPEAKER_04: We're on K-S-J-E and it's R D.
56:25
SPEAKER_01: R D.
56:26
SPEAKER_01: Oh.
56:26
SPEAKER_01: R and D.
56:27
SPEAKER_01: I love that.
56:28
