- 0:01The raw power generated by an electricity power plant is far
- 0:06greater than any single house can sustain.
- 0:10Thus, the utility company utilizes step down Transformers
- 0:15to systematically bring the power down to a level that the
- 0:18homes and the wiring to the homes can sustain.
- 0:23A similar principle is at work with regard to the universal
- 0:26forces and the ability of any individual to receive and hold
- 0:30those forces. This is the reason that much of
- 0:34the work done in any yogic practice is to prepare the being
- 0:39to receive and utilize the force that descends.
- 0:44Raja Yoga provides a great example.
- 0:47The 1st 2 steps, Yama and Niyama, include various vital
- 0:52purifications and control and management of the vital forces
- 0:56active in the being such as non injury, non stealing,
- 1:01truthfulness, contentment, et cetera.
- 1:06If any of these vital predilections is active, it can
- 1:10either misuse the energy coming in or waste it without
- 1:13accomplishing the spiritual objective.
- 1:18The next stage includes asana in terms of maintaining a solid
- 1:22physical frame and capacity to hold and move energy.
- 1:26While this is mostly associated with the physical frame,
- 1:30actually the term asana can signify the entire being at all
- 1:35its levels. The goal of a solid seat,
- 1:39therefore, is to have a framework, physical, vital and
- 1:43mental, that can hold the yogic forces when they enter and are
- 1:48activated in the being. The next step is pranayam, which
- 1:53is the management of the prana, or the vital force that
- 1:58activates and operates within the physical body.
- 2:03The prana is also the link between the external forces and
- 2:07the physical frame and is usually controlled through
- 2:10management of the breathing process.
- 2:13There is a direct link also between the management of the
- 2:16thoughts and the management of the breath.
- 2:19So it is an essential step to gain control of the breath,
- 2:24purify the channels through which the various forms of prana
- 2:27move, and bring the thoughts also under control, eventually
- 2:32leading to a quieting of the mental process.
- 2:36It is only after these four preliminary stages are
- 2:40accomplished that Raja Yoga moves on to the deeper practices
- 2:45that bring direct connection to the spiritual reality and the
- 2:49forces that are at work at those levels.
- 2:53A disciple asks, quote, sweet mother, do the universal vital
- 2:58forces have any limits? End Quote.
- 3:02The mother answers, quote. I don't think that forces have a
- 3:06limit because in comparison with us they are certainly unlimited,
- 3:11but it's our capacity of reception that is limited.
- 3:15We cannot absorb them beyond a certain measure, and then we
- 3:19must keep a balance between the expenditure and the capacity to
- 3:23receive. If one spends suddenly in a kind
- 3:27of impulse, for example in an impulsive movement, if one
- 3:32spends much more than one has received, one needs a brief
- 3:36moment of concentration, calm receptivity, to absorb universal
- 3:42forces. You must put yourself in a
- 3:45certain condition to receive them, and then they last for a
- 3:50certain time and once you have spent them, you must begin again
- 3:55to receive them. It is in this sense that there
- 3:58are limits. It isn't the forces that are
- 4:01limited, it is the receptivity. End Quote reference Shriyaro
