- 0:00Speaker 1: Here this afternoon, and us, of course includes our producer
- 0:04Speaker 1: Cameron D. Parker. The D on the birth certificate stands
- 0:07Speaker 1: for Dallas, as in the name of his favorite football team,
- 0:13Speaker 1: which still has yet to name a head coach any
- 0:16Speaker 1: more intel on that from you. Cam on what Jerry's
- 0:19Speaker 1: planning to do, He has no idea. He doesn't know
- 0:21Speaker 1: what's going on.
- 0:22Speaker 2: He interviewed Brian Schottenheimer for a second time for some reason,
- 0:26Speaker 2: who has never been a head coach. I don't think
- 0:28Speaker 2: so things are going great in Dallas. It's gonna be great,
- 0:33Speaker 2: you know. Aaron Glenn's been hired, Robert Saal has been hired,
- 0:37Speaker 2: and Johnson's been hired, Mike Crable's been hired.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Bill Belichick's been hired. It's not good. It's not good.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I'm extending I think my Cowboys hiatus for probably the
- 0:49Speaker 2: next decade. If they hire Brian Schottenheimer. I'm more than.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Out on the Dallas cowb For those of you who
- 0:56Speaker 1: are unfamiliar with the quote unquote hiatus of which Cam
- 1:00Speaker 1: just spoke, it is his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys,
- 1:04Speaker 1: but out of frustration after their playoff loss at home
- 1:09Speaker 1: to the Packers last year. He vowed not to watch
- 1:11Speaker 1: them this season. This just concluded season, and by and
- 1:15Speaker 1: large he held to that. There was there was one
- 1:17Speaker 1: game you did watch the whole game. I forgot which one.
- 1:20Speaker 1: It was not the whole game. I watched the very
- 1:23Speaker 1: end of the Redskins Cowboys game. Commanders, excuse me, whatever,
- 1:27Speaker 1: when you know Turpin had the kickoff return touchdown and
- 1:30Speaker 1: then McLaurin had that last second touchdown and the Cowboys
- 1:33Speaker 1: came back and yeah, scored again or whatever. It was
- 1:36Speaker 1: that crazy finish. I watched that. Yeah, there was another
- 1:38Speaker 1: game after that that you want? No, Okay, all right,
- 1:42Speaker 1: So he he has decided, you know, he wasn't going
- 1:45Speaker 1: to watch them now, unlike most disgruntled, disenchanted, disaffected Cowboy
- 1:56Speaker 1: fans who have moved on and said I'm on to
- 2:01Speaker 1: another team. I'm not rooting for this team ever. Again,
- 2:03Speaker 1: he still claims the Cowboys as his team, but he's
- 2:08Speaker 1: kind of estranged from them emotionally. Is that a proper
- 2:11Speaker 1: way to describe it? Sure? Okay, So in other words,
- 2:15Speaker 1: you do have hope, No, there's no hope. Hope's gone. Okay,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I sort of say there's still hope. You're still hoping
- 2:22Speaker 1: that they figure out something and get it turned.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Unless the whole Jones family perishes, then we're stuck in
- 2:31Speaker 2: this the next couple decades.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Okay, So that then begs the question, why would you
- 2:36Speaker 1: continue to root for them? I'm not rooting for them,
- 2:38Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not, I'm not a fan them. Why
- 2:40Speaker 1: would you not then move on and adopt a new
- 2:43Speaker 1: team as you're baking to do that? That's you grew
- 2:45Speaker 1: up with the team because of your ties to it.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I don't have any ties any other teams, and I'd
- 2:49Speaker 2: rather just be able to enjoy watching the NFL as
- 2:52Speaker 2: a as a fan.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I kind of went down that road with the Rams
- 2:55Speaker 1: through a couple of decades of futility. They were still
- 2:58Speaker 1: my team, but I didn't actively follow them. Even when
- 3:02Speaker 1: I had a NFL Sunday ticket, I didn't. I didn't
- 3:05Speaker 1: watch him as much or whatever because it was frustrating
- 3:08Speaker 1: to watch him. But that still kind of hung onto
- 3:10Speaker 1: and clung the hope even as Georgia Frontier was owning them,
- 3:14Speaker 1: that eventually a new owner might come in and might
- 3:17Speaker 1: turn And that's exactly what happened with the Rams. Now
- 3:19Speaker 1: we know that not to be the case with the Cowboys,
- 3:21Speaker 1: because Jerry will own the team until he perishes, and
- 3:28Speaker 1: then Steven is going to run the team and be
- 3:32Speaker 1: true belief that he's not going to do anything different
- 3:34Speaker 1: than how Jerry.
- 3:35Speaker 2: It kind of sounds like he's already somewhat running the
- 3:37Speaker 2: team from everything I've read, And if that's the case,
- 3:42Speaker 2: then he's a big part of why the Cowboys are
- 3:44Speaker 2: where they're at right now.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, So I just wanted to lay that out there.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You know, that's that's where Cameron stood with his team,
- 3:52Speaker 1: because I know I've had several people say, well, Cameron
- 3:55Speaker 1: sounds miserable. I said, well, he's not really miserable per se.
- 3:58Speaker 1: He watches other thing, but he is completely disenchanted with
- 4:02Speaker 1: his team. And they're like, well, why did he switch teams?
- 4:05Speaker 1: But you say, that's not the way to do it.
- 4:07Speaker 1: You can't do that as a sports fan, just gonna
- 4:09Speaker 1: switch teams because your team is bad. Now, my son's
- 4:13Speaker 1: done it twice. My oldest he was he was a
- 4:16Speaker 1: Jaguars fan when he was little, and and he he
- 4:19Speaker 1: reconciled his in his mind when they weren't good that
- 4:23Speaker 1: he became a fan mainly because of the uniform, and
- 4:26Speaker 1: that was by large, as I do remember it, although
- 4:29Speaker 1: he did really like Mark Brunell and Fred Taylor back
- 4:31Speaker 1: in those days. But then he said, you know, I
- 4:34Speaker 1: live in Texas, I should be a Cowboys fan. Uh.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So then he put all of his emotional equity into
- 4:45Speaker 1: the Cowboys, which I warned him not to do, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: he rooted vociferously for them for many years, bought the merch,
- 4:53Speaker 1: went to the uh went to games. He was at
- 4:56Speaker 1: that Green Bay playoff game. And so then finally, I think,
- 5:00Speaker 1: also in conjunction with the young lady that he has
- 5:05Speaker 1: had as his girlfriend for over a year now. She's
- 5:07Speaker 1: from Wisconsin, but she's not necessarily a big Packer fan.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So they decided on their own to adopt the new
- 5:13Speaker 1: NFL team and make it their favorite team. And they,
- 5:15Speaker 1: for whatever reason picked the Miami Dolphins. So because they
- 5:19Speaker 1: think there's some hope on down the road for the
- 5:21Speaker 1: Dolphins or whatever who just missed the playoffs, and they
- 5:23Speaker 1: like Mike McDaniels, the head coach. So yeah, you know,
- 5:26Speaker 1: so they went that. Rob. But you're saying, you can't
- 5:28Speaker 1: emotionally divorce yourself from the Cowboys.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You can't quit them. No, you know, I don't think so,
- 5:34Speaker 2: I mean quit them. I had no emotional attachment to
- 5:39Speaker 2: the Cowboys this season. I felt no feelings this year
- 5:42Speaker 2: and continue to do that until some Mets drastic changes happen.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And it's just not going to happen currently with the
- 5:49Speaker 2: way Jerry and Steven have been operating this Cowboys team.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And you say that, you know because in some folks
- 5:55Speaker 1: mind what you just said. They said, well, they're already
- 5:57Speaker 1: dead to him, he might as well move on to
- 5:59Speaker 1: another team. But you're saying you can't invest your rooting interest,
- 6:03Speaker 1: in your emotions in another team because of that, You're
- 6:08Speaker 1: just you're just kind of in purgatory right now as
- 6:11Speaker 1: a fan because the team that you grew up rooting
- 6:15Speaker 1: for and through all of these years in into your
- 6:16Speaker 1: adult life has disappointed and disenfranchised you to the point
- 6:21Speaker 1: where you cannot root for them, but you cannot find
- 6:26Speaker 1: some other flare in your heart to be able to
- 6:30Speaker 1: root for another team. Is that right? Well? I enjoy
- 6:33Speaker 1: watching football.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I enjoyed the football this past weekend, and it's fun
- 6:37Speaker 2: to be able to watch a game without having rooting interest.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I mean, Phil's Ravens with a lot of fun that
- 6:41Speaker 2: came down to the very end. The same thing for
- 6:44Speaker 2: Commanders and Lions. So Ramsey or Ramse Eagles really enjoy that.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Chiefs Texan So you know the Rob lowme with him
- 6:50Speaker 2: watching the football game with the NFL haad on, that's
- 6:53Speaker 2: me and he'll continue to be me the foreseeable future,
- 6:56Speaker 2: and I'm okay with it. It's you know, I'm excited to
- 6:59Speaker 2: see if Mahomes can win three straight. I'm excited to
- 7:02Speaker 2: see maybe if Bill's Mafia and Josh Allen can can
- 7:05Speaker 2: finally get over the hump again.
- 7:06Speaker 1: But you're rooting for either one to beat the other.
- 7:09Speaker 2: You know, I think I have a little bit more
- 7:11Speaker 2: rooting interest for the Chiefs probably sixty forty now Eagles
- 7:15Speaker 2: Commanders that that one's tough because they are arrival with
- 7:17Speaker 2: the Cowboys.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Now, I still hate the Eagles.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I can't stand Nick Siriannie, so Commanders and it's and
- 7:25Speaker 2: I'm kind of on dan Quinn's side, especially because he
- 7:28Speaker 2: was let go by the Cowboys. So that would really
- 7:32Speaker 2: just stick it to Jerry Jones, just really stick with
- 7:34Speaker 2: dan Quinn going to the Super Bowl. Half of the
- 7:38Speaker 2: defense is former Cowboys players, that'd be funny. And of
- 7:41Speaker 2: course Sam caused me. He's a long horn even though
- 7:44Speaker 2: I think he got banged up pretty bad and they're
- 7:47Speaker 2: the Vision a round win.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Hope he's okay.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I thought some prayers with him, but it'll be fun
- 7:51Speaker 2: to see, you know, and you know, Chiefs have I
- 7:54Speaker 2: think they have one long horn on their team. I
- 7:56Speaker 2: think the Bills have anybody and Eagles of course more
- 7:59Speaker 2: Ojabo got his first sack of the season and that
- 8:02Speaker 2: was the final drive.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, well, uh okay, you know, I
- 8:09Speaker 1: just thought it because they get asked a lot about this.
- 8:12Speaker 1: People ask me about you, but then and some people
- 8:15Speaker 1: feel for you, and then some people are just curious
- 8:17Speaker 1: as to how you can completely cut off your allegiance
- 8:22Speaker 1: to one team without transferring allegiance to another, that you
- 8:26Speaker 1: can just kind of float out there and do it.
- 8:28Speaker 1: But you're saying it's it's really.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Not that diff If your partner is abusing you, yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 2: you know, emotionally, is the best team to just cut
- 8:34Speaker 2: them off?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you do, But then they usually go and they
- 8:36Speaker 1: find another partner. Sometimes some they don't.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Maybe you don't, you know, maybe that's just just you know,
- 8:41Speaker 2: be single for life.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Okay, all right, So there it is that's out there
- 8:46Speaker 1: that they're okay. We've got other things that are gonna
- 8:48Speaker 1: get do. We will talk some more about the NFL playoffs.
- 8:51Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from Arthur Kaluma, the long worn basketball team.
- 8:54Speaker 1: What a big win for Texas last night beating Missouri
- 8:57Speaker 1: twenty second rand Missouri at Moody Center sixty three and
- 9:00Speaker 1: Kluma had a double double in the game. We'll hear
- 9:02Speaker 1: from him this hour. We do have Inconceivable, got a
- 9:06Speaker 1: couple of fast food junk food related items and then
- 9:10Speaker 1: a couple other bizarre stories that could only fall into
- 9:13Speaker 1: the file of Inconceivable. We'll have that. We'll talk more
- 9:17Speaker 1: college basketball of the men's and women's vari who's a
- 9:20Speaker 1: big game tomorrow night for the Texas women at home
- 9:23Speaker 1: against Tennessee. And we'll also hear from Rodney Terry Longhorn
- 9:30Speaker 1: men's coach. That'll be coming up to the four o'clock
- 9:32Speaker 1: hour as well. So we've got a lot on the table.
- 9:34Speaker 1: As always, we're more than happy to welcome your input,
- 9:37Speaker 1: your questions, your thoughts, your comments. You can do that
- 9:41Speaker 1: a couple of different ways. One you can reach us
- 9:44Speaker 1: via text on the text line. You text the word
- 9:47Speaker 1: texas followed by your question of comment to eight one
- 9:51Speaker 1: five three zero. So text the word texas follow by
- 9:54Speaker 1: your question or comment to eight one five three zero.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Standard messaging and data rates may apply. And the other
- 10:00Speaker 1: way is our talkback feature. If you have the iHeart
- 10:02Speaker 1: Radio app downloaded on your smartphone, really easy to do.
- 10:06Speaker 1: If you don't, you can do it. It's free and
- 10:08Speaker 1: easy and all that. And then you just search in
- 10:10Speaker 1: the little search window. AM thirteen under the Zone pops
- 10:13Speaker 1: right up, and there's a there are two buttons there.
- 10:16Speaker 1: One's a little white arrow butt and that's if you
- 10:18Speaker 1: just want to listen to what's going on the air.
- 10:20Speaker 1: But there's a red button with a white microphone inside it.
- 10:23Speaker 1: You tap that button. That's our talkback feature and you
- 10:25Speaker 1: can leave us a voice message of up to thirty
- 10:27Speaker 1: seconds and we'll play it on the air. That's another
- 10:29Speaker 1: way to reach out to us there on the talkback
- 10:32Speaker 1: feature on the iHeart Radio app. So a lot of
- 10:34Speaker 1: things to get to that's coming up here on AM
- 10:37Speaker 1: thirteen under the Zone and where you always listen to
- 10:39Speaker 1: us for free on the iHeart Radio app. Last night
- 10:41Speaker 1: at Moody Center. Texas kind of went over Missouri sixty
- 10:43Speaker 1: one to fifty three, and it came at the night
- 10:47Speaker 1: with a long word shot only thirty four percent from
- 10:49Speaker 1: the floor, only twenty percent from three point range. There
- 10:51Speaker 1: were four of twenty. But they did several things very well.
- 10:54Speaker 1: First of all, they defended a Missouri team that came
- 10:58Speaker 1: into the game shooting thirty eight percent as a team
- 11:04Speaker 1: from three point range. That's really impressive if you know
- 11:09Speaker 1: how the math works. If you're if you're shooting forty
- 11:12Speaker 1: percent from three point range, that's the same as fifty
- 11:14Speaker 1: percent from inside the arc, and most teams shoot around
- 11:20Speaker 1: thirty thirty one, thirty two, thirty three. I think the
- 11:23Speaker 1: long Run shoot thirty four percent, although that percent has
- 11:27Speaker 1: probably went down last night since they only had four
- 11:28Speaker 1: out of twenty, but most teams shoot in the low
- 11:33Speaker 1: thirty percent tile off that the better ones can shoot
- 11:37Speaker 1: toward the mid Well, they shoot thirty eight percent as
- 11:39Speaker 1: a team, but they miss some shots early from beyond
- 11:42Speaker 1: the arc, and the long Runes did a good job
- 11:43Speaker 1: depending on the perimeter. Julian Larry did a really good
- 11:48Speaker 1: job working against Caleb Grill, the former Iowa State guard
- 11:54Speaker 1: who camera noticed. You know, look, how old did you say?
- 11:58Speaker 1: Caleb Grill looked to you in the game last He
- 12:00Speaker 1: was a six year senior.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I thought he was my age for a second. I
- 12:03Speaker 2: actually googled. I actually googled his name, and it was like, Okay,
- 12:07Speaker 2: he's got to be twenty seven years old. He's twenty four. Yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 2: but it's funny. One of the director of player recruiting
- 12:15Speaker 2: at Texas, Tristan Lacone's been the staff for a few years,
- 12:18Speaker 2: actually played against him when he was at Iowa State.
- 12:21Speaker 1: When Tristan when Chris Pierre was the coach and Tristan
- 12:24Speaker 1: was on the team. Yeah, Christan was on the team.
- 12:26Speaker 1: That was three years ago, and he had already been
- 12:33Speaker 1: there for a bit, had Caleb girl. And then he
- 12:39Speaker 1: wound up being dismissed from the team, and then he
- 12:41Speaker 1: came back, and then he winds up transferring. So anyway,
- 12:44Speaker 1: all of that happens, and so the lord Wards had
- 12:46Speaker 1: a good job defending the three. The other thing they
- 12:48Speaker 1: had to do was really dig down and have some
- 12:51Speaker 1: resilience because they went through a stretch in the second half.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I told her their shooting percentage wasn't great and neither
- 12:57Speaker 1: was Missouri. In fact, if you watch the first part
- 13:00Speaker 1: of the game and you'll hear Rodney Terry talk about
- 13:04Speaker 1: that was it two to one at the first time out? Yes,
- 13:08Speaker 1: it was two to one at the first time out.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I think it was six to five. No, it was
- 13:12Speaker 1: five to four at the second because they they changed
- 13:15Speaker 1: the call on what they originally called a goaltending call,
- 13:18Speaker 1: which was a bad call. The ball was still well
- 13:20Speaker 1: on the rise and wasn't in the cylinder and they
- 13:22Speaker 1: called goldtending at first. But they're able to go back
- 13:24Speaker 1: and review that, and they did that during the second
- 13:26Speaker 1: time out ruled that it was indeed not goaltending against Texas,
- 13:30Speaker 1: So it took a basketbak from Missouri. It was five
- 13:32Speaker 1: to four at that point at the under twelve time
- 13:38Speaker 1: out of the first half, and then late in the
- 13:41Speaker 1: first half, long Runs did hit some big shots down
- 13:45Speaker 1: the tragic got some stops and they were up seven
- 13:47Speaker 1: at the half thirty two to twenty five. But Missouri
- 13:49Speaker 1: right out of the gate attacked him the second half,
- 13:51Speaker 1: hit a three, hit some other shots, eventually took the
- 13:54Speaker 1: lead and held the lean most of the second half.
- 13:57Speaker 1: In fact, they had a foot It wasn't a big lead.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Their largest leave was four points, but the Longhorns were
- 14:03Speaker 1: really struggling to make shots. It was forty five forty
- 14:07Speaker 1: one Missouri with eight minutes to go in the game,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and then the Longhorns went on a run. They closed
- 14:12Speaker 1: out the game on a twenty to eight run to
- 14:16Speaker 1: win the contest sixty one to fifty three. Arthur Klume
- 14:20Speaker 1: had a lot to do with it. He had fourteen
- 14:22Speaker 1: points twelve rebounds, his seventh double digit rebounding game of
- 14:26Speaker 1: the season, his fifth double double of the season. He
- 14:28Speaker 1: had a gigantic put back bucket off a miss down
- 14:32Speaker 1: the stretch of the game that widened the Longhorn lead
- 14:35Speaker 1: to five at that point, and was just a big
- 14:37Speaker 1: party and he was a big leader. And that's one
- 14:39Speaker 1: thing that folks had wondered about this Texas team. Who
- 14:41Speaker 1: are the leaders of this team? Well, Kaalum was definitely
- 14:43Speaker 1: one of those. And we visited with him after the
- 14:46Speaker 1: game to talk about the impact of this win and
- 14:47Speaker 1: how they went about achieving it. Because I know it
- 14:50Speaker 1: took an awful lot from you and your teammates to
- 14:52Speaker 1: turn this thing around tonight. But if you've got a
- 14:55Speaker 1: chance and that's some determination. How about your faults on
- 14:59Speaker 1: boots that I lost.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it was an offensive game for us tonight,
- 15:02Speaker 3: but still being able to grind it out, you know,
- 15:05Speaker 3: really crash the glass hard even though shots aren't falling
- 15:08Speaker 3: and getting second team he grew up.
- 15:09Speaker 1: As a team today you definitely do. How important is
- 15:12Speaker 1: it when shots aren't falling to.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Especially in the league like this. I mean, you're gonna
- 15:17Speaker 3: be playing time every night. There's no chance that you
- 15:20Speaker 3: can't win without d games.
- 15:22Speaker 1: And as the games go on, I see you guys
- 15:25Speaker 1: getting close. Now, you guys you're young, you've been now
- 15:27Speaker 1: together and you see like this team's really coming together.
- 15:30Speaker 1: As far as leadership.
- 15:31Speaker 3: There, I mean, we got a lot of older guys
- 15:33Speaker 3: on our team, me, Treymont and Kayden said, especially with
- 15:36Speaker 3: Julian Larry and Jason Kent, we're a pretty old team.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I mean that leadership portion has to come in and
- 15:41Speaker 3: as young players that are really gonna make the impact.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Let me ask you about that work you did on
- 15:46Speaker 1: the glouts on that lous when you were not gonna
- 15:48Speaker 1: let anybody get close to you.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no, that one was fine, but hit back
- 15:53Speaker 3: on and I knew it was gonna bounce off a
- 15:55Speaker 3: certain way.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I was like, Yeah, that's my boy. How important is that?
- 15:58Speaker 1: And then be knowing that you gotta know was shot
- 16:00Speaker 1: at the he's cooking in on Saturday.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I know we saw had the last time we paid
- 16:04Speaker 3: against him, and now they come home.
- 16:07Speaker 1: All right, Hey, great job that I appreciate the time. Yes,
- 16:11Speaker 1: all right, Arthur Kaluma and well traveled player. By the way.
- 16:16Speaker 1: You know, the long Ones faced him three years ago
- 16:19Speaker 1: when he played for Creighton when they came in and
- 16:22Speaker 1: that and uh, they were ranked very highly and Texas
- 16:25Speaker 1: won that game at uh uh at the Irwin Center.
- 16:28Speaker 1: And that was three years ago. And then for two seasons, uh,
- 16:33Speaker 1: they went up against him when he was playing for
- 16:36Speaker 1: Kansas State, and I was always impressed by how hard
- 16:39Speaker 1: that guy works and how he can kind of be
- 16:41Speaker 1: a beast and he also hit a big three and
- 16:44Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff, and uh, and I think
- 16:47Speaker 1: Texas is fortunate to have him. He's he's really provided also,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you know, kind of doing the dirty work that didn't
- 16:53Speaker 1: attract much attention. Kayden Shedrick had nine points, nine rebounds
- 16:57Speaker 1: in the game and a block shot and and also
- 17:00Speaker 1: just here's the tallest guy, the biggest guy on the
- 17:03Speaker 1: floor for Texas Cam and he just completely disregard for
- 17:07Speaker 1: his own body crashing before it. This guy has had
- 17:10Speaker 1: double shoulder surgery and ankle issues and things like that,
- 17:15Speaker 1: diving Todd the floor to get a big tie up
- 17:18Speaker 1: when the long wornes were making their push down the
- 17:21Speaker 1: stretch of the game. He's another guy that just kind
- 17:24Speaker 1: of gave all out effort last night.
- 17:25Speaker 2: I thought he played one of his best games of
- 17:27Speaker 2: the season last night against Missouri in terms of the
- 17:30Speaker 2: way he attacked the glass, the way he battled down low.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I mean, it was a grind of a game last night.
- 17:37Speaker 2: It was a tough game and the team that was
- 17:39Speaker 2: going to be tougher was going to win it. And
- 17:41Speaker 2: I thought, maybe for the first time this season, we
- 17:43Speaker 2: saw that out of Texas from start to finish. I mean,
- 17:45Speaker 2: there was a chance Craig Missoo went up by four
- 17:48Speaker 2: in the second half, and we saw this against A
- 17:51Speaker 2: and M and Missouri I'm sorry, Florida and Tennessee. All
- 17:56Speaker 2: three games where it was close in the second half,
- 17:59Speaker 2: one possession games, and all of a sudden the game
- 18:02Speaker 2: was in the balance. Texas just either ran out of
- 18:04Speaker 2: gas or sort of settling or just started giving up
- 18:07Speaker 2: offensive rebounds and the other team was able to pull away.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I thought, for a second, Okay, here we go. This
- 18:13Speaker 2: is gonna end up just like Tennessee in A and M.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And it flipped, and we heard Klumas say it, we
- 18:18Speaker 2: heard our tea say it. The team grew up last night.
- 18:21Speaker 2: And it's a huge win, A huge win in a
- 18:24Speaker 2: huge credit Caden Shaddick the way he battled down low
- 18:27Speaker 2: and Tremon Mark didn't. He struggled to shoot the ball
- 18:29Speaker 2: well one to six, but defensively he played great and
- 18:34Speaker 2: he was hustling as well. Where we're starting to see
- 18:36Speaker 2: that out of these guys kind of grow together as
- 18:39Speaker 2: a team.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Because if you want to.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Win in this league, and you want to make it
- 18:42Speaker 2: BENSA a tournament team, you got to play like that
- 18:44Speaker 2: almost every night.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Crag.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I mean, seven of the first eight games in Conference
- 18:47Speaker 2: player coming against top twenty five teams. That's an insane
- 18:50Speaker 2: start to the season. So Texas a huge win last night.
- 18:53Speaker 2: They jumped to thirty three in the net ranking, and
- 18:56Speaker 2: I think the cogn to the coaches, they think seven
- 18:58Speaker 2: wins will get them in the tournament. Seven wins in conference,
- 19:00Speaker 2: but two and five right now, a tough one on
- 19:04Speaker 2: Saturday against A and M. You got Ole Miss, two
- 19:06Speaker 2: and four, two and four, you got Ole Miss coming
- 19:08Speaker 2: up next week on the road, an Ole Miss team.
- 19:11Speaker 1: It's very well coached under Chris Beard.
- 19:13Speaker 2: So to be able to pick the pick up that
- 19:14Speaker 2: win last night, I think that was a must win
- 19:16Speaker 2: game and Long Horns got it done.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yeah, beating a ranked opponent, quad one victory, all of
- 19:20Speaker 1: those kinds of things. They do have another shot at
- 19:23Speaker 1: the Gaggi's and a chance to build some more minimum
- 19:25Speaker 1: because that has escaped them this year. Come up with
- 19:29Speaker 1: a big win like the one at Oklahoma. Unfortunately, this
- 19:31Speaker 1: schedule had them traveling the face fifth ranked Florida on
- 19:34Speaker 1: the road and they lose to Florida, a team which
- 19:37Speaker 1: by the way, lost at holding the Missouri Florida did.
- 19:40Speaker 1: But the long Horns are able to beat Missouri at home,
- 19:42Speaker 1: a ranked opponent, and to get a quad one win.
- 19:46Speaker 1: So a chance to build on that with A and
- 19:48Speaker 1: M coming in on Saturday afternoon, that's a one thirty
- 19:50Speaker 1: tip off, one o'clock pre game start time here on
- 19:53Speaker 1: the Zone. They'll have that before they go to Oxford
- 19:56Speaker 1: to take on Ole Miss. So yeah, there's the opportunities
- 20:00Speaker 1: there if they can continue to try to build on that.
- 20:03Speaker 1: All right, coming up next, we'll move on to Inconceivable.
- 20:06Speaker 1: We have some inconceivable and we will talk more about
- 20:09Speaker 1: this Texas victory and any questions or comments you have
- 20:11Speaker 1: on that, you can hit us on the text line
- 20:13Speaker 1: for that or on the you know, on the talk
- 20:16Speaker 1: back feature you can do that as well. So we'll
- 20:19Speaker 1: get to those. We've got pro football to get to.
- 20:21Speaker 1: And yeah, some closing thoughts on the college football season
- 20:24Speaker 1: now that that game is in the books. Cam and
- 20:26Speaker 1: I were both on a plane coming back from Newark,
- 20:29Speaker 1: New Jersey on Monday night when that game was being
- 20:32Speaker 1: decided in favor of Ohio State over Notre Dame. But
- 20:34Speaker 1: we'll talk about all of those things and more. We'll
- 20:37Speaker 1: continue here on The Craigway Show on AM thirteen under
- 20:40Speaker 1: the Zone. Craigway alongside the producer Cam Parker, glad to
- 20:43Speaker 1: have you with us here on this Wednesday afternoon, weather
- 20:46Speaker 1: warming up a little bit kind of nasty, obviously. Would
- 20:52Speaker 1: you like to tell people about our arrival back in
- 20:54Speaker 1: Austin late Monday night, not that they would care, but
- 20:57Speaker 1: just you know, with a different, a different on how
- 21:01Speaker 1: the weather placed in all of this, you know.
- 21:03Speaker 2: And Sunday we landed in Newark about one pm Eastern time,
- 21:08Speaker 2: that's right in New Jersey. And I had texts from
- 21:11Speaker 2: from friends who were in New Jersey who I was
- 21:13Speaker 2: going to meet up with, saying, you still coming. We
- 21:16Speaker 2: got a winter storm. It's going to be an omen
- 21:18Speaker 2: of mine, be a blizzard. But yeah, flight's still good,
- 21:21Speaker 2: So we're good. And you know, we landed and the
- 21:23Speaker 2: flurries were coming, and then we got about what five inches,
- 21:26Speaker 2: and we drove We drove through it on the way
- 21:28Speaker 2: to the team dinner and on the way back.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It's kind of inside. Yeah, you know, I had a
- 21:33Speaker 1: lot of people I posted a picture of that, folks like,
- 21:36Speaker 1: oh my gosh. You know, it was like what you
- 21:38Speaker 1: don't understand is what a lot of people didn't understand, uh,
- 21:43Speaker 1: was how up there they're equipped to handle that deal. Yes,
- 21:48Speaker 1: they have snowplows out stuff like, but they had human
- 21:51Speaker 1: beings out on the street working for the city whatever,
- 21:54Speaker 1: shoveling snow out those those roads. You could almost eat
- 21:57Speaker 1: off of them even in it with five inches of
- 21:59Speaker 1: snow falling.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I don't know, eating part by very clear at the
- 22:04Speaker 2: see that. Yeah, they're prepared for that type of stuff,
- 22:06Speaker 2: whereas you know Texas, eh, five inches, it would probably
- 22:10Speaker 2: shut down the state for like a month, but you know,
- 22:13Speaker 2: for them, that's nothing like a drizzle rainfall. So yeah,
- 22:17Speaker 2: we got back what Monday night about one am, one
- 22:20Speaker 2: thirty am, I think close to that, and of course
- 22:24Speaker 2: the snow was falling, so you know, I landed. It's
- 22:25Speaker 2: twenty eight degrees outside and it's like, man, I thought
- 22:28Speaker 2: we left New York, but we got home Roland. I
- 22:33Speaker 2: don't know what day it is, Craig, I don't know
- 22:34Speaker 2: what time zone I'm in, but it's it's been a
- 22:36Speaker 2: fun week.
- 22:37Speaker 1: You know. We had some wins, had some losses.
- 22:39Speaker 2: We saw Texas Woman's take down a very good Maryland
- 22:43Speaker 2: team by thirty eight points, you know, out their second
- 22:45Speaker 2: win by thirty points or more against a top twenty
- 22:48Speaker 2: five team, which is pretty impressive.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Now, of course there's some masteris.
- 22:53Speaker 2: You know, Alabama didn't have Sarah Ashley Barker all SEC
- 22:56Speaker 2: and Maryland lost Shyenne Sellars, the Big Ten player of
- 22:59Speaker 2: the week in the second quarter. But still there are
- 23:01Speaker 2: two teams that are really good, you know, losing a
- 23:04Speaker 2: player or not. Every team's got injuries on the men's side.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Well, and by the way, Texas already at a huge
- 23:10Speaker 1: league when Sellers went yeah that injury.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Still felt like Texas, just with a size advantage, was
- 23:16Speaker 2: gonna win that game on the men's side, Craig, I
- 23:18Speaker 2: think that we're seeing the schedule part of it play
- 23:22Speaker 2: a factor. And you know, I think Texas fans, you know,
- 23:24Speaker 2: how do you lose to Florida by twenty points? You know, like, ah,
- 23:27Speaker 2: here's the thing. And I think Artist said this in
- 23:29Speaker 2: this post game press conference yesterday. I think I saw
- 23:31Speaker 2: Eric Henry from two four seven right about it. We
- 23:34Speaker 2: played Oklahoma or Texas play Oklahoma last Wednesday nine pm.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Tip ridiculous but TESPN tribleheader. It's how at work. So
- 23:40Speaker 2: we got back at three in the morning, right, those
- 23:42Speaker 2: guys probably get back to their dorms three thirty four am,
- 23:45Speaker 2: wake up a little bit over. Twenty four hours later,
- 23:48Speaker 2: they're back at the airport. You fly to Florida, you
- 23:51Speaker 2: lose an hour, and then you play a Florida team
- 23:53Speaker 2: that's been at home all week. Right, I know they
- 23:56Speaker 2: lost the Missouri by one point, but they have been
- 23:57Speaker 2: home all week. You get in play a top ten
- 24:01Speaker 2: team and a team that I think is the second
- 24:03Speaker 2: best to you in the Southeastern Conference, and the second
- 24:06Speaker 2: half of that game, it was pretty.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Clear that Texas ran out of gas.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Now, you know, there's some things they need to work on,
- 24:12Speaker 2: right Still, obviously it's part of it, and traveling is
- 24:15Speaker 2: part of the schedule, but you kind of see it,
- 24:18Speaker 2: right you kind of. I mean, was it Iowa who
- 24:21Speaker 2: it was one of the ACC schools? Think maybe been
- 24:24Speaker 2: Stanford on their East coast trip and you know they
- 24:28Speaker 2: got blown out, blown out because you know, this west
- 24:31Speaker 2: coast east coast travel is a lot and it's taking
- 24:34Speaker 2: effect I think on the student athletes. The student part
- 24:37Speaker 2: for sure, but also I mean, all this travel, it's
- 24:41Speaker 2: tough on these guys. And when you have a school
- 24:43Speaker 2: that's been at home all week versus a school that's
- 24:45Speaker 2: been traveling all week, there is an advantage. And I
- 24:47Speaker 2: think we're going to see that, not just with Texas,
- 24:49Speaker 2: but also with a lot of other SEC schools. So
- 24:52Speaker 2: you know, I think we're going to see some Saturday
- 24:54Speaker 2: games where the scores there's gonna be a big blowout.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Right. We saw with Tennessee, right, they got destroyed by Florida.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I don't think tennis See is worse than Florida by
- 25:01Speaker 2: twenty plus points, but they caught him on the right week.
- 25:04Speaker 2: And we're gonna see that throughout the Southeastern schedule. You're
- 25:06Speaker 2: gonna see it with the ACC and in the Big Ten,
- 25:09Speaker 2: with how these schools are traveling. We're gonna see it
- 25:10Speaker 2: in the entire year, and we're gonna get the tournament
- 25:13Speaker 2: time and you're gonna be fill out your bracket and
- 25:15Speaker 2: you're gonna be wondering, how did this team lose by
- 25:18Speaker 2: twenty but then they beat this other team by twenty
- 25:20Speaker 2: It's like, well, look at the travel schedule that week.
- 25:22Speaker 1: So things that keep in play.
- 25:23Speaker 2: You know, we always heard about the NBA in the
- 25:25Speaker 2: back to backs, and for a while it was always
- 25:28Speaker 2: on Twitter. NBA Twitter people were making money off gambling
- 25:31Speaker 2: because they realized, Hey, a team that's playing on a
- 25:33Speaker 2: back to back on a West coast trip is probably
- 25:35Speaker 2: gonna get killed because their legs are gonna be tired.
- 25:37Speaker 2: And now the NBA's on a good job of scheduling
- 25:39Speaker 2: and there's limited amounts of back to back and there's
- 25:41Speaker 2: more rest days.
- 25:42Speaker 1: But for a while there.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Under the David Stern era when he was trying to
- 25:45Speaker 2: get as much basketball in as possible in a limited
- 25:48Speaker 2: amount of time, the travel caught up to the NBA
- 25:51Speaker 2: teams and NBA players, and not just the ones in
- 25:54Speaker 2: big cities like Houston or Atlanta where James Harden to
- 25:57Speaker 2: go to and go out club the night before.
- 25:59Speaker 1: West Coast, East coast. It plays a.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Factor, and I think it played a factory in Texas's
- 26:04Speaker 2: week this past week and they're lost to Florida and
- 26:06Speaker 2: we're going to see it down the road another school.
- 26:08Speaker 2: So just a thing to keep in mind of a
- 26:11Speaker 2: good bounce back win for a Texas team that you know,
- 26:13Speaker 2: by the way, had went forty eight hours home forty
- 26:17Speaker 2: and they got back late Saturday night about ten eleven pm. Probably,
- 26:20Speaker 2: so a quick turnaround for them.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And maybe, just maybe they may be starting to get
- 26:27Speaker 1: a break with the schedule a little bit, because after
- 26:30Speaker 1: going Saturday Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday Tuesday, with a lot
- 26:33Speaker 1: of those quick turnarounds, road follow by home, follow by road,
- 26:37Speaker 1: follow by road again, those things, they are now going
- 26:43Speaker 1: into a period of the next three weeks where they
- 26:45Speaker 1: will go Saturday Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday Saturday before their next
- 26:52Speaker 1: Tuesday game, which will be a home game against a
- 26:54Speaker 1: really good Alabama team. But really they get that extra
- 26:57Speaker 1: day the Saturday to Wednesday. That helps. Meanwhile, on Saturday
- 27:03Speaker 1: at home, they'll play Texas A and M. Now the
- 27:06Speaker 1: Aggies have only to bust over on Friday night or
- 27:09Speaker 1: Friday afternoon to Friday evening. But they're going to be
- 27:13Speaker 1: coming off a game in Oxford tonight at sixteenth ranked
- 27:17Speaker 1: Old Miss, which by the way, is where the long
- 27:18Speaker 1: wrns will be Next Wednesday is at sixteenth ranked Old Miss.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Chris Beard's team Miss fifteen and three. They come off
- 27:25Speaker 1: an overtime loss at a good Mississippi State team, and
- 27:29Speaker 1: so they host Texas A and M tonight. The Aggies
- 27:32Speaker 1: are fourteen and four, they're three and two in the SEC,
- 27:35Speaker 1: and Ole Miss is fifteen and three and they're four
- 27:37Speaker 1: and one in the SEC. So that's going to be
- 27:40Speaker 1: interesting to see how all of that goes down.
- 27:43Speaker 2: They that schedule, Craig A and M. Was it now
- 27:45Speaker 2: going to be three straight games? Begats the top twenty
- 27:47Speaker 2: five teams? Yeah, and possibly on a three game Losing
- 27:50Speaker 2: Street coming into Austin on Saturday.
- 27:52Speaker 1: True, so big game. It's always big obviously when it's
- 27:56Speaker 1: Texas against A and M. Cotton Holdings Lone Stars Showdown,
- 27:59Speaker 1: rival Re series matchup one o'clock airtime, one thirty tip
- 28:04Speaker 1: off here on thirteen under the Zone, which by the
- 28:06Speaker 1: way gets me to the text line clean up from
- 28:09Speaker 1: our number one, Ryan says, did you fix whatever is
- 28:14Speaker 1: wrong yet on the road games? Are you going to
- 28:16Speaker 1: be ninety eight one Saturday afternoon? Did I fix it?
- 28:20Speaker 1: Did I fix it? Ryan? I can't say as I
- 28:24Speaker 1: personally went out there and fixed those satellite dishes. I
- 28:27Speaker 1: did find out today, However, I did get an answer
- 28:31Speaker 1: on that. We had a conference call recapping the football
- 28:35Speaker 1: season I'm talking about next year with folks with lear
- 28:37Speaker 1: Field and with our Long Horn Radio Network crew, and
- 28:42Speaker 1: did find out it was a satellite power outage that
- 28:47Speaker 1: caused those problems early. They hoped they had that all
- 28:49Speaker 1: addressed and fixed. With regard to your second question, the
- 28:53Speaker 1: Saturday game will not be on ninety eight one because
- 28:56Speaker 1: that's a day game that the games that are on
- 28:58Speaker 1: ninety eight one are evening contest right after seven pm
- 29:02Speaker 1: seven pm.
- 29:03Speaker 2: On as long as it as long as it tips off,
- 29:06Speaker 2: I think before seven thirty were good.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, so so there there you go. So that's
- 29:13Speaker 1: that's the case with that last night scheme was on
- 29:15Speaker 1: ninety eight one, yep, yep. When I was talking about
- 29:19Speaker 1: the giant bug, that that Darth Vader bug off the
- 29:22Speaker 1: coast of Vietnam, somebody said, that story reminds me of
- 29:26Speaker 1: the movie Tom Horn. Steve McQueen staring at a lobster
- 29:30Speaker 1: on his plate. What's the matter, Tom, I've never eaten
- 29:33Speaker 1: a bug that that big before. That's good, so he'll say, hey,
- 29:37Speaker 1: it tastes like chicken.
- 29:39Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Uh. Music trivia because this is a yacht rock Wednesday,
- 29:42Speaker 1: and we were playing Rosanna. So Rosanna Arquette is the
- 29:45Speaker 1: only person to have not one, but two number one
- 29:48Speaker 1: songs written about her Rosanna, which I think most everybody knew,
- 29:52Speaker 1: and if you didn't know, in fact, we'll come back
- 29:57Speaker 1: with it because it fits into yacht rock. It does
- 29:59Speaker 1: the great Peter Gabriel in your eyes. So there, we'll
- 30:05Speaker 1: bring it back on that when we get to the break,
- 30:07Speaker 1: which we're up at right now. So we said thank
- 30:11Speaker 1: you for returning to air and sparing us the exploits
- 30:13Speaker 1: of Doug Gottlieb and its hapless basketball team. Now we
- 30:17Speaker 1: didn't get a chance to hear, you know, Doug Gottlieb
- 30:19Speaker 1: is on Fox Sports Radio. And when this program isn't
- 30:22Speaker 1: on the air, when we have and we're going to
- 30:24Speaker 1: have a couple more situations like that due to travel
- 30:27Speaker 1: and or weather entanglements, it does happen. And so the
- 30:31Speaker 1: Doug Gottlieb Show is still happening. But there are many
- 30:34Speaker 1: of you who do not realize he's now the coach
- 30:36Speaker 1: of the Division one basketball team. He's the coach at
- 30:39Speaker 1: Green Bay. And would you say the Phoenix were or
- 30:42Speaker 1: is something like two and fifteen or something? They've lost
- 30:45Speaker 1: fifteen street games? Wow, I mean double check. Yeah, I
- 30:50Speaker 1: think it started. Actually, sorry, I think eighteen street games
- 30:53Speaker 1: eighteen straight two eighteen two and eighteen.
- 30:57Speaker 2: No, I'm sorry, So well, hold on exhibit games. They
- 31:01Speaker 2: So they've lost fifteen straight games. They started out two
- 31:05Speaker 2: and three. I've lost fifteenth streets.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Okay, they're two and eighteen for the season, but they've
- 31:09Speaker 1: lost fifteen in the row. Yes, and yet he's still
- 31:12Speaker 1: doing his radio show too. Maybe that's the issue. I
- 31:14Speaker 1: don't know. Uh so no. So anyway, that's that's the deal.
- 31:18Speaker 1: So we're here, we'll be here tomorrow, we'll be here Friday,
- 31:23Speaker 1: and we'll see how it is going forward. You know,
- 31:25Speaker 1: some of the travel dates for Cameron, because you know,
- 31:30Speaker 1: Cameron is a road engineer for a long worn men's
- 31:32Speaker 1: basketball broadcast, and so it takes both of us out
- 31:35Speaker 1: of a show on occasion. So that does happen on occasion.
- 31:40Speaker 2: But we will have We have not had Andrew Zimmele.
- 31:43Speaker 2: We haven't had the simple hours, but we will have
- 31:45Speaker 2: him next week. We'll be out I believe, Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 31:48Speaker 2: and Friday of next week traveling for Oxford and for
- 31:52Speaker 2: Baton Rouge. Right, but Andrew Zimmel the similar hours, similar hours, Yeah,
- 31:56Speaker 2: simile days with the six man as we call it.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Andrew Zimmel. I went off the bench. Yeah, there we go.
- 32:00Speaker 1: All right, Hey, coming up, We've got some more NFL
- 32:03Speaker 1: notes and college football to get to when we come
- 32:06Speaker 1: back here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Speaking of basketball, have you kept up with Greg Popovich lately?
- 32:17Speaker 2: I mean, so the update today about him and his return,
- 32:21Speaker 2: and they're still just you know, not being sure. I
- 32:23Speaker 2: mean he had a stroke, Greig, So yeah, you know,
- 32:26Speaker 2: first things first, take.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Care of yourself. RC Buford, the CEO, said that he
- 32:30Speaker 1: is getting better. He's been aggressive in his recovery from
- 32:33Speaker 1: the stroke. The Spurs are in Paris to play the
- 32:38Speaker 1: Pacers this week, a couple of games, of course, kind
- 32:41Speaker 1: of homecoming for Wimby. On that Youfford said, quote, all
- 32:46Speaker 1: I can share is he's attacking his rehab in a
- 32:48Speaker 1: way that you know Pop, You've observed him for years.
- 32:52Speaker 1: That is what he said today. The same resilience that
- 32:54Speaker 1: he's shown over the course of our career as a coach,
- 32:58Speaker 1: He's approaching his return and his rehab in an incredibly
- 33:01Speaker 1: unique way. The relationships that he's having our former players
- 33:04Speaker 1: and the care they're sharing with him is amazing, and
- 33:06Speaker 1: his improvement continues. Nobody knows when or even if Papovitch
- 33:12Speaker 1: will be back on the sideline, and Buford says there's
- 33:15Speaker 1: no timeline in place. He said, quote, I don't know
- 33:18Speaker 1: that we have any way to judge the clock. Predicting
- 33:21Speaker 1: what's to come is just to function where Pop's rehab goes.
- 33:25Speaker 1: So they're saying he's still he still calls, said Chris Paul.
- 33:29Speaker 1: There's still communication going on and things like that. So anyway,
- 33:33Speaker 1: that's an update there on Greg Popovich. I wanted to
- 33:37Speaker 1: get to college football briefly here. We didn't get a
- 33:42Speaker 1: chance to see most of the National Championship game between
- 33:48Speaker 1: Ohio State and Notre Dame, given that we were in
- 33:52Speaker 1: the air flying back from the door. We did see
- 33:54Speaker 1: what most of the the second quarter right, a good
- 33:57Speaker 1: chunk of the first half, and we saw when Ohio
- 33:59Speaker 1: State kind of took command of the game of those
- 34:01Speaker 1: two second quarter touchdowns, but didn't Notre Dame didn't make
- 34:04Speaker 1: a push late in the game. They got it back
- 34:06Speaker 1: to within eight and then before before Ohio State was
- 34:11Speaker 1: able to make the stop and get the field goal
- 34:13Speaker 1: to make it a two score game and put it
- 34:15Speaker 1: out of reach. So Final AP Poll comes out a
- 34:20Speaker 1: lot of conversation about this, although I don't think it
- 34:22Speaker 1: really matters that much. Ohio State number one, Notre Dame
- 34:27Speaker 1: number two, Oregon third, Texas fourth, Penn State fifth, first
- 34:32Speaker 1: time in AP history the three Big Ten schools have
- 34:35Speaker 1: been ranked in the top five of the final poll.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Then it finishes with Georgia, Arizona State, Boise State, Tennessee,
- 34:41Speaker 1: and Indiana to round out the top ten. Second ten
- 34:45Speaker 1: Ole miss is SMU at number twelve. It's the highest
- 34:48Speaker 1: finish they had since they were number eight in nineteen
- 34:50Speaker 1: eighty four, forty years ago pre death penalty. Then BYU Clemson,
- 34:56Speaker 1: Iowa State, Illinois, Alabama, Miami, South Carolina and Syracuse. The
- 35:00Speaker 1: final five in the pole Army Missouri, un L V.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Memphis and Colorado or there or the way is how
- 35:08Speaker 1: that finished up. So anyway, Longhorns finished number four in
- 35:11Speaker 1: the poll. I don't think it matters whether they're three
- 35:13Speaker 1: or four, really doesn't matter. Some folks that I should
- 35:15Speaker 1: Organ him been in organ only lost one game. The
- 35:17Speaker 1: common thread they both lost to Ohio State. It's a
- 35:21Speaker 1: common threat of Notre Dame. They all lost to Ohio
- 35:23Speaker 1: State there. I know some folks from grumbling about how
- 35:27Speaker 1: Texas could finish ahead of Georgia when Georgia beat the
- 35:29Speaker 1: long Worns twice. But you know, Georgia got knocked out
- 35:34Speaker 1: by Notre Dame in the quarterfinal or the semifinal, whereas
- 35:38Speaker 1: or in the quarterfinal, whereas Texas had the opportunity there
- 35:44Speaker 1: in to win that semifinal against Ohio State or at
- 35:50Speaker 1: least get it to overtime before it got away again.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I don't think it matters that much. It's more talking
- 35:56Speaker 1: points I think for fans probably, and they can put
- 35:59Speaker 1: in there it was a top five finish in the
- 36:01Speaker 1: polls and things like that, and number four, I think
- 36:04Speaker 1: the more significant number out of this for Texas. It's
- 36:07Speaker 1: something I mentioned last week. The Longhorns in the last
- 36:11Speaker 1: two years have gone twenty five and five and er
- 36:14Speaker 1: Sark and I saw and I don't remember. Maybe Billy
- 36:17Speaker 1: Luci had it with it its A and M Side,
- 36:18Speaker 1: I can't remember. But some other folks posted this as well,
- 36:22Speaker 1: and they were showing comparisons between Jimbo Fisher and Sark
- 36:28Speaker 1: after four years, and they were like real close, and
- 36:31Speaker 1: Jimbo had like better numbers on a couple of things.
- 36:35Speaker 1: What is glaringly left out of that is that those
- 36:39Speaker 1: the most impressive of those numbers for Jimbo were in
- 36:42Speaker 1: the first couple of years. It was already on the
- 36:44Speaker 1: downslide by year four. It's just the opposite with Sark
- 36:48Speaker 1: where it was started five and eight, then five and seven,
- 36:51Speaker 1: then eight and five, and then twelve and two and
- 36:55Speaker 1: thirteen and three after that. So they've gone twenty five
- 37:00Speaker 1: in five the last couple of years, and I think
- 37:01Speaker 1: that's the more significant thing, the upward tick, the upward trend,
- 37:06Speaker 1: not the overall tally of four years. Jimbo Fisher is
- 37:10Speaker 1: what a snake oil salesman in Steve Sarkisian. He won
- 37:15Speaker 1: a national title.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yeah, he did with a fantastic team, and that was
- 37:18Speaker 2: like a decade ago. I mean, how many college football
- 37:20Speaker 2: playoff berts the Jimo Fisher have zero? How many the
- 37:23Speaker 2: sarkav two? If you want to say, well, well they
- 37:25Speaker 2: expanded for okay, the top four format Sark one, Jimbo zero.
- 37:31Speaker 2: So that that that that makes me ill hearing people
- 37:36Speaker 2: compare Jimbo Fisher to Steve Sarkisian. Watch Jimbo's offenses the
- 37:40Speaker 2: last decade in watch Sarks and then you'll realize, Okay,
- 37:44Speaker 2: these are not the two same head coaches. Give them
- 37:46Speaker 2: credit Florida State, but I think he kind of just
- 37:48Speaker 2: struck gold there with Jamis Winston and the amount of
- 37:51Speaker 2: talent that team had on both sides of the ball.
- 37:54Speaker 2: But at A and M no night and day difference
- 37:56Speaker 2: between him and Steve Sarkisian. Oh, okay, I wanted to
- 38:02Speaker 2: get that note in before we went back over to
- 38:04Speaker 2: the NFL. Uh here and uh discuss what we're looking
- 38:09Speaker 2: at this weekend. We'll conference championship games two weeks ago,
- 38:16Speaker 2: I guess it was. I think it was two weeks ago.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Who knows, who knows?
- 38:22Speaker 1: It's been a blur the last Wednesday right on the air,
- 38:26Speaker 1: and what a decade like last Tuesday we did a
- 38:30Speaker 1: show or something like that.
- 38:32Speaker 2: No, because we were in Norman last Tuesday, last Monday.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Last Monday was the last time we were in the studio.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I'm sorry, folks, you know we're sorry.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Did we I'm trying to think, did we do a
- 38:43Speaker 1: show because we.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Left Tuesday for Norman? We were gone the entire week.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Because we got back Thursday. We didn't have a show Thursday,
- 38:50Speaker 2: because I believe rod Babers filled.
- 38:51Speaker 1: In for us. Oh that's right. I I well Monday,
- 38:54Speaker 1: I had. I had Long Worn Weekly on Thursday, and
- 38:58Speaker 1: we will have that tomorrow night. A couple of things
- 39:01Speaker 1: happening tomorrow. LongRun Weekly with Rodney Terry will come away
- 39:06Speaker 1: from Pluckers Live the West Campus location. Will have that
- 39:09Speaker 1: at six o'clock. Roger Wallace will step in for me
- 39:12Speaker 1: on the Texas women's game. They tip at seven at
- 39:17Speaker 1: Moody Center against seventeenth rank Tennessee. That should be a
- 39:19Speaker 1: good matchup on that really good. Yeah, But we will
- 39:24Speaker 1: have daily shows obviously today and then Tomorrow and Friday,
- 39:30Speaker 1: and then I will go to Oxford, Mississippi, to call
- 39:33Speaker 1: the Texas women's game against a good old Miss team
- 39:35Speaker 1: on Sunday afternoon, come back, and then we'll be in
- 39:39Speaker 1: studio on Monday before we leave Tuesday for Oxford for
- 39:45Speaker 1: the men's game. Correct, Yes, because we have the men's
- 39:48Speaker 1: game at home on Saturday against A and m then
- 39:51Speaker 1: off to Oxford. I'll go to call the women's game Sunday,
- 39:53Speaker 1: come back, We have a show Monday, then Tuesday, we
- 39:55Speaker 1: go to Oxford whether Tuesday Wednesday, and we come back
- 39:57Speaker 1: after that. When do we tip out against Ole Miss?
- 40:00Speaker 5: What?
- 40:01Speaker 1: Probably? Nah? I think it's the atm Yeah, it's another
- 40:07Speaker 1: eight of car Yeah, so there'll be some more of that.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Anyway, I would love if we get one of these
- 40:13Speaker 2: six pm tips. Please throw us a bone here.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it'd be nice. But they know what TV ratings
- 40:20Speaker 1: say about Texas. It's funny bring that up because a
- 40:27Speaker 1: little radio business for you on a conference call that
- 40:32Speaker 1: we had today or a teams meeting with folks from
- 40:37Speaker 1: lear Field and the network and everything. They pulled up
- 40:41Speaker 1: a graphic, a chart, a spreadsheet showing what listenership was
- 40:48Speaker 1: just online online, not here on thirteen hundred the zone,
- 40:54Speaker 1: not on not ey of one kvit FM, but just
- 40:57Speaker 1: online listeners meaning apps or listing online. Uh, to long
- 41:05Speaker 1: run football games. The numbers were astronomically big. Uh. Texas
- 41:12Speaker 1: was number uh one, two or three in about every category.
- 41:19Speaker 1: There were a couple of categories were like Arkansas and
- 41:21Speaker 1: West Virginia had some larger numbers. When you think about
- 41:25Speaker 1: they're no pro sports teams in those states, uh, you
- 41:28Speaker 1: know that kind of thing. No NBA teams, no NFL teams,
- 41:32Speaker 1: no NHL teams, no Major League Baseball teams, none of
- 41:35Speaker 1: those in those states. So obviously they're gonna they're gonna
- 41:38Speaker 1: have the Lion's chair of the listing audience on those
- 41:42Speaker 1: kinds of things anyway, But even on some categories, Texas
- 41:46Speaker 1: outpays some of those. So obviously there's a great deal
- 41:49Speaker 1: of interest in the Longhorns and the long run football program.
- 41:53Speaker 1: So uh, yeah, it was. It was pretty significant off
- 41:57Speaker 1: of that all right. Up next, we've got a couple
- 41:59Speaker 1: of NFL and will gather together and get to you
- 42:03Speaker 1: when we continue here on thirteen under the Zone. I
- 42:05Speaker 1: have to confess I am neither a fan of nor
- 42:15Speaker 1: nor a non fan of In other words, people who
- 42:19Speaker 1: root against this team all the time, I'm neither. When
- 42:22Speaker 1: it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs, I'm not fat.
- 42:26Speaker 1: I remember one of the first Super Bowls I remember
- 42:28Speaker 1: as little kid, was there upset of the Vikings in
- 42:30Speaker 1: Super Bowl four. That was really cool. And I remember
- 42:33Speaker 1: rooting for the Chiefs of that, and I always kind
- 42:34Speaker 1: of liked the Chiefs a little bit, but it was
- 42:37Speaker 1: never really a huge fan of theirs, or non fan
- 42:40Speaker 1: or whatever. And even as they got good and as
- 42:44Speaker 1: have come up with what three super Bowl titles in
- 42:47Speaker 1: the last five years, I guess I don't you know,
- 42:53Speaker 1: I didn't feel any antipathy toward them or to Patrick Mahomes.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I have a lot of respect for pasta trick Mahomes
- 43:01Speaker 1: game and the way he plays the game, and several
- 43:03Speaker 1: of the Chiefs. Now there's some guys that I don't
- 43:07Speaker 1: necessarily for that played for Kansas City, but they're guys
- 43:09Speaker 1: who did and there were Longhorns that played for the
- 43:13Speaker 1: Chiefs that I really admired, Guys that I've gotten to
- 43:16Speaker 1: know all through the years, like obviously Derek Johnson, Alex
- 43:20Speaker 1: okafor recently Jamal Charles, guys who played in Kansas City.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Always had great admiration and respect for the Hunt family
- 43:29Speaker 1: and what Lamar Hunt did in his founding of the
- 43:31Speaker 1: AFL in nineteen fifty nine and how it started, and
- 43:34Speaker 1: he started the franchise in Dallas as the Texans, and
- 43:37Speaker 1: they were even out drawing the Cowboys in their early
- 43:41Speaker 1: expansion years in the NFL. And the Texans actually won
- 43:44Speaker 1: the AFL title over the Houston Oilers in nineteen sixty
- 43:48Speaker 1: two and still the longest NFL game ever played to
- 43:51Speaker 1: this day, well into the second overtime and getting near
- 43:55Speaker 1: the end of the second overtime when they won it
- 43:57Speaker 1: on Tommy Brooker's twenty five yard field goal to win
- 44:00Speaker 1: twenty to seventeen. You know so, And then being the
- 44:08Speaker 1: guy who grasped the big picture of it, Lamar Hunt
- 44:13Speaker 1: knew that in order for the league to survive, he
- 44:18Speaker 1: had to have healthy franchises, and he didn't have They
- 44:21Speaker 1: didn't have healthy franchises. In every city. The Oakland Raiders
- 44:24Speaker 1: very nearly folded. The New York Titans went bankrupt before
- 44:28Speaker 1: Sunny Werblin bawmb out and transformed them into the Jets,
- 44:31Speaker 1: and that was another major chapter involved there. The Chargers
- 44:35Speaker 1: had to move from Los Angeles to San Diego and
- 44:37Speaker 1: eventually back to LA There were teams that were really struggling.
- 44:42Speaker 1: The Texans were doing okay at the gate. In fact,
- 44:46Speaker 1: they were out drawing the Cowboys. But in order for
- 44:50Speaker 1: the greater good of the American Football League, Lamar Hunt
- 44:54Speaker 1: moved the Dallas Texans to Kansas City and they became
- 44:56Speaker 1: the Chiefs of nineteen sixty three, fresh off winning the
- 45:00Speaker 1: AFL title, and then three years later they won the
- 45:03Speaker 1: AFL Championship, lost to the Packers in Super Bowl one,
- 45:06Speaker 1: and then three years after that they won Super Bowl four,
- 45:11Speaker 1: beating the heavily favored Minnesota Vikings. They didn't win another
- 45:14Speaker 1: Super Bowl until Mahomes and the Chiefs beat the forty
- 45:18Speaker 1: nine Ers the first time. And they've had this great
- 45:21Speaker 1: run Kansas City, and Kansas City is trying to become
- 45:25Speaker 1: the first team in NFL history to win three straight
- 45:29Speaker 1: Super Bowls. The Packers won three straight quote unquote NFL
- 45:33Speaker 1: titles in sixty five, sixty six, and sixty seven, but
- 45:36Speaker 1: they didn't start the Super Bowl until after the sixty
- 45:38Speaker 1: six season, so Leny only won two Super Bowls back
- 45:42Speaker 1: to back. The Dolphins won two Super Bowls back to back,
- 45:46Speaker 1: Super Bowl seven, Super Bowl eight. The Steelers won two
- 45:50Speaker 1: Super Bowls on back to back on two different occasions.
- 45:54Speaker 1: The Patriots, as we know, have done that as well.
- 45:57Speaker 1: But no team in the his tree of the NFL
- 46:00Speaker 1: has ever won three consecutive Super Bowls, and the Chiefs
- 46:03Speaker 1: are trying to get there now, and there are many
- 46:05Speaker 1: who feel that they're still kind of the odds on favorite.
- 46:09Speaker 1: Then there are those who feel that the reason that
- 46:12Speaker 1: they are the odds on favorite is because they are
- 46:14Speaker 1: the odds on favorite of the officials in the NFL.
- 46:19Speaker 1: I don't know about you, Cam, I don't even say that.
- 46:21Speaker 1: It's just social media is just avalanched after every Chief's
- 46:27Speaker 1: game with how much the NFL is in it with
- 46:31Speaker 1: the officials to ensure the fact that the Chiefs win
- 46:34Speaker 1: and Mahomes is protected and the hit that he took
- 46:38Speaker 1: the other day should not have been flagged by will
- 46:42Speaker 1: Anderson and Anderson said, what where we have to go
- 46:46Speaker 1: up against everybody? And he was talking about the officials
- 46:50Speaker 1: as well. So there's a lot of that that happens,
- 46:54Speaker 1: and I've seen memes of I think it was Bill
- 46:57Speaker 1: Vinovich the official wearing red white like Kansas City colors.
- 47:03Speaker 1: Uh and and and so there's a lot of frustration
- 47:06Speaker 1: out there from fans who feel that the Homes and
- 47:10Speaker 1: the Chiefs are getting favorable treatment by the officials.
- 47:13Speaker 2: It's the same thing we went through with Tom Brady
- 47:15Speaker 2: and the Patriots, where in the postseason, you know theyough
- 47:19Speaker 2: always find the way to win, and you know, of
- 47:21Speaker 2: course there's going to be some big penalties, and it's like, yeah,
- 47:24Speaker 2: the NFL just wants Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and
- 47:28Speaker 2: the Patriots to win. I remember that when they beat
- 47:30Speaker 2: Casey or Brady's last Super Bowl ring in New England.
- 47:35Speaker 2: You know, there was a huge offside penalty against d
- 47:40Speaker 2: I want to say D Gordon, but I don't think
- 47:42Speaker 2: that's his name on the defensive lineman. And I believe
- 47:44Speaker 2: there's a past interference called too both coming on like
- 47:46Speaker 2: third and fourth downs, I think, and a lot of
- 47:48Speaker 2: people thought, yeah, it's the NFL wants them to win.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Now it's the Chiefs turn. And it's because there when
- 47:54Speaker 2: you when a team gets so good and successful, thank you.
- 47:59Speaker 2: You know, everyone wants them to lose, right, I think
- 48:02Speaker 2: more people now are anti Mahomes and the Chiefs than
- 48:06Speaker 2: they were, you know, three years ago. And you know
- 48:09Speaker 2: that's that's part of being successful. You know, some people
- 48:11Speaker 2: want them to lose. And now it's kind of turned
- 48:14Speaker 2: into this. Now here's a stat for you. I heard
- 48:15Speaker 2: over the weekend. Okay, I think in the playoffs, in
- 48:19Speaker 2: this playoff run for the Kansas City Chiefs in the
- 48:22Speaker 2: fourth quarter, their opponents have been flagged for forty eight penalties.
- 48:27Speaker 2: Do you know how many even flags against the Kansas
- 48:28Speaker 2: City Chiefs. No, forty seven, So it's that close, that close,
- 48:33Speaker 2: but based off Twitter, it's forty eight to nothing. Yeah, right,
- 48:36Speaker 2: So for those of you who think the NFL is
- 48:39Speaker 2: in cahoots with the Chiefs, they've been called for one
- 48:42Speaker 2: less penalty than their opponents in the playoffs, all right,
- 48:45Speaker 2: one less penalty. They actually are one of the most
- 48:47Speaker 2: penalized teams in NFL. They're always they're an awful team
- 48:50Speaker 2: when it comes to penalties, but they just keep winning.
- 48:52Speaker 1: So people are like, yeah, they're just getting all the calls. Yeah.
- 48:56Speaker 1: So here's where I was going with this headline. Today.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes disagrees Chiefs are getting favorable calls. His quote was,
- 49:06Speaker 1: I don't feel that way. At the end of the day.
- 49:09Speaker 1: The referees are doing their best to call the game
- 49:11Speaker 1: as fair and proper as they possibly can, and all
- 49:13Speaker 1: you can do is go out there and play the
- 49:14Speaker 1: game that you love as hard as you can and
- 49:16Speaker 1: live with the results. I think that's what we preach
- 49:18Speaker 1: here in Kansas City. You get new referees every year
- 49:22Speaker 1: because he needs officials. There's only one referee at a
- 49:24Speaker 1: time on the field anyway. You get new referees every
- 49:26Speaker 1: year in new circumstances, and you can never really tell
- 49:29Speaker 1: because every play is different, and that's what makes the
- 49:31Speaker 1: NFL so special. I feel like I've just continued to
- 49:33Speaker 1: play the game and I just try to win and
- 49:35Speaker 1: whatever kind of happens happens. Will Anderson said, we knew
- 49:38Speaker 1: it was going to be us versus the refs going
- 49:40Speaker 1: into this game. I didn't see if he got fined
- 49:42Speaker 1: for that, but it doesn't matter. I know Chris Boyd
- 49:46Speaker 1: may or may not have the texanss goofy with him
- 49:49Speaker 1: going over there to the sidelline and the shoving the special
- 49:52Speaker 1: teams coach. But that's Chris Boyd. We saw him on
- 49:57Speaker 1: display in Austin anyway. So the Chiefs are saying, I
- 50:03Speaker 1: don't you know, it's not like that. It's not like that,
- 50:07Speaker 1: even though others are saying that it is like that.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I would just say this, Mahomes is a different and
- 50:15Speaker 1: yes special kind of quarterback. He can make some plays
- 50:19Speaker 1: that other quarterbacks just cannot make. I think Matthew Stafford's
- 50:26Speaker 1: done a fine job as the Rams quarterback for the
- 50:29Speaker 1: team I root for. And by the way it was reported,
- 50:33Speaker 1: think Kelly his wife, and he played those last last
- 50:37Speaker 1: game and a half with broken ribs in that game,
- 50:39Speaker 1: and I thought he played really well against the Eagles.
- 50:42Speaker 1: I walked away from that game as a Rams fan. Yeah,
- 50:47Speaker 1: disappointed that they couldn't win in it. But if you
- 50:50Speaker 1: told me before, hey, they're going to have it inside
- 50:52Speaker 1: the twenty yard line inside the final minute, needing only
- 50:56Speaker 1: a touchdown and extra point to win the game in
- 50:58Speaker 1: Philly in the snow, I would have said, give it
- 51:01Speaker 1: to me. I'll take that. I'll sign up for that
- 51:04Speaker 1: you know, eight days a week do that well. Anyway,
- 51:08Speaker 1: Stafford had a heck of a game, he had a
- 51:11Speaker 1: heck of a postseason. But he's not Patrick Mahomes. He
- 51:15Speaker 1: can't make the moves that Mahomes may, and the late
- 51:18Speaker 1: decisions that Mahomes can make with the football, whether to
- 51:20Speaker 1: keep or throw it. It's those late decisions that quite
- 51:23Speaker 1: often throw a defense out of balance and they wind
- 51:26Speaker 1: up getting called for a late hit, sometimes unfairly, and
- 51:30Speaker 1: I think it was unfairly in the Will in the
- 51:32Speaker 1: case of the Will and Ers something. But to say
- 51:34Speaker 1: that the officials are in it for the Chiefs, No,
- 51:39Speaker 1: I don't see that. And your number backs that up
- 51:41Speaker 1: what we were just talking about. All right, we'll be
- 51:43Speaker 1: back to wrap up our number two here. I'm thirteen
- 51:45Speaker 1: under the zone. Craig Way, the producer, Cameron Parker alongside
- 51:50Speaker 1: glad to have you with us. A couple of college
- 51:52Speaker 1: football notes and wanted to get to and then some
- 51:56Speaker 1: NFL notes as well. Okay, there were some rankings, final
- 52:05Speaker 1: rankings and early rankings and all the other kind of stuff,
- 52:08Speaker 1: because we do live in a world of rankings, folks.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Like the rankings. ESPN had its top one hundred college
- 52:18Speaker 1: football player rankings of the twenty four twenty five season,
- 52:25Speaker 1: starting all the way with number one hundred with Barrett Carter,
- 52:28Speaker 1: the Clemson linebacker, and then rolling on down the list.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Andrew mccouba checks in at number ninety three on the
- 52:40Speaker 1: top one hundred. Quinn Viewers ninety one. It's Quinn yours
- 52:45Speaker 1: and a lot of folks will go what ToJ Brooks
- 52:48Speaker 1: from Maynor? Number ninety The Texas Tech running back Jordan Tyson,
- 52:52Speaker 1: who we did not get to see, is Brooks the
- 52:54Speaker 1: all time leading rusher for Texas Tech. I think he is.
- 52:57Speaker 1: Let me see, Yeah he is? For him yep, and
- 53:01Speaker 1: the only power for running back the top one hundred
- 53:04Speaker 1: yards in every game he played this year. It's only
- 53:07Speaker 1: good enough to be number ninety.
- 53:09Speaker 2: And I believe they added another major product in the
- 53:11Speaker 2: transfer portal. Yeah, with a former USC running back cut
- 53:14Speaker 2: and Joiner. That is correct, all right?
- 53:18Speaker 1: So just skipping through a couple of other ones as
- 53:21Speaker 1: we moved down the list, like Blake Horvat, the Navy
- 53:25Speaker 1: quarterback was number eighty four. Trevion Henderson. Lorn fans are
- 53:29Speaker 1: familiar with Trevion Anderson, the catch and run seventy five
- 53:33Speaker 1: yards for the touchdown. In fact, that's the picture they're
- 53:35Speaker 1: showing up him. Number eighty three wasn't touched on that
- 53:38Speaker 1: play and was not touched on that play. Number eighty
- 53:41Speaker 1: three on the list a Mecca Buca from Ohio State,
- 53:46Speaker 1: number seventy eight. Riley Leonard, the Notre Dame quarterback.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Said those Twohow State players will not be playing in
- 53:52Speaker 2: Texas next year.
- 53:53Speaker 1: That is correct. Several of these players are not going
- 53:56Speaker 1: to be back. That This was for the twenty twenty
- 53:58Speaker 1: four season. Riley Leonard, the Notre Dame quarterback, was number
- 54:01Speaker 1: seventy six. Matthew Golden, who will be off to the NFL,
- 54:03Speaker 1: Number seventy four in the list. Just rolling on that.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Diego Pavia who will be back to play for Vanderbilt
- 54:14Speaker 1: because he got his legal He was able to get
- 54:17Speaker 1: his lawsuit correctly interpreted by the NCAA and so now
- 54:23Speaker 1: he's going to be back. He'll be back. He was
- 54:26Speaker 1: number sixty nine on the list. And these were the
- 54:30Speaker 1: top one hundred college football players of the year. Lathan Ramsen,
- 54:37Speaker 1: junior safety for Ohio State, number sixty. Sam Levitt, the
- 54:42Speaker 1: Arizona State freshman quarterback, retro freshman quarterback number fifty eight.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Will Howard, the Ohio State quarterback, number fifty seven on
- 54:51Speaker 1: this Danny Stutsman, the Oklahoma senior running back, number fifty four.
- 54:54Speaker 1: K club Nick Clemson quarterback from west Lake, number fifty
- 54:58Speaker 1: three on this list. The guy who I thought was
- 55:02Speaker 1: as good a wide receiver as there wasn't all of
- 55:04Speaker 1: college football this year. Xavier Verstrepo in Miami called sixty
- 55:08Speaker 1: nine passes for eleven under twenty seven yards and eleven
- 55:10Speaker 1: touchdowns finished number fifty ranked fiftieth. Next, let's see and
- 55:19Speaker 1: again I'm just rolling down the list here. Tate Ratledge,
- 55:23Speaker 1: the outstanding offensive lineman from Georgia's number forty on that list.
- 55:29Speaker 1: John Matteer, the Washington State quarterback who's transferring to Oklahoma,
- 55:33Speaker 1: number thirty eight on the list. Jackson Dart from Ole,
- 55:36Speaker 1: miss their quarterback number thirty six. JT. Chuamoloiw the Ohio
- 55:41Speaker 1: State defensive end number thirty five on the list. Donovan
- 55:45Speaker 1: Jackson the Ohio State offensive tackle, number thirty two. Anthony Hill,
- 55:51Speaker 1: a long one linebacker, number thirty on that Malachi Starks,
- 55:54Speaker 1: the Georgia safety, number twenty nine on the list. Curtis Schwart,
- 56:01Speaker 1: the Indiana quarterback, number twenty five on the list. Jack Sawyer,
- 56:04Speaker 1: yep long run. Fans known him as well the game
- 56:06Speaker 1: clinching touchdown, the sack, the scoop and score number twenty two.
- 56:11Speaker 1: Omarion Hampton, the running back for North Carolina number twenty one.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Shduor Sanders Kylorado quarterback number twenty on this list. Caleb Downs,
- 56:22Speaker 1: the Ohio State sophomore safety, number eighteen on the list,
- 56:27Speaker 1: Jaylen Walker, the Georgia linebacker number fifteen, Jade Barn number
- 56:31Speaker 1: fourteen out of the top one hundred. Off of that,
- 56:36Speaker 1: Mason Graham the Michigan junior defensive tackle number eleven, Dylan
- 56:41Speaker 1: Gabriel the Oregon quarterback number nine, Kelvin Banks number seven
- 56:46Speaker 1: out of the top one hundred, Tyler Warren the Penn
- 56:50Speaker 1: State tight end number six, Jeremiah Smith, the Ohio State
- 56:53Speaker 1: freshman wide receiver, number five, Cam Scataboo the Arizona State
- 56:57Speaker 1: running back number four, Cam Ward good Time to be
- 57:01Speaker 1: a Cam Cam number three Cam Ward the Miami quarterback.
- 57:05Speaker 1: Ashton genty from Boise State, number two and the number
- 57:09Speaker 1: one ranked player the Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter so
- 57:13Speaker 1: that was the top one hundred players as ranked by
- 57:20Speaker 1: ESPN okay, so there was that. Now on the heels
- 57:23Speaker 1: of that comes the way too early rankings for next year.
- 57:29Speaker 1: I've never been a big fan of these the way
- 57:32Speaker 1: too early thing, simply because it's just that it's way
- 57:35Speaker 1: too early because we don't know what guys might get hurt,
- 57:41Speaker 1: which guys might be in the portal, which guys might
- 57:44Speaker 1: come into a team from the portal, So they have
- 57:50Speaker 1: the way too early rankings. So just going in reverse
- 57:55Speaker 1: order off of these way too early rankings, number twenty
- 58:01Speaker 1: five is Navy, twenty four is Vanderbilt, twenty three is Michigan,
- 58:06Speaker 1: twenty two is Iowa State, Texas A and m is
- 58:08Speaker 1: number twenty one, SMU is twenty, Indiana nineteen, BYU eighteen, Ole,
- 58:15Speaker 1: miss seventeen, Florida is sixteen, Kansas State fifteen, Arizona State fourteen,
- 58:21Speaker 1: Illinois thirteen, Alabama twelve, Miami number eleven, Tennessee number ten,
- 58:27Speaker 1: South Carolina number nine, LSU number eight, Georgia number seven,
- 58:34Speaker 1: lost a lot off that team, Oregon number six, Clemson
- 58:39Speaker 1: number five, Notre Dame number four, Penn State number three,
- 58:44Speaker 1: Ohio State number two, yep, Texas. Wow. Really number one
- 58:51Speaker 1: in the way too early ranking.
- 58:53Speaker 2: So one versus two the start the twenty twenty five season. Man,
- 58:57Speaker 2: who would have thought that when that game is announced
- 59:01Speaker 2: a few years ago.
- 59:02Speaker 1: Yeah, this is NCAA dot COM's rankings, by the way,
- 59:05Speaker 1: that picked this. Stan Beckton, the writer for that and
- 59:09Speaker 1: his rite up on the Longhorns is quote. Texas has
- 59:13Speaker 1: something a lot of elite college football teams don't entering
- 59:16Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. A scene commodity a quarterback. It'll be
- 59:21Speaker 1: the Arch Manning era under center at Texas with longtime
- 59:24Speaker 1: starter Quin Viewers off to the NFL. Manning showed flashes
- 59:27Speaker 1: of greatness when he filled in in twenty twenty four,
- 59:30Speaker 1: winning two starts against Louisiana Monroe Mississippi State. He finished
- 59:33Speaker 1: with nine hundred and thirty nine passing yards, nine passing touchdowns,
- 59:36Speaker 1: and four rushing touchdowns. Manning won't be alone, as Texas
- 59:40Speaker 1: will have plenty of talent. Wide Receiver Ryan Wingo was
- 59:42Speaker 1: one of the top freshmen in his position, and the
- 59:45Speaker 1: running back room is deep with players like CJ. Baxter
- 59:47Speaker 1: schedule to return. Defensively, linebacker Anthony Hill is a top
- 59:50Speaker 1: five defender in the country and defensive end Colin Simmons
- 59:53Speaker 1: looks like the future twenty twenty seven number one overall
- 59:56Speaker 1: pick in his freshman season. Malik Muhammad on the outside
- 59:59Speaker 1: can hold his own two. So yeah, the way too
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: early thing as Texas number one for what that's worth.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: And again, I'm not a big fan of way too
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: early rankings ever, but from a Texas perspective, yeah, that's hopeful. Yeah,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I agree.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: I think, you know, way too early rankings are a
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: little bit ridiculous, especially since the transfer portal. You know,
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: we still have the spring cycle to go through, there's
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: still injuries. I mean, we we do not really know
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: how these teams will look. But I'll tell you what
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: when when Texas goes up to Columbus, Ohio State will
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: look a lot different than what we saw at the
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Cotton Bowl. No Will Howard, no Travon Henderson, likely quin
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Shawn Judkins will go to the NFL.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: No book cut. There will be Jeremiah Smith, I'll tell
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: you that. But Jack Sawyer, the two defensive linemen are gone,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: and basically their entire offensive line is gone. But also
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: on the Texas side, you could say the same thing, right,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: you're gonna have one offensive lineman back as a starter, sorry, Campbell,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: and you know Trevor Gooz being Colot's and have some experience,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: but you're not sorry not starting experience in the defensive line. Two.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: Obviously, Vernon has been brought in. Is will be gone,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Alfred Collins will be gone, but you know Trey Moore
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: will be back, Colin Simmons will be back, Anthony Barren
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Serell will be gone. Barren Scerell will be gone to Norton.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Basically all the defensive tackles will be gone except for
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Alex January. We've got some playing time, so it'll be
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: completely different teams. But I then you feel good about
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Texas going in the next season.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right. So there's some way too early stuff
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: to look at when we come back. I've got a
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: couple of NFL notes. And then we're gonna hear from
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Rodney Terry long worn men's basketball coach. Following that win
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: last night of the Missouri Tigers here on a Wednesday
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: afternoon on AM thirteen, out of the zone. Are you
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: familiar with this Tom you're serving by Karl? All right?
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: Do you know who it's about? Toothy Leary no, it's not.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: It's not it's not either. No, no, no, it's the
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: way that Carly Simon explained that it's it's kind of
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: an amalgam of several people. However, two people in in
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: specific come in for mention, and people clever guessers were
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: able to identify two of them. One of them was
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: David Geffen, the longtime record producer produced so many big,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: big name albums, produced John Lennon's final album before he
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: was killed, and several others as well. He was one
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: of the ones. And then the other one was the
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: actor Warren Batty, and interesting and when asked about it
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: because of her different relationships with different ones. When asked
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: about it, Carly Simon said, when asked about Warren Batty,
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: she said, well, definitely the third verse. She admitted to
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: that the third verse verse. The third verse starts off
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: with the lyrics, Well, I heard you flew your lyric
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: jet her you went to uh up to Saratoga and
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: your horse naturally won. That's at the Saratoga you know
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: where they have the travers stakes and your horse naturally won.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Then you flew your leared jet up to Nova Scotia
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: to see the total eclipse of the Sun. Where you're well,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: you're where you should be all the time, and when
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: you're not, you're with some underworld spy or the wife
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: of a close friend. So supposially that was about Warren
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Baty that that that third verse. Yeah, but it was
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: a big hit for Carly Simon, who and a little
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: one trivia there. Carly Simon grew up as a next
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: door neighbor to Jackie Robinson, the Jackie Robinson Yeah in
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: in uh in Connecticut, when when Jackie had I think
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: just retired and was a vice president for Chock Full
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: of Nuts Coffee, And she grew up next and she
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: said her dream if you if you watch the The
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: Ken Burns documentary on Jackie Robin, she said her dream
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: was to be the centerfielder of the Dodgers. I was
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: playing her dream, she said. I was a tomboy, I
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: wanted to play baseball. He kind of taught her out
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: to play baseball, and she wanted she wanted to be
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: the center fielder for the Dodgers, she said. Ultimately she
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: diverted off to other pursuits. But yeah, grew up as
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: the next door neighbor to Jackie Robinson at least when
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: she was in her very young age. All right, I
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: want to get to a couple of things here, the
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: NFL note that I wanted to point out, and this
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: was I meant to do this last hour. And then
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: I got, as my late mom used to say, sidetracked.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: I got sidetracked a little bit, and I started going
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: off in a different direction because people know, I'm, you know,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: full admission to this that I can go around the
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: garage to get to the barn with the best of
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: them to drag out a story. But in this case,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I just flat for God. But it was a couple
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: of weeks ago, Kim, when I saw the times had
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: already been established for the NFC Championship Game and the
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: AFC Championship Game. I haven't even looked at those. Well
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: it bothered me. Uh oh. It bothered me, uh oh,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: because at the and you know, whatever, the wisdom and
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: the luck of the NFL, this is going to work
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: out perfectly for them. Of the two games there that
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: are scheduled for this Sunday, which game would you say
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: should be the first game? The undercard?
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: So the primetime game would be the best game, right right,
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: So I would say the first game would be Philadelphia Washington.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Exactly at two o'clock and then at five point thirty
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: Chief spills. So that works out NFC and AFC. But
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: two weeks ago when they made that call, I'm sitting
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: there thinking, and I'm more about geography and clock and
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: things like that. I'm thinking, what if the Rams beat
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: the Eagles, which almost happened, and the Commanders beat the Lions,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: which did happen, and he had a game in LA
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: and then let's just say what if Kansas City gets
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: upset and Buffalo is host. Now you got a team
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: in the Eastern time zone and a team in the
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Pacific time zone, and you're gonna have the Eastern time
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: zone in a frigid environment kickoff at night when you've
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: got a West Coast indoor thing going off as the
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: early game. Well, the NFL, you win, you always do.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: They got what they wanted. I think that's the Mahomes effect.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: And yeah, if you want to argue they knew, Hey,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: they already know Mahome is going to be there, becauere
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: you know what I think it is.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: I think it's less Mahomes and it's more alternating CBS
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: Fox giving them the primetime windows on that deal. Fox
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: is going to have the Super Bowl, so CBS is
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: getting the primetime window on the Conference championship game. Now,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: as it turns out, makes more sense right Buffalo, Kansas City.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Now it'll be frigidly cold in case, but makes more
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: sense to have that game. And it'll be at five
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Central time when that kicks off, and the Eagles game
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: against the Commanders will kick off at three o'clock local
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: time of the East, it'll be three and six thirty.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Of course, it alreadys gets It gets dark in Philadelphia
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: in the winter about two forty in the afternoon. I mean,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: it's already practically dark when you do that. So anyway,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: so that was just something that was bugging me because
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: I let things like that bother me sometimes. But doesn't matter.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: It's working out the way it's supposed to.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: You're gonna miss most of the of the AFC Tunnle game, yep,
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: because he'll be well on a bus. And then do
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: you guys fly into I know people don't our listeners
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: probably don't care about travel schedule, but are you flying
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: into Memphis or two plow the where's the team flying?
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: The team is flying in and out of two Polo. Okay,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: So that's where the charter flight will be. Saturday night.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: When I'm going in commercial, I have to go into Memphis,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: then drive and pick up a rental car and drive.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: It's about a little over an hour drives for about
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: an hour ten minutes something like that. I'll be going
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: down the highway where Eddie Orrin has been pulled for
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: eating on several occasions, he's been.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: Pulled out off by his hair. He said he to
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: as his u given name, Yeah, Ralph, Ralph uh, he said.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: The officer thumped him on the head time after stopping
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: him for speeding, thumped him on the head. I'm gonna
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: tell you, Ralph, I'm gonna follow you to the state
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: line the Mississippi, and if you go one mile over,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: he said, you're gonna be so far into the jail
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: that Ralph's senior won't be able to bail you out.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: And he said, my hens, we're at ten and two
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: on the wheel. I was going fifty five miles an
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: hour all the way to the state state line, and
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: when I crossed the border, the cop turned around and
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: went back the other way. So I'll keep that in
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: mind as I drive down to Oxford. All right, that
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: that that'll be Sunday the Texas women at Ole miss
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: And yeah, I'll be flying back while that game's going on.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: That AFC Championship. Long Warn men's next action will be
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: on Saturday afternoon at home against Texas A and M.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: And they will be coming off. That will be big
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: win of the Missouri Tigers had some big moments, big stops.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: You know, as we mentioned some unheralded contributions from Cayden
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: Shedrick and Julian Larry. They were real big with what
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: they did. Larry guarding Caleb Grill, the outstanding three point
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: shooter from Missouri, Arthur Klumba with the double double and
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: the big put back Bucket Lake. That was all in
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: the conversation that I had after the game alongside Eddie
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Orn with head coach Rodney Terry visiting with long Oarts
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: head coach Rodney Terry. You we're just talking Arthur Kluma
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: about this, and Art was talking about having to dig
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: down deep and find some stuff. And you know, four
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: points is not an insurmountable deficit, but when shots are
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: tough to come by and you're down for forty five
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: forty one with eight minutes to go and missed eight
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: in a row. All of a sudden, you saw your
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: guys really dig down and find something extra, didn't.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: No great Dennis has done a great job with this team.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: I thought coming into this game, they were the hottest
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: team in the league, to be honest with you went
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: on the road and beat a really good Florida team,
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: and ready to handle those guys that they're at Florida's
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: home court. You know when you're coming in, these guys,
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: couple of games have been scored over fifty points and
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: a half, you know, so to hold him the twenty
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: seven at the half and hold.
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: In the fifty three for the game.
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: I thought I got played really, really hard on defense.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: And the thing I challenged them with the last couple
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: of days is, you know, you know, find a way,
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: but you have to make a way, and.
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: Then to play selfish, play.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: For each other, have each other's back, play together, and
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: just play hard.
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: That's Texas basketball.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: We talked about the fact and you and I have
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: talked about this several times about finding a way when
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: your shots are not falling, don't let it carry over
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: to your defense. And you guys didn't do that. Down
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: the stretch. He kept you in the ball gain.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: No we didn't.
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: I mean we had the de freezer last night and
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: we felt like we had a freeze to start the
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: game right, no one could make a shot. But I thought,
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: again we needed that was a really good defensive team
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: to those guys, they switch everything, they're in the passing lanes.
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: They make it really hard for you defensively. We knew
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: we were gonna have to try to engage to hit
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: the open guy. You weren't gonna get a lot of
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: great open looks. And when you got an open look,
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: you have to be shot ready to score the basketball.
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: Still need to get some points in the pay so
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: we need to put.
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: That ball in the side.
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: I thought the guy's executed a couple of times down
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: the stretch, especially against his own not settling and put
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: the ball in the paint. And we got to the
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: file line.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Let me ask you about some contributions. Arn't we know
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: what a monstrous came he at for you fourteen points,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: twelve boards. But also I thought Kayden really gave of himself,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: hit the deck, got to tie up key block shot
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: nine points, nine boards. And I thought Julian Larry really
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: gave you a lyft too with what he did for you.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: Defensively, Both of those guys did I'll tell you Cay
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: and played physical, you know, played some tough defensive force,
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: picked up some files early there in the first half.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: A wee had to send him a little bit columb
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: in the last two games. I mean, he's he needs
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: a day or two just to count for the recovery piece.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: I mean, he's nicked up all over the place. You know,
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: if you name it, he's got to he's got an
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: aching bone somewhere. So just trying to must them through
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: it was just big for him being able to do that.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: And then Larry came in and really got it for us.
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: Grills a really big threat out there from the perimeter.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: I thought he did a great job of go outing
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: to the premierive players over there.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: You wanted to go in and you talk about transition,
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: they get two buckets transition.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: You talk about they're shooting three half their shots for three,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: held four for twenty two. Great job on both those areas.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: No, absolutely, and they were keys to the game. Eddie
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: were plus eight on the glass. He's got been shooting
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: lights out from three that they had ten threes and
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: gets Arkansas the other night, and Grills in particular has
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: been shooting the ball really really well. He made one
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: tough one in the first half that was closer contested,
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: but good shooting team and a team that if they
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: can turn you over, they'll play really fast in transition
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: and make you pay. I thought we did a pretty
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: good job of taking care of the basketball. We had
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: ten turnovers. We always strive to have at least ten
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: or less to what we don't beat ourselves. There's gonna
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: be some basketball turnovers in there from time to time.
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: But I thought we played really really hard and protecting
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: the ball well.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: You brought up the facts about getting Arthur some rest.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: One thing I noticed about the schedule. It looks like
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: it turns a little bit before you in that you
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: get a little more time, a little more rest. In
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: that you've got a Saturday Wednesday. Saturday Wednesday, you get
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: that won the electrare day can make a difference case.
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: It's a huge us right now, I'll tell you what this.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: You know, the gun that we just came off of,
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: we had to go to hold you and play at
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: nine o'clock game, get home at three in the morning,
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: and go to bed at four. You know, you got
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: one day prep, you know, because you can't do anything
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: on Thursday, and then you got to get back on
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: the plane at noon and play a good Florida team.
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: At four, I thought our guy's battle. I thought we
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: ran out of gas a little.
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: Bit over there.
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: We cut into a two position game twice and couldn't
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: get over the hump. But we don't make any excuses.
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: We deal with what we deal with. We live where
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: our feet are.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: And I thought tonight we had great effort and attention
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: to detail.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Day off tomorrow.
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: Oh, they need a day we all needed the Ultimore.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: All right, congrat states.
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: That's great.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they all could use that day off and they
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: earned it obviously. With that, hart Fault went over the
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Missouri Tigers. Next action is Saturday afternoon against the Aggies
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: of Texas A and M and that Cotton Holdings Lone
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: Stars Showdown Rivalry Series matchup. It's a one thirty tip off.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: You can hear it on the Zone beginning at one
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: o'clock with our pregame coverage. And we do have long
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: worn weekly with Rodney Terry Tomorrow night at Pluckers the
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: West Campus, location six o'clock airtime to run from six
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: to seven, and we'll have a player join us out
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: there as well, so we see out there. It'll be
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: live here on his own tomorrow evening at six as
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: we bring in Longhorn Weekly with Rodney Terry from Pluckers.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: We've got some other basketball news to get to when
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: we continue here on thirteen under the Zone. I was
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: going to get to a couple of NBA questions for you,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: since you are such the NBA honk. By the way,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: if Clay Bennett turned out to be a big tool
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: and started screwing up the Oklahoma City Thunder, would you
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: disavow your fandom for the Thunder the way you have
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: the Cowboys. It's a loaded question. I know it's hypothetical.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: Thunder them went team in the Western Conference. There has
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: nothing to complain about, right, Okay, Now, if you want
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: to argue he refused to pay the luxury tax, and yeah,
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: he's the reason why James Harden was traded the Houston
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: for a bag of peanuts and Kevin Martin's corpse, then
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: sure you can you can point to that.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: But he's been he's been fine since. Because they've got
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: one appearance in the NBA Finals in their history, and.
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: The franchise have been around since two thousand and eight
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: and seven, Yeah, one finals appearance since then, the Cowboys
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: have zero and Oklahoma City has let's see Western Conference
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: Final appearance in twenty sixteen, twenty twelve, twenty eleven. So
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: what three times? Three times had been to the actually
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: sorry four times, right because oss of the Mavericks beat
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: the Spurs, loss of the Spurs, and then lost to
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: the Warriors in seven So four Western Conference Finals appearances
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: and Dallas Cowboys have how many since I was born
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: in zero?
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Okay, all right, and just just ask and just check
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: it on that and I don't think it would happen anyway,
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: but I was gonna ask him anyway. It was going
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: to bring up a couple of NBIA things, and then
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: I just see the story of his breaking news coming down.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: But to Miami heater planning to suspend Jimmy Butler again,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: this time for two games. He missed the team flight
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: today and he had plans to join the team tonight.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: Now they're saying, no, you just stay home. You weren't
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: there for the to get on the plane with everybody else.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: He had just come back Friday from a seven game
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: team suspension. What are you gonna do with him? I mean,
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: I know there's a lot of money involved as to
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: getting in the way of a trade. He wants out.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: He wants to be out. The Heat say, they have
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: to have fair market value for him. Somebody's going to
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: pick up a big chunk of change on that kind
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: of deal. But are are they going to just get
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: a bag of peanuts for him?
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: It's tough because they don't only have a lot of leverature.
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: It seems like Jimmy Butler only wants to play for
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: a team that's willing to give him a contract extension.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: Miami is not willing to do so. I think, you know,
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: pat Riley and Jimmy had that blow up in the
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: off season. He says, you know, we're not going to
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: give you an extension, and Jimmy Butler did not react
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: to that well, and that's why they're in the pickle
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: they are in now. I think they wanted to move
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: off of Jimmy Butler. They should have done a last season,
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: wanted to keep him, and it's not worked out.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Well.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: He's obviously he's not with the team. He's been suspended
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: for the second time this season, and if you're a
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: team that wants to trade for him now, unless there's
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: a team out there that is willing to trade for
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: him and give him a contract extension on the dot,
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: which you know may or may not be. There's only
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: a couple teams I can think of that would be
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: interested in signing Jimmy Butler long term. Maybe the Grizzlies,
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: maybe the Suns, maybe the Warriors, but also Craig. It's
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: important to keep in mind now with this new CBA,
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: the way the first Apron works and the second Apron works,
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: trading for superstars is not easy anymore. I think we're
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: what we're gonna see in these trade deadlines, kind of
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: like last season where you know, the big trade move
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: was when okay See traded for Gordon Hayward and I
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: think the Nick traded for Bogdanovitch.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: We're gonna see that a lot. We're not going to
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: see these superstars, Karl Anthony Towns.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: That was an off season though. That was that was
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: you're saying, yeah before the trade deadline.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: And by the way, I think it's impressive your use
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: of the word term apron. Yeah, I'm still not sure
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: what that entirely means.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: I just know that if you're in the second apron,
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: it's not good for the first apron the first for
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: the second yea dead. But imagine if the first cut
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: of the rough is like Bethpage Black. So I'm not
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: sure what either sides are going to do here. If
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Butler does get traded, it's it's not You're not going
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: to get a big haul for it. But at this point,
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: if you're Miami, I would just want to get rid
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: of him. But also, you know, if you finish out
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: this season, you let them walk, You're not going to
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: get anything in return. There's no way they can repair
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: the situation. So you know it basically, you know, what
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: do you Is it worth him just getting rid of
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: him now? In like, you know, would you do it
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: for Marcus Smart? You know, I think Marcus smartest better
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: than just letting him walk. But yeah, Miami, it's one
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: of the few mistakes I think we've seen pat Rally
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: make with this. And I thought, I think pat Raley
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: kind of thought he could have toughen Jimmy Butler up.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: He thought that, Okay, the hard love would work on
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: Jimmy Butler, And it's not it's not and everywhere Jimmy's gone.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: I know he's taking Miami to two NBA finals, but
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: you know they weren't really close in those finals. They
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: got watched against the Lakers in the bubble, and you know,
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: that's a weird circumstance with the pandemic and the bubble,
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: and then against the Nuggets, Butler played awful in the finals.
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: Now since then, you know, he's been nicked up.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: You know, he hasn't played well in the playoffs since then,
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: and I don't see the point in keeping him around.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: But it's a situation that Miami probably could avoid it
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: by just dealing him last last summer. They did not,
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: and now they're stuck with the repercustoms.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: Bad news for the Mavericks. Looks like Derekliveley's going to
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: miss two to three months. Yeah, he was listed questionable
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: for the night's game against the Tea Wolves. I saw
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: that ankle injury suffered. I was watching the other night,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: and it looked like it was just a sprain or something,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: and he'd been listened to question of them and then
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: they had further testing the day. It's a fracture, a
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: stress fracture in the right ankle. He's going to be
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: reevaluated in four weeks. This guy was averaging nine points,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: eight boards, three assists, two blocks, shot seventy percent from
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: the floor, you know, and he was he was really
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: big for them, and they run to the finals. Yeah,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: he's a huge player.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: Last year, he was a big reason why they beat
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: Okay See in the semi finals without him him.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: Being out now and he got Luca being out.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: You know, it's like, you know, I still like the
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: Mavericks a lot.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: He did him the four to be healthy. You just
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: want them to be healthy.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: And you're starting to get a little bit anxious here
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: because Luca's not coming back to what the All Star break.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: They say they're going to reevalue him and reevaluate him
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: in the coming days. No firm timetable.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: Set, yes, because right now Dallas is in the playing
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: spot right and so you keep dropping these games. You mentioned,
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: what's their record, another three of the twenty.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: They've lost ten of fourteen since Luca's been out there
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: twenty three and twenty and that was that strain left calf.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: And I've had this conversation where our brothers like, he's overweight,
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: he's not playing well. I said, no, he's got cankles.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: He doesn't if you look at if you look at Luca,
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: he doesn't really have true calves and true ankles. He
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: has cankles. One just goes right into the other. So
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: you know that's it's it's hard, and that's why he's
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: had so many injuries throughout that his calves are different
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: and he'd actually lost weight coming into the season.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: And I think Dallas will be fine. I think there's
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: if right now the playoffs started and if they were healthy,
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: if Luca and Derek Lively were healthy, I would say
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: that Mavericks and they just got Kyrie back, are the
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: second team they'll beat in the Western Conference behind Oka See.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: But you know, if they keep on this trend losing,
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: you know, they're twelve and a half back from the
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: one seed, a game out of the six seeds, so
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: they're in the play in right now, but five games
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: back from the two seats. So now you're looking at
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: a spot depending on how much they can can make up,
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: and you're gonna be playing on the road in the
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: first two rounds of the playoffs. Now, I know they
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: you know, they were able to beat okay See without
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: home court advantage and still make it to the NBA Finals.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: But you know that could play a role because the
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: playoffs are going to be tough, especially with Houston or Memphis,
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: are possibly Denver lurking in that first round. I mean
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: right now at the playoffs started, they're playing at Houston,
