- 0:08every Monday through Thursday. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner,
- 0:12the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:17Welcome back to Mini Scroll, everyone.
- 0:18Happy Monday. Happy June.
- 0:21How is it June? I know everybody says that when,
- 0:24you know, we get halfway through the year and we're like, what
- 0:26the hell. But like, for real, what the
- 0:28hell? This year has been so intense,
- 0:31and it's been a good year, but it's been a really big, intense
- 0:35year. I can't believe it's halfway
- 0:37over. That's like, unwell.
- 0:39Anyways, let's just get into the stories for today.
- 0:41There wasn't a ton that happened over the weekend, but it was
- 0:46Miami Swim Week and there was a little bit of tea that came out
- 0:50of that. So Alex Earl made her Swim week
- 0:53debut for Sports Illustrated as their first ever digital cover
- 0:57star. Tick Tock.
- 0:59Get ready with me Queen Alex Earle had a big weekend with
- 1:02Sports Illustrated. First, the 23 year old Tick
- 1:05Tocker was announced as the cover star for the magazine's
- 1:07first ever digital version of their iconic swimsuit issue.
- 1:12Beginning this summer, Sports Illustrated, which has been in
- 1:14publication for 60 years, 60 Wild will be launching Quote
- 1:20one-of-a-kind digital issues timed to major moments in
- 1:23entertainment and culture, revolutionizing the way fans
- 1:26engage with their favorite swimsuit content, according to
- 1:29the press release. In addition to this milestone,
- 1:31Alex made her runway debut for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit at
- 1:34Miami Swim Week this weekend. Alex opened the show and then
- 1:39she also walked the runway with her sisters.
- 1:42So she has a sister that is just a couple years younger than her,
- 1:45Ashton, and she has two younger sisters.
- 1:48I think they're like half sisters and their children.
- 1:52So this was a very big controversy on Reddit, on
- 1:58TikTok, among the fandom, the fact that, you know, her parents
- 2:02allowed this, that Alex was supportive of this and that
- 2:05Sports Illustrated would be OK with children in bathing suits
- 2:10walking in Swim week. I see.
- 2:12From the brand's perspective, I suppose if they do sell
- 2:15children's swimsuits, it's like, yeah, this is swim Week.
- 2:18This is, you know, essentially like our Fashion Week of where
- 2:21we show off our new styles. If we make kids clothing or kids
- 2:25swimsuits, like they're going to walk the runway.
- 2:28On the other hand, the whole idea of Sports Illustrated is
- 2:32like a sexy magazine, right? It's it's kind of like a softer
- 2:36version of like Playboy or something like that.
- 2:39It has a very specific brand identity.
- 2:42So allowing like from her parents perspective and Alex
- 2:46like being supportive of these young children walking in that
- 2:49show, it's like, would you be OK with children in, you know,
- 2:52lingerie at a Playboy show? Probably not.
- 2:56So I think that's where people are like, first of all, the
- 3:00brand identity is very different than kids walking in a runway
- 3:04show for, I don't know, like some other designers like kids
- 3:06line at, you know, Paris Fashion Week or something like that.
- 3:09And you know, Alex is a very high profile figure and you guys
- 3:14know how I feel about kids being on the Internet in general.
- 3:17I think they're not just these kind of two random kids that are
- 3:22modeling swimsuits. This imagery and this video of
- 3:25Alex is going to get shared everywhere.
- 3:28This is going to escape, you know, the fashion spaces, quote
- 3:32UN quote, that these images might have kind of stayed in if
- 3:34it was Paris Fashion Week or just some random designer.
- 3:37It's going to be shared widely all over TikTok and all over
- 3:40these different mediums where men, you know, older people will
- 3:44be able to see these videos and these images.
- 3:47From my perspective, I find this inappropriate.
- 3:50I did a whole episode, you guys would know a few months ago on
- 3:53children online and just the stuff that I found out from
- 3:58researching that, that things that I didn't even feel
- 4:01comfortable putting in the episode.
- 4:03It's just no, I understand the need for like child models, but
- 4:08I think it's the brand association with Swim Week and
- 4:13Sports Illustrated that makes it feel so icky and like hyper
- 4:17sexualizes the children. And of course, I've seen the
- 4:20counter argument, which I addressed in that bigger episode
- 4:23that I did a few months ago where it's like people are like,
- 4:24well, you're the one that's making it gross.
- 4:27Like people talking out about this are the ones that are like
- 4:30sexualizing the kids were being normal about it.
- 4:33That's not an excuse. That is not like a good thing to
- 4:36say. Like people talking out about
- 4:37Child Exploitation and child sexualization on the Internet is
- 4:41not them being predatory. So I'm not going to like accept
- 4:44any of those comments. If anybody comments anything
- 4:46like that underneath. That's just not what people are
- 4:48worried about here. They are not putting that on
- 4:51these kids on Alex's sisters. They are concerned about what
- 4:55people will do with this, these videos and these images and
- 4:58those are very valid concerns. All right.
- 5:00The other parts to this story, though, on a lighter note kind
- 5:04of is that Xandra Pole also walked in Miami Swim week for
- 5:09Sports Illustrated. So as we know, Xandra and Alex
- 5:12were friends at university. They were like in the same
- 5:15friend group. I think there was a big belief
- 5:17that they were like besties because they did record Tik Toks
- 5:20together a lot. But I think it's been pretty
- 5:23well documented that they were just kind of like party friends
- 5:25in the same party group. But it does seem like they had
- 5:28some type of falling out after their grad trip last year.
- 5:31And we never really got an answer to that.
- 5:33So people were like, Oh my God, what is going to happen when
- 5:36they are both having to be in such close quarters?
- 5:38Will they interact? So they are in a lot of like
- 5:41photos and videos in this like group pictures and like videos
- 5:45and stuff together. And there is a clip that's going
- 5:47viral on TikTok of them walking the runway like separately but
- 5:50like right beside each other. But I haven't seen any footage
- 5:54or photos of them interacting. I think this is confirming that
- 5:58something probably did happen, but I don't think we will ever
- 6:01get a true answer as to what happened.
- 6:05All right, And the last story that I have for you guys today
- 6:08is that Mister Beast has become the most subscribed to YouTube
- 6:13channel. Mr. Beast has finally become the
- 6:15most subscribed to YouTube channel, full stop.
- 6:18So he previously held this title for a channel by an individual.
- 6:23So he was not the most subscribed to YouTube channel
- 6:26like ever. It was just like by an
- 6:28individual creator. The Bollywood music label T
- 6:31Series notoriously had more subscribers than him.
- 6:34But yesterday Mr. Beast gained more than two million
- 6:37subscribers, which is a record for his channel in a single day.
- 6:41And that puts him at 268,000,000 subscribers which surpasses T
- 6:46Series. And if you guys know, Mr. Beast
- 6:48had this whole campaign going on like six years ago where he was
- 6:52promoting Pewdiepie's channel, trying to get people to
- 6:55subscribe to PewDiePie so that PewDiePie would surpass T
- 6:58series. I don't know.
- 6:59It was like a race to like who could get to 100 million
- 7:01subscribers first. And T series did end up winning.
- 7:05So now Mr. Beast is like, I've avenged PewDiePie by surpassing
- 7:09T series. So, you know, his influence and
- 7:11his power in this space just keeps growing.
- 7:13And he is now the most subscribed to YouTube channel
- 7:16ever. All right guys, well, that's it
- 7:19for mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 7:22Please remember to rate review and subscribe.
- 7:24It helps me so much. It helps me grow.
- 7:26And I will talk to you guys tomorrow.
- 7:28Bye.
