Firefighter fighters injured in blaze. Firefighters escaped serious injury at
9:29
ad Hollow. Five firefighters, including Manchester Fire Chief Jason Nolan,
9:37
were injured while battling a two story residential structure fire
9:41
Friday morning that presented some of the most dangerous conditions
9:46
firefighters can face. The Manchester Fire Department was dispatched to
9:52
the fire on June the fifth at ten forty eight
9:55
am on ad Hollow Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found the
10:01
resonance heavily involved with flames in exhibiting flashover conditions. Officials
10:08
estimated interior temperatures reached approximately thirteen hundred and seventy five
10:14
degrees fahrenheit as heavy smoke poured from multiple sides of
10:19
the structure. The home belonged to Ricky and Charlene Harris.
10:25
Firefighters immediately deployed multiple one in three court inch attack
10:31
lines and launched an aggressive interior attack to contain the
10:35
rapidly advancing fire. During the operation, five firefight fighters sustained
10:42
injuries and were treated at the scene by Clay EMS personnel.
10:48
The injuries included those resulting from a partial roof collapse,
10:53
respiratory distressed caused by extreme conditions, heat exhaustion, and one
10:59
fire fire fire who suffered minor injuries after falling from
11:04
the roof while conducting suppression efforts. Despite also being injured
11:11
during the incident, Manchester Fire Chief Jason Nolan praised the
11:16
efforts of the firefighters who responded. Quote this fire presented
11:22
extremely dangerous conditions from the moment our crews arrived unquote,
11:27
Nolan said, quote our firefighters put themselves in harm's way
11:34
to protect lives and property, and I couldn't be prouder
11:38
of the courage and dedication they showed. Thankfully, everyone went
11:44
home and that's what's most important. Unquote. Firefighters remained unseen
11:50
for several hours working to bring the blaze under control.
11:54
Officials said crews ultimately contained the fire to the attic
11:59
and lower levels of the residents, preventing it from spreading
12:03
further and protecting nearby properties. Nolan said the incident serves
12:09
as a reminder of the risk firefighters face every time
12:14
they respond to an emergency call. Quote. People often see
12:19
the flashing lights and fire trucks, but they don't always
12:26
see the dangers our firefighters face inside these structures unquote,
12:31
Nolan said, quote this incident could have ended much differently.
12:37
We're grateful that injuries were not severe and thankful for
12:41
the support we received from our neighboring departments and emergency
12:46
responders unquote. The Manchester Fire Department expressed appreciation to several
12:53
mutual aid agencies that assisted during the incident, including the
12:58
City of London Fire Department, Bush Fire Department, and Hacker
13:03
Fire Department. The department also thanked Clay Ems for providing
13:10
medical treatment to the injured firefighters, Clay County E nine
13:16
to one one for his assistance during the emergency response,
13:20
and Clay County Detention Center for providing a work crew
13:26
to help load equipment after the fire was extinguished. Because
13:31
the homeowner was not present at the residence when the
13:34
fire occurred, firefighters requested assistance from the Kentucky State Police
13:41
regarding a potential arson investigation. According to the department, no
13:47
state trooper responded while crews were on the scene. Next article.

18:05
Clay loses one starter from Final fourteen Manchester, Kentucky, fresh
18:12
off in appearance in the thirteenth Region Tournament semi finals.
18:16
The Clay County Lady Tiger Softball team returns almost everyone
18:21
next season. In what should be a spectacular upcoming season.
18:27
Clay County graduates starting center fielder Sidney Stewart, a familiar
18:34
presence in the outfield who will no doubt be missed.
18:38
Quote Sydney played her hardest every time she stepped on
18:43
the field, unquote, said coach Jason Rice. Quote her bright,
18:48
smile and effort on the field will be missed dearly unquote.
18:54
The future is extremely bright and Clay County for the
18:57
upcoming twenty twenty seventh season, as basically the entire lineup returns.
19:05
The Lady Tigers will be loaded to the brim with
19:08
a talented senior class featuring Madison Sizemore, Casey Lust, and
19:15
Olivia Hoskins. Sizemore finished the season batting three point fifteen
19:21
and provided strong play at third base. Lust, in her
19:26
first year as a Lady Tiger, batted two seventy five
19:31
with a home run in seventeen RBIs, and we'll look
19:35
to build on that next year. Hoskins, who batted three
19:39
eighty four with five home runs, will look to not
19:44
only continue a stellar career in the batter's box, but
19:49
also a strong career in the pitching circle. Coach Rice
19:54
has high expectations for the underclassmen, as well as Emmy
19:59
Reynolds headlines the junior class, followed by a plethora of
20:04
talented souphomores. Riley Chestnutt, Maddy Kraft, Holly Hacker, Ella Samples
20:12
and Anna Samples are all staples in the lineup who
20:16
will be expected to strike fear into Clay County opponents.
20:21
Anna Samples freshman season saw her beat two seventy five
20:26
with four home runs, while her sister Ella added three
20:30
home runs with a two to eighty seven average. It's
20:35
safe to say the Tiger lineup is in good hands.
20:39
Coach Rice also gets to see his talented eighth grader
20:44
turning freshman Annabelle Lovett continue her growth in the pitching circle.
20:50
Love It provided Clay County with another steady arm this season,
20:54
giving them one of the deepest pitching rosters in the
20:57
thirteenth region. Quote it's a benefit for sure, quote said Rice.
21:03
Quote we feel very confident in both Olivia and Annabelle,
21:07
and either are capable of going the distance against anyone. Unquote.
21:13
Clay County has the potential to return to the level
21:16
of success experienced by coach Jamie Gilbert's teams. If all
21:21
goes well, young talent everywhere, and all the best friends
21:26
in life, the sky is truly the limit for this team.
21:32
From the publisher's desk, Mark Hoskins, Perception isn't always reality.
21:40
One of the most interesting things I've learned over the
21:44
years is that two people can look at the exact
21:50
same situation and walk away with completely different opinions. Neither
21:56
person may be lying, neither person may be trying to
22:00
be dishonest. They simply saw things through different lenses. That's perception.
22:08
Perception shapes almost everything around us. It influences how we
22:12
view people, organizations, churches, businesses, politics, and even our own family.
22:20
It determines who we trust, who we support, and sometimes
22:24
who we avoid. The older I get, the more I
22:27
realize perception can be both powerful and dangerous. As a
22:32
newspaper publisher, I see it every day. Someone will read
22:36
a story and believe the newspaper in supporting one side.
22:40
Another person will read the same story and accuse us
22:44
of supporting the opposite side. The facts haven't changed, the
22:49
words haven't changed. The perception changes depending on who is
22:53
reading it. The same thing happens in local government. One
22:58
person sees progress while another sees wasteful spending. One person
23:03
sees necessary change while another sees abandoning tradition. Often both
23:10
individuals are looking at the exact same issue. Perception becomes
23:15
reality in their minds. Social media has only amplified the problem. Today,
23:22
people can form an opinion in seconds. They see a headline,
23:26
a photograph, or a short video clip and immediately decide
23:30
what happened. Many never take the time to learn the
23:34
full story. In some cases, they don't want the full
23:38
story because they've already decided what they believe. That's where
23:43
perception becomes dangerous. A rumor can travel across county before
23:48
the truth gets out of bed. We've all seen it happen.
23:53
Someone hears part of a story and fills in the
23:56
blanks themselves. Before long, a assumptions become facts in the
24:02
minds of some people. Reputations can be damaged, friendships can
24:06
be strained, communities can become divided. What I've learned is
24:15
that perception often says more than the person viewing something
24:21
than the thing being viewed. If someone is naturally skeptical,
24:27
they may see bad intentions everywhere. If someone is trusting,
24:31
they may overlook obvious problems. Our experiences, beliefs, and personal
24:37
personalities all influence how we interpret the world around us.
24:43
That's why I try to remind myself that there are
24:46
usually multiple sides to every issue. The truth is rarely
24:51
found at the extremes. It is often somewhere in the middle.
24:56
That doesn't mean facts don't matter. They absolutely do. In fact,
25:01
facts matter more than ever because perception can be so misleading.
25:07
Before forming an opinion, we should ask questions. We should
25:10
gather information. We should be willing to listen to viewpoints
25:14
that challenge our own. Most importantly, we should remember that
25:20
what we perceive isn't always reality. I've been wrong before,
25:25
you have too. The longer I live, the more I
25:28
understand that humility is more important because none of us
25:34
see the entire picture. Perception may shape our first impression,
25:39
but character is revealed over time. Truth eventually surfaces, facts
25:46
eventually matter, and when they do, we often discover things
25:51
weren't quite the way we first perceived them to be.
25:58
