Eric Weddle on the Utes top 15 game vs No. 14 Houston, GameDay a distraction for players (?), BYU's win over Notre Dame + more · ESPN 700 & 92.1 FM | Utah's #1 Sports Talk

Speaker 1: This is the Sean O'Connell Show, your home of the
0:07
Speaker 1: best inside of your Utes. Let's get back to OC
0:10
Speaker 1: from the Murdoch Chevrolet studio of ESPN 700 at 92.1 FM.
0:14
Speaker 1: Welcome to our number.
0:21
Speaker 2: Two of the Sean O'Connell Show. Welcome in the Utah
0:24
Speaker 2: football legend and the Super Bowl champion and the head
0:27
Speaker 2: coach of the 7-1 Rancho Bernardo Broncos, Eric Weddle. joins
0:33
Speaker 2: us once again. Hello, sir. How are you?
0:37
Speaker 3: Living the dream, baby. Living the dream. We got a
0:41
Speaker 3: big game Friday night. 7-1 playoff implications on the line.
0:46
Speaker 3: Maybe a home playoff game. We'll see how high we
0:49
Speaker 3: can go. We're playing one of the top teams in
0:52
Speaker 3: the state, Mission Hills. Had a big win last week.
0:56
Speaker 3: And then Saturday night, our Ute. versus the Houston. What
1:01
Speaker 3: are they? The cougars? Yes. Yeah. Those cougars, man.
1:06
Speaker 2: Speaker 0 1, you know, you know, it's crazy. I
1:12
Speaker 2: I'd be embarrassed. I didn't know this already. I'm 43
1:14
Speaker 2: years old, but we looked it up today or this week.
1:19
Speaker 2: Why the Houston teams are called cougars. Cause there's no
1:24
Speaker 2: mountains near Houston. There's no mountains in Houston. So how
1:26
Speaker 2: do they get mountain lions or whatever? First of all,
1:29
Speaker 2: there's no Cougars nearby, which is a dumb reason. Also,
1:36
Speaker 2: they were named in the 1920s, and the reason they
1:39
Speaker 2: got that name is because a coach, the former football
1:44
Speaker 2: coach from Washington State University, got a job at the
1:48
Speaker 2: University of Houston, and they didn't have team names. So
1:51
Speaker 2: he's just like, let's name them Cougars like my old school.
1:54
Speaker 2: Is that not the worst way to get a name
1:57
Speaker 2: you've ever heard in your life?
1:59
Speaker 3: They should disband that name and find a new one.
2:02
Speaker 2: They absolutely should.
2:04
Speaker 3: 100%. It's crazy.
2:05
Speaker 2: It's absolutely crazy.
2:06
Speaker 3: How embarrassing. All right.
2:09
Speaker 2: So we've been trying to figure out how to feel
2:11
Speaker 2: now for a few days about that win over Colorado,
2:14
Speaker 2: because ultimately it's a win, but man, was it ugly.
2:19
Speaker 2: What were your thoughts on Utah versus Colorado, where they
2:21
Speaker 2: did improve to 6-0?
2:24
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, obviously it wasn't how we finished. I
2:29
Speaker 3: think you give some credit to Colorado, right? Like, it's
2:34
Speaker 3: okay to be in the game and the other team
2:37
Speaker 3: executes at a higher level at points throughout that game.
2:40
Speaker 3: And like Coach Scali said, within the first 60 seconds
2:45
Speaker 3: of that postgame is we probably shouldn't have won the
2:49
Speaker 3: way we played at the end of that game. And
2:52
Speaker 3: the second half and just some– some of the things
2:54
Speaker 3: that crept in, you know, whether it's schematically or just execution.
3:00
Speaker 3: And I think, honestly, like, I think it's okay. It's
3:06
Speaker 3: better to learn in a win than it is in
3:08
Speaker 3: a loss. And especially you look over the history of
3:14
Speaker 3: Utah in the last, I don't know, maybe if you
3:16
Speaker 3: look back 10 years, and any time we have a
3:19
Speaker 3: home-ranked opponent coming in, we usually– played down a tad
3:25
Speaker 3: the week before. And that's human nature. You're still learning
3:29
Speaker 3: the dynamics of this team, the leadership and the professionalism.
3:33
Speaker 3: And as a coaching staff and coaches, pinpointing how we
3:37
Speaker 3: need to motivate and inspire and also tighten the screws
3:41
Speaker 3: on some things. So am I worried? No. They have
3:45
Speaker 3: to go play great, and they have to play top-notch
3:48
Speaker 3: football to beat this team because this team is dang
3:51
Speaker 3: good coming in.
3:53
Speaker 2: So we've talked a lot about pressure and the lack
3:56
Speaker 2: thereof for this Utah football team. And, you know, you're
4:00
Speaker 2: a guy who played in the defensive backfield in this defense.
4:04
Speaker 2: And he played a lot of man coverage. And, you know,
4:07
Speaker 2: when you're not able to get to the quarterback... bad
4:10
Speaker 2: things can happen when you're in man, when you're not
4:12
Speaker 2: able to get to the quarterback, bad things can happen
4:14
Speaker 2: when you're in zone also, but it feels like, it
4:17
Speaker 2: feels like this is something that they've got a remedy.
4:20
Speaker 2: And I don't know if they've got the horses to
4:22
Speaker 2: remedy it. You can't change your defense halfway through a season.
4:26
Speaker 2: So Eric Weddle, genius, defensive mind, how do you solve
4:30
Speaker 2: this problem where you still get some pressure on quarterbacks,
4:33
Speaker 2: but you don't have to bring an extra body or
4:35
Speaker 2: two every single time.
4:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's, You know, I think how do I– you
4:49
Speaker 3: said it perfectly. We are who we are at our core.
4:53
Speaker 3: We have certain principles. We play certain techniques and coverages.
4:59
Speaker 3: And I think it's understanding leveraging angles, right, from a
5:05
Speaker 3: defensive back perspective. I think also from a coaching side perspective,
5:10
Speaker 3: situational football and call-wise that could help out the secondary
5:15
Speaker 3: and help out the defense. Basically, a two-score game, we're
5:21
Speaker 3: still playing press man. That's like a cardinal sin. I
5:26
Speaker 3: don't understand why in that situation we're still playing those
5:31
Speaker 3: type of coverages when you want the clock as our friend.
5:36
Speaker 3: The worst thing that could happen is if you score quick.
5:39
Speaker 3: And so I know that's being talked about, so it's
5:42
Speaker 3: not something that isn't. I just, you know, and I've
5:47
Speaker 3: talked about this, and defensively and just schematically being a
5:52
Speaker 3: little bit more of a two-shell type coverage defense at
5:56
Speaker 3: times would benefit us, not just for situations, but also
6:02
Speaker 3: alleviating the man-to-man at times when we're asking guys to
6:05
Speaker 3: play man-to-man every single play. And it's not every single play, right?
6:09
Speaker 3: But for the majority of the time you're playing man-to-man,
6:11
Speaker 3: you give breaks to guys that are always in those
6:15
Speaker 3: type of– it's now or never, right? This one play
6:19
Speaker 3: could be the difference. When you're playing man-to-man, that's what
6:21
Speaker 3: it feels like. And so any chance you can alleviate
6:25
Speaker 3: that stress for a player or two or a snap
6:28
Speaker 3: or a situation, it's big for the confidence of those players.
6:31
Speaker 3: So I think they'll coach it up. I'm not– too
6:37
Speaker 3: worried about it for the pressure and getting at the quarterback.
6:41
Speaker 3: You don't always have to have sacks to affect the quarterback,
6:44
Speaker 3: to affect the timing, but you have to make it,
6:47
Speaker 3: you have to get this quarterback off the spot. You
6:49
Speaker 3: got to hit them, even though you may not sack them,
6:52
Speaker 3: if you're hitting them and making them think about it
6:54
Speaker 3: and speeding up his timing, that is the secondary's best friend.
7:00
Speaker 2: Offensively, this Utah team was, for the first time, kind
7:04
Speaker 2: of bogged down in the red zone. And that's been uncharacteristic.
7:09
Speaker 2: They've been off to such a hot start this year.
7:10
Speaker 2: They're still six for six in, you know, six games
7:15
Speaker 2: and six opening drives have led to touchdowns, which is great.
7:18
Speaker 2: But they had three red zone trips against Colorado that
7:22
Speaker 2: resulted in two field goals and a turnover instead of touchdowns.
7:27
Speaker 2: which is uncharacteristic. When you watch that happen, when you
7:30
Speaker 2: see it, was that a fluke, you think? Was that
7:32
Speaker 2: something Colorado did that was super special? Is there any
7:36
Speaker 2: reason to believe they won't be able to get back
7:39
Speaker 2: to the old ways?
7:42
Speaker 3: I think it's twofold. Like, yeah, could the execution have
7:45
Speaker 3: been better? Yeah, could maybe the red zone plan be better? Obviously,
7:50
Speaker 3: we didn't execute and score. So as a coach, you're
7:54
Speaker 3: going to look, all right, well, what– Why wasn't the
7:58
Speaker 3: plan the way it was? What could I have done
8:00
Speaker 3: differently and maybe put our players in a better position, right?
8:04
Speaker 3: And then you've got to give credit to Colorado. Like,
8:06
Speaker 3: we talked about it. We didn't talk about it last
8:08
Speaker 3: week because I didn't come on, but everyone knew and
8:11
Speaker 3: the stats showed that Colorado had a really good defense.
8:15
Speaker 3: They had a really good front. They created negative plays,
8:18
Speaker 3: tons of TFLs, and you knew that it was going
8:22
Speaker 3: to be a good challenge for us, and it was, right? Like, we...
8:26
Speaker 3: We still put up enough points to win, right? Was
8:30
Speaker 3: it under our average? Yeah. Could it have been more easily? Yeah,
8:33
Speaker 3: it could have been. But, hey, tip your hat to
8:35
Speaker 3: your opponent sometimes. It's okay to do that while also
8:40
Speaker 3: understanding that we could have played better. So do I
8:42
Speaker 3: think– I don't think it's going to be a problem.
8:45
Speaker 3: I think when you look at Houston's defense, their run
8:49
Speaker 3: defense is– The run defense, is it good in their
8:55
Speaker 3: past defenses or is it flopped? I can't remember.
8:59
Speaker 2: Houston's run defense is good. Their past defense is bad.
9:03
Speaker 3: Okay. So neither is, I think, to the level of
9:08
Speaker 3: Colorado as a whole. So I think we just got
9:13
Speaker 3: to understand what we are and how you score in
9:16
Speaker 3: the red zone. It's creating new line of scrimmage, moving
9:20
Speaker 3: people off the ball. being sound in the run game
9:23
Speaker 3: and then having those, those plays drawn up for the
9:26
Speaker 3: low red and, and, and got to have a situations
9:29
Speaker 3: that we execute, which we've done all year. So they're
9:31
Speaker 3: going to, they're going to be fine. They're going to,
9:33
Speaker 3: I'm not, I'm not really worried about it. I'm more
9:36
Speaker 3: concerned with how we stop Houston's offense and that quarterback
9:41
Speaker 3: and that what they got going over there. Cause I
9:45
Speaker 3: think it could potentially get into a back and forth game.
9:48
Speaker 3: I'd rather not, but this is going to be a
9:50
Speaker 3: real test and really see if we're a championship playoff
9:55
Speaker 3: caliber team or if we're not.
9:57
Speaker 2: How much do you alter your defensive game plan? to
10:00
Speaker 2: accommodate for a player, especially when that player is the quarterback?
10:05
Speaker 2: Because it feels like Wegman, he's going to beat you
10:10
Speaker 2: with his arm. And if he doesn't beat you with
10:12
Speaker 2: his arm and you're great in coverage, but you're playing
10:15
Speaker 2: man and you're, you know, Your hand is in somebody's
10:18
Speaker 2: hip pocket and your eyes are on the coverage. He's
10:20
Speaker 2: just going to be like, oh, nobody's looking at me.
10:22
Speaker 2: I'm going to take off and run. So there's a
10:25
Speaker 2: lot of ways that he can hurt you. How much
10:27
Speaker 2: do you alter your game plan in order to accommodate
10:30
Speaker 2: just him? Because you can spy, you can do some
10:32
Speaker 2: other different things, but then you're getting out of what
10:35
Speaker 2: we just talked about. You're getting out of your defensive identity.
10:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's obviously a huge, huge challenge. And, like, listen,
10:45
Speaker 3: we play some top-notch quarterbacks. over the last decade. So
10:48
Speaker 3: this isn't, this isn't something that's new. We've had success
10:54
Speaker 3: and we've also have not had success. So looking at
10:58
Speaker 3: the history and how we fared in those games is
11:00
Speaker 3: something that I would revisit. And I'm sure they've looked
11:05
Speaker 3: at just as a schematical point of what has been good,
11:08
Speaker 3: what hasn't. Obviously the offenses are different, but when you're
11:11
Speaker 3: playing a really good quarterback with, talented guys on the perimeter,
11:16
Speaker 3: some things have worked, some things haven't. So really identifying that.
11:20
Speaker 3: And you've got to mix it up. And I'm a
11:25
Speaker 3: big proponent of disguising and two-shell coverage and not letting
11:30
Speaker 3: the quarterback know what you're in pre-snap. I've said that
11:36
Speaker 3: my whole career. I've said that on here. So that's
11:40
Speaker 3: nothing new. It's not like I'm getting after our Utah
11:44
Speaker 3: youth defense. Like that's not what I'm saying. Just that's
11:46
Speaker 3: who I am in my core. If I ever coached
11:48
Speaker 3: in college, that's what would be my defense, right? Or
11:51
Speaker 3: a head coach like that's just who I am. So
11:55
Speaker 3: you got to understand when pre-stab you see certain coverages,
11:59
Speaker 3: it's easy for a quarterback to get through the progression
12:01
Speaker 3: and identify where he wants to go with the concept.
12:04
Speaker 3: Does that make sense? So for a quarterback and what
12:09
Speaker 3: I would hopefully see on Friday night or Saturday night
12:12
Speaker 3: is is not showing that the pitcher go after the snap.
12:19
Speaker 2: Eric Weddle is our guest here on the Sean O'Connell show,
12:21
Speaker 2: talking all things, Utah football coming off of Colorado, when
12:24
Speaker 2: heading into this Houston matchup college game day, you've had
12:28
Speaker 2: some experience with college game day and they're back. So
12:35
Speaker 2: how do you make it not a distraction for the players?
12:41
Speaker 3: Honestly, I mean, it shouldn't be because you're not involved.
12:45
Speaker 3: You stick with your routine. You know they're there on campus,
12:49
Speaker 3: but you're not involved with it. So I think it's
12:53
Speaker 3: always just the excitement that eyes are on us, they're
12:57
Speaker 3: on our school, they're seeing what amazing university we are,
13:01
Speaker 3: the city of Salt Lake, the people. I think we
13:05
Speaker 3: recognize that. You recognize that as a player, but I
13:08
Speaker 3: never felt it was a distraction. It was more so like, hey,
13:11
Speaker 3: the whole country is going to be watching us. Let's
13:13
Speaker 3: go play great and show what we're all about. And
13:16
Speaker 3: sometimes that pressure or that distraction can hinder players or
13:21
Speaker 3: a team. But I think overall we've handled this moment
13:26
Speaker 3: pretty well, and I think it's a great opportunity to
13:31
Speaker 3: go be us. And I'm sure Coach Scali is saying
13:34
Speaker 3: the same thing. We don't need to be anybody but ourselves,
13:36
Speaker 3: and our best is good enough. And so let's go
13:39
Speaker 3: show the world what we're about.
13:43
Speaker 2: Biggest game of the college football season so far took
13:46
Speaker 2: place down in Provo last week and came down to
13:51
Speaker 2: the last play of the game that ultimately should not
13:53
Speaker 2: have been the last play of the game, according to
13:55
Speaker 2: the clock, which is crazy that twice this year, there's
14:00
Speaker 2: been a dispute over how many seconds are left, whether
14:02
Speaker 2: there's one or there's zero Western Michigan, Michigan, and now
14:05
Speaker 2: BYU Notre Dame. And I've asked everyone this question. The
14:10
Speaker 2: correct football outcome for the end-of-game scenario in Notre Dame-BYU
14:16
Speaker 2: is A, game ends as it was, and BYU gets
14:21
Speaker 2: the win that they earned. B, pass interference flag should
14:25
Speaker 2: have come in there. C, you don't have to throw
14:29
Speaker 2: a flag, but Notre Dame gets one more snap. Which
14:32
Speaker 2: one do you take?
14:34
Speaker 3: I'm taking A because that's what happened, and I don't.
14:38
Speaker 3: I don't really concern or, or talk, you know, like, okay,
14:42
Speaker 3: go back in time. Do I think that, but now
14:46
Speaker 3: if you're really like, you're really going to ask me,
14:48
Speaker 3: I don't, you know, like there's one second on the clock. Right.
14:52
Speaker 3: And did they go back and see when the ball
14:55
Speaker 3: actually hit that it turned zero and on a different clock,
14:59
Speaker 3: like nobody knows, it doesn't really matter. BYU outplayed Notre Dame.
15:03
Speaker 3: It shouldn't have been close. They were the better team.
15:06
Speaker 3: And yeah, So, yeah, like, I look at it in
15:10
Speaker 3: that retrospect. Yeah, if I'm a Notre Dame fan, like, dang,
15:12
Speaker 3: I'm probably pissed off. But just unbiasedly and seeing it
15:16
Speaker 3: during the game, seeing how they called that game in
15:19
Speaker 3: the second half, I 100% agree why they didn't throw
15:22
Speaker 3: the flag. And I didn't think it was really warranted
15:24
Speaker 3: anyways with the ball placement and him widening so far
15:28
Speaker 3: to the sideline. Like, I thought it was good on good.
15:30
Speaker 3: They called those tiki-tac penalties throughout the first half. They
15:33
Speaker 3: tightened it up in the second half. And... What I
15:38
Speaker 3: was most impressed with was how BYU handled... They physically...
15:47
Speaker 3: I won't say manually, but they matched up with Notre Dame,
15:50
Speaker 3: which I was really surprised. I thought there would be
15:54
Speaker 3: a disadvantage for BYU in the trenches, the physicality, the athleticism.
16:01
Speaker 3: And I actually thought BYU was more than them, which...
16:05
Speaker 3: It showed. I mean, anyone that watched in person, you
16:07
Speaker 3: could tell they were the better team. They were a
16:10
Speaker 3: better coach. They out-executed them. You take away the muff
16:13
Speaker 3: plant and the fake plant inside their own 30, I
16:19
Speaker 3: bet they win by 20 the way the game was.
16:22
Speaker 3: So BYU is going to be a tough team, man.
16:27
Speaker 3: And as of right now, I think they're the better
16:28
Speaker 3: team if we're looking at the Big 12. After this Saturday,
16:32
Speaker 3: we're going to know where we stand, and I'll have
16:34
Speaker 3: a better inclination of that game in a few weeks
16:40
Speaker 3: that I'll be at, and we'll be representing the U
16:42
Speaker 3: all day, every day. But it was an impressive win, man.
16:47
Speaker 3: It really was, and it was great for the conference.
16:49
Speaker 3: It really was to now have the opportunity to have
16:51
Speaker 3: that win on BYU's resume. That 11-1 or potentially a 10-2,
16:57
Speaker 3: being 12 champ, we can get multiple teams in the playoffs,
17:01
Speaker 3: which is huge.
17:03
Speaker 2: How come people on the Internet are trying to place
17:07
Speaker 2: you in a BYU celebration throwing up the Y with
17:12
Speaker 2: any random bearded dude in the picture?
17:14
Speaker 3: You know, the Internet is crazy, and at least I
17:21
Speaker 3: can defend myself. I can get up there and dispute
17:26
Speaker 3: anything that's not true like I did once I saw it.
17:28
Speaker 3: I was like, guys. That's 100% not me, and I
17:31
Speaker 3: would never, ever, ever throw up the why in public. Like, okay,
17:36
Speaker 3: that's not something I would ever do. I did it
17:40
Speaker 3: when my daughter decided that she's going to BYU, like,
17:44
Speaker 3: to support her. But I'm telling you right now, you'll
17:47
Speaker 3: never see me on a field for BYU unless, like,
17:51
Speaker 3: my son was playing there, right? Like, I have respect
17:54
Speaker 3: for my Utes, but I also have respect for BYU.
17:57
Speaker 3: So we watched the rush. trying to find out where
18:00
Speaker 3: Brooklyn was in the chaos. And then literally, like, five
18:04
Speaker 3: minutes into the rush in the field, we left. Like,
18:06
Speaker 3: we were already out of the stadium. So, you know,
18:10
Speaker 3: it's just cool. It's fans being crazy, like, which we love.
18:14
Speaker 3: We're crazy in our own right. But anyone that knows
18:17
Speaker 3: me knows I would never... ever be doing something like that.
18:23
Speaker 2: You got to watch out with the AI stuff these days, obviously.
18:26
Speaker 3: Oh, geez, I know. Nothing's safe anymore.
18:29
Speaker 2: What is the NFL group chat saying about the way
18:32
Speaker 2: that the Philadelphia Eagles handled the blood clot situation with
18:36
Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts? Like, I sometimes roll my eyes at all
18:40
Speaker 2: the player safety stuff because, you know, it's like fans
18:43
Speaker 2: don't actually care if a guy plays when he's concussed.
18:47
Speaker 2: Everyone tries to get on a high horse about it.
18:50
Speaker 2: But this one, this one is like really scary. Blood
18:54
Speaker 2: clots in your lungs. You're staying up for 36 hours.
18:57
Speaker 2: And then the team's like, yeah, but you're cool. Go
18:59
Speaker 2: play a football game. What are the NFL players saying
19:02
Speaker 2: about this?
19:04
Speaker 3: Oh, man, that whole story is pretty interesting and wild.
19:10
Speaker 3: And I don't know, like, I haven't read up fully
19:14
Speaker 3: on all the stuff that's come out. Initially, I read that.
19:18
Speaker 3: when they first identified the blood clot in his calf,
19:24
Speaker 3: that they said or told him that playing was actually
19:28
Speaker 3: better for it. I don't know if that was any
19:31
Speaker 3: true or not, but playing the game is something that, like,
19:36
Speaker 3: as a player, you've got to remember, like, as a player,
19:39
Speaker 3: we don't know anything from anything other than I play football,
19:43
Speaker 3: X's and O's, like, This is what I do. So
19:46
Speaker 3: if a doctor says, yeah, you're good to play, then okay.
19:50
Speaker 3: I'm good to play. Like, let's rock. And then if
19:53
Speaker 3: it's borderline, and, you know, we've all had in history
19:57
Speaker 3: with doctors and teams, if it's borderline, then you're going
20:00
Speaker 3: to be like, all right, I'm playing. Like, this is
20:03
Speaker 3: what I do. Now, as serious as this was, I
20:07
Speaker 3: don't know how they allowed it. But they did, and now, like, gosh,
20:14
Speaker 3: his career and health is in jeopardy. So I just
20:18
Speaker 3: hope he's going to be okay, for one. But two,
20:23
Speaker 3: everyone has to remember, like, they don't really care about you.
20:29
Speaker 3: They care about winning football games. And, you know, the
20:33
Speaker 3: game will go on. They'll find a new player to
20:35
Speaker 3: replace Hurts and get through the season. Like, the NFL
20:39
Speaker 3: will never stop. right like they'll just the next guy's
20:42
Speaker 3: up and then this will be this will get glossed
20:44
Speaker 3: over and everyone will forget talking about it because of
20:47
Speaker 3: all the gambling and the fast fantasy football and this
20:51
Speaker 3: that and the other uh and hopefully they get to
20:53
Speaker 3: the bottom and because if some if there was a
20:55
Speaker 3: mistake that person needs to be fired and uh things
21:00
Speaker 3: need to be made just for for that mistake.
21:03
Speaker 2: What is the craziest teammate versus teammate dispute that you
21:07
Speaker 2: were ever close to or witnessed? I don't know if
21:11
Speaker 2: you heard about what happened in Tennessee with a boy
21:15
Speaker 2: going out to the car to get a gun. But
21:19
Speaker 2: what's the craziest one that you were around?
21:21
Speaker 3: I mean, what is going on with people's minds? We've
21:27
Speaker 3: always handled disputes in the locker room. And I've seen fights.
21:31
Speaker 3: I've seen fights. arguments, nothing more than hashing it out
21:37
Speaker 3: in the locker room, especially as grown men. That gets handled.
21:41
Speaker 3: This is old school. Now, new school, it's way different now.
21:44
Speaker 3: I don't know. It's like social media fighting instead of
21:48
Speaker 3: just hanging like men and talking face-to-face. So I've seen that.
21:53
Speaker 3: I've seen over, you know, card playing, gambling amongst each other.
21:59
Speaker 3: and money being owed, that could get pretty tenacious and
22:03
Speaker 3: heightened between adults and males. But nothing to the extent
22:10
Speaker 3: of going to get a gun and wanting to shoot
22:12
Speaker 3: someone over whatever happened. Like, that is crazy, and he
22:19
Speaker 3: needs help because that's not– I mean, I was telling
22:23
Speaker 3: one of my assistants, like, that's premeditative, pre– Did I
22:28
Speaker 3: say it right? Premeditated?
22:29
Speaker 2: Premeditated, yeah, yeah.
22:30
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, hold on, man. You brought a gun,
22:34
Speaker 3: which is against the rules. Like, you could get fired
22:38
Speaker 3: and reprimanded for bringing a firearm on NFL, like, boundaries. Like,
22:47
Speaker 3: as soon as you drive into the parking lot of
22:48
Speaker 3: an NFL facility, we have certain rules. Like, you can't
22:51
Speaker 3: do this, you can't do that. So, bringing a firearm
22:53
Speaker 3: in your car on the... NFL landscape or whatever, like
23:01
Speaker 3: that's already, you're already breaking a rule. Now you're, you,
23:04
Speaker 3: you're doing it to her somewhat like that's, that's bad ball. You,
23:08
Speaker 3: you got, you got issues and I don't, I wouldn't be,
23:12
Speaker 3: I don't want him as a teammate, let alone someone
23:14
Speaker 3: around me.
23:16
Speaker 2: Pretty, pretty crazy. Pretty nuts. Robert Sala has, You know,
23:22
Speaker 2: he stood at the podium and spoke to the guy's
23:24
Speaker 2: character and said, this is a cry for help. This
23:28
Speaker 2: is not a criminal act. And I was kind of
23:30
Speaker 2: surprised by his comment there.
23:32
Speaker 3: Yeah. Hey, Coach Sala, like, if you really believed in
23:35
Speaker 3: this kid and knew he had something wrong, then why
23:37
Speaker 3: didn't you help him? Like, we're so after the fact.
23:42
Speaker 3: I think he said, and I could be totally wrong,
23:44
Speaker 3: but I think he said that he had been battling
23:48
Speaker 3: some things internally. Well, if that is the case, like, what,
23:54
Speaker 3: what are you doing? You're, you have people, many people
23:58
Speaker 3: that are required, not required, but there to help guys
24:02
Speaker 3: that are going through things like that. And you, you
24:05
Speaker 3: basically were like, just gloss it over. So do you
24:07
Speaker 3: really care about the kid? I don't know. Like, I
24:10
Speaker 3: think you're trying to stay face and try to say
24:12
Speaker 3: what the kid is, but this kid has some serious
24:15
Speaker 3: issues with them. So you're like going to bat, like
24:17
Speaker 3: you're willing to put your name on this kid who
24:19
Speaker 3: just tried to kill a teammate. I got it. I
24:22
Speaker 3: don't know about that, babe. I think you're, you're, you're
24:25
Speaker 3: stepping down the wrong street or putting your name on
24:27
Speaker 3: somebody's character. Like you're, you're really going to have to
24:31
Speaker 3: vouch for this kid's character after he tried to go
24:33
Speaker 3: to his car to grab a gun and kill a teammate. Hello. Yeah.
24:39
Speaker 3: Does anyone else see a problem with this?
24:41
Speaker 2: It wouldn't be me.
24:43
Speaker 3: What? But my goodness.
24:47
Speaker 2: You NFL guys are in a different world, man. That's
24:50
Speaker 2: crazy stuff.
24:51
Speaker 3: I guess so. I guess so. We do live in
24:54
Speaker 3: our own little world. We don't know what's going on
24:56
Speaker 3: in the real world. And that's true. We don't know
24:59
Speaker 3: what's going on in the world. Are we in a war?
25:06
Speaker 3: Who's the president? We don't know. We're just going at
25:11
Speaker 3: our own pace. But this, man, you're tripping. Yeah.
25:17
Speaker 2: Gnarly stuff. All right, man. Appreciate your time. We'll cut
25:21
Speaker 2: you loose. Good luck against mission Hills. Go kill the
25:25
Speaker 2: Grizzlies or whatever you're.
25:26
Speaker 3: Supposed to say. We got them. All right. See you, bro.
25:31
Speaker 2: See you, dude. That's Eric. Well, the Utah football legend,
25:35
Speaker 2: the NFL veteran.
