- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider Podcast, where we bring you tips and inspiration each day to help you build habits for writing success.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: For more resources, including your free Daily Rider Starter Kit, visit DailyRiderLife.com.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Well, it's good to be back with you here on the podcast, and as you probably know, we've been on a short break here the last few weeks, and it's great to enjoy break, and I'm a guy who loves a great break from all the hubbub and activity surrounding writing and business and all the things that I've been doing the last couple years.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: But I gotta tell you, it's also really good to be back.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: So I've missed you guys.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Let me just be honest, I've missed doing the podcast, and I'm super excited for all the things that we have in store for you over the next few months here on the show.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: So I would say we're doing a bit of a soft reset on this podcast.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: You might even call this the Daily Rider 2.0 in some ways.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: You probably noticed that the intro music is a little bit different, and also that I have a new spoken podcast intro.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And those are some really minor things, but I have much, much more important updates to share with you later in this episode.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: But first and foremost, I want to take this opportunity to give a shout out to our amazing podcast producer.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Her name is Rajen No, and she handles things like podcast editing and uploading, show notes, social media for the Daily Writer brand.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: She also does some things for our Daily Writer Club, which is our membership community, and she does a bunch of other things here and there.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Honestly, too many to list because she's always so helpful and she's always making these great suggestions about how to improve what we're doing.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So I want to take a second to give her a shout out because it's really been a gift to be able to work with her over the last year.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And it would be really difficult and honestly not very much fun to do this podcast and do all the daily writer stuff totally by myself.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So I want to give her a huge shout out and a massive thank you at the beginning of this episode for all that she does for us.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Now, I want to take a couple of minutes to share with you some specific updates about the podcast, upcoming projects, and some other things that I think will be interesting to you.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And I've got four specific updates as well as kind of a bonus thing at the end I want to share with you as well.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Number one, in the intro of this episode, you heard me mention something about a daily writer starter kit, and you were probably wondering what that was.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Well, the Daily Rider Starter Kit is our brand new premium resource for writers.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And the good news is that it's completely free and it doesn't cost you a penny.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: The Daily Rider Starter Kit is actually a collection of guides on the most important topics for writers who want to take their craft more seriously or even build a writing business.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And let me just be really honest with you here for a second.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: A lot of times when you go to somebody's website and you sign up for a free PDF or some type of free guide, it's a wimpy checklist or some short thing that's just like two pages long and somebody took like five minutes to put it together.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Now, those can be super helpful, and actually those kind of what they call lead magnets can be really, really effective because they solve a specific problem in a very, very short amount of time.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Nothing wrong with those.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I've created those before and I've used a lot of those.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: However, for this particular thing for the Daily Writer listeners and for my audience, I wanted to give you a level of a resource that you would normally pay for.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: So instead of just one short guide that I've cranked out in 10 minutes, we we have actually created seven in-depth guides on various aspects of successful writing.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And let me just tell you what these are so you know what you're getting when you sign up for these.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Number one, how to build a writing habit, seven practices for a lifetime of writing success.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Number two, The Writer's Path, Seven Milestones for Building a Writing Based Business.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Number three, The Ten Commandments of Blogging, How to Write Posts Your Readers Will Love.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Number four, start making money, ten ways to increase your income as a writer.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Number five is The Generous Writer, a secret strategy to increase your impact and influence.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Number six is Time Hacks for Writers, thirteen ways to save time, reduce stress, and skyrocket your productivity.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Then finally, the seventh guide in this daily writer starter kit pack of resources is daily writing prompts, which is 30 days of reflection and creativity.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: So as you can see, there's a ton of good stuff that we've packed into this starter kit.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And you can get this by going to dailywriterlife.com slash free, and it'll take you right to the page where you can sign up for these.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: And these guides will be delivered over a period of seven days.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: So basically one guide per day over a week.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: I am super excited about these.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: We've been working on these actually a really long time.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: So I really, really hope that you sign up for this and let us serve you in this way by giving you something that's really valuable, and not just like uh a one-page, you know, checklist of, hey, here's 10 things to be a more successful rider.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Because I mean those can be great, but I want to put something together for you guys that would be really, really special.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And this represents kind of like my heart and soul uh over the last few months working on these.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So make sure to grab those, go to daily riderlife.com slash free.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Now this takes me right to the next update, which is our Daily Rider Daily Email.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: So whenever you sign up for the Daily Rider Starter Kit, you are going to automatically start getting our daily emails, which is Monday through Friday with a Saturday recap.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: And these emails are basically a written version of each day's podcast.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Now, some people like to listen to podcasts, other people prefer to read things.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: I like delivering things in multiple formats to people, so you're gonna get our short daily email delivered right to your inbox every day after you uh finish the sequence of the seven things in the daily Rider Starter kit.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: So basically you're gonna get those seven emails, and then after that, you're gonna get a daily email, Monday through Friday with a Saturday recap from our system that includes basically the same content that the podcast has.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So if you'd like to listen to this podcast, which obviously you do because you're listening to it right now, you're also gonna get this in email form with all the links and with some extra bonuses occasionally uh with other goodies thrown in there.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: So uh so update number two is the daily rider email, which obviously is a daily thing.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: And then number three is our daily rider fall retreat.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Now, I have to be honest with you, in some sense I hesitate to mention this because this retreat is already close to being at capacity, and those spots are going to be filled pretty soon.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of I feel kind of crazy mentioning this because it's not something, you know, if you're not already signed up for this, you can't really come to it because it's already filled up.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: But I'm telling you this because you know, has that for marketing?
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Hey, here's this thing.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: By the way, you can't come to it.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: That's like the worst marketing ever.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: But the reason I'm mentioning it here is because this fall retreat is our first live event for the Daily Rider.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: And this is going to be held in St.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Charles, Missouri, close to where I live.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: I live in St.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Peter's, Missouri, actually, which is the next town west of St.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Charles.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: St.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Charles is just beyond the Missouri River, um, just outside of St.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Louis here in Missouri, obviously.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: And we have a really cool location for the small retreat.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: I've rented this really cool historic home in St.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Charles.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: St.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Charles has a lot of historical stuff in it.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: And I've rented this small uh this well, it's not really small.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I've rented this historical home for it.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: And it's super close to um historic Main Street in St.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Charles, where there's all these, gosh, dozens and dozens of historic shops, and it's literally right next to the Missouri River, so you can take a walk and next to the river.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: It's just a really, really cool location.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: So my goal with this retreat was to create a really cool experience for these 15 people.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: So uh about 15 people will be coming total to this retreat, and again, I said it's almost up to capacity, so it's not something I'm really promoting.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: But I wanted to tell you this because this is uh something we're gonna be doing more of uh over the coming months and years at the Daily Rider.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna start doing more of these retreats.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: If this one is a success, which I um I don't have any reason to think it's not gonna be really successful.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Now, something I'm thinking about doing, and I'm just putting this out there, I'm not committing to this necessarily, but if this sounds interesting to you, let me know because if there is interest, I will definitely do this.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: So, what I'm thinking about doing is some type of winter retreat in January, probably, that will not be a business-focused retreat, but it'll be focused on creative writing and reflection.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And this might take place at a retreat center or some kind of similar location, some kind of space that's really conducive to reflection, thinking, creation, creative writing, those kinds of things.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: The the retreat that we're doing in October here in St.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Charles close by is going to be more of a business-focused retreat.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: In fact, the focus of that retreat is putting together a little short book for everybody who's there.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: I believe in the power of short books, and I think everybody should have a book out there in the world, and that you should start by doing a little short book that solves a specific problem for somebody.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Speaking really specifically of nonfiction books.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: So that's going to be the focus of that retreat.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: But this winter retreat will be more focused on uh creative writing and reflection, that type of thing.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: So if that sounds interesting to you, shoot me an email.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: I'd love to hear your thoughts on that.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: You can always email me at Kent at DailyWriterLife.com.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Now, the fourth update, speaking of things that will be happening in January, the fourth update is one that has been in the works the longest, which is the Daily Writer Book, and that comes out the first week of January.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: The official title of this book is The Daily Writer, 366 Meditations on Habits, Creativity, and Finding Your Authentic Voice.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: So a draft of this book is written.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Uh, it's it's ready to go into edits and revisions and all that stuff, and the cover is done.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: So you're going to see me sharing this cover on social media really soon for, and it'll be available for pre-order, probably here in the next uh six weeks or so, maybe two months.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Haven't totally decided, but I'll let you know when it's available for pre-order.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: I'm really, really excited about this book, and I've been working on it for almost two years.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: So when I first had this idea for the daily writer concept, I was really frustrated because I couldn't find a book of daily inspiration and tips for writers.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: At least I couldn't find anything that I liked.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: And I wanted something that combined all the things that I felt were important for living the writer's life.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: And that doesn't just include the cloud the craft of writing, even though that's really important.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: It also includes things like building a writing business, how to make money as a writer, networking, thinking about your legacy as a writer, overcoming fear and procrastination, getting clear on your identity as a writer, how to be more creative, all those kinds of things.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And I could not, for the life of me, find any kind of resource that gave a short daily meditation or a daily devotion that kind of ran through all those topics in a year's time, that that would that would take me through the topics I felt like were important once a year.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: So I thought, well, I can't find anything like that, so I'm just gonna have to write it.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: And that's really kind of what caused me to want to do a daily podcast.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Because I knew that I would not sit down and just write this book because it's gonna be like a 400-page book.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: You know, you don't just sit down and write a 400-page book in a few weeks' time.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: So essentially, what you've been hearing the last couple of years on the podcast as far as the short daily episodes, those have basically been the first drafts of entries in that book.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: So I essentially wrote the book for myself as a reminder of the most important things that I wanted to keep in mind on my writing journey.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: So I know that if you like this podcast, you're gonna really, really enjoy this book as well.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: And just to be honest with you, from a marketing standpoint, my goal is to create things that writers can use every day.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Because if I write like a book on writing that just goes through, you know, and solves some kind of a problem or it's on kind of some kind of writing-related topic, you might read it and enjoy it, but then you're gonna set it on your shelf.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: But I want to be your daily companion.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Now that I say that out loud, that sounds kind of strange, I guess, but maybe it's slightly creepy.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: But what I mean by that, uh what I totally mean by that is that I want to be your daily guide as you are writing from a creative standpoint, but also from a business standpoint.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, from a networking standpoint, from a standpoint of trying to conquer your fear and overcome procrastination.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: And I just want to help you with all those things because I care about you and I care about your success as a writer.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: So my goal has been with this podcast, number one, to give you something you can listen to daily that's gonna give you daily tips and inspiration.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: The goal of the Daily Writer book is the exact same thing: to give you a book or resource that you can consult every day that's gonna give you a little spark, uh, a little tip, a little something that's gonna give you a nudge to help you get the work done and build your writing business or meet your creative goals, you know, whatever's important to you as a writer.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: So that's what's behind all that.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: That's my thinking behind all that.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: And again, I couldn't find anything like that.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: So I thought, well, I'm gonna have to create it myself, which is where this whole thing has come from.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: So I'm super excited for this book.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: I really, really have, when I say I've poured my heart and soul into this, I legitimately mean that.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, over the last two years, I've just uh virtually every week I've spent several hours at least working on this content.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: And now that we have our daily writer club, well, that's been going actually almost two years.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Um what I'm basically doing on the podcast is using content from that I'm teaching in there, and I'm breaking it up into little tiny segments for these daily episodes on the podcast.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: So, like tomorrow, uh here on the show, we're gonna start talking about why you should focus on one core message in your writing and in your writing business.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: And that's something that we've been talking about a lot in our writing community.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: So I'm kind of taking content that I'm developing and using it here on the podcast.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: So those are the four kind of most important updates that I wanted to share with you.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Now, there is one more thing kind of as a bonus that I want to throw in here.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: It's not directly related to the Daily Rider, but it's related to me, which is obviously related to the Daily Rider, and I think you might be interested in this.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: So I just mentioned a book release that I'll have coming out in January, and actually my next book is coming out much sooner than that.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: It comes out October the 4th, and this uh project is really, really special to me.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: It's a really, really cool project, and I think you're really gonna like it.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: So this comes out on October the 4th, and it's called The Faith of Elvis.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: I actually wrote this book with Billy Stanley, who is Elvis Presley's stepbrother.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Billy and his two younger brothers grew up with Elvis.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: They were part of his family and his entourage, and they knew Elvis uh almost better than anybody else in the world.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: They saw firsthand the highs and the lows and everything in Elvis' life, and it's just a really, really remarkable story.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: And Billy wanted to share the story of Elvis' spiritual faith.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: So that's what this book is all about.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: It is the story of Elvis' faith as Billy witnessed it firsthand.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Now, the Faith of Elvis is published through Thomas Nelson Publishing, which is an imprint of HarperCollins.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: So this is a major release through a traditional publisher, and what's really cool is they've actually hired the biggest PR agency in Hollywood to help with the marketing and the PR for this book.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: And they are super excited about it.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: And, you know, which when you hire a big PR agency to really get the word out about a project, that means that means the publisher really, really believes in this book.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: So they have brought at the big guns to get it featured on all sorts of media.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: So if you tune in to any sort of um daytime TV shows, big radio stations, um, you're gonna probably hear this mentioned over the next few weeks and couple months because they've they've gotten placement on some really, really cool things.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: I can't really say what they are because I don't think they would want me to to share that info here yet on my podcast.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Um but just trust me when I say it's gonna be all over the place, and uh I'm really, really excited about this project.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: Working on the book has been a great learning experience.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: I honestly I had a really, really great experience with this.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: You know, sometimes you hear authors when they talk about working with publishers and editors, they they sort of talk about their frustrations and the things they didn't like about the process and and all that.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: I really experienced none of that working with uh Thomas Nelson publishers.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Um people from HarperCollins are wonderful.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Uh the editor that I worked with there, actually several editors, was absolutely amazing.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Um she definitely made the book much better.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: And working with Billy Stanley, Elvis' stepbrother, was an amazing experience.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Um he was an absolutely wonderful, wonderful collaborator.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: So I had a blast working on this book.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: Now, obviously I'm a little bit biased, but I think the book is really, really good.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: I think it's one of the best things I've ever written.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: And of course, I had Billy's help and the editor's help and all that.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: So it's not like it was the product of just one person.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: But I absolutely love this project, and I think you're gonna really, really enjoy it as well.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: So make sure and check out that book on Amazon.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: It's called The Faith of Elvis.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: There will be a link in the show notes for it.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, friends, that's it for this episode.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: I appreciate your support, and I always love hearing from you.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Please know that you are always free to email me anytime with questions or comments, or let me know how I can help it anyway.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: You can do that by shooting me a message at Kent at DailyRiderLife.com.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: And make sure to grab your free Daily Rider Starter Kit at DailyRiderLife.comslash free.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much, and I'll see you in the next episode.
