Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Thank you, Mike. Lane, you pull off the 3-2 shootout
- 0:04Speaker 1: win in Philadelphia the other night. You had a 2-0 lead.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Flyers respond in the third period. Strong goaltending as well
- 0:12Speaker 1: in that game. Just give us your overall thoughts on
- 0:15Speaker 1: gutting out that 3-2 win against the Flyers.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I mean, it was a fast hockey game. I thought
- 0:19Speaker 2: they played with a lot of speed. I felt like
- 0:21Speaker 2: we played with a lot of.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Speed, too.
- 0:23Speaker 2: So it was a good hockey game from that standpoint.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Transition games from both teams were pretty strong. Gruby made
- 0:31Speaker 2: some good saves when he had to you know we
- 0:33Speaker 2: didn't give them a whole lot to be honest with
- 0:37Speaker 2: you but you know I mean as in anything you
- 0:40Speaker 2: know when they do get their chances they're dangerous and
- 0:43Speaker 2: we were also dangerous when we had our chances so
- 0:46Speaker 2: I liked our response after they tied it up we
- 0:50Speaker 2: made a bad mistake on a 4 on 4 that
- 0:53Speaker 2: can't happen and they tied it up but I liked
- 0:56Speaker 2: our response from there and I don't know if they
- 0:58Speaker 2: got a shot on goal in the last I don't know,
- 1:00Speaker 2: 15 minutes of the hockey game. So we had plenty
- 1:03Speaker 2: of chances to win coming down the stretch, and I'm
- 1:05Speaker 2: glad we won in the shootout.
- 1:07Speaker 1: You never want to give up the two-goal lead in
- 1:09Speaker 1: the third period, but are you disappointed in the way
- 1:12Speaker 1: the game went in the third, or is that just
- 1:14Speaker 1: how hockey games go? One team has the upper hand
- 1:17Speaker 1: and the next team counters. What do you feel about
- 1:20Speaker 1: that third period?
- 1:21Speaker 2: Well, the only thing about the third period for me
- 1:23Speaker 2: is we came out And it was like we were
- 1:27Speaker 2: trying to protect the 2-0 lead instead of just building
- 1:29Speaker 2: a 3-0 lead and a 4-0 lead. And I don't
- 1:32Speaker 2: like that. That's not the way I want to play.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I would, like I said, all along, I'd rather go
- 1:37Speaker 2: down swinging than standing there looking at a third strike.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I thought we were looking at third strikes until they
- 1:41Speaker 2: finally got on the board. And, you know, then in
- 1:46Speaker 2: fairness to our guys, kudos to them for responding after
- 1:50Speaker 2: they tied it up.
- 1:51Speaker 1: We talked to Josh Mahura after the game about the
- 1:53Speaker 1: play of Philip Grubauer and the big saves that he made.
- 1:55Speaker 1: He mixed it up and got some physicality there with
- 2:00Speaker 1: Zegers in the game. We've talked about goaltending so much
- 2:03Speaker 1: this year being a big strength for this team. What
- 2:06Speaker 1: is it about Grubauer's game that stood out to you
- 2:09Speaker 1: these first few games? Him being able to pull the
- 2:13Speaker 1: Kraken back into that game, I thought that was a
- 2:15Speaker 1: really strong effort from him. Just your thoughts on Grubauer.
- 2:18Speaker 2: He's played well for us. You know, both goalies have
- 2:22Speaker 2: played well for us, you know, in particular. You're asking
- 2:25Speaker 2: me about Phillip, and I think he played very well,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and he's been playing very well. You know, so we
- 2:32Speaker 2: just need to keep going. Like, we're trying to put
- 2:35Speaker 2: the best environment in place possible for them to have success.
- 2:40Speaker 2: And when we do break down, our goaltenders have been
- 2:42Speaker 2: good for us this year so far, and you need that.
- 2:44Speaker 2: It doesn't matter who you are. You need good goaltending
- 2:46Speaker 2: if you're going to win in this league. If you
- 2:47Speaker 2: don't get it, you're not winning.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I don't care. I don't care. 3-0 on this road
- 2:51Speaker 1: trip so far. Of course, the results are what they are.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But what have you made of these first three games
- 2:57Speaker 1: for Seattle overall, how the team has played? And going
- 3:00Speaker 1: into these last two, what are some specifics you want
- 3:03Speaker 1: to see maybe cleaned up or improved on as the
- 3:06Speaker 1: Kraken head to Tampa and then Florida Saturday?
- 3:08Speaker 2: I think we played pretty well for the most part.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You know, you go into opposition buildings and they always
- 3:13Speaker 2: seem to, you know, not always, but most of the
- 3:15Speaker 2: time they have a nice push. I thought Detroit pushed
- 3:18Speaker 2: pretty hard right off the bat. I don't believe it
- 3:19Speaker 2: was great. um you know and i think overall what
- 3:24Speaker 2: i've thought we've done a decent job of is we've
- 3:27Speaker 2: limited their chances uh you know i think we've given
- 3:30Speaker 2: up 10 grade a chances in three hockey games five
- 3:34Speaker 2: on five um on the road i think that's pretty
- 3:38Speaker 2: good uh you know we've created more grade a's than
- 3:41Speaker 2: we've given up which is uh really a huge thing
- 3:45Speaker 2: for me. I take a real strong look at grade
- 3:47Speaker 2: A chances, you know, shots from outside that maybe are
- 3:50Speaker 2: a C chance aren't very dangerous. They can turn into
- 3:53Speaker 2: dangerous shots if you don't, you know, control the rebounds
- 3:55Speaker 2: or whatever, but I think we've done a decent job
- 3:58Speaker 2: of that. Now, in saying that, we've got a team
- 4:01Speaker 2: here tonight that is as high octane as you can
- 4:04Speaker 2: get with, you know, I mean, what do you say? Like,
- 4:09Speaker 2: pointing future off. You know, you talk McKinnon-McCarr, you talk Dreisaitl-McDavid, like,
- 4:14Speaker 2: I don't know. Nikita Kucherov could be. I'm not saying
- 4:17Speaker 2: he is 100%, but he could be the most intelligent
- 4:20Speaker 2: player in the National Hockey League. We're going to have
- 4:23Speaker 2: to play well defensively, but I don't want us to
- 4:26Speaker 2: sit back and watch them come at us. I want
- 4:28Speaker 2: to go after them.
