- 0:00Mark: Welcome back to the Be One Podcast.
- 0:03Mark: I am Mark Brown.
- 0:04Blake: And I'm Blake.
- 0:05Blake: It's great to have you in the house today.
- 0:06Blake: Thanks for joining us.
- 0:07Mark: Yes.
- 0:07Mark: We love you.
- 0:08Mark: I would like to say it is rather toasty in this room today.
- 0:12Mark: So I am a fan of the And you naturally sweat.
- 0:15Mark: I do.
- 0:15Mark: You're a gifted sweater.
- 0:16Mark: I am a gifted sweater.
- 0:18Blake: I don't know if you know this about Mark, but when he eats salsa, it just starts pouring out of him.
- 0:22Blake: Profusely.
- 0:24Blake: Yeah, it's embarrassing for me to watch you sweat the way you do.
- 0:27Mark: When I brush my teeth, I sweat because the toothpaste is rather warm.
- 0:32Mark: So anyway, but we're back in uh welcome.
- 0:36Mark: How was your week?
- 0:37Blake: Great week.
- 0:38Blake: Uh fired up to talk about today's Jesus is king.
- 0:42Blake: I wore a shirt, t-shirt that said Jesus, bought it on Amazon just for my sermon.
- 0:48Blake: And so this last Sunday was uh an epic Sunday.
- 0:51Blake: I loved the way it crescendoed towards the end.
- 0:54Blake: And um man, it just made me think a lot about ways that I don't allow Christ on the throne of my heart.
- 1:02Blake: Yeah.
- 1:02Blake: And so what are some ways, Mark, that you do that?
- 1:05Blake: That you don't allow Christ to be the throne on the throne of your heart.
- 1:11Mark: I think about uh maybe if I asked your wife, what would she say?
- 1:15Mark: Okay, okay.
- 1:16Mark: Um well I'll tell you this that uh I have an affectionate name of uh Hoover because after meals I'll go around and make sure all the plates are clean.
- 1:28Mark: You just clean them up and just clean them up.
- 1:30Mark: Not in the trash, but in my mouth.
- 1:32Mark: Okay.
- 1:32Mark: Yeah.
- 1:33Blake: That's dad, that's dad move.
- 1:36Mark: But I I would say that's probably a borderline gluttony.
- 1:39Mark: And uh so that's one way I'll say that I I don't allow him to sit on the throne of my heart.
- 1:45Mark: And what you mean by that is like you don't you don't have self-control.
- 1:48Mark: Self-control, I would say, yeah.
- 1:50Blake: Yeah.
- 1:50Blake: And so you're a gluttonous pig that just consumes and consumes and consumes.
- 1:55Blake: Yeah, the Hoover.
- 1:57Mark: Yeah, how about you?
- 1:57Mark: Thank you for that confession.
- 1:58Mark: Yeah.
- 1:59Blake: We received that today.
- 2:00Mark: Uh yeah.
- 2:03Blake: Uh well, there's a lot of ways.
- 2:05Blake: I think um recently, can I go be real honest with my podcast people?
- 2:11Blake: Uh Saturday nights, it feels like the devil's after me.
- 2:15Blake: And I've recently noticed that, you know, I'll have like three to four hours of sleep, and weird things happen.
- 2:22Blake: Like my I have one of those thermometers that turns on when you walk by it, you know, and nobody's moving.
- 2:29Blake: Everyone's asleep and it turns on.
- 2:31Blake: And it's like, devil, if you open my room, you don't have no place, and I'll start praying.
- 2:35Blake: Uh and I I just sometimes feel like I, you know, I have extra anxiety.
- 2:42Blake: Last this is gonna tell you something that I probably shouldn't share.
- 2:45Blake: But two weeks ago, Luke preached, and before he preached, my man pooped five times.
- 2:50Blake: Okay.
- 2:51Blake: Right?
- 2:52Blake: Okay.
- 2:52Blake: Right before the sermon.
- 2:54Blake: And what I'm saying is your body, your body holds nerves inside of it.
- 2:58Blake: And I don't know if it's just anxiety, right?
- 3:01Blake: It could be fear, it could be worry, it could be that my mind won't shut down because I'll go over the sermon, over the sermon, over the sermon all day Saturday, and then I'm usually reading it right before I go to bed on Saturday night.
- 3:13Blake: And so then it's like I'm thinking through like stories I could tell, and there's like last-minute editions, and I make changes all the way through it.
- 3:21Blake: So what I would say, I, you know, it comes down to control.
- 3:25Blake: At some point, you have to say, God, I I've done my best, you do the rest.
- 3:30Blake: Come on, let's say that.
- 3:32Blake: I've done my best, you do the rest.
- 3:34Blake: You open up your hands and say, Here, here's my plans.
- 3:37Blake: Yeah, I'm gonna give you the rest to to do the rest of the work, right?
- 3:41Mark: But uh, let me just back up and just say, like if uh if Sunday, a Saturday evening you're that's heavy on your heart, and the Lord you feel like you're still kind of refining the message that's being taught, and we believe, you know, just some fringy things of like it's more spiritual than you think, you say often.
- 4:00Mark: And scripture tells us that we battle not with flesh and blood, so not things that we can see, but thing but spiritual forces and of the heavenly realms.
- 4:10Mark: Um, you know, I would imagine that there are some forces that on Saturday night, Saturday night would that would love to divert your attention.
- 4:21Blake: Yeah.
- 4:21Blake: And so my body, it holds all that tension and stress and worry inside of it, and it, you know, it's like Sunday mornings I like like Luke, I'll pee a whole lot more.
- 4:31Blake: And my body's telling me like there's reason, like there's you know, extra it says that teachers will be judged more harshly, more critically than the rest.
- 4:42Blake: And so I've I feel the responsibility to rightly divide the truth, right?
- 4:47Blake: To teach the scriptures.
- 4:48Blake: It's this incredible opportunity where I get to partner with divinity.
- 4:52Blake: Yeah.
- 4:53Blake: In a in a feeble, broken, fallible human, I get to somehow become the voice of God.
- 5:00Blake: And I hear that all the time.
- 5:01Blake: People will say on a Sunday afternoon out in the lobby, uh man, exactly what I was studying this week is exactly what you said.
- 5:07Blake: And it always is so humbling to hear that.
- 5:09Blake: It's like it blows me away.
- 5:10Blake: Like, praise God for that affirmation that the Holy Spirit used me.
- 5:14Blake: But at some point when we're in the process, you do the same when you're putting a worship set together.
- 5:20Blake: Like I've planned, I've prepared, I put everything in click, right?
- 5:24Blake: I did everything to put this song so everybody could know their part on electric and keys.
- 5:30Blake: And it's like a whole lot of work to get it to the point, like, okay, it's go time.
- 5:33Blake: And at some point you have to go, all right, Lord, take over.
- 5:37Blake: Apart from me, I can do nothing, right?
- 5:40Blake: Jesus, I don't want to try to do this apart from you.
- 5:43Blake: And so that's a lot of times what surrendering to God to his lordship over my life is, is if if I'm son, if I'm really in control, will you just breathe and let go?
- 5:56Mark: Yeah.
- 5:57Blake: Yeah.
- 5:57Blake: And so I gave this analogy to our staff.
- 5:59Blake: Do you think I should share it here?
- 6:00Mark: Yeah.
- 6:00Blake: Yeah.
- 6:00Blake: I was talking about how um, and I'm thinking I'm probably going to preach this this coming weekend or in this series somewhere because it has so much to do with um control.
- 6:09Blake: And so everybody that's listening online, wherever you're at, maybe you're driving, maybe you're in your car, everybody say this.
- 6:15Blake: Are you ready?
- 6:15Blake: God's in control.
- 6:16Mark: God's in control.
- 6:17Mark: And I'm not.
- 6:18Mark: And I'm not.
- 6:19Blake: And that might be hard for some people to say because if you're a control freak, it's like I I don't want to say I'm not in control.
- 6:26Blake: Yeah.
- 6:27Blake: And yet at the same time, I was I took my wife uh for the first time ever downhilling.
- 6:33Blake: We went to this mountain where you like put your these mountain, you you put more gear on.
- 6:38Blake: You have a helmet, you have shoulder pads, you have shin pads.
- 6:42Mark: I mean, you look like the guys on The Walking Dead.
- 6:44Mark: Yeah, yeah, it's like I'm fucking zombies.
- 6:48Mark: That's right.
- 6:49Blake: And and then you put your bike on a chairlift that goes up like a ski lift that goes up on the mountain, and then you get off on these bikes that are like gigantic.
- 6:56Blake: The bike was way bigger than my wife.
- 6:59Blake: And so she gets on this bike and she is terrified.
- 7:02Blake: Terrified.
- 7:04Blake: And she's pedaling and she's very like has her foot her um weight is in the back.
- 7:09Blake: She's sitting down and she's scared, and it's a narrow path and it's a steep hill, and so she she won't she won't let go.
- 7:17Blake: And so there was this moment I said, baby, listen, it's like snow skiing.
- 7:22Blake: When you're snow skiing and you have your weight on the back of your heels, you're in more danger than if you just lean forward and attack the mountain.
- 7:30Blake: If you're on the offense on something like this, you're gonna get hurt.
- 7:34Mark: Yeah.
- 7:34Blake: But if you'll get on the uh, excuse me, other way around, if you're on the defense, you're gonna get hurt.
- 7:39Blake: But if you get on the offensive and you attack it, right?
- 7:43Blake: And I just said you can and so there's two choices to live terrified and hold on and try to control, or you lean in and bomb the mountain.
- 7:55Blake: Right.
- 7:55Blake: You know what I mean?
- 7:56Blake: And go, you know what, I'm just gonna lean in and I'm gonna enjoy this.
- 7:58Blake: I'm gonna let the weight take over.
- 8:00Blake: And then my sweet little Allie.
- 8:03Blake: Well, first of all, something happened.
- 8:05Blake: She had a pretty bad wreck.
- 8:06Blake: Downhill.
- 8:08Blake: Yeah, it was bad.
- 8:09Blake: She it's like there's this turn, and she goes over, and as she's going over, she turns and lands on her bike, on her back.
- 8:16Blake: She's sliding on her back down the hill on some rocks.
- 8:20Mark: Yeah.
- 8:21Blake: And the bike comes down to land on top of her.
- 8:24Blake: Bro.
- 8:25Blake: And I'm watching all this, I'm helpless watching my wife just fall down the mountain.
- 8:30Blake: And something happens inside of my wife.
- 8:32Blake: She was this um softball player, and she gets really intense when she gets hurt.
- 8:37Blake: It's like it turns this flip in her, the switch in her, and she's like, Oh, come on now, sucker.
- 8:41Blake: You know, she like gets really aggressive, the bike's gonna land on her.
- 8:44Blake: She reaches up with her foot, boom, kicks the bike, and it jumps, it goes to the side, and then she stands up, goes, Okay, come on.
- 8:51Blake: I got you, mountain.
- 8:52Blake: She gets back on the mountain, and then it was like something in her turned on, and she started leaning.
- 8:58Blake: You should have heard her tell the story.
- 8:59Blake: She's like, I started leaning into the curve, and the students are like, dip my head and my shoulder into the curve and lean into it.
- 9:06Blake: Then the bike would go a little faster, and it'd be it got so much more fun, like a roller coaster going down this mountain.
- 9:11Blake: And I was like, girl.
- 9:13Blake: I mean, as a husband, it's like that was sexy.
- 9:18Mark: This was a pretty much a ski slope, right?
- 9:21Blake: It's a ski slope that they convert in the summer into a downhill mountain biking trail.
- 9:25Blake: That's insane.
- 9:26Blake: Yeah.
- 9:26Blake: And so I was so proud of Allie because I just I watched her go, I if I try to control this and live in fear, right, and terrified, it's not gonna go well.
- 9:37Blake: Yeah.
- 9:38Blake: But if I embrace the exhilaration and lean in and let go, and you know, just it's kind of like your golf swing, Mark.
- 9:46Blake: Yeah.
- 9:46Blake: Can we talk about your golf swing?
- 9:47Blake: Okay, it's it's horrendous.
- 9:50Blake: Yeah, thank you.
- 9:51Blake: And it's it you're trying to control it.
- 9:54Blake: You grip the thing so tight, and it looks like a rhinoceros playing golf.
- 9:58Blake: Yeah.
- 9:59Blake: You're just swinging, it's like you're trying too hard.
- 10:03Blake: But when you let loose and it's like this flow, it's like ooji kabooji, you know what I mean?
- 10:08Blake: Like, like as or Coca Cola.
- 10:11Blake: There's like this rhythm.
- 10:12Blake: And and when you lean into that and let go of the terrifying fear, and you start to go, I'm just gonna embrace the joy of letting this happen.
- 10:20Blake: And that's true in every every part of life.
- 10:23Blake: It seems like when I try my hardest to preach a good sermon, yeah, it seems like they're never good.
- 10:28Blake: But if I just go, God, I'm just gonna let you do what you do.
- 10:30Blake: Just you know, speak boldly, powerfully, Holy Spirit.
- 10:34Blake: I I've done my part, and now I'm just gonna let you do what, you know, the Holy Spirit just flows in.
- 10:38Blake: And there's a rhythm and a breathe into preaching, even.
- 10:41Blake: And so when I think about ways that I need to let God be Lord of my life, it's probably in things like that.
- 10:50Blake: There's probably in in leadership stuff with my staff, I might tend to sometimes be a little controlling.
- 10:57Blake: Uh, it's in hires, probably.
- 11:00Blake: Um, it's in where we're at with for the one program, you know, in trying to know God, do we need to build a new sanctuary?
- 11:06Blake: Yeah.
- 11:06Blake: And it's it's letting go of like, God, this is completely out of my control.
- 11:10Blake: Yeah.
- 11:10Blake: And I'm not gonna live in fear and be terrified.
- 11:13Blake: Yeah.
- 11:13Blake: Um, yeah.
- 11:14Blake: What are some places where you found yourself gripping really hard and you felt felt like you're controlling something out of fear versus walking by faith and letting go, you know, because it's really that.
- 11:25Mark: Yeah.
- 11:26Mark: Well, uh, I mean, I I grew up um and I had uh I had a hard time making decisions when I was younger.
- 11:34Mark: Um analysis of paralysis or paralysis of analysis, whatever.
- 11:38Mark: I was with you.
- 11:38Mark: And uh even to the to the place of like for lunch, like I would like, should I do chicken or beef?
- 11:47Mark: You know, like it was just like I didn't want to make the wrong decision, you know.
- 11:50Mark: And um it wasn't until um we were faced with the decision of uh w w we were living in Alpharetta at the time.
- 11:58Mark: Um do we move to Aiken, South Carolina, or Alpharetta?
- 12:02Mark: Um, and uh or do we stay in Alpharetta?
- 12:05Mark: And uh Proverbs 3, 5, and 6 became just a a huge, you know, I grew up, you know, learning that as a kid, and I knew I've known it my whole life.
- 12:17Mark: You know, trust in the Lord.
- 12:18Mark: I know what trust is.
- 12:19Mark: Lean not on your own understanding.
- 12:20Mark: With all your heart.
- 12:21Mark: With all your heart.
- 12:22Mark: Yeah.
- 12:22Mark: With all your heart.
- 12:23Mark: Lean not on your own understanding.
- 12:24Mark: I I get that part, and then acknowledge me in all your ways.
- 12:28Mark: Um I didn't, I never understood that until one day I was talking to my sister, and I said, I I I've been just leaning into Proverbs 3, 5, and 6.
- 12:37Mark: And I said, I I get trust, I get lean not on your understanding, but acknowledge me in all your ways.
- 12:43Mark: I don't, I'm, I don't fully understand that.
- 12:44Mark: But what I do, every conversation I enter into, like in this season, I'm asking, Lord, is this from you?
- 12:51Mark: Like every commercial I watched, every song I listened, every movie, I was like, if this is from you, Lord, let it sink deep.
- 12:57Mark: And she said, That's acknowledge me in all your ways.
- 12:59Mark: And I said, Okay, that's that's awesome.
- 13:02Mark: And so I just remember praying so hard, um, Lord, is it aching?
- 13:07Mark: Is it Alpherta?
- 13:08Mark: Is it aching, is it Alphoretta?
- 13:09Mark: And um I he never I've never heard the audible voice of God, but this it it was as strong of a voice that I've ever heard.
- 13:17Mark: Okay, come on.
- 13:18Mark: And he said, Mark, I care more about the state of your heart than the state where you live.
- 13:22Mark: Yeah.
- 13:23Mark: And oh wow, that's so good.
- 13:25Mark: And I think just being able to surrender, I think one thing that you said um in the message this uh this past weekend, the the throne is never empty.
- 13:37Mark: Come on.
- 13:38Mark: Um and I just it makes me think about like your question is like what uh what are some areas that I need to surrender?
- 13:46Mark: Um and I probably there's probab finances um for me, you know, my my kids um that were they're grown, you know, they're 17 and 19, and just being able to hold them with open hands and being a parent of an adult child is difficult.
- 14:04Mark: You know, I think those are probably some places that I need to release um for myself in my life.
- 14:10Blake: That's so good.
- 14:11Blake: In fact, you know, we we always we always want Jesus as my savior.
- 14:16Blake: And when he's my savior, it means it gives me salvation, I have eternal security, I'm gonna be in heaven.
- 14:21Blake: We want the benefits of him as savior.
- 14:23Blake: But I think the way that you say, but I'm not sure I want him to be my Lord.
- 14:28Blake: Yeah.
- 14:28Blake: Because we have to do exactly what you just said, acknowledge him in all your ways.
- 14:33Blake: And if we do that, guess what happens?
- 14:35Blake: He'll direct our paths.
- 14:37Blake: Yeah.
- 14:37Blake: Right?
- 14:38Blake: He'll make our paths straight.
- 14:39Blake: We'll f we'll f know the right way to go, right?
- 14:42Blake: If you just acknowledge him in all your ways.
- 14:44Blake: Yeah.
- 14:45Blake: And so making him the Lord of your life, that like I kind of close at the end of the message with, well, what is that for you?
- 14:52Mark: Yeah.
- 14:52Blake: Is it is it that maybe you're spending way too much time binging TV?
- 14:57Blake: Come on, right?
- 14:59Blake: Is it doing doom scrolling hours on your phone?
- 15:02Blake: Is he the Lord of your life over your finances?
- 15:04Blake: Or is every penny only and always spent on yourself and your needs, right?
- 15:08Blake: And your bills and your taxes?
- 15:10Blake: And it's not like, what God, how can I give to you to your kingdom and yield my finances to you as well?
- 15:16Blake: A success, uh our reputation in today's world, everybody wants to be an influencer and a big deal and famous.
- 15:26Blake: And are you yielding that to God too?
- 15:28Blake: And just can can you be uh humble to decrease in Christ, to become less and and actually want to be, you know, walk in the humility of Christ.
- 15:40Blake: And so i I love that when we talk about the Lordship of Christ.
- 15:45Blake: We have to realize that he was the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings when he was in Bethlehem as a baby, being held by his own creation, Mary, and being nursed by his own creation.
- 15:59Blake: He was the Lord of Lord and King of Kings then.
- 16:02Blake: There was no time that he he had left heaven being worshipped by the angels.
- 16:06Blake: And so I love this passage of like helping us learn how to imitate Christ's humility.
- 16:11Blake: I kind of want to go through a lot of Philippians 2, is that okay?
- 16:14Mark: Yeah.
- 16:15Blake: And so it says, Therefore, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete.
- 16:28Blake: How?
- 16:29Blake: By being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and one mind.
- 16:36Blake: And so when you talk about the humility of God, it's it's learning to decrease, to become a servant-hearted, right?
- 16:45Blake: I learn to acknowledge him in all my ways when I get good at that.
- 16:48Blake: And that's one of the things I'm like, I want us to be united with Christ as a church, right?
- 16:53Blake: This is the B One podcast.
- 16:54Mark: Yeah.
- 16:55Blake: How can we be united with Christ?
- 16:56Blake: It's all those things.
- 16:57Blake: And then it goes on further and it gets better in verse three.
- 17:00Blake: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
- 17:03Blake: Hey, Mark, does it say do some things out of selfish ambition?
- 17:06Blake: A few things, right?
- 17:08Blake: No, nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
- 17:12Blake: Rather, here it is, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of others.
- 17:23Blake: And then it goes into how do we have the same mind of Christ?
- 17:27Blake: What does it look like to become like Christ, to acknowledge him in all our ways, right?
- 17:31Blake: As you said.
- 17:32Blake: Well, it says, in your relationship with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.
- 17:36Blake: And then it goes into this song.
- 17:38Blake: A lot of people call it a a hymn, uh Christology.
- 17:43Blake: It's like this incredible passage where it talks about the very nature of God and how he descended and then ascended, and like how God exalted him.
- 17:52Blake: And so, this to me, when you talk about him being the Lord, this is the passage.
- 17:57Mark: Okay.
- 17:58Blake: And it really explains that.
- 17:59Blake: But but with the mindset that we're get gathering and gaining his mindset.
- 18:04Blake: So if you want to be like Jesus, here it is, right?
- 18:06Blake: Here's what he did, and here's what we can do.
- 18:08Mark: Okay.
- 18:09Blake: All right, Mark?
- 18:09Mark: Okay.
- 18:10Blake: Say preach, Pastor.
- 18:11Blake: Preach.
- 18:11Blake: Who being in very nature God did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage?
- 18:21Blake: Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
- 18:29Blake: So how many of us often watch somebody do something and you think, I can do that?
- 18:35Blake: Yeah.
- 18:35Blake: Right?
- 18:36Blake: You watch a great athlete, you're watching football, like I can do that.
- 18:40Blake: I can play golf that way.
- 18:41Blake: I can hit somebody as hard.
- 18:43Blake: I could preach like Pastor Blake, you know, or which most people can.
- 18:47Blake: Right?
- 18:48Blake: And and then going, I I I want can equality with God.
- 18:52Blake: Jesus never wanted that.
- 18:53Blake: He didn't use that to his own advantage.
- 18:56Blake: Instead, he became nothing.
- 18:58Blake: The Lord of Lords and King of Kings became nothing, the very nature of a servant.
- 19:03Blake: And then it said, being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.
- 19:12Blake: Therefore, what whenever you see therefore in the passage, it makes you say, What's it there for?
- 19:18Blake: What's it therefore?
- 19:19Blake: Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place.
- 19:22Blake: Here's the exaltation of God and gave him the name that's above every name, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
- 19:39Blake: That to me is like, okay, he's the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
- 19:44Blake: In case you were wondering, that's that's the goal.
- 19:47Blake: And and our goal should be to have the same mind as him.
- 19:51Blake: And so how do we do that, Mark?
- 19:54Blake: How do you have the same mind as Christ?
- 19:57Mark: Yeah.
- 19:57Mark: Oh well, I mean, I I think about like how do you hear from the Lord?
- 20:01Mark: I've always heard, you know, through scripture, you know, through time alone with him and praying, um, and through other believers, you know.
- 20:09Mark: Um I know he can also speak through a donkey, um, but I feel like those three uh avenues are probably the main ways that you get to know the voice of the shepherd.
- 20:21Blake: Yeah, that's really good.
- 20:23Blake: Do you think of yourself as a donkey a lot?
- 20:26Blake: Uh pr uh yeah, uh quite often.
- 20:30Blake: You know, um the passage that I really preach that I feel like is the passage is Colossians one.
- 20:40Blake: And it's really talking about the supremacy of Christ.
- 20:43Blake: And so that that whole passage in in chapter one where it talks about him as the Son of God, is that it uh he's the head of the body of the church, he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
- 20:58Blake: For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood shed on the cross.
- 21:10Blake: And so I I a lot of times I love the passage later in Colossians three, it says, Christ in me is the hope of glory, right?
- 21:17Blake: The the fullness of Christ is dwelling in him so that he can dwell in us, right?
- 21:22Blake: So that idea of like, I think there's this um confusion in the church.
- 21:27Blake: Can I talk about this, Mark?
- 21:28Blake: That a lot of times we think of ourselves as lowly and I'm nothing, and a lot of church people and Christians will say, Oh, you know, and they'll take this kind of when it comes to being humble, yeah.
- 21:39Blake: Um, it's almost uh it's like false humility.
- 21:45Blake: And we talk about how I oh, I'm I'm nothing, I'm I'm not important.
- 21:51Blake: I'm and it's almost to the point of there's you you step away from the authority that Christ does have in us.
- 21:58Blake: And so there's this balance of like.
- 21:59Blake: Like, I want to have the same mind as Christ, but I also want to walk in the power, authority, and anointing of Christ.
- 22:05Blake: And so that's knowing that the fullness of God was in Christ, and He placed the fullness of Himself in us.
- 22:12Mark: That's good.
- 22:12Blake: And so we can walk in the power of God.
- 22:15Blake: Right?
- 22:15Blake: The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is alive inside of you and inside of me.
- 22:20Blake: Come on, somebody.
- 22:21Blake: And so sometimes I think we underplay and downplay the anointing and the authority that's on our life.
- 22:29Blake: And so the supremacy of Christ was is also alive inside of you.
- 22:35Blake: And so it, yes, you know, be humble, w walk with the mindset of Christ, decrease so Christ can increase, right?
- 22:43Blake: Become low and a servant of all servants at the same time.
- 22:47Blake: Recognize that when you're under attack, you aren't weak, right?
- 22:52Blake: Meekness is not weakness.
- 22:54Blake: We we walk with authority, it's power under control, like a mighty horse or a giant elephant that's you know, maybe constrained but has all the power in the world.
- 23:04Blake: And so I think there's there's something to recognize the fact that there is fullness of God inside of me, and the supremacy of God is alive in me.
- 23:12Blake: And so I love the idea and the heart behind, yes, Jesus is Lord and He is King over my life, and because of that, He's directing my paths.
- 23:22Blake: And as He's directing my paths, I'm walking in the power of His Spirit.
- 23:26Blake: So, devil, you better watch out, right?
- 23:28Blake: And so to close it with Revelation in this last week and talk about let's remember that He is my King, but He's coming back as a conquering King, and Lord of Lords and King of Kings is gonna be tattooed on His thigh.
- 23:41Blake: And there is reason to celebrate that, but also not to walk in fear.
- 23:46Blake: And I think that's the big thing when we when we talk about fear versus faith, right?
- 23:51Blake: Control and fear go together, and and all of us want to have control of our lives, or we can just say, you know what?
- 23:57Blake: I'm gonna yield to the power of the Spirit, give him complete control, and this life is gonna be a blast.
- 24:02Blake: And I'm gonna enjoy every second, I'm gonna embrace every conversation, and I'm gonna wait and and see how God's gonna move through my life and expect great things to happen, right?
- 24:12Blake: Expect, like, man, my kids are gonna be valiant warriors for the kingdom.
- 24:17Blake: Expect my staff is gonna be alive and anointed, and they're gonna love the Lord, and they're gonna be led by the Spirit, and because of that, we're gonna teach our community and the world how to be a family.
- 24:27Blake: These are things that I'll say out loud, like, Lord, this is what I'm praying for.
- 24:30Blake: And then, guess what?
- 24:33Blake: Through the power of the Holy Spirit, believing that and walking by faith, it starts to happen.
- 24:37Blake: And so, um, you know, the manifestation that everybody talks about in the world today, if you're gonna manifest that, well, you know what?
- 24:44Blake: Apart from Christ, you can't manifest, but with Christ, you better believe manifestations are gonna start happening in the spirit, right?
- 24:50Blake: People will be healed, people's marriages will be restored, people will be set free from addiction.
- 24:55Blake: And so that's the kind of manifestations that I want to say is like, because of the spirit of God, things are manifesting, right?
- 25:01Blake: And and that manifestation is happening because I'm walking by faith, not in fear, right?
- 25:06Blake: I'm walking and believing that come on, let loose, God, let loose, break open the heavens, you know, you know, allow, allow my family to be a blessing for generations.
- 25:16Blake: And you start praying these things, and man, it's you know, it's like crazy.
- 25:19Blake: God listens to us.
- 25:20Blake: Yeah and when we want the things that he wants, and we align our thoughts with his thoughts, and our mind is like Jesus, guess what?
- 25:27Blake: Then the world around is going, I want that.
- 25:29Blake: Yeah, I I need that.
- 25:30Blake: And and that I believe is why our church is growing because the spirit is loosed in our people.
- 25:36Blake: Yeah, and people, people are are led by the spirit of God, and that's what's weird.
- 25:40Mark: Yeah, right?
- 25:41Blake: Yeah, that's what our world is desperate for, is to see hope and joy and peace alive in God's people.
- 25:46Blake: Yeah.
- 25:47Blake: And so, man, I'm getting fired up.
- 25:49Blake: I started preaching here a little bit.
- 25:51Mark: So um That's good.
- 25:53Mark: I I've I've always heard, you know, uh humility is uh not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less.
- 26:02Blake: That was the perfect statement for right here.
- 26:03Blake: Yeah.
- 26:04Blake: Well, thank you.
- 26:04Blake: Do that, how did you land that?
- 26:06Mark: You just I was just waiting for you to stop talking so that I could yeah, think thinking of yourself less.
- 26:12Mark: Thinking of yourself less.
- 26:13Mark: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:14Mark: But uh, you know, I think what you just said, Jesus is king um and then versus Jesus is my king.
- 26:24Mark: Um I just you made that statement on Sunday as well.
- 26:28Mark: Um and just thinking through ways like how can we make Jesus my king, you know, this week.
- 26:35Mark: You know, what are some ways you're gonna make Jesus your king this week?
- 26:39Blake: Yeah.
- 26:39Blake: Well, you know, I I think of moments like I talked about little Eaton Joy and how we were in the pool together.
- 26:46Blake: Yeah, and it's moments like that where you're alert enough in the spirit to go, this is kind of a moment I need to really teach her and show her that you're trying to have control and you think you can go to the deep end, but girl, you're gonna drown.
- 27:00Blake: And she's she's like, Oh, when she said that, Mark, it was hilarious.
- 27:04Blake: She turns to me, she says, I can do it, honey.
- 27:07Blake: And um the truth is that it's day-to-day moments, you know.
- 27:12Blake: I've I've always said I'm not great at like mentoring somebody one-on-one, and I get to sit down for an hour and we're gonna just read the Bible together.
- 27:21Blake: But if you walk with me and I'm given moments, I call it windshield time, you know, or out on the golf course and somebody says, Hey man, I need you to know my my marriage is falling apart.
- 27:31Blake: And there's a moment like just walking down the fairway, like, talk to me about that.
- 27:35Blake: Yeah, and then being able to step into it, that's the joy of walking in the power of the spirit.
- 27:40Blake: It's like it's looking for the moments like at our staff meeting, you know, we have everybody kind of doing their updates and you know, they're kind of sharing the things they're on their plate.
- 27:49Blake: And I I like to teach teach into those and step into like, hey, can I speak into that?
- 27:53Blake: That's a moment that I think we need to talk about.
- 27:56Blake: And so the way that for our staff this week, it was like as your ministry grows, and around here, every ministry's growing, the more you try to control it and you're terrified and you're walking in fear, the harder this is gonna be.
- 28:14Blake: But the more that you say, God, I have to trust your people around me, you're gonna have to raise up an army around me, and and I'm gonna have to yield control and walk by faith and show my team how to do that.
- 28:27Blake: That's hard.
- 28:28Blake: Because it's easier to micromanage, right?
- 28:30Blake: Right.
- 28:31Blake: It's easier to you know bar bark commands, you know.
- 28:34Blake: It's like the difference between being a dictator and a positional authority versus relational authority, where you earn the voice and the trust of your people and then they want to charge the hill for you.
- 28:46Mark: Yeah.
- 28:46Blake: That's a very different feeling than you know, telling people, you know, how to do it and when to do it, and you know, not not allowing people to lead.
- 28:56Blake: And I think that's a massive problem in the church, actually, is not allowing the younger generations to have a voice when it comes to the things of God, like the uh the authority pieces of like actually preaching.
- 29:09Mark: Yeah, right.
- 29:10Blake: Actually, um around here, we I think we do a pretty good job of like we have teenagers that are running the cameras, teenagers that are uh you know, doing all the things behind the scenes, teaching the classes, playing in the band uh for our kids and students.
- 29:24Blake: Um so it's I I think the church, if we really believe Christ in me is the hope of glory, yeah, and the power and the supremacy of Christ is alive inside of God's people, then step to the side and let God's people be the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, shepherds, and teachers, right?
- 29:40Blake: And so it's a learning to yield to the control and the Holy Spirit and the authority that God places in his people and not thinking that the clergy, right, and the people that are you know on staff and paid vocational, you know, pastors uh have any more spirit, right?
- 29:58Blake: I think the spirit's the same inside of a three-year-old as inside of me, right?
- 30:03Blake: Maybe not as knowledgeable yet, but man, I I want to see the release of the gifts of the spirit inside of the body.
- 30:10Blake: Not I don't want to control that, right?
- 30:11Blake: And that's when the that's when it's a blast when you start seeing the spirit break out everywhere, right?
- 30:16Blake: You start hearing of all these amazing things that are happening.
- 30:20Mark: You do a really good job with that.
- 30:22Mark: I feel like you do a really good job of releasing it, and and it's not the way I would have done it, but you know, it's within the boundaries, you know.
- 30:31Mark: So um but I think sometimes it's like even with E the story with Eden, you know, sometimes that gets a little messy.
- 30:38Mark: You know, sometimes you're gonna take in some water, you know, you're gonna come up coughing and we're gonna have to have a conversation, we're gonna have to maybe readjust a little bit and then course correct and then set you back out, you know.
- 30:51Mark: But that's kind of I think the vulnerability of um uh of allowing just to lead with an open hand, you know.
- 31:00Blake: Yeah, it goes back to uh from the time we're little kids, I want to be in control.
- 31:04Blake: I want to be in charge, right?
- 31:06Blake: And it goes back to Genesis three.
- 31:08Blake: Because uh in the Garden of Eden, what did what did Satan say?
- 31:12Blake: I'll give you the knowledge of good and evil, and you'll be like God.
- 31:15Mark: Yeah.
- 31:16Blake: And I think that that is the indictment of our soul is I want to be like God.
- 31:21Blake: I want to be in control, I I call the shots.
- 31:25Blake: And so the more you you humble yourself and become like Christ and like take on his mind and his mindset, then we also take on the very nature of God.
- 31:37Blake: And I think that's what the word glory means.
- 31:39Blake: When you say the word glory, did you know it means like character and nature?
- 31:42Blake: That's the best way to kind of explain God's glory.
- 31:45Blake: Is like I want God's glory.
- 31:47Blake: That means that I want to take on his character and nature.
- 31:50Blake: And when you see, I think Philippians 2, that verse I read, shows you his nature, right?
- 31:54Blake: The form of a servant becoming nothing.
- 31:57Blake: Yeah.
- 31:57Blake: Right, right.
- 31:59Blake: And when we do that, God exalts you to the highest place, right?
- 32:03Blake: What does he do to the proud?
- 32:04Blake: He humbles the proud.
- 32:06Blake: What does he do to the exalts?
- 32:07Blake: He exalts who?
- 32:09Blake: The humble.
- 32:09Blake: The humble.
- 32:10Blake: And so um I I would challenge everybody listening today that ask God, ask God, where are some places where I've been really prideful?
- 32:22Blake: And where have I, you know, not willingly, but like the people of Israel, taken God and pushed him off the throne and said, I want to put a man in charge.
- 32:31Blake: And that man is either you or someone else.
- 32:34Blake: And where is it that you need to say, God, I I repent of that.
- 32:38Blake: I'm sorry for my pride and arrogance, my vanity and my selfish ambition, vacancy, all that.
- 32:43Blake: And I want to humble myself before you so you can be exalted.
- 32:47Blake: And when we do that, acknowledge him in our ways, he'll direct our paths.
- 32:51Blake: So that's my challenge for us today.
- 32:54Blake: I want to thank you for joining us at the B1 podcast.
- 32:58Blake: We love you wherever you're at, wherever you're listening.
- 33:02Blake: And uh let us know in the comments or the chat, let us know how this is helping you, maybe some ways you've been challenged.
- 33:09Blake: I always love to hear, you know, how this is impacting and influencing the culture around us, because that's really our heart in having this.
- 33:16Blake: It's not for us.
- 33:17Blake: It's a way to be a, you know, a sounding board for those that are wrestling.
- 33:22Blake: How do we walk by the Spirit?
- 33:23Blake: How do I become like Christ?
- 33:25Blake: How do I come closer to Him and through His scriptures and through conversations like this?
- 33:30Blake: And so, welcome to the conversation.
- 33:32Blake: Thank you for the dialogue.
- 33:34Blake: We love you wherever you're at.
- 33:35Blake: It's great to have you.
