- 1:49But without any further ado, let's get into
- 1:51the show.
- 1:51So this is our brand-new master topic
- 1:54this week.
- 1:54It is Series 5, Show 31, and it
- 1:57is master your choices before they master you.
- 2:00Today's granular topic is how tiny decisions shape
- 2:03your future, Series 5, Show 31, Episode 1.
- 2:08Welcome, everyone, to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 2:12I'm happy you're here.
- 2:13I am John C.
- 2:14Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:19podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 2:23Montclair State University, a passionate lifelong learner, and
- 2:26now so grateful to be a published author.
- 2:30People often believe one big decision changes a
- 2:33life.
- 2:33More often, it's hundreds of small decisions made
- 2:36every day.
- 2:37You see, your habits, character, and future are
- 2:40built one choice at a time.
- 2:42Today, I'm going to help you explore how
- 2:44tiny decisions quietly shape extraordinary lives.
- 2:48Number one, every decision has consequences.
- 2:50Every choice moves you toward or away from
- 2:55the future you want.
- 2:57Think before deciding because today's actions create tomorrow's
- 3:00results.
- 3:01That's the truth, guys.
- 3:03Number two, small choices create big results.
- 3:06Small improvements, repeated consistently, create extraordinary outcomes.
- 3:11Never, never, never, never, never underestimate the power
- 3:13of simple daily decisions.
- 3:15Number three, habits begin with one decision.
- 3:19Every positive habit starts with a single choice.
- 3:23Repeat it often enough and it becomes part
- 3:26of who you are.
- 3:28Number four, think before you react.
- 3:31Pause before responding, take a breath.
- 3:34Thoughtful decisions usually produce better outcomes than emotional
- 3:37reactions.
- 3:38Number five, consistency beats intensity.
- 3:41A little progress every day will outperform occasional
- 3:44bursts of effort.
- 3:45Stay steady and trust the process.
- 3:48Number six, choose long-term over short-term.
- 3:53Temporary comfort often costs more success.
- 3:56Make choices your future self will appreciate.
- 4:00Number seven, every action builds momentum.
- 4:04Positive actions encourage more positive actions.
- 4:08Momentum grows one decision at a time.
- 4:11Number eight, discipline starts with choices.
- 4:14Discipline isn't a talent.
- 4:16It's built every time you choose responsibility over
- 4:19convenience.
- 4:20And I know a lot of people wanna
- 4:21choose convenience because, again, it's easy and it
- 4:25feels good and comfortable.
- 4:26But we've said before that success does not
- 4:30start happening when things are comfortable.
- 4:32It happens when we become uncomfortable.
- 4:35I didn't say painful, I said uncomfortable.
- 4:37Number nine, guys, protect your priorities.
- 4:40Don't let distractions steal your best time.
- 4:43Focus on what truly matters.
- 4:44Success is built daily.
- 4:47Yeah, success isn't an event.
- 4:49It's the result of consistent decisions repeated every
- 4:53day.
- 4:54That's important, guys.
- 4:56Learn from every decision.
- 4:58Good decisions bring results.
- 5:01Poor decisions, well, bring lessons that hopefully we
- 5:05learn.
- 5:05Both help us grow.
- 5:08However, the lessons are not as pleasant of
- 5:11a situation, okay?
- 5:13And I know a lot of you are
- 5:14saying, John, you know, this is kind of
- 5:16crazy, I don't get it.
- 5:17Well, see, when we don't get a lesson,
- 5:21we keep repeating it over and over and
- 5:23over again.
- 5:24I think that's a very important thing that
- 5:27we keep repeating it over and over again.
- 5:29Because if we don't learn it, we have
- 5:31to eventually learn it, right?
- 5:33Number 12, avoid unnecessary distractions.
- 5:35I know that's easier said than done.
- 5:37You know, the sip of the water.
- 5:40Not every thing deserves your attention.
- 5:46Protect your focus by eliminating what adds little
- 5:49value.
- 5:50Number 13, build better routines.
- 5:54Strong routines reduce wasted energy and make success
- 5:58easier to repeat.
- 6:01Number 14, focus on progress.
- 6:04Don't chase perfection.
- 6:06Celebrate becoming a little better each day.
- 6:09Number 15, keep your promises, okay?
- 6:12Keeping promises to yourself builds confidence and strengthens
- 6:17self-respect.
- 6:19I think a lot of people out today
- 6:21wanna be respectful, but somehow they fall off
- 6:25the wagon.
- 6:25They feel that maybe they should do something
- 6:27else because they don't see things moving quick
- 6:31enough, okay?
- 6:35And that's really, I think, an important thing.
- 6:37When people don't realize that things are happening
- 6:40quick enough for them, they don't understand, like,
- 6:43what's going on.
- 6:45And it's big.
- 6:50But most people don't take the time to
- 6:54understand what these things mean.
- 6:56They go for what the masses are doing.
- 6:59But we've learned in the past that what
- 7:01the masses are doing isn't always right for
- 7:04them and it isn't always right for us.
- 7:06So I think those are very, very important
- 7:09things.
- 7:12I'll tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that when
- 7:15we get that strength and we build that
- 7:18self-respect, we move the needle in our
- 7:21lives.
- 7:22People are like, hey, you're somebody I wanna
- 7:24talk with.
- 7:25You're somebody I wanna be part of in
- 7:27your life, right?
- 7:28People that see those who make changes, they
- 7:32wanna latch onto them.
- 7:33They wanna get to know them.
- 7:35Some in a good way.
- 7:37Some wanna help those people and others just
- 7:39wanna leech and not do anything.
- 7:42So I think when we talk about tiny
- 7:45decisions in our life, that can be something
- 7:47simple as, you know, getting up in the
- 7:49morning, right?
- 7:50What time you get up.
- 7:52I think those are very important things, okay?
- 8:01It could be something as simple as what
- 8:03you choose to eat.
- 8:05Okay?
- 8:05I think that's a very important thing.
- 8:13And maybe you're gonna say to me, you
- 8:15know, John, well, if I make one decision,
- 8:19what does it matter?
- 8:23Okay?
- 8:26I think these are important things.
- 8:29And when we start to understand that we
- 8:31make these small decisions, that we're able to
- 8:37change the direction.
- 8:40You know what I like to think about
- 8:41this as, if you think about potentiometer, right?
- 8:44And if you have a potentiometer, let's say
- 8:47on a laser, or you have a potentiometer
- 8:51on maybe something that's very precise, and you
- 8:55turn that potentiometer just a tiny, even a
- 8:58fraction, it makes a big move on that
- 9:01device's output.
- 9:04Now we say a tiny, like a fraction
- 9:06turn, quarter of a turn, a fraction of
- 9:07a turn.
- 9:09That little difference makes a difference.
- 9:12Now we see it almost immediately.
- 9:14In our lives, when we make tiny changes,
- 9:17they don't show up right away.
- 9:19But when our life starts to feel good,
- 9:22it starts to feel like, hey, I'm on
- 9:23the right path, that's a good sign that
- 9:26you're doing the right thing.
- 9:27Now, I know a lot of people out
- 9:29there, they get discouraged because things are not
- 9:31working the way they want them to.
- 9:36Okay?
- 9:40That's a challenge for people because they don't
- 9:43think that they can go anywhere.
- 9:46But I'm here to tell you that you
- 9:47can go a lot of places if you
- 9:49make tiny changes.
- 9:50So what are the tiny changes could you
- 9:51make?
- 9:51So you could make things like what you
- 9:53eat, you can make decisions on what you're
- 9:56gonna do.
- 9:56For example, you got up today, you're in
- 10:00business, maybe you work for yourself, maybe you
- 10:01work for a company, what are you gonna
- 10:02do first in the morning?
- 10:04You have a good breakfast, maybe you exercise
- 10:06first, then you have a good breakfast, take
- 10:08a shower, maybe you take a walk, right?
- 10:12Maybe you decide that your office or you're
- 10:16meeting a client maybe the tiny move is
- 10:19saying, hey, really appreciate working with you.
- 10:23And just wondering what two or three other
- 10:27people you think would benefit from the services
- 10:29we've provided you all these years, I would
- 10:31appreciate that.
- 10:33That's the stick, guys.
- 10:35When you can get a connection, I was
- 10:37talking to somebody the other day, people love
- 10:40to connect when there are stories.
- 10:44There was a guy one time and he
- 10:46said, when you're someone you wanna make a
- 10:48friend, you basically start out and say, hey,
- 10:52anybody sitting here?
- 10:53No one's sitting.
- 10:54Oh, great, what brought you to this wedding
- 10:55or what brought you to this event?
- 10:59And people will start talking, just you shut
- 11:02up, okay?
- 11:03They will start talking.
- 11:04The people that don't wanna tell you their
- 11:07story, I had somebody the other day, I
- 11:11shared a little bit, they shared a little
- 11:12bit, but the one person didn't share much.
- 11:18They either meant A, they weren't comfortable, that
- 11:19wasn't the key, or B, they were trying
- 11:23to push me somewhere and they were nervous
- 11:26about doing it, so they stayed quiet, okay?
- 11:32I had the same person actually ask me
- 11:35for feedback on basically, well, actually they asked
- 11:39me, what did you think of my presentation?
- 11:42And what I should have said is, do
- 11:45you want encouragement or do you actually want
- 11:49me to give you some constructive feedback and
- 11:51notes?
- 11:53So I took the premise that they wanna
- 11:55constructive feedback because most people asking do.
- 11:58When I started giving the premise of what
- 12:00they could do, I was getting attacked.
- 12:03So from now on, when somebody asks me
- 12:05for how'd I do, I say, well, are
- 12:09you looking for just some encouragement or do
- 12:13you actually want me to give you honest
- 12:15notes of what you could do to improve?
- 12:19And some people are gonna freeze in that
- 12:21moment.
- 12:23Well, I guess encouragement, but then what didn't
- 12:27you like about it?
- 12:28Well, it wasn't that I didn't like anything
- 12:30about it, it was that I thought it
- 12:31could have been, let's say better if you
- 12:35did this and this.
- 12:37And as soon as I started to give
- 12:39a little bit of my feedback, nothing crazy,
- 12:41just a few little things, I got attacked.
- 12:44Well, you obviously weren't listening.
- 12:48Well, I was listening.
- 12:50And what I heard and what I saw
- 12:51was this, and I'm telling you how it
- 12:53made me feel.
- 12:54Now you don't have to take my advice,
- 12:56professional speaker and keynote author, I'm telling you
- 13:00how people respond.
- 13:04Number 16, guys, stay intentional.
- 13:06I can't say this enough.
- 13:08Choose your actions with purpose instead of reacting
- 13:11to whatever comes your way.
- 13:13Intentional decisions create intentional results, that's key.
- 13:17And so when we live an intentional life,
- 13:20the pieces come together better, okay?
- 13:27I think those are important things that a
- 13:30lot of us don't understand, okay?
- 13:36I think sometimes people don't know what that
- 13:40means.
- 13:41I think sometimes people say, hey, this is
- 13:44great.
- 13:45But I think another time people say, this
- 13:48isn't where we're going.
- 13:50We're trying to figure out what's the right
- 13:53path in our life.
- 13:55And sometimes people will say, hey, I wanna
- 13:57be here, but then they aren't, okay?
- 14:06I can tell you that a lot of
- 14:11times in life, people go for the easy.
- 14:15They'll say things like, do you know who
- 14:18I am?
- 14:19Why don't we just let our actions speak
- 14:21for it?
- 14:23You're lucky I even helped you.
- 14:25No, I'm here because I wanna do the
- 14:30right thing, whether somebody is watching or not.
- 14:33I'm better than everyone here.
- 14:35No, I focus on helping myself become a
- 14:39better version of myself and helping others that
- 14:40wanna become better.
- 14:42I told you so.
- 14:44Let's learn from this and move forward.
- 14:49I'm always right.
- 14:51I may not always be right.
- 14:53I'm open to other perspectives and I'm always
- 14:55here to learn.
- 14:57They should be grateful for me and what
- 14:59I did.
- 15:00No, I lead with humility and not expectations.
- 15:05Okay, that's important.
- 15:08I don't care what others think.
- 15:12I respect people's opinions.
- 15:14It doesn't mean I have to agree with
- 15:15them, okay?
- 15:16Number 17, value your time.
- 15:19Time is your most valuable resource and asset.
- 15:22Spend it on, it helps you grow instead
- 15:24of what simply keeps you busy.
- 15:26A lot of people I know, they wanna
- 15:28just stay busy, but they don't wanna actually
- 15:30improve their time.
- 15:31Number 18, invest in yourself.
- 15:34The more you learn and improve, the greater
- 15:37your opportunities become.
- 15:39You are your best investment, okay?
- 15:43Number 19, think before acting.
- 15:47A few extra moments of thought can prevent
- 15:49hours of regret.
- 15:52Wise decisions begin with careful thinking.
- 15:55Own your decisions, accept responsibility for your choices.
- 16:01Accountability gives you the power to improve.
- 16:04Instead of making excuses.
- 16:10And I think what we all wanna do
- 16:12is we all want to improve.
- 16:18We all wanna improve.
- 16:20Not because we have to, but because we
- 16:22want to.
- 16:29I think sometimes people give the wrong vibe.
- 16:38People that appear to be genuine aren't, okay?
- 16:46And is it because they wanna be ungenuine?
- 16:49I don't think that's the reason, okay?
- 17:01I think it comes down to the fact
- 17:04that some people don't understand.
- 17:05Some people realize that they're the most important
- 17:08thing, but they're not, okay?
- 17:19I think a lot of times we're looking
- 17:22for an answer, but we don't have it.
- 17:27So we try to create what we think
- 17:30makes sense, but sometimes we're wrong.
- 17:34Sometimes we're wrong.
- 17:35And we have to admit that maybe we're
- 17:39not right.
- 17:41I know I was younger, that was the
- 17:42hardest thing to do, but now I'm realizing
- 17:44if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
- 17:46But I'm happy to share.
- 17:51I'm happy to be humble, okay?
- 17:56I think that's an important thing to understand.
- 18:00I think we need to understand the hardest
- 18:03thing, which is to be intentional in every
- 18:06step in our lives.
- 18:07Okay?
- 18:08To be intentional with every step in our
- 18:10life.
- 18:10And I think that's a very important thing.
- 18:14And hopefully you can appreciate where that comes
- 18:18from.
- 18:19Number 21, please build self-discipline.
- 18:21Discipline is strengthened every time you choose what
- 18:23matters most over what feels easiest or simplest,
- 18:27right, or convenient.
- 18:30Number 22, please stay accountable.
- 18:33Review your progress.
- 18:36Honestly, accountability helps you stay focused and continue
- 18:39on your journey to help you move forward.
- 18:43And I know sometimes you may not be
- 18:46where you wanna be, but it's not a
- 18:48time to say, oh my gosh, I didn't
- 18:50get where I wanted to be.
- 18:51It's time to say, well, how can I
- 18:53improve?
- 18:58I think that's a very important thing, but
- 19:01a lot of people don't appreciate that, right?
- 19:06They care about themselves.
- 19:08Now, you might think you're the most important
- 19:11thing.
- 19:12I'm not.
- 19:13So to someone else, I'm not the most
- 19:15important thing.
- 19:15They are.
- 19:17Let the other person talk.
- 19:19Let the other person tell their story and
- 19:22shut up.
- 19:25That's the most important thing I can tell
- 19:27you.
- 19:29Very important.
- 19:32Make wise choices.
- 19:34That's important, right?
- 19:38Very important.
- 19:39But some people don't do it.
- 19:44Why?
- 19:49I think people are looking for another answer.
- 19:52People are looking for a shortcut.
- 19:54So they said, oh, I'll just do this
- 19:56instead.
- 19:57Choose action that supports your values, your core
- 19:59values, your goals in the future that you
- 20:02wanna create and manifest.
- 20:05Number 24, keep improving, guys.
- 20:09Never become satisfied with standing still.
- 20:11Small improvements each day create remarkable progress.
- 20:15Number 25, growth follows action.
- 20:18Growth begins the moment you take action.
- 20:20Every positive step creates another opportunity to improve.
- 20:25That's key.
- 20:26Number 26, stay committed.
- 20:28Motivation comes and it goes, right?
- 20:32But commitment keeps you moving if you have
- 20:36discipline.
- 20:37Continue even when progress feels slow.
- 20:40Do it anyway.
- 20:43Now, there are times I've had this happen
- 20:45too.
- 20:45Maybe you're having a long track and maybe
- 20:49you can't do exercises one night or two.
- 20:51No problem.
- 20:52Get back on the track when you feel
- 20:53ready.
- 20:54Okay, maybe it's a day or two off.
- 20:56Don't chastise yourself.
- 20:58Maybe you did a lot of exercise or
- 20:59running that day.
- 21:01Don't burn yourself out by having to force
- 21:04yourself to exercise.
- 21:05Go to bed, that rest is more important.
- 21:06Number 27, success is earned, it's not given.
- 21:09Success is built through preparation, consistency, and countless
- 21:13wise decisions repeat over time.
- 21:16And number 28, guys, build your future today.
- 21:20Your future isn't created someday.
- 21:22It's created by the choices you make before
- 21:24today ends.
- 21:27Your choices today affect where you're going tomorrow,
- 21:36okay?
- 21:36I think that's an important thing to understand.
- 21:42Number 29, every decision matters.
- 21:46No choice is too small to matter.
- 21:49Daily decisions eventually become your habits, your character,
- 21:53and your life.
- 21:55Number 30, your future reflects today's choices.
- 22:01The life you live tomorrow is built by
- 22:04decisions you make today.
- 22:06The life you have today is because of
- 22:08decisions you made yesterday, the days before.
- 22:11Choose wisely because your future is watching, and
- 22:16so is the universe.
- 22:18And the life you get may not be
- 22:20the life you want.
- 22:22You get the life that you are, the
- 22:24life that you act.
- 22:26As we begin together this new series this
- 22:29week, remember that extraordinary lives aren't created through
- 22:33one remarkable moment.
- 22:34No, guys.
- 22:35They are built through thousands of small decisions
- 22:39made with purpose and consistency.
- 22:45What'd I tell you you need?
- 22:46Structure and consistency are what you need for
- 22:48success.
- 22:49Every choice is an opportunity to become a
- 22:53little stronger than you were before, wiser, closer
- 22:55to the future you want.
- 22:58That's important, guys.
- 23:00I thank you so much for joining me
- 23:02for another amazing episode of Inspirations For Your
- 23:05Life.
- 23:06If you don't know me by now, I'm
- 23:08John C.
- 23:09Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 23:15podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 23:20Montclair State University, passionate lifelong learner, and so
- 23:24grateful now to be a published author.
- 23:27Until next time, ladies and gentlemen, I ask
- 23:31you and I invite you to choose wisely,
- 23:35to stay intentional with everything you do, to
- 23:39keep growing, and remember that the smallest decisions
- 23:41you make today have the power to shape
- 23:44the biggest opportunities you'll experience tomorrow.
- 23:49And I know that's hard for a lot
- 23:51of people to breathe and to, let's say,
- 23:55process because it seems like gibberish, but it's
- 23:59not.
- 24:00Our small steps create our success.
- 24:06Success didn't happen from one big action we
- 24:09took.
- 24:10It happened from an accumulation of efforts and
- 24:16steps, a sum, a compoundingness of our efforts,
- 24:22similar to compoundingness of a bank account, right?
- 24:25I also wanna invite everyone here to understand
- 24:28this is not something you just do today.
- 24:32It's not something you just do when your
- 24:33day isn't going well.
- 24:35It's something you live, breathe, and act every
- 24:38single day of your life.
- 24:41So that means it's based on discipline.
- 24:45It's not based on anything else.
- 24:47It's based on discipline.
- 24:49And that discipline is coming from your own
- 24:53core values.
- 24:54People ask this all the time, John, my
- 24:56core values, they're changing.
- 24:57Well, they might change once or twice, like
- 24:59when you're younger and you get older and
- 25:00then they might adopt again, but the core
- 25:03should stay there, okay?
- 25:05Sometimes things drop out of your life that
- 25:06don't make sense anymore.
- 25:08And that's fine, that's growing.
- 25:10The core values you had when you were
- 25:12six or seven are probably not the same
- 25:14core values you have now when you're older.
- 25:17It's not bad, it's growing.
- 25:22And I think when we know we're growing,
- 25:24it gets scared.
- 25:25Most people are fearful of being a failure.
- 25:31You know what a lot of people are
- 25:32fearful of?
- 25:33I know you're gonna laugh at this, becoming
- 25:35a success.
- 25:37Oh my gosh, my life's gonna change.
- 25:38Like, what do I do?
- 25:39How does this happen?
- 25:40How does this work?
- 25:43That's the truth, guys.
- 25:47People think they can operate their life like
- 25:52a show.
- 25:54Well, today I don't wanna run the show.
- 25:58Or today I don't wanna suit up and
- 26:00be ready for clients.
- 26:01Or I don't wanna have that great attitude.
- 26:04I'm having a lousy day, so I'm not
- 26:06gonna be friendly to people.
- 26:08Well, that's not gonna get you anywhere, guys.
- 26:10In fact, you know what it's gonna do?
- 26:11It's gonna get you in more trouble.
- 26:14I ask those gentlemen to keep building your
- 26:16future one choice at a time.
- 26:19And I know one choice doesn't seem like
- 26:21much in our lives, but one thought is
- 26:26all it takes.
- 26:27One thought that could get us to take
- 26:31inspired action.
- 26:32Inspired action that allows us to make a
- 26:37difference in our own lives and people's lives.
- 26:42When you interact with people every day, whether
- 26:46it's personal relationships, networking, business, whatever it is,
- 26:51the most important thing is for you to
- 26:55be genuinely interested in their story.
- 26:58Not because you have to, but because you
- 27:01want to.
- 27:01Dale Carnegie said this a while back, and
- 27:04I took one of his courses many years
- 27:05ago.
- 27:06When we strive to become genuinely interested in
- 27:09another person, the person naturally becomes interested in
- 27:14us.
- 27:14The first thing we have to do, and
- 27:16I've said this many times, learn how to
- 27:18say their name correctly.
- 27:20And if you don't know how to say
- 27:21their name, that looks like a beautiful name.
- 27:24I'm gonna botch it up.
- 27:26Well, just try.
- 27:28And then they'll try to help you.
- 27:33When people know you're taking an effort to
- 27:35learn how to say their name, oh my
- 27:37gosh, that's a very big level of respect.
- 27:41I know some people that just take liberty
- 27:43to call you different things.
- 27:45Like my name is John.
- 27:46Some people just say, you know, Johnny.
- 27:48And only my family calls me that, a
- 27:50few people.
- 27:52So that doesn't give people liberty to just
- 27:54change your name or call you whatever they
- 27:56want.
- 27:56I hope you guys have a great rest
- 27:57of your evening or day.
- 27:59And please check out BelieveMeAchieved.com for more
- 28:01of my amazing, inspiring creations.
- 28:03Make the tiny decisions carefully.
- 28:05Be mindful of them.
- 28:05Take care, everyone.
