- 0:06Speaker 1: Welcome to the No Dribble Summer Series. We're not actually
- 0:09Speaker 1: here because we're having a well earned not that well earned,
- 0:12Speaker 1: but a break. Anyway. Where are you?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Cat Well, I've got butt sweat at the moment. It's hot.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I think I need a cocktail it is. Where's my poor.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Boy, Lizzie? You're off somewhere.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Where are you? I'm sorry, justin Tazzy drinking so much
- 0:27Speaker 3: local whiskey that'll probably see a Tasmanian tiger and forget
- 0:31Speaker 3: what I'm about to say.
- 0:32Speaker 1: This is the No Dribble Summer Series.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Enjoy, guys, Hello.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And welcome to the No Dribble Summer Series. No, you
- 0:43Speaker 1: know how this goes. I'm Herolyn SWINDEO, but I'm not
- 0:46Speaker 1: really here. I have checked out. I have gone on holidays.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Someone else who has gone on holidays Catcox, and someone
- 0:52Speaker 1: else in the far North Coast to you know, when
- 0:54Speaker 1: she's not working super hard, is always on holidays?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Is that would be zealous?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:59Speaker 3: This holiday?
- 1:00Speaker 4: You speak of that?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Well, you live in a holiday destination, don't you. So
- 1:05Speaker 1: we've got someone who I don't think ever sleeps. Frankly,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'm so excited about our special guest.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Today.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It is your special guests. This person is an extraordinary overachiever. Yeah,
- 1:19Speaker 1: so I'll start you with some clues that probably won't
- 1:22Speaker 1: help you that much, Catherine, but I think are very interesting.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Our guest is a pisces.
- 1:27Speaker 2: No, these that bit never helps.
- 1:29Speaker 1: No, it never helps. And if you don't know these things,
- 1:32Speaker 1: cause I always have to look it up. It that's
- 1:33Speaker 1: a February birthday, everybody. This person is one hundred and
- 1:37Speaker 1: seventy one centimeters tall.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Oh shorter than Georgie Horges.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Okay, shorter than Georgia Gorges. Still quite tall, though. This
- 1:46Speaker 1: person has an illustrious career in netball. That won't surprise you.
- 1:51Speaker 1: That's not really a clue because most of our guests
- 1:53Speaker 1: have great careers in netball. But this one is on
- 1:57Speaker 1: and off court. During the on call part of this
- 2:01Speaker 1: extraordinary overachiever's time, they played center or wing attack.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It sounds briny Aklish.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah, certain, Okay. This person is a fellow Brisney Lander.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Oh no, it's not what it is.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Okay. This person played netball for the Firebirds, the Orioles
- 2:20Speaker 1: and the West Coast Fever.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yes, keep talking.
- 2:24Speaker 1: In fact, if you went over to West Coast Fever headquarters.
- 2:27Speaker 1: You would see this person's name absolutely everywhere because not
- 2:32Speaker 1: only did they captain No, that might be wrong, they
- 2:36Speaker 1: played for the Fever. We'll get that corrected in a moment.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I may have captained there, but also then went on
- 2:41Speaker 1: to head coach the West Coast Fever and led them
- 2:44Speaker 1: to their first Grand Final win in twenty eighteen.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Oh okay, we're getting there from there.
- 2:50Speaker 1: This person was the twenty eighteen Joyce Brown Coach of
- 2:53Speaker 1: the Year and since twenty twenty this person has been
- 2:58Speaker 1: the coach of the extraordinarily successful Australian time. I'm so there,
- 3:02Speaker 1: all right, I'm going to give you the one we
- 3:04Speaker 1: know where. This is the one. So were you to
- 3:07Speaker 1: go to the bar for this person to buy them
- 3:10Speaker 1: a drink or have a guy?
- 3:11Speaker 2: Well, I reckon it because it's super rare. Yeah it's
- 3:15Speaker 2: Scotch and something.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Scotch and dry.
- 3:19Speaker 2: There you go, Stacey, Marinka Marinkovich. Welcome, Yeah, welcome Stace.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Now are you a Bogan trucker on the side?
- 3:30Speaker 4: What Scotch and dry Bogan track troller? No, but I
- 3:37Speaker 4: think the garbage straggling is just arrived outside.
- 3:39Speaker 3: My dog, my Bogan tracker, Catherine, I don't know.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I feel like someone that drinks, like like any hard
- 3:45Speaker 2: liquor just for fun. Is I don't know. Is this
- 3:49Speaker 2: a stretch? It's not bad other than comfort.
- 3:51Speaker 3: I don't know. I reckon. I feel like Stacey. I
- 3:54Speaker 3: know you're our guess, so we will let you talk
- 3:55Speaker 3: at sometime at the next twenty minutes. But I feel
- 3:58Speaker 3: like I feel like Scotch and dry is a bit
- 4:01Speaker 3: refiners for the more mature palette, like if it's if
- 4:05Speaker 3: it's scotch and dry and a bit of mixer can,
- 4:08Speaker 3: Like if it was scotch and cocine a mixer can,
- 4:10Speaker 3: then I get it. But Scotch and dry is a
- 4:12Speaker 3: bit sort of you know. The only thing more refined
- 4:14Speaker 3: is just scotch on the rock.
- 4:17Speaker 1: A big whiskey fan. So I'm thinking I'd like to
- 4:19Speaker 1: go to Glasgow with you later this year, next year?
- 4:22Speaker 2: What year is it? This year?
- 4:24Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 4:25Speaker 2: What twenty twenty five?
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, let's just question, we're busy, when are we
- 4:29Speaker 1: going to Glasgow?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Well, she doesn't have a bottle of bean with a
- 4:33Speaker 2: straw in it the case, so we've just clarified that.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Gotcha's more sophisticated than the bourbon and the rum. I reckon,
- 4:38Speaker 4: I'm a couple of steps up.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Okay, well, welcome to you anyway, regardless of your drink
- 4:44Speaker 2: of choice. How funny that I knew what it was though,
- 4:46Speaker 2: And I've got to say everybody listening. I stupidly text
- 4:50Speaker 2: Stacey just after Constellation Cup and said, I hope you're
- 4:54Speaker 2: enjoying some downtime. We'd love to have you on the podcast,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and she's like, downtime, what's that? I am doing reviews.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I am moving on to next year, so tell us
- 5:04Speaker 2: about what's going on in between then and what's coming
- 5:07Speaker 2: up States, because you are so hectic.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And has your heart rate returned to normal?
- 5:11Speaker 4: Yeah? I think the big thing for us right now
- 5:15Speaker 4: is getting the review while it's all fresh of mine.
- 5:17Speaker 4: So I guess the high performance team is still working through.
- 5:21Speaker 4: You know, you get back to the home and you've
- 5:22Speaker 4: got back into normal life like school, draft of making dinners,
- 5:26Speaker 4: school lunches, all that sort of thing. But then once
- 5:29Speaker 4: you get back into your routine, it's then sitting down
- 5:32Speaker 4: and go, well, what did we just experience? Because there
- 5:35Speaker 4: was a hell of a lot that happened over the
- 5:37Speaker 4: two series, and we want to make sure that we
- 5:39Speaker 4: capture everything that we possibly can because we've got a
- 5:42Speaker 4: great opportunity in January bring the girls together again and
- 5:46Speaker 4: it's the last opportunity to really fine tune, refine, make
- 5:50Speaker 4: sure that we've got all our bases covered going into
- 5:52Speaker 4: the final selection for the Commonwealth Game. So quite heavy
- 5:56Speaker 4: in November, and then I think when school sort of
- 5:59Speaker 4: breaks up, that's when the high performance staff or really
- 6:02Speaker 4: get some family time and refresh ready for January camp.
- 6:06Speaker 2: You talk about final selection, what's the timelines with all
- 6:09Speaker 2: of that stuff ahead of the Common Games team being chosen.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Yeah, we're just working through that at the moment. It's
- 6:14Speaker 4: a little bit different to just a normal selection. We
- 6:16Speaker 4: have to actually submit a team to the Commonwealth Games Committee,
- 6:20Speaker 4: so they're sort of giving us their timeline, but it'll
- 6:23Speaker 4: be towards the end of the SSN rounds that will
- 6:26Speaker 4: have to submit the team. But when we notify when
- 6:29Speaker 4: we can call players or that sort of playing out
- 6:31Speaker 4: at the moment as the policies and procedures and all
- 6:34Speaker 4: that sort of thing are being refined and established in
- 6:37Speaker 4: collaboration with comm Games.
- 6:39Speaker 1: How many can you take?
- 6:41Speaker 4: We can take twelve players and three reserves. So they've
- 6:44Speaker 4: definitely made the call that the three reserves can't be
- 6:48Speaker 4: interchangeable at any point. So if you have a competition
- 6:52Speaker 4: ending injury, if someone does their ACL or there's major
- 6:55Speaker 4: illness or something like that, you can't change like what
- 6:58Speaker 4: we could do in the World Cup. Those three players
- 7:01Speaker 4: probably have one of the hardest roles because there is
- 7:04Speaker 4: no avenue for them to actually come into the twelve.
- 7:07Speaker 4: But their role that they play with us is massive
- 7:10Speaker 4: in terms of our preparation and training and pushing the girls.
- 7:15Speaker 4: You know in the lead up to.
- 7:16Speaker 3: That, You're so right, that is the hardest role in
- 7:19Speaker 3: terms of being one of those three. And when I
- 7:21Speaker 3: think back to campaigns that I was involved with as
- 7:23Speaker 3: a player, the moment you finish your last training session
- 7:27Speaker 3: before the opening ceremony, you're like, right, because it's the
- 7:30Speaker 3: opening ceremony, that is that's like the starting point of
- 7:32Speaker 3: the games. And so as long as you get to that,
- 7:34Speaker 3: you're okay. And of course you want to get there,
- 7:36Speaker 3: you want to play and you want to win. But
- 7:38Speaker 3: to have that moment where you get through your last
- 7:39Speaker 3: session and you're like, oh, I could take a big
- 7:42Speaker 3: deep breath now because I'm there. But then you really
- 7:44Speaker 3: do feel for those athletes to go over and do
- 7:46Speaker 3: all the hard work, and you know they're not wishing
- 7:50Speaker 3: for someone to get injured, but they also know that
- 7:52Speaker 3: it's the only way they get their opportunity. So how
- 7:54Speaker 3: do you, Stacy, how do you, I guess, ensure the
- 7:57Speaker 3: well being of those three reserves because the well being
- 8:01Speaker 3: work that gets done now across the entire ecosystem by
- 8:04Speaker 3: Nebot Australia and you and the players Association is so
- 8:08Speaker 3: much better than.
- 8:11Speaker 4: It used to be.
- 8:12Speaker 3: So can you just talk us through what that looks
- 8:13Speaker 3: like that what I was playing the world being was see, yeah,
- 8:17Speaker 3: you're right, okay, bye, thanks.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I think one we've even taken more steps from
- 8:24Speaker 4: our last com games. So last Con games it was
- 8:27Speaker 4: very much you know, we sat down with players, we
- 8:30Speaker 4: spoke about what the role entailed, went through the entire schedule,
- 8:33Speaker 4: what would their training look like when we're their start
- 8:36Speaker 4: and finish points, and I guess gave them an opportunity
- 8:40Speaker 4: in space within the program to have those emotional moments
- 8:44Speaker 4: as well. So it was it was to actually acknowledge
- 8:47Speaker 4: and I think the rest of the team did that
- 8:49Speaker 4: because of the whole scored mentality is that it was
- 8:52Speaker 4: a critical role for us, but a bloody hard one,
- 8:55Speaker 4: and it's only human nature that at some point it
- 8:59Speaker 4: gets tough, gets really hard to just keep rolling around
- 9:02Speaker 4: to train with no end point. So that was certainly
- 9:06Speaker 4: something that we'd I guess spoken about prepared for, but
- 9:10Speaker 4: until you're actually in it, you don't know how players
- 9:12Speaker 4: are going to respond. And I think to the credit
- 9:15Speaker 4: that the players that we had in the last Markie events,
- 9:18Speaker 4: they were incredible and they'd sort of done the work
- 9:21Speaker 4: with their well banned leads at their clubs as to
- 9:23Speaker 4: how they did it. They also made sure they had
- 9:26Speaker 4: this support networks their families around them so that they
- 9:29Speaker 4: could connect in with them, and I guess it's making
- 9:31Speaker 4: sure that we just made the environment one that they
- 9:34Speaker 4: really felt that they belonged in. In that side, this
- 9:37Speaker 4: next Conwell's Games, we've got another layer to what we
- 9:40Speaker 4: do have our performance psychologists and wellbeing lead that has
- 9:44Speaker 4: just recently traveled with us in the last tournament, So
- 9:47Speaker 4: it was really to see what that new resource could
- 9:51Speaker 4: bring to the program, because, as you said, like as
- 9:53Speaker 4: each tournament comes around, the girls are thrashing it out
- 9:58Speaker 4: in SSN. It's becoming que demanding mentally physically. Programs are
- 10:03Speaker 4: getting longer, the demands are getting higher. Obviously, the pressure
- 10:07Speaker 4: around international netball is at its peak at the moment.
- 10:11Speaker 4: There's small margins and all the top teams where we're
- 10:13Speaker 4: winning and losing against each other. So you know, we
- 10:16Speaker 4: wanted to see what we could do in terms of
- 10:18Speaker 4: gain a competitive advantage or provide better support to the
- 10:22Speaker 4: players and also to the stuff. So we've got our
- 10:26Speaker 4: performance site and then they'll help maybe with a different
- 10:29Speaker 4: lead into this Comonwealth Games to better support those three players,
- 10:33Speaker 4: but also the team going into what's going to be
- 10:37Speaker 4: a really big, big two years.
- 10:39Speaker 3: When you look at the twenty twenty three World Cup,
- 10:41Speaker 3: the reserves for that with Danelle Wallam, Ruby bak Ordor
- 10:46Speaker 3: and Kate Maloney, and now Kate Maloney's a vice captain,
- 10:49Speaker 3: So you know, I think if you're if you're a
- 10:52Speaker 3: player who's picked as a reserve, you might I mean
- 10:54Speaker 3: it's really hard to sort of to get over that disappointment,
- 10:57Speaker 3: but you know you can. You can look at someone
- 10:59Speaker 3: like millenniy and go, well, look at what she's done
- 11:02Speaker 3: in the intervening period. Since that twenty twenty three World Cup,
- 11:05Speaker 3: she's been extraordinary and her game has gone to a
- 11:07Speaker 3: new level.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think that's the thing. There's a lot
- 11:10Speaker 4: of talk about the age of the athletes, but some
- 11:13Speaker 4: of our experience are playing the best they've ever played.
- 11:17Speaker 4: And I think this is the part where high performance systems,
- 11:21Speaker 4: the resources around the so called super netball clubs, what
- 11:25Speaker 4: the Diamonds is providing, what the Players Association provides it,
- 11:28Speaker 4: it's giving longevity to players. They're able to really understand
- 11:31Speaker 4: their bodies. Programs are heavily individualized. The loading is monitored
- 11:36Speaker 4: to the ns degree, so always talking to SMC coach
- 11:39Speaker 4: and your medical stuff. Can I can have another ten minutes?
- 11:41Speaker 4: Can we work this a little bit more?
- 11:44Speaker 2: God, I wish that was around when we were athletes.
- 12:03Speaker 4: I think we've had many past players come in and
- 12:06Speaker 4: talk to the girls and from the programs that used
- 12:09Speaker 4: to be to what they are now. I think there
- 12:12Speaker 4: was one story that, uh, you know, one one era
- 12:15Speaker 4: of players hadn't played particularly well, turned up to training
- 12:18Speaker 4: next day and they were now weren't allowed any water.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Now girls just sort of sat there and going, hang on.
- 12:24Speaker 4: We've got you know, our hydralight, our power aid, our water,
- 12:27Speaker 4: our snacks and all this and this pass playing my day,
- 12:31Speaker 4: you would have died of dehydration. Dehydration.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Have you thought about introducing gas masks into the training regime?
- 12:38Speaker 4: I understand.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Popular funny thing.
- 12:42Speaker 4: I think normal plumber or there was a coach back
- 12:45Speaker 4: in the fever days we had a camp and they
- 12:47Speaker 4: put the gas mask on to restrict the reading. To
- 12:50Speaker 4: get that we did boot camps.
- 12:53Speaker 2: We did it whilst we were doing the beat test. Stace.
- 12:57Speaker 4: That was it. That was me came that year.
- 13:00Speaker 2: There is nothing I can't snorkel because when you can
- 13:04Speaker 2: hear yourself breathing, it makes me feel claustrophobic. And that's
- 13:08Speaker 2: what that gas mask did when we were all doing
- 13:10Speaker 2: the B test, because you're sucking it in at the
- 13:12Speaker 2: best of times and then it's amplified inside this gas mask.
- 13:16Speaker 2: It was horrendous. But yes, we did do that. Can
- 13:18Speaker 2: we take you back to the Constellation carpent I mean
- 13:22Speaker 2: it was up and down ebbs and flows to boot
- 13:24Speaker 2: in that one. But are you kind of glad to
- 13:27Speaker 2: play it out the way it did because it was
- 13:30Speaker 2: the ultimate test for your team in the end.
- 13:33Speaker 4: I would have preferred to one in the sixty minutes.
- 13:35Speaker 4: I think there's much to gain from that as well.
- 13:38Speaker 4: But there was one point when we had to go
- 13:41Speaker 4: back to the change room, that really unique environment of
- 13:43Speaker 4: twelve minute break before coming back out, and you know,
- 13:46Speaker 4: you pretty much say to the girls, we can't create
- 13:49Speaker 4: this opportunity ever in training or any other situation. So
- 13:54Speaker 4: in terms of preparation, this is it. This is the challenge,
- 13:58Speaker 4: this is the part where you want to in that moment.
- 14:01Speaker 4: And we talked about things that we've done at training,
- 14:04Speaker 4: but you know, this is where I think we do
- 14:07Speaker 4: stand up well. Our experienced players definitely want the ball
- 14:11Speaker 4: in hand, and I thought it was incredible, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 4: just how players really stepped up with tenacity, particularly having
- 14:19Speaker 4: gone the duration of the game and then going another pardon,
- 14:22Speaker 4: and that New Zealand crowd was ferocious. I probably haven't
- 14:26Speaker 4: experienced something as vocal and as direct to to the
- 14:32Speaker 4: on court players, and you know, that's that's what the
- 14:35Speaker 4: real rivalry is about, this Australian New Zealand passion and
- 14:39Speaker 4: it was heightened to the ends degree going into you
- 14:43Speaker 4: know that extra time period.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Now you've done it, your thoughts on the series Decide
- 14:47Speaker 2: of Time.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I'd love five games. Yeah, I think you know, you
- 14:53Speaker 4: want to be able to play the sixty minutes and
- 14:55Speaker 4: capitalize over that period of time. But you know, this
- 14:58Speaker 4: is a stepping stone, and I think one it's a
- 15:01Speaker 4: step to go. You want somebody to win outright, So
- 15:05Speaker 4: I guess that's one progression, and then I think eventually
- 15:07Speaker 4: it will go to the fifth game.
- 15:10Speaker 1: So interesting what you're saying there about saying to the
- 15:13Speaker 1: players in that twelve minutes, we can't create this. I
- 15:16Speaker 1: think that's such a clever way of giving them a
- 15:19Speaker 1: little bit of mental separation from the preparation, from the
- 15:22Speaker 1: pressure of that moment that it's like, this is actually
- 15:25Speaker 1: your opportunity, not just your opportunity to get out there
- 15:29Speaker 1: and win, but actually this is your opportunity to learn.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I think that's ingenious to sort of create that perspective
- 15:36Speaker 1: there for them in that moment.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I think, you know, one of the things that the
- 15:41Speaker 4: players and I sort of try to go to is
- 15:44Speaker 4: what is it that we're focusing on as opposed to
- 15:48Speaker 4: the environment and the pressure. The pressure is there the
- 15:52Speaker 4: moment the girls take the dress, they know that there's
- 15:55Speaker 4: an expectation, and you know, as Liz and Coxy would
- 15:59Speaker 4: know that there's an expectation with the Diamonds that you win.
- 16:03Speaker 4: It's a very unique sporting team that has had such
- 16:07Speaker 4: success and legacy, so it's kind of a given and
- 16:11Speaker 4: it's what you do in those moments. So they go
- 16:13Speaker 4: very much to process, they go very much to the
- 16:15Speaker 4: connection of each other, and they just need to go
- 16:19Speaker 4: with simplicity. I think that's our biggest thing. It's not complicated.
- 16:23Speaker 4: We don't have time to have massive game plans, and
- 16:27Speaker 4: you know it is. It's a game. You've got so
- 16:29Speaker 4: many restrictions around it. You know, you've just got to
- 16:31Speaker 4: be able to have the best cohesion under the highest
- 16:34Speaker 4: of pressure.
- 16:35Speaker 3: And say, it's just talk to us about the feeling afterwards.
- 16:39Speaker 3: You know, we watched that last game and we were
- 16:43Speaker 3: so wrapped that the Diamonds won, but then the injury
- 16:45Speaker 3: to Sunday. What was it like in the change rooms
- 16:48Speaker 3: in the immediate aftermath of that match.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Was probably awful, to be fair. It was one of
- 16:53Speaker 4: those moments that you saw the score, you saw the
- 16:56Speaker 4: time go down, you sort of put your hands up
- 16:58Speaker 4: and we go on. We won, and then you literally
- 17:00Speaker 4: put your hands down and there was tears and that's
- 17:03Speaker 4: pretty much that. That was the maximum amount of time
- 17:06Speaker 4: that we had to celebrate was richally look at the score, yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 4: and then and it was flat. I've never seen the
- 17:14Speaker 4: girls respond so emotionally with such immediacy, and same with
- 17:19Speaker 4: the staff. She's much loved, and it's kind of like
- 17:23Speaker 4: when you see an athlete that's been building their performance
- 17:26Speaker 4: and you've been waiting to see them in full flight
- 17:30Speaker 4: and taking the game on and owning the BIB. And
- 17:33Speaker 4: I thought she had an incredible series and for it
- 17:37Speaker 4: to end in that way, you just sort of go,
- 17:40Speaker 4: it's you know, it's it's incredibly tough, and you know
- 17:44Speaker 4: there's there's more to it in that her family or
- 17:47Speaker 4: siblings have had significant injuries with Ruth with her achilles,
- 17:51Speaker 4: her brothers had broken leg and he's an elite basketball player,
- 17:55Speaker 4: so all of this has happened in a very short
- 17:58Speaker 4: period of time. So it was compounded because we know
- 18:02Speaker 4: what her family's been through and we know what she's
- 18:05Speaker 4: going to have to now go through in her rehab.
- 18:08Speaker 4: But you know, it was funny. Then the Australia Awards
- 18:12Speaker 4: was the day after I woke up. I was in Melbourne,
- 18:15Speaker 4: rushing around trying to get an outfit. Walked into David
- 18:17Speaker 4: Jones and she's in the shoe section finding some flats
- 18:20Speaker 4: because she just wanted nice shoes for the event. So
- 18:24Speaker 4: you know, she takes things in astride and she's already
- 18:27Speaker 4: back in Perth. She was already back in the gym.
- 18:30Speaker 4: She had to do the extra strengthening stuff before the surgery.
- 18:33Speaker 4: So she's an absolute champion. And I think even from
- 18:36Speaker 4: the social media replying people would usually say, you know,
- 18:40Speaker 4: hope you go well, good luck with your recovery. She
- 18:43Speaker 4: was getting common like absolute paragraphs from people because of
- 18:48Speaker 4: the person that she is and how well she connects.
- 18:51Speaker 4: So it's a credit to her and I know she'll
- 18:54Speaker 4: be well supported on this little journey back.
- 18:57Speaker 3: I did tell her at the Netball Australia Dianner that
- 18:59Speaker 3: she can be back with him six months because I
- 19:01Speaker 3: was sown she's a better athlete than I was. And
- 19:03Speaker 3: she looked and she looked at me like I was
- 19:06Speaker 3: an idiot, cause I think now the eight because I
- 19:08Speaker 3: am and b I think now is it nine months
- 19:11Speaker 3: or twelve months? What's sort of recommended?
- 19:14Speaker 4: Twelve nine?
- 19:15Speaker 3: To twelve, and I'm like, no, no, no, Sunday, you
- 19:17Speaker 3: could do it in six You'll be fine.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you're anomally. I wish I wish it
- 19:24Speaker 4: could be six months. I think it'll be more the
- 19:26Speaker 4: nine till twelve. But yeah, I guess it just depends
- 19:29Speaker 4: on how the surgery goes, what are they truly find
- 19:32Speaker 4: in there, and then you know, each step to bring
- 19:35Speaker 4: her back.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Stace, how do you and the Diamonds now have that
- 19:39Speaker 2: relationship with Sunday going forward, because obviously she'll go back
- 19:42Speaker 2: to Perth, you'll do her rehab, have the surgery, all
- 19:44Speaker 2: that sort of stuff, but you clearly want someone like
- 19:47Speaker 2: that to remain very close knit and tight in your environment.
- 19:52Speaker 2: So how do you make sure that happens?
- 19:54Speaker 4: Yeah, So what we try to do is when players
- 19:56Speaker 4: are outside of an environment is keep them connected, particularly
- 19:59Speaker 4: when they're not in a camp. So you want them
- 20:01Speaker 4: to be across what you're evolving on the court, what
- 20:04Speaker 4: the culture looks like. So sometimes will have where they'll
- 20:08Speaker 4: phone in, particularly around culture leadership sessions. She's part of
- 20:11Speaker 4: our leadership group, so she'll stay connected in that development
- 20:14Speaker 4: process throughout the year, so she'll still have that connection
- 20:18Speaker 4: and be able to develop and evolve herself in a
- 20:21Speaker 4: different way. And then I guess you know what we've done.
- 20:24Speaker 4: When she wasn't involved in the South Africa series, Rich
- 20:28Speaker 4: I would call her after games and sort of debraef
- 20:31Speaker 4: what did we see? Ask her what she saw. We
- 20:34Speaker 4: actually want them to contribute because they have a different
- 20:37Speaker 4: lens on the game and how they would go about things,
- 20:40Speaker 4: so very much a very interactive way. But we also
- 20:45Speaker 4: have to be mindful they're going through rehabs, so when
- 20:48Speaker 4: is the right time for them to connect, When do
- 20:51Speaker 4: they feel most comfortable Because it's an emotional journey as well,
- 20:55Speaker 4: so you know, you don't want to be putting everything
- 20:57Speaker 4: on them when they're trying to go through the hard
- 21:01Speaker 4: part of a rehab phase and that might be all
- 21:03Speaker 4: the emotional energy that they've got at a particular point
- 21:06Speaker 4: in time. So we'll work through that plan. I know
- 21:09Speaker 4: she'll want to be connected and yeah, as I said,
- 21:12Speaker 4: she'll definitely be a part of our leadership component. We
- 21:16Speaker 4: have connect meetings where we bring the group together throughout
- 21:20Speaker 4: the SSN period just so that we make sure that
- 21:22Speaker 4: we're on the same page and you know, still building
- 21:26Speaker 4: the relationships amongst the group.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Well, I think it's time for things to get tough.
- 21:34Speaker 1: These have been some fairly softball questions we've given you, Stacey.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I think you're up. You're up for the pressure of
- 21:41Speaker 1: something we like to do is put up.
- 21:43Speaker 4: So there was no hard hitting questions.
- 21:48Speaker 2: To answer.
- 21:51Speaker 1: But you're about to enter Coxy's hot box, and this
- 21:56Speaker 1: is some rapid fire questions, unless, of course, you want
- 21:59Speaker 1: to say something that's not rapid fire, or we get
- 22:01Speaker 1: interested in something and then we completely derail. But Coxy
- 22:06Speaker 1: has some questions for you. I believe that you're up
- 22:09Speaker 1: for the challenge. I think that you've faced some pressure
- 22:11Speaker 1: in your time and probably come through. Okay, So it's
- 22:16Speaker 1: starting to a little bit.
- 22:18Speaker 2: This is where people do start to sweat because it's
- 22:21Speaker 2: hot in my hot box. All right, are you ready?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Stacey Mareenkevich? Whata's your coffee order?
- 22:27Speaker 4: I don't drink coffee dry? Shea a hot chocolate Okay,
- 22:35Speaker 4: I love it?
- 22:36Speaker 2: Okay, summer or winter summer breakfast, go to or just
- 22:41Speaker 2: vegemite toast. How funny are you? And Carolyn?
- 22:47Speaker 1: We'll get together and drink Scotch and have vegimie on toast.
- 22:50Speaker 2: It's gonna be great, the best date of my life.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Oh God, and Elizabeth and I'll have my Moses and eggs.
- 22:57Speaker 2: All right, funniest team member, and this can be across
- 23:02Speaker 2: any of your time as a player or as a coach.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Who's been the one that's just like every time you're like, Oh,
- 23:07Speaker 2: for God's sake.
- 23:09Speaker 4: She's gonna love this. But Hannah Monday, she.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Gets a lot of votes.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Someone so young, she has brought an absolute atmosphere to
- 23:20Speaker 4: the environment. So you probably guys experienced Shelley. Well I've
- 23:24Speaker 4: got the second version.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Oh my god. Well we know what Shelley's like, so
- 23:28Speaker 2: I feel for you. But funny because Samoe mckinnerson, Hannah Monday,
- 23:32Speaker 2: there you go. Tomato sauce in the fridge or the cupboard?
- 23:35Speaker 4: Cupboard.
- 23:36Speaker 2: What's your favorite sport outside of netball?
- 23:39Speaker 4: AFL?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Who's your team the Lions.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Lander?
- 23:44Speaker 4: Right?
- 23:45Speaker 1: Surely surely.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Favorite holiday destination?
- 23:50Speaker 4: Well I just said summer before, but my best holiday
- 23:53Speaker 4: has been skiing in Japan.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Oh nice, So you can ski, then, clearly.
- 23:58Speaker 4: I can attempt to scare. I can stay standing up
- 24:01Speaker 4: better than what my husband does.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Anyway, snowboard or skis ski.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:06Speaker 3: See, Matthew just now the skiing and make his parents
- 24:08Speaker 3: look stupid.
- 24:10Speaker 4: I haven't taken him yet, but I know that my
- 24:13Speaker 4: husband was going very slow down it and there was
- 24:15Speaker 4: like these five year olds that kept running over his
- 24:18Speaker 4: skis and board. It was really funny. So pick it
- 24:21Speaker 4: up quite well.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Yeah, get on that one early.
- 24:24Speaker 1: So Matthew in this instance is not Liz's husband. We're
- 24:27Speaker 1: talking about your primary school age son, right, So amidst
- 24:30Speaker 1: all of this other stuff, Yes, you.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Know Stacey has a holiday with my husband for quite
- 24:35Speaker 3: some time.
- 24:37Speaker 2: He neither. Actually, we need to get the band back together.
- 24:41Speaker 3: No, you don't.
- 24:42Speaker 2: When you're on planes a lot. What do you do
- 24:43Speaker 2: on planes? What's your activity? And don't give me netball
- 24:46Speaker 2: stuff because I'm sure there's a lot of prep and stuff.
- 24:48Speaker 2: But what else do you do?
- 24:50Speaker 4: No? Just watch Netflix pretty much. Just watch whatever movie
- 24:55Speaker 4: or TV series is happening at the moment.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Well, that's your next question is what are you binging
- 25:00Speaker 2: right now?
- 25:02Speaker 4: I watched The Diplomat second series.
- 25:05Speaker 3: It's Harry Russell.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Yes, Felicity, I'll get back into that. Who's the messiest
- 25:11Speaker 2: person you've been in a team with or you've coached
- 25:14Speaker 2: or just maybe hopeless who leaves things lying around.
- 25:18Speaker 4: I can throw this person out of the bus because
- 25:19Speaker 4: they do it in every media. Thing. Is Amy Palmenter.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Second nomination.
- 25:30Speaker 4: That's funny. To be fair, she is improving, and we're
- 25:34Speaker 4: probably helping each other improve because we both come in
- 25:36Speaker 4: the flowering line of leaving drink bottles and things left
- 25:39Speaker 4: right and center. So rich has actually started to leave
- 25:42Speaker 4: her stuff around. So going Nicole richardson.
- 25:46Speaker 3: So hang on, can we just can we just confirm
- 25:48Speaker 3: that rather than than you and Amy improving, you're trying
- 25:51Speaker 3: to drag everyone down.
- 25:54Speaker 4: It's like you got it. It's like once you lose
- 25:59Speaker 4: one thing, you get into this routine. And then I've
- 26:02Speaker 4: had the girls actually take my drink bottle hide it,
- 26:06Speaker 4: and then it's reported with the air hostess. Does anyone
- 26:10Speaker 4: you know lost their yellow, frank green drink bottle or whatever?
- 26:13Speaker 4: And I have to sit there and go, that's mine.
- 26:16Speaker 4: But they've taken it and actually made out.
- 26:20Speaker 2: I love it.
- 26:21Speaker 4: They set up majorly.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and ps, it doesn't sound very high performance of you.
- 26:25Speaker 2: You need to lift your game stage. Okay, do you
- 26:27Speaker 2: have any tattoos?
- 26:29Speaker 4: No, no tattoos. My husband has enough for both of us.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Okay, fair enough? All right, what's your favorite music genre?
- 26:37Speaker 4: Oh, to be honest, I just play whatever was on
- 26:40Speaker 4: the radio. I am useless at music. Do whatever the
- 26:43Speaker 4: girls are playing. I just jump on board with everybody else.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, fair enough.
- 26:47Speaker 1: There seems to be a lot of country music at
- 26:50Speaker 1: the moment. Are you hearing a lot of country music
- 26:52Speaker 1: from the girls?
- 26:54Speaker 4: Our strength and conditioning coach plays country music when he's
- 26:58Speaker 4: driving out the staff to game, So definitely hearing a
- 27:02Speaker 4: lot of that and a lot of sing alongs Neil
- 27:05Speaker 4: diamond By. You know rich I is involved with with
- 27:08Speaker 4: all of that sort of stuff. So anything this is
- 27:10Speaker 4: sing along, that's usually what's on the staff bus.
- 27:13Speaker 2: God, I miss team environments. I love all that stuff. Okay,
- 27:16Speaker 2: last question, and this one is very important to Liz
- 27:18Speaker 2: ellis how do you have your steak cooked pressure medium?
- 27:23Speaker 4: Oh that's okay, that'll do well.
- 27:27Speaker 2: To pass said, well done. And I think Liza has
- 27:29Speaker 2: been in the fetal position since.
- 27:33Speaker 4: I don't ever if you asked rich O that question.
- 27:37Speaker 4: She it has to be dead, like pretty much charcoal.
- 27:40Speaker 4: She sends stuff back or she just sits there. She
- 27:44Speaker 4: just won't touch anything. That's got red in it.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Okay, so form rich, I'm hearing Neil Diamond and well done, Steak.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Is she pension her?
- 27:54Speaker 4: Yeah? I can throw these potshots at the moment because
- 28:00Speaker 4: she can't come back at me.
- 28:03Speaker 3: That's what it was to know, but we might't chase that.
- 28:08Speaker 4: I pass with you.
- 28:11Speaker 2: You passed with flying colors. And thank you so much
- 28:13Speaker 2: for your time, because stupidly I thought you were kind
- 28:16Speaker 2: of freezer bird right now, but you are very busy.
- 28:19Speaker 2: So we're so grateful that you've had some time to
- 28:21Speaker 2: come and join us, and we just wish you nothing
- 28:24Speaker 2: but the best for the next two big years you've
- 28:26Speaker 2: got coming up.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Thanks very much.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks so much for joining us. What a great insight,
- 28:31Speaker 1: so fun to have you here. I'm Carolyn Swindel.
- 28:34Speaker 3: I'm Capcox, I'm Lizzella's Thanks, Dacecia.
- 28:36Speaker 1: And that's Stacy Marinkovich. Thanks for joining us on the
- 28:39Speaker 1: Nodrible Summer series.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Bye bye.
