- 0:00you are here to change lives,
- 0:01but we can't be changed by you if you're hiding.
- 0:04We can't be moved by you if you're not moving.
- 0:06We can't be affected by you if you stay within this shell.
- 0:09So the energy that the universe has gifted all of us
- 0:13through you is being blocked.
- 0:14The love that the universe has gifted all of us through you
- 0:17is being blocked by you not stepping into
- 0:20that fullest expression.
- 0:21You are infinitely profoundly magical
- 0:25and you are living this paradox.
- 0:27And I'm receiving that you love paradoxes.
- 0:28You are living this paradox of visibility
- 0:32in that what you seek the most to be seen,
- 0:36to share your gifts and be celebrated
- 0:39is also what you fear the most.
- 0:41And that is to be seen.
- 0:44Some of your deepest wounds are related to visibility,
- 0:49bullying, sharing your gifts and being laughed at
- 0:52or criticized, being told to be quiet,
- 0:55being told to tone yourself down,
- 0:57being told you were too much, too loud,
- 1:00taking up too much space,
- 1:01internalizing that message from childhood,
- 1:04from bullying or from even people in your life
- 1:07who should have protected and celebrated you,
- 1:09actually criticizing and making you feel small,
- 1:13making you feel shame instead of love,
- 1:16rejection instead of radical acceptance and celebration.
- 1:20So there are these deep wounds and these deep childhood pains
- 1:24that you have internalized
- 1:26and as such created the shell of protection around yourself.
- 1:30This calcified all the stories around what it means
- 1:34to be seen, what it means to shine your light,
- 1:36therefore leading you to dim your light,
- 1:39to take up space in a way that was so different
- 1:41from how you would as a child,
- 1:43to be less vibrant, to be less expressive.
- 1:46And it feels like you never have found your way back
- 1:49to that level of expression,
- 1:50to that level of sharing your light with the world,
- 1:53being the loud voice in the room,
- 1:55singing or dancing, I'm getting that,
- 1:57I'm receiving that, you used to love performing.
- 2:01And you've lost that love in some way
- 2:03and you're trying to find your way back to it
- 2:04and you've already been feeling glimpses
- 2:07of that reconnection of that love,
- 2:08but then there's also the heartbreak
- 2:10of what would have happened if you'd never given up.
- 2:12If you'd stayed on that path, where would you be now?
- 2:14So there's a lot of self forgiveness
- 2:16that you're being invited to.
- 2:18Okay, so that's some of your deepest wounds
- 2:20around visibility,
- 2:21but also some of your favorite moments in your life
- 2:24have been the moments when you felt truly seen.
- 2:27I'm receiving that you're an incredible listener.
- 2:29You hold such a beautiful space for people.
- 2:32You allow people to feel seen, to feel heard.
- 2:35You give them space to say things
- 2:37that they've never even said.
- 2:38People often say to you, wow.
- 2:41No one's ever asked me that question or oh my word.
- 2:45I've never told that to anyone or wow,
- 2:48I'm still thinking about what you said to me three years ago.
- 2:51That question you asked me,
- 2:53or the way you listened to me,
- 2:54or the conversation we had has stuck with me ever since.
- 2:57So you change lives through your listening
- 2:59and through the poetry of your existence.
- 3:03So the moments where you have felt seen,
- 3:04maybe you've been in a group
- 3:06and you've told the joke and people have all laughed.
- 3:08And that's felt so you're like, hmm, I like that.
- 3:11So you like entertaining.
- 3:13You like sharing your gifts and being recognized for them.
- 3:17You like singing in front of people
- 3:19who actually value your voice.
- 3:21You like sharing your poetry with people
- 3:24who value your craft and the artfulness of your expression.
- 3:27You like being seen is actually the funny thing.
- 3:31You love being seen.
- 3:32The difference is you love being seen
- 3:34when you know you will be lovingly witnessed.
- 3:37Hmm.
- 3:40What we are all seeking my love when it comes to being seen
- 3:43is not just to be seen.
- 3:44We don't just wanna be seen.
- 3:45There's people I don't want to see this video.
- 3:47We want to be lovingly seen, to be lovingly witnessed.
- 3:52We want someone who is willing to celebrate.
- 3:55Each of us has a memory of childhood
- 3:56where we learn to do something.
- 3:58Could have been a handstand, it could have been to whistle.
- 4:00And we said, look, look, mom, look, friend,
- 4:03look, person, look at me and lovingly witness me.
- 4:07We didn't say those words, but celebrate me, acknowledge me.
- 4:10And in those moments came some of our deepest wounds
- 4:13when people looked away instead of looking towards
- 4:16when people looked at us with indifference
- 4:18or with annoyance, with irritation,
- 4:21with blame, with anger instead of with softness,
- 4:24with love, with receptivity,
- 4:26with radical receptivity to what we were there to give.
- 4:29It's in those moments that we were looked to with judgment
- 4:32instead of with acceptance and celebration
- 4:36that some of these wounds calcified into the shell of protection
- 4:39that we now are trapped within.
- 4:41The thing about a shell is of course it serves a purpose.
- 4:43It serves the purpose of protection.
- 4:46It can protect us from the outside world.
- 4:48It can protect us from harsh sunlight.
- 4:50And in this sense, it protects us from some of the humiliation
- 4:54that we fear can come with being seen.
- 4:57So we hide ourselves and we shrink ourselves
- 4:59and you've been doing that.
- 5:01But you sense that it's too much now.
- 5:04You are tired of hiding.
- 5:05And what's coming through is the words,
- 5:07people less talented than you, taking up more space,
- 5:10getting opportunities that you feel,
- 5:12you could attract to yourself if you went all in.
- 5:14People less knowledgeable than you being guests on podcasts
- 5:18or sharing their wisdom or thoughts with the world.
- 5:20Now what I do want to say, babes,
- 5:22because I've also been there, people less than than me.
- 5:24It's the ego.
- 5:26It's this hierarchical understanding
- 5:28because I know more, what is even to know more?
- 5:31Can knowledge even be measured in that way?
- 5:33You know this idea of quantification of self
- 5:35that comes from capitalism, colonialism, patriarchy,
- 5:39the notion of hierarchy, of dominance.
- 5:42Like I dominate this topic,
- 5:44therefore I should be the one speaking on it, right?
- 5:46And both things can be true.
- 5:47It's amazing to hear from someone
- 5:49who has deep wisdom in a subject or topic, absolutely.
- 5:52But I just want to give voice to the idea that this narrative
- 5:55that people less talented than me
- 5:57are receiving more opportunities,
- 5:59it's not the most loving way we could choose to look at it.
- 6:01And being loving, it's a daily practice, it takes work.
- 6:05I am on this journey with you in terms of that.
- 6:07No one arrives.
- 6:08We all fail to be loving in many ways.
- 6:10And I think we're on this path of trying to be more loving.
- 6:13So I wanted to offer that shift
- 6:15that we don't need to put anyone down as we seek
- 6:17to live our dreams.
- 6:18We can say that every one of these people who I admire
- 6:21and receiving the idea that envy is also part of your experience,
- 6:24envying people who are living your dream,
- 6:26envying people who are taking up the space
- 6:28that you want to take up
- 6:29and receiving the opportunities, collaborations, money,
- 6:32abundance that comes with them
- 6:34sharing their gifts with the world.
- 6:35And so there's an envy feeling there.
- 6:37And I just want to say I hold that with so much love
- 6:39and it can be a really painful experience to move through.
- 6:42We all feel it, especially in this again,
- 6:45quantified, algorithmized reality of the online space.
- 6:49But also in our day to day lives,
- 6:51we feel envy of relationships that we're not in
- 6:53or experiences, we're not having travel,
- 6:55we're not doing all of these things.
- 6:57So I just want to hold love for you.
- 6:58But while the shell has served the purpose of protection,
- 7:01it's now causing you to feel suffocated.
- 7:04You are ready to extend beyond the shell.
- 7:07And what I'm hearing is that some of your fears
- 7:10are around releasing the shell of protection around you,
- 7:13but also some of your wildest dreams
- 7:15and desires will be unlocked by that release.
- 7:18By you stepping into sharing your light with the world,
- 7:20sharing your gifts, your magic, your art,
- 7:23your ideas, your thoughts, your perspectives,
- 7:25like you are here to change lives.
- 7:27But we can't be changed by you if you're hiding.
- 7:30We can't be moved by you if you're not moving.
- 7:32We can't be affected by you
- 7:34if you stay within this shell.
- 7:35So the energy that the universe has gifted all of us
- 7:38through you is being blocked.
- 7:40The love that the universe has gifted all of us through you
- 7:43is being blocked by you not stepping into
- 7:46that fullest expression.
- 7:47So I have this e-book called The Soulful Visibility Guide.
- 7:51And it's free for now.
- 7:53And you can receive it on my website into your inbox
- 7:56at ianderstud.com.
- 7:58As we talk about the paradox of visibility,
- 8:00something that completely changed my life
- 8:02is Audrey Lorde's work.
- 8:04And I share this in the e-book.
- 8:07And one of her essays that I return to again and again,
- 8:10and this essay, her work, her words,
- 8:12may she rest in peace, power and poetry,
- 8:15I'm so in awe.
- 8:16And I want to read you this quote
- 8:18because it speaks to the paradox of visibility.
- 8:20It speaks to this dual desire and fear we have,
- 8:23this absolute desire to be more seen,
- 8:26to take up more space, to be witnessed in our magic
- 8:29and our gifts with this complete absolute fear
- 8:32of humiliation, of essentially social death.
- 8:35So what I want to read to you is this quote by Audrey Lorde,
- 8:38she says, in the cause of silence,
- 8:43each of us draws the face of her own fear,
- 8:48fear of contempt, of censure,
- 8:51or some judgment, or recognition,
- 8:54fear of challenge, of annihilation.
- 8:59But most of all, I think, we fear the visibility
- 9:05without which we cannot truly live.
- 9:12Most of all, we fear the visibility
- 9:16without which we cannot truly live.
- 9:20That is from the essay,
- 9:22The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action
- 9:25by Audrey Lorde.
- 9:27And I want to share with you that you can feel
- 9:29that what we seek most, what we crave,
- 9:31what we long for, what we yearn for,
- 9:34is also what we fear.
- 9:36And it's not just visibility in our creativity and craft,
- 9:39in our relationships, we fear being truly seen.
- 9:42We fear that we are not lovable
- 9:44if we share all of ourselves.
- 9:46We've been told we're too much,
- 9:47so we hide ourselves, so you hide yourself.
- 9:51And you sense that there is a deeper level of connection
- 9:54on the other side of this hiding.
- 9:55And that's also why the fear of being seen
- 9:58is showing up for you.
- 10:00So what I want to say to you, my darling,
- 10:01my love, my angel, is this fear of humiliation.
- 10:04Did you know that the root of the word humiliation
- 10:07comes from the idea of making something humble.
- 10:10And humble used to mean lowly.
- 10:12It used to mean less than, right?
- 10:13So you're making someone, you're reducing them
- 10:16to the level of a lowly person.
- 10:18So we can hear the baggage of that.
- 10:19It's a hierarchical system.
- 10:21That is the cultural historical baggage
- 10:24that this colonial word, rooting from Latin,
- 10:27is carrying the idea that you are reducing someone
- 10:30to a base level.
- 10:31It's like a basement, right?
- 10:33A basement, meaning mortification, embarrassment, shame,
- 10:37all those things.
- 10:38So when we think about it, if we want to see a world
- 10:42that's not rooted in hierarchy,
- 10:44we have to start acting in alignment with that world,
- 10:47which means in that world we're all living our essence
- 10:50which is love, and we're all seeing the essence
- 10:53which is love in others, and in earth.
- 10:55So in that world, there is no humiliation.
- 10:58You cannot reduce people because we are irreducible
- 11:01because we've come home to love within ourselves
- 11:03and within how we see others.
- 11:05So when we see that, and we see a lot of people
- 11:07are talking about this beautiful
- 11:09in order to have the life that you want,
- 11:11you have to start acting as if you are already
- 11:15the one living that life.
- 11:16And if you take that to the collective level,
- 11:18if we want to see a world rooted in love,
- 11:21collective healing, abundance, thriving, safety,
- 11:24don't we have to start acting as though we are already
- 11:27those people, don't we have to start believing
- 11:29in the parts of the collective that are that
- 11:31and that want to be that, and all they're looking for
- 11:33is the invitation that you are uniquely here to provide,
- 11:36like you are here to speak a specific language
- 11:37to those people who are meant to hear you.
- 11:41Because we're not all moved by the same energies.
- 11:44So we need everyone's energy to align with love
- 11:46so that it can move who it's meant to move
- 11:48and invite them into more love.
- 11:49Because love is an abundant energy,
- 11:51we will never tire of the invitation into love.
- 11:54There will always be more to do.
- 11:55There'll be more music, we can listen to,
- 11:57there'll be more perspectives, we can hear,
- 11:59there'll be more embodiment, more dance, more singing,
- 12:02there will be more relationships and relational
- 12:04understandings like love is infinite
- 12:06because love is the infinite.
- 12:08Love is another word for the divine.
- 12:10Love is another word for God.
- 12:11Love is another word for source.
- 12:13Love is the most powerful energy of all.
- 12:15So there is so much to do.
- 12:18And so that's why if you're worried about taking up space,
- 12:20baby love has space.
- 12:21Love will never tire of space.
- 12:23There can never be enough voices being about love.
- 12:25There can never be enough artists
- 12:27creating through and with and for love,
- 12:29which could be singing a very melancholic song.
- 12:31We know that that is part of love's history and music.
- 12:34People's history of love through music
- 12:36is these deep feeling melancholic songs
- 12:39of struggle, of heartbreak, of mourning, of grieving,
- 12:43of activism, like that is part of some of the most moving
- 12:46pieces of art have come from and through love
- 12:50and you are one of them.
- 12:54And you are one of them.
- 12:56From the perspective of the universe,
- 12:57can you be humiliating?
- 12:59Could you be humiliated?
- 13:00You are a creation of the universe.
- 13:03You are the art of the universe.
- 13:06And so there's nothing humiliating about you.
- 13:09And so when you realign yourself to love
- 13:11and there's that Mary and Williamson quote
- 13:13that hand the Rumi quote, for Rumi,
- 13:16it was do not seek for love,
- 13:18seek for the barriers within yourself
- 13:20that separate or remove you from it.
- 13:22He did say at the end of that quote and embrace them.
- 13:25So there's that idea of radical acceptance.
- 13:27And then there's a Mary and Williamson quote,
- 13:28which says, and I think it's from
- 13:30what she has studied called the Course in Miracles
- 13:32where she says that love cannot be taught.
- 13:35But what we can teach and what our aim should be in this life
- 13:38is to remove the blocks that prevent our awareness
- 13:44of the presence of love, which is our birthright,
- 13:47which is our inheritance.
- 13:48So remove the blocks that prevent our awareness
- 13:51of the presence of love.
- 13:54So what is blocking your awareness of the presence of love?
- 13:58We have so many things in the society that are doing that.
- 14:01And so part of this path of being seen
- 14:04is holding that in a child that didn't feel good enough
- 14:06that was humiliated, that was bullied
- 14:08or that felt ashamed or ashamed in some way
- 14:11and loving them back to life, loving them to healing,
- 14:15loving them radically, fiercely, lovingly, divinely,
- 14:19being that older sibling or that parent
- 14:22or that knowing presence in their life,
- 14:24that lovingly witnesses them at every step they take.
- 14:26That says, there's nothing shameful about you.
- 14:29There's nothing wrong with you.
- 14:31There's nothing that needs to be hidden behind the shield,
- 14:35the shell of perfectionism, I suffer from that shell.
- 14:38So there's many different shells that we can hide within
- 14:40hide behind perfectionism, the idea that if I show up
- 14:45in a certain way, I will protect myself
- 14:48from essentially being seen as not enough,
- 14:51which is what I already feel.
- 14:53And so we guard ourselves where it has to be perfect
- 14:56because I don't get to be seen if it's not.
- 14:58It has to be perfect because I can't deal
- 15:00with what it would look like for people to see me
- 15:02as I actually am.
- 15:04And what I love and has humbled me so much about this work
- 15:07around the fear of being seen is how infinite it is.
- 15:11It's not comparable, that is the colonizer's framework
- 15:14that you conquer something, you dominate it, you win it,
- 15:18that life is a competition and a deadly one at that.
- 15:22Actually, in this case, first of all,
- 15:24through love, there is no competition,
- 15:26there is no dominance or conquering,
- 15:28but second of all, life is an infinite expansion.
- 15:32So with the fear of being seen,
- 15:33there's the myth that we're gonna arrive at this level
- 15:36of completely not fearing being seen.
- 15:38But that's not human.
- 15:40Why is that?
- 15:41Because we're social beings, we are wired for connection,
- 15:45we are connection, as I say,
- 15:47meaning that we are actually an embodiment
- 15:49of all the things that connect us,
- 15:51our culture, our family, our lineage,
- 15:54our language and languages, our understandings,
- 15:57the things we've read, the things we've seen,
- 15:59we connect all those things,
- 16:00like we are that walking connection of those aspects
- 16:03of reality that have touched and moved and been through us.
- 16:06So because we're social beings,
- 16:09there will be part of us that seeks the acceptance
- 16:11and approval of our peers and of others.
- 16:14The idea that we will eventually reach the state
- 16:17of not feeling afraid to be seen,
- 16:20I think would mean that we have completely lost
- 16:24something essential about what it means to be human.
- 16:26Sometimes we're aiming for something
- 16:28that is more aligned to what we think
- 16:30reality should be than what it is.
- 16:31There will always be the unknown of what the other thinks of us
- 16:35and that unknown will always cause a little bit of anxiety
- 16:38or a lot, like some spectrum of tension.
- 16:42What we can do is dance with this tension,
- 16:44release some of the tension, reduce the tension
- 16:47and why this work has humbled me where I started
- 16:50is that you will continue to be invited to be seen
- 16:54on more and more or bigger or different arenas of visibility,
- 16:59different dimensions of visibility.
- 17:01So for example, now I can speak to you like this
- 17:04and I can feel like, okay,
- 17:06even though I have some in a criticism,
- 17:09it's so much less of a block than it used to be.
- 17:12But like now I'm being invited to do something else,
- 17:14which is maybe sing or do something else,
- 17:17which is maybe interview other people.
- 17:18So we're always being invited, invited, invited.
- 17:21Someone asked me, why don't you host an in-person event?
- 17:23I said, oh my goodness, what?
- 17:25What? That is so scary.
- 17:27You mean people live can just respond?
- 17:30So then that planted a seed,
- 17:33what if you host an in-person event, fear of being seen?
- 17:35So we're always being invited,
- 17:37this is why I'm creating a group container
- 17:40to step into the boldest visibility that we can this year.
- 17:44It's gonna be a small group of people
- 17:46and we're gonna be taking this to the next level
- 17:48because I have plans and I wanna work
- 17:51in like an intimate space with people on it.
- 17:53I'm gonna be doing a bunch of things
- 17:55on the fear of being seen, so watch this space.
- 17:58It starts with this e-book,
- 17:59so make sure you get the e-book.
- 18:00Okay, soulful visibility.
- 18:04And I'm also gonna be doing a free training,
- 18:06so watch this space for that.
- 18:08So if you're interested in that,
- 18:09all you need to make sure you are on is my email list,
- 18:12which you will do by signing up for this e-book.
- 18:15If you've already got the e-book, you're there
- 18:16and I will be communicating with you via email,
- 18:19otherwise babes join us, join the soul salon,
- 18:22join the soul siblings, join the e-mail list.
- 18:24Okay, so am I dawning my love, my angel?
- 18:26Your essence is love, so you can't be humiliated now.
- 18:30Not to say your ego can't be humiliated,
- 18:32of course it can be.
- 18:34Of course it can be, and it's painful, it's painful.
- 18:37One day I think I may have just like a humiliation,
- 18:39vibe like party or something,
- 18:41I'm gonna just share stories of embarrassment
- 18:43because we're really, that's what we're avoiding.
- 18:45You know how thinking of the word like mortified,
- 18:47I'm mortified, and how it's like rooted in death
- 18:50to make dead, mortal, immortal, it's all related to dying.
- 18:54So we have this notion of a social death,
- 18:57but because we're social beings,
- 18:59a social death feels like a physical death.
- 19:01They're not separable, that's why when people feel
- 19:04like they don't have a social sense of love,
- 19:08they feel unworthy in their life force,
- 19:10and if this is you, we are sending you so much love,
- 19:12you are so eternally worthy, and we are with you in this life,
- 19:14and we are with you, and we are thinking of you,
- 19:16and we are channeling you, and you are so powerful,
- 19:18and beautiful, and this will pass,
- 19:20and love will find you in its physical manifestation,
- 19:23that love is all around you in its spiritual one, okay?
- 19:26Okay, my love, okay.
- 19:27So this is what I felt cool to share today,
- 19:29my darling, my angel, my love.
- 19:30I wanna just say, I love you, you are love,
- 19:34and the more you align yourself with that truth,
- 19:36the more the idea of what could go wrong,
- 19:38will stop holding such a huge power over you,
- 19:41because what could go wrong will not change the fact
- 19:44that you are love and you are loved,
- 19:46and also the more you stand in your truth and power,
- 19:49the more you will attract, the friends,
- 19:51the community that peers, the mentors, the group spaces,
- 19:54that you're actually supposed to be in.
- 19:56You at least deserve to find out.
- 19:57Don't you think that's true?
- 19:58Don't you just deserve to find out,
- 19:59like aren't you tired of the story around what will happen?
- 20:02Wouldn't you rather just write the story by living it?
- 20:05Let's leave it there, my darling, my love,
- 20:07my angel, I love you so much,
- 20:08and I'll see you on the next sole session.
- 20:10You are love, you are loved,
- 20:12you are the essence of love itself,
- 20:13you are poetry, you are the poem,
- 20:15you are the universe's divine creation,
- 20:17the universe is proud of you,
- 20:19the universe is not ashamed of you,
- 20:21you are the universe, you are the cosmos,
- 20:23and through you we get to experience
- 20:25so much more expansion, love, poetry, music,
- 20:29generosity, service, abundance, truth, wisdom, creativity,
- 20:34playfulness, pleasure, delight,
- 20:36and we all need those frequencies.
- 20:38So please let the love that is trying to be expressed
- 20:40through you, express, do not block, but allow,
- 20:43do not withhold, but share, do not hide,
- 20:46but stand in your light and stand in your power,
- 20:48and know that you are not alone.
- 20:50The collective is awakening, the collective is rising,
- 20:52and we need voices, artists, teachers,
- 20:55business owners, leaders to step into love
- 20:58and purpose and service and show us the way,
- 21:01and you are someone's way, I assure you of that.
