- 0:00we're back to the list we got feeling like a
- 0:02tailor mini we got need to know don't pick that
- 0:04one because I feel like I'm not prepared for
- 0:07it fully yet maybe the need to know one or the
- 0:10feeling like a tailor no the need to know one
- 0:12we could do feeling like Taylor so we don't really
- 0:15need to know yet nope need to know don't pick
- 0:19that one I'll tell you when you can pick it zebra
- 0:21muscle adjacent Bunkers, whale sad, whales in
- 0:26language, extinction adjacent, but I don't think
- 0:29it's in the way you would expect. Clingwrap.
- 0:32Oh, and 2019 adjacent because it's from 2019.
- 0:35I think I want from the Taylor category just
- 0:38because I want to know if it's like, oh, Taylor
- 0:40will like this or it's like, oh, it's depressing
- 0:42like Taylor does. It's like the worst thing you
- 0:44could ever think of. Let's see what it is. It's
- 0:47from vocm .com local news now. I wonder where
- 0:52this is from. It's local, wherever local may
- 0:55be. Everything's local, technically. April 14,
- 0:582026, I'm pleasantly surprised. Oh, looking good.
- 1:00I know. Maybe that's why it's feeling like a
- 1:03Taylor update, because it's recent. OK, archaeologists
- 1:07sound the alarm and race the clock as coastal
- 1:10erosion threatens historic sites. Oh, yeah, it's
- 1:13like a Taylor episode. Exactly. That's why I
- 1:16labeled it that, plus it's recent. Environmentalists
- 1:19and climatologists have been sounding the alarm
- 1:21for years. years, but another group of scientific
- 1:24professionals is seeing first -hand the effects
- 1:27of a rapidly changing climate. Archaeologists
- 1:30at Memorial University have been mapping changes
- 1:33to the coastline of an island of historic significance
- 1:36off fairyland. A real place you say. F -E -R
- 1:44-R -Y -L -A -N -D. We'll have the researchers
- 1:47find it for you. I'm talking to the audience.
- 1:50Do you think you could google it quick? Their
- 1:52findings are alarming. Barry Galton and Kalen
- 1:55Brydon says the coastline of Boy's Island has
- 1:58changed dramatically since 1951, with more rapid
- 2:02coastline erosion having taken place in the last
- 2:0520 years. Here I'm looking at a map showing how
- 2:08it is receding. It's significant. I'll just say
- 2:11that. On the north, south and west coast of the
- 2:14island, they found multiple sites where the coastline
- 2:17had eroded by more than 10 meters since 1951.
- 2:21However, the eastern coast is where the greatest
- 2:23concern lies, with an entire area heavily affected
- 2:27by erosion. Their findings show that the worst
- 2:30affected area saw up to 20 meters of coastline
- 2:33loss. Comparing those changes over time showed
- 2:35that the erosion rate from 2008 to 2025 was triple
- 2:39that of 1951 to 2008. The researchers say the
- 2:44coastal erosion will only be exacerbated in future,
- 2:47accelerating the loss of important historic artifacts.
- 2:51Two cannon have already been lost from their
- 2:53original location and several more are under
- 2:56threat of being displaced. Galton and Brydon
- 2:58suggest that a thorough survey be conducted along
- 3:01the perimeter of the island to record concentrations
- 3:03of metal objects, followed by test -pitting and
- 3:07targeted excavation. That they say would provide
- 3:10baseline information on the nature of at -risk
- 3:13cultural deposits and identified areas of urgency
- 3:17while allowing for future planning. Oh, that
- 3:19was the end. That was the end. Oh, okay. Where's
- 3:21Fairyland? I'm just looking. Travel Newfoundland
- 3:23has a whole very optimistic look at Fairyland.
- 3:27Looks very nice. Doesn't mention anything about
- 3:29erosion. Is it Canada? I think so. Okay. There's
- 3:33a Fairyland in Newfoundland. Okay, and it's an
- 3:35island? No. Well, it's part of an island. It's
- 3:37on Newfoundland Island. Oh. It might actually
- 3:40be its own island. I can't tell. Okay. Well,
- 3:43there's also this. It says Bois Island. And I
- 3:48don't even know where the local news station
- 3:50is that I got this from. Well, Fairyland is like
- 3:53the tip of Northeastern. Newfoundland. Okay,
- 3:57Boyce Island is Canadian, so it maybe is Newfoundland.
- 4:01This is the hard -hitting mini -journalism that
- 4:03I think everybody is after. In Newfoundland.
- 4:06Yeah, that's what you need to draw from this,
- 4:08everybody. It's Newfoundland. Yeah. There you
- 4:10go. It's Canada. Oh wow, there's a ton of mini

- 4:17but there's a ton. Really? Maybe this is in Newfoundland.
- 4:20It's right next to Flaubert Cove Island. Oh,
- 4:23this local VOCM is Newfoundland and Labrador's
- 4:27newsletter. Okay. Wow. What a surprise. There's
- 4:33a grassy island and a king island. Really? And
- 4:37a stone island and a pearl island and a pigeon
- 4:40island. Who knew? Two middle islands. Wow. There's
- 4:43some shag rocks. See, we've learned so much about...
