- 2:13to be able to come before you guys and to share it just does something
- 2:19to me. I get joyed every time I get the opportunity to come before
- 2:24you guys and to just share with you guys. Tonight is very special to
- 2:29me, and I'm happy to have these two amazing queens that's sharing a platform
- 2:35with me tonight. Not only are there going to be sharing a platform with
- 2:38me tonight, but they are the co authors to this amazing thirty one day
- 2:45devotional that dropped on today y'all, bringing healing in the City and Hills.
- 2:51If you guys did not get an opportunity to connect with the first book I
- 2:55tell you this one say thirty one day devotional and it's just the three of
- 3:00us. We're sharing our perspective on domestic violence, trying to bring some light
- 3:08the violence and helping those to reclaim their lives after going through domestics. As
- 3:16you look at me, I am a nine year survivor of being shot point
- 3:22blank range with us out our shotgun. I should not be here, but
- 3:25it's God's grace and mercy that I am here and able to share my story.
- 3:30I often say I survive so that I can share my story to help
- 3:36somebody else not have to go through what I went through. So y'all know,
- 3:39I'll get the talking and I'll get the going. So I'm gonna move
- 3:43on out the way. I'm gonna bring up these two amazing queens, gonna
- 3:46allow them to introduce themselves, and then we're gonna talk about our journey.
- 3:51We're gonna talk about this book, what this book means to us, and
- 3:53then we want you guys to go over and support us, support us on
- 3:59this journey. You have to do is download this a major Kindle version of
- 4:03the book only three dollars and thirty three cents. You get an opportunity for
- 4:08thirty one days. You get to read the things that we've shared as we
- 4:13poured out scripture, short testimonies or lessons from the scripture that we share,
- 4:19and then we give y'all a press starter, something that would start you into
- 4:25press. Because everybody don't know how to pray, and everybody don't know how
- 4:28to start. So we want to give individuals for an opportunity to start a
- 4:32prayer. So we share press starters and affirmations. But again, I am
- 4:38the Queen, and if you would please share this in your circle of influence,
- 4:43because you never know what someone is in need of. And again we
- 4:47are kicking off Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you know someone that may be
- 4:51suffering in silence, don't just see. If you see something, y'all do
- 4:57something about it, speak up and speak out. So, without further ado,
- 5:01I'm gonna bring up to my two amazing co authors and my guests for
- 5:06tonight. We have Lakeisha Trim and Michelin Mouse. Now. Welcome, Welcome,
- 5:15Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. Hello. I want Lakisa please to introduce
- 5:21yourself. Hi. I am author Lakeisha Trim. I am a motivational speaker.
- 5:30I am a mother first and foremost, a mother of four and a
- 5:34grandmother five. Hi, like miss michell Michelin, if you would please introduce
- 5:45yourself. Hi, my name is Michelin Moss. I bring you greetings from
- 5:50Memphis, Tennessee by way of New Jersey. I am a wife, mother
- 5:58of three boys, and I have six grandchildren. And I am also a
- 6:05poet author. I'm a marriage efficient because I love love, and I also
- 6:16sell jewelry. And I'm also trying to start an organization for parents of children
- 6:25who lost their sight because my son recently lost his. So I'm still trying
- 6:30to navigate my way through what to do, resources, support groups and just
- 6:38you know, just resources that's out there for the parent as well as the
- 6:43children. Amazing, amazing, amazing. When I definitely may have some people
- 6:49that I can put you in contact with, because I have coopered some book
- 6:55with individuals that are that are either legally blind or they're totally blind, but
- 7:02they are not allowing their disabilities to keep them from doing the things that God
- 7:08has called them too. So we actually have a young lady that's in our
- 7:12poetry anithology Chante Reid she is legally blind. She does a lot, so
- 7:20I definitely want to put you in contact with her. And then there's another
- 7:24young lady that I would like to put you in contact with. So we
- 7:27definitely that's what we do. That that's what we do. But tonight we're
- 7:33gonna be touching on this topic of domestic violence as today keeps off Domestic Violence
- 7:42Awareness Month, bringing awareness to domestic violence. And when people think about domestic
- 7:49violence oftentime, they just only think about the physical part of domestic violence.
- 7:56And then they think that only males go on females endure it, that it's
- 8:01always done by male, which is I mean, just totally wrong. There
- 8:07are men that have been abuse and then there are oh my god, we
- 8:13used to say five to six types of domestic violence. But you think about
- 8:18it. You have physical, you have emotional, psychological, financial, mental,
- 8:24you have spiritual, you you you you just have so many types of
- 8:33abuse. You know, people don't think that if if people are holding their
- 8:37money from you, if your spouse is withholding money from you, that is
- 8:41financial abusancial, yes, And then if somebody is forcing their their their religious
- 8:48beliefs on you or whatever it is, that that is spiritual abuse. Yes,
- 8:54you know, there's all types of abuse that we endure. Me personally,
- 9:00I never thought that I would be someone that would be involved in domestic
- 9:03violence. I remember seeing that that that movie The Burning did and I remember
- 9:09saying that if that ain't happening to me, that that's not happening to me.
- 9:15I would hurt somebody before that happened to me. And here it is,
- 9:18nine years ago, I was involved domestic violence. And I tell people,
- 9:24don't ever say what you will and won't do, or what you won't
- 9:30allow, because I'm telling you I was in such a dark place in my
- 9:33life too. I didn't know if I was going to coming. So it's
- 9:37not about me allowing anybody. I was just in a dark place and I
- 9:41did not feel like I was worthy enough for anything or thought I was capable
- 9:46of anything, just going through. But I think God that he spared my
- 9:50life, He gave me a second chance. He gave me an opportunity to
- 9:56be able to impact lives, to be able to share, and that's what
- 10:00we're doing inside of this devotional I would life for you guys to share a
- 10:07little bit about what your journey has been like as a domestic violence survivor,
- 10:11or advocate, whatever your role is as a person that has been involved with
- 10:20domestic violence. Miss Michigan will start with you. Okay, mine started when
- 10:28I probably was maybe sixteen seventeen years old, and you know, I got
- 10:35had a black eye telling me what I couldn't do. At first thought it
- 10:41was cute, you know, being concerned of I don't want you to be
- 10:46with this friend, and I don't want you to go on this street.
- 10:48And you know, I I hid it from my parents and certain friends knew
- 10:54about it. So I ended up getting pregnant and I married him, you
- 11:01know, and I was only nineteen years old. So during that time it
- 11:07was physical abuse, it was sexual you know abuse, and I mean I
- 11:15got my door kicked in numerous times. I called the police, but I
- 11:20had a restraining order. I called the police, but he used to play
- 11:26football for PAL, which was the Police Athletic League, so they would come
- 11:31to my house and kind of ask him why did he do what he did
- 11:37and just leave him there. And so a friend of mine helped me to
- 11:43get away where I was. I'm from New Jersey, so I was living
- 11:46in New Jersey at the time, and I ended up moving to New York
- 11:50and I basically left with a book bag with me and my kids closing it.
- 11:58So that was how I basically you know, got away from him.
- 12:03And then from that I started having strength, you know, and like you
- 12:09said, never say never, because I didn't grow up seeing my mother and
- 12:13father you know, fight with if whatever they did, I never saw it,
- 12:18so I didn't think that that would be me. And then I kept
- 12:22it a secret because I felt stupid or like people say, well, how
- 12:26could you let somebody do that or why can't you walk away? But my
- 12:31sons were eleven months apart, and I left him before my second son turned
- 12:37one, So I just like developed strength all through God, trusted in him,
- 12:43and just went on about my business. But I still am in contact
- 12:48with him because of my son, the one that can't see, and we
- 12:54just had an incident a month ago in Georgia. Like he doesn't put his
- 12:58hand or anything on me, but I just feel like he never did right
- 13:03by me and my kids, and I don't feel that he steps up to
- 13:07the plate for my my son. But I'm not scared anymore, you know,
- 13:13so and he knows that. But I just moved on with my life.
- 13:18I ended up moving to California from from after New York and I just
- 13:24found strength. I am remarried now, so you know, I was with
- 13:28somebody that took me and my kids and we've actually November's gonna be twenty nine
- 13:33years, you know that we've been married. But it was hard because I
- 13:39just kept it a secret, you know. And what I would do to
- 13:45encourage other women is they say it takes you about six seven times before you
- 13:50actually leave, But tell somebody I was in a domestic violence shelter, you
- 13:58know before from you know, just incidents that I was going through. I
- 14:03didn't go to work when I was supposed to because I had bruises and I
- 14:07lied, Oh I fell or oh I you know, I'm clumsy. I
- 14:13did different things. So I would just say, talk to somebody, reach
- 14:18out, there's resources, don't be afraid, pray. You know. Then
- 14:24you gotta think your kids are seeing this as well. And I had all
- 14:30boys. I didn't want them to grow up thinking that this is the way
- 14:33that you would treat a woman, you know, and like that. I
- 14:37definitely don't go for So I'm just saying it's like, have confidence in yourself.
- 14:45Know who you are, not what somebody told you you were, of
- 14:48what you're, not what you can accomplish. You're never gonna be anything,
- 14:52you know. And I believed a lot of that stuff, and then just
- 14:58one day, I just like, you know, I just woke up,
- 15:01you know, the cloud and the darkness was lifted, and I just was
- 15:07like, I'm not gonna take this, you know, anymore. And and
- 15:09that's how I left and survived and just started going on with my life.
- 15:15And I just trusted in God. And I have three granddaughters, and you
- 15:20know, I have a fear that they would go through something like that,
- 15:26but I think I'll probably end up in jail if they if they do,
- 15:31you know, because no, I don't want nobody. Nobody better not put
- 15:33their hands, you know, I never but just being a survivor, like
- 15:39I read somewhere where it said, I'm You're not a survivor, You're a
- 15:41thriver. So I I choose to call myself that and anything I could do
- 15:48for anybody. I kept my story a secret for years, years, years,
- 15:54trying to protect him because he's my kid's father, you know, and
- 15:58whatever. But you know that's over. I exposed him, and you know,
- 16:07he always tried to act like I was the crazy one, you know
- 16:10or whatever, But I mean, I just had so many injuries, and
- 16:15you know, who wants to be hit, you know, But I'm like
- 16:18I could take it, or I need to stay here for my kids.
- 16:22I don't have anywhere else to go, you know. But that's the past.
- 16:27So it's like reach out, who tells? Tell someone? Just tell
- 16:33someone and you don't know where that'll lead you to or what they can do
- 16:37for you. And then just have the confidence to know that you're a child
- 16:44of God and you're beautifully and wonderfully made and he knew who you were before
- 16:48you were in your mother's womb. And then just step out on you know
- 16:52it, with your gifts, your purpose and just you know, just do
- 16:56what you gotta do for you. But you you got stop it. Don't
- 17:00don't just think that there's no other Like, don't think you're the only one
- 17:03that's going through this, and don't think that you know, you can't make
- 17:10it alone, you know, without the person. So once I got away,
- 17:15I just never looked back. And like I said, I still have
- 17:18to see him and deal with him, and it kills me, you know,
- 17:22But he knows that, like them days is over and I'm not going
- 17:26for it anymore. I personally feel like now he acts like he's scared of
- 17:30me, you know, so whatever, you know, like too, what
- 17:34you gotta do. But he just know, like, don't come with me
- 17:38to me with that nonsense, because I started fighting back, you know,
- 17:44and then I had brothers and they were younger, and then my brothers was
- 17:48like, you know, I was a little boy when you was doing this
- 17:52till my sister at that time, you know, and you're not gonna do
- 17:55it now. So I have a support system I found straight within me through
- 18:00God, of course, and you know I'm here to just tell my story
- 18:07in any way that I could be a blessing. And if I just reach
- 18:11one person, you know that I will. I want to reach more than
- 18:15that, because no woman should go through that. But if I could reach
- 18:18one and then she reaches someone else, then I know that you know I'm
- 18:22doing my job. So that I think, Man, well, I thank
- 18:30you. I thank you for gathering the strength to move on and to press
- 18:38pass that allows you to be here today. So thank you for for just
- 18:44hunters and that strength that was already on the inside. Of us. See,
- 18:48we allow so much to the cloud our judgment and to keep us distracted,
- 18:52that we forget that we have strength on the inside of us. I'll
- 18:56tell you keep taking me back to Genesis two and seven when he says he
- 19:00breathe that breadth of life into us. So everything that we need is already
- 19:03on the inside of us. So I'm glad that you was able to press
- 19:07pass. I'm glad that you was able to walk away because I'm telling you
- 19:11I had to gather the strength because with me, I was foolish enough to
- 19:15go back. I was foolish enough to go back and try to work it
- 19:18out for the sake of a marriage and for the sake of a vow and
- 19:23and trying to you know, yeah, I was just that crazy and just
- 19:29that sick. But I tell you I was able to gather that strength to
- 19:33walk away, and I'm that's why I'm here today. So yes, I
- 19:37can't stop telling it. I just got to tell it all, and I
- 19:41got to tell it to the world. So yes, let Keisha, if
- 19:45would please let the people know what your journey has been like and what this
- 19:52means to you. It means a whole lot of releasing, releasing, rejuvenation,
- 20:00reevaluating all that. My first domestic violence issue was thirteen years ago.
- 20:11I was married, I wasn't I didn't listen to the hype in the street
- 20:15about the way he was. I wanted to, you know, see it
- 20:18on my own. And it came to the point where he shot at me,
- 20:26gave me a black eye, broke my nose, broke my finger,
- 20:30and he did all this in front of my kids. So it was like,
- 20:36Okay, yeah, I love him, I love him, My love
- 20:37him, I love him, work it out with him. It came to
- 20:41the point where it was so much botted up in me that when he got
- 20:48hurt, I wanted to hurt him some more. Because even when he was
- 20:55hurt, he still tried to put his hands on me, but I had
- 21:00the upper hand, so I put my hands on him. I didn't put
- 21:04it to the point where I left marks on him. I put it to
- 21:08the point where he knew I wasn't playing anymore. I got to the point
- 21:14where I called the police, and the police came get him, but they
- 21:17let him out. I don't know why, but they let him out,
- 21:21And when they let him out, I let him back in I did it
- 21:25more than three times until the last time. The last time was the last
- 21:30time, and I mean it was the last time. And he ended up
- 21:36going to jail in Louisiana because he did it to another female there, and
- 21:41she called me after she had me, had called my phone, threatening me
- 21:47and telling me, well, you left him, you did him, listen,
- 21:48you did him that, blah blah blah, And come to find out
- 21:53he was lying to her. She called me to help him get put in
- 21:59jail from the police if the police knew what he had did to me,
- 22:00because he had they had pictures. But I was dumb founded to all of
- 22:07it because of love and because not knowing my self work. I left that
- 22:14relationship thinking that the next relationship was gonna be different. But when you tell
- 22:18people what you've been through, they used that against you, yes, And
- 22:25it was used against me after I stopped being, as he said, obedient
- 22:30to him. You know, everybody used the Bible and say you supposed to
- 22:36be submissive to your husband, But you're not supposed to be dumb and submissive
- 22:41towards your husband. And that's what I was doing. I was doing things
- 22:45out of the kindness of my heart. Saying, hey, I want my
- 22:48marriage. I want my marriage. But then when my marriage went south,
- 22:53it was like, three years into the marriage, you gonna tell me you
- 22:56don't want the marriage. But then I stayed a bit longer. So when
- 23:02I stayed a little bit longer, and I started get into that mindset of
- 23:06okay, it's whatever. Nothing didn't bother me. He did whatever he wanted
- 23:11to, but nothing didn't bother me. Silence triggered him to try me,
- 23:22and he tried me. Bust my head open, bruises on my leg,
- 23:30stump my face. I had twelve staples, not stitches, twelve staples in
- 23:36my head. I was always told, don't tell what's going on in your
- 23:41household. So I was that quiet one, letting everybody do whatever they wanted
- 23:48to do to me. I found out after all of that that I'm me.
- 23:56I'm better off being me, not being no one else, not living
- 24:00for no one else. When I decided that I was gonna leave that marriage
- 24:07where it was, look at me now, the doors that has been opening
- 24:14for me, the way God has me walking. It's like I don't even
- 24:18look back at that to say, well, you know what, that was
- 24:21a downfall for me. No, that was a strength for me. It
- 24:26showed me how much I can do. It showed me how much strength I
- 24:32had to keep going. I never gave up. I was depressed for a
- 24:36little while, but I never gave up. And a lot of people will
- 24:41tell you, oh, well, you know, he go change and all
- 24:44this stuff like that. I'm not waiting for you to change. Once you
- 24:47put your hand on me, I give you a certain amount of time.
- 24:49But after that, I'm good because there's a lot of narcissis out there that
- 24:56I'll tell you they're gonna change, they're not gonna touch you anymore, and
- 24:59all this stuff like that. But yet instead they still do it. Give
- 25:02them a little bit of time, they still do it. They turn around
- 25:04and they do it again. And I didn't allow that in my life anymore.
- 25:07So now with everything that has happened to me, I can speak about
- 25:12it. Before I couldn't speak about it. Now I'm speaking about it,
- 25:15and it brings joy to my heart to speak about it because I'm helping others
- 25:19when I'm helping myself to heal, And when people tell you, hey,
- 25:25why are you talking about the past. My past is my strength. My
- 25:30past is my encouragement. I definitely don't look like what I've been through.
- 25:37I don't look like what I've been through. And I can tell somebody right
- 25:41now, just because you've been beat you've been battered, you've been scorn,
- 25:45you've been sexually abused, financially abuse, mentally abuse, lean on God ever
- 25:52lasting on, lean on him because if you're just in that room and you
- 26:00talk to him, he's gonna talk back to you. He's gonna talk back
- 26:06to him and tell you everything you need to know. And I know it
- 26:10because I did. I did it. I didn't try it, I did
- 26:12it. The song says trying and find out. I tried, I found
- 26:18out, and I still do it. So if you're going through any kind
- 26:25of domestic violence, any kind, speak up, call someone, text someone.
- 26:33If you're too scared to get out, text getting the bathroom, text
- 26:37go back and do what you're doing. You ain't gotta let him see it
- 26:41for get out, get help, get shelter, get protection for yourself,
- 26:47because it can end up like some of these young girls around here. They're
- 26:51getting killed because these guys want to be in control. Some guys getting killed
- 26:56because the females want to control them. Stop it. We have to stop
- 27:00somewhere. If you feel like talking, call me. My name is Lukisha
- 27:07trum Green on Facebook. Reach out to me. I'm not afraid to speak
- 27:11with you, and I'm gonna be really open with you. My life is
- 27:15an open book and I'm not afraid to share. Yes it myself. I'm
- 27:33sorry I had muted myself. I'm sorry. I just wanna thank you guys
- 27:41for your transparency and your willingness to share and to take on this project with
- 27:48me, because originally, when I wanted to do the project, I was
- 27:52originally going to cancel the project. Lukisha had inboxed me and she at it
- 28:00to me, when would everything do? And I told her, I said,
- 28:03you know what, I'm gonna push it back and I'm gonna release this
- 28:08book around my birthday. But God dealt with me, and He really dealt
- 28:14with me. He and I in boxed her back and I said, you
- 28:18know what, I said, We're gonna do this book. And I said,
- 28:22if you guys can do seven days of devotion, we're gonna do this
- 28:26thirty one day devotion. See all have I start the book look off with
- 28:32seven days of devotion. Micheling then you get seven days with Lakeisha and then
- 28:41I close out with the last ten days. But you get to spend time
- 28:45with us as well as spend time with God and get to know you and
- 28:49understand you. And we provide scriptures on words of encouragement prayers that hopefully we'll
- 28:56lift you up, encourage you if you are going through how you can overcome.
- 29:02These are scriptures that we used to help us through whatever we was going
- 29:07through. You know, one of my favorite scriptures and and and I kept
- 29:14going back to this scripture because when when God dropped this in my spirit in
- 29:18December of twenty twelve, it was Jeremiah twenty nine and eleven. And I
- 29:23questioned that scripture because it says that for I know the plans that I have
- 29:29for you, and and in this plans to to to help you, not
- 29:33harm you. So when I get hit with domestic violence in two thousand fourteen,
- 29:41you know, I'm like, well, where it's this this this this
- 29:44plan to not harm me, but this plan to for me to have hope
- 29:48in the future, and the prosper me, p prosper me. You know
- 29:52that the thing kept ringing in my spirit. But then he also said he
- 29:56would never leave you, nor forsake you. If we make our bed in
- 30:00hell, he's gonna be right there with us. But he never said he
- 30:06was gonna stay there with us. And we decide to stay, but he
- 30:08said he would be there with us. And that's when I wow that I
- 30:14had to understand that. You know, what did I do to put myself
- 30:21in that situation? How did I allow myself to get here? Because I
- 30:25allowed myself to get to a dark place? What was this dark place?
- 30:32And it took me going through domestic violence and going through that situation to understand
- 30:36that this hadn't been the first time that I had that with domestic violence.
- 30:38Like you, Missiling, I was in college. I was down there at
- 30:42Morris Brown College. I was dating a police officer. Thought I was doing
- 30:45something that I thought I was just the hot stuff because I had here it
- 30:52was I had me a police officer. Yet he was being abusive. Yeah.
- 30:56Yeah, he would pick me up on Fridays and and and and I
- 31:03had a car. Huh, Yeah, I had a car, but he
- 31:06would picking on Fridays. Before I can even get to my room. Good
- 31:11in my dorm, he was already outside my dorm. How do you know
- 31:15what room I'm in? How do you even know? I just walked in
- 31:18my room, Like, I'm like, how you know I'm here? It
- 31:22seemed like time I walk in my room, my my, my, my,
- 31:26my phone would ring. And you know back then we had at Beeple's
- 31:33when we have we have cell phone back then. Yeah, so we had
- 31:37the line in the school up every Friday, and I would be at his
- 31:44house the whole weekend. This man would go to work, come home,
- 31:48and leave me in his house all weekend long. That's that was what like,
- 31:52he would get away from my friend and and I's cute at first,
- 32:02until my friends started telling me why you don't come around them all, why
- 32:07you always did, why you always say you don't look happy happy? I
- 32:14didn't know what that was, because, like like a lot of us,
- 32:15we did experience domestic violence within our homes. I never, of course my
- 32:25mom and my dad were separated, but I never saw all any violence within
- 32:36my I immediately family. I never saw the messic violence, so I didn't
- 32:40know what it was, and then I lost my I was dealing with grief,
- 32:46going through grief and not knowing how to deal with it, not knowing
- 32:51what the what's going on. So I built up all these different walls and
- 32:54all this different stuff, and it just began to cloud my better judge,
- 33:00and that's how it slipped in. So when we get caught off guard,
- 33:06we let our guards down, and that's when it can slip in, and
- 33:09then it begin to take control and we don't know, we don't know,
- 33:15and then when we don't have those people in place that can help pulling out
- 33:19of those situations, and we just get deeper and deeper and deeper. But
- 33:24I think God out for individuals like you, like yourselves, that are willing
- 33:30to be transparent so that other people do not have to endure the things that
- 33:37we endured. So I'm grateful. I'm grateful. I'm grateful. I'm grateful.
