Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Now to the twenty billion dollar question. With this trade deal, New.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Zealand has committed to invest twenty billion dollars in India
- 0:10Speaker 2: over the next fifteen years. To commit to promote investment
- 0:15Speaker 2: into India from New Zealand.
- 0:16Speaker 1: It's got to Edwin Paul India Business Council Chair Edwin,
- 0:19Speaker 1: good morning, good morning right now, excellent result. Everyone loves
- 0:23Speaker 1: the FTA apart from Winston. But this question of promote
- 0:28Speaker 1: or invest, Now you heard the translation from Nerandromodi. There
- 0:33Speaker 1: was that accurate? Or is he saying that? Is he
- 0:38Speaker 1: purposely removing the word promote im not.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Don't want to get into that. Actually, I mean that's
- 0:45Speaker 3: for the government to nuance the wording, and it's agreed
- 0:52Speaker 3: between both the leaders. Both the leaders have gone public
- 0:55Speaker 3: and made those statements. So it really does not make
- 0:58Speaker 3: it an on the business community. We are focusing on
- 1:03Speaker 3: the outcomes and we've recently had the strategic partnership announced.
- 1:08Speaker 3: So I don't want to get into what the media
- 1:12Speaker 3: interprets between what each one says. I to an agreement
- 1:15Speaker 3: that trained.
- 1:16Speaker 4: I can understand that. The problem we've got now is
- 1:18Speaker 4: we've we've got an FGA that's signed we've got and
- 1:21Speaker 4: we've got our opposition party here in New Zealand with
- 1:24Speaker 4: Chris Hipkins saying to businesses here, go into this with
- 1:28Speaker 4: your eyes wide open. In other words, tread carefully because
- 1:33Speaker 4: it could all be called back on this one clause
- 1:36Speaker 4: that they're both speaking at different ends.
- 1:38Speaker 1: On the left end doesn't seem to know what the
- 1:40Speaker 1: right hand was saying. So, I mean, I appreciate what
- 1:43Speaker 1: you're saying, but it kind of is important, isn't it.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it's important, and that's why I think the Strategic
- 1:50Speaker 2: Partnership is a clear, measurable roadmap and it's got ten
- 1:55Speaker 2: agreements with eighteen defined outcomes, and it's sort of for
- 1:58Speaker 2: year period and I think will no sooner than later
- 2:01Speaker 2: as to what it is. And it's quite aspirational. And
- 2:04Speaker 2: I think the announcement of the roadmap on how that
- 2:07Speaker 2: can be achieved and measured over the four years is
- 2:10Speaker 2: the kind of the confidence that we're getting from the
- 2:14Speaker 2: from the government.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah, fair enough. When was it cool to see the
- 2:18Speaker 1: Prime Minister here over the weekend?
- 2:21Speaker 3: I think so he's a rock star.
- 2:24Speaker 1: He certainly had a big modicaide.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it's he's like a celebrity wherever he goes,
- 2:32Speaker 3: and I think he deserves the I mean, the clouds
- 2:36Speaker 3: love him right. So people may hate him for different reasons,
- 2:39Speaker 3: but what we see is like to fill a stadium
- 2:42Speaker 3: of that size and also not just an Auckland wherever
- 2:45Speaker 3: he goes, and I mean that's the kind of a
- 2:47Speaker 3: stone he's getting. And he's the longest serving prime minister
- 2:50Speaker 3: of India, I mean, in the largest democracy. So people
- 2:54Speaker 3: do love him and it was good to see that,
- 2:56Speaker 3: you know, in real life.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Good to have you on the show. It was always
