- Lucas: Hey there, welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for another tiny French lesson? Lucas: You know it. Today we're tackling ordinal numbers — first, second, third, and so on. Luna: Ooh, like 'premier'? I think I've heard that one. Lucas: Exactly! Premier means first. Let's start with that. Repeat after me: premier. Luna: Premier. Lucas: Perfect. Now deuxième — second. Luna: Deuxième. Lucas: Good. Third is troisième. Luna: Troisième. That's a bit of a mouthful. Lucas: You'll get it. Let's do fourth: quatrième. Luna: Quatrième. Lucas: And fifth: cinquième. Luna: Cinquième. Lucas: Great. Now let's put them in a mini scene. Imagine we're watching a race. Who comes in first? Luna: Le premier? The first? Lucas: Oui, le premier. And second? Luna: Le deuxième. Lucas: Third? Luna: Le troisième. Lucas: Nice. Now what about a building with five floors? The ground floor is le rez-de-chaussée, but what's the first floor? Luna: Le premier étage. Lucas: Exactly. Second floor? Luna: Le deuxième étage. Lucas: And so on. Let's practice a quick exchange. I'll ask you 'Quel étage?' and you answer with the ordinal. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Quel étage? Luna: Le troisième étage. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's review all five. Repeat after me: premier, deuxième, troisième, quatrième, cinquième. Luna: Premier, deuxième, troisième, quatrième, cinquième. Lucas: You sound great, Luna. Luna: Thanks. I can already use these in real life. Like, 'I live on the troisième étage.' Lucas: Exactly. And if you go to a French bakery, you might be the premier customer of the day. Luna: Ooh, I like that. Lucas: Okay, let's do one more round. Say them with me: premier, deuxième, troisième, quatrième, cinquième. Luna: Premier, deuxième, troisième, quatrième, cinquième. Lucas: Perfect.
