- 0:00Well, three games left for Gino's crew to Paul Sunday filling over next Wednesday,
- 0:06Gamble that it's the home finale for the regular season and then that Providence
- 0:10though sat this weekend is our last flight going anywhere for a while. January
- 0:17and February just see, I mean you mentioned in the past, but it
- 0:19just seemed to fly by this year because we were just so busy from one
- 0:22week to the next. Well, and this is what I tell the kids
- 0:26when they come back from Christmas break. I said, you know, once
- 0:31January first comes and it's the season really kicks into gear. It's it's like
- 0:38a downhill race in the snow, you know, it's like a ski race
- 0:46to the bottom of the hill. It just flies so fast because the games
- 0:52come on you so quickly, and before you know it. I said,
- 0:59here it is January first or second. And I said, the next time,
- 1:03you guys blink and you're going to look at it and it's going to
- 1:06be March. And that's exactly how it goes. Yeah, And it's like
- 1:10that. It's like that, you know, every year it just goes so
- 1:12fast. And the freshmen, you know, they think they have forever.
- 1:17They you know when they get here, you know, oh yeah, yeah,
- 1:19we're you know, we have forever, you know. And then all
- 1:23of a sudden they look up and it's March, and they finished their freshman
- 1:27year already, and they realized, yeah, it's fast. And and they're
- 1:34young. If they were our age, they realized it's really They don't realize
- 1:38how fast it really is, right right, you know. When they were
- 1:42when they were in grade school, summertime lasted three years, you know,
- 1:47they never went We're never going back to school. Now summertime lasts a week,
- 1:53you know. Here we're laughing out up there. Jack. We got
- 1:57one of the greatest personal trainers in America. Jack Smith up there. He's
- 2:05really really good. You can win and say, Jack, what do you
- 2:06think? How do I look? He goes, you should eat better and
- 2:07drink less. That'll be seventy five dollars. Thank you very much. I'm
- 2:14having a bike delivered tomorrow day. Go there you go. I need it,
- 2:16I know, I know. Oh Nica. Nica became the fifth player
- 2:23in school history to get to six hundred assists, but her path almost very
- 2:28different from any of the other five when you think about it, I mean,
- 2:31I mean Sue and D alone racked up I think senior year team had
- 2:38over eight hundred assists as a team, and I think they both had two
- 2:40hundred that year. Nica basically in the last almost two seasons, has been
- 2:46responsible for a big chunk of the team's assists. It's it's wild how that
- 2:52all develops. But it's all based on what you have and what you don't
- 2:54have. I mean Sue and d I mean they had they had each other
- 2:58to get the ball to. They had swim, they had Tamika, they
- 3:00had you know, that whole group there. But this is this is a
- 3:04little different. Yeah, players were better passers back then because they realized that
- 3:16I have to be a good passer. Ye now everybody thinks they can score
- 3:21one on one. So we had all those assists back then. And then
- 3:29here's the other thing. The reason you have a lot of assists, you
- 3:31have a lot of scorers because just because I can pass you the ball doesn't
- 3:36mean I get an assist. If you can't make that shot, if you
- 3:38missed that layup, or you missed that jump shot, there goes my assist.
- 3:44So those guys got a lot of assists because they played with a lot
- 3:46of great players that could score. So who were the five, the top
- 3:53five? Let's see, Well she just she's Rene, Rene's four. You
- 3:58know what, I'm gonna go. Look who number one? Mariah Mariah's number
- 4:00one. I think these two. Look who Mariah played with? You think
- 4:05Stewie talk, Steph Bria. I mean, just you know, that was
- 4:14plaina Miscatalo was like, yeah, if every time you passed the ball,
- 4:16it's a bucket. Of course, you can get assists pretty much, you
- 4:19know so much. Yeah, it's thanks. I didn't have to look.
- 4:24Yes, it's Mariah d Jen and Renee Mariah d Jen and Renee. Yeah,
- 4:30and he always and Susan not up there because she didn't play her freshman
- 4:32year, right, that's it. And she also had d you know,
- 4:36for a year and a half or so to you know, distribute the ball
- 4:40to So that was she didn't she didn't play freshman. She played eight games,
- 4:43right, and that was it, right. You know, it's funny.
- 4:46We were talking to somebody. I saw a video of Kalina in It
- 4:50was on one of the games. I think it was New Orleans, one
- 4:54of the final fours. I don't know if she gets enough credit I'm thinking
- 4:58of all the All Americans, Atlanta doesn't get talked enough about the first three
- 5:01time All American. Kleina was very underrated. Yes, she could shoot the
- 5:05heck out of the ball, we all know that. But every postseason game
- 5:10she ever played in Big East Tournament, American Conference Tournament, NCAA tournament,
- 5:14you always got double figures from her. And I think she was a very
- 5:16underrated rebounder. Kleena Miss Katia Lewis was one of the best basketball players we've
- 5:21ever had here, all around basketball players. She let the team in minutes
- 5:28played as a freshman, she played thirty one minutes and as a sophomore,
- 5:32and she was the MVP of the Big East Tournament I think freshman year because
- 5:36she really really really became a terrific basketball player. She could pass, she
- 5:43could shoot, she could screen, she could rebound. She just knew how
- 5:48to play basketball. And that's you know, that's a lost art that know
- 5:55how to play basketball. You know this kid, that kid's a shooter,
- 5:59okay, great, or that kid's a great rebounder. Great. She is
- 6:02just really, really, really a terrific basketball player. And when she shot
- 6:10it, it was just and that's probably why she played so many minutes.
- 6:17You knew that, like in a five minute span, maybe the game would
- 6:20end, you know, games tied. Next five minutes, she makes three
- 6:26or four threes, boom boom boom, boom boom, the game's over.
- 6:29She'll get a big rebound, she'll get a you know, loose ball or
- 6:33something. But yeah, no, she's yeah, she's way better than we
- 6:40remember. Yeah, I think of that separation. I think of the Dayton
- 6:42game, the Elite eight game in fifteen. She had seven in her row
- 6:46in the championship game in Tampa. But also Mariah hit a couple of threes.
- 6:51Tuck hit a three, hit a three. It seemed like every three
- 6:56in the second half of that fifteen championship game against so her name was a
- 6:59dagger time and they got like within six or seven, you hit a three
- 7:02and just demoralized them. Yeah. You we were looking at our team the
- 7:08other day and we thought, you know, you have to have scorers on
- 7:13the team. You know, you have to have scores, not just shooters.
- 7:16You have to have scorers because sometimes you know, the defense is like
- 7:20really really good, like we're not the only team that plays pretty good defense,
- 7:24and you have to be able to just say here, go get a
- 7:27shot and get us a bucket. And we had a lot of scores back
- 7:31then. You know, we put Maria in Bryo Hartley and claiming mis skated
- 7:36Lewis and Stephanie and Stewie out on the floor. So everybody, who yeah,
- 7:46I get it. Like when Diana was here and her team, we're
- 7:51standing there and lined up, and then the other teams were lined up over
- 7:56here. So I went over to her, I said, so, who
- 7:58do you think would win you guys or that team? And she looked over
- 8:03and went like this, man, they're good. They have like WNBA All
- 8:15Stars they have and d was the only All American on that team. So
- 8:18what d did those two years is off the charts, never to be replicated.
