Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / The Subliminal, the Subconscient, the Superconscient and the Circumconscient Forces That Impact Our Responses to Life
Transcript
- 0:01Our surface awareness is basically the tip of the
- 0:05iceberg. Most of what takes place in our
- 0:08being occurs outside of the range of our active external
- 0:11perception of the senses and mental awareness.
- 0:15Even the interactions with the external reality we experience
- 0:20represent only a small fraction of the input we are receiving
- 0:24from that external reality. Our range of perception and
- 0:29understanding is limited on all sides within a very narrow
- 0:32framework. While forces, factors, and
- 0:37influences from outside this range wind up impacting us, we
- 0:42are simply blind to these forces and the ways in which they
- 0:46influence how we perceive, respond to, and react to the
- 0:51world around us. Much of what actually moves us
- 0:55remains buried in subconscious memories, which can be triggered
- 0:59based on appropriate circumstances impinging upon us.
- 1:03It can be a sight, a scent, something we hear, or a location
- 1:09we visit that somehow triggers reactions that we had no clue
- 1:14were part of our being. We do not actually understand
- 1:18most of the impulsions that we nevertheless adopt as our own
- 1:21thoughts, feelings, emotions, ideas, concepts or directions,
- 1:29Sri Aubindo writes in his epic poem Xavi Tree.
- 1:33A legend and a symbol quote only a little of us foresees its
- 1:38steps, only a little has will and purpose.
- 1:42Pace, a vast subliminal is man's measureless part.
- 1:48The dim subconscient is his cavern base, and a portion of us
- 1:55lives in present time. A secret mass in dim
- 1:58inconscience gropes out of the inconscient and subliminal
- 2:03arisen. We live in minds, uncertain
- 2:07light, and strive to know and master a dubious world whose
- 2:12purpose and meaning are hidden from our sight.
- 2:15Above us dwells A superconscient God hidden in the mystery of his
- 2:20own light. Around us is a vast of ignorance
- 2:25lit by the uncertain ray of human mind.
- 2:29Below us sleeps the inconscient, dark and mute.
