- 0:05Speaker 1: The Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trek Podcast.
- 0:24Speaker 2: He's dancing like the like the gopher from grownog Day
- 0:27Speaker 2: or Caddy Shack, Caddy Shack.
- 0:30Speaker 3: There you go. Yeah, love it, love it going on?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Good morning, Hey, how's it go? Ahead?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Good are you doing?
- 0:38Speaker 3: I am just peachy.
- 0:40Speaker 4: Welcome to Trek Cast everyone, the Galaxy's Most unpredictab A
- 0:43Speaker 4: little bit of Unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
- 0:46Speaker 5: Just that.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm Scott.
- 0:49Speaker 4: This is a Daniel. So we're doing a supplemental. You
- 0:52Speaker 4: want to tell us a little bit about what's uh,
- 0:54Speaker 4: what's going on?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So we're gonna be talking about Batman the
- 0:58Speaker 2: Cape Crusader. It's the new anime series, the spiritual sequel
- 1:02Speaker 2: they're saying to the original Batman animated series. Very similar vibes,
- 1:08Speaker 2: but and a lot of the same team behind it,
- 1:12Speaker 2: but definitely different.
- 1:14Speaker 3: It's definitely different. Yeah.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not a sequel series. It's something like that.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But it's also got a lot of different producers that
- 1:23Speaker 2: you know of JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves, Bruce tim who
- 1:28Speaker 2: did the original series. So yeah, we will be talking
- 1:31Speaker 2: about it. We'll be talking about the first two episodes,
- 1:33Speaker 2: at least that's all I've seen at least.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that's I just finished off the second episode this morning,
- 1:39Speaker 3: so okay, perfect, Yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Jj Abrams. We know him from somewhere, don't we.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We do we do?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, he did.
- 1:46Speaker 2: He's done quite a few things, but specifically the updated
- 1:50Speaker 2: Star Trek movies on so and there currently still trying
- 1:55Speaker 2: to do the fourth film apparently or I don't know
- 1:59Speaker 2: about him, but yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Well it's always it's always fun to talk about that one,
- 2:04Speaker 4: at least, you know, once every other week.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Right right, there's always someone saying, hey, we'll do it.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Just yeah, yeah, So how was your week?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Scott?
- 2:15Speaker 4: Doing good, doing real good, looking forward to some some
- 2:18Speaker 4: upcoming projects coming out of Hollywood, and uh, you know,
- 2:22Speaker 4: there's a lot of I got a dog barked in
- 2:24Speaker 4: the background and hear it.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so again here.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Today right right, Yeah, my son had his birthday party
- 2:35Speaker 4: over the weekend, so about that.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Yeah, he just became a teenager, so.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah yeah, So now I have two teenagers,
- 2:44Speaker 4: one about you know when it just became a teenager
- 2:46Speaker 4: and one just going off to college here in a
- 2:47Speaker 4: couple of weeks. Yeah, yeah, it is yep, ye about
- 2:52Speaker 4: five years.
- 2:53Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, things are good. Things are good, how
- 2:57Speaker 3: about you? So far?
- 3:01Speaker 2: We also have a birthday coming up this week for
- 3:03Speaker 2: my nephew, so it's kind of funny for him because
- 3:08Speaker 2: his birthday is also his parents anniversary. So and it's yeah.
- 3:16Speaker 4: That can be kind of weird, like you got a balance,
- 3:18Speaker 4: like you know, it's like having two birthdays at the
- 3:21Speaker 4: same time, or birthday next to like Christmas or Easter.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so but it's a it's a weird event where
- 3:29Speaker 2: so it's his birthday, it's their anniversary. It's also like
- 3:34Speaker 2: right around the same time for the grandparents anniversary. So
- 3:39Speaker 2: all the family on on that side of the family,
- 3:42Speaker 2: my my brother in law's side of the family are
- 3:44Speaker 2: coming into town. Okay, apparents and and all that lot
- 3:49Speaker 2: going on, a lot going on, and so you know,
- 3:53Speaker 2: my nephew, the little guy's really excited because all of
- 3:55Speaker 2: his cousins will be there for his party.
- 3:57Speaker 3: So oh that's so cool.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so he's excited about that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, right on.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but we should get into the Star Trek news
- 4:08Speaker 2: because there's some crazy stuff going on.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yes there is. Let's do Star Trek News.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Sorry, didn't mean to cut you up, I accidentally.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Okay, I just said, let's do it. Let's do it.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, So our first news story, we might
- 4:24Speaker 2: as well get into it because it's the thing people
- 4:25Speaker 2: were buzzing about on the internet and technically not Star Trek,
- 4:29Speaker 2: but you know it kind of is the Orville season
- 4:32Speaker 2: four it? Yeah, it was announced at STLV, which is
- 4:37Speaker 2: currently going on, that The Orville Season four is slated
- 4:42Speaker 2: to start production, you know, at the beginning of the year.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Well is it. So this comes to us from from
- 4:52Speaker 2: a fan event at at STLV Star Trek, Las Vegas.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Scott Grimes, who plays one of the I forget the
- 5:00Speaker 2: name of his character on the show. It's been a while, okay,
- 5:05Speaker 2: Gordon mulaye. Okay, so he plays the actual actor. Scott
- 5:09Speaker 2: plays in a band. The band was performing at STLV,
- 5:13Speaker 2: so that's where we got this information. Apparently from the
- 5:15Speaker 2: stage he said, hey, guys, you know, thanks for all
- 5:18Speaker 2: the support, and we're coming back for season four starting
- 5:21Speaker 2: next year. People got excited. Yeah, people got excited, thinking, hey,
- 5:26Speaker 2: we're going to start filming next year. But the official
- 5:31Speaker 2: Orville podcast has since come out and they posted on
- 5:35Speaker 2: Reddit in a few other places that hold on people.
- 5:39Speaker 2: It's not that production starts next year in twenty twenty five.
- 5:44Speaker 2: It's that they begin the ramp up to production. So
- 5:48Speaker 2: starting next year, it's building the sets, making the costumes,
- 5:53Speaker 2: scriptwriting all of that.
- 5:55Speaker 4: There's another word for that. It's not production. It's oh yeah, production.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so okan term.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Yeah, technically, I mean, I look at prep if they're
- 6:07Speaker 4: gonna start production. A lot of people automatically assume filming.
- 6:09Speaker 4: But production doesn't start with filming. Production starts with writing
- 6:13Speaker 4: scripts and getting ready and signing deals and yeah, he
- 6:18Speaker 4: said building sets and stuff. So it's it's a long
- 6:20Speaker 4: way out. We're not going to see it in twenty
- 6:21Speaker 4: twenty five.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I don't think, no, no, no, no. I would say
- 6:24Speaker 2: early twenty twenty six or late or mid somewhere in there.
- 6:27Speaker 2: At the early.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm thinking summer of twenty twenty six are gonna
- 6:31Speaker 4: I bet they're gonna put it out there as like
- 6:32Speaker 4: a you know, a lull, like a summer lull kind
- 6:35Speaker 4: of show.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, probably probably that sounds about right. So yeah, so,
- 6:40Speaker 2: I mean, it's really not that far away, but it
- 6:43Speaker 2: is at the same time, it's not as quick as
- 6:45Speaker 2: people would like.
- 6:46Speaker 3: So that's but it's it's more than likely happening.
- 6:50Speaker 2: More than likely happening first Ted two. Ted Season two
- 6:54Speaker 2: needs to begin. That's the other thing which Scott Grimes
- 6:58Speaker 2: is part of. So he's going to be busy.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Yeah, ye, but yeah, Seth MacFarlane is a busy, busy guy.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, he's got to make that money. Baby.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Well yeah, I heard he throws like the most ridiculous
- 7:17Speaker 4: like Christmas parties and he lives up. So I used
- 7:20Speaker 4: to listen to Adam Corolla podcast and him and Adam
- 7:22Speaker 4: Coroll are friends. Adam Croller used to voice death on
- 7:24Speaker 4: Family Guy, and so he would tell stories and he
- 7:28Speaker 4: would have Seth MacFarland on, and I guess Seth MacFarland
- 7:30Speaker 4: has this giant mansion on the top of the hill
- 7:33Speaker 4: in Hollywood and he would throw these like, you know,
- 7:36Speaker 4: he call him little Christmas parties. But he had like
- 7:38Speaker 4: live bands and like open bars and you know, have
- 7:42Speaker 4: the best Hollywood caterers, you know, in the land.
- 7:44Speaker 3: So well, I mean he's doing all right.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got a few coins, He's all right, yep, yep,
- 7:51Speaker 2: he'll survive, survive.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 2: So that's the big update on the Orville. Everyone just
- 7:57Speaker 2: wanted to let you know about that. Speak of conventions.
- 8:01Speaker 2: So yes, STLV is going on currently, not a lot
- 8:03Speaker 2: of news coming out of it, but we are still
- 8:05Speaker 2: learning more. News that came out last week from Start
- 8:08Speaker 2: or from San Diego Comic Con, and one of the
- 8:11Speaker 2: big updates is coming to us from trekmovie dot com.
- 8:16Speaker 2: And we are learning a little bit more about Starfleet Academy,
- 8:19Speaker 2: including that it's going to be a new format for
- 8:23Speaker 2: the show and that Holly Hunter will feel very different
- 8:27Speaker 2: as a captain. So these are all nebulous terms that
- 8:33Speaker 2: mean whatever you want them to mean. The new format
- 8:37Speaker 2: is interesting because I don't know what they mean by that.
- 8:41Speaker 2: In the panel, Alex Kurtzman's mentioned that the show will
- 8:47Speaker 2: focus on the cadets, but also like the staff and
- 8:53Speaker 2: the people running Starfleet Academy. So I wonder if the
- 8:57Speaker 2: hybrid model that he means is like, we'll feel becus
- 9:00Speaker 2: on the adults and we'll focus on the kids.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I've been trying to read into that a little bit too,
- 9:07Speaker 4: And the more I do a little more research on Academy,
- 9:11Speaker 4: the more I'm starting to look forward to it a
- 9:12Speaker 4: little bit.
- 9:13Speaker 3: And because we weren't all.
- 9:15Speaker 4: That excited when they announced it because it's set in
- 9:17Speaker 4: the thirty third and a third century or whatever.
- 9:20Speaker 3: And I think now.
- 9:22Speaker 4: With the casting, you know, tig Nataro and Tilly and
- 9:28Speaker 4: you know, Holly Hunter is great. I think I think
- 9:31Speaker 4: they got some talent they can pull this off. As
- 9:33Speaker 4: far as the.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Format, Paul Giamatti's in there, Paul Giamatti.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:38Speaker 3: As far as the format, though, I.
- 9:41Speaker 4: This is supposed to have kind of a less serious tone, right,
- 9:45Speaker 4: this is supposed to be more, I.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Don't know, a little bit lighter.
- 9:48Speaker 2: So we don't know that for sure.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Okay.
- 9:51Speaker 2: The one that's supposed to be more comedy and fun
- 9:54Speaker 2: is that that show that that Tawny Newsom is working on.
- 9:57Speaker 2: The Well, what we were saying is like love Bode
- 10:00Speaker 2: in space.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Right, okay, right, right right, that's.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Going to be the comedy for sure, at least.
- 10:06Speaker 3: So I'm thinking.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Like the format, I'm thinking and I wouldn't mind this
- 10:12Speaker 4: more of like.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Modern family.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you know they could. That's kind of what I
- 10:19Speaker 2: thought too. We're like they had the confessionals where the
- 10:22Speaker 2: characters talk to the camera and kind of say their
- 10:26Speaker 2: opinion of what's going on.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's possible.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Format can mean just about anything, right, sure, sir.
- 10:33Speaker 4: It could be writing style, it could be storytelling style,
- 10:36Speaker 4: it could be right.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So it's it's very nebulous. There's also people have taken
- 10:42Speaker 2: this and ran with it that Paul Gimoni is going
- 10:46Speaker 2: to be playing a kling On because in the interview
- 10:50Speaker 2: he had meant in a past interview he had mentioned
- 10:53Speaker 2: that he wanted to play a Klingon, and then I
- 10:55Speaker 2: guess in the panel Alex Kurtman said, oh, the funny
- 10:58Speaker 2: that you mentioned that, and then they they called him up,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and so we were like, oh, so he's gonna play
- 11:02Speaker 2: a cling On and Starfie Academy. From what I can tell,
- 11:06Speaker 2: that's not confirmed anywhere that he's for sure klingon. We
- 11:10Speaker 2: know he's a bad guy.
- 11:12Speaker 4: You know, I just hope he's I mean, is he
- 11:16Speaker 4: gonna be like Goofy bad guy? Is he gonna is
- 11:19Speaker 4: he gonna be like the far Rang, like the Rhydoh yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 4: I'm thinking about me or maybe even his character from
- 11:26Speaker 4: the movie Sideways, which yeah, the second worst movie that
- 11:30Speaker 4: I've ever seen in my entire life.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Oh man, screaming about the blood wine is not merlow right? Yeah?
- 11:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I think they should redo that movie and make
- 11:40Speaker 4: the two lead characters Klingons. There you go, there, that's
- 11:44Speaker 4: that's my spoof million dollar idea.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I would love that. You hear me, Seth MacFarlane, make
- 11:49Speaker 3: it happen.
- 11:51Speaker 2: You can tell him the next time you go to
- 11:52Speaker 2: one of his parties. Yeah, yeah, so all right, looking
- 11:59Speaker 2: forward to it already comes to us from what is
- 12:02Speaker 2: this website? Radio Times dot com, and the bosses of
- 12:10Speaker 2: Doctor Who and Star Trek are urging fans to keep
- 12:14Speaker 2: campaigning for a crossover episode. So also during San Diego
- 12:19Speaker 2: Comic Con, both Russell T. Davis and Alex Kurtzman held
- 12:24Speaker 2: a joint panel for the friendship they're calling between Doctor
- 12:29Speaker 2: Who in Star Trek, and they urged fans, hey, keep
- 12:33Speaker 2: making that fan art, keep making those fan fiction stories.
- 12:36Speaker 2: We'd love to do a crossover at some time, but
- 12:38Speaker 2: you know, only you guys can push it over the
- 12:39Speaker 2: hill and make that happen. Which is weird because it's
- 12:44Speaker 2: literally the two showrunners insane. Yeah, yeah, it's on you.
- 12:54Speaker 3: It's all on you.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 4: I've never seen a single episode of Doctor Who, so
- 13:00Speaker 4: so I I guess I'll have to.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Start watching it. And people have told me I can.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Basically start at at at at the beginning of any
- 13:09Speaker 4: new doctor.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Right right, just what everyone seems the most interesting to you.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Start there, I think that's what I'll do. Yeah, so.
- 13:18Speaker 2: It's goofy, it's I think they just want, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 2: the uh the online buzz for franchises.
- 13:25Speaker 4: So and you know, sometimes these these UH crossovers, you know,
- 13:29Speaker 4: they come into fruition and you know, we get the
- 13:32Speaker 4: lower decks we get We've seen a lot of Star
- 13:35Speaker 4: Trek comic crossovers. I've seen UH Star Trek and X
- 13:41Speaker 4: Men crossovers in the comic books.
- 13:43Speaker 3: So you know, there's and it generates a lot of buzz.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And the very rare Star Trek and Golden Girls crossover.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Oh absolutely absolutely, thank you for being a friend.
- 13:57Speaker 2: That's right when Picard's saying that's a riker. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:04Speaker 2: because you should start with two thousand and five Doctor Who.
- 14:06Speaker 3: So, okay, chas biz Yeah, all right, two thousand I'm
- 14:10Speaker 3: writing that down right now, Doctor Who two thousand and five.
- 14:15Speaker 2: All right, and our last news story comes to us
- 14:17Speaker 2: from UH space dot com. And guess what we are
- 14:22Speaker 2: getting a lower decks comic book series coming this fall.
- 14:26Speaker 2: We have short runs you know, like a limited series
- 14:31Speaker 2: of lower decks, but apparently now we're going to get
- 14:33Speaker 2: a full on comic book, so that's cool. Sometimes this
- 14:38Speaker 2: fall it's coming out through id W Publishing and yeah,
- 14:43Speaker 2: so if you want more lower decks, it's coming.
- 14:46Speaker 3: You know.
- 14:47Speaker 4: The nice thing about doing a comic book about an
- 14:50Speaker 4: animated series is like, you know, I've seen comic books
- 14:55Speaker 4: from like next generation.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I'm looking at I'm like, why.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Did they draw Wharf like that he has reach are huge?
- 15:00Speaker 4: Or the doctor doesn't have like literal orange hair. It's
- 15:05Speaker 4: it's reddish at least this way.
- 15:07Speaker 3: When you're looking. I mean, I'm gonna would I would
- 15:09Speaker 3: imagine from like previous comic books that their characters look
- 15:12Speaker 3: exactly like they do on lower decks.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, because they're they're cartoons already.
- 15:16Speaker 3: So right, so yeah that won't be distracting.
- 15:20Speaker 2: No, not at all. But uh yeah, so that's all
- 15:23Speaker 2: the news. We should probably get to our supplemental spotlight.
- 15:28Speaker 3: That's good.
- 15:35Speaker 4: See, Okay, all right, so we were talking about it
- 15:42Speaker 4: just came out Batman Cape Crusader.
- 15:45Speaker 2: It's available on Amazon Prime Believe worldwide. It is an
- 15:50Speaker 2: animated series. Ten episodes have been released all at once,
- 15:54Speaker 2: but we're just talking about the first two episodes. First,
- 16:00Speaker 2: let's start with before we get into the story. You know,
- 16:04Speaker 2: we did get a new Batman voice, Hamish link Letter,
- 16:09Speaker 2: who was replacing you know, longtime voice Kevin Conroy, who
- 16:16Speaker 2: I believe originally was voicing it, voicing Batman for this show,
- 16:21Speaker 2: but he passed and so they had to do everything
- 16:24Speaker 2: with Hamish. What do you think of the new Batman voice?
- 16:28Speaker 3: You know, I liked it. It was fine.
- 16:31Speaker 4: The Batman voice is fine. It didn't seem out of place.
- 16:35Speaker 4: It's it's kind of hard.
- 16:40Speaker 3: I didn't watch a ton of the animated series, and
- 16:44Speaker 3: so when I hear somebody other than Kevin Conroy voice
- 16:47Speaker 3: Batman aka Bruce Wayne, it doesn't.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Throw me for a loop like it does some people. Right,
- 16:54Speaker 4: So I've I've heard different you know, iterations, different voices
- 16:59Speaker 4: for Batman, and and for the most part, they're almost
- 17:01Speaker 4: all just fine. Lego Batman Fine, didn't didn't bother me
- 17:04Speaker 4: at all. So yeah, other character choices, other choices where.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we'll get into that. We'll get into that
- 17:15Speaker 2: for sure.
- 17:16Speaker 4: It's also according to IMDb, it's also available for streaming
- 17:19Speaker 4: on free v So with that platform.
- 17:23Speaker 3: We probably have commercial interruptions.
- 17:25Speaker 2: But yeah, that's Amazon's free video service.
- 17:29Speaker 4: So okay, so if you don't have Amazon Prime, check
- 17:32Speaker 4: it out over there.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Yeah, So this Is This is designed very much in
- 17:38Speaker 2: a similar way to the original animated series, but they're
- 17:42Speaker 2: not connected at all. It's its own thing. I don't
- 17:46Speaker 2: think it's connected to any of the films. Doesn't look
- 17:48Speaker 2: like it. Even though it's a similar time period for
- 17:55Speaker 2: the Matt Reeves Batman to this Batman. They're both early
- 17:58Speaker 2: in their career there, both you know, kind of loaners
- 18:02Speaker 2: and and independent and all that. But yeah, the first
- 18:07Speaker 2: episode is probably the one that's got the most people talking.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Where they made a giant change. It was called in
- 18:13Speaker 2: Treacherous Waters and we got the debut of our penguin. Yes,
- 18:19Speaker 2: and uh, you know what what actor do they get
- 18:23Speaker 2: to voice Penguin? Well, Academy Award winner Minie Driver, because
- 18:28Speaker 2: penguin is a.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Girl now female?
- 18:31Speaker 2: Yes, okay, yeah, all right, So This Is This has
- 18:37Speaker 2: made the Internet. Some people don't care, some people are
- 18:39Speaker 2: really against it, and everywhere in between. Where were you
- 18:44Speaker 2: at with it? Scott?
- 18:48Speaker 4: You know, before I talk about my opinion on a
- 18:51Speaker 4: female Penguin should probably keep going and talk about other characters,
- 18:54Speaker 4: because at first I was like, what the heck is this?
- 18:56Speaker 4: This is weird, And then as they kept going, I'm like, oh,
- 18:58Speaker 4: they're making all kinds of shit, So I'm fine with it.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 19:03Speaker 4: There's one particular character and it's not who probably anybody
- 19:06Speaker 4: thinks I'm thinking of that.
- 19:08Speaker 3: I thought they did dirty.
- 19:11Speaker 4: And you know, well before we talk about that, like
- 19:16Speaker 4: there's let's talk about some of the other changed characters
- 19:18Speaker 4: that they made some minor changes.
- 19:22Speaker 3: They made.
- 19:24Speaker 4: The Gordons, Jim and his daughter daughter Barbara Black.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Totally fine with that. I loved Jeffrey Wright in The Batman.
- 19:35Speaker 4: I thought he played it awesome, Jim Gordon, so that
- 19:38Speaker 4: change doesn't bother me. The female Penguin, what they just
- 19:43Speaker 4: it seems like they just kind of wanted to do
- 19:45Speaker 4: stuff for just change it for change his sake, which
- 19:48Speaker 4: is fine with me.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I don't care. I can deal with the female penguin.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Yeah, if you can bring up a picture of Alfred Pennyworth.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they did him dirty.
- 20:00Speaker 4: They made him Alfred when when we think of Alfred Pennyworth,
- 20:03Speaker 4: we think of somebody either tall and slender or tall
- 20:07Speaker 4: and sort of a decent build, but he's definitely capable,
- 20:12Speaker 4: even though he's older, he's always been capable, uh slender, sophisticated.
- 20:19Speaker 4: They turned him into he looks like he could become
- 20:22Speaker 4: the penguin.
- 20:23Speaker 2: He's mister Belvidere.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Yeah, he's totally mister Belvidere. And they totally did him dirty,
- 20:28Speaker 4: like he looks like it's kind of like fat, pudgy.
- 20:31Speaker 3: You know, I didn't like him at all. Female penguin.
- 20:36Speaker 3: That's fine. Black Gordon's totally love it.
- 20:40Speaker 4: But yeah, that that dude looks like he could turn
- 20:44Speaker 4: into the penguin. Yeah right, Yeah, he's kind of short, pudgy, bald.
- 20:51Speaker 3: H didn't like it at all, and I didn't like him.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I didn't like it.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I I really didn't care about that myself, because I
- 21:00Speaker 2: don't know. In the cartoons, Alfred is more just emotional
- 21:04Speaker 2: support and you know, gives some hole liners. That's it.
- 21:09Speaker 2: You know.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I thought it was weird that Bruce called him penniworth.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Jess, he needs ozempic.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Oh oh oh, and zampic.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Maybe this Alfred stress heats. You know, Batman's out there
- 21:23Speaker 2: in the world and that's about it.
- 21:26Speaker 4: And he's just you know, he just spots him. He
- 21:28Speaker 4: doesn't actually work out with him, That's right.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Give me that Hogg and DAWs, you know.
- 21:34Speaker 3: And he called him Pennyworth, not Alfred that stuff. He's
- 21:37Speaker 3: weird too.
- 21:38Speaker 4: I don't know if there's any other iterations where he
- 21:40Speaker 4: constantly calls him Pennyworth.
- 21:41Speaker 3: But I mean you've known the dude for.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I know in some of the cartoon movies, Damien would
- 21:49Speaker 2: call him Pennyworth quite often, and very disrespectfully, you know.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Right, because they don't have that connection.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so whatever, Yeah, storyline, storyline, So what was the
- 22:08Speaker 2: storyline in the first episode. Basically that the Penguin's kids.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yeah that's interesting too, right, that the penguin has kids.
- 22:18Speaker 2: They're both they're all bumbling idiots, and the penguin is
- 22:23Speaker 2: actually the real power broker of Gotham, running all the
- 22:27Speaker 2: gangs and putting falcony, you know in check and uh
- 22:33Speaker 2: and Batman had no idea that the penguin existed. The
- 22:36Speaker 2: penguin is some sort of cabaret act on her casino boat.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I guess.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Yeah. That threw me off quite a bit.
- 22:46Speaker 2: The Iceberg lounges now casino boat.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Yep, So they were having a fundraiser on the Penguin's
- 22:53Speaker 4: yacht and yeah, Bruce Wayne was there. Everybody from Gotham
- 22:57Speaker 4: PD was there. It was I think it was a
- 22:59Speaker 4: law enforce like it was like a ball, right, a
- 23:02Speaker 4: fundraiser ball.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Yeah, And uh.
- 23:06Speaker 4: So the main story behind episode one is, uh, somebody
- 23:11Speaker 4: is outing the Penguin and she doesn't know who and
- 23:14Speaker 4: she's trying to figure out and somebody sort of whispers
- 23:17Speaker 4: in her ear hates your it's your one of your kids.
- 23:21Speaker 4: And her reaction was like, oh, it's one of my kids,
- 23:25Speaker 4: supposedly a kid that you know, I brought into this
- 23:27Speaker 4: world and just suddenly betrayed me and apparently because she
- 23:32Speaker 4: and loves and then bam just straight up murders them.
- 23:37Speaker 4: And then later on, oh, Penguin, it turns out that
- 23:42Speaker 4: you killed the wrong kid.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Oh that sucks. I'm gonna kill the other one. Like
- 23:48Speaker 3: what psychopath?
- 23:52Speaker 2: I mean part of it too, is it's a cartoon, right,
- 23:55Speaker 2: So like I I know, I don't have a lot
- 23:57Speaker 2: of time to delve into this psychological depths of what
- 24:01Speaker 2: it's like killing your own.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Child for your Oh of course, of course.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I kind of feel like I get what they
- 24:12Speaker 2: wanted to do it. To me, it felt like making
- 24:15Speaker 2: the the penguin female was a bone for for couseplayers,
- 24:22Speaker 2: you know, something for that to sell different action figures.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Now you got the girl penguin, that kind of thing.
- 24:28Speaker 2: But but the structure of the actual character, the way
- 24:31Speaker 2: she operated and all that, I feel like you could
- 24:34Speaker 2: have created a new character right right to me. To me,
- 24:40Speaker 2: it could have been I don't know, just throwing it
- 24:42Speaker 2: out there that doesn't have to be this like Mama
- 24:45Speaker 2: bear right, and she's got her cubs right yep, and
- 24:48Speaker 2: so she's for rosis and and you know she even
- 24:52Speaker 2: calls the kids like kind of that sixties vibe that
- 24:55Speaker 2: you know, a new a new character for that, I
- 24:58Speaker 2: don't know what.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they went in a weird direction.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's fine that it's the penguin. That doesn't bother me.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I'm just saying you had an opportunity.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Right right.
- 25:09Speaker 4: And I know it sounds like I'm kind of crapping
- 25:11Speaker 4: on this these two episodes, and and I kind of am.
- 25:14Speaker 4: And and it should be noted the internet is loving
- 25:16Speaker 4: the series.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yes, yes, absolutely, And I will say for me, the
- 25:23Speaker 2: second episode was a was a.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Big uptick in it was Yeah, it was better.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I liked it a lot. That's where we got
- 25:34Speaker 2: our clay face, yes, and a much different clay face
- 25:38Speaker 2: than what we've seen before. Oh yeah, yeah, this was
- 25:43Speaker 2: more akin to I think some of the original comics.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Basil Karloff is the clayface, and yeah, there he is.
- 25:54Speaker 2: He's not the big, hulking clay monster that we've seen
- 25:57Speaker 2: before in the animated series and in other films. He's
- 26:02Speaker 2: just a guy who can change his face. He's he's
- 26:07Speaker 2: very sinister. The backstory is that he is an actor
- 26:12Speaker 2: who just was tired of, you know, he was type
- 26:15Speaker 2: cast as a certain type because he was a looking
- 26:19Speaker 2: like a bad guy and didn't want to be a
- 26:21Speaker 2: bad guy all the time. Right, Yeah.
- 26:24Speaker 3: He was Gary Busey.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, not very attractive, you know, fairly decent actor,
- 26:31Speaker 4: but not very attractive, and he wanted to, you know,
- 26:36Speaker 4: look better.
- 26:36Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, and it just did not work out
- 26:41Speaker 2: for the guy. And then he he realized that villain
- 26:44Speaker 2: was the role he was born to play. And he's
- 26:47Speaker 2: trying to kill people at the studio that got in
- 26:51Speaker 2: his way. And it's a little bit of a more
- 26:55Speaker 2: of a murder mystery too, because he is clay Face
- 26:58Speaker 2: and he can pretend to be other people.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got that changeling kind of depth to the story.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so he's like tricking Batman. Apparently Batman interviews him
- 27:08Speaker 2: a couple of times and doesn't realize it because he's
- 27:10Speaker 2: playing different roles.
- 27:12Speaker 4: So yeah, at one point, like Batman, uh falls and
- 27:17Speaker 4: gets stuck underneath like a wall, and he calls Alfred
- 27:21Speaker 4: and he's like, yeah, you need to call nine one
- 27:24Speaker 4: one and let him know that I'm sorry. Oh yeah,
- 27:27Speaker 4: pennyworth Worth nine one one. I found the body of
- 27:32Speaker 4: so and so. Looks like he's been dead for a day.
- 27:34Speaker 4: The problem is I just interviewed him an hour ago, right, So.
- 27:38Speaker 3: That was kind of cool.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that was pretty neat. But yeah, so with all that, Scott,
- 27:47Speaker 2: will you keep watching the show? Will you watch the
- 27:48Speaker 2: other episodes?
- 27:51Speaker 3: I'm on the fence. To be honest with you, it's
- 27:53Speaker 3: not exactly my my genre.
- 27:56Speaker 4: It's it's got that noir style. Yeah, forties, fifties, sixties,
- 28:03Speaker 4: not quite sure when it takes place kind of thing,
- 28:05Speaker 4: which is the aesthetic is cool, but it's it's they've
- 28:11Speaker 4: changed a lot of things.
- 28:12Speaker 3: And yeah, like I said, I didn't. I didn't watch
- 28:14Speaker 3: Batman the animated series growing up. I've seen a few episodes.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I liked it. I respect it.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a lot of a lot of characters and
- 28:22Speaker 4: actors came from it. You know, Mark Hamill's the Joker,
- 28:25Speaker 4: you know, Kevin Conry's performance. Harley Quinn was born in
- 28:30Speaker 4: that series.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Right right, So yeah, that was the other point I
- 28:35Speaker 2: was going to make about like making Mama Bear instead,
- 28:37Speaker 2: like you created Harley Quinn, you could create another villain, you.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Know, right right, And I did a little reading up ahead.
- 28:43Speaker 4: They're they're also going to introduce Harley Quinn in the show.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Very different apparently, very different from what I read, you know,
- 28:53Speaker 4: in previous iterations. Harley Quinn is the serious doctor who
- 28:56Speaker 4: then becomes she's Harley and Quinsley, and then she Becomesley Quinn,
- 29:00Speaker 4: and Harley Quinn is this you know, goofy, you know character.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Apparently it's the opposite.
- 29:05Speaker 4: She's goofy and nutty as Harley Quinsley, and then when
- 29:10Speaker 4: she becomes Harley Quinn, she's very serious and like, yeah,
- 29:13Speaker 4: super super dark.
- 29:14Speaker 3: So that'll be an interesting.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I read that too. It sounds kind of cool
- 29:22Speaker 2: to me, I like the idea of a sinister Harley Quinn.
- 29:26Speaker 2: You know, yeah, yeah, I think from I read the
- 29:29Speaker 2: list of episodes and I noticed there was no Joker,
- 29:34Speaker 2: which was kind of interesting. So I guess if we
- 29:37Speaker 2: get a season two, maybe we'll get a Joker.
- 29:41Speaker 3: You know.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Maybe there's a tease for Joker. And I don't know
- 29:43Speaker 2: about it because.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I haven't seen one.
- 29:46Speaker 4: Yeah, but I wonder what kind of changes they're gonna make,
- 29:49Speaker 4: you know, for the Joker.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Like it, you know, he's gonna be like.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder if it'll pull from Matt Reeves because
- 29:55Speaker 2: we've we've gotten that Joker teas already in The Batman,
- 29:59Speaker 2: So will it be similar to that?
- 30:01Speaker 3: Right?
- 30:01Speaker 2: Will be another completely different take?
- 30:05Speaker 3: You know? That reminds me of a take I saw.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I saw a fan made film one time, yeah, called uh,
- 30:11Speaker 4: it was just called Joker and it it was about
- 30:15Speaker 4: the backstory to the Christopher Nolan Joker, oh and how
- 30:21Speaker 4: he came to be. If I find it, I'll post
- 30:23Speaker 4: a link on on our Facebook group. But it was
- 30:27Speaker 4: just a much more serious, like there was no maniacal laughing.
- 30:31Speaker 4: It was just him slowly becoming just crazy and evil
- 30:38Speaker 4: and I have a feeling that that kind of backstory
- 30:42Speaker 4: would fit, you know, instead of the you know, crazy
- 30:46Speaker 4: moniacal uh you know Mark Hamill version, you have this
- 30:51Speaker 4: sort of quieter, more dangerous, you know kind of and
- 30:57Speaker 4: I think that's an interesting you know, like.
- 30:59Speaker 2: There was, yeah, there was the fan theory in the
- 31:03Speaker 2: Nolan films that Joker was actually former special Forces that's
- 31:08Speaker 2: why he knows how to use all this military great
- 31:11Speaker 2: equipment and that's why he's so strategic. But yeah, he
- 31:15Speaker 2: basically got PTSD in war and that's why now he's
- 31:20Speaker 2: just crazy. Okay, So you could bring that into this.
- 31:26Speaker 2: You know, maybe maybe Joker fought in World War Two
- 31:28Speaker 2: because that's the timeframe, and now he's back suffering and
- 31:33Speaker 2: just has lost it. Yeah, that would be kind of interesting.
- 31:38Speaker 4: And no support if you have PTSD or soldier coming home,
- 31:41Speaker 4: it's called you know, back then it was.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Called shell shock.
- 31:43Speaker 4: So they could bring in that dynamic of of you know,
- 31:46Speaker 4: a soldiers maybe a special ops, special demolitions expert soldier
- 31:50Speaker 4: that crap, and you know, it's all.
- 31:54Speaker 2: It would be interesting to add that take to a cartoon, right,
- 31:58Speaker 2: m let's see. Yeah, that that's a lot. That's pretty
- 32:01Speaker 2: heavy for a cartoon, but it is.
- 32:02Speaker 4: But this, this is Batman, and you know this, this
- 32:06Speaker 4: show already kind of shows a darker side. You have
- 32:09Speaker 4: Mom's murdering kids, so kids, it's gone dark. Yeah, that
- 32:15Speaker 4: train has already left the station, baby, right, Yeah, they've
- 32:18Speaker 4: already done. They've already done the scene like what I
- 32:22Speaker 4: was talking about before where Batman is caught under a
- 32:24Speaker 4: wall and he sees two dead bodies. They already did
- 32:26Speaker 4: that shot where they show a fly walk off the
- 32:30Speaker 4: face onto the eyeball just chill out.
- 32:33Speaker 3: For a second, which is like a.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, So yeah, this is definitely the
- 32:41Speaker 4: dark night.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, the emotionally dark night.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll probably finish it. You said it was what
- 32:48Speaker 3: ten episodes.
- 32:49Speaker 2: There's ten episodes so old, they're all like twenty minutes each. Yeah,
- 32:52Speaker 2: I think you finish it too. I don't know if
- 32:54Speaker 2: I'm gonna hurry up and get them all done, but
- 32:56Speaker 2: you know, like after the show, I'm gonna go make breakfast,
- 33:00Speaker 2: might watch an episode while I'm chilling, you know, something
- 33:03Speaker 2: like that.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Ye.
- 33:04Speaker 2: But yeah, but it looks like we got chasm is
- 33:08Speaker 2: waiting already, So let's get sweet to feedback. Listener feedback.
- 33:19Speaker 2: All right, so let's bring him in there he is
- 33:21Speaker 2: jazz boos.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Listener feedback that rightback, Chas Biz.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Scott and Daniel Dan sleeping in today.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Yeah, he had a special Space Force mission.
- 33:37Speaker 2: That's right, that's right.
- 33:40Speaker 1: I flow that go as well.
- 33:41Speaker 4: So yeah, yeah, we're not we're not allowed to talk
- 33:43Speaker 4: about it. We're not even allowed to mention that he's
- 33:45Speaker 4: on a special Space force's.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Saving those dogs all the way cross the planet.
- 33:53Speaker 3: That was him that my dog was up barking at
- 33:55Speaker 3: a little while.
- 33:59Speaker 2: That's a long trip. Yeah, to Michigan, said jo just Bins,
- 34:05Speaker 2: would you think of a Batman keep Crusader?
- 34:08Speaker 1: I think I like your idea better, Daniel than the
- 34:11Speaker 1: way they casted the penguin. I was like, I don't
- 34:16Speaker 1: need the penguin to be a cabaret dancer and or singer. Yeah,
- 34:20Speaker 1: you know, I really didn't need that part, that's fair.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I was like when I saw I was like, really,
- 34:27Speaker 1: I was like, you had all these good people that
- 34:29Speaker 1: played the penguin in the past, right, yeah, being de Beato,
- 34:32Speaker 1: Burgess Meredith. Then you know it.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Was like Jessica Rabbit versus Colin Farrell.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and you have the new Penguin show that's
- 34:42Speaker 1: coming out on HBO.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'm excited about that.
- 34:47Speaker 1: That was great and that looks really cool because it's
- 34:50Speaker 1: going to be like a gangster show.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Yeah. I imagine Batman will show up like at the
- 34:56Speaker 2: very last scene.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it.
- 35:00Speaker 1: That series is so up in the air too because
- 35:02Speaker 1: of James Gunn if they're going to do another Batman.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Right, I I mean they were so far into doing
- 35:13Speaker 2: doing the Penguin that they'd do it.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:16Speaker 1: But yeah, well let's hope the Penguin does good that
- 35:20Speaker 1: they could make a sequel to that, because yeah, I
- 35:22Speaker 1: would love to actually like that movie.
- 35:24Speaker 2: So yeah, me too, Me too. I want to see
- 35:28Speaker 2: you know the rumors that are that, uh, mister Freeze
- 35:31Speaker 2: will be the next villain and then I've heard one
- 35:36Speaker 2: of the theories out there is that if you want
- 35:39Speaker 2: to do more grounded mister Freeze, don't do that. He
- 35:42Speaker 2: needs to live in a cold suit. But there's like
- 35:44Speaker 2: some sort of psychological issue that he loves the cold,
- 35:48Speaker 2: or that it's mister Freeze that the psychological issue has
- 35:51Speaker 2: a cold heart.
- 35:53Speaker 3: And he.
- 35:55Speaker 1: To Walmart and he's in the freezer section. That's right
- 35:58Speaker 1: to the cooler, talking about.
- 36:04Speaker 2: How he's got skills like.
- 36:08Speaker 4: And yeah, he starts attacking you with like cans of
- 36:13Speaker 4: air that he holds upside down and squeezes him.
- 36:17Speaker 3: It's so cold.
- 36:19Speaker 1: There you go, there you frost bite.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that's his canine companion. Yeah, come here, we can
- 36:33Speaker 3: come up with this crap.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Well, hey, you got mama bear right right, and then
- 36:39Speaker 1: you have the three cubs, and the three cubs could
- 36:41Speaker 1: be uh Scott, his brother Dan and his other breath
- 36:47Speaker 1: there Daniel.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I just had a great idea.
- 36:52Speaker 4: You see the scene where he's like, he's like, uh
- 36:55Speaker 4: a frost bite, come here, and you the camera pans
- 36:57Speaker 4: over and you see this great big like you know,
- 37:00Speaker 4: white Siberien husky and then the camera pans down to Chuala.
- 37:04Speaker 1: There there you go, or like Deadpools.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Likely that was horrible, but call.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Me so yeah, are you gonna watch the rest of
- 37:23Speaker 2: the episodes?
- 37:25Speaker 1: I was on four and a half last night. Okay, alright,
- 37:29Speaker 1: I watched the first two because you didn't specify how
- 37:31Speaker 1: many episodes.
- 37:32Speaker 2: So yeah, typically it's for cartoons or whatever we try
- 37:36Speaker 2: to do to.
- 37:37Speaker 1: The first two, but it's I grew up with the
- 37:40Speaker 1: other one.
- 37:41Speaker 2: So yeah, me too, watch it every.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Day after school and yeah, that was like one of
- 37:48Speaker 1: my favorite shows. And this I don't know, it's not
- 37:54Speaker 1: there's something different about it.
- 37:56Speaker 3: I don't know what.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean different animation style, but yeah yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 1: And the other question is where's man.
- 38:06Speaker 2: I just I can't wait for them to debut Clock King?

- 39:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, because you know, I've seen pictures, but it
- 39:05Speaker 1: just doesn't look as big as I don't know if

- 39:11Speaker 1: week before.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Yeah, comic Con, which is so huge this year.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Yeah, because overshadowed.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I really wish comic Con would move to Vegas
- 39:19Speaker 1: because it makes it easier to get to those venues.
- 39:24Speaker 2: There's many they're going to move it. There's talk that
- 39:27Speaker 2: they're going to be.
- 39:28Speaker 1: They price scows at San San Diego.

- 40:34Speaker 2: that it is.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, it's it's kind of girks. You know,
- 40:42Speaker 1: it's ridiculous how much they charge for the drinks there, Oh,
- 40:47Speaker 1: for sure, because you see fifteen hundred dollars, you're like
- 40:50Speaker 1: for one shot. I was like, that better be the

- 43:40Speaker 2: you want to tip the robot?
- 43:45Speaker 4: That's insane? Yeah, that's just say what it is. I mean,
- 43:48Speaker 4: it's an extra fee because we have a robot here
- 43:50Speaker 4: or whatever. Just be honest with me, right.
- 43:52Speaker 3: That's one of the things I like about chop Teas.
- 43:53Speaker 3: You know, it's it's upfront pricing so and their quality
- 43:57Speaker 3: T shirts.
- 43:58Speaker 4: You know, when I got the T shirt and you know,
- 44:00Speaker 4: I have to wear one hundred percent cotton, and they
- 44:01Speaker 4: have one hundred percent cotton T shirts available, and sometimes
- 44:05Speaker 4: when you order T shirts from these companies, it's they're
- 44:07Speaker 4: flimsy and the stuff that you know, the the emblem
- 44:11Speaker 4: is a little not so these emblems are the T
- 44:14Speaker 4: shirts themselves super high quality.
