- 0:13Welcome to The 405 Payroll, where Oklahoma City's live hiring news becomes something
- 0:18you can use before the workday ends.
- 0:21I'm Claire Brooks, and here's the number we're building around.
- 0:24A common entry level wage in the metro sits near $16.08 an hour,
- 0:28about $33,446 a year at full time hours.
- 0:32Now look at what's posted right now.
- 0:35Hobby Lobby's distribution center in southwest Oklahoma City starts full time
- 0:39workers at $21.00 an hour.
- 0:41US Foods lists night warehouse selectors at $23.64.
- 0:46And the City of Oklahoma City has equipment operator and parks trades roles starting
- 0:51at $22.65.
- 0:53I'm Miles, and I like to do the math out loud, because that's how I believe numbers.
- 0:58$21.00 minus $16.08 is $4.92 more per hour.
- 1:03Across a 2,080 hour work year, that comes to $10,233.60.
- 1:10Claire, what does that look like in a month?
- 1:12Roughly $850 extra a month, before taxes, so your actual check will land a little
- 1:17lower.
- 1:18But that's the kind of difference you feel when the first of the month shows up,
- 1:22and it doesn't ask you to work a single extra hour.
- 1:25Now, posted pay is posted pay.
- 1:27These are listings, not guarantees, and your offer depends on the role,
- 1:31the shift, and the employer.
- 1:33What I do like is the experience question.
- 1:35Hobby Lobby's listings say assembly line, warehouse, or manufacturing experience is
- 1:40preferred, but not required.
- 1:42Which matters if you've been working hard in retail or food service and assume
- 1:46warehouse doors are closed to you.
- 1:47At that employer, they aren't.
- 1:49And overtime shows up too.
- 1:51The Hobby Lobby listings mention it, and a US Foods night forklift listing says
- 1:56associates typically average 45 to 50 hours a week.
- 1:59So that's the headline.
- 2:01Is that the whole plan?
- 2:02Not even close.
- 2:03A raise is step one.
- 2:05Today we'll cover who's hiring and exactly how to apply, then an evening training
- 2:09program here in the city that points toward $28 an hour or more.
- 2:13After that, a few ways to bring in cash this week, and the local help that keeps a
- 2:18bigger paycheck steady.
- 2:19And we'll stay honest about what we know.
- 2:21When a number comes from a job listing, we'll say so.
- 2:24When it's our own arithmetic, we'll say that too.
- 2:26Good, because you're short on time and money, not on effort,
- 2:30and you deserve numbers you can check.
- 2:32Where do we begin?
- 2:33With the city itself, since it has the most structure.
- 2:36Let's go meet the employers.
