- 0:07Welcome back to the Simply Christ podcast hosted by Leon
- 0:11Martin, along with Aaron Keaton, Melvin Martin, Andrew Schrock
- 0:15and Dan Blatz. Let's get right to it.
- 0:18So yeah, we're going to get it kicked off here.
- 0:22Like I always say, you can see previous episodes of this at
- 0:27Simply Christ Ministries. You can Google that and find all
- 0:29the links to the proper places there.
- 0:31Give us a like and a share that helps everything out too.
- 0:33Appreciate it if you could do that.
- 0:35So without further ado, I'll let Aaron open us up with a word of
- 0:38prayer. Our most holy and righteous
- 0:41Father, we are thankful for your word and we just pray that this
- 0:46would this talk that we have would wet somebody's hunger for,
- 0:52for your word that we might be able to encourage people and and
- 0:58grow their appetite and their desire for your word.
- 1:01And just pray that you'd reveal the the truth that's in it to
- 1:04us, guide us and help us to only say those things that are true
- 1:09and profitable. And just pray your father that
- 1:11we would also grow in our understanding of who you are and
- 1:17get to know you better. We want to be like Paul said he
- 1:22was and we want to know whom we believed and we just prayed.
- 1:25That is something that we would all learn and be able to
- 1:28encourage others in. Just ask you to watch over us as
- 1:32we do this. Make it be a blessing to those
- 1:35that hear it. And all these things we ask in
- 1:37Christ's precious name, Amen. All righty.
- 1:42We're going to be in Colossians chapter 2 and we're going to
- 1:45start in verse 13 tonight. That is where we're going to
- 1:49while you're turning there. I saw that, Dan.
- 1:54Was it this week that you found those mushrooms up there?
- 1:58I think it's, I think it's probably been the last three to
- 2:01four weeks that we've been finding them and most springs
- 2:05will find a few like a handful here and there.
- 2:08But this year, I don't know. I think maybe we, we kept the
- 2:10cows off the pasture a little longer trying to let the grass
- 2:13grow back. And it seems like right there,
- 2:15they're just popping up like almost every day the last week
- 2:18or so that kids come in with another big stainless steel bowl
- 2:22full of full of Morel mushrooms. Sure.
- 2:24So do you find them in a certain area kind of like a a wetter
- 2:27drier area or around certain? Trees or oh, always right after
- 2:31a rain. It seems like they pop up real
- 2:33quick. Used to be we'd find them up the
- 2:36road a little ways when we were walking right beside the trees.
- 2:39It seemed like there was just the one spot where they'd come
- 2:41up, but it's kind of sporadic. And then now it was in a certain
- 2:44section of the pasture under the trees.
- 2:46After a good rain they pop up real quick so.
- 2:49Sure. Interesting.
- 2:50Yeah, they haven't really good on.
- 2:51On omelets and stuff. Oh man, we, we, when we'd get
- 2:56them, we always slice them in half and soak them in salt
- 2:59water. Then we'd fry them with just
- 3:01just in a pan with butter, OK? Just eating my my 14 year old,
- 3:06he loves putting little things together and doing stuff.
- 3:08He cut them, slice them in half the other day and then he put
- 3:11like a jalapeno popper dip stuff inside there and then I'd bake
- 3:15them like that. And he was really excited to to
- 3:17present that to me. They were really good.
- 3:20How tall? How tall is the ones you find?
- 3:22Like how big? I would say the biggest that
- 3:24we've had. My son came in today holding one
- 3:26behind his back. I says, remember the one I
- 3:28showed you yesterday and then he came in with another one.
- 3:30It was I I would say at least my hand length.
- 3:33Oh wow, from. The bigger one.
- 3:35Don't they say that grow under a certain tree, like a certain
- 3:40kind of tree, like a Birch tree or something?
- 3:43I was going to be quick. Though around here they they say
- 3:46to watch, you know the ash trees, they got that emerald ash
- 3:49borer. So all the ash trees are dead or
- 3:51dying and we are we were always told to look around those that
- 3:55the the bark is especially on the ones where the bark is
- 3:58coming off because the the bark traps the spores.
- 4:01So when that falls off then they and and the few.
- 4:04I haven't haunted for a couple years, but we found one time we
- 4:08hit a honey hole just up the road from our house where we
- 4:12found grocery bags full under basically all under one tree and
- 4:16then two years later there was none there.
- 4:18You know I don't. Know my my wife had heard
- 4:21somewhere too that maybe there's a chance you know, blend them up
- 4:24and throw them in a certain spot.
- 4:26Maybe next year something will, you know, come up, but.
- 4:30Yeah, I did see online one time where you can buy like some sort
- 4:34of kit that has the spores in it.
- 4:36And then you take it out in your backyard and you, like you were
- 4:40saying, you put it in water and you spread it out on the ground
- 4:43and then supposedly they'll come up there.
- 4:45But does it work? I don't know that because you
- 4:49can't farm them like you can't grow them like a farm, like a
- 4:53regular mushroom. It's not possible.
- 4:56Yeah, yeah, it at least not with any accuracy.
- 4:59I see. I was Googling it and you can
- 5:01find farms that sell Morel mushrooms but so there must be a
- 5:05way to kind of make them grow or another.
- 5:07But anyway, I misspoke. That was not ash trees, those
- 5:10were Elm trees that. Have that I was going to say Elm
- 5:13and then I found here you find them around Sycamore trees a lot
- 5:17as well. Like if you you know apple tree,
- 5:22any kind of fruit tree was apartment to have them.
- 5:27You're a logger, Aaron, right? So do you find any walking
- 5:31around out? I mean, you're out of the woods
- 5:32all the time. Yeah.
- 5:33Oh, yeah, it yeah, it's totally year by year.
- 5:37Like there's years that, like you said, I'd find them by the
- 5:40grocery bag full. And then just like this year it
- 5:43was kind of dry, not a very pretty dry spring.
- 5:47And and I found very few this year.
- 5:50But I mean, there's been years that I've got picture after
- 5:53picture of the counter lined with them, but it just depends
- 5:56on the year. But.
- 5:58So around here, like the, we call them the little Grays.
- 6:01They're two inches, 2 1/2, maybe 3 tall.
- 6:05They'll come a little earlier once you see those and you'll
- 6:07watch for the white ones that'll come, you know, a couple days
- 6:10later. And I'm I'm the a Facebook group
- 6:14mushrooms in Iowa or something like that, Morels in Iowa.
- 6:16And then you can see it come up the tiers of counties.
- 6:19You know, people will post when they're fighting them and it
- 6:21just comes up through there. It takes, you know, about a
- 6:23three-week, four week period from the South border to the
- 6:26north as people are finding them.
- 6:28So it's kind of cool how that works.
- 6:31Yeah. Anyway, we'll get into the word
- 6:33talking about honey holes and mushrooms.
- 6:36I think we've got a killer next ahead of us that.
- 6:39Was a nice segue. Yeah, right.
- 6:42Well, I was I was reading ahead here and I just I find this
- 6:47really interesting and I'll let let you go ahead then with verse
- 6:5113 there. But we just got we just got talk
- 6:54done talking about being buried with him in baptism where his
- 6:58reality is ours. We basically get to experience
- 7:03what Christ did and we get the victory that he made for us
- 7:06since we're in him. Whatever happened to him was was
- 7:09a reality for us as well and we're asked to believe that not
- 7:15necessarily maybe experience it so much, but I think we do to a
- 7:18degree. But through the IT says you are
- 7:21risen with him through the faith of the operation of God who hath
- 7:24raised him from the dead. And verse 13 and you being dead
- 7:28in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh
- 7:31hath he quickened together with him having forgiven you all
- 7:35trespasses. And I'm going to read the next 4
- 7:39verses to because it's one sentence and I want to read the.
- 7:43You can go back and just come in on 13.
- 7:47So he says, having forgiven you all trespasses, rotting out the
- 7:50handwriting of ordinances, which was against us, which was
- 7:54contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his
- 7:59cross, and having spoiled principalities and powers, he
- 8:03made a show of them, openly triumphing over them in it.
- 8:08So there's a purpose here and and and we'll see their egos on
- 8:12to say then that let nomad therefore.
- 8:15So he's saying this stuff with a with a conclusion coming.
- 8:19And so anyway your your comments on verse 13 to get started then.
- 8:25You're muted. I got you muted yet still.
- 8:29Yeah, it was me. I was having a bit of technical
- 8:32difficulty hearing you guys, so I just muted it in case it was
- 8:34on my end. I wasn't sure.
- 8:35So yeah, it's this is obviously still one flow, one argument.
- 8:40He's he's talking about what actually happened to us at the
- 8:45cross. And I think a lot of
- 8:47Christianity has missed this. It's kind of like a Christianity
- 8:50is basically evangelism is a presenting a ticket to heaven.
- 8:54One day you will be able to go to heaven if you die.
- 8:57And that's great news. You know that Christ died for
- 8:59your sins. You're sick.
- 9:00Your sins are forgiven when you die, you'll go to heaven.
- 9:03But there's something that happened to us and something
- 9:07that Christ did for us that gives us new life and new
- 9:11purpose and new power in the here and now.
- 9:14So he said we were buried with him in baptism.
- 9:16And we pointed out last week that it's a spirit baptism into
- 9:20the body of Christ. And now through the faith of the
- 9:23operation of God, we are raised from the dead with Christ.
- 9:26And he then he goes back to saying and you being dead in
- 9:30your trespasses or being dead in your sins and uncircumcisional
- 9:34of your flesh, He's presenting us the reality of what our life
- 9:39was like when we were in the flesh.
- 9:42That's how Romans Chapter 7 puts it.
- 9:44When ye were in the flesh, the motions of sin which were in the
- 9:47flesh ruled us, right? And so he says wet and you being
- 9:52dead in your sins, in the uncircumcision of your flesh.
- 9:55We we talked about circumcision last week a little bit, how we
- 9:58don't want to have progressive circumcision happening, just
- 10:01like progressive sanctification should not be a thing unless you
- 10:04want to deal with progressive circumcision and it happens all
- 10:08at once. And what happens in circumcision
- 10:10is a very external thing. You pulled up the external part
- 10:15of the member, you chop the thing off and you discard it so
- 10:18that the inner member is exposed.
- 10:21As gruesome and as grotesque maybe as that sounds, that is
- 10:25the image that he's giving us here of our salvation.
- 10:28This outer man is akin to the foreskin of the male member,
- 10:34something that should be ripped away, chopped off, and
- 10:37discarded. But when we were in the flesh,
- 10:40when we were yet in our sins, we were dead in our sins and the
- 10:44uncircumcision of our flesh. He's not talking about whether
- 10:48or not your male member was circumcised.
- 10:50He was saying that while you were living in your sins, you
- 10:54are an uncircumcised person and God wants circumcised people.
- 10:58And he again, he's not referring to the physical member here.
- 11:01He's talking about your body. He's repeated this again and
- 11:04again and again. The body of the sins of the
- 11:06flesh, the faith of the operation of God has cut us away
- 11:10from the body. The body has been counted null
- 11:13and void. We have been made free from the
- 11:15body of sin. And you know, that's, that's
- 11:18kind of the language that he's using here.
- 11:19So we have been quickened together with him.
- 11:23So the old man, the body of flesh, the outer man, the skin
- 11:27of the man was crucified with Christ.
- 11:29And then we were raised together with Christ, so that we can say
- 11:32with Paul in Galatians 220 I am crucified with Christ.
- 11:36Nevertheless I live yet not I, but Christ live within me the
- 11:39life which I now live in the flesh.
- 11:41I live by faith, the Son of God who loved me and gave himself
- 11:44for me. So there's a reality that God is
- 11:47presenting to us that our physical reality argues against.
- 11:53Our sight, our smell, our hearing, our tasting, our
- 11:55touching tells us this is our reality.
- 11:58God says this is your reality. And they argue against each
- 12:02other. And we live not by faith.
- 12:04We live rather or we live not by sight, rather we live by faith.
- 12:08This is what the challenge of living the Christian life is
- 12:12supposed to be. Here's what you feel is your
- 12:14reality. Here's what God says is your
- 12:16reality. You feel like you're alive to
- 12:19sin and uncircumcised still, perhaps the Bible says if you've
- 12:23placed your faith in Jesus, you were dead in your sins, you were
- 12:26uncircumcised, but he's quickened you together.
- 12:29You were baptized with him, you were put to death and you're
- 12:32raised to new life. And obviously I could go on and
- 12:35on. I'd love to read from Romans 8,
- 12:36seven through 10 and and Ephesians 2, five and six, but
- 12:40I'll give you guys a chance to time in there.
- 12:41There's there's so much that can be said on this topic.
- 12:45Right. So much to be said and I
- 12:46appreciate your input. That's good, Aaron.
- 12:50I've really got two things to say.
- 12:52I guess 1 is that this is going to be, I think there's going to
- 12:58be really important to, as you said, the following argument in
- 13:03verse 16, because, and I don't want to jump too far ahead, but
- 13:08it's really important to remember this because some I
- 13:10actually had a guy tell me one time like he was, he was saying
- 13:13that verse 16 was saying, yeah, you shouldn't judge somebody
- 13:18else for doing for not eating certain meats or, you know, like
- 13:21trying to keep the law. He was, he was turning it around
- 13:23the exactly the opposite of what it says and saying you shouldn't
- 13:27judge a person for doing these things.
- 13:30But the reason that's so false is because I think this is one
- 13:34of the verses, and if you look it up, the people at Colossi
- 13:37were mostly Gentile. This is not a bunch of people
- 13:40that were already doing these things, right?
- 13:43They're being encouraged to do these things, but they're not
- 13:45already doing these things. So when he says you being dead
- 13:49in your sins and the uncircumcision in your flesh,
- 13:52that is an argument for this conclusion.
- 13:56Like these are not Jewish people.
- 13:57These are Gentile people that may be being pressured to do
- 14:02these Jewish things, but they're not already doing that.
- 14:04They were dead in their sins. They were uncircumcised,
- 14:07literally and in what they did. So that's one thing.
- 14:10The second thing is, as I was talking to a guy today and he
- 14:14was kind of, he wasn't really arguing it, but he was making
- 14:18the point that he said he didn't really understand the Bible.
- 14:24And he said, you, there's things you can't understand in the
- 14:28Bible until you're saved. And I said, you're right.
- 14:31Like that's true. God does through the Spirit give
- 14:34us some revelation and the Spirit reveals things to us.
- 14:38There's things that are spiritually discerned.
- 14:40But I said there is this crossover in which these people
- 14:47were they went from dead in their sins to believing the
- 14:52gospel almost basically instantaneously.
- 14:55So it's not why that's what I told him you, it's not like you
- 14:58can put this cart before the horse.
- 15:00You can't get the Spirit so that you can understand enough to be
- 15:05saved. Is that make sense?
- 15:06In other words, he's saying these people were going along
- 15:10dead in their sins. They hear the gospel and it is
- 15:15revealed to them and they go and they have a instantaneous
- 15:19transition from being dead in their sins to quickened and made
- 15:23alive, right. I mean, it is just a it, they
- 15:27just go from one to the other. So there is something I said
- 15:31that because what the guy said. There is.
- 15:33Something there is truth in the fact that the Spirit does reveal
- 15:37things and there's things that are only spiritually discerned.
- 15:41But everybody that ever was saved went from dead and sins to
- 15:46believe in the gospel and being saved, right, You know, and the
- 15:51the the down payment for that belief was the Spirit, right?
- 15:56I mean, that's what he says. It's the earnest of our, you
- 15:59know, like that. That is the down payments for
- 16:01that. So there is A to me that's
- 16:04great. That's very encouraging because
- 16:06the guy, I think, I guess maybe I should be explaining it back
- 16:10to her. I think the guy was trying to
- 16:14catch himself up with I can't understand the Bible, so
- 16:19therefore I can't be saved. I don't you only understand the
- 16:22Bible by having the spirit. And it was almost like this hang
- 16:25up like he couldn't he felt like he needed the one before the
- 16:30other. And I said no, it's I mean,
- 16:33either it has to be some overlap there in which the person that
- 16:36is just dead in their sins believes something that is a
- 16:40simple story about a man and salvation comes from that.
- 16:44And I think that that's what you see being dead in your sins and
- 16:47uncertainty. Flesh hath he quickened together
- 16:50with him. So it was just this thing that
- 16:52happened, you know, like they just believe something but.
- 16:55I don't know if that made any sense.
- 16:57No, 100%. And and if you're not familiar
- 17:00with the word quickened, that's an old word that we don't use
- 17:03nowadays, but it simply means to be made alive.
- 17:05So you can read that the uncircumcised of your flesh, and
- 17:09he hath made alive together with him.
- 17:11You know that that's basically So what was dead is now alive,
- 17:16right? Yeah.
- 17:18No. Yeah, I think in verse 12 he
- 17:21kind of lays it out what that looks like.
- 17:25It doesn't say that you have to understand the Bible to be
- 17:31quickened together with him. It says in verse 12 it says
- 17:36through I'll just read the whole thing buried with him in baptism
- 17:40buried with Christ in baptism. Where so are you also arisen
- 17:43with him through the faith of the operation of God who has
- 17:48raised him from the dead. So it's it's faith.
- 17:52It's simply faith believing right.
- 17:54It's not having to fully understand everything, because
- 17:58if I would have had to understand everything about the
- 18:01Bible in order to get saved or be baptized into Christ, and it
- 18:06would have took five more years until I would have got saved,
- 18:11you know? And that's just not how God
- 18:12operates. And you just Simply put your
- 18:16faith in Christ and the finished work of the cross, and then you
- 18:21are no more dead in your sins, right?
- 18:24That's what he's saying. And you being dead in your sins
- 18:27and the uncircumcision of your flesh hath He quickened, made
- 18:30alive. And then Ephesians 2, like you
- 18:33were saying that I'm going to read that because that really
- 18:35kind of lays this out pretty simply.
- 18:39In 2 verses in Ephesians 2, five and six, he says even when we
- 18:43were dead in sins hath quick. And there's the same word, quick
- 18:47and made alive us together with Christ by grace.
- 18:52Are you saved not by of understanding the scriptures.
- 18:56It says by grace are you saved and hath raised us up together
- 19:00and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
- 19:05So there is a actual how would you say it?
- 19:10What would be the right word? Transformation is what comes to
- 19:12my mind, but I think it it is that but there is a actual
- 19:17physical status. You would say that changes right
- 19:22here and now. Like right now we are seated
- 19:26together with Christ in heavenly places.
- 19:29That's not in the new heaven and new earth that is now.
- 19:34And so I that is just like encouraging and a blessing to me
- 19:40to understand. And I didn't understand that for
- 19:43many years. And I don't know if I still
- 19:45fully understand the whole dynamics of that right, or what
- 19:49that actually looks like. But the Bible says that we are
- 19:54seated with Him in heavenly places right now.
- 19:58Yeah, Yeah, that's right. And Cameron posted there and I
- 20:02want to touch on that real quick because I think that's a really
- 20:05relevant kind of question and you might have answered it
- 20:07yourself, Cameron and the rest of the.
- 20:10Message there. But he said good evening
- 20:11brothers. It is it right to refer to this
- 20:14stuff as a peek into the spiritual metamorphosis of the
- 20:19believer? So to speak.
- 20:20And I think that's right. You know, you, you mentioned
- 20:24Mel, when you know, the transformation that we're
- 20:26talking about being dead and then made alive, you know, a
- 20:29metamorphosis, you know, isn't maybe quite the right word
- 20:32because now it mean that means a process of this is also maybe a
- 20:38process. But this is a really short 1,
- 20:40you were dead or you're alive that that's how that that
- 20:43metamorphosis is. So maybe that's a little bit
- 20:46different. And also it needs to be changed
- 20:49literally from, you know, a young, you know, juvenile to a
- 20:54fully adult, fully, fully, you know, developed, I guess,
- 20:59whereas this he calls it a new creation.
- 21:02So maybe that's maybe that's even a better word.
- 21:04I mean, I, I think the metamorphosis, I've, I've heard
- 21:06that word used a lot. But yeah, I, I think that's,
- 21:09that's pretty good. Any thoughts on on that, that
- 21:12comment there? Any of you guys?
- 21:17I don't think there's a only thing I would say as far as the
- 21:19metamorphosis word is that's more of, I hate to say it like
- 21:25this, but it's almost like that's a polishing up.
- 21:27But in in reference to these verses, it's a total death of
- 21:31the old creature and a new creature coming out of it.
- 21:34You know what I mean? So that that would be my only
- 21:36fault to using that word. Is it?
- 21:38It's kind of like maybe our old way of thinking of God just
- 21:42needs to get in US and Polish us up where he said no, no, I
- 21:45actually needed to put you to death and have a new creature
- 21:49come forth. That'd be my only thought on it.
- 21:52I was I was putting off reading this earlier because I felt like
- 21:54I was going too long, but Romans chapter 8 verse 7 says for the
- 21:59because the carnal mind is enmity against God.
- 22:03No, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can
- 22:06be. So then they that are in the
- 22:09flesh, those that are still uncircumcised, those that are
- 22:12still in their body cannot please God.
- 22:16But he says to us Christians, but ye are not in the flesh, but
- 22:19in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
- 22:22Now if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he's none of
- 22:24his but and if Christ is in you, the body flesh is dead because
- 22:30of sin, but the spirit is life because of righteousness.
- 22:33So yeah, you could, you could think of it as a metamorphosis.
- 22:36I I just recently taught through 1st Corinthians 15 and he talks
- 22:40about this corruptible putting on incorruption, this mortal
- 22:42putting on immortality. So it's like those that are
- 22:45alive and remain at the coming of Christ, they will be changed
- 22:48in the moment and twinkling of an eye.
- 22:49They'll will be transformed from natural to supernatural, from
- 22:53mortal to immortal. And so it will be like a
- 22:55metamorphosis for sure. But here he's saying currently
- 22:58now as believers who still look and feel like we're in the
- 23:02flesh, he says you are not in the flesh.
- 23:05You are free from this body. You are seated with Christ
- 23:08currently. And by believing that, by
- 23:11reckoning that to be true, we experience the reality.
- 23:14Of it that is good. And because I always thought
- 23:18that the best verse for kind of connecting those things together
- 23:23is there Romans 4, Romans 417, the last half verse when he says
- 23:30who quickeneth the dead and calleth those things which be
- 23:35not as though they were right. I mean, like that is what that
- 23:38verse is saying he's called he's we didn't turn, we didn't see
- 23:46the change physically of of changing, but God calls those
- 23:51things which be not as though they were like in his reckoning.
- 23:54That is true whether you feel it or not.
- 23:57It is true and. I mean, I, I know that the once
- 24:03you know, there's a difference between a young believer and A
- 24:06and A and an old believer, one that's experienced.
- 24:08I mean, you do grow in Christ. There's that's not what we're
- 24:11saying, but the, the transforming part part is
- 24:15instant and sudden. When I came, when I got saved,
- 24:17part of my testimony actually is that without even my knowledge
- 24:22necessarily without any effort on my part, I would say I went
- 24:26from loving sin and, and these things to hating it.
- 24:32There was there was there was no period of time when I slowly
- 24:36kind of got to hate or whatever it just God gave me a a new
- 24:41heart. You know, it was one of flesh
- 24:43and not one of stone like I had. And so I mean, yeah, that that
- 24:46that's a good discussion. I, I thank you Cameron for that
- 24:48question. I I think that that's that's
- 24:52something that the modern church really wants to kind of fudge
- 24:56this and, you know, get you under the impression, you know,
- 24:59progressive sanctification where you continue, you know,
- 25:02eventually, eventually, if you do these, you eventually, you
- 25:05know, got us find you acceptable.
- 25:07That's not the way it is. You're.
- 25:10Sanctified or you're not? But it, it, it looks to me like,
- 25:13like what I read there in Ephesians 26 where he says, and
- 25:17he has raised us up together, meaning us and Christ and God.
- 25:23And then he says made us sit together.
- 25:25He uses the same word again in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
- 25:30To me, that's like a relational term.
- 25:33Like it's like, like we're there together with Jesus and with
- 25:38God. We might not be there like
- 25:40physically sitting there, but we are actually because we are in
- 25:45Christ and Christ is in US and the Spirit is in US.
- 25:48So it's, I don't know it, yeah, we could go a long time on this,
- 25:53but it it, it's just so beautiful when you understand
- 25:56that it. So then out of that you operate,
- 26:00you know, like you're the transformation in your physical
- 26:04life here right now. Kind of comes from that
- 26:07relationship with God and with Jesus.
- 26:11Yes, Sir. Well, and God, it's not like,
- 26:15like we, we've talked about this before, but it's not, we
- 26:21understand that there are things that that we realize as we go
- 26:27along, we grow in our understanding, we are renewed by
- 26:31knowledge and all those things. But that's not what he's talking
- 26:34about here. When he's talking about God's
- 26:36reckoning, it's not like God takes time to reckon it as the
- 26:42believer believes it. God is not in a process of
- 26:45reckoning. He just reckons it to be true,
- 26:47right? There's no delay in that.
- 26:50He just sees the person believes him and it's and it's just
- 26:52instantaneous. So we we often pull, we often
- 26:59pull something else into these verses when that's not always
- 27:03talking about that's. Right.
- 27:05That's good. Yeah.
- 27:07That's that's exciting stuff, actually.
- 27:09That. Yeah.
- 27:11And he made something alive that was dead.
- 27:14I don't know of any other being that was ever able to do that.
- 27:20We can make something dead that was alive, but not the other way
- 27:22around, 14 says. Blotting out the handwriting of
- 27:27ordinances, which was against us, which was contrary to us,
- 27:31and took it out of the way, mailing it to the cross.
- 27:34Just makes me think of that verse where he said that if
- 27:37there is a law that could have been given that would have
- 27:39brought life, he'd have done it. It wasn't.
- 27:43And so he just took that out of the way and said this is the new
- 27:46way and the two don't mix. It's like oil and water.
- 27:49This is the new way that it is totally separate from that old
- 27:54way. He took that of completely away
- 27:56nailed it to his cross. He says look it out of the way.
- 28:00So when it it titled the cross with him.
- 28:04Yeah, I think a lot of people don't make this connection in
- 28:07the average Christian Church that it was the law of
- 28:10commandments and ordinances that was keeping us from coming to
- 28:15God. God wanted, God wanted a
- 28:18relationship with humanity, but he also wanted his righteous
- 28:22standards upheld. So he instituted this law, but
- 28:25the law is now what was keeping him from being able to connect
- 28:28to his people because the people were not living up to his
- 28:31standard. And so in Ephesians chapter 2,
- 28:35verse 15, he says having abolished in his flesh again
- 28:39Christ's body in his flesh, having abolished in his flesh
- 28:42the enmity. What is the enmity?
- 28:45What is the problem? What is keeping us out of God's
- 28:48Kingdom? The even the law of commandments
- 28:53contained in ordinances for to making himself of twain one new
- 28:58man, so making peace, and that he might reconcile both unto God
- 29:03in one body, by the cross having slain the enmity thereby.
- 29:08So the body is under the law of God.
- 29:11It is subject to the law of God, but the mind couldn't keep the
- 29:16law of God. And so then the body is now
- 29:18condemned under that law and the person cannot get to God.
- 29:22So Christ took the body that was being controlled and being
- 29:27condemned by the law, and he put the body to death so that we are
- 29:31now free from our body, free the member, the male member is
- 29:35exposed in a circumcision. And so the male part of us or
- 29:39the external part of us, the fleshly part of us, was keeping
- 29:42us from the from God because the commandments were condemning us.
- 29:47So anybody who tries to get to God by keeping commandments,
- 29:51it's like they're trying to wrap the foreskin back on, like
- 29:54they're trying to become fleshly again so as to attain status
- 29:58before God. But what is needed, what is
- 30:01required, and the only way for us to get to God is for that
- 30:05circumcision to take place, for the old man to be put off.
- 30:08And so he said he's blot out the handwriting of ordinances
- 30:11against us. How?
- 30:12Because he nailed our bodies to the cross, the thing that was
- 30:16bound under the law of God. And Romans Chapter 7 talks about
- 30:20this, how the woman is bound to the law as long as her husband
- 30:24lives, but if the husband be dead, he is free.
- 30:26She is free from the law of her husband.
- 30:28And so our body was keeping us subject to the law of God.
- 30:33But now the body has been destroyed, The body has been put
- 30:36away so that the commandments no longer condemn and control the
- 30:42man, right? The man is now out from
- 30:44underneath that condemnation. The commandments of ordinances,
- 30:47the handwriting against us, all the things that God could have
- 30:50said based on the law. Thou shalt not, thou shalt not.
- 30:53Thou shalt. You failed in all these ways.
- 30:56Now the man needs to die. The Bible says that in Christ,
- 30:59our old man, the body of flesh was nailed to the cross along
- 31:03with Christ, and his work on our behalf made us free from the
- 31:07commandments and the ordinances and the law that was against us.
- 31:10He nailed it to the cross, and he freed us from the
- 31:13consequences and the constant reminder of our failure, Right?
- 31:17We're we are now free from all of that.
- 31:22Man, that's good stuff. Error.
- 31:26Yeah, I was just kind of thinking as Dan was talking
- 31:30there, it's like, would you would you say, is it fair to say
- 31:38that he also, well, I'm kind of wanting to tie the next verse in
- 31:45with it. But the the things in First
- 31:49Corinthians 15 and verse 56, it says the sting of death is sin
- 31:54and the strength of sin is the law.
- 31:58So the the thing that the thing that the devil, and this is kind
- 32:03of what I was going to make the point in the next verse about,
- 32:05but I'll try to tie these two things together.
- 32:08The devil is said to be in Revelations, the accuser of the
- 32:11brethren. So the devil is saying, look
- 32:16what they did, look what they did, look what they did.
- 32:19And he says the handwriting is blotted out.
- 32:21So what I was going to say is, is it fair to say that the you
- 32:27know how we would say that Christ we are hid with Christ in
- 32:30God, the law is not disappeared in a sense, it's just been
- 32:37covered over by his keeping. Yep.
- 32:43Nope. Nope.
- 32:45You connected, are you? He can't hear me.
- 32:48He connected for his Bluetooth. About now.
- 32:54That's the. Yep.
- 32:56Did you hear any of it? Yes, we did.
- 32:58Yep. Yep.
- 32:59You were just. Yeah, go ahead.
- 33:02Well, I was just going to say the the the thing that the thing
- 33:09that condemned humanity would have been the law like the
- 33:12strength of the law is or strength of sin is the law.
- 33:15So the thing that is condemning humanity is the rules like the
- 33:20God says this is what I require. So Christ, you might say he
- 33:25covered that, he blotted that out when he accomplished all
- 33:29those things. Would you agree with that?
- 33:31In other words, he actually full, that's what he said, He
- 33:33fulfilled all the law. So some of those things
- 33:36represented what he was going to do.
- 33:38But in that true sense, he actually did fulfill all the
- 33:42requirements of the law and, and it is covered and blotted over.
- 33:48It is covered over by him. So God, it's like this is the
- 33:53point that I was going to make kind of the next verse is the
- 33:56devil is accusing and God's saying, I hear you, but I don't
- 34:01see any of that. It's covered over like Christ
- 34:04has covered that over. So I don't know, maybe I'm maybe
- 34:08I'm grasping at straws here, but but I just kind of based on the
- 34:12next verse and I don't want to jump ahead, but based on the
- 34:15next verse, he's, he spoiled these principalities and powers.
- 34:20Like again, I don't know that's what it's saying.
- 34:23But I thought about it today when I was looking at it is the
- 34:27devil is called the accuser of the brethren.
- 34:29The strength of the law of strength of sin is the law.
- 34:33So the devil is trying to take those things and accuse.
- 34:37Look what they did. Look what they did, but it's
- 34:39actually covered over. It's it's covered over by
- 34:43Christ. I mean, that's what imputed
- 34:44righteousness is He is counting us, calling us something that
- 34:48we're not. In other words, the reality is I
- 34:51still say and think and do some things that are not right, but
- 34:54God does not see that for what Christ did.
- 34:57The devil's trying to accuse me, but it is God saying, sorry,
- 35:03it's covered. It's blotted out by my Son and
- 35:06his perfect life. I don't know.
- 35:08I just, I guess I'm more seeing what you think about that than
- 35:12anything, but. Yeah, absolutely.
- 35:14Well, you know, and, and he, Jesus said that he fulfilled the
- 35:19demands of the law, you know. So is it covered or is that the
- 35:23right word? Yeah.
- 35:23Good question, Melvin. Well, I think, I think
- 35:27Revelations as you were talking, I thought of Revelations 20.
- 35:31It kind of gives us that picture on the Day of Judgment.
- 35:36It says in verse 20, verse 1011 and 12 it says, and it starts
- 35:41out with this in verse 10, it says, and the devil that
- 35:44deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where
- 35:49the beast and the false prophet are, and she'll be tormented day
- 35:52and night forever and ever. So all these that are just
- 35:55getting ready to be judged by God is what it says was deceived
- 36:01by the devil and the and the devil was cast into the lake of
- 36:04fire. And then it says in verse 11, I
- 36:06saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose
- 36:10face the earth and heaven fled away, and there was found no
- 36:13place for them. And I saw the dead, small and
- 36:17great, stand before God. And the books were opened, and
- 36:21another book was opened, which is the book of life.
- 36:24And the dead were judged out of those things which were written
- 36:27in the books according to their works.
- 36:31And so we have that picture where there on the day of
- 36:35Judgment there is these books are open where if your name is
- 36:39not written in the book of life, it says the book of life is open
- 36:43as well. But if your name is not written
- 36:45in the book of life, because it says in the last verse there
- 36:48verse 15. And whosoever was not found
- 36:51written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
- 36:53So if your if your name was not written in the book of life,
- 36:57then the other books were opened and you were judged out of those
- 37:02books by your works. And that's what I think of when
- 37:06it says here that Jesus is blotted out the handwriting of
- 37:11the ordinances that was against us.
- 37:13So in those books is what the ordinance was I fantasy that
- 37:18were written against us, right, and Jesus allotted them out.
- 37:22He covered them with his blood, right, and and that's just so
- 37:28beautiful. And then I would one of another
- 37:31thing I wanted to point out is that he's kind of explaining
- 37:34here also. I see what it looks like to be
- 37:38quickened together with Christ. He says that you're forgiven
- 37:43from all your trespasses when you're quick it together with
- 37:46with him with Christ. And then your your ordinances
- 37:50that were written against you are blotted out and and it and
- 37:54those are were contrary to us and and he took it out of the
- 37:59way. He actually didn't just cover it
- 38:01there. I mean, yes, I do believe what
- 38:03you were saying, Aaron, he did covered, but it says he actually
- 38:06took it out of the way like it's not there anymore and he nailed
- 38:10it to his cross that that's just and that's so final, so to
- 38:16speak. That's that gives me the picture
- 38:18of, you know, where is your name written in the book of life or
- 38:22does it move over to to the other book where you're going to
- 38:25be judged from your works? No, if you have put your trust
- 38:29in Christ, then your name is in the book of life and it is not
- 38:32going to be those ordinances and handwritten ordinances that were
- 38:36against you are not going to be there anymore.
- 38:40Yeah, that's right. In Romans 4 in regards to what
- 38:44you're saying there, Melvin, he has he says blessed is the man
- 38:49to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
- 38:53That is a blessed man. There's you can't get any more
- 38:58blessed than not to have your sins imputed against you.
- 39:02I'm telling you what that is good news.
- 39:04So 100% that's that's right. Oh yeah, good stuff.
- 39:11And verse 15 and having spoiled principalities and powers, he
- 39:17made a show of them openly triumphing over them in it.
- 39:21And I know I think was the last week or the week before I talked
- 39:26about that word spoiled a little bit.
- 39:30So when you spoil says not like bad fruit that that got rotten.
- 39:33That's not what this is meaning this when something is spoiled,
- 39:38it means like a city that's been been, you know, there's an army
- 39:43came through it and they took all the valuables out of it.
- 39:45They they took all the good stuff, the gold, the money, the
- 39:48women, the beast, the animals. They took all the goods out of
- 39:51that. That city's been spoiled.
- 39:53It has been stripped of any valuables.
- 39:55It's been stripped of any good. And if you think of that in this
- 40:00so he may and having spoiled the principalities and powers, in
- 40:04other words, he rendered them powerless.
- 40:09I love it, Dan. Any, anything.
- 40:12Yeah, that word spoiled. I, I heard that word most
- 40:15frequently when we saw a child get everything that he wanted.
- 40:20And, and most kids when they hear of another boy or a girl
- 40:24that's spoiled, the kids think, man, I wish I was spoiled.
- 40:28Because the kid, the kid that's spoiled is the one getting the
- 40:31latest video game, the one that has the four Wheeler, the one
- 40:34that has all the stuff, the one that gets to go to Disneyland.
- 40:36It's like man, that kid is so spoiled.
- 40:38But the problem is, is that people from the outside can see
- 40:42the dad is just buying the kids stuff and he's spoiling his
- 40:46character. He's ruining the the boy with.
- 40:49The boy never has to work for anything.
- 40:50The boy never has to save up for anything.
- 40:52The boy never has to obey. He never like, he just gets
- 40:55whatever he wants and it looks like fun, but he's actually
- 40:59being spoiled. And so the word is correct, but
- 41:02it's not a positive word. It's a very, it's a very
- 41:04negative word. And like you said, you you
- 41:06defeat the enemy and you take all their goods.
- 41:08That's what spoiling is. And so when it says here that he
- 41:11triumphed over them in it, you almost can't help but get this,
- 41:15this celebration, victory dance kind of image in your mind.
- 41:19Like some of these football players that hit the touchdown,
- 41:21they slam that ball on the ground.
- 41:23They do a little dance like they they defeated their enemies,
- 41:26like they, they conquered them. The word triumphing in the old
- 41:31Webster's Dictionary says celebrating victory with pomp,
- 41:36vanquishing, rejoicing for victory, insulting on an
- 41:41advantage. Imagine that like I got the
- 41:44advantage of you. Take that like you didn't have
- 41:48anything on me you thought you had.
- 41:49The victory is like a master chess player allowing his
- 41:53opponent to feel like I think I might have this guy.
- 41:56It's like check, I've I've almost got you cornered.
- 42:00And then the master turns around and says, I did that just to
- 42:03make a show of it. I did it just to ashame you.
- 42:07I I only wanted to do it this way so that when I burst forth
- 42:10from the grave, you would all shake your heads and
- 42:13bewilderment and wonder how did this happen?
- 42:16Had the Princess of this world known they would not have
- 42:18crucified the Lord of glory, but God had one up his sleeve, so to
- 42:22speak. He, he was waiting for this
- 42:24opportunity. And it says that Christ was, was
- 42:28predestined to be crucified. And they did all the things that
- 42:32God predestined for them to do. Now, I don't think God was
- 42:35turning screws and forcing them to do anything but he, they
- 42:38played right into his trap. And then he burst forth from the
- 42:42grave and made a show of them, openly triumphing over them in
- 42:46his great victory. And we're still celebrating that
- 42:49great victory today. Yeah.
- 42:50That's right. And very literally.
- 42:52And and, you know, he he literally made a show of it too,
- 42:57walking in the streets after he was, you know, rose from the
- 43:01dead. Yeah.
- 43:02I mean very literally so, Aaron. Yeah.
- 43:05And and I guess like I said, I don't know if I was making that
- 43:08point or not, but that that was what I was kind of getting at is
- 43:12all I do. I kind of saw that.
- 43:14I never saw it before till I kind of looked at before like we
- 43:17got on here was that's what I was saying like the strength of
- 43:22sin is the law like the people that were fighting against you
- 43:26know, Ephesians 612 says we wrestle not against flesh and
- 43:29blood against principalities and powers rules darkness, this
- 43:32world. So the thing the the accusers of
- 43:39us, the people that thought they had us or thought they had
- 43:42Christ would have thought they had us by the law.
- 43:46And then Christ fulfills that completely and all her strength
- 43:52is gone, right? Like there's nothing when he
- 43:54accomplishes it. And then, as you said, dies
- 43:57there and raises again and does that the, the power's gone,
- 44:02right? You're, you're, I mean, that's
- 44:03the Romans 6-7 and eight. I mean, you're dead to sin like
- 44:06it. It has no power over you
- 44:08anymore. He has, he has killed off, he's
- 44:12spoiled. He's as you all said, he's
- 44:14robbed the strength, the goods that they had, which was the
- 44:18law. That's what they would have used
- 44:20against us. You know, that's what they would
- 44:21accused us with. So I don't know, maybe not the
- 44:24best point, but I just thought it was interesting.
- 44:27No, that's that's 100%. I think we got a burlap sack
- 44:31full of mushers by now. This.
- 44:38But I think, I think that I was just thinking as you were
- 44:42talking that, you know, even the disciples that were close to
- 44:47Jesus before he died on the cross had a hard time believing
- 44:52that he arose again, that he was actually not dead anymore
- 44:58because obviously that never happened before, right?
- 45:00So, but that being said is that he made a show of them openly.
- 45:07Like in other words, I had to also think of when he was in the
- 45:11when they put his dead body in the tomb, they put, you know,
- 45:14the the Roman soldiers, they put the seal on the tomb, which was
- 45:19like 14. I don't remember the number.
- 45:21It's a lot of soldiers that they put guard over to make sure that
- 45:26nobody steals his body, you know, and, and when Jesus did
- 45:30raise the dead, those soldiers just fell over like they were
- 45:33nothing like. So in other words, what he's
- 45:35just making a point here that I see is that God's the, the God's
- 45:41power that raised Jesus from the dead.
- 45:45There's no principality or power.
- 45:47There's no earthly or man made power that can be able to stand
- 45:54against that. And that's what makes this in
- 45:59Christ rising from the dead so powerful.
- 46:04And it's so how would you say it?
- 46:07It's so much more relevant to than any other religion or
- 46:12trying to put your faith in anything else, right?
- 46:15Because it's it happened. It actually happened, right?
- 46:19And and he has power over any man and I don't know is he's
- 46:25just making that point pretty clear.
- 46:28Seems like what that looks like and it triumphing over them in
- 46:32it. So he it's just so good.
- 46:35It when we understand this, it makes us 3 to be able to know
- 46:41where we stand with God and in Christ.
- 46:47Yeah. And how much how much better is
- 46:48it, you know, when we when we talk about, you know, you know,
- 46:53Andrew talks a lot about, you know, delivers ministries and
- 46:55how they, you know, we dig around in the past to try to
- 46:58find our security or dig around in the past and try to eliminate
- 47:03all these things that are against us so we can live a free
- 47:05life or whatever. That's not what I see here.
- 47:08This is this is past tense. Having spoiled the
- 47:11principalities and powers, they are rendered powerless in the
- 47:15sight of God, you know, in the in the power of Jesus Christ and
- 47:18us being in him. So that that that is a really,
- 47:23really strong position that we have as a believer.
- 47:28We really do there. We don't we, we don't there's no
- 47:31need for us to be afraid. There's there's nothing that is
- 47:35greater than the God that has in his hands our soul.
- 47:42You know, that just isn't so all right.
- 47:46And so I'm going to read 16 and 17 together.
- 47:49This is kind of the conclusion maybe or the start of his
- 47:52conclusion of the matter, that in a sense here he says, so let
- 47:56no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink or in respect
- 48:01of an holy day or of the new moon or of the Sabbath days,
- 48:06which are a shadow of things to come.
- 48:09But the body is of Christ. So like, don't judge.
- 48:18Don't let any man therefore judge you in what you are eating
- 48:23or drinking. I don't know.
- 48:24Take it away. Dan, what are you?
- 48:26What are you? I like that this verse begins
- 48:29with the therefore, you know, you have to know what he's
- 48:32concluding, what he's talking about.
- 48:34These people were being encouraged and being spoiled and
- 48:38being defrauded. Let no man defraud you or spoil
- 48:42you or trick you or beguile you of your reward which you have in
- 48:45Christ. And then he gives us this big
- 48:47long explanation of how we have been made 100% free from sin and
- 48:52we are presented to God as holy and unblameable and unreprovable
- 48:56in his sight. We are complete.
- 48:58We are, we are sure we have absolute security in Christ and
- 49:03the whole Old Testament system has been done away with.
- 49:06The body has been destroyed. There's there's nothing that
- 49:08sticks to us any longer. Therefore don't let anybody
- 49:13judge you for what you might eat, or what you might wear, or
- 49:16what you might drink, or what day you might hold holy, or
- 49:19which day you don't take holy, whether you keep a Sabbath day
- 49:22or a moon day, or whatever it might be.
- 49:25Those all were just shadows of things that were to come.
- 49:30But the true identity, the real thing took place in Christ and
- 49:34we have been made complete in Christ.
- 49:36Therefore all of the Leviticus stuff that is explained in
- 49:39Leviticus was no longer is no longer applicable to us.
- 49:43We, there's no, we shouldn't let anybody look down on us for
- 49:47eating an unclean animal or for working on a certain day or not
- 49:51working on a certain day, for keeping certain Sabbath days or
- 49:54not keeping certain Sabbath days.
- 49:56But I think in particular, like Melvin or Aaron said earlier,
- 49:59these people were not Sabbath keepers to begin with.
- 50:02They were being encouraged by Sabbath keepers that you have to
- 50:05go back to the law. But now Paul is saying, hey,
- 50:08look, the law didn't make us holy.
- 50:10It actually kept us from God. Christ kept the law and he
- 50:13crucified him. He was crucified.
- 50:15You were crucified with him so that you could be free from any
- 50:18kind of restraint of externality, external laws.
- 50:22And so all of these things, the foods, the holy days, the new
- 50:25moons, the Sabbath days, they were all just a shadow of
- 50:27Christ, but the body was of Christ.
- 50:30They all hinted towards what Christ would do.
- 50:33And now we have the complete picture.
- 50:35We don't need to go back to the old shadows.
- 50:37There's nothing you can do or not or not do that will somehow
- 50:41change your status before God. There's nothing you can put in
- 50:44your mouth or put on your body. There's no day you can keep or
- 50:47not keep that is going to bring you somehow a step closer to
- 50:51God. Our standing before God is
- 50:53through the body of Christ and that is complete.
- 50:57It completely frees us up to enjoy all things we can now
- 51:01enjoy not sin we that's clear, but these ordinances, these
- 51:06laws, these commandments that bind a man to certain days,
- 51:10certain feasts, certain touch, not taste, not handle, not as
- 51:13he's going to say that all we've been freed from through the body
- 51:16of Christ. And so don't let anybody judge
- 51:19you. Don't let anybody look down upon
- 51:20you or think you're less spiritual because you're not
- 51:23keeping certain days. You Colossians, you don't need
- 51:25to start doing Jewish stuff. You can continue to live in your
- 51:29culture rejoicing in the truth that you kind of skipped that
- 51:32whole phase of the law. It brought those people to
- 51:35Christ and you didn't have to go under the law.
- 51:38You Christ was put under the law for you, and you're free from
- 51:40the restraints of the law. That's good preaching right
- 51:45there. You betcha, Aaron.
- 51:46Good news. Yeah, that's good stuff.
- 51:51I've always, so anytime I see verses like this, I always think
- 51:55about first Corinth or Acts 15 because that is the point of
- 52:00that little council They had Acts 15 verse one says and
- 52:04certain men which came down from Judea taught the brethren and
- 52:09said, except you be circumcised after the manner of Moses, you
- 52:13cannot be saved. And any they talk about it and
- 52:16they say this in verse 10, Acts 15, verse 10.
- 52:20He says now therefore, why tempt ye God to put a yoke like in
- 52:25other words, if you teach this, if you teach that you need to be
- 52:28circumcised and keep the law, why tempt ye God to put a yoke
- 52:32upon the neck of the disciples? And this is Gentile disciples,
- 52:36because, you know, that was the point of the, the little
- 52:39question, what are we going to tell the Gentiles they have to
- 52:41do? Why tempt you, God, to put a
- 52:44yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our
- 52:47fathers nor we were able to bear, you know, So I mean,
- 52:53that's exactly what he's saying here.
- 52:54Don't let somebody say you're not really a Christian because
- 52:59you're not keeping this day, as Dan said, or not eating this
- 53:02thing or are eating this thing. He says.
- 53:05Don't let me judge you on that. I just told you that you were
- 53:09dead in sins. You were walking along in the
- 53:11state you were in. You believe the Gospel and
- 53:14Christ made you alive. Don't let anybody change your
- 53:17mind about that. It's that simple.
- 53:22That's Rich Melvin. Yeah, I that's is so good.
- 53:27I I like basically what he, what I see here, how he's wrapping
- 53:33this up or the conclusion he put in verse 17 is, is kind of to me
- 53:39kind of gets the point of what he's saying here.
- 53:42He says in the very last part of verse 2, verse 17, he says, but
- 53:47the body is of Christ and that's the whole thing that he's been
- 53:51trying to point out all the way through Colossians here is is
- 53:56Christ and who we are in Christ and that that is that is where
- 54:01we need to be. And that is where they probably
- 54:04were, but they were being deceived or not deceived, but
- 54:07they were trying to be they were encouraging them the Jews or
- 54:10someone was encouraging the Colossians church there to start
- 54:14to keep the holy days or whatever.
- 54:16But he says, yeah, let no man therefore judge you like because
- 54:22the body is of Christ and whether you're Jew or Gentile or
- 54:26whatever you are in Christ, you are now one and and you don't
- 54:31need to be doing all these things right.
- 54:33And so that is freeing. That is where I can't think of
- 54:40the verse where he says about the the liberty that we have in
- 54:43Christ. Now he he does say there be
- 54:45careful that we don't use that liberty in the wrong way.
- 54:50But this is the liberty that he's talking about.
- 54:52We have liberty in Christ right. Then we shouldn't have to be
- 54:56looking at each other and being able to judge each other in
- 55:00saying, well, you're not doing this or I'm not doing that, or
- 55:03you need to be doing this or you need to be doing that.
- 55:06Then our focus gets off of Christ and then our and the
- 55:08devil loves that. The devil likes to do that all
- 55:11the time, it seems. You think it is, though, then
- 55:16that very serious Christians all through the ages and even still
- 55:19today, especially like the reformer type of Christians,
- 55:23they're super big on making Sunday the Sabbath day.
- 55:26And, and I'll even like we've heard it before during time of
- 55:29confession or something out at a church meeting where they're
- 55:32like, you know, we really ought to be keeping the Sabbath.
- 55:34Like how, how can you stand up and preach that?
- 55:38From where would you get something like that?
- 55:40Besides, maybe, you know, Jesus talked about the Sabbath in a
- 55:43positive way. He does say that Sabbath was for
- 55:46man, not man for the Sabbath. But other than that, you know,
- 55:48he doesn't say dismissed the the Sabbath.
- 55:52But you read this and it's like, don't let anybody judge.
- 55:55Why was it that Christians for so long we're so adamant still
- 55:58on somehow making the Sunday the Sabbath to begin with and then
- 56:02trying to keep it holy by going to church and not going out for
- 56:05food or something. But they're still doing
- 56:07everything like it. They're not keeping the Sabbath.
- 56:09What? Where did that come from?
- 56:11Yeah, yeah. And the scripture here actually,
- 56:15you know, it is, it's almost inviting us because it comes, he
- 56:18says. And he made a shoe of them
- 56:20openly triumphing over them in it.
- 56:22Therefore, like he's almost asking us to triumph openly,
- 56:27like he's encouraging us to stand in this same kind of like,
- 56:30no, this is the truth. This is where I stand, not in
- 56:35this other thing like like, let it be a show like you can, you
- 56:38can stand in the face of what you're talking about, Dan, like
- 56:42the the pressure to keep the Sabbath and things like that.
- 56:45No, you, you can make a show show of it.
- 56:48You can stand. With well, this is not an exact
- 56:52answer to Dan's question, but you know in Hebrews, when we
- 56:56went through Hebrews, he was talking about that all these
- 56:58things, the temple on earth was just a shadow of the real one in
- 57:02heaven. Think about verse 17, these
- 57:05things, the holy days, the meat, the drink, the not eating the
- 57:09meat, not eating the drink, the new moon, the Sabbath days,
- 57:12they're the shadow, but the real body is of Christ.
- 57:16It's like if I, you know, we've all been standing somewhere or,
- 57:24and you can see with the sun at your back, you can see your
- 57:27shadow cast out. If you're standing at the corner
- 57:29of a building, somebody may see your shadow.
- 57:32They not seeing the body, they see in your shadow laying on the
- 57:35ground. They're saying there's a guy
- 57:37standing around that corner. But to really see the real body,
- 57:41In other words, it's two different things.
- 57:44You're seeing the shadow there, but the real body, the
- 57:48fulfillment, the actuality, the thing that is real is the body,
- 57:53and that's all of Christ. In other words, he's saying
- 57:57don't let anybody try to get you to go back to the shadow.
- 57:59You're in the real thing, right? You know, I mean, that's what
- 58:03he's saying. The, the, these things are
- 58:05shadows of things to come. Like in the example, if
- 58:10somebody, if you see the shadow coming around the corner, you're
- 58:13seeing the shadow first. But when the body, the person
- 58:17comes around the corner, you can look in the shadow no more.
- 58:18You're looking at the real thing.
- 58:20And that's what he's saying. These all are just the shadow of
- 58:23what was coming, but the real body is of Christ.
- 58:27And the law was trying to constantly constrain or condemn
- 58:32the body of flesh. And so again, it's kind of akin
- 58:36to trying to become uncircumcised or, you know, to
- 58:39become circumcised uncircumcised after having been circumcised.
- 58:43It's like you're trying to put the flesh back on and you're
- 58:46going to touch, not taste, not handle a lot and try to impress
- 58:49God in some way by wrapping flesh in it again.
- 58:53When we are complete and the the new man has been has been
- 58:57delivered right, the the body is of Christ for sure.
- 59:00Well, I think I would like to encourage people to read your
- 59:03Bible and study your Bible, right?
- 59:05Because I think some of the things, the reasons that people
- 59:10misunderstand these kinds of things were, hey, we read in the
- 59:13Old Testament, right, the the Sabbath and keep the Sabbath
- 59:17holy. And they read that and they're
- 59:19like, oh man, we need to keep. I've done that myself, right?
- 59:23As a young believer, I have done that, but we need to understand
- 59:28the Scripture as a whole and understand our position in
- 59:31Christ, right? And the only way that you're
- 59:34going to fully understand that is to read the scriptures and
- 59:38study the scriptures and study the scriptures and study the
- 59:42scriptures and not anything else.
- 59:45Just learn how to study the Word and stick to the word of God and
- 59:50and ask God, ask the Spirit to reveal the truth to you and that
- 59:55I think that's where a lot of people go wrong and that's where
- 59:58I have straight off and in my life for sure.
- 1:00:01Read it and believe it. Believe what it says.
- 1:00:05Yeah, I had to think of this verse in Galatians 4 where it
- 1:00:08says, but now after that you have known God, or rather are
- 1:00:12known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly
- 1:00:15elements whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage.
- 1:00:19I mean that's kind of sums it up.
- 1:00:21Like why would you do that? Why would you go back after you
- 1:00:24have known your wife for 10 years to the shadow and be like
- 1:00:28in love with No, that's stupid. You didn't do that.
- 1:00:31Never ever. It's good.
- 1:00:34We had a preacher here on Sunday.
- 1:00:36I really it was, it was good. He was talking about the
- 1:00:39impossibilities, the thing Jesus turned in water to wine and all
- 1:00:42that good stuff. And he was saying that he often
- 1:00:46gets accused of, you know, easy believe is a preaching, a
- 1:00:49message that's just easy to believe.
- 1:00:51And he says, I turn around to those people now always say,
- 1:00:53well, what's your problem then? Why don't you believe that if
- 1:00:55it's so easy to believe? So that's kind of what this
- 1:01:01sounds like. You know, it's like, OK, yeah,
- 1:01:03this sounds like a really you can live however you want kind
- 1:01:06of a thing, but that is actually not how it works.
- 1:01:09I mean, how could you go against something that you love?
- 1:01:12But anyway, so I think we ran a couple minutes long here, but
- 1:01:17all good. Appreciate you guys being on
- 1:01:20here. Yeah, I did mention those
- 1:01:21mushrooms at the whole bag full of them.
- 1:01:25We weren't talking about shrooms.
- 1:01:26You don't need any of that. Don't need any of that.
- 1:01:29This message is good enough to get you fired up.
- 1:01:31You don't need any help. All right, so anyway, thanks for
- 1:01:34your time. Appreciate everything,
- 1:01:36listeners. If you want to go back and hear
- 1:01:38the earlier stuff, if you haven't, check it out my
- 1:01:41website, Simply Christ Ministries.
- 1:01:44All right, have a good week. God bless you guys and we'll see
- 1:01:47you same place, same time next week.
- 1:01:49Thank you.
