- 3:27Speaker 3: for you? I mean, it is what it is, right.
- 3:29Speaker 5: It is what it is, and I'll tell you what
- 3:31Speaker 5: it is. Going to want warm up a little bit
- 3:33Speaker 5: this weekend and the show is coming to the Civic
- 3:36Speaker 5: Center and we're ready for it.
- 3:37Speaker 3: All right, now, how many years has this been this?
- 3:39Speaker 5: Thirty seventh year.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Thirty seventh year? Yes, all right, you've been there for
- 3:42Speaker 3: all of them, Yes, been there for all of them.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So it's Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Condo Seema
- 3:47Speaker 3: Convention Center. It's going to be a great time. It
- 3:49Speaker 3: always is. What are some of the maybe new things
- 3:52Speaker 3: we have this year and some returning favorites.
- 3:55Speaker 5: We have several new things, several new outfitters that are coming.

- 4:19Speaker 5: I'm still cold from outside. There's a there's a lot
- 4:24Speaker 5: of excuse me, a lot of a lot of new
- 4:26Speaker 5: things coming. So it's there, it's ready, All the booths
- 4:31Speaker 5: are sold. Everyone's everyone's ready.
- 4:33Speaker 6: Come on down.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Well, and I was looking at your schedule of events
- 4:36Speaker 3: that you have here. I mean you go to start
- 4:38Speaker 3: things with the ribbon cutting in the noon. You've got
- 4:41Speaker 3: all of these different things going on throughout the weekend.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence, as he always does, Chris is going to
- 4:46Speaker 3: be a big part of it. He'll be doing his
- 4:49Speaker 3: a live three hour show from there on Saturday morning,
- 4:53Speaker 3: nine am.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Absolutely, Chris does a great job. He does We liked
- 4:57Speaker 5: having Chris.
- 4:58Speaker 3: There and a lot of good inform out there too.
- 5:01Speaker 3: And I know there's a lot of folks that say, well,
- 5:03Speaker 3: I'd like to come to the show, but I don't
- 5:05Speaker 3: necessarily have the money to spend. Look, you can come.
- 5:07Speaker 3: We want you to visit the outfitters. Obviously, we want
- 5:10Speaker 3: you to purchase stuff, But if you just want to
- 5:12Speaker 3: walk around, as we used to say growing up in
- 5:14Speaker 3: the church, fellowship one with the other and just talk
- 5:17Speaker 3: to other outdoors people, whether they're professionals, whether they're amateurs,
- 5:21Speaker 3: people just like you, they're all going to be there.
- 5:23Speaker 5: Absolutely, they're there, and like I say, there's something for everyone.
- 5:26Speaker 5: If you want to come down just look at the
- 5:28Speaker 5: latest equipment and so forth, it will be there. If
- 5:30Speaker 5: you want to look at a fishing equipment, we have
- 5:31Speaker 5: a great display of boats out in our lobby. If
- 5:35Speaker 5: you want to talk to someone, like I say, about
- 5:37Speaker 5: the hunting or fishing, the trout unlimited guys will be
- 5:40Speaker 5: there to talk to you about what's going on with
- 5:42Speaker 5: the troiut here in the state. The Department of Natural
- 5:45Speaker 5: Resources will be there if you want to discuss anything
- 5:48Speaker 5: with the law enforcement guys or the wildlife guys will
- 5:52Speaker 5: be there if you want to talk about any surveys
- 5:54Speaker 5: they have going on, or any projects they have going on.
- 5:57Speaker 5: And they'll also be there to score the whitetail mounts
- 6:01Speaker 5: that you have. If you've scored a or if you've
- 6:03Speaker 5: harvested a great white tail here in the state, bring
- 6:05Speaker 5: it down. They'll score it for you and benefit qualifies
- 6:08Speaker 5: will hanging up in the white Tail Hall of Fame,
- 6:10Speaker 5: which is a beautiful display.
- 6:12Speaker 3: It's one of the great things I like about the
- 6:13Speaker 3: sevent Glenn And again when we're talking about this weekends
- 6:15Speaker 3: West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show at the Kytle Seema
- 6:18Speaker 3: Convention Center Friday through Sunday, one of the things I
- 6:20Speaker 3: like about this is the amount of education that's available
- 6:23Speaker 3: and for the for outdoors people and and and guys
- 6:26Speaker 3: and gals come in, they take it in many times
- 6:28Speaker 3: with notebooks in hand. They set there and it's just
- 6:31Speaker 3: like they're going to class man.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Absolutely, it's a world of information there. Anything you want
- 6:35Speaker 5: to know about conservation that's going on in the state
- 6:38Speaker 5: that the West end of Trophy Hunter is a big
- 6:40Speaker 5: support of conservation programs that's going on. So if you
- 6:44Speaker 5: want to talk about those see what's going on to
- 6:46Speaker 5: come on down. There'll be someone there to help help
- 6:49Speaker 5: you with anything you want to talk about.
- 6:51Speaker 3: The day Islands showing five aby Line Bright to you

- 7:13Speaker 3: And I'm looking ahead glen at the weather, and of
- 7:16Speaker 3: course light can change between now and then, but Friday
- 7:18Speaker 3: looks like partly cloudy twenty eight, Saturday, Sunday thirty seven,
- 7:22Speaker 3: Sunday thirty nine, So it doesn't look like there's going
- 7:24Speaker 3: to be any weather issues to keep people away. Because
- 7:27Speaker 3: when you have this in January, it happens. And I
- 7:31Speaker 3: would think, and I'm not the biggest outdoor person in
- 7:33Speaker 3: the world, but I will say this that with the
- 7:35Speaker 3: January that we've had with these cold temperatures and the
- 7:38Speaker 3: snow and the ice, it's enough to make me want
- 7:41Speaker 3: to go head out to the lake. I mean it
- 7:43Speaker 3: really is.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Yes, And if you just want to get out, if
- 7:46Speaker 5: you've got Cavin favorite, come on down for the show.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, let's talk about admission prices and things of
- 7:52Speaker 3: that now.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Oh, it's a great deal. Adults is twelve dollars. Anyone
- 7:56Speaker 5: under twelve is in free. So it's it's prety simple. Okay,
- 8:01Speaker 5: twelve for adults and under twelves in free.
- 8:04Speaker 3: And I know people that go all three days. I
- 8:08Speaker 3: mean I literally know people that will go Friday, Saturday
- 8:11Speaker 3: and Sunday and they'll because really, in my experience, and
- 8:14Speaker 3: I've been there the last couple of years, my experience
- 8:16Speaker 3: is is it's hard to take it in all all
- 8:19Speaker 3: at one time. And the more crowded it is, it
- 8:22Speaker 3: makes it even harder because you got to get through
- 8:23Speaker 3: the crowds and everything. And that's a good thing. We
- 8:25Speaker 3: want people to come out and talk and as I said,
- 8:27Speaker 3: fellowship and so on and so forth. But if you
- 8:31Speaker 3: really you might want to consider coming back a second day.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Absolutely, if you come down Friday afternoon, that's a great time.
- 8:36Speaker 5: But then if you want to come back Saturday, we'll
- 8:39Speaker 5: have an auction on Saturday afternoon, which is a big deal.
- 8:42Speaker 5: You can get some great deals there.
- 8:44Speaker 3: I want to talk about that auction. Give us all
- 8:46Speaker 3: of the details on that.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Okay, Really what happens there is our outfitters will present trips.
- 8:53Speaker 5: If it may be just a fishing trip on the
- 8:56Speaker 5: Great Lakes, or if you want to go hunting and
- 8:58Speaker 5: be a hunting trip, or there's some beautiful guns will
- 9:00Speaker 5: be auctioned off, and beautiful clothing, beautiful artwork, beautiful knives.
- 9:05Speaker 5: It's all there and there's some great deals. That's Saturday
- 9:08Speaker 5: afternoon at five o'clock in the main arena, And.
- 9:11Speaker 3: As I said earlier, we'll be there. Chris Lawrence is
- 9:14Speaker 3: going to be there. This is one of those events
- 9:15Speaker 3: that we do that pretty much all of us will
- 9:17Speaker 3: be there at one time or another. I haven't gotten
- 9:19Speaker 3: the schedule yet, it's what I'm going to be there,
- 9:20Speaker 3: but I'll be there this weekend. All of our station's
- 9:23Speaker 3: KWSKAZ We're all going to be hanging out there and
- 9:27Speaker 3: talking to the talking to the fine folks there at
- 9:29Speaker 3: the Colosseum of Convention Center this weekend, and a whole
- 9:32Speaker 3: lot of work, Glenn, a whole lot of work goes into.
- 9:35Speaker 5: This, Absolutely, the Trop one hundred work all year on it,
- 9:38Speaker 5: get getting it ready, and we really try to present
- 9:41Speaker 5: a great quality show. So come on down. There's something
- 9:48Speaker 5: for everyone there.
- 9:49Speaker 3: And Friday it's actually going to be a really big
- 9:51Speaker 3: day at the Colosseumic Convention Center because there's a concert
- 9:54Speaker 3: that night. Parker McCallum is in concert, and also the
- 9:57Speaker 3: Reds Caravan is going to be there Friday evening as well,
- 10:00Speaker 3: so there's more than one reason to go to the
- 10:02Speaker 3: Kyloseuma Convention Center. It's all going to be going on
- 10:05Speaker 3: on that Friday night.
- 10:07Speaker 5: Absolutely, come on down to the show.
- 10:09Speaker 3: All right, So again, give us the hours, give us
- 10:12Speaker 3: the rundown again.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:14Speaker 5: Yeah, if we're going to start at noon on Friday,
- 10:16Speaker 5: go to on nine at night on Saturday it's nine
- 10:19Speaker 5: to nine and Sunday ten to five. And again the
- 10:22Speaker 5: price is just twelve dollars for adults. Anyone under twelve
- 10:25Speaker 5: gets in free.
- 10:26Speaker 3: All right. It's going to be a great time. It
- 10:27Speaker 3: always is. Glenn. I appreciate you being here and we'll
- 10:31Speaker 3: see you there this Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the
- 10:34Speaker 3: Kyloseum Convention Center. Actually, you're doing the ribbon cutting at
- 10:37Speaker 3: noon on Friday. I'm going to have you back in

- 13:34Speaker 3: I do want to throw out a couple of texts
- 13:36Speaker 3: because with everything happening in the news yesterday. You know,
- 13:40Speaker 3: there was an inauguration yesterday. You may or may not
- 13:42Speaker 3: be familiar with that, but I just thought I would
- 13:44Speaker 3: give folks an opportunity. I'm going to weigh in on

- 13:54Speaker 3: with your thoughts of the inauguration and guess what, I've
- 13:57Speaker 3: got some, So here we go. Hey, Dave says, how
- 14:00Speaker 3: about Elon Musk throwing up the Nazi salute twice at
- 14:03Speaker 3: Trump's riley. You know how it will go if you
- 14:05Speaker 3: saw it, that's what wasn't what it was. If he
- 14:08Speaker 3: did it, it was an accident, but he didn't do
- 14:11Speaker 3: it because it was ai generated by the Libs. Then
- 14:13Speaker 3: Elon will use as wealth to bury the video of
- 14:16Speaker 3: him giving the Heil hitler twice on national television. I
- 14:19Speaker 3: saw that, I saw a lot being written about it.
- 14:22Speaker 3: But again, and I agree with the texture. It all
- 14:25Speaker 3: depends on your perspective of whether you thought that was
- 14:27Speaker 3: a Hitler thing or it wasn't, because if you're a supporter,
- 14:30Speaker 3: you're gonna say it wasn't. I actually heard the audio
- 14:33Speaker 3: and a lot he was actually talking about love and
- 14:35Speaker 3: things of that nature. I probably wouldn't have been a
- 14:37Speaker 3: little bit more careful with my arms if it were me,
- 14:40Speaker 3: just saying, Tex says today, thank god President Trump is
- 14:44Speaker 3: back in charge. Putting America first in common sense is
- 14:47Speaker 3: long overdue. Sit back and enjoy the ride, says a text.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Tex says, Dave, I loved that Trump chose Elvis's American
- 14:57Speaker 3: Trilogy as his The Millennia's first dance at the Commander
- 15:01Speaker 3: in Chief Inauguration Ball, the Aloha from Hawaii is so
- 15:03Speaker 3: passionately performed that still brings tears to my eye, it
- 15:08Speaker 3: says at Texter. Coming up with tomorrow's show, a new
- 15:10Speaker 3: circuit judge here in Kanawa County, a long time friend
- 15:12Speaker 3: of the show, Rich Lindsay, officially sworn in this past Friday.
- 15:15Speaker 3: He's going to join us on the show tomorrow. Plus
- 15:17Speaker 3: we're gearing up for the second annual WVRC Media Charleston

- 15:46Speaker 3: We're bringing Tom Susman to the show now. Tom, good morning,
- 15:49Speaker 3: Welcome to the show.
- 15:49Speaker 9: Good morning, Dave. I'm sitting here just like having studio
- 15:53Speaker 9: envy on your new studio. As a side note, I'm
- 15:56Speaker 9: kind of involved in radio in Ravenswood and our studios
- 16:00Speaker 9: up there are not anywhere as nice as this studio.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Well, this is our temporary holding place, you know, because
- 16:07Speaker 3: eventually we're remodeling all of the studios here. So this
- 16:10Speaker 3: is where like I you know, I'm in here. Hotline
- 16:13Speaker 3: is in here. TJ's portion of talk line is in here.
- 16:16Speaker 3: But eventually we're going to move back into the old studio.
- 16:19Speaker 3: And so the next time mister Susman, you appear on
- 16:21Speaker 3: the show, you may be on TV, there will be
- 16:24Speaker 3: a cameras well.
- 16:25Speaker 9: Nobody to want to watch.
- 16:26Speaker 3: No, well, I mean me too, me and that, but
- 16:30Speaker 3: I do appreciate the nice words before we get into
- 16:32Speaker 3: talking about the ambulance service rates here in Kadawa County,
- 16:36Speaker 3: and there's been a lot of talking. I know you,
- 16:38Speaker 3: as a spokesperson have fielded a lot of questions about it.
- 16:41Speaker 3: I didn't want to mention something about warming centers that
- 16:43Speaker 3: you wanted to bring up, so I'll give you an
- 16:44Speaker 3: opportunity to do that, because it's maybe it's cold outside.
- 16:47Speaker 9: It's cold today and it's going to even be colder
- 16:49Speaker 9: tomorrow or tomorrow evening, and I saw somewhere on weather
- 16:52Speaker 9: Channel it could be as low as four below, so
- 16:55Speaker 9: I kind of want to go through. We got these
- 16:56Speaker 9: from CW. Sigmund, who is the Kanawa County Emergency Emergency
- 17:00Speaker 9: Manager coordinator. So I'm gonna go through a couple of
- 17:03Speaker 9: warming centers that are open. Dunbar's operating a center twenty
- 17:08Speaker 9: four hours a day at the Senior Center at City Hall.
- 17:11Speaker 9: Saint Aubins is having an overnight shelter at the Hanford
- 17:14Speaker 9: Center from eight pm until eight am. Marmett is operating
- 17:18Speaker 9: an overnight center at the Recreation Building from six pm
- 17:22Speaker 9: until six am. And again, how long these will stay
- 17:27Speaker 9: open don't know, it will depend on the forecast. Really
- 17:30Speaker 9: appreciate these municipalities stepping up. Also, the Breams Center in
- 17:35Speaker 9: Charleston is operating one between seven pm and seven am.
- 17:39Speaker 9: There may be others, Dave, Maybe folks need to text
- 17:42Speaker 9: you and let you know, but you know, ask take
- 17:44Speaker 9: care of your loved ones. Don't need to be outside
- 17:47Speaker 9: very long today if you don't have to be, And
- 17:50Speaker 9: check on seniors to make sure they're being taken care of.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Absolutely absolutely, And actually I have a list of those
- 17:57Speaker 3: posted on my social media on Dave Alan Radio, so
- 17:59Speaker 3: if you want to go to Dave Allen Radio you
- 18:00Speaker 3: can see a list of those. And we appreciate the
- 18:03Speaker 3: folks in Knawa County for giving us that information. All right,
- 18:06Speaker 3: tom So, we reported on this last week. The Canawh
- 18:09Speaker 3: County Ambulance Authority has approved rate increases for its service.
- 18:13Speaker 3: The increases and the numbers always stick out when you
- 18:16Speaker 3: say that the increases on some things could be upwards
- 18:19Speaker 3: of two hundred percent. Now, Aaron Parker has a story
- 18:21Speaker 3: posted about it on the archives section from last week
- 18:24Speaker 3: wv metronews dot com. And all this is, as I understand,
- 18:29Speaker 3: to make up for a more a four million dollar
- 18:31Speaker 3: budget deficit. Tom, you are a spokesperson for the Ambulance
- 18:34Speaker 3: Service Authority. I guess the big question is how did
- 18:37Speaker 3: we get here?
- 18:38Speaker 9: Well, I think there are a couple of reasons. One
- 18:40Speaker 9: is that over the period of years, they have not
- 18:41Speaker 9: been keeping pace with what those rates should have been.
- 18:46Speaker 9: And the impact of the rates, there's two impacts. One
- 18:50Speaker 9: is that if we can get these rates adjusted up,
- 18:52Speaker 9: it'll help us fill the budget gap. And but for
- 18:56Speaker 9: the individual who's listening going, oh my gosh, my rates
- 18:58Speaker 9: are going to go up. So first off, if you're
- 19:00Speaker 9: on Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Peia, this really
- 19:06Speaker 9: won't have an impact on your rates. And any insurance
- 19:09Speaker 9: company that we have a contract with, what this will
- 19:13Speaker 9: do is it allows the ambulance company to then go
- 19:17Speaker 9: back and begin to negotiate with the insurance to get
- 19:20Speaker 9: increased rates. Now Medicare Medicaid PI, they have an established
- 19:24Speaker 9: rate schedule their governmental payers so that they'll only pay
- 19:29Speaker 9: what they will pay. And I think your story indicated
- 19:32Speaker 9: that about seventy seven percent of the insurance payments in
- 19:35Speaker 9: West Virginia are are that. So that's part of the
- 19:37Speaker 9: problem because they play they pay way below cost for
- 19:41Speaker 9: the insurance companies that have contracts with with with the
- 19:45Speaker 9: Ambulance Authority. This just gives us the ability to go
- 19:48Speaker 9: back and renegotiate those contracts for the individuals who are
- 19:54Speaker 9: having issues in terms they can't afford and probably we
- 19:57Speaker 9: can't afford the rates today, much less the increased rate.
- 20:00Speaker 9: There's a hard chet process that we work with so
- 20:04Speaker 9: that those rates will either be adjusted down or we
- 20:06Speaker 9: charge off those We charge off those rates. But really
- 20:09Speaker 9: this is a positioning to get us where we can
- 20:12Speaker 9: go to the insurance companies and begin to negotiate rates
- 20:15Speaker 9: where they really should have been, and we are significantly
- 20:18Speaker 9: below those rates. The squad brought in a consultant and
- 20:24Speaker 9: they looked at it from top to bottom. They've made
- 20:26Speaker 9: eighteen recommendations and this is one of the recommendations and
- 20:30Speaker 9: they looked at our cost structure and it's really not
- 20:33Speaker 9: an expense structure problem. It's a revenue problem and we're
- 20:36Speaker 9: having to work through that.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Again, we're talking with Tom Susman, who's a spokesperson for
- 20:40Speaker 3: the Ganawa County Emergency Ambulance Service Authority, and Tom, this
- 20:43Speaker 3: is a problem that's happening statewide and happening nationwide. You're
- 20:47Speaker 3: somebody that's pretty close to the healthcare field a lot
- 20:49Speaker 3: of different things that you do. This is a nationwide issue.
- 20:52Speaker 9: Well, and it's even more in particular problem for EMS
- 20:54Speaker 9: in West Virginia. We've had a number of squads I
- 20:57Speaker 9: think twenty some closed in the last couple of years.
- 21:00Speaker 9: The goal of the authority is to try and work
- 21:03Speaker 9: through this situation on the deficit and not reduce services
- 21:08Speaker 9: in the county because Kanawa County has got some of
- 21:12Speaker 9: the best ambulance services in the county and they're like
- 21:15Speaker 9: nine hundred and some square miles in this county and
- 21:18Speaker 9: there's a lot of territory that's very rural, and so
- 21:22Speaker 9: the goal is to maintain the service that we have.
- 21:24Speaker 9: And again, like I said, there are seventeen or so
- 21:26Speaker 9: other recommendations that the authority is looking at at this
- 21:29Speaker 9: time to see if this is things that they need
- 21:32Speaker 9: to do to bring to improve service, reduce costs, and
- 21:38Speaker 9: do what needs to be done for the citizens of
- 21:41Speaker 9: the county.
- 21:42Speaker 3: But Dave Island showing five any line brought to you
- 21:43Speaker 3: in part by Pinnacle Consultants. Pinnacle offers a four phase
- 21:46Speaker 3: assessment for your properties inspection, in sampling, that analysis, comprehensive
- 21:50Speaker 3: reporting and management planning. Visit Pinnacle cort dot net. Because
- 21:53Speaker 3: what you don't know can't hurt you, Tomy is you're
- 21:55Speaker 3: somebody who has spent a little time under the dome
- 21:58Speaker 3: as a as a legislator and also as a as
- 22:01Speaker 3: a lobbyist. At what point, if any does the legislature
- 22:06Speaker 3: get involved. Is there anything that they can do to
- 22:08Speaker 3: work with these counties like Kanawa and others work with
- 22:10Speaker 3: these ambulance service authorities? And you mentioned the closing of
- 22:13Speaker 3: several fire departments and things of that nature. Is this
- 22:16Speaker 3: something that the legislature needs to take a look at
- 22:18Speaker 3: in your opinion?
- 22:19Speaker 9: Well, the EMS coalition and Monica who's the executive director
- 22:22Speaker 9: of Kanaha County and Chris Hall, who's the executive director
- 22:26Speaker 9: of the Association and other squads have been working with
- 22:29Speaker 9: the legislature and they've done some funding on workforce, they've
- 22:34Speaker 9: done some funding on other things. But the market of
- 22:38Speaker 9: EMS has changed in West Virginia and a lot of
- 22:40Speaker 9: the squads, like Kanaala County, used to do a lot
- 22:42Speaker 9: more non emergency transports, but there are other entities doing
- 22:46Speaker 9: that today, so that the business model, if you will,
- 22:50Speaker 9: has changed. But the problem we find is that at
- 22:53Speaker 9: this juncture, the states that are four hundred million dollars shortfall.
- 22:56Speaker 9: According to the incoming governor folks, they're not looking to
- 23:00Speaker 9: increase revenue, but there is a problem, and I think
- 23:03Speaker 9: Kanawha County will be able to work its way through it.
- 23:05Speaker 9: I think in the rural counties it's even gonna be
- 23:07Speaker 9: a more acute problem.
- 23:08Speaker 3: It's very similar in some instances, although similar but different
- 23:13Speaker 3: with the jail bill. You hear people talking so much
- 23:15Speaker 3: about the jail bill, and again the larger counties seem
- 23:19Speaker 3: to do a little better than the other ones, but
- 23:21Speaker 3: you start getting into some of the more the smaller
- 23:23Speaker 3: the work counties Calhune, Clay County, whatever, it's it's a
- 23:26Speaker 3: real issue there. Not that it's not here, but it's
- 23:28Speaker 3: a real issue there.
- 23:29Speaker 9: And it's really expensive. I mean everybody looks at a
- 23:31Speaker 9: van and then go, well, that's an ambulance. That's just
- 23:33Speaker 9: a van. Well it's not. I mean there's a couple
- 23:35Speaker 9: hundred thousand dollars worth of equipment if you order an ambulance.
- 23:39Speaker 9: And one of the things the report says is we
- 23:41Speaker 9: need to we need to replace because we have a
- 23:43Speaker 9: number of ambulances that have several hundred thousand miles on them,
- 23:46Speaker 9: but there's a two year waiting period to get those
- 23:49Speaker 9: ambulances to equip them. And so for a small rural
- 23:53Speaker 9: county that doesn't have col severn sacks like they used to,
- 23:56Speaker 9: or they don't have the industry like they used to,
- 23:58Speaker 9: it's a problem, a problem here in Kanawha County, and
- 24:01Speaker 9: we're going to try and work through that. But again,
- 24:04Speaker 9: the goal is not to reduce the level of service.
- 24:06Speaker 9: We're going to try and soften the impact on individual
- 24:09Speaker 9: citizens of these increases and try and work within the
- 24:11Speaker 9: insurance market.
- 24:12Speaker 3: And I think people sometimes forget, uh, what a vast
- 24:16Speaker 3: area Kanawah County is. I mean, uh, I mean it
- 24:19Speaker 3: is a big old county and getting from point A
- 24:23Speaker 3: to point C and D. Tom not always easy, and
- 24:27Speaker 3: we've seen it especially now with the with the winter
- 24:30Speaker 3: we've had here.
- 24:30Speaker 9: I mean if you go from Tornado all the way
- 24:33Speaker 9: to Montgomery, which is pretty farce. The fur pieces they
- 24:37Speaker 9: used to say down to Logan in that day. Yeah,
- 24:40Speaker 9: it's it's a it's so trying to trying to maintain
- 24:43Speaker 9: uh appropriate response times, trying to make things work. And
- 24:46Speaker 9: that's the reason that the authority they they solve the
- 24:50Speaker 9: they saw where they were heading to deficit. They have
- 24:53Speaker 9: dollars on hand, but they don't want to go through
- 24:55Speaker 9: those dollars and then wake up one day and say
- 24:58Speaker 9: we can't afford to maintain the service level. So they're
- 25:01Speaker 9: working through those issues.
- 25:02Speaker 10: Now.
- 25:03Speaker 3: You mentioned earlier non emergency calls. Explain for the for
- 25:08Speaker 3: the the average list or what exactly is a non
- 25:10Speaker 3: emergency call.
- 25:11Speaker 9: So there are two kind of levels that there's the
- 25:15Speaker 9: so emergent we all know, you know Tom Rex's car
- 25:19Speaker 9: Amalys has got to come.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Take me to the heart attacks or part attacks.
- 25:21Speaker 9: Those kind of things. Non emergency sometimes would be from
- 25:25Speaker 9: nursing home to hospital. It may be hospital to hospital,
- 25:29Speaker 9: it might be from home to dialysis.
- 25:31Speaker 10: Center.
- 25:32Speaker 9: So that's one level of non emergency. And then there's
- 25:34Speaker 9: a thing called critical care transport. And critical care transport
- 25:38Speaker 9: is when you may be a hospital saying, Beckley, you
- 25:43Speaker 9: have a significant health need and they need to take
- 25:45Speaker 9: you to Ruby or to c AMC or to Cleveland
- 25:49Speaker 9: and you need a high level of service. So there's
- 25:51Speaker 9: a lot of different that would fall in the what
- 25:53Speaker 9: we call non emergent, but generally non emergency for the
- 25:57Speaker 9: most part, think of none one one calls and lights flashing.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's a definite. I mean, I think the
- 26:04Speaker 3: average person might, like myself, you probably knew and you
- 26:08Speaker 3: see headlines. You hear headlines from time to time you say, okay,
- 26:11Speaker 3: well this is an issue. Well, you know, Tom, when
- 26:14Speaker 3: you throw out a number and people say as much
- 26:16Speaker 3: as two hundred percent to some people for some services,
- 26:19Speaker 3: people are like, oh, pump the brakes here, hold on
- 26:21Speaker 3: a second.
- 26:22Speaker 9: And I understand that, but you know, you know, you
- 26:26Speaker 9: have this need. We've got to maintain this need. And
- 26:29Speaker 9: like I said, the big bulk of this is going
- 26:30Speaker 9: to allow us to negotiate with insurance companies to get
- 26:33Speaker 9: the rates up for the individuals who are who are
- 26:36Speaker 9: paying cash or don't have insurance, will work with them.
- 26:40Speaker 9: There's a hardship form that you can get hold of
- 26:42Speaker 9: the authority or any very soon will be on the
- 26:45Speaker 9: website that people can draw down and we work with
- 26:47Speaker 9: them on that.
- 26:48Speaker 3: So what kind of a where are we now as
- 26:50Speaker 3: we start the new year? Is a sort of a
- 26:52Speaker 3: timeframe that that these things are going to take place that.
- 26:54Speaker 9: You're to be The rate increase took effect January one.
- 26:58Speaker 9: There's an implementation committee that's it can get some of
- 27:00Speaker 9: the other aspects, like for example, we have a bifurcated
- 27:04Speaker 9: dispatch where some of the dispatches that the ambulance office
- 27:09Speaker 9: on Brook Street and some is up at nine one one.
- 27:11Speaker 9: It really should all be at nine to one to
- 27:12Speaker 9: one based on industry standards better patient care. So you know,
- 27:17Speaker 9: the authority is going to work through with the nine
- 27:19Speaker 9: one one folks Metro to see how you implement that.
- 27:23Speaker 9: One of the issues that they've got is the amount
- 27:25Speaker 9: of weight time at the emergency room that once you
- 27:28Speaker 9: show up at the emergency room, how long does the
- 27:31Speaker 9: hospital hold our crews because that then takes ambulances out
- 27:35Speaker 9: of circulation and it can be hours sometimes and that's
- 27:38Speaker 9: a big issue that it's driving costs. So there are
- 27:41Speaker 9: a number of issues that we're working through that that
- 27:47Speaker 9: I think will help at the end of the day.
- 27:48Speaker 9: And it's going to take a year to eighteen months
- 27:51Speaker 9: to get all these implemented.
- 27:53Speaker 3: All right, Tom, good information. As always. I appreciate you
- 27:56Speaker 3: being here. Next time i'll have you on the show.
- 27:57Speaker 3: We'll talk politics. Absolutely. I don't want to mix the two. Now,
- 28:00Speaker 3: we don't want to mix the two. Okay, well, hold on,
- 28:03Speaker 3: do you have a texture for you? It says, why
- 28:05Speaker 3: not provide a non emergency medical with a taxi type
- 28:08Speaker 3: vehicle for a fee. There are companies that do this.
- 28:10Speaker 9: Yeah, there are there are companies that do do that,
- 28:14Speaker 9: do do and you can get those to get from
- 28:17Speaker 9: point A to point B. Generally, when they call the
- 28:19Speaker 9: ambulance for non emergency, there's a health need that's a
- 28:22Speaker 9: higher level of acuity that you need for that transport.
- 28:25Speaker 9: But if you're just going to the doctor's office, there
- 28:28Speaker 9: are services that can can be like a cab that
- 28:31Speaker 9: can take folks.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Okay, all right, I was gonna say, I want to
- 28:33Speaker 3: get that tax in there. I'll have you on here
- 28:35Speaker 3: maybe before the legislature comes in because it's gonna be
- 28:37Speaker 3: interesting to see what happens here, So absolutely hang out

- 32:43Speaker 3: announced to Knawk County Republican Jbacres, representing the fifty fifth,
- 32:46Speaker 3: would be the new House Judiciary chair. Originally the job
- 32:49Speaker 3: was going to go to Brandon Steele, but to following
- 32:51Speaker 3: the release of shall we say Troubling Things? You all
- 32:54Speaker 3: know the story by now, a decision was made to
- 32:56Speaker 3: put jb Acres in that role, and the good Delegates
- 32:58Speaker 3: joins us this morning. Mister Acres, good morning, how are
- 33:01Speaker 3: you hey?
- 33:01Speaker 10: I'm good man. I'm just glad that those texts came
- 33:03Speaker 10: in before I took the chairs. But there's probably more
- 33:06Speaker 10: of those comments.
- 33:07Speaker 3: There always are, there always are. I guess congratulations are
- 33:10Speaker 3: in order, sir.
- 33:10Speaker 10: I appreciate it, man, And I just want to say
- 33:13Speaker 10: quickly before we move on to me patting myself in
- 33:15Speaker 10: the back, that you know, hope Delegates Steals doing well.
- 33:19Speaker 10: I messaged with him just once a day after this
- 33:21Speaker 10: stuff all hit the media. I didn't know anything about it.
- 33:24Speaker 10: I mean when I saw in the news is the
- 33:26Speaker 10: first time I knew about it. So, you know, he's
- 33:28Speaker 10: got a family of wife and children, and my thoughts
- 33:31Speaker 10: are with them, and he's taking a little break. He's
- 33:33Speaker 10: still in the legislature, but he's just taking a little
- 33:35Speaker 10: personal break, which he and his family deserve, and I
- 33:37Speaker 10: just hope they're doing well.
- 33:39Speaker 3: So I'm asking a really dumb question because that's what
- 33:41Speaker 3: I do here. You didn't have to laugh at that,
- 33:43Speaker 3: by the way, So what exactly is the role of
- 33:46Speaker 3: the House Judiciary Chair? I mean, you hear it thrown
- 33:48Speaker 3: out there in the news a lot. It's a high,
- 33:50Speaker 3: very high profile position. But what exactly does the judiciary
- 33:53Speaker 3: chair do?
- 33:54Speaker 10: Yeah, so we were joking before we went in the
- 33:56Speaker 10: air about how I wish sometimes this was a podcast
- 33:58Speaker 10: we could spend more time. I'll do my best to
- 34:00Speaker 10: encapsulate this quickly. So in the House, well the Senate.
- 34:04Speaker 10: In the House both have multiple committees. The structure on
- 34:08Speaker 10: both sides is a little different, especially this year. The
- 34:10Speaker 10: House has been completely restructured in terms of we have
- 34:14Speaker 10: six what we call major standing committees. Then under each
- 34:17Speaker 10: one of those standing committees, they have authority over three
- 34:21Speaker 10: subcommittees each. So the Judiciary is one of what we
- 34:25Speaker 10: call the six major standing committees, and Judiciary and Finance
- 34:30Speaker 10: are generally referred to as the two most significant committees
- 34:35Speaker 10: really in both chambers, but in the House in particular.
- 34:37Speaker 10: It's not because I'm going to say that the work
- 34:39Speaker 10: we do is more important than the work any other
- 34:41Speaker 10: committee does. You know, we have an Education Committee, for example,
- 34:45Speaker 10: which nothing's more important than education. But the reason why
- 34:48Speaker 10: Judiciary is often referred to as one of the two
- 34:50Speaker 10: most significant committees is our subject matter in that committee
- 34:54Speaker 10: is so broad day we deal with all kinds of issues.
- 34:57Speaker 10: So the Education Committee will focus solely in it educational
- 35:00Speaker 10: issues obviously, as the name implies, but we also sometimes
- 35:03Speaker 10: get educational issues in Judiciary. I mean, example might be
- 35:07Speaker 10: school discipline issues. There could be a broad range of
- 35:09Speaker 10: things that deal with schools. The only thing we really
- 35:12Speaker 10: don't delve into in Judiciary is the budget. That's strictly
- 35:15Speaker 10: what the Finance Committee does. But you know, we also
- 35:17Speaker 10: have a Government Organization's Committee, which is a major standing committee,
- 35:21Speaker 10: but we deal with with local government issues like municipal
- 35:24Speaker 10: laws and ordinances, for example. Some of those are addressed
- 35:26Speaker 10: in judiciary. So we have the broadest range of issues
- 35:29Speaker 10: we deal with in Judiciary, and we're also the busiest
- 35:32Speaker 10: committee by far. It's really not even close in terms
- 35:34Speaker 10: of the number of bills that come in, and it's
- 35:36Speaker 10: because we do have so much overlap with the other committees.
- 35:38Speaker 10: I mean, we have a health committee. Sometimes we get
- 35:41Speaker 10: health issues that run through Judiciary. So my role is
- 35:44Speaker 10: the chair the way I see it. At least other
- 35:46Speaker 10: people who've been sharing may disagree, but my role is
- 35:48Speaker 10: chair as I see it is Number one. Just run
- 35:50Speaker 10: a solid committee. You have a lot of responsibilities. I've
- 35:53Speaker 10: got a staff of a handful of people who I've
- 35:56Speaker 10: got to help manage. And they're all professionals. They're going
- 35:58Speaker 10: to be fine. They're going to they were there before
- 36:00Speaker 10: where I was chairing. They'll be there after I'm gone. Uh,
- 36:02Speaker 10: but they're they're good people. But I've got to, you know,
- 36:04Speaker 10: help manage them. We have bills that the body of
- 36:09Speaker 10: the legend the House wants to run that may wind
- 36:13Speaker 10: up in Judiciary, so I've got to make sure those
- 36:14Speaker 10: bills are managed appropriately. And but the biggest difference in
- 36:18Speaker 10: my time is going to be I'm gonna have to
- 36:19Speaker 10: meet with just a lot more people during the session,
- 36:23Speaker 10: and that's there's pros and cons to that.
- 36:25Speaker 9: You know.
- 36:25Speaker 10: Last year is a regular delegate, Uh, I was able
- 36:28Speaker 10: to focus, you know, on what happened at the State
- 36:30Speaker 10: House and constituent services. I get a lot of calls
- 36:33Speaker 10: and emails. Now I've got to be the guy who
- 36:35Speaker 10: a lot of the people who are what we call
- 36:37Speaker 10: stakeholders and these bills. It could be a criminal justice
- 36:40Speaker 10: reform because judiciary deals with a lot of criminal justice
- 36:42Speaker 10: issues is one example we look at. I can have
- 36:45Speaker 10: to meet with those folks Sheriffs Association, prosecutors, uh, the
- 36:50Speaker 10: Public Defender's Office uh, or just any number of other
- 36:53Speaker 10: other people. Uh. So we have banking bills that wind
- 36:56Speaker 10: up in for judiciary sometimes, I mean, you name it.
- 36:59Speaker 10: So I'm gonna have to meet with those folks and
- 37:01Speaker 10: just hear them out and give everybody a seat the table.
- 37:04Speaker 10: And that's going to be a high demand of my time.
- 37:06Speaker 10: In terms of just being face to face, which I
- 37:08Speaker 10: want to do. I think that's the best way to
- 37:10Speaker 10: communicate get things done, is just actually sitting down talking
- 37:12Speaker 10: to people, which you know in this day and age
- 37:14Speaker 10: when people are on their phones a lot. Communicating to
- 37:17Speaker 10: me there's no substitute for a face to face conversation.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Talking again with the new household this year A chair
- 37:22Speaker 3: jb acres at sixteen minutes away from Tampa day valland

- 37:30Speaker 3: are protected by jute dot Com. Let's talk about the
- 37:35Speaker 3: session itself a little bit later start this year because
- 37:38Speaker 3: the governor, you know, put a new governor into very
- 37:41Speaker 3: twelfth I think is going to be the starting date.
- 37:44Speaker 3: What are you most looking forward to with the new session.
- 37:46Speaker 10: It'll start the day for my birthday, so I hope
- 37:48Speaker 10: that that goes well. What a birthday present?
- 37:50Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 37:51Speaker 10: The thing I'm looking forward to most is is getting
- 37:54Speaker 10: things done. I ran for this position to get stuff done,
- 37:59Speaker 10: and I mean that whole So I like to accomplish
- 38:01Speaker 10: things like to be positive. I've been on your show
- 38:03Speaker 10: multiple times. I hope you'll agree that I generally try
- 38:06Speaker 10: to maintain a positive demeanor. I don't, you know, I don't.
- 38:09Speaker 10: I don't say negative things better people. Sometimes you've got
- 38:11Speaker 10: to be critical of other ideas and that's just part
- 38:15Speaker 10: of politics and part of government, but I try it
- 38:17Speaker 10: to be critical of people and personalities. So, uh, I
- 38:20Speaker 10: most look forward to going there and solving challenges and
- 38:24Speaker 10: getting stuff done. And I'll tell you this too, people
- 38:26Speaker 10: can tell me I'm crazy. Actually enjoy being at the Capitol.
- 38:31Speaker 10: I've formed a lot of genuine friendships there, and some
- 38:34Speaker 10: of the people there I don't agree with on a
- 38:36Speaker 10: lot of issues, but I consider those folks to be
- 38:39Speaker 10: my friends. And we can sit down and we can
- 38:41Speaker 10: talk about stuff and hash it out, and we may
- 38:43Speaker 10: still not agree when when the conversation is over with,
- 38:46Speaker 10: but we walk, we shake hands, and we walk away.
- 38:48Speaker 11: Uh.
- 38:49Speaker 10: I enjoy the process, and I enjoy hearing from people
- 38:51Speaker 10: in my district. I mean, uh, sometimes I'll go out
- 38:55Speaker 10: and people complain about some sort of road issue that
- 38:58Speaker 10: they're having, and I'll drive look at it myself, and
- 39:01Speaker 10: as long as I've got time to do those things, like,
- 39:03Speaker 10: I really kind of like that. And that's small level stuff.
- 39:07Speaker 10: But then the thing that I'll tell you I really
- 39:08Speaker 10: enjoy the most is I love to focus on economic
- 39:13Speaker 10: development for the state of West Virginia. Job recruitment, business recruitment,
- 39:18Speaker 10: job creation, I was on the phone multiple times last
- 39:21Speaker 10: week with some folks out of state trying to get
- 39:23Speaker 10: them to do business with the state of West Virginia.
- 39:25Speaker 10: I've got another phone call with somebody this later this week,
- 39:28Speaker 10: trying to get them to come to the state of
- 39:30Speaker 10: West Virginia. So, if you're gonna ask me what the
- 39:32Speaker 10: thing is that really gets me excited the most, it's
- 39:34Speaker 10: the proposition that we're going to get more jobs here
- 39:37Speaker 10: for the people who live in the state and to
- 39:38Speaker 10: attract more people to move to the state.
- 39:41Speaker 3: You're a relative newcomer to the legislature. I mean, you've
- 39:44Speaker 3: been there for a couple of years, but there are
- 39:46Speaker 3: going there are some totally new faces, but that it
- 39:49Speaker 3: will be there this year. If you had any advice
- 39:51Speaker 3: to a new legislator coming into the House, or of
- 39:54Speaker 3: the Senate for that matter, if you had any advice
- 39:55Speaker 3: for anybody coming in, what might that be.
- 39:59Speaker 10: Remember that guy gets two years in one mouth, do
- 40:02Speaker 10: a lot of listening, which is good advice for anybody,
- 40:05Speaker 10: you know. But a lot of people who run for office,
- 40:07Speaker 10: they make promise that they're going to go there and
- 40:09Speaker 10: change things. And that's something that's fine. You should do
- 40:13Speaker 10: that but at the same time, you got to remember
- 40:16Speaker 10: there's one hundred people in the House of Delegates. Just
- 40:18Speaker 10: on our side, there's thirty four senators. So these issues
- 40:21Speaker 10: take take a work, and they take a lot of compromise.
- 40:23Speaker 10: And the Judiciary Committee, for example. You know, if people
- 40:26Speaker 10: don't know this, by the time you see the stuff
- 40:29Speaker 10: that happens on the floor of the House, stay that's
- 40:30Speaker 10: the big room where we all set and it's a
- 40:32Speaker 10: really nice chamber. Most of the work has already been
- 40:35Speaker 10: done on a bill before it gets to the House floor.
- 40:37Speaker 10: You'll see some significant changes occasionally on a floor, but
- 40:40Speaker 10: usually the significant work is done in the committee and
- 40:43Speaker 10: for people who haven't been to the Capitol. And I
- 40:45Speaker 10: would encourage anyone to come to my committee room. It's
- 40:47Speaker 10: a public These hearings are public. I'd love to see
- 40:49Speaker 10: folks actually come and be part of the process, even
- 40:51Speaker 10: if you're just going to watch. I mean, we have
- 40:53Speaker 10: witnesses who coming unto oath, We have evidence presented, so
- 40:57Speaker 10: you know, by the time he gets to the floor.
- 40:58Speaker 10: I think some people think we just go there, we
- 41:00Speaker 10: stand up and we argue, and you know, we point
- 41:02Speaker 10: fingers and how hold a microphone? But there's a lot
- 41:04Speaker 10: of work that goes into a bill before it gets there.
- 41:06Speaker 10: The real work is done in the committee room. So,
- 41:08Speaker 10: as you said, hundred percent. And that's one reason why
- 41:10Speaker 10: you talk about the influence of the committees. It's because
- 41:12Speaker 10: the build that comes out of the committee is the
- 41:13Speaker 10: version that hits the floor, which might be a lot
- 41:16Speaker 10: different than how it came into the committee room. So, yeah,
- 41:18Speaker 10: the real work isn't committee.
- 41:20Speaker 3: All right, delicate Acres, I do have a text here
- 41:23Speaker 3: for you that says, I bet you the relish lobby
- 41:26Speaker 3: won't get a meeting with the judiciary chair. Now, if
- 41:29Speaker 3: you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about, this is
- 41:31Speaker 3: a thing that delegated. It never dies. Delegate Acres and
- 41:35Speaker 3: his wife have a difference of opinion. And I love
- 41:38Speaker 3: the fact that you know the silliest things, and the
- 41:42Speaker 3: silliest things are what we need more of in this life.
- 41:44Speaker 3: It's a difference of opinion between you and Judge Acres
- 41:48Speaker 3: on hot dog relish on relish.
- 41:51Speaker 10: Yeah, so this started. I didn't mean to suck up
- 41:53Speaker 10: too much of our time talking about this, but West
- 41:56Speaker 10: Virginia Day of last year, Junia twentieth of twenty twenty four.
- 42:00Speaker 10: Or my wife loves a relation a hot dog and
- 42:02Speaker 10: I'm against it. I tell her that a West Virginia
- 42:03Speaker 10: hot dog is you know, it's chili mustard slaw on
- 42:05Speaker 10: onions only, and she puts Relish on hers. So I've
- 42:08Speaker 10: got a T shirt that says that it's chili mustard
- 42:10Speaker 10: slaw onions and I put it on. Took a softie
- 42:12Speaker 10: on West Virginia and I thought would get you know,
- 42:13Speaker 10: maybe ten of my friends would like if it's dead.
- 42:16Speaker 10: But then she put up some smarter like comment about
- 42:18Speaker 10: Relish and somehow it just spun out of control, took
- 42:20Speaker 10: on a life of its own, and for the next
- 42:22Speaker 10: I don't know, five months, I was getting people to
- 42:25Speaker 10: send in Relish to my house. I was getting relished
- 42:28Speaker 10: T shirts sent to me, and she had course, you know,
- 42:30Speaker 10: because my wife is the better version of us, she
- 42:33Speaker 10: was getting most of the support, whether people like relish
- 42:35Speaker 10: or not, there on her side. So but then we
- 42:37Speaker 10: all see it turned in to a positive thing as well,
- 42:39Speaker 10: because it was a joke. It was very lighthearted, but
- 42:43Speaker 10: it kind of was a West Virginia issue because it
- 42:45Speaker 10: dealt with WESTERNI hot dogs and so, you know, I
- 42:47Speaker 10: just kind of made the most of it, and it
- 42:49Speaker 10: was a way to actually just in a positive way,
- 42:52Speaker 10: just communicating and talk to people, which is my favorite
- 42:54Speaker 10: thing to do.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Well.
- 42:55Speaker 3: And again I think sometimes we need a little we
- 42:59Speaker 3: need a little a BlimE every now and then. You
- 43:01Speaker 3: can't take your kitting he too seriously, we need we need.
- 43:04Speaker 6: More of that.
- 43:04Speaker 5: Well.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Uh, you know, it's always pleasure to having the show
- 43:07Speaker 3: delegate house to share a chair. Any final work for
- 43:10Speaker 3: you before.
- 43:10Speaker 10: You go, h you mentioned my wife, So she's in
- 43:12Speaker 10: the middle obviously of a very high profile trial. She's
- 43:15Speaker 10: a judge here in Kannall County, and man, what a
- 43:17Speaker 10: horrible situation that is. Uh, with the facts of that case.
- 43:20Speaker 10: You guys are covering it at your station. That's a
- 43:22Speaker 10: white feather a trial involving the child abuse. So I
- 43:26Speaker 10: hope we just all keep those kids in our thoughts
- 43:28Speaker 10: and prayers and you know, whatever the outcome, I hope
- 43:31Speaker 10: those kids are okay.
- 43:32Speaker 3: All right, Delegates, and now how should share it? Chair
- 43:35Speaker 3: j b Acres, I appreciate you being here.
- 43:36Speaker 10: Man, Hey, thank you, buddy. I'll listen to find out
- 43:38Speaker 10: what the text are when I leave.

- 46:50Speaker 3: top choice from the beginning, says a textured I asked
- 46:55Speaker 3: JB if he likes to rellish on his hot dogs. Yeah,
- 46:56Speaker 3: I think we've already covered that. Text in all capital letters,
- 47:01Speaker 3: says no relish. That person really meant that they took
- 47:04Speaker 3: the time to do it in all caps to say
- 47:06Speaker 3: no relish tex says Dave. Now the drug cartels are
- 47:09Speaker 3: designated terrorist organizations. Do the people fleeing these terrorist organizations
- 47:13Speaker 3: get to claim asylum in the US, thus protecting them
- 47:16Speaker 3: from deportation? Texas for kids? There's a page program in
- 47:22Speaker 3: both houses. Indeed there is, tex says Dave. Just wanted
- 47:25Speaker 3: to thank Biden for the great jobs and infrastructure he
- 47:28Speaker 3: brought to our state. Hate to see it in the
- 47:31Speaker 3: US economy best in the world, says a Texter. So
- 47:35Speaker 3: onder day one of the new and improved Trump administration.
- 47:39Speaker 3: It was a day of a celebration or sorrow, depending
- 47:42Speaker 3: on your perspective. And I had lots of people reach
- 47:45Speaker 3: out to me from my perspective, and for me, it's complicated.
- 47:51Speaker 3: You know, you've listened to me for nearly five years now.
- 47:53Speaker 3: You know my story when it comes to President Trump.
- 47:55Speaker 3: I voted for him in twenty sixteen and again in
- 47:57Speaker 3: twenty twenty, but not in twenty twenty four. I just
- 48:01Speaker 3: could not bring myself to do it for a variety
- 48:03Speaker 3: of reasons. It didn't mean I've abandoned my mostly conservative
- 48:08Speaker 3: slash libertarian views on a lot of things. I just
- 48:12Speaker 3: could not go along with the chaos of the first
- 48:14Speaker 3: Trump administration, or perhaps more so, the way Trump behaved
- 48:18Speaker 3: or didn't behave on January sixth, and during the Biden presidency,
- 48:24Speaker 3: I would have supported and voted for any other Republican
- 48:27Speaker 3: on the debate stages. Okay, not Ramaswami because that guy
- 48:31Speaker 3: was nuts. But the voters overwhelmingly chose former President Trump.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Not my choice, but I'm okay with it because that's
- 48:38Speaker 3: how this whole system works. To say I'm happy that
- 48:42Speaker 3: Trump is the president of no, I probably not, but
- 48:46Speaker 3: it doesn't matter. He's the president, and I'm going to
- 48:49Speaker 3: support him and hope he does well. I'm kind of
- 48:51Speaker 3: weird that way. I'm an American and I want my
- 48:54Speaker 3: president to succeed. Novel consent. Also, I wanted former President
- 48:59Speaker 3: Biden to do well, and Obama and Clinton, the Bush
- 49:01Speaker 3: is Reagan Throwing, Carter Ford, Nixon, all the presidents during
- 49:05Speaker 3: my lifetime. I want them to succeed and to do well.
- 49:08Speaker 3: And you're never going to hear the words not my
- 49:11Speaker 3: president come from my lips period. Donald Trump is my
- 49:15Speaker 3: president now today one he did exactly what he said
- 49:20Speaker 3: he was going to do with the executive orders. You know,
- 49:23Speaker 3: them all. You know, you know them all by now.
- 49:26Speaker 3: I am most troubled by the party end of the
- 49:28Speaker 3: January sixth guys, to be honest, but that's just me,
- 49:34Speaker 3: and most of our daily lives really aren't impacted that
- 49:37Speaker 3: much by what goes on at sixteen hundred Pennsylvania Avenue.
- 49:43Speaker 3: I guess one of my big issues for me to
- 49:45Speaker 3: talk about this is the idolatry that a lot of
- 49:48Speaker 3: people have for Donald Trump. I'm not talking about people
- 49:51Speaker 3: that voted for him. I'm talking about and you know
- 49:54Speaker 3: him as well as I do. There are a lot
- 49:55Speaker 3: of people that treat him like a god, and he's
- 49:57Speaker 3: the furthest thing from a god that you could probably
- 50:00Speaker 3: ever imagine, as are most politicians for that matter, Democrat
- 50:04Speaker 3: or Republican. I'm a little troubled as well scrolling social
- 50:08Speaker 3: media and seeing grown people making comments like daddy's home.
- 50:13Speaker 3: I didn't call my own late father daddy, and I'm
- 50:16Speaker 3: definitely not going to call Donald Trump daddy.
- 50:18Speaker 6: But you know, it is what it is.
- 50:21Speaker 3: I hate that expression probably as badly as you do.
- 50:24Speaker 3: He's the president of the United States. I will say
- 50:26Speaker 3: this about the inauguration performance Kerrie Underwood yesterday the sound malfunctions,
- 50:33Speaker 3: and she goes all acapella, and I wonder if that
- 50:35Speaker 3: were happening in the Super Bowl here in a couple
- 50:36Speaker 3: of weeks. How many Super Bowl performers could pour that up?
- 50:39Speaker 3: Probably not many. So this morning, you're either extremely happy
- 50:43Speaker 3: or you're ready to jump off a bridge. There was
- 50:46Speaker 3: a quote from the always great George Will who said
- 50:50Speaker 3: this is a direct quote. Today, many emotionally dilapidated obsessives
- 50:55Speaker 3: experience either despair or euphoria about the inaugurations of presidents
- 50:59Speaker 3: who come and go oh. Both groups should rethink what
- 51:02Speaker 3: they expect from politics and why they do it. Let
- 51:06Speaker 3: that one sink in for a moment. Tex says Dave,
- 51:10Speaker 3: no contest. The best hot dog is a spring Hill
- 51:12Speaker 3: pastry hot dog, says a text. Okay, all right, t J.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Meadows is here, hay do on man.
- 51:19Speaker 15: I'm down in the dumps, But not because of the inaugural,
- 51:22Speaker 15: because Ohio State one.
- 51:24Speaker 3: You're a You're not a Buckeye fan, are not at all?
- 51:27Speaker 3: I'm a Georgia Bulldog fan. They watched it at home
- 51:29Speaker 3: like I did. So what's on a big show today?
- 51:31Speaker 10: Bud?
- 51:32Speaker 3: So we kick off ten oh six, Greg Thomas is here.
- 51:34Speaker 15: We'll talk the inaugural, we'll talk executive orders, all things
- 51:37Speaker 15: President Trump, and much more. Jared Halprin from Washington, DC

- 51:43Speaker 15: by one. We'll get a you know, check on where
- 51:45Speaker 15: we are coming up. At ten forty five, Brad mclaheney
- 51:47Speaker 15: has a piece at wv metro news dot com talking
- 51:49Speaker 15: about West Virginians who were JA sixers and otherwise they
- 51:53Speaker 15: got pardons.
- 51:53Speaker 10: We'll get into that.
- 51:55Speaker 15: Robert Bolton, Fairmont State University political scientist joins us at
- 51:59Speaker 15: eleven six again to talk about all things Donald Trump.
- 52:03Speaker 15: And then eleven thirty three, Chris Hamilton from the West
- 52:05Speaker 15: Virginia Coal Association joins us. David's cold outside. Really, PJM
- 52:09Speaker 15: has actually issued a voltage alerts, which you know, loosely says, hey,
- 52:14Speaker 15: we gotta we gotta watch here. We gotta make sure
- 52:16Speaker 15: the grid maintains integrity. Cole has skyrocketed in use in
- 52:20Speaker 15: the last couple of days. Chris will talk about that
- 52:23Speaker 15: and we'll talk about the future of COLE.
- 52:24Speaker 3: All right, DJ, I appreciate you being here, man. We
