- 0:10Speaker 1: God bless football, Mikey A. God bless football, Bear.
- 0:17Speaker 2: God bless football, gentlemen. Look, I don't think God was
- 0:21Speaker 2: blessing football last night on the banks of the Raritan
- 0:24Speaker 2: with the University of Massachusetts Minutemen. Close to a 30-point
- 0:29Speaker 2: dog winning by 17 points. That was quite an eye-opener
- 0:33Speaker 2: last night.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It sure was. And the fact that UMass was paid
- 0:36Speaker 1: over a million dollars to get that victory over Rutgers.
- 0:39Speaker 1: The fact that Rutgers still went on with the fireworks
- 0:41Speaker 1: show after the game because they were so pleased with
- 0:44Speaker 1: their performances. Laugh out loud. Funny. But Bear, I have
- 0:50Speaker 1: grown up. I grew up in the Northeast. Rutgers have
- 0:53Speaker 1: been bad my entire life. Why would they be favored
- 0:56Speaker 1: by 30 points over anybody? I mean.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Because UMass hadn't beaten a team in the Power 4,
- 1:04Speaker 2: Power 5 league since they went up to the FBS level.
- 1:09Speaker 2: They scored 14 points, I believe, four times last year
- 1:13Speaker 2: in any game. The bigger question from all this to, look,
- 1:18Speaker 2: I hate talking about all the off-the-field shit, but all
- 1:24Speaker 2: the conference expansion talk, why? I think we're going to
- 1:28Speaker 2: reach a point where we're going to have conference-like contraction.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I know the times have changed. We're adapting and evolving
- 1:37Speaker 2: in college football as we go along. What does Rutgers
- 1:41Speaker 2: bring to the Big Ten?
- 1:43Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 1:44Speaker 2: The basketball team stinks. I don't think any of their
- 1:47Speaker 2: non-reb sports are upper echelon in the Big Ten. They're
- 1:54Speaker 2: close to New York in terms of proximity. Not like
- 1:58Speaker 2: anyone in New York is chosen to watch and turn
- 2:01Speaker 2: the television on. Like, is there a point where the
- 2:05Speaker 2: Big Ten was like, it just kind of is like, nah.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Go to the A-10 or whatever.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I mean, they have 20 teams now, so you just
- 2:13Speaker 1: shave it down to 19 is what you're saying.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Like, that's the, and I think with the whole.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The Big 19.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Protect college sports, like. Do you trim a team and
- 2:24Speaker 2: do you bring in a team that actually has a
- 2:26Speaker 2: legitimate football team or has a legitimate basketball team or
- 2:29Speaker 2: has a legitimate, not like you can talk about like, oh, Nebraska,
- 2:34Speaker 2: Nebraska at least got an unbelievable volleyball team. Maryland has
- 2:38Speaker 2: a good women's basketball program. I mean, if you want
- 2:40Speaker 2: to talk about teams that don't really, but what does
- 2:43Speaker 2: Rutgers bring into the Big Ten?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Nothing. Well, no, they bring us laughs. I mean, they do.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I mean, to have a firework show after being a
- 2:50Speaker 1: 30-point favorite at home and losing that game outright and
- 2:53Speaker 1: still going on with a firework show, I appreciate Rutgers,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and I want them to stay right there.
- 2:58Speaker 3: How about that? And they paid $ 1. 5 million to UNAS
- 3:04Speaker 3: to play that game. And I would just say, you know,
- 3:07Speaker 3: if you're already pot committed, go ahead and play the fireworks.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You already spent the money on them anyway, so. What's
- 3:13Speaker 1: another couple of grand?
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Let's take Rutgers out of the Big 20 and put
- 3:19Speaker 1: UMass in. How's that sound? What do you think?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Perfect. Yes. Exactly. We'll get the combo Boston market there
- 3:27Speaker 2: in a lovely Amherst mess.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yes. I can't believe you're in Bloomington, Indiana right now.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I am.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That we are starting college football seasons. Mikey, this is
- 3:38Speaker 1: unbelievable that we are starting college football seasons in Bloomington, Indiana,
- 3:43Speaker 1: because Indiana is on top of the football world, man.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Bear, if I would have told you 365 days ago, hey,
- 3:52Speaker 3: next year, you're going to need to be in Bloomington,
- 3:56Speaker 3: Indiana to start the season because that's going to be
- 3:59Speaker 3: the central hub of the college football world.
- 4:03Speaker 1: What would you have said to me?
- 4:06Speaker 2: I would have laughed at you and told you you
- 4:07Speaker 2: were absolutely insane.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Actually, you mean Indiana's going to play a big non-conference
- 4:13Speaker 2: game against a big, powerful opponent to start her off? Oh,
- 4:17Speaker 2: the Big Ten's going to start with Indiana, Ohio State,
- 4:19Speaker 2: right out of the gate? That would have been my reaction.
- 4:23Speaker 2: As a Miami alum, when I kind of pulled in
- 4:26Speaker 2: late last night, I kind of had a little wheezy feeling.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I kind of wanted to throw up after just kind of, oh, God,
- 4:33Speaker 2: this is it. I'm going to be here for a
- 4:35Speaker 2: national championship celebration. But, hey, give them credit, man. They
- 4:41Speaker 2: won the title, and they are deserving of all of
- 4:44Speaker 2: the accolades that they are. I might even plagiarize and
- 4:48Speaker 2: steal your question that you asked the other day on
- 4:51Speaker 2: the show tomorrow. I might ask during the show, like,
- 4:54Speaker 2: Indiana fans, are you a basketball school or a football school?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Oh, you should. Yes.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I think it was John Fanta who was on with
- 5:04Speaker 1: us yesterday. He said, if you ask an Indiana fan,
- 5:09Speaker 1: would you rather win a national championship this year in
- 5:13Speaker 1: basketball or football? He felt like most people would respond basketball.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I would agree with that.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I would agree with that. Maybe in a weird way, though.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Maybe it's because... The basketball program has been down for
- 5:29Speaker 2: so long, and they haven't won a title in forever.
- 5:33Speaker 2: And they got to the title game with Mike Davis in, what, 2002? Yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 2: Mike Davis, yes. Maryland? Yeah. But the basketball team's been down. So, like,
- 5:44Speaker 2: in a sense, the football team was at the bottom,
- 5:46Speaker 2: and they came back up and won a title, maybe
- 5:48Speaker 2: in that sense. But I'd be curious to get the reaction.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yes. What'd you make of Colorado pulling that one out
- 5:55Speaker 1: on the road? Georgia Tech, I'm so accustomed to Georgia
- 5:57Speaker 1: Tech getting off to that 2-0, 3-0 start and being
- 5:59Speaker 1: ranked like number nine in the country, and then they
- 6:01Speaker 1: just fall out of the top 25 eventually. Not the
- 6:04Speaker 1: case this year. But Deion gets a big win on
- 6:07Speaker 1: the road. That was impressive for Colorado.
- 6:10Speaker 2: That was because we all laughed and had our chuckles
- 6:13Speaker 2: at the videos that they were sending out and kind
- 6:15Speaker 2: of looking like an undersized JV team. But they... that's
- 6:19Speaker 2: an alarming loss for Georgia tech, man.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Like if you're Brent key and you pride yourself on
- 6:25Speaker 2: running game and offensive line and toughness in the trenches
- 6:28Speaker 2: and you get manhandled by Colorado up front and both
- 6:31Speaker 2: sides of the ball, that is a bad, bad deal.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But give, give CU credit. They, they really should have
- 6:38Speaker 2: been up bigger in the game. It probably should not
- 6:40Speaker 2: have come down to what it did at the end,
- 6:43Speaker 2: but that they, they came out and they made the
- 6:46Speaker 2: plays when they had to. And, Good for them for winning.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if my big noon travels have
- 6:51Speaker 2: me headed to Boulder in a couple weeks.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I'm just surprised, Dion. You know what? I think a
- 6:56Speaker 1: lot of people just assume once Shador was gone, Dion
- 6:58Speaker 1: was gone. Dion is in this for the long term.
- 7:00Speaker 1: He wants to be a coach. Yeah, he takes it seriously.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And good for.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Him because I think it kind of dispels a lot
- 7:09Speaker 2: of myths and puts people in their place. He does
- 7:12Speaker 2: want to be involved in these kids' lives, and he
- 7:14Speaker 2: does want to coach, and he loves the sport, and
- 7:16Speaker 2: he loves... being a mentor and a teacher to all these. But, yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 2: after the way last year went, the way they finished,
- 7:23Speaker 2: who would have blamed him if he was like, yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 2: I can't do that, my health problems. But I think
- 7:27Speaker 2: he has a lot to prove to himself, too.
- 7:28Speaker 1: All right, we'll get to some picks here in a
- 7:31Speaker 1: few minutes. Everyone very thrilled with Bear last week because
- 7:33Speaker 1: he gave us North Carolina. And Virginia. And Virginia. Taylor
- 7:38Speaker 1: is thrilled because Carolina is off, which means they get
- 7:41Speaker 1: to be 1-0 for another week. He can sit back
- 7:45Speaker 1: and relax and not have to worry about Bill Belichick
- 7:50Speaker 1: losing another game. The Canes play Stanford tonight. Bear went
- 7:53Speaker 1: to the University of Miami. So we will get to
- 7:55Speaker 1: the picks here in just a second. But what do
- 7:58Speaker 1: you make of what's going on? I don't like discussing
- 8:00Speaker 1: it either. I can't wait for the games to start.
- 8:03Speaker 1: But Lane Kiffin, I mean, this guy and the SEC–
- 8:08Speaker 1: And now you have the SEC suing LSU. And Lane
- 8:11Speaker 1: Kiffin doesn't give a bleep about any of it, including
- 8:13Speaker 1: the kids. And this is, listen, my overall problem with
- 8:18Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin is this. He comes out of a meeting.
- 8:21Speaker 1: He announces to everyone, my kids are okay with this.
- 8:25Speaker 1: They're on board with me getting professional players and bringing
- 8:29Speaker 1: them here to LSU. And what I'm telling Lane Kiffin is,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I don't care what they say. I don't care if
- 8:36Speaker 1: every one of them says, yeah, we're okay with this, Coach.
- 8:39Speaker 1: They're afraid to say otherwise. Lane Kiffin is trying to
- 8:44Speaker 1: justify something that cannot be justified. These kids want to play.
- 8:48Speaker 1: They don't want competition. They've been there the entire time,
- 8:53Speaker 1: and now two kids are going to waltz in who
- 8:54Speaker 1: play to the University of Mississippi and take somebody else's
- 8:58Speaker 1: playing time. Nobody, and I mean nobody, not one kid
- 9:02Speaker 1: in that locker room is okay with this.
- 9:06Speaker 2: That's the biggest thing that I have an issue with
- 9:09Speaker 2: here is that the kids that are on the team,
- 9:12Speaker 2: the young kids that are looking to get an opportunity
- 9:14Speaker 2: to play, that's who this is hurting. Yes. I couldn't, like, why,
- 9:19Speaker 2: what are we doing? Every possible decision that is being
- 9:24Speaker 2: made and going to court is ultimately hurting the sport.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Kids who are getting recruited, kids who have sat and
- 9:32Speaker 2: waited a year with the expectation that they're going to
- 9:34Speaker 2: move in, like, I he can't play them I mean
- 9:38Speaker 2: not even Lane can be that obtuse to to play
- 9:42Speaker 2: these guys knowing of the potential ramifications down the line
- 9:47Speaker 2: like it.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Just like there but just imagine the reaction if one
- 9:50Speaker 1: of those kids says hey you know what Lane I'm
- 9:52Speaker 1: not okay with this this is BS he's too.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Afraid to say it right correct you know no one's
- 9:58Speaker 4: no one's gonna get disagree And I don't want to
- 10:02Speaker 4: say I don't blame Lane, but all these coaches, it's
- 10:05Speaker 4: all about self-preservation.
- 10:07Speaker 2: All they want to do is win. But here's another
- 10:12Speaker 2: thing that not many people will bring up or have
- 10:15Speaker 2: brought up. Some have. What does this say about Lane
- 10:19Speaker 2: and his opinion of the roster that he has. He's
- 10:23Speaker 2: looking to bring back a couple of guys that didn't
- 10:27Speaker 2: make it in camp in the NFL and are looking
- 10:30Speaker 2: to come back. Is this a potential sign of, like,
- 10:33Speaker 2: maybe my team isn't as good as I thought it
- 10:35Speaker 2: was and I can really help myself out now?
- 10:37Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't blame Lane either. I mean, he's doing stuff,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I guess– He's doing stuff that he can do, okay?
- 10:45Speaker 1: So I don't blame him for that. Just don't sell
- 10:47Speaker 1: me on every kid in the locker room is okay
- 10:49Speaker 1: with what it is you're doing. That's all. That's what
- 10:52Speaker 1: I care about because they're not, not one of them. Yeah, Mike.
- 10:56Speaker 3: You're saying we don't blame Lane and we don't blame Lane.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Then who are we blaming?
- 11:00Speaker 3: Because I'm looking at like the scape.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Of college football.
- 11:04Speaker 3: And while I don't agree with what's happening- We kind
- 11:08Speaker 3: of have to be like, well, this is kind of
- 11:09Speaker 3: what you asked for. You wanted to be paid like professionals.
- 11:12Speaker 3: You wanted to make the money and all that. We
- 11:14Speaker 3: got to kind of treat you like professionals. And yeah,
- 11:16Speaker 3: we keep saying the kid is going to be upset
- 11:18Speaker 3: and the kid's going to be upset. But the kid
- 11:20Speaker 3: is now being like, nope, I deserve to be paid
- 11:22Speaker 3: for my, and he does. But at some point, all
- 11:25Speaker 3: the other stuff that comes with making all that money
- 11:28Speaker 3: has to come with it. And that is somebody else
- 11:31Speaker 3: is better.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yes, but not somebody else who already turned pro. I
- 11:35Speaker 1: don't think any of the kids ever expected they'd be
- 11:36Speaker 1: dealing with that, and that's the problem. I agree with you.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I agree, and this feels icky.
- 11:41Speaker 2: This just feels icky.
- 11:43Speaker 1: All of it feels icky.
- 11:44Speaker 3: But at the same time, I go, well, this is
- 11:47Speaker 3: kind of the slope you went down, isn't it?
- 11:49Speaker 1: Yes. No, but I think kids are okay. I think
- 11:51Speaker 1: they realize the game has changed, that people are going
- 11:53Speaker 1: to come in, that they're going to have to deal
- 11:55Speaker 1: with people coming in from the transfer portal that they
- 11:57Speaker 1: weren't expecting. What they didn't factor in was that Lane
- 12:01Speaker 1: Kiffin was going to go to the NFL and get
- 12:04Speaker 1: guys who weren't good enough or didn't want to be
- 12:06Speaker 1: there yet, who have already declared themselves for the NFL,
- 12:10Speaker 1: and have them come back to college. I don't think
- 12:11Speaker 1: any kid could have envisioned that, you know? Is that fair, Bear? Fair, Bear.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I like that.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I think that is fair. I think, ultimately... when Mikey
- 12:26Speaker 2: was saying it was about who do we blame? I
- 12:28Speaker 2: don't want to blame. I think the blame does lie
- 12:32Speaker 2: ultimately with the NCAA for not having their eyes wide
- 12:37Speaker 2: open as to what was going on and not thinking
- 12:40Speaker 2: that we were headed towards ultimately a situation where we're
- 12:45Speaker 2: going to have players that need to be paid. And
- 12:47Speaker 2: this is going to ultimately end with some type of
- 12:50Speaker 2: collective bargaining agreement. And I know that creates other issues
- 12:54Speaker 2: down there with, employment status and taxes and however else,
- 12:59Speaker 2: but that's the only way to, to make this as
- 13:02Speaker 2: clean and for you kind of get, you have five,
- 13:05Speaker 2: you got five years to play for this. You can
- 13:09Speaker 2: get cut all the, all the other things that, that,
- 13:11Speaker 2: that is ultimately what has to happen. None of the,
- 13:14Speaker 2: none of the government intervention where it's clear the government
- 13:17Speaker 2: is looking out for the, for the, for the schools
- 13:19Speaker 2: and the university and the conferences and not the players.
- 13:22Speaker 1: It's, I can't believe I'm rooting for Dabo Swinney. All right,
- 13:25Speaker 1: let's get into the weekend. I can't believe this is
- 13:27Speaker 1: the conversation we're having headed into college football week one.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Week zero was last week. There are games to be played.
- 13:33Speaker 1: We're sitting here stuck in a courtroom. It is just unbelievable.
- 13:38Speaker 1: All right, Bear, we have the pen and paper out.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And by we, Mikey has the pen and paper out.
- 13:43Speaker 1: He snapshots it and he sends it over to me.
- 13:45Speaker 3: And I send it to you and then we all
- 13:47Speaker 3: place the bets before we put the episode out so
- 13:49Speaker 3: as the line is not to move.
- 13:51Speaker 1: So what are you thinking about this weekend, Bear? What
- 13:53Speaker 1: are we thinking?
- 13:56Speaker 2: I laid the points with Miami tonight against Stanford, laid
- 13:59Speaker 2: 24 and a half.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Wow.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I just think it's going to be a hard time
- 14:04Speaker 2: for Stanford to move the ball and score points. Their
- 14:07Speaker 2: offensive line is devastated today. with injuries after week one,
- 14:12Speaker 2: I don't think that they'll be able to block Miami.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I think Miami, they have a bunch of guys who
- 14:18Speaker 2: are looking to get into the rotation and get playing
- 14:21Speaker 2: time in addition to the starters already. Mario has had
- 14:24Speaker 2: a tendency to kind of run it up on Stanford
- 14:26Speaker 2: in the past after a couple of really bad losses
- 14:29Speaker 2: to the Cardinal earlier in his coaching career. So I
- 14:32Speaker 2: laid 24 and a half with Miami. I took two
- 14:36Speaker 2: with Cal against UCLA.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:40Speaker 2: I think one of my unproven, unscientific theories that I
- 14:47Speaker 2: have no research result based on is when a line
- 14:50Speaker 2: moves across zero, Cal opened up as the favorite in
- 14:53Speaker 2: this game.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:54Speaker 2: And now UCLA is the favorite. I love when you
- 14:58Speaker 2: get the team that was the favorite and they are
- 15:00Speaker 2: now the underdog. Again, I've got nothing to prove that
- 15:02Speaker 2: this is right or wrong, but in my own head,
- 15:04Speaker 2: I like this. Yes. It should be a fun game.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I think both offenses will be good. I think Cal's
- 15:11Speaker 2: roster right now is better than UCLA. I took Cal
- 15:15Speaker 2: plus two. I took Oregon minus 24 and a half.
- 15:20Speaker 1: If I could just stop you for a second here.
- 15:21Speaker 2: He wants to back up. He wants to back up.
- 15:23Speaker 1: With the Hurricanes and Stanford quickly, is that as much
- 15:27Speaker 1: Stanford being bad as it is Miami being good? Your
- 15:30Speaker 1: thoughts on tonight's game?
- 15:33Speaker 2: I think it's a perfect storm.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I think it's both. I think Miami is much better
- 15:43Speaker 2: on the defensive side of the ball than a lot
- 15:45Speaker 2: of people think they're going to be. And I think
- 15:47Speaker 2: just the situation with Stanford and their offensive line and
- 15:51Speaker 2: not really having the skill position players to put a
- 15:54Speaker 2: threat into Miami. So that's where I am at. Mikey,
- 15:58Speaker 2: what can you tell me about Tarleton State?
- 16:01Speaker 1: Yep.
- 16:05Speaker 2: What can you tell me about tarleton state.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Uh tarleton state tarleton state the texas um yep.
- 16:16Speaker 2: You're gonna be saying yep to taking the two and
- 16:19Speaker 2: a half points against bowling green wow yeah they gave
- 16:23Speaker 2: up uh tarleton had an opener they gave up 30
- 16:25Speaker 2: against prairie view last week which isn't great but their
- 16:28Speaker 2: offense they got a A really good quarterback-running back combination.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Dylan Hines and Caden Anderson's team made FCS playoffs last year.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I believe they're top five right now in the preseason.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Bowling Green completely collapsed down the stretch last week. Offensively,
- 16:47Speaker 2: in the quarterback situation, they got problems. They're a slight
- 16:50Speaker 2: favorite at home. There's no home field at Bowling Green.
- 16:54Speaker 2: So I took Harlan State plus 2.5.
- 16:57Speaker 1: You were headed to Oregon at one point, and I
- 16:59Speaker 1: cut you off.
- 17:01Speaker 2: That's okay. I love Oregon. I love Oregon. This might
- 17:05Speaker 2: be my favorite play of the week. This might be
- 17:09Speaker 2: my unloaded. I think Oregon on the defensive line is
- 17:14Speaker 2: going to wreak havoc on Boise. Boise is kind of
- 17:18Speaker 2: weak at the quarterback position, weak on the offensive line.
- 17:21Speaker 2: A couple of years ago, remember Ashton Genting? They went
- 17:24Speaker 2: to Oregon and played the Ducks tight. But I think
- 17:27Speaker 2: everybody coming back for Oregon, pointing to this season, it
- 17:30Speaker 2: feels like a big win for Oregon. And I got
- 17:34Speaker 2: two more for you.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Okay, wow. Exciting. I mean, listen, it's college football week one.
- 17:39Speaker 4: I know.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I try not to go crazy week one. But then
- 17:44Speaker 2: what happens a lot of times is, and I'm sure
- 17:48Speaker 2: you've discovered this and Mikey's discovered it and Taylor, there's
- 17:52Speaker 2: certain people out there, in certain sites that you like
- 17:56Speaker 2: to fade. Like when certain, they pick a side and
- 18:00Speaker 2: you're like, I got to take the other side just
- 18:03Speaker 2: for prerogative sake. I laid 29 and a half with
- 18:07Speaker 2: Texas against Texas State. I think it's too easy to
- 18:11Speaker 2: say that they're just going to pull their starters. They
- 18:13Speaker 2: got Ohio State next week. They're looking ahead to that.
- 18:17Speaker 2: They don't care. Texas's roster is loaded. Cam Coleman, one
- 18:23Speaker 2: of the best wide receivers in the country. We'll see
- 18:25Speaker 2: what happens with Arch this year. They're going to put
- 18:29Speaker 2: up a bunch of points on Texas State. I don't
- 18:33Speaker 2: think even if they pull their starters, it's going to
- 18:35Speaker 2: be a big deal. And then one of my ugly
- 18:37Speaker 2: dogs of the week is FIU.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Ooh, an ugly dog. FIU. Billy Gill is going to
- 18:42Speaker 1: be thrilled about this pick. Getting 14.5 against South Florida.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Brian Hartline's first game as USF head coach at the Bulls.
- 18:52Speaker 2: But FIU, Simmons is building a little bit of a
- 18:56Speaker 2: culture there. They were kind of plucky at times last year.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Good running game, solid on the defensive side of the ball, really.
- 19:08Speaker 2: They're kind of that team that you're getting guys from
- 19:10Speaker 2: Florida that maybe they're not good enough to play at
- 19:13Speaker 2: the big three or whomever else. But the depth in
- 19:16Speaker 2: athleticism here, 14.5 against a new look USF team with
- 19:21Speaker 2: Brian Hartline in his first game as head coach. I'll
- 19:23Speaker 2: take the Golden Panthers there.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Is that game at Pitbull Stadium?
- 19:30Speaker 2: No, Pitbull. No, it is up at Raymond James, Pirate Ship,
- 19:37Speaker 2: Big Sombrero, whatever stadium it is right now, backfield.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yes. You know what's happening with FIU and other programs is,
- 19:46Speaker 1: you're right, they're getting kids that maybe weren't good enough
- 19:49Speaker 1: to go to Miami. They're getting kids who go to Miami, USF, Florida,
- 19:52Speaker 1: Florida State, who aren't getting the playing time they thought
- 19:54Speaker 1: they were going to play. And FIU reaps the benefits
- 19:57Speaker 1: of getting some of those kids. That's the good thing
- 19:59Speaker 1: about the transfer portal, is those kids get an opportunity
- 20:02Speaker 1: if indeed they want it, you know? Yeah. All right,
- 20:05Speaker 1: so he likes FIU. We have to come up with
- 20:06Speaker 1: names for these. The unloaded game.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Unload the clip is Oregon versus Boise. Unload the clip,
- 20:20Speaker 2: take the money clip off, and start going like... If
- 20:28Speaker 2: I use the dirty dog of the week.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Mikey, you have all these written down? All of them?
- 20:34Speaker 1: What is this, my first day? No, it's not your
- 20:37Speaker 1: first rodeo. I'm just wondering if we need to announce
- 20:40Speaker 1: him again to the audience in the event that they
- 20:42Speaker 1: missed him. It's a podcast. Rewind it. Give us another listen.
- 20:45Speaker 1: He's such a jerk. All right, Mikey A., listen, it's
- 20:50Speaker 1: a big football weekend. The NFL kicks off next week
- 20:54Speaker 1: as well. So what do you think? Do we keep
- 20:56Speaker 1: Bear around here to get his NFL season totals, some over-unders?
- 20:59Speaker 1: What do you think here? I think we need to.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I think my wallet needs to.
- 21:06Speaker 1: We come back. We come back with Bear. Chris Felica.

- 22:51Speaker 1: get to the NFL, Taylor raised a very interesting question
- 22:53Speaker 1: on the show yesterday. I've been thinking about it for
- 22:55Speaker 1: a long time. Can you be, I've been all night, actually.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Can you be a fan? Can your favorite player of
- 23:02Speaker 1: your favorite team be a guy that you never saw play?
- 23:06Speaker 1: Meaning you weren't born when he was playing. Like if
- 23:09Speaker 1: you're a Dallas Cowboys fan and you were born after
- 23:13Speaker 1: Roger Staubach retired, so you never saw him play. And
- 23:16Speaker 1: someone says, hey, who's your favorite Cowboys? Can your response
- 23:20Speaker 1: be Roger Staubach?
- 23:23Speaker 2: No.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Of course not.
- 23:25Speaker 2: That's ridiculous.
- 23:26Speaker 1: That's a ridiculous, ridiculous question.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Taylor thinks you can?
- 23:31Speaker 1: Well, no, I think it's different for different teams. If
- 23:33Speaker 1: you ask Jet fans who is their favorite Jet of
- 23:35Speaker 1: all time, many of them might say Joe Naiman. And
- 23:38Speaker 1: I understand why, even though they hadn't seen him play,
- 23:41Speaker 1: and I understand why. They haven't had anyone better to
- 23:44Speaker 1: root for since Naiman.
- 23:45Speaker 3: They've had Darrell Rivas. They've had Curtis Martin. They've had– no,
- 23:50Speaker 3: this is crazy. This is a crazy question.
- 23:53Speaker 1: All right.
- 23:55Speaker 2: I think maybe there's a different word to use than favorite.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Maybe best, most impactful, legendary. But, yeah, no, favorite, like
- 24:06Speaker 2: I could– Yeah, no, I couldn't say my favorite Jet was–
- 24:11Speaker 2: even though I did see– I was four when Joe
- 24:13Speaker 2: Namath played his last season in the NFL.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I'm just saying I don't blame someone if they say
- 24:18Speaker 1: Joe Namath just because the Jets have been– you do, Mikey.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I do.
- 24:22Speaker 3: I do because all you know of Joe Namath is
- 24:24Speaker 3: the highlights. You don't know– you didn't watch him start
- 24:28Speaker 3: to finish in any game and see, oh, man, he
- 24:32Speaker 3: missed that guy, but I know he's going to come
- 24:33Speaker 3: back because I've watched him.
- 24:35Speaker 1: No, all you know is highlights.
- 24:38Speaker 2: I don't want to hear it.
- 24:39Speaker 1: So if an Oiler fan says, hey, my favorite Oiler
- 24:41Speaker 1: of all time is Wayne Gretzky, he can't say that,
- 24:44Speaker 1: even though he never saw Gretzky play? No, he can't. Okay.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Because he never saw him play. I mean, but if
- 24:52Speaker 1: you hold on a second, if you were born after
- 24:56Speaker 1: Michael Jordan retired and you're a Chicago Bulls fan. And
- 25:00Speaker 1: all you've heard growing up in that city is Michael
- 25:02Speaker 1: Jordan this, Michael Jordan that. He was the greatest. And
- 25:05Speaker 1: the Bulls have been lousy since Jordan retired. Why can't
- 25:08Speaker 1: Michael Jordan be your favorite Bull of all time?
- 25:11Speaker 3: You could have him as the best player of all time.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You could have him as the best Bull of all time.
- 25:17Speaker 3: But he can't be your favorite. You don't know the
- 25:20Speaker 3: hurt when he left to play baseball and the joy
- 25:27Speaker 3: of having him come back.
- 25:28Speaker 1: You didn't have that. You can't have that be your thing.
- 25:31Speaker 1: All right.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he could be the greatest. But no, Joe Kim
- 25:36Speaker 2: Noah is everybody's favorite ball. Derek Rose.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Well, someone brought up Derek Rose yesterday. He won an MVP.
- 25:45Speaker 1: So I guess I don't know. Maybe. I understand what
- 25:47Speaker 1: you're saying. All right, let's get to the NFL here, Bear.
- 25:50Speaker 1: It kicks off in six days. Very excited. What are
- 25:53Speaker 1: you thinking here?
- 25:54Speaker 2: Giants under seven and a half wins is certainly something
- 25:57Speaker 2: that's there.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Really?
- 25:58Speaker 2: I think... Yeah, I'm not high on the Giants at all.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I think it's so bizarre. Like, oh, OBJ is back.
- 26:09Speaker 2: And the fact that OBJ might be your number two
- 26:12Speaker 2: or number three wide receiver, that's a problem. It is. Like,
- 26:16Speaker 2: they're wide receivers not being fully healthy. I was just
- 26:19Speaker 2: watching TV here before, and Skadaboo wasn't sure he really
- 26:24Speaker 2: wanted to play again. Jackson Dart lives in the tent.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:28Speaker 2: I know they had a great draft, but they're not
- 26:31Speaker 2: as good as the Eagles in that division. They're not
- 26:34Speaker 2: as good as the Cowboys. They're closer to the Commanders
- 26:36Speaker 2: than they are. And you look at the late season schedule,
- 26:40Speaker 2: I don't know how they're getting to eight wins.
- 26:43Speaker 1: But, Bear, did you see that catch in 2014? I mean,
- 26:46Speaker 1: come on. One moment Hall of Fame. What else are
- 26:52Speaker 1: you looking at for the season here?
- 26:54Speaker 2: I bet the Ravens to win the Super Bowl. I
- 26:57Speaker 2: think people are kind of– people are sleeping, I think,
- 27:00Speaker 2: a little bit on the Ravens this year.
- 27:01Speaker 1: So, wait, when did you put this in, Bear?
- 27:03Speaker 2: The hand is up.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Yes, when did you put this in?
- 27:08Speaker 2: When did I put it in?
- 27:09Speaker 1: Yes, what were the odds when you put it in?
- 27:11Speaker 2: Oh, 12-1.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:14Speaker 2: 12-1. I don't know what they are now.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I think people are like– look, people high on the
- 27:21Speaker 2: Bengals in that division. Nobody else, I think, is any
- 27:25Speaker 2: good in this. Steelers stink. brands are terrible but i
- 27:30Speaker 2: think people because harbaugh's gone it's a first year head
- 27:34Speaker 2: coach i think people view that as a negative yeah
- 27:37Speaker 2: what i've heard in camp this year like like the
- 27:40Speaker 2: attention to detail and it's kind of like a re-motivated
- 27:45Speaker 2: refresh like lamar i'm told is like having fun again
- 27:49Speaker 2: for the first time in a couple of years because
- 27:51Speaker 2: apparently it wasn't great the last I think after the
- 27:55Speaker 2: year they had last year and all the questions about
- 27:57Speaker 2: playoff Lamar, I think the Ravens are going to be
- 28:00Speaker 2: pretty good. And I know there are some, I don't
- 28:04Speaker 2: know if it's up in every state. You can bet
- 28:07Speaker 2: who will the last undefeated team be. I bet this
- 28:12Speaker 2: as well for the Ravens. I forget. It might have
- 28:15Speaker 2: been 17-1 maybe. I can't recall what it was. So
- 28:20Speaker 2: forgive me if I gave the wrong info. But if
- 28:22Speaker 2: you look at the Ravens' schedule, I believe week three
- 28:25Speaker 2: they have the Cowboys. But all other six games that
- 28:29Speaker 2: they have are super winnable. So if you can get
- 28:32Speaker 2: to week three, they beat the Cowboys, and then you're
- 28:36Speaker 2: looking at 7-0 might be doable. But I am high
- 28:40Speaker 2: on the Ravens this year. It's a little bit of
- 28:43Speaker 2: a bet against the Bengals and the buzz and the
- 28:45Speaker 2: steam that the Bengals have. But I think the Ravens
- 28:49Speaker 2: are poised for a big season.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Bear, what else are you looking at here?
- 28:53Speaker 2: If you're looking for a real super ridiculous long shot
- 28:58Speaker 2: in the rookie of the year markets, R. Mason Thomas
- 29:01Speaker 2: from the Kansas City Chiefs is a rookie gen from Oklahoma.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Really disruptive pass rusher. He's getting a lot of buzz.
- 29:10Speaker 2: He was 75-1. I don't know what he is now.
- 29:13Speaker 2: It's probably considerably lower, but he might be worth it
- 29:18Speaker 2: because in that Kansas City defense, someone is going to
- 29:22Speaker 2: have to He could be the beneficiary of all the
- 29:26Speaker 2: attention Chris Jones and some others are getting. Offensive side
- 29:30Speaker 2: of the ball, Javante Williams is someone running back from
- 29:35Speaker 2: Denver that I think is worth a play. I believe
- 29:38Speaker 2: it was 55-1 when I bet him.
- 29:42Speaker 1: He's a good player.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I mentioned the Cowboys before with the Giants. I bet
- 29:46Speaker 2: the Cowboys to win the division.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Wow.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I hate the fact that I'm doing that. I hate
- 29:52Speaker 2: the fact that I'm buying into that. I usually laugh
- 29:55Speaker 2: when I hear about– Are the Cowboys a Super Bowl contender? Again,
- 30:00Speaker 2: Dak Prescott, is he the best court? But it's hard
- 30:04Speaker 2: to argue that they don't have a ton of talent
- 30:09Speaker 2: on the offensive side of the ball. And they made
- 30:12Speaker 2: massive improvements on the defensive side, whether it was free agency, trades, draft.
- 30:19Speaker 2: I think they are going to be light years better
- 30:21Speaker 2: than they were last year. And if they can stay healthy, like,
- 30:25Speaker 2: Cowboys stock, Brian Schottenheimer, coach of the year, like 18-1, 16-1.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Cowboys to win the division at like plus 205. All
- 30:33Speaker 2: of those things, I think, make a ton. Schotty is,
- 30:37Speaker 2: it's weird. We always talk about these coaches who like
- 30:41Speaker 2: when they become, go from coordinator to head coach and
- 30:44Speaker 2: it never pans out. Schotty is like the opposite of that.
- 30:48Speaker 2: He's a much better head coach than he was coordinator.
- 30:52Speaker 2: And that's rare. So, like, he wasn't– every now and
- 30:56Speaker 2: then he'd take a couple of shots at him as
- 30:58Speaker 2: coordinator and maybe he'll look and whatever. But as a
- 31:01Speaker 2: head coach, he's much better as a head coach. I'm
- 31:06Speaker 2: a lot higher on the Cowboys, I think, than I've
- 31:09Speaker 2: ever been and probably than I ever wanted to be.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Shottie's done a good job, and that division is interesting
- 31:14Speaker 1: from this standpoint. Dallas has stability. I can't believe I'm
- 31:17Speaker 1: saying it, but they have some stability there. And when
- 31:20Speaker 1: you compare it to the rest of the division, Giants,
- 31:23Speaker 1: new head coach, questions still about Jackson, Darb, Philadelphia, they
- 31:27Speaker 1: lose A.J. Brown, and we're constantly questioning Nick Sirianni. But
- 31:31Speaker 1: it's going to be interesting to see how the Eagles
- 31:33Speaker 1: look without A.J. Brown. And, of course, you have the
- 31:35Speaker 1: Commanders with Jaden Daniels coming back from an injury. And
- 31:38Speaker 1: so why not the Cowboys? I actually like that pick.
- 31:40Speaker 1: I love that pick. It's my favorite pick of all
- 31:42Speaker 1: the picks you've given us here. Yes.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate that.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I got it.
- 31:46Speaker 2: I got one more for you.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Okay.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Remember this time last year, we're sitting here. Is Matthew
- 31:53Speaker 2: Stafford ever going to play again? How's Matthew Stafford's back?
- 31:56Speaker 2: Is he ever going to be healthy? Who will the
- 31:59Speaker 2: Rams quarterback be? It's no way Matthew Stafford's going to play.
- 32:02Speaker 2: And then he went out, had an MVP season, stayed healthy.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Now we're just talking about, Like, oh, it's a foregone conclusion. Oh,
- 32:11Speaker 2: he's fine. There's no worry about it. He played last year.
- 32:14Speaker 2: He'll be okay. When you're looking at these player props,
- 32:19Speaker 2: more things can go wrong than can go right. I
- 32:22Speaker 2: bet Stafford under 38, 99 and a half passing yards.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Adams is a year older. Who knows if Pook is
- 32:30Speaker 2: going to be suspended or if he can stay healthy.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Can Stafford stay? We're all assuming. that this is going
- 32:37Speaker 2: to go swimmingly this year in L.A. And we hope
- 32:40Speaker 2: it does. We'd love to see everything go well and
- 32:44Speaker 2: him have a great year like the talent. But who's
- 32:48Speaker 2: to say it doesn't get nicked up? Who's to say,
- 32:50Speaker 2: in fact, it doesn't flare up? Who's to say his finger,
- 32:54Speaker 2: he had hand problems in the past? Under 38, 99.5
- 32:57Speaker 2: passing yards on Stafford.
- 33:00Speaker 1: All right. I like it, Mikey. I like that. I
- 33:02Speaker 1: like it. The NFL ones. I love, I mean, I'm
- 33:04Speaker 1: not saying I don't love the college ones, but I
- 33:06Speaker 1: love the Cowboys. And I love that Stafford bet right there.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Who is to say bear who, huh?
- 33:13Speaker 2: In that division as well. Like they're just being anointed.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Everyone's forgetting about the Seahawks. Seahawks won the damn Superbowl
- 33:21Speaker 2: last year. And it's like, they're like total afterthought.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Yes. How do you feel about this bet? Taking Seattle
- 33:27Speaker 1: to not make the playoffs?
- 33:31Speaker 2: I don't hate taking Seattle to miss the playoff or
- 33:36Speaker 2: the Rams to miss the playoffs. Look at the Rams'
- 33:38Speaker 2: first five games.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Other than the one game, I think they have the
- 33:46Speaker 2: Giants in the first five games. There are four losable
- 33:49Speaker 2: games in the first five games. If you look at
- 33:51Speaker 2: a Rams season win total under, Rams to miss the playoff,
- 33:55Speaker 2: all of those. I kind of equated this with college
- 33:58Speaker 2: football as well. I think we talked about last week,
- 34:01Speaker 2: someone that we don't expect to miss the, to miss
- 34:04Speaker 2: the playoff is going to miss the play. And it's
- 34:07Speaker 2: going to happen that way in the NFL as well.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Someone who think is bulletproof and great and a Superbowl contender,
- 34:15Speaker 2: something is going to happen where they're going to hit,
- 34:17Speaker 2: whether it's the Rams, whether it's the Seahawks, whether it's
- 34:20Speaker 2: the bills, whether it's the Bengals, someone is going to
- 34:23Speaker 2: hit a rough patch and they're going to be sitting
- 34:26Speaker 2: there nine and eight and hoping that the tie breaks
- 34:28Speaker 2: fall their way. at the end of the season.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Of course, it happens every year. The Rams, just quickly here.
- 34:33Speaker 1: San Francisco, that game's in Australia, neutral field. Then they're
- 34:37Speaker 1: home with the Giants. And this is the, I think
- 34:40Speaker 1: this is the gauntlet you're kind of talking about here.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Three consecutive weeks. At Denver, at Philadelphia, home with Buffalo. Stuff. Yeah.
- 34:49Speaker 1: All right, Bear. We appreciate it, as always. Bears, Bets,
- 34:53Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcast, if you want all those
- 34:55Speaker 1: picks for the upcoming week and the upcoming season. Enjoy Bloomington, Indiana.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I don't know how you can, but enjoy it. Do
- 35:02Speaker 1: your best. Hang in there.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Actually, good, good, good, good little town.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Good little town.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Good little college town. Yeah, I love a good little
- 35:10Speaker 1: college town. Right. Walk around all day. Ask people and
- 35:14Speaker 1: report back to us on Monday if they would rather
- 35:17Speaker 1: win a basketball championship or a football championship this season.
- 35:22Speaker 1: We appreciate you doing this. It is time for this
- 35:24Speaker 1: week's edition of Still You Got. All lines are courtesy
- 35:27Speaker 1: of our friends over at FanDuel and the FanDuel Sportsbook.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Very exciting. First edition of Still You Got. First week
- 35:34Speaker 1: of college football. Week one. I know we had week
- 35:36Speaker 1: zero last week, but college football starts this weekend. Let's
- 35:39Speaker 1: get to the games. Tonight's game, Miami, minus 23 and
- 35:43Speaker 1: a half at Stanford. It's a big number. Stanford has
- 35:46Speaker 1: all the ingredients to be a good college football program.
- 35:48Speaker 1: They're lacking one. good players. Miami, they have great players.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Minus 23 and a half. I don't like giving up
- 35:55Speaker 1: this many points on the road, but Miami's that good
- 35:58Speaker 1: and Stanford is that bad. Miami wins the game by
- 36:00Speaker 1: 31 points. They cover the spread on the road. James Madison,
- 36:05Speaker 1: minus six and a half. They're taking on Liberty. Buy
- 36:08Speaker 1: it down to six. James Madison, they win, they cover,
- 36:12Speaker 1: they win by 13 points at home. Penn State, they
- 36:15Speaker 1: lose James Franklin. Addition by subtraction. That means Penn State's
- 36:20Speaker 1: going to be good. And I'm sorry to whomever got
- 36:22Speaker 1: James Franklin. I think it was Virginia Tech. You're not
- 36:25Speaker 1: going to be that good. But Penn State, they're good.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I like Matt Campbell. I like this team. Sneaky good team.
- 36:30Speaker 1: They're minus 24 at home, taking on Marshall. I think
- 36:33Speaker 1: Penn State wins, and they cover the spread. Penn State
- 36:37Speaker 1: by 31 points at home. The big game, Saturday night, Clemson, LSU, Dabo, Lane,
- 36:45Speaker 1: LSU favored by 10 and a half. I think LSU
- 36:48Speaker 1: wins the game. I think Clemson keeps it close. Buy
- 36:50Speaker 1: it up to 11. LSU wins. Clemson covers. The Tigers
- 36:55Speaker 1: win by five points at home. Northwestern, a sneaky good
- 36:59Speaker 1: team out of the Big Ten, I think, this year.
- 37:01Speaker 1: That's right. I said it. Northwestern. Had I said it
- 37:05Speaker 1: about Indiana a couple of years ago, you would have
- 37:07Speaker 1: laughed at me. I'm saying about Northwestern right now, they're
- 37:10Speaker 1: minus 12 and a half, excuse me, taking on South
- 37:13Speaker 1: Dakota State. Northwestern wins. They cover the Wildcats with Chip
- 37:18Speaker 1: Kelly by 17 points over South Dakota State. And finally,
- 37:23Speaker 1: and this is why college football starts this weekend, Mikey,
- 37:26Speaker 1: it's Hawaii. They're at home. Midnight Eastern. They're taking on UNLV.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Dan Mullen and his Elvis impersonator. Hawaii, plus three and
- 37:36Speaker 1: a half, taking on UNLV at home. I like Hawaii
- 37:40Speaker 1: to win the game outright. Buy it up to four.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I don't know why you would do that. I like
- 37:44Speaker 1: Hawaii to win the game and win it outright, but
- 37:46Speaker 1: still buy it up to four. Hawaii wins by three
- 37:49Speaker 1: points at home over UNLV. Those are the picks, everyone.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Enjoy week one. And good luck.
