Latest / Slander & Slay / Week 2 Recap: Contenders, Chaos & Taylor's New Songs
Transcript
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: This is Slander and Slay.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I am Tracy Sandler, joined by the lovely Nikki Kay.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: And Nikki, we are we're going into week three of the season, which is weird.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: So so weird.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: But as big of news as that is, and as much as happened in the world of football in the last two weeks, which is a lot, there is bigger news on the horizon, Nikki.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Would you like to pair with our little?
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: I woke up, I woke up to the best news drop that one can ask for on a fall Wednesday morning today.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: And that is that the mother, the one and only, Taylor Swift, is gifting us with four new songs encore, if you will.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: And we don't have to wait, we don't have to wait a month for it.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: It's coming Friday.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: It's coming Friday.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: It's very exciting.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I was a huge fan of Life of a Showgirl.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I really like and really like the album.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So I'm very excited to hear these next four new songs.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Here's a question that I'm gonna pose that you don't have the answer to, but I'm posing the question Do we think there's a chance that when she releases this on Friday, she releases pictures of her in her wedding dress?
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's a good one.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: I didn't even see coming.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: You know, I just now thought of it.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: So it's interesting.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: I think they're yeah, because a lot of people are thinking we're never gonna get pictures, but I I doubt that.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: I we will get a photo of her in a wedding.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: I and it seems like knowing how she loves to hype up these drops or you know, announcements as they come, I don't know why she would waste two bullets in one moment, right?
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Like give us give us the the wedding photos when you know we need something to live for, right?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And so No, I'm just wondering if one of the songs is about the wedding.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Is that I'm very curious.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: I time will tell, but I'm I'm putting it down as a possibility.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: I really did like Life of a Showgirl too, and I think you and I are both very bubble bubbly pop kind of type of people.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: And that's that album lent itself to that energy, you know.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: And then you know, there's a certain category of Swifties who like the, you know, um really angsty kind of, you know, very poetically deep uh lyrics of albums like folklore and evermore.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: But I give me all the opalite and all the, you know, cancelled and wood.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: I I love it all.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I think it was such a good album.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, there was a time where it was the only thing I was listening to nonstop all the time.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Now it's Olivia Rodrigo's new album with some other things sprinkled in, but there was a time it was uh basically the only thing.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: And Fate of Ophelia is like maybe my favorite.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: It's one of my favorite songs, at least one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: So I'm very, very excited for these four new songs.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: So that's the big news on Friday.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And coming off the Chiefs win the other night when uh Ty, I was about to call him, I was about to call him Travis Swift, Travis Kelsey, but like he'd kind of just Travis Yeah, but like honestly, I think honestly would he would say yeah, he's Travis 100 when he scored and she did the that's my husband with the ring.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I just think that was so great, and um now we can miss it.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: So I find Taylor to be untouchable.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: At first, I was like, God, that seems like really thought out, right?
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Like she had that ready to pull out, like that's my husband's the name of one of those songs.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because because it's to me, I was like, that's not a guttural like reaction, you know, where you're just so stoked.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: You you really think about that one, and so part of me I was like, ugh, but then the other part of me is like, that's what makes Taylor great is thinking about everything, and you know, she's been this girl writing songs since she was 14 years old, right?
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: And like dreaming about she's on the bleachers and you know, tearing on the guy in the on the field, and like, so yeah, let her have that moment.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: And I also don't know that it's not organic because I feel like that is something that people say.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's something I've said when something like Matri is half everybody's like oh yes, that's my boyfriend, or that's my oh, that's my mom, that's my sister.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: What I I don't know that it's I don't know.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I'm fair I don't know that we'll ever know, to be honest with you, but I I don't know.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: It could be very thought out.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: What I will be interesting to see if there's a name one of the songs is called That's My Husband, because if it is we got the four tracks, though.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: We got yes, it's down behind my sinkiness.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: Patient Zero Pink Clouding, which I think I'm gonna love because we we love everything pink, right?
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Cleveland exclamation point and Babylon.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: But maybe we do get a that's my husband lyric in one of those.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Cleveland, well, I he they're from Cleveland.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: I am not a big fan of the city of Cleveland, no offense to our listeners in Cleveland because you guys are amazing and I know that that's true.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Just like not my favorite city in the world, but I understand that they are from Cleveland, so but clean and Cleveland with the exclamation part point is because that they are from there and not because she just really, really loves Cleveland.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: No, maybe she does.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: No, it's gotta be definitely gotta be a Cleveland uh tie to the hometown.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Yes, I think so for sure.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Well, so excited about that for Friday.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Yay! Big, big yes to the Slifties over here at Slander and Slay.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: And then next week we can totally review the four tracks.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Love that.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: It will be absolutely amazing.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: So that's super fun.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: And then you on Monday night were at the Rams comeback story.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: I don't want to overdramatize it, but they would they needed a comeback decisive statement win, and they got it at SoFi Monday night against the Giants.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Set the scene.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: What was the vibe like?
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Because you know, Rams get a lot of flack that they're they don't really have real fans and all of that.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Like, what was it, SoFi on Monday?
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Well, it it was okay.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: So, first of all, going into the game, Aaron Donald's return, but no Puka Nakua.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and also my fantasy team.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know me too.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: I I was like, Oh, he's gonna play.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: We're fine.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: I totally fought that's you.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: We sure weren't fine.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: No, and you know, on one of my teams, this is another aside that we'll say, but I have Caleb and Jackson as my quarterback.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: So oh wow, okay.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: So, so um, but anyways, uh the the scene in SoFi was, you know, there's a buzz around Monday night football.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Of course, and I think the biggest thing was the Rams were so uncharacteristically uh uh bad in their season debut that it was kind of like a hold your breath, what's gonna happen.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Now, obviously, Jackson Dark goes down on the Giants opening drive.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: Um, and you never ever ever want to see that.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: But that that storyline aside, the Rams did not skip a beat.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Their offense kind of came back even without Puka.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Devontae Adams.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: The second coming of Devontae Adams.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Video game mode, Devontae prime time Tay.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, eight catches for 195 yards, two touchdowns, and then Stafford going for four touchdowns himself.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: So um it's like the Rams are.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: I know we'll get into our tiers later, but they're very they're back.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: They're back.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: I did, I did not like the yellow uniforms though.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know what that was.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: So ugly.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Michigan wore uniforms like that.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: We're gonna burn because of habit.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: But that they're so ugly, and I just don't, and the thing that's funny to me is the amount of people that have to see that and be like, yes, yes, that nobody, nobody at all was like, you know what, they kind of look like mustard, and it's giving it's giving Savannah Banana Ramas, it's exactly what it's giving.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: It's giving Savannah Banana Rammers.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Now, listen, had they broken into song and dance mid-game, all in on those.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: I might actually be here for that.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: That would be incredible.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Like, I'd be all in on that.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: But those uniforms were so unattractive.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: I hope they never wear them again.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Not because I'm a Rams fan, but because I don't want to have to look at them ever.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Tracy, one might argue that at the end of the day, football is just a bunch of men putting on matching outfits and tights and doing coordinated production together.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, one would argue correctly if that was the case.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Why not add in a song?
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: No, I'm just saying, like, it's there.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Maybe a little jazz square.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Who needs an out route when you can add in a jazz square?
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: I'm all in on this.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, I want to say we're we're early into the show, but I think we have come up with some stellar ideas for a variety of things.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And this is one of them because it is men in tights all wearing the same outfit and coordinated effort.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Coordinate impressions.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we'll send that to the suggestion box.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm not sure.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, also, side note, I did see um Jackson Dart's girlfriend, Marissa Ayers, who we are a big fan of that parry.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, that is looked incredible, wearing all red matching outfit.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I saw it.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Actually, I saw it on social media, and then I saw Cam Scattaboo get in the family photo with Lisa and Jack and his parents.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Um the outfit was great.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: It was I talked to her briefly while she was taking photos, and it was just like she was meant for the moment in LA.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: She knew exactly the assignment.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Well, as long as we're talking about Jackson and the moment, so I feel like I'm I'm very sorry for Jackson Dark that he's her because I think there's you don't wish that on anybody ever.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I'm also very sorry for us that we're not going to be getting Marissa Ayers fits every single week now.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Uh, maybe we'll get some of them, you know, he's he's on the sidelines.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: But it was a very rough weekend for quarterbacks.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: And I will start with, and we can get into the nitty-gritty, but I'll start with Caleb Williams goes down.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: It ends up being a right hamstring strain.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: And he and you can hear him scream on TV.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: People are making fun of him and the memes.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: But let me tell you something.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: You go down with that kind of hamstring strain in a game, that means you don't know what it is.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's the other one.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: And I remember a few years ago, Debo Samuel went down and he was carted off, towel over his head, crying.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: He thought, he's like, I thought it was done, and it turned out to not be that big a deal, but he you don't know.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: So I think in fairness to Caleb, we should give him a break.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: So that's that one.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Then Jaden Daniels of the Commanders dislocates his left elbow.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Same left elbow he dislocated last year, missed four games, came back, and then input it again.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: And then Jackson Dart on Monday night, who's out.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: I think the last thing I saw was he's out for the regular season for sure.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: That's so I actually have I want to get into a little bit of like and then the Giants do, but well, yeah, and you already add on, you know, Sam Darnold being out, right?
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Um, you add on what's going on with Atlanta and uh Michael Penix Jr.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: I have that six teams are already on backup quarterbacks through week two, and 38 quarterbacks have played, have thrown five or more passes through the opening two weeks this season, which is the most since 2021.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: So it's not unprecedented, but it's a lot of marquee names.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: But it but twenty in 2021, I will give the caveat that we were coming off the COVID season, right?
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: And things were still not like 100%.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: So you could kind of it maybe that was a unicorn season two.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: So I think it's very, very strange.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the answer is.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: It's it is a problem for the NFL because it it hurts the product, and it's like, what do they do?
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: It's just, I don't know.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: So Caleb Williams, I guess.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Well, Chicago's really got an issue this week because Caleb Williams has the hamstring issue.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Their backup, Tyler Baggett.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Am I saying it right?
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: I think Badgett.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: I think it's Badgett, actually.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean we'll go with that.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: I'm on well, don't worry about it.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: The other day I was talking about him and I referred to the Saints quarterback as him.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: And that's not true.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: So my mental block on the Shuck.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Tyler Shuck.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I was so I was off all the way around.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: He's a lot of Tyler's, but he is a Tyler.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: So I have that going for me.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: I but again, yesterday I I called him the Saints quarterback.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: So honestly, we're off to we're we're making progress here.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: He's in the concussion protocol, and so it looks like Case Case Keenum is QB3 and he could very well start.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: My first reaction to hearing that was Case Keenum is still in the league?
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: That is my number one reaction.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: I'm like, what are we doing?
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: But good for Case Keenum, first of all.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Like if he's still in this league making money, playing.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know, Ben Johnson, I think said today or on Wednesday that he doesn't know what's gonna happen, but he knows Case Keenum is gonna practice today.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: So I mean, that one, that one I think has the best chance of the three things we just talked about, three teams we just talked about, of working itself out sooner rather than later.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Then you have Jaden Daniels, which I don't know.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: I I haven't really seen an update on that as of yet, unless I've somehow missed it.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: There's been so much on Jackson Dart, um, but and so many memes on Caleb that it's possible I missed, but I haven't seen an update there.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: So I don't know what happens there, but in New York, I mean, we saw Jameis Winston on Monday night, and I think Jameis Winston is really entertaining and a really good commentator, and all, but I think his quarterbacking, successful quarterbacking days, and I guess you could argue how successful was he, but successful-ish quarterbacking days are behind him.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: Listen, we don't need to shy away from this.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Jameis Winston, his value is in the vibes.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: He is an invaluable asset in that quarterback room.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: But when you ask how his offseason prep to be a QB1 looks like, and you look at him uh being a personality for Fox Sports during the World Cup, not saying that you can't do both, but I don't think, I don't think, I mean, Jameis does believe, and rightfully so.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: You have to have that self-belief that you can be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: But I I don't know if um this this will be the the replacement that these hopeful Giants uh need.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: But you got obviously you you need Jameis in any capacity you can get him, but maybe not not as QB1.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: Well, and that's brings me to a another interesting question because now there's a lot of conversation this week.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Like, do the Giants trade for a quarterback?
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: I know Mac Jones is or sign a free Asian quarterback.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Mac Jones is a name that got passed around.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: If I'm the 49ers and I look at what's happening at quarterbacks around the league, I'm not trading Mac Jones.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, unless they give them something so like a package that's so insane, I'm not trading Mac Jones.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: You have someone who last year when Brock got hurt came in and kept them in the season.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Him and Christian McCaffrey kept them in the season, got them to a place where they could compete to to the for the playoffs.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: And so unless it's like something amazing, I don't know that I would trade Mac Jones.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: There's there's the JJ McCarthy potential.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Um, he goes back to a hard bah, not his hard ball, but a hard bah.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: There's some you know something to be said there.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: And I think Minnesota is not really does not have any plans for him in the future.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: So if if I think if Minnesota is now in a position where they could get something good for JJ McCarthy, because if you have a team like the Giants that wants to contend on some level and feels like they need obviously another quarterback, now you may get he may have value that he didn't previously have uh in when roster cut downs are happening.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: Um that I saw one, did they sign Jimmy Garoppolo?
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's a lot of options, but they got it.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: One of the options is gonna have to come through because the Jameis Winston experience is going to lead to a very disappointing season in New York.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: The the impetus is on for New York to make a move, especially like after all the hope and excitement you saw in week one.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: So um, and Jaden Daniels, I just checked, is ruled out for week three.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: That I knew that I just wasn't sure if there was any like long-term update.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: But okay, but I guess we'll we'll see what but it's interesting because now, very early in the season, there is a market for quarterbacks real quickly, and it's not great, and it's not just quarterbacks.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, AJ Brown is on IR, like right, Jake Tongis isn't a name a lot of people know outside of San Francisco, but he was an important part of the 49ers offense.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: They've put a whole bunch.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, not that this surprised anybody, they've put a whole bunch of people on IR.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: The Chargers are dropping like flies, and we will get to them in a minute.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: So well, and I saw one argument too.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: It's like the Rams using their their pick on Ty Simpson when it's like you see Puka go down, and that wide receiver depth is looking pretty thin already.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: That's another very Even though Devontae Adams might just wind back the clock, but I you know, like it's it is it does feel very thin.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: It does.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Oh, it feels it definitely feels very thin.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: I I don't, yeah, and the Niners Demarcus Robinson's out, and they just signed Brandon Cliff to their practice squad because they're also managing Mike Evans this week.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: It's just it's a lot of injuries very early.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the NFL does about it.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: I don't know what can be done about it, but these are pretty big names, star power injuries, and these are these are names that people turn the TV on for.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: So that's where I think the NFL has to figure out, and again, I don't know what they do, but figure out kind of is there something going on?
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Is there something that could be done differently because it does dilute the product?
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: So we shall see.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Um, so there's that.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: But with that in mind, or with that being said, week one, we had different tiers of teams and we fully did our week one overreactions.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Um, and now we are into week two.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: And so I'm gonna put on put on my glasses for these, Nikki.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Yes, and I Trace, I love you set the table is like, okay, we had our overreactions in week one, but what was the theme of week two for you?
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Injuries?
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Uh no, I think the theme of injuries, but I think also the theme of week two is a little bit don't overreact to week one.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, there are teams that are up have an SOS that I thought would bounce back in week two, but I this is kind of what I have found on overreactions, and I would love your opinion on this.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: I think when you look at certain teams and you look at them in week one and you say they look legit, like real, the really good teams, we can get to those tiers.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think you overreact, at least it's my opinion, on their legitimacy.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: I think where we overreact is on a team that we expected to be terrible and had like a big week one win, and we're like, maybe they're maybe they're amazing.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: And then also on teams that are have high expectations and played really poorly in week one, a la the Rams.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: That's where I think we overreact.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: But I think week two was it was a bounce back week, but it also were so early in the season, but it kind of made the difference between like the bounce backers and then the people that were like, oh my God.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: And I will I want to give one caveat here when you look at the first month or so of the season.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: It's like you gotta just kind of hang on and hang in.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: And I covered two 49ers teams that went three and four and three and five.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: One of those teams went to the NSC championship game, one of those teams went to the Super Bowl.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: So you just kind of got to hang in the first month or so of the season.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: But there are teams that we expect to be contenders that look like they're not gonna hang into anything.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: So that's my feeling on that.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: I don't know that that was in general a real specific theme for you, but that was the theme.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: What was your theme of week two?
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: No, I just think that I like that like we had the bold sweeping, like, oh my god, could the Rams actually not be good this season?
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: And then it's like, you know, it's like the week two is all about feels like week one's kind of a preseason game, honestly.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: It well, I think it is.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: And I'm that's where I wonder if that's something the NFL can do differently.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Because you wanna you want your guys to get reps, you don't want your guys to get hurt.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: So there's so much of starters not playing in the preseason, which I totally agree with.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: Is there a way to do something with the preseason?
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Is there is there a way to do something in joint practices where it, you know, it gives guys an opportunity?
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, there probably is not, but to play well, it's like the guys, the main, the big names don't play in the preseason, then they get hurt week one, and then it's like, you know, what is the balance?
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Do you get hurt in the preseason?
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Do you put that more?
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I I I don't know either.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: And I don't, I'm like, I was thinking the other day, and this is not it.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: But like, do we just have them play flag football in the preseason?
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Like, is that how we have a baby?
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Like, is there like is this like a capture the flag situation?
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know, but there's there's gotta be something, and I think the NFL has to figure it out again.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: I'm glad it's not my job, it's about my pay grade, but it is it is problematic.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: But that in mind, let's go to our tiers because I think this is kind of a fun thing that we can do every week and kind of and we can come up with different categories and and all of that.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: So we'll have our little segment.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: We'll call them our NFL tiers.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: This is our NFL tiers segment.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I'm gonna start, we're gonna start with legitimately contenders.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: I will tell you mine, and I would like to hear yours.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: All right, if you tell you you and I might have the same one, but I'll go, I'll go fringe legitimate.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: We probably I have like four.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: I was just gonna like there were like four that have stood out to you.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: I think the 49ers, the Seahawks, the Bills, and um maybe the Eagles.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: No, I don't know if I would say the Eagles.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: No, I don't I wouldn't, I mean I think just the 49ers, Seahawks, and Bills to me it's early, it's two weeks, but what we've seen from them.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: They've just been consistent.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: Now we say that and watch the Bills lose the Chargers on Sunday night, but I think they've just been they've been consistent.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: So those are the three that have stood out to me.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm gonna go a little hot take-ish on you and uh throw in the mix.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Like, let's welcome the Kansas City Chiefs back to the other.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, I forgot about the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: I knew I had a fourth one in there.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Of course the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: And the Rams, the Rams have returned to form.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: So I put them.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: I would put them in their back.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: I don't I just need to see more than one week of consistency.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: But I think the Rams are gonna be high.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna I'm gonna go hot take for hot take uh on that.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: You know, and they could arguably fall in our next category, but since you named my three for the sake of conversation, I think uh let's add the Chiefs.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: It was so fun watching Patrick.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: I'm so glad you said the Chiefs too, because I knew I had a fourth one and I just I could not remember.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad that you said the Chiefs because the Chiefs are very much contenders and very much back.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: I don't mean back from week one to week two, but back from last season to this season.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: They are they are the Chiefs.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, Kenneth Murray has just been like I sorry, Kenneth Walker.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Who's Kenneth Murray?
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Where am I getting it?
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: That's my me thinking Kyler Murray, I don't know.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Kenneth Walker, yes, K9.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, the to think that the Chiefs haven't had a thousand-yard back since 2020, and like, you know, it just it just changes the whole dynamism of what they can do on offense, the creativity, and then you know, the the young guys they drafted on defense, I feel like are coming in and making an immediate impact.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: So um, yeah, I'm I'm all in.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh, I think they they're they're fun.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: And I and Kelsey looks better.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Kelsey looks better than he did last season.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: He do you mean is that a Taylor Swift's husband?
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Is that a general?
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, sorry.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: I mean uh Travis Swift.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Okay, oh yeah, yeah.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: He looked great.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Really good.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: It was really fun to watch him the other night.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he was awesome.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: All right, we have our might just be backs.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, I I'm gonna go with if we're I don't know how many we're picking on each one, but I'll just go with the Denver Broncos.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: They look okay, they look a lot better.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: I think it was a slow start, and then they have that Riley Moss interception, which really just changed the entire game.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Not just on defense, it changed everything on offense.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: It looked like they started to gel.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: And I'm not saying, I think, you know, the Broncos under Sean Payton have been a little bit of slow starters, but I think that we can the performance can say, all right, they are back.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying that they're gonna like they have a very tough schedule ahead of them, but so I'm not saying they're gonna go win the next few weeks, but they definitely looked more like the Broncos people expect them to be.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: And this is so weird of me, but like I kind of it's kind of how you feel about the Rams, and maybe we put the Rams and I on it, I know Brock Purdy has looked amazing.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: I know the 49ers have looked so dominant 2-0, and you know, obviously coming off a dolphins win.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: But yeah, which yeah, what when I say might just be back, it's more like because I feel like holding my breath around the fragility of that team, you know, just knowing how many of which on the 49ers?
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: 49ers, yes.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: It's it's more like I'm I'm afraid the injuries are gonna come, you know.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Well, so when I put them when I'm thinking of this one's I'm thinking from week one to week two.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Got you.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: I I was thinking like, okay, got it, got it, got it.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Because I was thinking of like the week ones, the people that we were like, oh my god, we thought they were gonna be good and they're terrible.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: And though those kind of might just be back.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Um the 49ers, I think, you know, last year they went to the divisional round.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: That's kind of where I think they end up this year.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: It's just it's just such a tough division, but we'll see.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: But it the fragility for sure, yeah.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: And the injuries, but I'm thinking more like in terms of like week one to week two of this.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Listen, this is this is how why we get to discuss.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: And it's you know what it's also open to interpretation because you can say whatever you want.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: You could tell me that you think the Lakers might just be back, and we can talk about that.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: You know, like we this is our show.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: We can talk about whatever we want.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: You know, you know, who's who's never gone.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Actually, I I can't even think of a good.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: I was gonna think of like uh there.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: I feel like there's a pop culture thing where they're like, oh, they never left.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: You know, oh yeah.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Well, I think the Rams would say to you, we never left.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: We just had a bad flight.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we just went to Melbourne, and I think Sean McVay, I loved what he said the other night.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes you have a dumbass coach who makes bad travel flights.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: I think that was funny.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: I think he's one of the best at owning and pointing, like, and and it's genuine, you know, it's not like protecting his guys, he genuinely feels he should be better.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: And I love that.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, I agree with that.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: I absolutely agree with that.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Um, who is your?
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Do you have a might just be back from last week to this week?
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Um, well, I was thinking in general, the the rant uh I was thinking, like, you know, in terms of might actually just be back are the 49ers.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: I actually think right now, and it's very early to talk MVPs, but if I were voting for MVP today, Brock Curdy be Brock between Brock and Josh Allen.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: I think those are your very early, very, very early contenders.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Um, but we'll see.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: All right, we need to see more.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: I am gonna say the Raiders.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: That's mine.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: I think the Raiders, I mean they're 2-0, and maybe they're gonna be better than we think, but I'm not not entirely ready to, you know.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm actually going to say we need to see more from the Texans because I'm so confused.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: Like they're 0-2, they have I have them as SOS for that reason.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, they didn't have, but but I'm confused because Stroud is thrown for 627 yards through two games, which is the third most in the league, but he's only produced two touchdowns through the two games.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: I I don't know what's going on.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: Like they're you know, they're supposed to be atop the AFC.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: So I I'm I'm confused because the quarterback stats are there, the touchdowns aren't.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: So he needs he needs help uh healthy weapons.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Well, and I think CJ Stroud with a healthy Nico Collins is a very is very different than CJ Stroud without a healthy Nico Collins.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Like he's like, that's his security blanket, that is his guy.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: And unfortunately, Nico Collins gets hurt a lot, and so it's become an issue over the years.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: But I think I do think that is a lot of it.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think that's fair.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: I I don't I have them a little bit in SOS because it's just the kind of thing that could snowball, right?
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: You know, that's and that's and speaking of that, I will just move on.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: I'll talk about the chargers.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Like you have a situation with the chargers.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Well, and wait, so set the what set our next category is the SOS.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: SOS.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, SOS.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: So that's where I the Chargers are the most massive SOS because what is going on?
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know, and I don't know how it's gonna get better because they got a tough several weeks.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Now, I there's part of me that feels like we're having this discussion, the Chargers, everyone is freaking out, and they'll like somehow beat the Bills on Sunday in Buffalo.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: But then the other part of me is like they're gonna get destroyed.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: But they're awful, they're they're terrible, and it's Justin Herbert, too.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: It's not like he's carrying.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, so many times in the past it's been like, oh, Herbert put on a superhero cape and carried the team, but he's bad, he's not doing great.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: And I know the new variable is a new OC, but you've had a whole offseason.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: You're it's his seventh year in the league.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Like the, you know, is is Herbert what Herbert is at this point?
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know my feeling on it.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, I think Herbert is what Herbert is.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: I've never totally gotten it, and I think Herbert is what Herbert is.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Who is your SOS?
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: It might be the same as so my SOS is yeah, I definitely had the Chargers in there.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Um, and I also have the Giants because like you said, it's kind of like the gaping holes, like you said, with the Texans.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, the Chargers, we don't know where the hole is, but we know that water's leaking from the boat at all angles.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Holes in the room, and then the yeah, and the Giants, the gaping hole is now at quarterback.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: So I kind of I interpreted what you meant or what the category SOS was to be like, oh shoot, we we got we got a hole.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, oh yeah, that's what SOS is for sure.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: And that that is a big one.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: Um, I almost would say the commanders are SOS because except I don't know that there were that big of expectations.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: I think the feeling of the commanders going into the season was you have a healthy Jaden Daniels, and it'll be different.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: And they have Stefan Diggs and what, but I it's just not happening, and they don't have a healthy Jaden Daniels, so there's that as well.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: So I I like the SOS as we have come up with.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: So that brings me to our last category, which kind of maybe go in the SOS category, maybe not.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: We'll see as time goes on.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: But tank for Arch or Tank for Trinidad.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: And I I mean the Dolphins do seem like the number one contender for that.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, Dolphins are the worst team in the league.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: And then I think you put right behind them is are the Atlanta Falcons.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Like League's worst quarterback room right now.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: What are we doing?
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: So I I think respectfully, yeah, respectfully.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: It is not like with the Chargers, it's not even a respectfully, what are we doing?
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: The Falcons is like, oh my god, come on.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Like, we what what's going on?
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: And we have to see them in fry prime time, like the heck weeks.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know what that's about because that's bananas.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: I don't and what's interesting to me about that is you put whoever put them in prime time for the next three weeks.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't think there was any off-season.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: There was no competition that was like, oh, god, you know, the Falcons might actually pull it together.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: No, no, what you know who else we need to take off prime time who I don't need to see any more of is uh the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: A thousand percent.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: I could not agree with you more.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: I don't need to see them in primetime anymore.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: I don't need to see remember how we talked, of course you remember because it was like a minute ago.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: Talked like a minute ago, and you said how Sean McVay, he really owns it to himself.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: Aaron Rodgis it and points to literally everybody else.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: And that's really it's so just is that that thing you're doing is 100% what he does.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm just so over it.
- 32:30unknown: Yeah.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: And I think what's unfortunate about Aaron Rodgers.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: Well, I think there are a lot of things that are unfortunate about Aaron Rodgers, but just from a career, just from a career perspective, is that like he was considered, and he still will be for the time he was, one of the best quarterbacks to play the game.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: And he's tremendously talented.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: He he was the kind of person who could make magic happen.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: You know, he had he was like the Mahomesian before Mahomes was and all of that.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: And now he's just gonna be remembered really as this Aaron Rodgers.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: And it's just it's too bad for him.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, I knocked a lose sleep over it, but it's too bad.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: And it's like um, you know, when when people become cranky, like, and I don't want to not all people who age become cranky and misers, but no, he just but yeah, he's not even old enough, like right, to be that old man.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's getting yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: He is a 42-year-old curmudgeon, yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: And he's not he's too young to be that old.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say that.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: Too young to be the bar.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: Too young to be that old, and it is just oh, it's just annoying.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: So I agree with you.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: I do not need to see the Pittsburgh Steelers in prime time anymore.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: Thank you very much.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Steelers and Falcons, just look, let's keep them out of the spotlight.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: I know, let's do it.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're unfortunately we're not at the point of the season where we could they can start flexing games.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: I was like, can we bring back flex games like or not bring back, but like start them now?
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we speed those up, accelerate the the flex game situation.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we sadly are, we sadly are not there yet.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: So, what if you look at your game of the weekend?
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: Sonny, last week my game of the weekend was the Vikings and the Bears.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: I guess it was one of them, and it did not turn into be the game of the weekend.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but when the rain didn't help it, Brian Flores really stopped that office.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, you know what?
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Go going back to that really quickly, another perfect overreaction.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: And I think the Bears are very good, and Caleb Williams will probably be healthy, and I think they are gonna be good and score a lot of points every week, but 59 points to three points.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: Like, this is why week to week, it's a week to week league.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: That is the thing, and it's always hard to win in the NFL no matter who you're playing.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: So, anyways, that was just an aside.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: No, that's a great aside because and it also caused me to make a move at quarterback on my fantasy roster, which did not fare well for me in either way.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's okay.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Nobody won't cares about my fantasy team, you know, whatever.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: It's fun to talk about.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, thank you, Tracy.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: I care I care about your fantasy team too.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: I appreciate that.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: You know what's funny about the no one cares about your fantasy team narrative, which I know has become kind of a like a joke over the years.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, everyone talks about their everyone cares because everybody talks that all the time.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: That's all the time.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: True, very true, all the time.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I think that's it.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Someone actually offered me today.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: So I have uh Parker Washington from the Jaguars, who's very good, and he's gonna be like their like you know, he's young, their lead received I think their lead receiver.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: He's very good.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: He did very well for me the other day.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: And someone offered me Terry McLaurin and who's the other guy that they offered me, someone of like a Terry McLaurin level for Parker Washington, and I rejected the trade.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh no, no, this is my guy, this is my young no no, oh no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: He's not Trevor Lawrence drawing to him, so yeah, that's gonna be interesting.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, the Jaguars on my are on my need to see more or less too.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Because I think if Trevor can do well against pressure, like they will their offense will return to form because the way they closed out last season, I was very impressed.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: So I agree with that.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, okay, so gate back to the game of the weekend.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm gonna go with I'm gonna pick a primetime game that does not involve the Falcons.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: I think Broncos and Rams, I think is a good game.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: Even though Bill's Rams is my Super Bowl pick, Broncos Rams still feels very much like it could be in contention.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: So they're kind of like the Bachelorette runner-ups, right?
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: They kind of are like they're kind of they're they're on the bachelor and they didn't get the final rose, but they're gonna star on the bachelorette.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: So they went to hometowns, they went to the hometowns.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: They did.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: The Broncos went to hometowns and the Rams did too.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: They made America fall in love with them, but they were not getting the final roses.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Exactly, but they were not getting the final roses, but that's so that's why I feel like that.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: I think the Chargers and Bills on paper preseason also could have been a game of the weekend, but now I just think it's gonna be a disaster.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, I just want Buffalo to like because at this point, I'm I don't want the Chargers to infuse false hope once again.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: Like I'm I'm done with the inflated, you know.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: Oh wow, look at what they did came in and did against Buffalo.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: So I just want Buffalo to continue rolling.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: Like, I want, yeah.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Which I understand.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: I can't root against Jim Harbaugh.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fair.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: I I have to root for him.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, wait, can I tell you a story really quickly?
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, I was at this coffee shop in Denver.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: I put it on my Instagram story, so it actually is a story, but now I'm gonna tell it to you guys.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: And in this coffee shop, they have the Jim Harbaugh quote to attack each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind in Denver.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: He never played in Denver, he never coached in Denver.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: I was so excited because I felt like no matter where I go, Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines are with me, and that made me so happy.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: You said, Universe, send me a sign.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: Send me a sign, and the sign was here's your Jim Harbaugh quote in The Monk and the Mongoose.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: That's really awesome.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: Um, so my game of the week, I figured since we were pretty NFL heavy, I'd go take us to the college ranks.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: I'm really excited to see uh Oregon at USC on Saturday, 4:30 Eastern.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: Um number 20, Oregon, 12 USC.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Now, my sister's a duck.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: The ducks are 2-1.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: USC is 4-0, but I kind of think it's a Fugazi 4-0 because they haven't really played a lot of competition in their first Big 10 game, they still gave up like 38, 35 points.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: If 35, I think.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: Um, so I'm interested to see how Lincoln Riley's team does against the ducks, who were supposed to be, you know, favorites to make the the college football playoffs.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: So we'll see.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: But I don't, I think it's a good like old Pac-12 kind of matchup.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: And there are actually there are a lot of really good college games this weekend.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, wait, yeah.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: What we did not discuss, and I do want to get into a couple more college games again.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we did not discuss LSU Ole Miss and how amazing that was.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: I feel like that was Karma Penance, whatever you want to call it.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: Um, but that was so, so great.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: And then I like when the game was over, all everyone's stayed in the stadium and they played calling Baton Rouge.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: And I just really love that level of petty.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it's amazing.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: I love, I love Lane, like a slice of humble pie for Lane Kiven.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, don't get me wrong, I think his antics are hilarious, but for him to be humbled on a primetime stage, oh yes.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: And I he did not see that coming.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: He did not think that was gonna happen.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: And it was one of those things that was clear from like the first play of the game, olmus got this.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: I was very happy for them.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: I was happy for the kids.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: I was happy for their coach.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: Um, I liked how the coach said he thought the AD and the president were gonna have a beer that night.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: So that was a very fun one.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, that was like primetime viewing.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: I actually on Saturday night didn't make plans because I wanted to make sure I could watch that entire game.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: I was like so excited, and I'm not an LTC.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: I got a date, yeah.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: I got a date, I got a date with Lane Kiffin and is it Peter Golden?
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and Peter Golden.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: It's funny.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: I went to school with a kid that has a similar name, but it's not that name, so that's why I keep thinking it's not Peter.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: No, I get it.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I really, really want to watch and enjoy this game.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: So, anyways, I thought that was a lot of fun, but there's a lot of games.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: I think LSU plays Texas AM speaking or Texas Tech.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna look up Michigan plays Iowa, I know that, and that's a big one for both of them.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: There's another Florida, uh, Florida's playing a big opponent as well.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: That is one, that is a big one.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: Um, they are okay, so Texas AM.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: It's Texas AM.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: That'll be fun.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that'll be a fun one for sure.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: But I think there are like a fair amount of really good fun games to watch this weekend.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: So um, it's just so much, so much football.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: And then next week, the wild card starts in baseball.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: So we are months.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Here it is.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: It's the greatest sports month there is.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: Um tied with maybe March, beginning of April, but I don't know.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: I think there's nothing better than October.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's it's the best one.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, do you have anything K-pop for me?
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, so this one's kind of a a nebulous one, but I do want to flag it for you to dive into our listeners.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: Um, have you heard what's going on with Aloe Yoga online?
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: No.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: Apparently, you know, people who are wearing and posting about wearing aloe yoga, like being not being paid, wearing their their clothes, their brands, creators, their stuff is getting blocked and taken down because of allo um has automated intellectual property and copyright flags, which is just so absurd, right?
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: It's like so yeah, they do that.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: And now it's based all this backlash, and like people meanwhile, people are like, Meanwhile, you know the one who never left me hanging, Lululemon or like Viore forever, you know, and so it's just kind of drama.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Um, it's definitely drama.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the aloe backlash is real right now, and then another really positive, happy one.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: Um, we both live in Los Angeles, and so this might not pop up on everyone's feed, but Justin Bieber went to MacArthur Park and did an impromptu, like acoustic set with like bongo drums, guitars.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: And MacArthur Park is notoriously one of the most dangerous parks in downtown Los Angeles.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: It's a source of a lot, a space of a lot of riots, unrest.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Um, and him just being out there with like a crowd of a dozen people and singing like raw.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: And he there's a little kid who had a happy birthday hat on.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: You could tell he just got out of school and won wandered up to Justin with like a selfie video, and Justin's just like happy birthday, dude.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: You know, it was yeah, I thought that was a really beautiful little thing.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: And I keep getting all these videos of different angles of it.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: So that was another special little rabbit hole I went down over the past two days.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll send you some, I'll send you the videos.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: Please, please do because I I love the beeps.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: So that's really fun.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, I love that.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: Well, this has been a fun show, as always.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: Uh, next week we will be basically either a day away from October or in October.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: We will be reviewing Taylor's four new songs.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: We will be reacting, overreacting to week three in the NFL.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: Really hoping no injuries this weekend.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: That would sound like that's probably a pipe dream, but I'm hoping no injuries this weekend.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: But uh, that's that's what we have for you on this week's slander and sleigh.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: Nikki, this was fun.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: So much fun.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: I can't wait.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: And yeah, we'll be we'll be talking first round.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: Uh we'll probably be wild card reactions next week.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we sure, sure will.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: Very, very exciting.
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm Tracy Sandler.
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: This is Nikki K, Slander and Slay on Buzzer.
