- Nate: Tonight on the North American Friends Movie Club. A Brave Boat Captain. A cool pirate. And the American military's ruthless response to any obstruction to naval commerce. We watched the 2013 biographical action thriller film Captain Phillips. Slip into a cute little uniform. And make sure you say over when you're done speaking. Over. Because we're the captains of movie podcasts. And the captain is allowed to honk the ship's horn. This is what it sounds like when we do a podcast. We're currently doing one. This is the North American Friends Movie Club, and you might notice something about the name of our show. And that's Friends Comes Before Movie Club. Because it's simply more important to us. It's as important to us as floating is to a boat. How about that? How about that? Ballast. Ballast. You're the two are the ballasts of my heart. So I gotta ask my two. Little life preservers. How we do it. That was so good. I know. It was from the heart change. It was from the heart change. That's a lot of ⁓ that's a lot of pressure being the ballast of someone's heart. What is a ballast? I don't know what it's different like different compartments in the in the big ships have water in them to make them float. Those kinds of ships? Yeah. How's the Hold on guys? This heavyweight I hate that she doesn't believe us. No, I just that doesn't make science sense to me. It's yeah, water in a boat is it's it's counterintuitive. It's just a heavyweight used for stability. I still don't get it, but keeps it from chipping over. Okay, that's the there's the metaphor. I have an experiment for you to do. Okay. Okay. Take a piece of a small piece of Tupperware, put some water in it. And then put it in your a full tub and watch it float. Yeah. Why wouldn't you just put it with no water? Because then things could get in it and cause problems. Okay. Okay. Why we shit on the experiment? No, no, I I like an experiment. I like an experiment. I'm not gonna lie. I like it. It's just a pure experiment. You're yeah, you're sharing the wisdom of physics or water or flow and listen, I s majored in erosion certain grades. Eight, nine, ten, eleven erosion. That was my I mentioned this before. Because that's what you do to us with your personality is you erode us. Until you love me. That was an insult. That was an insult on purpose because you walked right into it. And I think we're supposed to be funny. And being funny means being mean to people, apparently. So That's one that's one way to do it for sure. Just ask Don Rickles. ⁓ wait, you can't. He's dead. Got him. Is Don Rickles dead? For sure. He has to be. ⁓ if he's not? ⁓ then he's 120 years old. He was a mean man. Doesn't he seem like a mean man? Absolutely. ⁓ yeah, he died in 2017. He died almost 10 years ago. Just before COVID. ⁓ he couldn't have handled COVID. He would have died during COVID. You guys, do you want to hear what's been happening? I would love to. I sure as hell do. ⁓ I've got four or five people coming. To my thing, my event, the three hour dive. Four or five people. Confirm confirmed. Kate, you were worried nobody was gonna come. That's like a 500 million percent increase. Well what if you leak a small rumor that a famous person has signed up or a band has signed up? Jason Sudan, maybe. Can't be too big though. I had a dream last night that Danny McBride was ⁓ romancing we. was romancing me and he was wearing clothes like the guys I dated in high school. I and nice. I didn't get a good night's sleep. Yeah. Like it sounds terrible. It was good. Nick was there. Nick kept walking by and I was like ashamed that I was like talking to Danny McBride. Yeah, you should be. You had you had ill intentions and Nick knew it. And Nick is and Nick was just like I I got I know who you are. He had the Kansas City Nacho helmet in his hands too. ⁓ he we were in Festus. I mean, this shit is not rocket science, right? Like sometimes your dreams are just like very straight on. Danny McBride was dressed like the high school boys. Like, yeah, you don't need Freud. You don't need Freud to get in on this one. Okay, so I wanted to read one thing that is on my flyer that I posted around Kansas City. I like went out And put physical flyers out into the com community. ⁓ taking it to the streets. Take it to the streets because that's who this is for. It's for literally anybody. Okay. So this is for real. You cannot effectively treat any mental health issue without validating your experience of emotional neglect. And people don't talk about that because it's at the heart of what is wrong with family systems and how you grow up. To be a dysfunctional, ⁓ addictive person that to your detriment. Okay. So people don't realize that emo emotional, ⁓ emotional intellect and intellectual, you know, EQ and IQ, right? Your IQ is firm. You're almost born with it, right? The great news is is that your EQ can grow exponentially. Like there is no top level to how smart you can get emotionally. So one way to manage this is to get a lot of psychoeducks. So learn about the things that keep us from feeling fully and then learn about it and then sit with other people that are also learning about it. Because you also have to have a safe environment. So you have to come together on purpose. That it's going to be safe. And that's how people can be healed by this shit. It saved my life. Like, if I would have had I I mean, I save my own life. I did, but like, this is the shit that saved my life. ⁓ so if that is something you're interested in, please come to Kansas City. Come to City on Sunday, August 23rd. You still have five days to get here. Still got five days to get. 10 days? No. When this is released, actually, we would need to double check the dates. I don't know what to say the date. It's a good idea to say the date. 23rd, did you say? You have three. This is coming out the 20th. And this experience, the three-hour dive is the 23rd. Is the Sunday. So you have two days. Dude, just drive over here. If you're within six hours. Invest $150 and feel better yourself. Feel better in yourself. Yes, for yourself. Your your most important product save yourself. But we do have each other. That's what we you know. Okay. ⁓ now thank you for letting me do my marketing. And I will read some notes I have. ⁓ John Oliver gets me worked up. So I c sometimes I can't watch him because he's like fast and smart and it makes my I turn into like ⁓ The book yesteryear, I finished it and I feel stupid. Like this I did not see the ending coming, which I and now I feel stupid about it. Like you feel like you should have seen Yes. And Anne Hathaway though, optioned it and she's gonna make it for Amazon. And I am so excited about that. I gotta I gotta walk back an Anne Hathaway take. I don't know if I talked. I think it was on this show. Wow, somewhere I claimed that Ann Hathaway is not attractive. I remember that because Murphy and Kate thought you were very foolish for saying that. Idiot. I was ex I I couldn't have been more wrong. Dude, she's getting pregnant at forty three. Like it's important to I'm proud of you for realizing you were wrong, you know? I'd I'd get her pregnant at forty six. Doesn't matter. She's very attractive. She's gorgeous. Okay. Talented. Okay, Gary. Pull it back. Just you just said about John L. I know. I'm she's we're happy. She wasn't talking about she wasn't saying worked up like he's so handsome that she gets worked up. She's saying that he's talking about stuff in the world that's so upsetting that she gets she didn't. Yes, I I do I wouldn't John Oliver is not my type anymore. Like he might have been it once. Anyway, okay. So there's the new ⁓ it's a wine and whiskey bar. And they give you a glass of wine and then you have three different kinds of whiskies. Well, I'm not doing that because I don't like whiskey. And they didn't have any wine that I thought looked good. Like listen to me, I'm the snobbiest person alive. But then I ended up having I got this cocktail, ⁓ and it was called a cherry cocktail. I don't know what was in it. It was the best cocktail I've ever had. It had cherry it had like a black cherry in it. In it And whiskey that's how you know it's fancy. No, it was not whiskey. It was a vodka. It was a vodka drink. A chair. ⁓ it was so good, you guys. ⁓ the cherry slept on as a flavor overall. I think we've like did it too much. You know what I mean? I feel like we went cherry heavy and then we've You know, we've overcorrected maybe with it. I feel like I one year when I was sixteen, I went hitchhiking and picking fruit in ⁓ be British Columbia ⁓ in places like called literally called like Peach Land and Summerland, like these kinds of places. And we did cherries and so I would eat like one hundred to two hundred cherries per day. ⁓ you your shits were just like perfect. You've I'd it's n I've never been ⁓ better in that department. But honestly, I don't think I've eaten a single cherry since I did that. I think I ate all my life's allotment of cherries in that two weeks, and I don't think I've ever had one since. I did that with orange juice. Just chugging it? I went hard on orange juice when I was like six or seven. And I got and it made me throw up one night and then I never went back. No going back. I did that with those chocolate lady fingers. There's no amount that would be too much for me of those chocolate ladyfingers. I ate too many of them and I got sick and I threw up as a child and I never had one since. Is that an ice cream thing or is it just ⁓ like a cakey thing? What are ladyfingers? They're th these are like cookies covered in chocolate, but they're shaped like logs and they call them ladyfingers. Yeah. They use them In a famous dessert, but I can't remember what it's called. Terramisu. Yeah. Terramisu. ⁓ I saw a promo for the show called Android. ⁓ and it looks so funny. Be and I tried to find a way to watch it, and there is no way for me to watch it. What's it on? It's on BBC One. And that isn't even and I went onto YouTube and I can like watch shorts, but like you might you know where you might be able to ⁓ at least in Canada, I don't know if this is in the States, but like on Amazon Prime, you can get other channels, like you can get BBC on Amazon Prime for a month. That might be that might be a path for you. But I don't know about America. I need to check that out. I know that we have a BBC one. But I searched. Anyway, I'll try it again. Thank you for the support. I want to keep trying. I'm not giving up. I'm gonna watch the show. She's hilarious. That lady's hilarious. That plays. She's my new favorite. Is it the Philippina Kunk lady? Is it that lady? Yes. I I didn't even I know nothing about the show, but you're talking about like everybody just knows that that lady is so fucking funny. ⁓ my God. She's so good. You You install a VPN on your computer and then you go to BBC IPlayer in the UK and they stream all six episodes. Well, you want answers, I'm giving you answers. That's true. I feel like you that's I will ask you about that later, possibly. And honestly, Kate, I think your reaction was right because I felt the same. I'm like, Kate's not doing VPN. So this this suggestion in a way is like, you know that. You know she's not doing VPN. Nobody likes seeing a pig get shot in the head, but everybody likes bacon. That's a good point, Brent. Hey, you got me back on your side. You got us. Yep. ⁓ so because I couldn't find Android anywhere, I found the show Peep Show from 2003, and it was from BBC and it was on Hulu, and it is like the office, but it's these two guys, and you hear their inner thoughts as they go throughout the day and their roommates. And I really enjoyed it. So I don't know if you've ever heard of that show. Little recommendation. I've never heard of it funny. David Mitchell is funny. I've heard of Creep Show. I've heard of Creep Show. That's different. ⁓ okay. I was at Quick Trip and I some sometimes I go in there thinking I'm gonna get a soda, and I go in there and I get a slushie. And it's so good. I love it. Okay, so I was leaving after I got a slushie and a ⁓ girl, I bet she was 18 years old. re reached her head out her window and she was like, ma'am, ma'am. And I and I was like, yeah. And she was like, We wanted to invite you to church on Sunday. And I was so proud of myself without skipping a beat, I said, no thanks. I've been enough. And while I was walking and I walked away. Yeah. You should have told her that I read the Bible. Yeah, that was good. ⁓ especially like You're you're like not saying I'm not interested. You're like actually catch up to me. You're behind. I'm ahead of you. Catch up to me. I'm inviting you to church. Well, I'm spreading the good word. Yeah, that's right. The gospel. ⁓ spreading the gospel. ⁓ I had this thought, it's the being surprised, like the feeling of being surprised, that's what catches me by surprise. Like if you think about being surprised, it's like a feeling. And then that's even startling. Like, I don't know. That is not makes total sense to me. It's not a smart thought, but that is it makes total sense to me. That it's actually what you're talking about is double surprise. Like something surprises you, but then you're also surprised that it surprised you. You're like, I I'm surprised that I got surprised by that. Yes. So ⁓ I that is when you think about it. You're surprised by the information, but you're also surprised by the event of being told the information. So it's a double surprise. Dude. Holy shit. Disconception. This is the stuff you should be talking about at the dive. This is what I talk about, Brent. Not really. I mean, it's not like this. Like things that ⁓ I know that are. Thank you. ⁓ Thank you. Am I wrong? That's why I chose that spot. Maybe it's just for ⁓ myself. Maybe if you want more information after the three hour dive, we're gonna go meet over and get a hot dog at the Costco. Bonus dog time. Seriously, because they're shutting down that aspect. They are this has been in big news in Kansas City that they are turning that Costco into a business center. So they're getting rid of all of the food, all the pre prepared food. They're getting rid of the pharmacy. There like all the things that like actual people in the community need that because it's it's in the city. So it's not like there's all these great grocery shore stores all around. Anyway. We used to be a society. We used to live in a real society. It might be the only time we can't get your last hot dog after the three hour dive. And that's what's been happening. That's what happened. That's a mixed bag, buddy. I don't know what to I'm riding strong. I'm big dogging it. Okay. You know what mean? Like these are things that I've decided to do. Like, I'm you know what I mean? You're still big dogging it, but you seem like stressed. Yeah. Yeah. Like you're scared and another big dog is gonna come around the corner. No, I think it's only me I have to fear. Big dog casts a big shadow. Big dog has a big collar to fit. I'm really not that scared. Like this is scary. This is the most brave thing I've ever done, I would argue. Like when's the last time you had a soda? I'm drinking one right now. Okay. All right. Making sure. Making sure you're staying hydrated and on your on your stuff. Thank you. Is that a health drink for me? Is it Listen, if I was being weird and then you asked me, like, have you had your coffee yet? And I was like, No, you everyone would like, Okay, well, you probably should have a coffee. Sip on that coffee book. You guys, I forgot one more thing. And it's a big deal. Okay. Today is the hundredth anniversary of my grandfather winning second most beautiful prettiest boy. I don't know if you can see it. This is just for the l the l the audience listening. Kate just pulled out a gigantic framed ribbon. A giant ribbon with a beautiful baby posed in three different photos. ⁓ it's two ribbons. It's two big ribbons. This thing is like I got this from my grandparents. You when they passed away, this is something I wanted. And why is look at it? It's beautiful. Yeah. You know what? What's the official title he wants? You look like your grandpa. Beautiful. Look how big he is. What he just posed like George Costanza. He had the largest hands of any man I've ever known. Like he had just giant ass hands. Big whoppers. What's what's the official title on the ribbon? Retail Grocers Picnic, Fairyland, Thursday, August thirteenth, nineteen twenty six. Second prize, prettiest boy baby. Prettiest boy baby. Second, though. We gotta see. Yeah. We gotta see number one. And he doesn't have a dome like my grandpa. Yes. Two things to say. ⁓ what an insane contest to have. It's crazy. Pretty boy babies. And my second thing is we gotta find out the organizers and the judges. They all had to be on a list. They all had to keep an eye on those guys. Yeah, like if you're if you're a a a male and you're judging baby boys on the prettiness, it's it's a rough look. I would agree with you totally if I did not if I did not firmly believe in my heart of hearts that my grandfather was the second Prettiest boy baby. ⁓ we're not questioning whether Yeah, we're not questioning whether he deserved his ribs. Yeah. No. The common He might have even been robbed. He might have even been robbed. Yeah, there might have been some nepotism involved or some bribery. ⁓ there's an ugly baby that has more power. Yeah. What a t-shirt. There is an ugly baby with more power. There's an ugly baby with more power. What a t-shirt. Last life, babe. ⁓ all right, it's my allotted time to speak. ⁓ I'm gonna instead of what's happening, I'm gonna name my segment today what's not happening. I've been just I've been jet setting big city last weekend. Right. We forgot big, big, big boy in the big city. Big boy in the big city and the city. Guess who's going back to the big city this weekend? No way. ⁓ it's weekends a row in the big city. This is post Dune Brent. PDB. Fucking exploring Arrakis. Yeah, just call me Duncan Idol, because I'm all over this universe. That's a good Dune reference print. That's really good. I'm deep in the book. That's right. ⁓ yeah, so let's talk about last week big time in the big city. ⁓ we went a little bit bar hopping, me and Melissa. We went to the Toothy Moose. That's that picture I sent. ⁓ we were at dirt a place called Dirty Nellies. ⁓ Matt Reif was bartending there. ⁓ you would truly hate him. The minute you saw him, you'd be like, I hate him. I I pretty much on it. It does like crowd work and ⁓ let's see the guy with the jaw. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ that's why I didn't go. I didn't like I don't like him. I didn't go to the the show. my kids did. kids are crazy expensive. ⁓ shouldn't have took them to the malls. Just they went bonkers. ⁓ children are famously expensive. Famously. I had a great Moscow mule. ⁓ What's in that? Ginger beer. Ginger beer and vodka and lime juice. ⁓ I drink that. Yeah, I'd drink that. Yeah, it's really it's really good. And it comes in a you you serve it in a copper mug. You feel like ⁓ this is a real big around here a couple years ago. I put mine in the dishwasher one time and I ruined it. Is it all dark now? Yeah. Yeah shitty looking. You have to shine it up, babe. Get in there. What are you what are you doing? If you're gonna clean your house, polish your copper. Polish your silver. In it with the hammerhead. Damn. Won't be doing that. Eight at five guys for the first time ever? Talk about expensive. Never even seen a five guys before. It's fine. And I embarrass myself right away. I didn't know in the ordering process, I didn't know that every burger is defaulted two patties. Me neither. Because I saw them I just did you order six patties, Brent? No, I ordered a burger. I said I just want a I just want a hamburger and fries. And I saw him put two patties on. And I said, No, I only want a single. And he said, I know. And then I said, But I only want one. And he's like, No, this is the way they come. And I was like, Damn. And then I didn't know that I I thought the girl got mad and quit at the end of the line because when she was putting the fries in the bag. I didn't know that they take a silver scoop prize and just keep throwing keep throwing them in the bag for every order. And I was like, ⁓ Melissa, she is fucking gonna flip out with her, she's freaking out. And Missa's like, Yeah, and I'm like, talk about the ultimate hicks. Like you take the two fuck people from the island, put them in a relatively bigger city, and I'm sit I'm I'm hicking it up. Like I thought she was quitting. And then I was astounded with the fries as there's so much fries here. I kept on looking around like this is Burbine. They trash. They're trash fries. ⁓ no. They I couldn't believe you said I got so upset when you said that. You said that's the most tick thing that you said. That you think their fries are good. I'm just kidding. Fries are delicious. I would go and get five guys and then go to McDonald's and get their fries. That's what I used to do back in the day. I used to do that with AW. You would get a burger or a hot dog from A and W. 'Cause they could get the veggie burger at AW early, but their fries were bullshit. So I'd go AW burger straight over to McDonald's, large Coke, large fries. Boom. Exactly. Cause ⁓ McDonald's also has the best soda. Yeah. ⁓ they got special brew coke at McDonald's, I'm sure of it. And I think it's special brewed Diet Coke, because it's the only Diet Coke I like. Like I don't like Diet Coke elsewhere in the community or distributed. I tried, I went, I was in a big food court. And I tried a juice place. They really gotta tell you if there's gonna be balls in those things. Boba. Tapioca boba's. I took one to the back of the throat. I thought I was gonna die in the middle of the food for I got this passion fruit bullshit drink and I saw the straw. I was like, Holy fuck, whatever. So I stuck it in and then I I was with Hunter and Hunter was the ball in This straw is large. I said, what's with the straws? And I'm just like, I know they're big. I'm like, yeah. And then I popped it in and made that loud bang, which everyone looked at me. No one looked at me. I thought everyone did, but no one did. Because they're used to this. This is daily activity for them. This is not for the big city. In the big city. Doesn't feel a little boba. Me, it's I'm shocked. Anyway, so big straw, super dehydrated. Cause the night before I was on the mules. I was drinking mules. And Anyway, I sucked hard. And two balls shot up through that thing like Did you ever see those that fish tube video where they put the fish in the tube? Yeah. Yeah. That's what ⁓ happened to the back of my throat. I took two tapioca balls. Straight to your river. Holy shit. And as I'm coughing, Hunter does the same thing. He didn't know what the ball is either. And so there's me and Hunter. Did not see them at the bottom of the container? Couldn't see it. Whole family almost taken out by Boba at the same time. See, that's messed up. That's messed up. That's a loss. I got passion fruit and he got guava. So they were dark. You couldn't see the balls. Nice touch. There's guava's guava's a strong choice. There's two fucking hicks in the middle of food court choking on tapioca balls on their passion fruit and guava juices, because they're in the big city. Mm-hmm. It was just it was like the drive of shame home. I was thinking replaying the trip like such a fucking hick. I did do that based so hard on yourself. I know. Like everyone. I know I am gonna you whatever. Who cares? Like, you don't know how to drink boba. Like you're kinda smiling too much when you say that. I didn't know what it was. I think it's weird that they like heat seal the top of it. Do they think it's gonna tip over? Like, I don't know. Yeah, why do they do that? I don't know. ⁓ I did that thing where I went to ⁓ the hotel bear by myself. And had a drink and watched sports. Yeah. That was that was the first time I ever did that. I felt like a swinger. It was funny. Couples were sitting next to me and I was they were talking. I'm like, this is how people swing. I get it. I get it now. Okay. ⁓ Yeah. I had the worst old fashioned I ever heard. No, I did make a a recommend I said the beer was good because they were questioning the stone fruit beer. And you know, this beer is is good. And then you hold up the beer. Yeah. Like the bottle next to your face. Yeah. You rub it. I just put the yeah, put the neck in a little too deep on my ⁓ Yeah, it was he forgot my cherry and he was a nice he was a nice young gentleman. Bartending is not gonna be his thing. It was pale, it was very light, old fashioned. ⁓ and I forgot my cherry. So that was sad. But ⁓ well. He was a nice gentleman though, and he said, see you tomorrow night. And I was like, well, no, I'm going home tomorrow. But that was nice. Like you always like tripod. I look like a a a hotel bar regular. Maybe you do go back, Brent, and that is that becomes your new thing. I'm going back this weekend. ⁓ I might stop over and see him. I might see this weekend. You ⁓ my God. Please do. You need to learn his name. Yeah, I do. ⁓ the hotel did a wild thing. So when we went to go check in, immediately next to the check-in desk, there was another desk with a man that worked there. And he was cooking muscles, complimentary muscles to give it to people. That's very ⁓ Nova Scotia. Yeah, very Halifaxian. It's very Halifaxian. ⁓ great. Ver of co of course, ⁓ me and Hunter we hit the muscle bar and we had, you know, a plate of muscles and they were delicious. But what happens is no what happens is the smell just goes out through the throughout the hotel. That's all. It gets trapped in the elevators and you're smelling muscles the whole weekend. That's the smell of the island. That's living, baby. ⁓ and the last thing is I really upset the Spanish Angels. Two things actually. Scott texted text me and he said he's furious because he listened to last 15 seconds of the Dune episode. And he said, Let me exact words. His exact words were. He said just listened to the last 15 seconds and I'm furious. I said, Why? He said, You Erroneously calling me a Harkinan and the other two who hate me agree. I mean it was really funny, Scott. I don't know what you're talking about. He got your ass. He said you said your girlfriend was gonna have to get a goo tub installed. That's pretty good stuff. And the tubes are gonna have to be cleaned out. The tubes that keep him alive will have to be cleaned out once a week so he doesn't get an infection. the I really riled up the group with the Spanish Angels. Kinda on purpose and kinda not, because I said that the Doom two or the Doom movies and the Doom franchise is way better than Lord of the Rings franchise. I mean, that's a bold take. Is it though? It's bold. It's like people who like cats versus people who like dogs. It's like two different I don't know. Cat people are Lord of the Ring people and dog people are Doom people. Are they? Yep. ⁓ their argument is that the universe is better in Lord of the Rings. And I said they live in mushrooms, and then they told me they don't live in mushrooms, they live in houses that are in hills. No, I said that's better than And also like in in Lothlore and the where the elves live, like they basically live in trees, which is like a big mushroom. Like you're pretty close. You're you're pretty close. Yeah. Here's the thing though, that Lord of the Rings isn't an is a he wrote it. Like he wasn't there weren't we weren't waiting for more. The story was complete. And Dune does not have that. Dunes writer's son keeps writing Dunes. And so to me, that you get a couple points taken off for that. You get all the points taken off for Orlando Bloom ⁓ surfing down a big elephant like Fred Flintstone. Okay, but that wasn't J.R.R. Tolkien's fault. He didn't write that in there. He didn't write like Fucking stuff. That's a cool don't make fun of that. I like that part too. I will always make fun of that. I will always make fun of that. Meanwhile, all of us are gonna be writing down you. No, it's physically impossible to do. ⁓ I said it relies too heavily. I said, ooh, Gand Jody made a good point where it took like nine hours of film from for Gandalf to turn gray to white. Just stupid stuff. the staff that it relies too heavily on magic. I mean it the premise of the whole movie is, hey, you want to go for a walk? just there's multiple bad guys, too many bad guys, and they can't kill four little short guys and a sickly looking fish frog type man. I mean Yeah, but I think you're underestimating the influence of Illuvatar, the Lord of the Lord of the Rings. I think like maybe there's a I don't know who that is. That's not fact. And remember, my claim is not the books. My claim are the movies. ⁓ okay. Okay. Well that I still disagree with that. I I'm just you what, I feel very lucky to just love both. I'm like we're watching Dune, good mood. Watching Lord of the Rings. Kelsey, Mama. Mama Kelsey. Mama Kelsey, let's go. My brain's not wired that way where I I feel like I have to like one and hate the other. Yeah. ⁓ The Gomin Jabbar is cooler than anything involved in Lord of the Rings. and the still suits cooler. And it is Also, I like the use of women in that it's like femin it's not necessarily feminist, but I mean it is the trope of like the c The conniving witch or like the conniving, you know, that women can't be trusted. You deserve to be thought of as conniving, just like men. Like, you know what I mean? Like that takes a skill. And they're really fucking good at it. They're like evil viziers. Like we're respect it. They got hustle. Yeah. Benny Jesseret, Halloween costume. I'm gonna put the trash cane on my head. I would love to see you as I would love to see you as a Benny Gesseret. I'd love to see that. I I have a couple months to secure some blue ⁓ eye contacts as I am going to be front to trades. ⁓ let's do the weekly report. Let's do the weekly you know what? Before we do the weekly report, let's do an email segment. 'Cause I have messages that I've received in regards to the podcast. We got some emails. This is the email segment. Does this count as the email though? Yep. If somebody me if someone sends us a message to me, that counts as an email in my heart. Hell yeah. Is the email segment song gonna play? Yep. Okay. ⁓ the first message is from Chris. I'm not gonna say your last name just in case you don't want me to. So it's our friend Chris. He says Calculator level up, we used to do boobless. We were talking about boobs, we were talking about boobies. There is one more boob word you can write on a calculator, and that's boobless. And I think that was a really good point that he made that we should get on the record. Yes. Absolutely. I remember that. And I couldn't remember what all the words were, but I knew there were variations. So thank you for helping us remember. Chris also says, ⁓ he's I'm still listening, so not sure if he references it, but I made the claim that the cast of Dune 2 could be the best looking cast ever assembled. Ooh. And he's ⁓ he's making some points there. There is not ⁓ there is some really good looking even like they even have good looking people playing the ugly people. Like Austin Butler is famously good looking, but they make them all weird and bald. So even the uglies Stellan Skyskard, very handsome man, but they put him in some goo in a fat suit and hide it. I I'm gonna th I'm gonna think about that for a while. I'm gonna think about whether that's ⁓ I can't think of a movie that has a more yeah. It's a beautiful ugly. Charlie's Angels. Charlie's Coyote Ugly, I said. I that's a that's a bad tip. What about one hundred or ninety nine? Or what's the Gladiator? ⁓ three hundred. We were we just had to keep going. Why did I say one hundred? One hundred, and then you're like, no, that's too many, ninety nine. But it's really three hundred. Yeah. you guys, I went and saw the the Odyssey. That was awesome. I'm going in two weeks or a week. I can't remember. I'm going sometime soon. I had the crampiest seats too, and I still really enjoyed it. You liked No, there's the There's so many more movies of more attractive people. That's such as Titanic, porn, ⁓ I mean Billy Zane's pretty good looking too. So that's I can think of three handsome people from Titanic. No love for Kathy Bates? You calling Kathy Bates ugly? Listen, I'm a big Kathy Bates guy, but also saying Zendaya is more beautiful than Kathy Bates, yes. Yeah, I would say Zendaya is more beautiful than Kathy Bates. I'd like to hear you argue against that, Brent. That's a safe bet. I'm the I'm the Doom guy. That's a safe bet. You're doomed. I'm a big Zendaya head too. ⁓ the second message I received is from our friend Kate, who has appeared on two episodes of our show ⁓ already, because her movies got chosen. She wrote Very wise. She's a wise, great name. She's just saying that 'cause it's the same name as her. Keep going. And also it show me ⁓ tell me I'm wrong. Kate's right? She did wise. She's wise, great name. Beautiful, talented. This, you know, we got good listeners. ⁓ dear North American friends, waiting two weeks for an episode was like forcing my hand in the pain box. I think you should let me pick the topic for next month, which will be nice guys, don't finish last, XOXO Kate, Chuck the Bear Forever. Little message from Kate. ⁓ ⁓ no, you will not be choosing next. We you're not no one is allowed to choose but us. Official host duties of that official host duties is a good that is a good idea. And maybe I will steal it for the next time after oceans and beaches. Oceans and beaches. Terrains. ⁓ Write us everyone who's listening, write us an email. Come on, we need emails for the email segment. North American Friends Movie Club at gmail.com. Know the. Correct. Time for the weekly report. Week, week, week, week, week, week, week, week, week, weekly report. Weekly report. ⁓ I forgot something last week when I was telling you guys about how ⁓ things are turning around. Things are turning around for me. And I can't remember what I mentioned that was like, ⁓ yeah, things life's getting better. But one thing that I should have mentioned mentioned is that I was given I in accidentally inherited an extremely fancy stereo system and nine hundred records. Whoa. Nine hundred records. And it's so exciting because I have not even looked inside the boxes that I received. So I have no idea what kind of records are in there. There could be like incredible records. There could be a record with a magic spell on it that makes you good at basketball. And when you listen to it, you can all of a sudden dunk. Like the right now, anything is possible inside of these boxes. And so it's such an exciting time in my life to like I wonder what it's gonna be. ⁓ my God. You're definitely gonna have an Eddie Rabbit record in there. I it's like having a present all the time. 900 presents. 900 presents. I'm just sitting here like I wonder. ⁓ man, I wonder if Jimi Hendrix is in there. Or like, ⁓ man, I wonder if there's some ⁓ Eric Clafton in there. I bet you have Michael Jackson thriller in there. ⁓ maybe. 100%. Maybe. I don't have thriller on vinyl. Or maybe I do have thriller on vinyl. We'll find out when I open up these boxes. Well, I'm sorry that somebody had to die, but good work on them to give you that. I felt like he was living his life the way he wanted to live it. It was my dad's high school friend, her brother, passed away. He had an apartment here in the city. So we went to help him clean out the apartment. And he just had like six hundred cases of black ice beer sacked up in there. And I'm just like, he's this man is just sitting here cranking beers, listening to his records, living his life. Like respect. Good on him. Good on him. Way to go is live on your own terms. How old was he? He was older. So he was probably in his 70s. Okay. ⁓ yeah. Yeah. Green light. So he worked. Like he wasn't. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, he wasn't, my guess is a functional alcoholic, which is one of the best ways to do it if you're gonna do it. I mean, anything everything you're gonna do should be functional. Yeah. Yeah, as long as you're functional. There's not a there's a Hard press to find a better word in the dictionary than functioning. That's right. ⁓ so I have to adjust. I was gonna build a thing for my records. I have to adjust I have a lot of adjustments to make because we gotta we gotta make room for more records. We got a new design going back to the drawing board. ⁓ my god, you like tripled your how many did you have before? I probably had like a hundred and fifty records, really good records. Now you have two hundred and fifty. I now have ⁓ a thousand and fifty. ⁓ you said nine hundred horrible today. So many. Yeah, it's that's so heavy. So many records. Yeah, it was boxes and boxes. Every box was heavy. So we'll see. I doubt I'll keep all nine hundred. I'm sure I will probably get rid of half of them and trade them for like I'll probably trade like four hundred records for the record store equivalent of like ten new really fancy records is probably how That'll go down. It's a good idea. I'm trying to think of a a singer or an artist or a band that put out a lot of albums. And ⁓ it'd be funny if it was just all that one artist. Just Frank Zappa. His Frank Zappa's most like obnoxious poems. I hope you get some prints. ⁓ I'd love some I'd love some prints. I don't have any prints records. I'd like to see Here's some things that I'd like to see in there. I'd like to see a mint copy of Aqualung in there. That would I'd be really psyched about that. I'd like to see ⁓ an original Zeppelin two. I'd like to see an original Zed Zeppelin two, you know? That'd be great. Who knows? Who knows? Jethro Tall. We didn't know who Aqualung was. Sitting on a park bench. yeah. ⁓ I knew the song. I did my four D's, of course. I lifted the weights. I drank my dairy. I danced. I had some good dances this week. And then I read my Dante. Of course. I didn't read that much Dante this week. The last part was like it was very ⁓ They were they're in this part of hell that people are like ⁓ buried under burning tar, and they keep like and if they stick their heads up, there's like Demons waiting with sticks to poke them in the face and push them back down into the tar. And then they like the demons try to stop them, and they like have to talk to the main demon. And the main demon's like, Okay, let these guys through. But it was very like, I don't know, it was actually kind of given Lord of the Rings movie where they were like, Come on, boss, let let us let us give them a bite. Just a little bite. Come on, boss, let us poke them one time. He's like, No, no, you can't bite them or poke them. ⁓ I thought that was and then like. They were trying to cross this place, but all the bridges are broken. So they're like doing a platforming section of the book right now where they're like ⁓ jumping up on stuff and ⁓ Virgil had to like ⁓ pick up Dante at one point and Dante's like he's so strong and he's carrying me in his arms and he could have put me down, but I didn't I let him carry me all the way up 'cause it was so nice to be carried. I was like, Dante loves this guy. Wow. Dante loves Virgil. He's like his boy. like getting a little extra tummy time is kind of funny. I forgot about the Dante Virgil dynamic. and then my last thing is it's still it's still raining every day. It poured poured rain last night. It was raining so much that it was leaking rain into the Tim Hortons slash gas station. Like it never stops raining here. And so I have a new one. That is within the theme this week. I said, Who am I? Captain Phillips? Because I'm surrounded by water. Perfect. Yeah, that's that's the weekly report. ⁓ speaking of Captain Phillips being surrounded by water, it was my pick this week ⁓ for Ocean Beach Month. and I chose Captain Phillips and I would love for Kate to tell everybody what Captain Phillips is about. Captain Phillips is a movie about a pirate attack on an on a ship that was bringing food to Africa. So they're going from one point in Africa to the other. And Captain Phillips is Tom Hanks and he captains ships, and so he goes to captain this ship. And they're like, this is a dangerous area. And he's like, I know. And he's like, everybody needs to be really serious about pirates. And the co-captain and the people were like, Okay, try hard, like, chill out. And then there's obviously pirates. So we see pirates that come from Somalia. And there ends up being four of them. And one of them is the leader. And he They take Captain Phillips hostage off into a ⁓ escape pod boat that the US Navy comes and follows and ends up towing. And cat they negotiate with Muse, the leader, and they exchange him for Captain Phillips, and then they kill all of the other ⁓ Pirates and Mousse lives and Captain Phillips is extremely traumatized. And that's Captain Phillips. Excellent. That is you ⁓ you guided Started slow and then I got it. You guided that just like a boat. Yeah. Around the Horn of Africa. Very nice. Let's talk about our favorite parts. Let's do it. I was not looking forward to this, and then I started watching it, and I was enthralled. I had forgotten his acting is so good. His it the second half of this movie is some of the best acting from Tom Hanks. I would say it's an underrated Tom Hanks performance, I would say. Like he is doing some work. He's the most believable guy as different guys. Like you believe that he's the head coach of or the manager of a female baseball team. You believe he's a captain of a boat. You believe he's gonna fight a volcano. ⁓ you believe that he was part of the suburbs. That's a burbs reference. You believe that he was lost at sea. Yeah, that's right. That's castaway. ⁓ believe that he fell in love with a mermaid and lived as as a woman. To get better rent prices. Is that Bosom Buddies? Yeah that's Bosom Buddies. Yeah. We're killing it. We're killing this. This is good. ⁓ yeah. I guess that's what the whole point of acting is, but yeah, he's good at it. Sure is. He's just really fucking good at it. Acting is one of those things that's kind of like singing where there's like lots of people who are like pretty good at singing and then someone who's like incredible at singing comes along and you're like, Holy shit, that's different. Like that's a different thing. Yeah. It's like when you see like a real, real beautiful person up close. Yeah. And you're like, ⁓ And you can't stop smiling. Yeah. You're like, ⁓ that's what it's like. Did that ever happen to you guys when you saw someone so pretty that you were struck so much that you just couldn't stop smiling? And I'm like, there's I've seen someone so pretty that I didn't want to look at them anymore. It was like it was like too bright, Tom. I've seen someone so pretty where I had I decided to make changes in my life. Like just like I'm doing something wrong. Like I hate myself. Like I'm the ugliest person that ever walked. You're not. You're not. You're not, bro. I know. I know. You have to start believing that. ⁓ you know it would be helpful is ⁓ the three hour guide. If only I could get here at least three hours. I'll give you a gratis ticket. You can get here. Can I just do it online? No, it's not offered online right now. Well just take a letter. You don't Brandon you don't want Brent interrupting that class. It might be. I'd be doing bits. I'd be doing bits. You don't want Brent doing bits during the three hour. Yeah. Yeah, I'd be doing lots of bits. Well, I wouldn't want you to come though. I would start off my first bit would be my first bit would be, is this gonna be on the test? I'd ask that after every thing you said. But then you are also the kind of guy who'd you'd start off as a smart ass, but then by the end of it, you're just like in a puddle, just weeping and like I use humor to defend. I'd be crying like Captain, like Tom Hanks is Captain Phillips when he finally got rescued. That's how I'd be crying. But I felt I felt that man. When he was like when the doctor was talking to him and he was like in total shock, I was like, I believe that Tom Hanks just got. kidnapped by pirates right now like he is to do that was like a such a good representation of like traumatic experience. It was so good. No I didn't like physicality. Like his ⁓ my God. His eyes like yes. And then when he breaks down, so he's like so mad at the Navy and he's so mad at the pirates and he's just like fucking do something. I'm done. Yeah, when he was killing me or so or whatever. Yeah. Yeah. That was intense. ⁓ I can't take it anymore. I can't take it anymore. No what I didn't like? I didn't like the starts when they're like just setting the the tone for the movie and he's on the he the ship and he goes to his ⁓ his crew. He's like, Y'all about done with that coffee? Don't like passive aggressive. Listen, he's the captain. The captain's Yeah, Andy was right. They were fucking around. They need to get their shit together. And maybe if they had not been drinking so much coffee, they would have got that one fire hose set up right. Right. Okay. It's a good call. I'm pro pro worker, but you I mean, we gotta save our own lives here, guys. Yep. You gotta we gotta follow the chain of command. I will make one criticism of Captain Phillips that I would have played things a little bit differently. They started the hoses too soon. You gotta wait till those guys get in with hose range, because though you started them tooon, they can They can dodge the hoses. That's right. They'll know where to go. When the the pirate guy Musil ⁓ kept on identifying himself to the Navy or the crew, he would say, You guys are gonna be okay, not Al-Qaeda. Like, why is Al-Qaeda catching strays? Like if I was think of the time, you know, this was when now everyone was really mad at Al-Qaeda, really mad. But if I'm a member of Al Qaeda and I'm watching this movie, I'm like, okay, it's on now. Every time I go do something, I'm gonna say, you know, not Somile Pirate. I saw this funny thing on the internet today about I call Al-Qaeda, and it was a ⁓ it was an article that said, you know, now that they've taken over government, like they have to do government jobs, and it's all of these like freedom fighters that now have like nine to fives. And it was about how they hated Having to do office work instead of In Afghanistan, right? Yes. In Afghanistan. Yeah. ⁓ instead of riding horses and laughing with the boys. And shooting guns. Yeah. Exactly. And it's like very funny because so now no one's happy. What you're doing office work. The ladies aren't allowed to go to school. Like, what was this for? What's this for? ⁓ I would have had I had I thought of a really badass line during this the the situation where They actually got on the ship, the big ship, and then they're he's trying to figure things out like how am I gonna do this and how am I gonna like get this ship back to I have to take it or now? And then if I was Tom Hanks, I'm like, Y you're you're a dog who finally caught the car. What are you gonna do with it? Dude, I I was thinking that about Musei. I was like, he acted as if this was gonna be easy. Like, what did That's what I'm saying. Tom Hanks should have said it to Musa, yeah. This I'll cause that that same thought I had and I wrote, This is why I think people who do crime are often dumb. Cause like crime is easy, but getting away is what's hard. Like people don't like Yeah, you rob a bank, okay, you have money now, like then what? They're gonna fucking see you. It's not as if we don't have cameras. I was gonna say, Brent, it's like send it off. They really didn't think through and send it off. They were just like they just went with it, you know. At least they had masks on. Where are they gonna take that thing? Like you it's hard on They were so beautiful you look away. They were so beautiful look away. Too bright. Like, ⁓ here's my money. ⁓ that's another that's a movie that has beautiful people in it. It really does. Potato, yeah. Queen Latifah. Queen Latifah her best. My queen. Sorry, Brent, I'm interrupting you. Viv K Fox. ⁓ I forget. See, we talked about pretty people now I I'm messed up. Yeah, like just compopulated. I have a comment if you want Sure. That ⁓ when the Navy SEALs tell you to just relax, ⁓ you are no you know that you are not in like a good place. Like Yeah. Anytime that's such a act, that's probably my favorite point you brought up in all the movies watched. And it's so true. If the navy SEALs are trying to calm you down, you are in like the worst possible position. And you will get blood splattered all over you. All that you would do if you were if you were the victim and you're kidnapped in this position, like that's all you do is just sit still and like close your eyes. Like Yeah, maybe cover the back of your neck or something like that. Like get as small as possible. Yeah. What a f that's such an amazing point, Kate. You're so smart and funny. Great job. Thanks. ⁓ I this note doesn't make sense to me, but it's it's true. It just says can't trust pirates. Nope. I think that's inherent in the it's like Nazis. Like you can't can't trust pirates, you can't trust Nazis. I do think Tom Hanks likes war and battles and ships and He's a history buff. Yeah. ⁓ You know, produced Band of Brothers. Yeah, he was in that Greyhound movie that I know you like that movie. I love that movie. I know. And he was Sully. He was Sully? I didn't watch Sully, but Me neither. It's basically this, but in the air. He lands a plane. Come on. On top of on on top of in Somalia. No, no, no. Sully I know it's a joke. ⁓ okay. It's a Captain Phillips is Sully movie joke. You guys wanna do a quiz? Yes. Love to. Okay. Call this the Seven Faces of Captain Phillips. It wasn't any. Where did the ship start out from? Somalia, Sudan, Congo, Yemen. Who's first? No, it's not the question. I just made that up. It's not. I know. I'm like, I don't think it started in any of them. I don't think it started in any of those. I don't know what that means. The the chewing of the thing, the cop. ⁓ that auto corrected to that. Okay, so the the chewing of the green leaf, where did that start? Okay. Okay. We all back on track now. Yeah, we're back on track. Auto corrected. Rookie. Rookie. ⁓ Somalia, Sudan, Congo, or Yemen, Nate, you go first. Where did that originate? I'm also Yemen on ⁓ well they should call it Yesim because you're both correct. Boom chewing of the cod originated in ⁓ Yemen. ⁓ when Captain Phillips was given jobs for the crew, he looked at the guy from Severance and told him to run some tests. What was the first test drill? That he mentioned. Was it man overboard, fire, pirates, or storm? What drill? Mine. Yep. Did he mention first? Man overboard. Fire. He said, sure, Cap, want to start with fire? Nate gets a point. The captain now. Yep. I'm taking this so seriously. What deck was the mess hall on? Was it on the A B C or D deck? C. It was on C deck. I agree. C dick. Did you hear it? Yeah, I heard Kate. What she said? Say it again, Kate. C dick. Yeah. I thought she was gonna say seamen. that's good. what did you say, Nate? C. And Kate? C. ⁓ no, if famously, if you're you're you're weak, you can't be going up so many floors. You're on the A-deck. You need your nourishment on the A-deck. Gone forever. Gotta get the nourishment on the A-deck. How many nautical miles was the Bain Ridge ⁓ ship? From the hijacking when they were first alerted. Was it five hundred and twenty, six hundred and twenty, seven hundred and twenty, or eight hundred and twenty nautical miles? Five hundred. The five. Six. They were eight hundred and twenty miles away. That's a that's a long time for Somali pirates. Gone forever. They s they ⁓ they s did ⁓ sail through the s the well I guess it would be sail, but what would you say? Yeah. Ship sail, even when they don't have a sail. Okay, sure. They sailed around the Horn of Africa. Which country is not included Which country is not included in the Horn of Africa, the Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia, Eurytria Eritrea. ⁓ I even supposed to know phonetically on my thing. Is that your answer? ⁓ no. I'm gonna guess Sudan. I'm also guessing Sudan. You guys are both correct. It's the Sudan. Yes. Hell yeah. Yeah. What's ⁓ it's a Yeah. Can we get a score update? Nate has three, Bran has two, Kate has two. Okay, Kate. One more? Two more. Let's go. Lifeboats. That they were in are required to run continuously for twenty four hours. At which speed? Five knots, six knots, seven knots, or eight knots. Eight five. I think it's six. Incorrect. It's six. Okay. Even my second chance was 199. We managed to pick everyone except for the correct gone forever. ⁓ Musil, the main character, the main Somali pirate, ⁓ has a bump on his head in the whole entire film. How did he get that bump on the head? Was it an accident on set? Scar from a surgery, car accident, or a burn? I'm gonna say surgery. Car accident. Key? Well, I always have that bump. Honest head forever that he acquired as a young man from a car accident. Ties it up. Wow. ⁓ What do we do now? I'm going well. Okay, let's think of let's think it up together. Okay. And then we look up the answer. Let's do the let's do ⁓ the the population of Djibouti. Okay. Closest to. Okay. ⁓ I'm gonna say. Eight hundred and seventy-four thousand. Okay. I'm gonna say three million. Classically well populated continent. I'm gonna say six million people live in Djibouti. Okay, let's look. Well, I am the winner. One point two million people. I was off by four hundred thousand. Chris the winner. Gone forever. ⁓ Congratulations. Wow. Hold it out at the end, just like Captain Phillips and the mail. Brent, I think that you are a remarkable, ⁓ resilient man. I think that that you are your only limitation, and anything you wanted to do, you can do. And I that's you're an inspiration to us all. A post Dune Brent is what we all need and what I think is it looks good on you. Thank you, Catherine. My compliment for you is that you possess ⁓ one of the care characteristics that I respect the most in human beings. The most. It may be number one. It's top three for sure. Toughness. You're extraordinarily tough, buddy. You have to go through pain every single day and that you're like just fucking strap it on. Head on out there. I kind of abhor people who are too soft, but I love a tough guy. And you're a tough guy. So good good for you, but you look mean too sometimes. Yeah. I'm like a smiley pirate. Thank you. It's the compliment section is the best idea I've ever had. It's great. I love it. I can love it. Yeah. I'm so I could run through a goddamn wall right now. Let's ⁓ that's how it feels if you start doing that for yourself. That's what it feels like to have good self esteem. And you would learn that on the three-day dive taking place in ⁓ Kansas City. Three hour three hour dive. Yep, three hour dive. Yeah, one of these hours. August twenty-third, twenty twenty six in Kansas City. And I heard a rumor that some Benson Boone is doing a concert there that weekend, and he may stop in at the the I heard he's gonna do a front flip this time instead of a instead of a back flip. He's gonna switch it up. I can't confirm or deny anything. Don't Okay, don't confirm it, don't deny it, don't you have no plausibility for it. Plausible I'm not saying Jethro Tull is gonna be playing there, but I heard some flutes are being shipped overseas right now. So there's a lot of aqua long merch being shipped to Kansas City right now. what's the next part? ⁓ fancy crypsters marry rich. So it's time to marry the medals. Would you guys like to hand out some medals? Yes. Absolutely. Giving my bronze to the mean pirate. They saw Amit. That guy was so mean. He's my bronze guy, too. Same with me. He he was calling it like it is. You have to be that way when you're being a hijacker. You can't talk. Can't talk to the people. That's how emotions get involved. And then you have to be mean all the time. Do not listen to what the white man is saying. If you're gonna do it pirate shit, be a pirate. You gotta go all the way. Yeah. No one remembers the polite pirate. It was always the mean pirate. Yep. I agree. That's a turkey sandwich there. Yeah. It's time for silver time for silver medals. ⁓ I I'll start off. ⁓ my silver medal is going to Mr. Tom Hanks. ⁓ just one of the best to do it. ⁓ he got big dog this one, though. and he is he is probably On my short list with Javier Birdem Daniel Day Lewis's favorite actors. Silver medal. Mm-hmm. That's a good list. Mine's going to Moosey. look at him acting. I mean, it kind of takes a lot of naivety. You know what I mean? Like, it probably is a benefit to be naive in acting before you. I agree. I totally agree, Kate. Cause like like the press the He's performing like there isn't as much pressure as there actually is on him. Exactly. He's not phased at all. ⁓ and because of that, I'm gonna give my silver to Tom Hanks as well. I think this is an incredible Tom Hanks performance. I think he's really good in this, especially the last 10 minutes or 15 minutes of the movie. He's like doing a lot. He's doing a lot. But I'm gonna I'm going with Brent. I'm gonna give him my silver and then I'm giving a give my gold to Barkad Abdi, who they called him up first game in the big leagues. It's game seven of the World Series and he's the starting pitcher and he threw a fucking shutout. Like just ⁓ legendary. Legendary. He yeah, he's from Somalia. I he went to the University of Minnesota. he has a very good name for what he did, Bark had, because he was the big dog in that movie. Gold medal. Look at me. I'm the captain now, Tom Hanks. Sit your white ass down. Listen to what I'm gonna say. I'm gonna act my we're somewhere in the in the around the Horn of Africa. Somewhere floating in that water is my hole. Cause I'm gonna act it off and I just put you in a box. Gold medal. My gold is going to Tom because I am ⁓ I have a soft spot for white men like How people act. Like it's hard to act traumatized realistically. And I was just so impressed with how he acted and how ⁓ real it was. It felt really real. He wasn't doing too much. No. But was ⁓ and ⁓ just every movie Tom Hanks is in is easy to watch. And so gold medal. Cool Metalford. We give thanks for Tom Hanks on this podcast and we always have and we always will. Yep. That's one thing you're gonna get with this show. Yep. I also give thanks for ⁓ the great work that both of you guys have been doing so far on the show. Would you guys like to give this movie a rating? Yes. Yes, I would. The script for this movie, based on a real life story of a thing that actually happened, and then the guy wrote a book about it, and then they made a movie about it. What do you think of the script for the film Captain Phillips? ⁓ it's it's it's ten. It's got everything I want in a movie. Big ocean boats, pirates, there's fucking chewing on green stuff. Ten. I'm gonna give it a nine. I'm gonna split the difference. I thought it was great, but it was like I don't know why. It's not perfect to me, but it's there's nothing wrong with that. I can't describe why I feel that way. So just nine just feels right, and I'm going on a vibes-based respectable. Art direction, the art the sets, the props, the costumes. They got a whole big boat going in this one. There are gears, there are cogs, different spinning wheels, hoses, lifeboats. What else are you gonna what else are you gonna Yeah, it felt felt real to me. felt like they were on a real boat. Yeah. I'm gonna go ten. I think I don't know how much better they could do. Hated as goatee. ⁓ yeah it was gross. I didn't like it. It was it looked gross. The goatee really looked gross to me. ⁓ and I don't like the design of lifeboats. They looked silly like little tiny they should be in bottom. Yeah yeah bath toys exactly what are you gonna give it? ⁓ eight for the gross goatee and the bath toys. Okay. I give it a nine. ⁓ the music for this film. It was like it was good. It was perfectly like exactly what you would expect. Nothing special but nothing wrong. So I that that whenever that happens to me, I go seven and a half. It's like perfectly good. I always follow your lead, Nate. So I'll give it a seven and a half too. ⁓ big whiff. ⁓ so many good songs related to the water out there that could have been used. ⁓ w they should have used Beach Boys, wouldn't it be nice when everything was going good? ⁓ ace. The genre for this film, this is a biographical action thriller. It's got to be biographical with some actions and some thrills. Well, there's lots of action, there's lots of thrills, and it is a true story. I mean, I can't think of yeah, I can't think of a better way to do this. That's a ten from me. If you survive a smally attack and you should get a ten. ⁓ the theme this month is water, it's oceans and beaches. It's oceans and beaches month. It's one or the other or both. This is a 10 because this is what happens on the ocean. Like this is real this is reality. Yep. It's a lawless land. It's ⁓ basically all on ocean. It's it's ten for me. ⁓ big boats scare me. I get nervous when I see a big boat like that. They shouldn't be able to do what they do. They shouldn't be able to float. ⁓ I don't give a fuck about science, ballast, whatever that whatever happens, they shouldn't be able to float. ⁓ never get on a cruise ship ⁓ ten. You have phobia? No, yeah, I do, I think, of big boats. I had a quick story. When you drive off the island onto the mainland, you have to go across the causeway and there's always ships there. And there was we my friends were driving across it one year and they're all like from different countries and stuff. And they were looking at like, ⁓ what country is that from? They're like Bulkan, Bul Condolin, Bukhandelin. I'm like, it says bulk handling, you idiot. ⁓ Fucking idiots. ⁓ That's a good that's that's good. They're dummies. ⁓ this movie gets a forty-five point seven, which that sounds about right for Captain Popster. Yeah, it's like it's like perfectly fine. Great Sunday movie, you know. Forty five point what forty seven point seven. Yeah. Great. That's the way it is. Great Sunday movie. and I guess it's time for me to choose my film. I film when I when I when I started to think about this, I've already picked a lot of movies that would have fit this category, right? I I've already had done Master and Commander. We've already done that one. Muppet Treasure Island also would have been a choice. Kate Stodder just brought out a Kool-Aid man that you can squeeze like a squishy like an influencer. She's this is she's yeah that's the sound. Yeah. Some more She said you better keep that in there. I'll keep it in there. So my film is from 2004. Here are some of the performers in this film. You just tell me if you guys think 2004? That's right. Mm-hmm. Here are some people in this film. Angelica Houston, Kate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Owen Wilson, and of course Bill Murray. We will be watching The Life Aquatic with Steve Zizo next week. Wait a sec. Is this that director? Yep. It's the director that you don't like. Fuck's sakes. But this is my favorite one by him, so I like your chances of of enjoying this. And the music, Brent, you're gonna love the the music in this he has a red hat. He's different. It's a great Halloween costume. Yep. For hipsters. It's a it's funny, it's sad, it's good. This is a good film. We're gonna watch this next week. and that means all that's left to do is say goodnight, Kate. Good night, Kate. Look at me, Kate. Good night. On DVD, Steve Zisu has a way with women. Away with words. Do you all not like me anymore? And a way with animals. So I'm sick of these dolphins. Alife a quiet. Own it today on DVD. Why is Al-Qaeda catching strays?
