- 0:04Welcome to the for Freedom podcast.
- 0:32This podcast exists to bring the freedom of the gospel for
- 0:36everyday Christians, with everyday issue.
- 0:40Now, here are your hosts John hollifield and James sacred.
- 0:48Welcome back everybody to the for Freedom podcast and we are
- 0:52here this week. We talked last week about
- 0:56parenting and we're sort of referring back to some things
- 0:59that our friend Jim who has a wrote in parenting is more than
- 1:02a formula talking about legalistic formulas, within
- 1:06parenting. And so we're going to finish
- 1:08that talk up today. James, how you doing today
- 1:11doing? Well, John, it's been a blessing
- 1:13to serve the Lord and be in Ministry where we're at.
- 1:17And it's just been Blessing to see.
- 1:19My son started baseball, and got the head up.
- 1:23Baseball practice. We won our first game of
- 1:25football, and I'm coaching a little flight football team in
- 1:29my life school. And that's been a blessing, just
- 1:32be able to influence some of those kids.
- 1:33And there's one guy that I'm been mentoring.
- 1:35These last couple of weeks. His dad is an atheist John, he's
- 1:40in a Christian school and he he's my quarterback.
- 1:44And so I took him to lunch a couple times and it's been great
- 1:46just to be able to get to know him and for some of those
- 1:48questions that he's had in scripture but also just you know
- 1:53as his dad's an atheist he believes that there is no God.
- 1:56It doesn't even understand why they're in a Christian School
- 2:00and his mom is struggling with some things and it's just been a
- 2:03been a great talk. It's been a great time just to
- 2:06be able to influence and impact though his life a little bit but
- 2:10yeah it's been great. Good deal, good deal going great
- 2:15just just working and, and pastoring, and doing that kind
- 2:22of stuff, and You work drawn. Yeah.
- 2:25And then my son, my son likes to play Mario.
- 2:31And we got this old Mario game. So we all get four controllers
- 2:34and we just play Mario together. We have four controllers.
- 2:44You said we all get 4 controller so I'm just confusing.
- 2:46Your word here. Know, we all get control of.
- 2:49Everybody has a control. We got four people play.
- 2:52You see how work you see how words can sometimes mess up the
- 2:56meeting? When you say things like that?
- 2:59The in the English which leads us into property?
- 3:022013 6. Well, I was trying to segue jump
- 3:05in. Come on I'll travel do like we
- 3:07did laughing have a great little second I second.
- 3:10Yeah, we left off last week, talking about this and I said I
- 3:13was going to Plain this, this passage but Proverbs 22:6 has
- 3:17been a very misunderstand. Understood passage that a lot of
- 3:21people take as a Surefire promise that your kids are going
- 3:23to turn out, right? It says, train up a child in the
- 3:25way that he should go. And when he is old, he will not
- 3:28depart from it. I think some of the problems
- 3:30with this is that the way it's been translated into English.
- 3:34But number one, you have to understand what the context is
- 3:36in. The context is that it's in the
- 3:38Book of Proverbs. And what is Proverbs Proverbs is
- 3:41wisdom literature its wisdom. Literature what is wisdom
- 3:45literature. You go through the entire Book
- 3:47of Proverbs and you see this often wisdom literature comes in
- 3:49the form of warnings. It's warning, don't do this,
- 3:53don't do this, don't do this. Be careful for this watch out
- 3:57for this. You look through the whole Book
- 3:58of Proverbs. You see a lot of that.
- 4:00It's warnings. What this is is not a promise.
- 4:04It's a warning. All right, that you need to
- 4:08train up a child in the way that they go.
- 4:11All right, so they won't depart From that.
- 4:14Now it goes a little bit deeper than that.
- 4:17It's not a promise. It's a warning to train up the
- 4:19child in the way that they should go it but it goes a
- 4:22little bit deeper that I says that train up a child.
- 4:26In the way that word way comes from a Hebrew word that actually
- 4:33goes back to the root word, is that of your palette and it was
- 4:37used in the form of it was used in with in which as nursing
- 4:45mothers trying to develop the pallet of their of their infants
- 4:52to take their milk. So is trying to develop their
- 4:56palate so they could take that. All right?
- 4:59So understand that word and that way it is train up a child in
- 5:04the way and that that they should go that Hebrew
- 5:07construction right there. Is really saying this train them
- 5:10up in their way. I love of Chuck.
- 5:12Swindoll explains his first he says that it think of it like a
- 5:16bent each child has a certain bent or way that they are made.
- 5:21We often refer to this to their personality.
- 5:24Tea. And what it's saying is, trained
- 5:26them up in that way. If you train them up in that
- 5:30way, that's the way they will go.
- 5:33Now you can use that training to hurt your child.
- 5:37You can use the training to bless your child but whatever
- 5:40personality or way that they go encourage that train them up.
- 5:44And that way, another song that sort of says it like it goes
- 5:47along with it is children are like arrows and the hands of a
- 5:52mighty man, you know, and you Pull the arrow back and you
- 5:55shoot it and there it's gone. You know, you are trying to aim
- 6:01that direction that they're going.
- 6:03Okay. So it's the first thing you have
- 6:06to understand and training your child is paying attention to
- 6:12them and learning what their way is.
- 6:17What is their little hottie like A good illustration of this.
- 6:21John I can recommend Brody a little bit if he's doing
- 6:24something wrong and he'll just stand there.
- 6:26And look at me Hudson's the same way.
- 6:28He's a lot like me. If I reprimand him or if I do
- 6:31something, tell him he's wrong. They know they did wrong.
- 6:33They just sit there with Jade. And some guys are like this too,
- 6:36it's not just because JJ's my daughter if I raise my voice or
- 6:41if I say you shouldn't have done that, you know, in the wrong
- 6:44tone, she'll break down in tears and run to her room who
- 6:49different way. Ways.
- 6:51I'm saying the same thing. You shouldn't do that.
- 6:54You shouldn't do that birdies at.
- 6:56All right? Dad.
- 6:57You're right Jade. She's hurt her.
- 7:01Her life is broken in that moment.
- 7:03And so for me I've got to understand as a parent, how I
- 7:07respond to the situations. Maybe, I don't realize my voice.
- 7:10It Jade, maybe we have a conversation about those things.
- 7:12Birdie understands she just thinks I'm getting mad at her
- 7:15and so it is the way that they are.
- 7:17It is their personality like you said and it's uh, Straining.
- 7:20Their emotions and who they are. Sometimes you may say it to blue
- 7:24in the face. I don't understand until you got
- 7:25to change the approach of how we parent, how we discipline and in
- 7:29certain areas. Well, it's and again, it's
- 7:32understanding that they have different personalities and
- 7:34working with them where they're at and even that even changes as
- 7:38they get older as well. And so that's the idea that's
- 7:41coming across as not a promise. It's not saying this is saying
- 7:44that, you know, you're going to your it's really along the same
- 7:47lines. Is that other verses like
- 7:49they're an arrow? You're sending them out, you're
- 7:51aiming that. And what direction are you going
- 7:54to aim it in and that kind of thing through for any of our
- 7:57Mandalorian fans out there. The David did get this or
- 8:02Solomon, got this this thought of this is the way from the
- 8:05Mandalorian just is the way this is the way.
- 8:09All right, so we're going to continue on with some of these
- 8:11these notes that we have for this discussion on parenting.
- 8:17You know, we talked about these these formulas a lot of times
- 8:21when failure does happen within the home, a lot of these places,
- 8:24they the failure is blamed on a failure to follow their formula
- 8:28or keep their lawn. Which we sort of said, last time
- 8:31is very much like this. Well, name it claim.
- 8:33It health, wealth Prosperity Gospel.
- 8:35If you failed, it's your fault, not our fault.
- 8:38But in James mentioned, I think the last time.
- 8:41What about Judas? But also what about Kane?
- 8:45If they're fat formula, was it there then?
- 8:47You know what, kind of how perfect was things when Cain was
- 8:51around. All right, God was the one who
- 8:53had struck to him and admonished him And what did he do?
- 8:57He went out and murdered his brother.
- 9:00You know, are we saying that God just totally failed to formula?
- 9:05Yeah, and I like how Jim put it here.
- 9:08He said he made a statement that said this following, these
- 9:11formulas and advocating, a certain formula, put you in what
- 9:15he could cause parental determinant determinant of
- 9:18determinism. While I was a hard word to get
- 9:21out, where it's basically just a belief that, how well you follow
- 9:25this formula, is how your kids are going to turn out and it
- 9:28what does John what does this turn into what, where does all
- 9:31the responsibility and blame put out?
- 9:36Don't you it's all focused on me.
- 9:39Okay me myself and I I didn't follow the formula know, I
- 9:42didn't do this. I didn't all of a sudden you are
- 9:46the ultimate soul of authority and everything that happens
- 9:50which ality one of the what we said was last week God's
- 9:54sovereignty in those children and allowing them to make that
- 9:59that choice to follow him or not.
- 10:01It falls back on that child to make decisions parents.
- 10:03Yes, you have to have the you have to raise your kids, right?
- 10:06You have to do what is right but it does not fall.
- 10:09All responsibilities not fall directly on you based on how
- 10:11your kids turn out. Well, it and take that to the
- 10:14off the other ends. Like what happens if they do
- 10:18turn out, right? It, you think that it was on
- 10:21you, it develops, right? So million copies about how
- 10:25great your parenting was exactly.
- 10:27Very yeah, exactly. This formula, I did it.
- 10:30Look at my kids, had seven only all serve the Lord.
- 10:33Now look at me. Look at me.
- 10:36Yeah, and it's not about that we're supposed to be.
- 10:39Well yeah, we're supposed to be pointing to Christ in the gospel
- 10:42and to God, moralistic formulas can.
- 10:45Also create kids who are Pharisees with the outside of
- 10:49the cup looking clean while the inside of the cup remains
- 10:52filthy, you know, I think this can get to the point where a lot
- 10:57of people say, you know, James, you talked about this parents
- 11:02that it will say, we did this. We did this, we did this and
- 11:04they were such a great kid and then, They become an adult and
- 11:07they do something and it's like where did that come from?
- 11:11I just don't understand. They were always such a good kid
- 11:15and what was it? What was going on?
- 11:17The outside of the cup was clean?
- 11:19While the inside the heart was was black.
- 11:23And filthy least Fitzpatrick said this obedience which isn't
- 11:27motivated by love for God and His grace is dangerous.
- 11:34And so we got to be very young guard that we're not cultivating
- 11:39pharisaic 'l children and a fair cycle mindset in our home with
- 11:44that one of the things John in. Notice in Israel, I got a
- 11:51picture of it somewhere. I may have mentioned it a couple
- 11:53weeks ago was when we were riding in Jerusalem there, on
- 11:57the mountain side of the Mount of Olives and beside the Eastern
- 12:02Gate. There there is a massive great
- 12:04Regard the dates back prior to even Jesus's death when he was
- 12:08here. So those those grapes would have
- 12:09been there. It's the most famous graveside
- 12:13in all of the world people. Royalty pay to get buried there
- 12:18and all the tombs are above ground.
- 12:20They're not underground. Like we're used to.
- 12:23And the guy was telling us the history about it and as we're
- 12:25riding around, when the guys point out, he said guys look
- 12:28over there. He said all those tombs, they
- 12:31keep them in Immaculate to awesome, they're white.
- 12:34They're clean. They're perfect condition.
- 12:36He said the people inside her disgusting, they're dead,
- 12:39they're just dead men's bones. He said, it makes me wonder is
- 12:43Jesus pointing to those grades over there and say and
- 12:46Pharisees. You're like those whitewashed
- 12:48tombs, you've kept them perfectly clean on the outside
- 12:51so everyone thinks how perfect they are.
- 12:53But on the inside you're dead men's bones and it really
- 12:56brought that image to life. Because that would have very
- 12:58likely been where Jesus was pointing to when he was teaching
- 13:01that. And this is this whole thing
- 13:04though, this, Paris equal parenting because you begin to
- 13:06say look how perfect my kids are.
- 13:09When in reality, they're sinful human beings like all of us are
- 13:12and they're putting on this facade.
- 13:14Just so parents are okay with it.
- 13:17Which brings us to this point. Parenting is not about following
- 13:23the right book, The Right teacher, the right method or the
- 13:28right formula, it's about the gospel.
- 13:32Hmm, parenting is about the gospel.
- 13:35And so what we want to be concerned about as parenting,
- 13:39the gospel with our children and understanding this.
- 13:45Can we save our kids? Absolutely not.
- 13:50If we can't save our kids, then who are?
- 13:52We then depended upon to save our kids The one and only Jesus
- 13:57Christ son? Yeah yeah.
- 13:58And so then we depend upon him. So therefore, we are dependent
- 14:02upon his grace on our children, which causes us to go to him
- 14:08more, and be more dependent upon him and to seek his grace, as we
- 14:13are working with our children in the hard days and the good days
- 14:17and the easy days and in the days that just break our heart
- 14:21that we are searching to God and we are leaning on God and His
- 14:26grace and not that, we've done the right thing or checking the
- 14:29checklist that we did this in our parenting day, they cannot
- 14:33be saved by our works and get this.
- 14:37They cannot be saved by their works either and they need to
- 14:41understand that Yeah. And when they understand they
- 14:47that's when they begin to understand.
- 14:49They need a savior when they begin to understand that their
- 14:52own Good Deeds can't save themselves.
- 14:55So John parenting is more about God than you or your own kids.
- 15:00This is from Leslie late Leonard.
- 15:04Leyland parenting is your highest calling and eight other
- 15:09myth that trap us in to worry and guilt.
- 15:12And so we're going to give you seven thought Let's hear from
- 15:14this that Jim lays out for us and then we'll give you two
- 15:17concluding statements John. The first one is parenting is
- 15:20about fulfilling God's purposes. Not our agenda, give us some
- 15:26thought on that. Well it's about.
- 15:29And what do you need to know in order to know God's purposes?
- 15:33Well, first of all you need to know God.
- 15:35And this is why I think coming back to a theology proper and
- 15:38knowing a Theology of God is so important for every Christian,
- 15:43but then on top, Of that. Knowing God's purposes is about
- 15:47knowing god knowing God's word. And so knowing what God in, you
- 15:51know, desires of his people. But when it comes down to it,
- 15:56it's not a duty that we're supposed to be working at doing
- 16:01all these things. It's a relationship that we do
- 16:05these things out of love. We live in obedience, out of
- 16:11love, not out of this idea of that we're going to Be pleasing
- 16:16more pleasing to God or get more blessing from God or God will
- 16:19think better of us. Listen to happened at the cross
- 16:24and so filling God's purposes must be born from a heart.
- 16:29Of love for God. And we only strengthen our love
- 16:33for God. When we truly know who God is,
- 16:37Yeah, well, which leads us right into the next one.
- 16:39I'm putting God first frees us to better love our children.
- 16:42We loved God. We're going to love others.
- 16:45Okay. How are they going?
- 16:46How are people going to know? How is the world going to know
- 16:48that? We are Disciples of Jesus by our
- 16:51love for one another. And if we are col only consumed
- 16:55about, am I doing again? Well, I said the beginning of
- 16:59last week. X.
- 17:01Y&z should equal this area. Okay.
- 17:04If I'm only consumed about a formula, I'm only consume.
- 17:07Making sure these certain Seven, Things Are Done, Right?
- 17:11All of a sudden, that's what I'm going to be consumed in my kids
- 17:13are never going to know the love that I have for them.
- 17:16And I love my kids more than anything in the entire world.
- 17:19And so if I am only consumed with some man-made formula or
- 17:24some man-made ideology, my kids will never see the love that I
- 17:28have for them. And so we put God first and then
- 17:32we love our kids as Christ loves us and we emulate that we should
- 17:36show them. That we love them
- 17:39unconditionally. They make mistakes.
- 17:41We make mistakes, we love them. We talk them through it.
- 17:43We were there for them. We love them through it.
- 17:47Okay, we look at Peter. When Peter denied, Jesus, Peter
- 17:51left went back to fishing. He went back to his own ways.
- 17:55And what did Jesus do? He came back, he said on the
- 17:58seashore and he said, Peter, do you love me, Peter?
- 18:02Do you love me? Peter, do you love me?
- 18:07Come back to me, come by, I love you as well, come back and
- 18:10experience the grace that only I can give the Forgiveness that I
- 18:13can give you. And when we begin to parent that
- 18:16way, we begin to show that forgiveness and to show love
- 18:20towards our kids, we begin to see a holy great work of God in
- 18:24our lives. Next, God's parents godparents
- 18:30us for Holiness, not happiness, but James, I can't begin to tell
- 18:35you how many times I think people get into things and life
- 18:39because they think that it's about them being happy or even
- 18:43they think that their relationship with God is about
- 18:45them being happy. I read somewhere somebody's put
- 18:49on their their statement about beliefs and they said.
- 18:52Number one, we believe that the purpose for for, man, for all
- 18:56All everybody is to be happy. That is not that almost burden.
- 19:02The chief end of man is what to glorify God and enjoy him
- 19:07forever. It's right.
- 19:09And so if you think you're going into marriage, To be happy,
- 19:14you're going to the purpose of your marriage is for your
- 19:17happiness. You're going to be wildly
- 19:19disappointed because it's not. It's to glorify God and the same
- 19:23thing with your parenting. If you think that the reason for
- 19:26having children is so that'll make you more fulfilled and you
- 19:30more happy, you are going to come to Pieces because it will
- 19:36not That is just setting up another Idol for you to Worship
- 19:41in your heart. That will ultimately disappoint.
- 19:43You, the ultimate purpose is to glorify God and that he wants us
- 19:50to parent for Holiness not happiness.
- 19:55Yeah, this next one is the one that gets me even to this day.
- 20:00John, I this is the one that I struggle with deep absolute
- 20:05Motion in my parenting because I am, as I said last week, and
- 20:08I'll say it again, this week, I am a guy who is numbers and
- 20:13formula math driven. I-i'm just that's just the way
- 20:17God hardwired me, okay? And so, I love the show The
- 20:20Profit. I love watching, Marcus Lemonis
- 20:22and he'll come in and he'll correct.
- 20:25The Cess to make the product great.
- 20:27And I love watching that side of it and so when I evaluate my
- 20:31parenting, I want to go through it.
- 20:33I want to do the opposite of this because parenting is more
- 20:35about people than it is the process.
- 20:38And so often we get focused on the process and forget about the
- 20:44people and we begin to focus on the nuts and bolts.
- 20:51I guess you could say of what to do and how to do it and doing it
- 20:54the right way, which I'm not saying Shouldn't do it the right
- 20:56way. I'm not saying you shouldn't do
- 20:58things decently and in order. But what I'm saying is, when
- 21:00we're only focusing on the process, we lose sight of the
- 21:04people that are right there in front of us, we lose we get, we
- 21:08get this mindset and it happens. A lot of them in business
- 21:11culture where everyone is just a number.
- 21:14Hey, I'm just number seven. I had a guy that I remember the
- 21:18motion just a couple weeks ago. He said I work for XPO Logistics
- 21:22and he said no one knows my name.
- 21:24He said I'm Number 05, 07 6. He said, when I go, and I check
- 21:30in, I don't say, Dan offered here to get his shipment.
- 21:33I say, 05 07. 6 is here to get my shipment, they'll look at me
- 21:37and say, all right, XP 0, 0, 5 0. 76 your shipments out.
- 21:41On number seven. He said, I am just a number to
- 21:43them and too often our kids can become a number, and it's just a
- 21:48process when they are people. They are there people that God
- 21:53sent his son to die for. For that.
- 21:55He has shown them the grace that only he can give.
- 21:58And yet we treat him as a process.
- 22:00Instead of a person, God calls us to be faithful.
- 22:09Not successful. And I think this is a big thing
- 22:13in Christendom altogether is how we're defining success.
- 22:17How are we defining success as measurable numerical metric, big
- 22:24size, you know, that's how the world defines success.
- 22:28God defines success in faithfulness and obedience.
- 22:33And so what? But the problem we don't like
- 22:37about that is that it's not measurable.
- 22:42We want to be able to gauge success by measuring it.
- 22:44Therefore, if we have this amount or this thing happening,
- 22:47or this thing going, then therefore we can say this is
- 22:50being successful, but that's not how God does it because God's
- 22:53measure of success is his faithfulness.
- 22:57Yeah. It's like, well how do we know
- 22:59we're being more successful today than we were yesterday?
- 23:03if we're doing the same thing and we're not seeing any
- 23:05different results, And it's like no, this is a marathon, this is
- 23:11a walk. And is his his gauge of success.
- 23:15What he's called us to do is to be faithful, you know, sometimes
- 23:22how we judge this by saying at the end of our life, well done,
- 23:26well done thou good and faithful servant and he determines at the
- 23:30end and he determines it. Not us.
- 23:32Yeah that's that's why I think some parents probably need to
- 23:37hear. Like, you know, you need to
- 23:39chunk the formula. Just spend some time having fun
- 23:43with your kids. Yeah, just let like, and and
- 23:48forget the, the, on the time limit.
- 23:50Just just, just enjoy them and have fun with them.
- 23:55And see that they're having fun, too.
- 23:58We must really learn anything. Go ahead, the one of the
- 24:02greatest things, right now, John we're building a deck on the
- 24:04back of the house and, you know, we're taking up the old deck
- 24:08down, put a new one up, bigger better deck and the other day.
- 24:12Right before we had started, we were digging some holes and
- 24:15getting Things ready and Brody Camp to me that night and he
- 24:18said dad, he said can I help you build the deck tomorrow when
- 24:21you're out there you know my response was absolutely not.
- 24:24You're not a man yet? No I said absolutely son.
- 24:28Let's get out there, get you a hammer, get your drill get, get
- 24:31a level. Let's go have some fun, let's
- 24:33beat some boards together and see what happens.
- 24:36And when his face lit up when I said, let's just go hang out and
- 24:39have some fun building it because he just wants to spend
- 24:41time with that. Yeah, building a bomb Park doing
- 24:44things together. Loving life together.
- 24:47We must John Dee. As you were saying, we must rely
- 24:50upon God, rather than the formulas.
- 24:53And then the last thing John, before we give our concluding
- 24:55thoughts, our ultimate hope is in God, not our kids.
- 25:02Please, please please. Please.
- 25:04Please do not allow your children to set up as an idol in
- 25:08your heart. Yeah, do not worship at the
- 25:11Dollar Tree of your children, do not make your children that they
- 25:14place where you worship. So many times, we take a love
- 25:22and joy of our kids to an unhealthy place when we set them
- 25:26up in the place of God. And and Dethrone your children
- 25:32as that place of idolatry and go back to worshipping God.
- 25:36Place your hope in God, not whether your kids are going to
- 25:40turn out the way that you've deemed as good or, right?
- 25:43Or as a reflection on your parenting, on how they turn out.
- 25:48Okay, put your hope in God. Yeah, last two thoughts, John
- 25:54and we'll finish up today and thank you guys for listening and
- 25:56being a part of this episode. The first is, this gospel
- 26:00parenting isn't just another formula.
- 26:04Once you understand that that it's not okay, the gospel
- 26:07parenting is another formula that I'm going to add to my
- 26:09toolbox. It is the only way we can pair
- 26:13it, our kids is by adding the gospel to our parenting and
- 26:18making the gospel, the Center focus of everything we do.
- 26:22In our life as a parent of the born-again believer of Jesus
- 26:26Christ. And so the awesome.
- 26:28Apparently, there's more than that.
- 26:30It is the only way, and John Dada cookie cutter way to do it.
- 26:34Oh, there's not a cookie cutter way to do it.
- 26:38You know, you can get some good tips here.
- 26:40You can get some good tips there.
- 26:42You know, will recommend a book for you will recommend a couple
- 26:46of resources for you, but those aren't going to offer you this
- 26:49Surefire. One, two, three steps.
- 26:51It's of you do this with your kids and they'll do this, okay?
- 26:55It's going to help you arrange your thoughts and your heart in
- 26:58a way that you can just love your kids and lead them and
- 27:03guide them to Jesus. And then the last thing John,
- 27:09God is teaching us to graciously.
- 27:11Love our sinful children, just as he loves us.
- 27:14God showed us Grace God, commendeth his love toward us in
- 27:18that while we were what yet. Sinners Christ died for us.
- 27:24Anyways. Yeah.
- 27:27Yeah. And sorry, we need to show that
- 27:30love to our kids and then point them to Christ, you know, And
- 27:36and, and that's what it's about. It's about bringing the gospel
- 27:39to our children. It's right.
- 27:42It's good. Johnny closing thoughts.
- 27:45Well intercept. Today again the the just so you
- 27:49know, we didn't say this last time but this book by new
- 27:52Heiser, but Jim new Kaiser is about 75 pages.
- 27:56I mean it's a short book, it's a small book and it's about 75
- 27:59Pages. This worth your time, reading
- 28:00that I want to recommend one that I really enjoyed again.
- 28:05I actually picked it up looking for a formula, and whenever I
- 28:08read it, I was like, this is not giving me the formula.
- 28:11Ah, but it was changing me like so much and I thought it was
- 28:14fantastic. It's simply called parenting. 12
- 28:18gospel principles for raising your children by Paul David
- 28:22trip. All right, and it is fantastic
- 28:25at rearranging. Your, your, your mentality and
- 28:29your heart towards gospel-centered parenting.
- 28:32And so I highly recommend that resource when it comes to
- 28:36Parenting. There's one by Elites Drink for
- 28:41mothers called give them Grace and I will try to link both of
- 28:45those in the show notes. But those are two great books
- 28:49for that. And then next week, James, tell
- 28:51him about next week. Next week, we've got a returning
- 28:54guest shot on parole and he is. I did a solo up.
- 28:59So with him last year, John was out of the out of the town or
- 29:03something. I can't remember what happened.
- 29:04He wasn't able to be on here. So Lord willin.
- 29:06We're going to have him on here as a guest, and we're going to
- 29:10be talking about Helping her teen children.
- 29:13He did a seminar teaching lesson 2 years ago in Charlotte at a
- 29:17CBC conference. And I have used these notes to
- 29:21help other pastors to help parents.
- 29:24I don't know how many times since I've heard it so it has
- 29:26been a blessing to me. And so I reached out to him and
- 29:29his secretary about getting him lined up.
- 29:32And so we have him lined up to record and we're going to walk
- 29:35through those notes have him. Give some specifics on some
- 29:38areas. It's a case study that he's
- 29:40actually Currently been counseling.
- 29:42I don't know if he still is, but at the time two years ago, he
- 29:45was a young girl and some helps that he can give us if we've got
- 29:50hurting kids or how we can actually help kids that have
- 29:55been hurt. He gives the through some, some
- 29:57main areas of how to identify these things.
- 29:59So I'm looking forward to it. I love Sean's material.
- 30:02I love listening to him. He's a great wise man, much.
- 30:07He's wise Beyond his years. I think we're the same age, me
- 30:09and John and him were all the same.
- 30:11Aah. But I feel like he's just so
- 30:12much more wise than I am, which doesn't take a lot, but he's a
- 30:17great, great tool and asset for my Ministry that I've really
- 30:21enjoyed learning and leaning from him.
- 30:24So that's what we're looking at next week.
- 30:26Awesome. Awesome.
- 30:27And so we thank you guys for listening and and if you got any
- 30:32questions or comments just reach out to us but we'll be moving
- 30:37on. I think in April were also going
- 30:38to try to tackle The subject of anxiety.
- 30:42So we're very excited about that but until then to God be the
- 30:47glory Sola Deo Gloria. That good grace.
- 30:54Found that healing. And the tears fell down my face
- 30:58when I found my beginning has no way.
