- 0:48Speaker 1: years strong. Got a great show coming your way this week.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren here of my buddy Eric Leonard Bender
- 0:55Speaker 1: known as Jackson. How are you, buddy boy?
- 0:58Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 0:58Speaker 1: I'm doing all right, man, I'm doing all right. Look,
- 1:00Speaker 1: I you know, we're gonna certainly be getting into the
- 1:02Speaker 1: Phillies here. We're gonna be getting into some Sixers talk
- 1:05Speaker 1: as well, some Eagles talk on this show. But man,
- 1:08Speaker 1: I'm still like, I'm still so bummed about this Phillies
- 1:11Speaker 1: freaking team. But I mean, we're gonna get it. We're
- 1:13Speaker 1: gonna get into it in a bit. Look, I know,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I'm like all over the place right off the bat
- 1:17Speaker 1: here you and I were looking at concerts to go to.
- 1:19Speaker 1: There's some good death metal stuff coming around.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Whitechapel. Yes, who else do we talk about? Death Angel?
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yes? I know, I'm all over the place here. So
- 1:30Speaker 1: we're recording this on Wednesday.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I guarantee this audience is like, oh cool, nice, Yes,
- 1:36Speaker 3: Hi Simon pretty much yet.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Probably Yes, our good friend from Australia has been listening
- 1:41Speaker 1: to us for like twelve years that we've been doing.
- 1:43Speaker 3: The only guy I can think of it be into this.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yes, talk, my gosh, we got to get to a show.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I'm serious. I'm tired of being so busy all the time.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm running my kids all around. I mean, I'm doing
- 1:54Speaker 1: dad stuff, right, I'm doing dad stuff that I need
- 1:56Speaker 1: to be doing. But man, I just want to go
- 1:58Speaker 1: to a show. I just want to see some live music.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I can't wait till this election's over. Like I just said,
- 2:03Speaker 1: I'm all over the place here, I really am. Yeah.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Okay, So I shipped a kid off to college a
- 2:09Speaker 3: few months ago, two months whatever it was, and I
- 2:12Speaker 3: thought like everything would like slow down. But my son's
- 2:15Speaker 3: sports schedule and everything else, and now he has friends, yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 3: and he can hate. I'm driving around more than I
- 2:21Speaker 3: ever did. But then I realized, like, my daughter had
- 2:23Speaker 3: my car for a year there take care of her.
- 2:26Speaker 3: So and plus we're dealing with old parents. We talked
- 2:29Speaker 3: about that for the show. That's That's fun. It was
- 2:33Speaker 3: fun for guys trying to raise a family and deal
- 2:36Speaker 3: with deal with our elderly parents.
- 2:39Speaker 1: The children parents, yes, yeah, their children, Yes, they are the.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Kind of Art's like I can't get the thing from
- 2:48Speaker 3: the top shelf. Can you take me to the doctor?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Then tis like, oh my god, my cheery house.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah, when I was eight, I was like, I can't
- 2:57Speaker 3: reach that. Can I take me to the doctor. It's
- 2:59Speaker 3: it's all reverse.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So well, we're gonna be getting together this Saturday. It's
- 3:03Speaker 1: gonna be cool to hang out. You got your fantasy
- 3:05Speaker 1: basketball draft right around the corner here, man, I right
- 3:09Speaker 1: at your house. I can't wait. It's gonna be a
- 3:11Speaker 1: great time. Hopefully I won't draft Joel Embiid again in
- 3:14Speaker 1: the second round.
- 3:15Speaker 3: We just saved for the show. I can't wait whoever
- 3:17Speaker 3: takes him, because we're all gonna laugh. It's just gonna be.
- 3:21Speaker 3: He's ranked like we talked about, He's rank like fifty
- 3:24Speaker 3: to fifty five. Oh gosh in the fantasy rankings. Oh my,
- 3:27Speaker 3: it's gotta be a Lewis since he's a rookie. It's
- 3:29Speaker 3: so bad. But this will make you happy.
- 3:32Speaker 1: You know what.
- 3:32Speaker 3: I'm making me my famous bacon blue cheeseburgers.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Oh yes, I know, four, Yeah, make me four of them.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I'm gonna make like twenty paddies because I know you guys.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yes, a bunch of animals. There's a meat around, I
- 3:49Speaker 1: go crazy.
- 3:51Speaker 3: There's bacon in there and cheese.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Oh my god. Ah, it's gonna be a fun time.
- 4:00Speaker 1: It's gonna be great. I can't. Hopefully I have a
- 4:02Speaker 1: better team than I did last year. I'm not kidding
- 4:04Speaker 1: that that that pick, that Joe ellenb pick of mine.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I think it was the second round, it was second
- 4:10Speaker 1: or third round. That was a killer man, that like
- 4:12Speaker 1: killed me.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Who'd you pick in the first round? I think it
- 4:14Speaker 3: wasn't great Haliburton, Yeah yeah, okay, but he missed like
- 4:18Speaker 3: twenty games did yes, yeah, and then you follow it
- 4:22Speaker 3: up with him be barely yeah, yeah, a rough one.
- 4:24Speaker 1: It was terrible. It's the reason why I was at
- 4:26Speaker 1: the bottom of the barrel.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Don't take Haliburton this year. I'm telling you right now.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Okay, thank you.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Toy's Achilles in the final.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Oh that's right. Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 3: So I thought I was making a joke. I should
- 4:38Speaker 3: have said anything.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I completely forgot.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I would have I would have like put him up
- 4:44Speaker 3: in the top ten, like somehow you'd be like, oh.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I still got to do some research here, Okay, I'm
- 4:52Speaker 1: still on still on this. You know this downslide here
- 4:56Speaker 1: with the Phillies. So you know, why don't we why
- 4:57Speaker 1: don't we get into it here? Let's first get into
- 5:00Speaker 1: some listener feedback that we got this week from one
- 5:03Speaker 1: of our longtime listeners, Francis here. He uh, he was
- 5:07Speaker 1: a bit enraged by the by the Phillies, and the
- 5:10Speaker 1: subject of his email to us here Philadelphia Sports Table
- 5:14Speaker 1: at gmail dot com, by the way, was four fucking
- 5:17Speaker 1: hits and he spelled fucking with pH said.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I read this like four times.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I know it's a great one. It's a great email,
- 5:24Speaker 1: it really is. He just started. He doesn't even start
- 5:26Speaker 1: off greeting us. He usually greets us, you know, you know, no,
- 5:31Speaker 1: no time for that. He just said, same shit, different postseason.
- 5:36Speaker 1: What will our position players do this offseason to improve
- 5:38Speaker 1: their plate discipline? Nothing like they do every postseason. Maybe
- 5:44Speaker 1: blame the fans a bit. I like that one made.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I love that he didn't even put an exclamation point
- 5:50Speaker 3: for nothing exactly, nothing nothing exactly.
- 5:55Speaker 1: We can't truly pay Ranger and Schwerber, but need both
- 5:59Speaker 1: only hope that maybe Rangers' injury history dissuades other suitors,
- 6:03Speaker 1: Maybe Kyle rejects a higher team's offer for something familiar
- 6:08Speaker 1: and then in quotes, I get paid to hit Baseball's
- 6:12Speaker 1: Nick Castiano's fucking JIBBRONI what what a waste? I hate everything.
- 6:19Speaker 1: That's probably my favorite line. I hate everything and that.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But he does actually say thanks for doing the pod
- 6:25Speaker 1: as always Francis, So thanks Francis. We appreciated the email.
- 6:29Speaker 1: This is a good one to read through. It really was,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and he's not wrong. He's not wrong with this stuff too.
- 6:36Speaker 1: For fucking hits.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Come on, I love Jabroni. I would have went Hamm
- 6:40Speaker 3: and ager, but that's my own personal preference. Jabbroni is
- 6:44Speaker 3: very fitting because Castianos is kind of a meathead. So
- 6:48Speaker 3: I have no arguments. Yes, a will proof, you know
- 6:52Speaker 3: those tables like prove me wrong or whatever. You can't
- 6:55Speaker 3: you hit every every bullet point, Francis, So thank you.
- 6:59Speaker 1: You know I got I got into it on the
- 7:01Speaker 1: table talk show this week with our friend John Jansen
- 7:04Speaker 1: from Fox Sports Phillies The Gambler, and we were talking
- 7:07Speaker 1: about the Phillies what the off season may look like,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and you know, we Eric, we still haven't talked about this,
- 7:13Speaker 1: but at the end of the day, I actually as
- 7:16Speaker 1: terrible as a flub and blunder as it was from
- 7:20Speaker 1: Arian Kirkering. It really does come down to what Francis
- 7:23Speaker 1: was just saying, only four fucking hits, Like it comes
- 7:26Speaker 1: down to your top guys on this team not coming
- 7:30Speaker 1: through during the postseason, Schwarber, Harper and Turner, And you know,
- 7:35Speaker 1: it's a good segue into you know what we're going
- 7:38Speaker 1: to see this coming off season from this team. Look,
- 7:41Speaker 1: Rob Thompson, we know he's coming back, it's official, but
- 7:45Speaker 1: there absolutely need to be changes to this Phillies team
- 7:48Speaker 1: next year, and like what should those changes be. There's
- 7:52Speaker 1: so many rumors floating around and a lot of folks
- 7:55Speaker 1: like us are dissecting what it could be and what
- 7:58Speaker 1: type of team we are going to see. Could actually
- 8:00Speaker 1: see Trey Turner, like I was talking to John Jansen
- 8:04Speaker 1: on the Table Talk interview show go back and listen
- 8:06Speaker 1: to it. I could see them trying to move Trey
- 8:08Speaker 1: Turner to get that contract off the books. I can
- 8:12Speaker 1: also see Bryson Stott not being around, Alec Boem not
- 8:15Speaker 1: being around. You know, we could have an entire new outfield.
- 8:19Speaker 1: What's gonna happen with Ranger and Kyle Schwarber and maybe
- 8:22Speaker 1: maybe we start there because you're talking about big contracts
- 8:25Speaker 1: that need to be signed or that fans want to
- 8:27Speaker 1: be signed. I think I think they're gonna try to
- 8:30Speaker 1: really bring Schwarber back, and I think they're gonna let
- 8:33Speaker 1: Ranger walk because I think Ranger is gonna be way,
- 8:35Speaker 1: way too expensive. That's just my initial gut reaction. What
- 8:38Speaker 1: are your thoughts with regard to those two guys there,
- 8:41Speaker 1: Because at the end of the day, like I think,
- 8:43Speaker 1: like the money the Phillies are gonna want to spend,
- 8:46Speaker 1: it's gonna be one or the other.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I mean, okay, there's so many there's so many options here. Yeah, right,
- 8:55Speaker 3: is your question specifically specifically about Schwarber and Ranger?
- 9:00Speaker 1: Yes, why don't we get into them first, like the
- 9:02Speaker 1: big type of resign, like a big type of resign.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Should they resign Ranger or Schwarber? Because I'm feeling at
- 9:11Speaker 1: this point that from a financial standpoint, they're probably gonna
- 9:14Speaker 1: do one or the other.
- 9:16Speaker 3: This is gonna sound like blasphemy, but I would I
- 9:18Speaker 3: think keeping Rangers like the bigger deal.
- 9:21Speaker 1: All right.
- 9:22Speaker 3: It's just I Schwarber was amazing last year, but he
- 9:26Speaker 3: does play a position where I think you could moneyball
- 9:28Speaker 3: a little bit and bring somebody in or even promote
- 9:33Speaker 3: somebody to that or move them to that position where
- 9:35Speaker 3: you can get like seventy to seventy five percent of
- 9:38Speaker 3: what Shoorber did last year.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Schwarber is gonna be thirty three. Next year, it's.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Gonna be thirty three. And I think, if you, if you,
- 9:47Speaker 3: if you offered him a four year contract with heavy
- 9:51Speaker 3: on the money, obviously because it's only four years, and
- 9:54Speaker 3: he accepts that, awesome, that I go ahead and go
- 9:57Speaker 3: ahead and run with that. But if he demands five
- 10:00Speaker 3: or six more, I think I would let him walk, yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 3: and put and put my attention on to Rangers Suarez
- 10:05Speaker 3: because I'm seeing I'm bringing I have up the list
- 10:10Speaker 3: of of free agents for for next year, and the
- 10:16Speaker 3: top four pitchers or Chris Sale who's thirty seven years old, Okay,
- 10:20Speaker 3: Dylan Cee is thirty years old, Franbervaldez thirty two, who
- 10:24Speaker 3: gets hurt a lot, and then Suarez is the fourth
- 10:27Speaker 3: ranked one with a seven point five war He's only
- 10:30Speaker 3: thirty years old. The way he pitches doesn't matter if
- 10:33Speaker 3: he's thirty years old. I think he's actually the more important,
- 10:38Speaker 3: Okay player to keep out of the two because you
- 10:42Speaker 3: know that the Phillies were in those Dodgers games because
- 10:45Speaker 3: of the pitching, you know what I mean, Yeah, they
- 10:48Speaker 3: couldn't hit the damn ball. And I know letting Schwarbor
- 10:51Speaker 3: walk creates a concern there hitting wise, but I think
- 10:56Speaker 3: you have to maintain that solid pitching chord. You know,
- 10:59Speaker 3: if and Wheeler comes back next year, Sanchez comes back,
- 11:03Speaker 3: hopefully exactly, and if he doesn't come back and you
- 11:06Speaker 3: let Ranger walk, then you're screwed. And the amount of
- 11:08Speaker 3: fans from other teams I've seen saying go after Suarez,
- 11:12Speaker 3: go after Suarez, go after Like I saw an Astro's
- 11:15Speaker 3: account today on Twitter say he's the guy. To pinpoint,
- 11:17Speaker 3: I saw someone from the Diamondbacks, this is the guy
- 11:21Speaker 3: we should go after, And I'm just like, I think,
- 11:23Speaker 3: if you look at that list, he is probably higher.
- 11:26Speaker 3: The smart teams are probably looking at that going he's
- 11:29Speaker 3: the guy to pinpoint, like, he's only thirty, you have
- 11:32Speaker 3: another solid three to four years out of him as
- 11:35Speaker 3: a as a legit starter. Yeah, he gets some better
- 11:38Speaker 3: shape and you know, stays healthy. But I honestly, my
- 11:42Speaker 3: my thing is like and I'm I'm going to like
- 11:45Speaker 3: launch off of Francis's email. I think you'll let Shoreber
- 11:49Speaker 3: walk if it doesn't take the four year you focus
- 11:51Speaker 3: on Ranger. I think you go heavy, heavy, heavy after
- 11:56Speaker 3: the kid from Japan that everyone's talking about. Oh yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 3: Mirror Kami. He's twenty five, twenty six, just blasts home
- 12:05Speaker 3: run he had. He had a couple of home runs
- 12:07Speaker 3: against Team USA a couple of years back when they
- 12:09Speaker 3: played in the whatever those games were, and he was
- 12:12Speaker 3: so impressive. He plays third base. Yeah, there's your move
- 12:16Speaker 3: of Alec Bohm. You know, if you could get him,
- 12:18Speaker 3: and the Phillies are worried about money, you're gonna open
- 12:21Speaker 3: yourself up to a whole new marketing like Floodgate the market,
- 12:27Speaker 3: you know, I know the Dodgers are going to go
- 12:29Speaker 3: after him, Heavies, the sort of the Yankees. I think
- 12:31Speaker 3: the Phillies got a step and finally get step up
- 12:34Speaker 3: and finally get one of these guys, you know, like
- 12:36Speaker 3: when Otani came over, and you know, the Dodgers seemed
- 12:39Speaker 3: to get all of them. I think the Phillies really
- 12:41Speaker 3: got to enter that market, and not just again for
- 12:44Speaker 3: because he's so talented and you could fill fill in
- 12:47Speaker 3: a third base. But like like I said, if you
- 12:50Speaker 3: read Francis, there's two things. If read Francis his email,
- 12:53Speaker 3: there's gonna be a malaise here with the fan base
- 12:56Speaker 3: if you start to bring the same team back again
- 12:59Speaker 3: next year. Yeah, I know they'll be excited at first,
- 13:02Speaker 3: but I think they're going to start to be like,
- 13:04Speaker 3: we need to re energize this thing. And I think
- 13:06Speaker 3: bringing in someone like him and again financially opening up
- 13:09Speaker 3: that market to Asia, yeah, offset some of the costs
- 13:12Speaker 3: of that as well. Yeah, I think I think you
- 13:14Speaker 3: go after Suarez. I think you go after this kid,
- 13:19Speaker 3: and I think you go after Kyle Tucker. If you
- 13:21Speaker 3: can spend a month.
- 13:22Speaker 1: That's interesting, get see and these moves that you're talking about.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Is one of the reasons why I believe that they
- 13:29Speaker 1: may be in the market to trade Trey Turner, because look,
- 13:33Speaker 1: the Phillies have the sixth largest payroll commitment for next season.
- 13:37Speaker 1: It's one hundred and seventy point two million dollars total,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and then eight players under contract. Zach Wheeler's making forty
- 13:44Speaker 1: two million next year, Harper's twenty seven point five. Turner
- 13:48Speaker 1: is twenty seven point two. Okay, you've also got Taiwan
- 13:52Speaker 1: Walker's making eighteen, Castianus at twenty. I'm not going to
- 13:56Speaker 1: go through all of them, but if you're able to
- 13:58Speaker 1: move that twenty seven point two mil with Turner and
- 14:01Speaker 1: just that that huge contract he has basically until two
- 14:05Speaker 1: thousand and seventy eight, the year two thousand and seventy eight,
- 14:09Speaker 1: he's gonna be here for a long time. I think
- 14:12Speaker 1: it gives the Phillies some flexibility. Do I want to
- 14:15Speaker 1: lose Tray Turner necessarily No, but I'd like him to
- 14:18Speaker 1: have some flexibility to do some of the things you're
- 14:20Speaker 1: talking about.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and this might be blasphemous, especially considering Francis's email
- 14:26Speaker 3: as well. Maybe you keep Castianos around for that last
- 14:30Speaker 3: year of his contract and make him the DH if Shwoarward.
- 14:34Speaker 3: If Shwoarbard disappears, Yeah, he'd be in a contract year.
- 14:38Speaker 3: All he'd be asked to do is hit. You want
- 14:41Speaker 3: have to stick him with his awful glove out and
- 14:43Speaker 3: right field. If you got a guy like Tucker, he's
- 14:46Speaker 3: your right fielder. Now put Crawford in center field. God
- 14:50Speaker 3: knows what you do and left. Yeah, and then get
- 14:53Speaker 3: the kid from Japan, move Alec Baum and then, like
- 14:57Speaker 3: I said, may Castianos the DH that's like and re
- 15:01Speaker 3: assigned ranger. Like you come back with the same pitching,
- 15:04Speaker 3: same like same, pretty much the same pitching lineup as
- 15:07Speaker 3: last year. You kind of you have like a revitalized
- 15:11Speaker 3: batting order. Yeah, with what we did now, the problem
- 15:14Speaker 3: is we haven't mentioned real Muto yet. I don't know
- 15:16Speaker 3: what the hell to do with him because it's another
- 15:18Speaker 3: couple of mill Yeah, you got to say this guy.
- 15:21Speaker 3: I again, I'm okay if he walks, I know, he's
- 15:24Speaker 3: all they have at catcher. I feel like they're one
- 15:27Speaker 3: of the few teams in baseball that has no catching prospects. Yeah,
- 15:31Speaker 3: the team seems to have one guy. We have nothing.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Garrett Stubbs isn't going to do do it.
- 15:36Speaker 3: No, No, it's cute that he wears the overalls and
- 15:39Speaker 3: he drinks beer, but like he's not an everyday starter.
- 15:41Speaker 3: So they have a lot of they have some flexibility
- 15:45Speaker 3: with those contracts.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Man, the Aaron.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Nola contract, he's making twenty five next year and he's
- 15:52Speaker 3: signed through twenty thirty. Oh yeah, that's.
- 15:56Speaker 1: A rough one. He's going to be on the team.
- 15:58Speaker 1: He's going to be on the team. Yeah.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yeah, But again, if you can't get Schwarber re signed, Ranger,
- 16:03Speaker 3: go after the Japanese kid, and then you know, go
- 16:06Speaker 3: after Tucker and then go from there. You gotta do.
- 16:09Speaker 3: You have to have at least three spots in your
- 16:11Speaker 3: lineup that are completely different than last year. Yeah, to
- 16:15Speaker 3: again revitalize because you're you're you're tempting the fates of
- 16:19Speaker 3: having a board fan base.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Yes, God forbid.
- 16:23Speaker 3: You come in next year and you're like twenty and
- 16:26Speaker 3: twenty and seventeen the first like month and a half, Yeah,
- 16:30Speaker 3: and it looks like the same shit on the field,
- 16:32Speaker 3: and people are gonna be like, oh my god, Okay,
- 16:35Speaker 3: you're gonna start see attendance a little bit, you know
- 16:37Speaker 3: what I mean, Like they got they gotta do something different.
- 16:38Speaker 1: They do They've how many years if they tried it
- 16:41Speaker 1: with this crew, you know, and we are seeing these
- 16:44Speaker 1: same results. I have loved watching this crew, really, I
- 16:48Speaker 1: have loved watching it. First round By this year they
- 16:51Speaker 1: earned it during the regular season. It was a fun
- 16:53Speaker 1: regular season. Last year, First round By they earned it.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Last year it was I mean, they earned it kind
- 16:59Speaker 1: of by the skin of their teeth. September last year
- 17:02Speaker 1: was rough. But this crew has been fun to watch
- 17:06Speaker 1: in general. But they're not getting to the next level
- 17:09Speaker 1: where they need to be and where we expect them
- 17:12Speaker 1: as a fan base. They're not getting it done.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Like can I can I just read you real quick
- 17:17Speaker 3: that my idea of putting castianis in the DH if
- 17:20Speaker 3: if things work out the way they you know in
- 17:22Speaker 3: my head. So your your top DH your top designated
- 17:27Speaker 3: hitters in free agency this year, Schwar was number one,
- 17:31Speaker 3: Marcella Zuna is thirty five, Jack Peterson thirty four, McCutchen,
- 17:34Speaker 3: who's forty. Jesus he'll be forty next season.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah crap.
- 17:41Speaker 3: If you put Castianos in that list, he's probably number
- 17:44Speaker 3: two or three, right behind Ozuna, probably for the DH list,
- 17:49Speaker 3: I mean honestly, yeah, I know there's a huge swath
- 17:53Speaker 3: of our fan base who listens is like, shut the
- 17:56Speaker 3: fuck up exactly. We hate casting out. I've said on
- 17:59Speaker 3: the show. I don't hate him at all.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I know either do I.
- 18:03Speaker 3: But his thing was I want to play every day. Awesome,
- 18:09Speaker 3: you can play every day, You're just not gonna be
- 18:10Speaker 3: in the field. Yeah, all you focus on is hitting
- 18:13Speaker 3: you're gonna be a contract year you're like thirty years old.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I think it's actually a good spot for him in
- 18:17Speaker 3: the Phillies. If they did that, it's a good thought.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah. And if Shorber wants.
- 18:22Speaker 3: An exuber amount of money, I think that's what.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I think that's the We're going to get at least
- 18:25Speaker 1: thirty million a year, and that's like the thing, you know,
- 18:28Speaker 1: like it's I just don't know. I don't know would
- 18:33Speaker 1: he take four years one hundred and twenty when he
- 18:35Speaker 1: could probably get five and one seventy five somewhere else?
- 18:40Speaker 3: So I'm sure he could.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So I don't know. Oh man, Well, we're
- 18:44Speaker 1: gonna continue talking about this Phillies team and what it's
- 18:48Speaker 1: going to look like, decisions the front office is going
- 18:52Speaker 1: to be making as we continue to move along here
- 18:55Speaker 1: at the PST podcast Show in the future. So we
- 18:58Speaker 1: are going to take a break here and we're gonna
- 19:02Speaker 1: be back in just a bit. But first, like and
- 19:05Speaker 1: subscribe to us if you are on the socials out there,
- 19:10Speaker 1: specifically YouTube, like and subscribe, hit the bell to be
- 19:13Speaker 1: notified and we post new videos. And also you can
- 19:16Speaker 1: like our social sites as well. You can like us
- 19:20Speaker 1: out there and follow us and try to interact with
- 19:23Speaker 1: us if you want. If you're watching on YouTube, you
- 19:26Speaker 1: see the sites right here. We are on Instagram, Twitter,
- 19:29Speaker 1: slash x, I'm over on TikTok where we got Facebook threads,
- 19:35Speaker 1: Blue Sky. It's all there. So we're gonna take a break,
- 19:38Speaker 1: and when we come back, we're gonna be get into
- 19:40Speaker 1: some Sixers talk, not necessarily with the team itself, more
- 19:44Speaker 1: nostalgia that we're gonna be seeing this coming season. And
- 19:47Speaker 1: then we got a ton of Eagles talk because this
- 19:49Speaker 1: team has lost two in a row. Can they rebound
- 19:52Speaker 1: from this? So here's a break. We'll be back in
- 19:55Speaker 1: just a bit. All right, we are back, and Eric,
- 20:00Speaker 1: let's get into this. Phil, what's wrong?
- 20:03Speaker 3: Can you hear the crickets down here?
- 20:04Speaker 1: All the down there? But let me hear a little
- 20:09Speaker 1: tiny bit. I heard a little tiny bit.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Well, when when we went to break and it was
- 20:13Speaker 3: dead silent, all of a sudden, they all like a course.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Yeah, by the way, the that was perfect. Last week.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I had a horrendous joke, Oh the crickets, the crickets.
- 20:29Speaker 1: We went right to the crickets. We got to keep
- 20:32Speaker 1: them down there.
- 20:33Speaker 3: I should try and hurt them over this way, yes,
- 20:35Speaker 3: because they usually hang on this corner over here.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yes, didn't I say, you like, bring peanut butter over
- 20:39Speaker 1: so I don't even know if they eat peanut butter.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Yeah, we discussed that then, and then we're like, what
- 20:43Speaker 3: what the hell are they doing in society or not society,
- 20:45Speaker 3: but like uh out in nature, chain in nature nature. Yes, that's.
- 20:51Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Well, let's let's get into the Sixers because like, it's
- 20:55Speaker 1: interesting heading into this season what we are seeing the
- 21:00Speaker 1: Philadelphia seventy six Ers potentially doing. They're they're really I
- 21:05Speaker 1: think banking on some uh nostalgia, uh to keep fans
- 21:11Speaker 1: interested maybe uh you know, I do want to say
- 21:14Speaker 1: interacting perhaps like during games, because if you haven't heard
- 21:18Speaker 1: out there and if you're a Sixers fan, Sixers are
- 21:22Speaker 1: going to try to use a decent amount of nostalgia
- 21:24Speaker 1: this coming season, whether it's the old classic Alan Iverson
- 21:28Speaker 1: era black jerseys that they're gonna be wearing from time
- 21:30Speaker 1: to time. And then we heard this past week the
- 21:33Speaker 1: return of beloved mascot hip hop. He's going to be
- 21:37Speaker 1: making his return and he or she I'm not sure.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I'm not sure what hip hop is thought he thought
- 21:43Speaker 1: it was. I know, I know. Look, the marketing team
- 21:49Speaker 1: for the seventy six ers, they're, you know, they're working
- 21:52Speaker 1: on trying to keep certain segments of this fan base engaged.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I don't know if it's necessarily gonna work here, Eric,
- 21:58Speaker 1: but we're at a point with the Philadelphia seventy six
- 22:02Speaker 1: ers where they just were kind of grasping at straws here.
- 22:05Speaker 1: They need to keep the fan base engaged, and they're
- 22:08Speaker 1: gonna be using some nostalgia this year to get it done.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I do. I have to say, Like, I was like
- 22:13Speaker 1: when I saw the hip hop uh it was I
- 22:16Speaker 1: think I was on Instagram and I saw it. I
- 22:18Speaker 1: was like, WHOA, Like, this is gonna be interesting.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Do people forget that everyone hated hip hop? I was there,
- 22:29Speaker 3: all right, no one liked hip hop. It was this weird.
- 22:34Speaker 3: It was the Sixers weird, like, well, kids like rap music,
- 22:38Speaker 3: let's make hip hop right. It was just it was.
- 22:41Speaker 3: It sucked at the time. Now it's nostalgia. I think
- 22:44Speaker 3: it still sucks.
- 22:45Speaker 1: What are they gonna do with Franklin?
- 22:48Speaker 3: Franklin's nice, frank is a dog.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I know he's nice. What are they gonna do with
- 22:52Speaker 1: him when they are they gonna have both hip hop
- 22:54Speaker 1: and Franklin out at the same time. And what's the
- 22:56Speaker 1: dynamic gonna be?
- 22:57Speaker 3: Is Franklin gonna chase hip hop because it hip Papa Rabbit? Yes, No,
- 23:02Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 23:03Speaker 1: What about the.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Big fat bald thing they had?
- 23:06Speaker 1: What what's the sixers? Yeah?
- 23:10Speaker 3: Len sent us a picture of him the other day.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Derek Coleman. No, No, Lenwood never send a picture.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I know he does.
- 23:19Speaker 3: In two thousand and nine, folks, we were in Detroit,
- 23:21Speaker 3: Len and I and we we were at the Final
- 23:23Speaker 3: four and we went to this with this bar and
- 23:26Speaker 3: it was owned by Derek Coleman and he was in
- 23:28Speaker 3: there and all of us were going to shake his
- 23:30Speaker 3: hand and to meet him. And Len walked out of
- 23:33Speaker 3: the bar and stood up front and went out, Liken,
- 23:35Speaker 3: you want to go meet Derek Coleman, goes, I'll never
- 23:37Speaker 3: shake his hand. Bet which much time I wasted watching
- 23:43Speaker 3: him play basketball?
- 23:46Speaker 1: He refused to shake his hand.
- 23:48Speaker 3: This wouldn't even go back in the bar.
- 23:50Speaker 1: He stood out front.
- 23:54Speaker 3: One of my favorite Len moments.
- 23:55Speaker 1: It was great. It's great third degrees out here.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Other than talk to Derek Coleman. Fine, do you do that.
- 24:05Speaker 1: We saw, we saw we saw Derek. Didn't we see
- 24:07Speaker 1: Derek Coleman airball a free throw at a game?
- 24:09Speaker 3: Yes, it was the game, Yes, haven't I haven't seen
- 24:13Speaker 3: that from like a quote superstar maybe every Yeah, and
- 24:19Speaker 3: the place was just like like there's murmurs like what.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Yeah, like what the hell was that airball? The free throw?
- 24:25Speaker 1: What the hell?
- 24:26Speaker 3: How much does he make?
- 24:27Speaker 1: Yes?
- 24:29Speaker 3: A nostalgia, Yeah, hip hop is dumb. Of all the jerseys,
- 24:36Speaker 3: the Iverson era, the black Ones are like my least favorite,
- 24:39Speaker 3: I know, outside of like the mid nineties when they
- 24:42Speaker 3: were just the Charles, the Chuck Weathers or the Witherspoon. Yes,
- 24:47Speaker 3: Dana Barrows, like you know, pre Iverson. Those are the
- 24:50Speaker 3: worst ever. Those are horrendous. There's nothing sadder than Moses
- 24:53Speaker 3: Malone in his last year with the Sixers, with the
- 24:56Speaker 3: crappy Sixers. It's like just we need to just end this.
- 25:01Speaker 3: But I you know, I'm also almost fifty, so kids
- 25:06Speaker 3: younger than me to actually buy this shit, yeah probably
- 25:08Speaker 3: see that, like this is cool, My god, this is
- 25:10Speaker 3: like twenty some years ago.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Because I wore it and stuff.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah, and I and again I was there
- 25:15Speaker 3: for it and it was like my least favorite. But
- 25:18Speaker 3: I understand why they're doing it. Is it going to work? No,
- 25:21Speaker 3: because if they don't win, that shit can only go
- 25:25Speaker 3: so far.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Really, you know what I mean?
- 25:27Speaker 3: Like, what are the what did the Colorado Rockies do
- 25:29Speaker 3: this year to get fans into the building? Winning like
- 25:33Speaker 3: fifty games or whatever they did?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Right? Yeah?
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure they had name me any great Rocky Tolowitzki,
- 25:42Speaker 3: Larry Walker, like I name name them all. I'm sure
- 25:46Speaker 3: they had like fifty or those for their home games,
- 25:50Speaker 3: you know, just to get people in the building. Yeah,
- 25:52Speaker 3: And I still would watch their games sometimes be like,
- 25:54Speaker 3: there's two thousand people there.
- 25:56Speaker 1: This is a joke, right, But if.
- 26:00Speaker 3: The team's not winning, if they're fun to watch along
- 26:03Speaker 3: with the the nostalgia, that might work for for a while.
- 26:08Speaker 3: But if they come out that's starting five opening night,
- 26:11Speaker 3: we talked about it two weeks ago, a week ago,
- 26:13Speaker 3: that is going to be sad. But if they come
- 26:16Speaker 3: out and they're just not they're they're just getting trounced,
- 26:20Speaker 3: you know, and edge Comb is only scoring like twelve
- 26:23Speaker 3: points max he's put up to there's this This will
- 26:27Speaker 3: be fun for like a week or two, but if
- 26:29Speaker 3: they're not winning at all, Like I buy, by Christmas time,
- 26:35Speaker 3: this nostalgia is gonna be dead, like no one's gonna.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Catch, nobody's gonna give a crap.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I mean, as Embeied and Paul George is gonna wear
- 26:42Speaker 3: the ship on the bench over their street clothes or
- 26:46Speaker 3: because I don't know when the hell they're gonna play.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I think that. I mean, that's obviously the key to
- 26:50Speaker 3: the whole season, but like this will work for a
- 26:52Speaker 3: while as long as they're exciting and what they're not
- 26:54Speaker 3: and what the hell's.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Hip hop gonna do with them too? Like was he
- 26:56Speaker 1: gonna flirt with them? You know it'd be like all flirty.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Well, at least once a game is gonna go over
- 27:02Speaker 3: and be like he's gonna lay the land under both
- 27:05Speaker 3: their legs, eh my hip hop, and it's like get
- 27:08Speaker 3: off their knees, my god, you know. But I don't
- 27:11Speaker 3: know if you Sawn Beid had a practice game O
- 27:13Speaker 3: the day. It looked really good. It was on Instagram.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I did, I saw it. All the good stuff's on Instagram,
- 27:18Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 27:20Speaker 3: In a practice game?
- 27:21Speaker 2: Yes?
- 27:24Speaker 3: Comments like this could be it?
- 27:26Speaker 1: Man, he looks great.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Oh god, he's playing half speed against his own teammates.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, all right, well buddy, before I let you go,
- 27:35Speaker 1: let's get into some Eagles talk here and whether or
- 27:38Speaker 1: not we think this team can really turn things around
- 27:41Speaker 1: after after losing two games one to the Denver Broncos,
- 27:45Speaker 1: second game two the lowly New York Giants, who the
- 27:49Speaker 1: Eagles made look like they were just a Super Bowl
- 27:52Speaker 1: contending team. It was really really incredible. As of us
- 27:56Speaker 1: recording this, the Eagles have not played the Minnesota Viking yet,
- 28:00Speaker 1: a very winnable game by the way, because they're probably
- 28:04Speaker 1: gonna have Carson Wentz under center. I would think at
- 28:06Speaker 1: this point it hasn't been uh hasn't been determined, but
- 28:10Speaker 1: I have a feeling it's going to be Wentz. The
- 28:14Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagle should win this game. This should be again,
- 28:17Speaker 1: this should be a get right game, not the get
- 28:20Speaker 1: wrong game from from from last week. So I think
- 28:26Speaker 1: they can, but really it's just it's mind boggling. We're
- 28:30Speaker 1: gonna talk to our good friend Shane Haff from the
- 28:33Speaker 1: Eagles Pinpool Network, uh in a little bit here where
- 28:36Speaker 1: we're really gonna dive into what this Eagles offense has
- 28:40Speaker 1: looked like how it can improve. But it can improve
- 28:44Speaker 1: if they actually want it to improve. You know that
- 28:47Speaker 1: it's it's it's a predictable offense. And when you have
- 28:50Speaker 1: a predictable offense, you just have to make changes. And and
- 28:53Speaker 1: I'm some dope here in my in my little home studio.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I watched this team on the couch my entire life.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Yet I understand what's going on here with this team
- 29:03Speaker 1: and and how changes need to be made. I'm not
- 29:06Speaker 1: sure why they don't do it. I really, I'm really
- 29:08Speaker 1: not sure why they don't do the obvious changes that
- 29:10Speaker 1: need to be made.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Well, every not capable, you know, Oh my god, maybe
- 29:15Speaker 3: they're just not that good. I mean, I would one
- 29:18Speaker 3: of the one of the concerning things was Zadarius Smith
- 29:22Speaker 3: just retiring this week.
- 29:26Speaker 1: That that that.
- 29:28Speaker 3: That probably I think I'm pretty sure that I stoked
- 29:31Speaker 3: some rumors of like, what the hell's going on in
- 29:32Speaker 3: that locker room? Yeah, you know that He's like, I mean,
- 29:35Speaker 3: when he signed them, he was like, I can't wait, man,
- 29:38Speaker 3: I'm going for a ring. I can't wait to play
- 29:40Speaker 3: if so glad to be back. And then two weeks
- 29:42Speaker 3: later he's like, fuck off, I'm out. Yeah. That was
- 29:46Speaker 3: that was a little that was concerning in my opinion.
- 29:51Speaker 3: You know, I think Vegas has finally like got to
- 29:53Speaker 3: the point of like they don't trust the Eagles totally.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I mean they're one and a half point favorites against Minnesota.
- 30:00Speaker 3: I know it's in Minnesota against Carson Wentz in what
- 30:05Speaker 3: Jordan Mason? Yeah right, I mean, who has as many
- 30:10Speaker 3: yards as Saquon Barkley and less carries. Carson Wentz has
- 30:14Speaker 3: pretty much the same stats as Hurts, with better completion percentage.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Zach Bonnis two sacks, and he's also leading the team
- 30:21Speaker 3: in sacks or tackles forty eight tackles. Yeah, team's not
- 30:26Speaker 3: performing at all. You're hoping this. I mean, the Minnesota
- 30:31Speaker 3: is kind of depleted, right, I mean, they have some
- 30:34Speaker 3: injuries on defense offense, so do we. But like this
- 30:38Speaker 3: should be I mean, I man, this should be a
- 30:40Speaker 3: get right game, But so was last week. This one's
- 30:43Speaker 3: supposed to be like, Okay, let's kill the Giants and
- 30:46Speaker 3: then let's we'll gut one out against the Vikings and
- 30:48Speaker 3: we'll kill the Giants again next week. Right now, I
- 30:51Speaker 3: have no idea and just the vibes of this team
- 30:56Speaker 3: I know it's vibes is ridiculous and every kid uses
- 30:58Speaker 3: that term now. But like the vibe of this team
- 31:01Speaker 3: not viting for me.
- 31:03Speaker 1: No, not at all. No, there are questions about whether
- 31:06Speaker 1: Quinnon Mitchell is gonna play. If he doesn't. I mean,
- 31:08Speaker 1: you've got Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, who are too
- 31:13Speaker 1: damn good receivers in this league, against Keeley Ringo and
- 31:16Speaker 1: possibly a Dori Jackson. And yes, I know they're gonna
- 31:19Speaker 1: take Cooper de jen and probably put him on the outside,
- 31:22Speaker 1: you know, because he is he is absolutely fantastic, and
- 31:24Speaker 1: he certainly is. But the secondary man is having problems.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Andrew mccooba like a really good player, but he is
- 31:32Speaker 1: learning one of the most difficult positions in the league
- 31:35Speaker 1: as a rookie, and he is making rookie mistakes. He
- 31:38Speaker 1: is making rookie mistakes and he's got to learn. It's
- 31:41Speaker 1: gonna take time. But man, this second, the secondary is
- 31:44Speaker 1: having a hell of a time and going up against
- 31:46Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison like that. I'm scared about that.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I really am.
- 31:51Speaker 3: I am too. I mean, Mitchell makes the whole thing work, yes,
- 31:54Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, yeah, mccooba looked amazing the beginning of
- 31:58Speaker 3: the year. Mitchell looked off the right. I think Cooper
- 32:01Speaker 3: Degene looks awesome on one end if Mitchell's on the
- 32:04Speaker 3: other end. Yeah, Degene is not a one at all.
- 32:07Speaker 3: I don't I'm not even sure if he's a two
- 32:09Speaker 3: at cornerback right, just he just hasn't played that position.
- 32:14Speaker 3: You're hoping m Kouba becomes your two eventually. And I
- 32:16Speaker 3: know everyone loves Cooper Degene. I'm not sure what his
- 32:19Speaker 3: position is, but when you have Quinnion over here, you
- 32:23Speaker 3: can make him your two and it all works out right.
- 32:25Speaker 3: And Kuba and the Nickel Nickel spot. But like that,
- 32:30Speaker 3: I Dickerson is questionable, Mitchell's questionable. Those are two scary
- 32:35Speaker 3: questionable players for this team. I mean, I know the
- 32:41Speaker 3: Vikings have injuries too, but like, is there a party
- 32:46Speaker 3: that's a little like is Carson Wentz gonna want to
- 32:48Speaker 3: try and like have a fuck you game?
- 32:51Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 32:53Speaker 3: Not that he I don't sure. I'm not sure if
- 32:54Speaker 3: he's physically able to do it anymore. But like he's
- 32:57Speaker 3: never really had this chance, has he since? Since they
- 33:01Speaker 3: moved on from him?
- 33:02Speaker 1: Not really did he play? He was in Washington. But
- 33:08Speaker 1: did he play against the Eagles when he was in Washington.
- 33:11Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I forget. Not memorable at all, I actually forget.
- 33:16Speaker 3: But this game's I would never I gamble a little
- 33:20Speaker 3: bit here and there, Jeff, rank little bit. I wouldn't
- 33:24Speaker 3: touch this game ten foot pole.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I wouldn't.
- 33:27Speaker 3: I wouldn't have this game with your money, Jeff. This
- 33:29Speaker 3: one is like who the hell knows?
- 33:31Speaker 1: Really, I don't know. Eagles could come out and just
- 33:34Speaker 1: kill because if they can get the run game going,
- 33:38Speaker 1: If they get the run game going, they can they
- 33:41Speaker 1: will win this game, absolutely one. But if they can't,
- 33:46Speaker 1: if Saquon Barkley isn't getting his over three point four
- 33:50Speaker 1: yards of carry, which he's averaging this season, which is horrendous,
- 33:55Speaker 1: if he doesn't do that, I think the Eagles actually
- 33:57Speaker 1: lose this game. If it's the same old, same I
- 34:00Speaker 1: really do so.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Yeah, same rushing yards as he's the same rushing yards
- 34:05Speaker 3: as Mason. Yes, I look at their stats now. It's
- 34:08Speaker 3: just it's unbelieve.
- 34:09Speaker 1: It's nuts, it really is.
- 34:11Speaker 3: And every time I turn on Prime I see this
- 34:13Speaker 3: Saquon documentary, I'm like, let's just take that off and
- 34:17Speaker 3: like let's if he has another season like last year
- 34:20Speaker 3: and then May I'll watch his Saquon doc. Right now,
- 34:22Speaker 3: I'm like, you're killing a saque.
- 34:25Speaker 1: That's the offensive line. I don't think it's him.
- 34:27Speaker 3: I know that. I but like he was otherworldly last
- 34:30Speaker 3: year and he's the top reason we know, you know,
- 34:33Speaker 3: we want that won the World World Series, the super Bowl. Yeah,
- 34:36Speaker 3: we're never winning World Series again ever. But yeah, but
- 34:41Speaker 3: you're hoping that. Okay, Hurts, Hurts was horrendous last week,
- 34:45Speaker 3: that that interception was a killer. I'm hoping he comes
- 34:50Speaker 3: out and is like, all right, I only put the
- 34:52Speaker 3: team in my back this one time. Yeah, make some plays.
- 34:55Speaker 3: I know it's gonna be Minnesota the defense and be
- 34:56Speaker 3: allowed as hell in there, but like, like, can we
- 35:00Speaker 3: we see it one time this year Hurts like and
- 35:02Speaker 3: not not be a god damn push push fest, right like?
- 35:06Speaker 3: I you know, I think I said on the do
- 35:09Speaker 3: we even call that a postgame show?
- 35:10Speaker 1: Last week? It was fun though it was.
- 35:14Speaker 3: I went back and listen, I'm like, this is not
- 35:16Speaker 3: analysis at all, it's.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Just bitching and moaning.
- 35:22Speaker 3: But now I with this game, I have no clue.
- 35:24Speaker 3: I don't know, I you know, the last the Giants game,
- 35:27Speaker 3: I went in like, this is a this is a
- 35:29Speaker 3: two touchdown victory. Yeah, no quest yep. With this one,
- 35:33Speaker 3: I have no idea. I don't know what to think.
- 35:35Speaker 3: So that's it's definitely it definitely is a get right game.
- 35:39Speaker 1: But if they lose this and they end up going
- 35:43Speaker 1: four and three on the season with three straight losses,
- 35:46Speaker 1: there's there's gonna be there has to be some sort
- 35:48Speaker 1: of accountability. Something needs to happen, I think, And I
- 35:52Speaker 1: don't think that's a knee jerk reaction. I don't think
- 35:54Speaker 1: it's an Eagles knee jerk reaction and the fans saying, oh,
- 35:57Speaker 1: you know, somebody's got to be held accountable or fired
- 35:59Speaker 1: or whatever. It's now this is this is a super
- 36:02Speaker 1: Bowl winning team and a lot of the same pieces
- 36:04Speaker 1: are here, specifically on offense. Specifically on offense. I know
- 36:08Speaker 1: there's injuries stuff going on, but you know, you've got
- 36:11Speaker 1: Jeff Stotlin who has done a damn good job with
- 36:14Speaker 1: the offensive line over these years, and we're seeing some
- 36:16Speaker 1: weird stuff going on with the offensive line. It's not
- 36:19Speaker 1: necessarily coaching on the offensive line standpoint. As far as
- 36:23Speaker 1: I'm concerned, I don't think it's Jeff Stoutlin. You know
- 36:26Speaker 1: there's stuff going on with this team. There's injuries, yes,
- 36:28Speaker 1: but Kevin Patulo in terms of his play calling, in
- 36:32Speaker 1: terms of the play designs themselves too. I just want
- 36:37Speaker 1: to see some new stuff I want to see. I
- 36:38Speaker 1: want to see Hurts going and looking at his second read,
- 36:42Speaker 1: even his third read on plays. I want to see
- 36:45Speaker 1: some intermediate routes over the middle.
- 36:47Speaker 3: I just if you're having trouble creating running lanes because
- 36:50Speaker 3: your offensive line is hurt, then run a speedy pass
- 36:54Speaker 3: first offense next. Yeah, yes, let's just see it and like,
- 36:58Speaker 3: let let Hurts make the reads, but make it quick,
- 37:02Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like if it just like
- 37:05Speaker 3: change the game plan to fit, like what you're what's
- 37:07Speaker 3: going on with your personnel upfront, Like, let's just see
- 37:10Speaker 3: it one time and then this would be the game
- 37:11Speaker 3: to maybe try it. But I think I said that
- 37:13Speaker 3: for the Giants game and they didn't fucking do it. Yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 3: and they did air it out a little more. But
- 37:19Speaker 3: if you know, if if if Saquan needs to be
- 37:22Speaker 3: a decoy, sure, I mean just just to get something.
- 37:26Speaker 3: You know, Penn State needs a coach, maybe popo holes,
- 37:30Speaker 3: uh could jump over this week. I don't want them
- 37:36Speaker 3: well and then nice thing too is the NFC East
- 37:38Speaker 3: is just keeps crapp in the bed. Oh my god, yea,
- 37:41Speaker 3: we might touch push our way into first place when
- 37:44Speaker 3: in the division because because like the Cowboys lost the
- 37:47Speaker 3: pant like that's ridiculous. Yeah, yep, all right, buddy, I'm
- 37:52Speaker 3: gonna let you go. You have any final thoughts before
- 37:54Speaker 3: we go to break and before we get to work.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Thrown down on the table this week.
- 37:58Speaker 3: No, just still last week was the worst, you know,
- 38:03Speaker 3: but it's still not great. Like the Flyers had that
- 38:06Speaker 3: weird loss where they scored the goal and it was
- 38:09Speaker 3: taken away. I'm not so I'm not super high in
- 38:13Speaker 3: the sixers. If the Eagles lose Sunday, man.
- 38:18Speaker 1: It's we're gonna feel bad. It's gonna start. It's gonna
- 38:21Speaker 1: feel real bad.
- 38:24Speaker 3: But it is funny when you have it, when you
- 38:26Speaker 3: cheer for a city with four teams, it really does.
- 38:29Speaker 3: It goes up and down so fast. Like in August,
- 38:32Speaker 3: we're just thinking like or you know, early September, this
- 38:35Speaker 3: is awesome. Yeah, right October Eagles are killing and man
- 38:40Speaker 3: it just went yeah and then last Thursday at midnight,
- 38:45Speaker 3: we're screaming at at each other pissed so quickly it goes.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, folks, were gonna take a break. When
- 38:53Speaker 1: we get back. We got our buddy, Shane Half from
- 38:56Speaker 1: the Eagles Pinpool Network. He's gonna be joining us for
- 38:59Speaker 1: some more Eagles and now stick with us.
- 39:02Speaker 3: And now on the table.
- 39:07Speaker 1: All right, we're back to get into this Philadelphia Eagles
- 39:10Speaker 1: team and a lot more detail with our good friend
- 39:13Speaker 1: from the Eagles pin Pool Network on the Shane Page podcast.
- 39:18Speaker 1: They're over on Patreon as well, and they do fantastic
- 39:22Speaker 1: stuff over at the Eagles Pinpool Network. My good friend
- 39:26Speaker 1: Shane Half, Shane Man, buddy, thanks so much for joining
- 39:28Speaker 1: us here. I mean, it's probably not gonna be the
- 39:30Speaker 1: greatest discussion in the world, but we got to get
- 39:31Speaker 1: into it, like this is what's happening with the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 39:34Speaker 1: It's not the greatest thing in the world, but I
- 39:36Speaker 1: appreciate you being here to discuss it with me. Man.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Yeah, always happy to come on, prefer coming on to
- 39:42Speaker 2: break down Super Bowl wins. Yes, over what just happened
- 39:46Speaker 2: last week, but always good to come on and chat
- 39:48Speaker 2: with you.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Jeff, Yeah, it's always great to have you, man. So
- 39:51Speaker 1: let's let's get into this Eagles offense right off the bat.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Right here, let's talk about first just about the rushing attack,
- 40:00Speaker 1: maybe lack of rushing attack, why it just hasn't been
- 40:04Speaker 1: productive this season. Saquon Barkley, as we know, one of
- 40:06Speaker 1: the best running backs in the NFL, yet he's sitting
- 40:10Speaker 1: at three point four yards per carry on ninety five
- 40:13Speaker 1: carries as of us recording this show. This is really
- 40:16Speaker 1: coming down to Shane ineffective offensive line productivity in the
- 40:22Speaker 1: rushing game. Correct am I correct in that. You know,
- 40:24Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on why we've seen this rushing
- 40:28Speaker 1: attack and game struggle so much here?
- 40:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 40:31Speaker 2: I think there are multiple components to that. So, first
- 40:34Speaker 2: of all, when a guy has a two thousand yard
- 40:37Speaker 2: season with as many carries as Barkley has, yeah, you
- 40:40Speaker 2: expect some sort of regression the next year. Now that said,
- 40:45Speaker 2: Barkley's made some cuts and some spins this year that
- 40:48Speaker 2: don't look like that is the issue. And I don't
- 40:51Speaker 2: think that is the issue. I think he might just
- 40:53Speaker 2: be a freak that's able to sustain that over a
- 40:56Speaker 2: couple of years. And so I actually don't think it
- 40:59Speaker 2: has anything to do with the workload from last year. Okay,
- 41:02Speaker 2: I mean, first and foremost, you mentioned the struggles of
- 41:05Speaker 2: the offensive line and particularly the interior offensive line. Now
- 41:10Speaker 2: there's some nuance to that. We know that Landon Dickerson
- 41:14Speaker 2: has been playing through injury. We know that Cam Jurgens,
- 41:18Speaker 2: you know, had to put off a surgery because of
- 41:20Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, and he hasn't looked great, and so
- 41:23Speaker 2: we can start out saying there's been some injury things
- 41:27Speaker 2: that are overarching here. Yeah, but the Eagles offensive line
- 41:31Speaker 2: is twenty first in run block win rate this year
- 41:34Speaker 2: and they were ninth last year, and so that's a
- 41:37Speaker 2: piece of it. The offensive line is not playing very
- 41:40Speaker 2: well right Saquon Barkley is averaging zero point nine to
- 41:44Speaker 2: eight yards per contact per rushing attempt. Last year it
- 41:48Speaker 2: was at two point three eight, so basically gone from
- 41:51Speaker 2: one from two point four yards before he was touched
- 41:54Speaker 2: down to about one yard. So that's a huge difference,
- 41:57Speaker 2: and that's indicative that's not Saquon just losing his vision.
- 42:01Speaker 2: That's so offensive line play. Now where it can get
- 42:05Speaker 2: hard to riddle that out is the offense is also
- 42:08Speaker 2: just so tremendously predictable, and so you'll have elements of
- 42:12Speaker 2: the defense knows what you're doing, and so offensive linemen
- 42:16Speaker 2: get beat, maybe not because they're injured or they're playing bad,
- 42:19Speaker 2: but because the defense just knows, and the defense is
- 42:23Speaker 2: or the offense is tremendously predictable. You know, I charted
- 42:27Speaker 2: out splits just based on QB alignment runner pass and
- 42:31Speaker 2: I haven't updated those for the Giants game because I
- 42:34Speaker 2: haven't just had the motivation to go watch the offense
- 42:38Speaker 2: a whole lot again. But it was something about eighty
- 42:41Speaker 2: percent of the Eagles snaps and shotgun or passes and
- 42:44Speaker 2: about twenty percent of their snaps from under center or
- 42:47Speaker 2: pistol or passes, and so you get a massive indicator.
- 42:50Speaker 2: You can see teams attacking downhill when the Eagles take
- 42:55Speaker 2: a snap and pistol, and so that's part of it.
- 42:58Speaker 2: And then part of it too besides the predictability is
- 43:01Speaker 2: just the scheme. A year ago the Eagles ran gap
- 43:04Speaker 2: scheme runs on about thirty six percent of their carries.
- 43:07Speaker 2: And for the listener, a gap really easy way to
- 43:10Speaker 2: recognize gap schemes. There's a polar Usually if a offensive
- 43:13Speaker 2: lineman polls. Usually it's gonna be gap scheme. Usually if
- 43:17Speaker 2: none of them pull, it is a zone blocking scheme.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Not always, there's some gap schemes that don't use a poller.
- 43:22Speaker 2: But we won't get too much into the semantics there.
- 43:25Speaker 2: But thirty six percent of their carries last year were
- 43:28Speaker 2: gap scheme runs and they were a lot more effective
- 43:32Speaker 2: doing that, thirty percent more yards per carry, they had
- 43:35Speaker 2: three times the EPA per attempt. Well, this year that
- 43:38Speaker 2: gap scheme runs are down to twenty one percent of
- 43:41Speaker 2: their attempts, so they're running gap scheme less. And you
- 43:44Speaker 2: think about a guy like Cam Jurgens who is so
- 43:46Speaker 2: good out on the move and they're just not using him. Yeah,
- 43:49Speaker 2: that way I posted up. I think it was from
- 43:53Speaker 2: the Broncos game when they had like that second and
- 43:57Speaker 2: one or second and six after the penalty and they
- 44:00Speaker 2: called the only under center play of the game and
- 44:02Speaker 2: it was a run, and they asked Cam Jurgens to
- 44:04Speaker 2: reach blocks so jump across the face of Dexter Lawrence
- 44:08Speaker 2: and seal him out playside, when last year almost certainly
- 44:12Speaker 2: they would have had Tyler Steen down block him and
- 44:15Speaker 2: pull Cam Jurgens behind him through the hole. They're just
- 44:17Speaker 2: not doing those things, and so then when you're going
- 44:21Speaker 2: to just run zone, you need your quarterback involved in
- 44:25Speaker 2: the running game, and Hurts hasn't been involved in the
- 44:27Speaker 2: running game. He had just under five designed runs per
- 44:30Speaker 2: game last year, and that's been cut in half to
- 44:33Speaker 2: about two point six this year. So all of those
- 44:35Speaker 2: things add up to the run game just being really bad,
- 44:39Speaker 2: and the rest of the offense follows after that, because
- 44:42Speaker 2: I firmly believe the biggest issue is the run game.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Last year, the Eagles scheme was pretty simple. The run
- 44:48Speaker 2: game was dominant, and so when you saw teams have
- 44:51Speaker 2: to load up the box like the Chiefs did in
- 44:53Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, the offense could shred them. This year,
- 44:56Speaker 2: teams are stopping the run from light boxes because it's predictable,
- 45:00Speaker 2: because the scheme is bad, and because the offensive line
- 45:03Speaker 2: hasn't played particularly well.
- 45:05Speaker 1: I'm really, quite frankly baffled by the fact that the
- 45:09Speaker 1: offensive coaching on this team hasn't made any sort of
- 45:13Speaker 1: alterations in the opposite direction of what you just said
- 45:17Speaker 1: in terms of predictability. I'm really surprised by that. I mean,
- 45:21Speaker 1: I would imagine that professional football coaches in this day
- 45:25Speaker 1: and age are seeing what they're seeing on film week
- 45:28Speaker 1: after week. Have to be saying in these coaching rooms,
- 45:32Speaker 1: this is predictable and we have to change it. I
- 45:35Speaker 1: was watching your video this past week that you posted
- 45:38Speaker 1: on Twitter slash x that dissected the play where Jalen
- 45:42Speaker 1: Hurts through his first interception of the season. Honestly, fantastic,
- 45:46Speaker 1: fantastic dissection of that. Shane and you were talking about
- 45:51Speaker 1: and questioning this play based on the actual play design itself,
- 45:55Speaker 1: and you also mentioned as you were breaking down the film,
- 45:59Speaker 1: you're only seeing one route, one receiver route that they
- 46:02Speaker 1: can throw to on just about every passing play as well,
- 46:05Speaker 1: only one. And it's mind boggling again to know that
- 46:09Speaker 1: a talent like Jalen Hurts, with all the talent on
- 46:12Speaker 1: this team at skill positions, that this is how the
- 46:15Speaker 1: passing game continues to operate here and they are not
- 46:19Speaker 1: making alterations and they're continuing to do the same predictable
- 46:23Speaker 1: type of play calling week after week. I mean, can
- 46:27Speaker 1: they alter this or or maybe I should ask do
- 46:30Speaker 1: you think they'll be able to alter this as the
- 46:33Speaker 1: season progresses? And what would that mean in terms of
- 46:36Speaker 1: offensive productivity?
- 46:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so much of what the Eagles do in their
- 46:40Speaker 2: passing game is they run these mirrored concepts, so you
- 46:44Speaker 2: run the same thing on both sides of the field,
- 46:47Speaker 2: and so much of it is like mirrored hitch routes
- 46:51Speaker 2: with corner routes behind it. And it's like, if I
- 46:54Speaker 2: open up to the left and that hitch route's not there,
- 46:57Speaker 2: the hitch route on the right broke at the same time,
- 47:00Speaker 2: I'm late to it. I can't throw it. Yeah, if
- 47:03Speaker 2: the corner route isn't there, which it never will be
- 47:05Speaker 2: because they're not influent, they're not conflicting zone defenders. I
- 47:10Speaker 2: have to bounce all the way to the other side
- 47:12Speaker 2: of the field to see a route breaking the other
- 47:14Speaker 2: direction that also broke at the same time, and I
- 47:16Speaker 2: can't possibly get to it. You know, you watch other
- 47:19Speaker 2: teams in the NFL, and you have you know, you've
- 47:23Speaker 2: got a route attacking outside the numbers on the right,
- 47:27Speaker 2: and if that's not there, then you've got routes coming
- 47:29Speaker 2: across the middle of the field, and so you can
- 47:31Speaker 2: scan right to left and there's a logical way to
- 47:33Speaker 2: move through these. And the Eagles just don't have that,
- 47:36Speaker 2: and so could they alter that absolutely, And it's honestly
- 47:41Speaker 2: not hard, which is what makes it even more baffling.
- 47:44Speaker 2: They haven't done it yet, That's what I don't understand,
- 47:47Speaker 2: and so I hesitate to make definitive statements like the
- 47:52Speaker 2: season is over if Kevin Patulo isn't demoted, because the
- 47:56Speaker 2: fixes seem so unbelievably simple to me that sure he
- 48:00Speaker 2: will make these changes and yet I haven't seen any
- 48:03Speaker 2: sight of it yet. Yeah, and so I have no
- 48:06Speaker 2: confidence that he will. But at the same time, it's
- 48:09Speaker 2: like I can't say he won't because this is elementary stuff,
- 48:13Speaker 2: and so, you know, there's a lot of easy buttons
- 48:15Speaker 2: I think the Eagles could push on this offense to
- 48:18Speaker 2: to really you know, you don't have to bring in
- 48:21Speaker 2: a whole different scheme. We don't have to run under
- 48:23Speaker 2: center play action crossing routes, like we don't have to
- 48:26Speaker 2: run the Kyle Shanahan offense, the Mike McDaniel. We don't
- 48:29Speaker 2: have to do that. The elements are all there. They
- 48:32Speaker 2: were sequenced differently last year and they weren't And so
- 48:37Speaker 2: there's easy things you can do, like run empty more
- 48:40Speaker 2: often the Eagle empty as a cheat code. It spreads
- 48:42Speaker 2: the offense or the defense out. It makes them declare
- 48:46Speaker 2: pre snap, their coverage structure, where their pressure is coming from.
- 48:50Speaker 2: All of those things are helpful. And the negative to
- 48:53Speaker 2: empty is that it hurts your run game. But it
- 48:56Speaker 2: doesn't with the Eagles because Jalen Hurts can be the
- 48:59Speaker 2: run game out of empty five or six times a game.
- 49:01Speaker 2: If they widen out too much, you just run it
- 49:04Speaker 2: and it's not like, you know, Saquon Barkley's ripping off
- 49:07Speaker 2: good gains this year, where it's like, man, now we
- 49:09Speaker 2: can't really run Barkley much. Yeah, so get an empty.
- 49:12Speaker 2: What about mesh concepts. I'd love to see some mesh
- 49:15Speaker 2: concepts every now and again too. Yeah, especially against Man.
- 49:19Speaker 2: They love to run that against zone.
- 49:20Speaker 1: I know.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Yes, ditch twelve personnel, like literally, don't ever put a
- 49:26Speaker 2: second tight end on the field. It's terrible when you do.
- 49:28Speaker 2: If you want to do that, put a sixth olignment
- 49:30Speaker 2: on the field, because even you can call a pass
- 49:33Speaker 2: play with a sixth though alignment on the field. It's fine. Yeah,
- 49:36Speaker 2: you've got to be willing to run Hurts like I
- 49:39Speaker 2: love Jalen Hurts. If you are going to use him
- 49:42Speaker 2: as a pocket passer and not move the pocket, move
- 49:45Speaker 2: the launch point. Not use him as a runner. He's
- 49:48Speaker 2: not a top ten quarterback in the NFL because you're
- 49:50Speaker 2: stripping away one of his superpowers, which is his rushing ability.
- 49:54Speaker 2: So you've got to be willing to run Hurts, redesign
- 49:58Speaker 2: these routes so they're breaking aff depths in a logical
- 50:01Speaker 2: way that makes sense, and then push the ball downfield.
- 50:03Speaker 2: I mean, the last game, Hurts through five passes downfield.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Three of them were completions, one was a defensive pass
- 50:10Speaker 2: interference and the other one was an open touchdown that
- 50:13Speaker 2: they just misfired on, So that's an eighty percent success rate,
- 50:17Speaker 2: and the other one was just a rare missed throw.
- 50:20Speaker 1: It hurts.
- 50:21Speaker 2: So there's some easy things that you can do, and
- 50:24Speaker 2: it blows my mind that they haven't done any of them.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Yeah, they got to start implementing them for sure. And
- 50:29Speaker 1: you know, before we hit the record button, you and
- 50:31Speaker 1: I were talking a little bit, you know about what
- 50:33Speaker 1: this offense has looked like when it hasn't looked like,
- 50:36Speaker 1: and they just have been terrible using motion in this offense.
- 50:41Speaker 1: They I mean, when it is used, it's not meant.
- 50:45Speaker 1: It's not being used to really enhance the playbook. At all.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I mean, I recall them using motion last season under
- 50:52Speaker 1: Kellen Moore pretty effectively if I'm not mistaken. So I'm wondering,
- 50:57Speaker 1: you know, is this really a Kevin Patulo issue here?
- 50:59Speaker 1: And how are you seeing something as straightforward as utilizing motion,
- 51:04Speaker 1: by the way, a key aspect to playing the game
- 51:07Speaker 1: of football on offense here in twenty twenty five, have
- 51:10Speaker 1: you seen that not like not being utilized by an
- 51:12Speaker 1: offense that again, there's really good skill players on this team.
- 51:16Speaker 1: You know what's the issue here? Shane?
- 51:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so the Eagles. I don't think the Eagles have
- 51:22Speaker 2: ever used motion in a great way. So they're using
- 51:27Speaker 2: motion about the same rate they did last year, but
- 51:31Speaker 2: they don't use it to do anything other than like
- 51:34Speaker 2: you can get a pre snap man slash zone indicator.
- 51:37Speaker 2: You know, if the emotion you're running back out and
- 51:39Speaker 2: a linebacker follows him, it's probably man. So they do
- 51:42Speaker 2: that some. But outside of that, they don't do anything
- 51:46Speaker 2: with it. They don't target the motion man like ever never,
- 51:49Speaker 2: They usually don't have him run a route that's even
- 51:51Speaker 2: in play, Like he just motions out and then it
- 51:55Speaker 2: doesn't matter. You don't have to cover him because we're
- 51:57Speaker 2: not looking at him.
- 51:58Speaker 1: We see that with Devonte all the time.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Literally, the only time I remember them targeting the
- 52:02Speaker 2: motion man was a pass to DeVante Smith in the
- 52:05Speaker 2: fourth quarter of the Giants game, and it went for
- 52:07Speaker 2: sixteen yards because when you motions outside of aj Brown,
- 52:12Speaker 2: both defenders covered aj Brown because they think there's no
- 52:15Speaker 2: way the Eagles are throwing this to DeVante Smith and
- 52:17Speaker 2: he gets sixteen yards easy. Yeah, because the Eagles just
- 52:20Speaker 2: never throw it. And so to me, like motion is
- 52:24Speaker 2: good if you use it with a purpose. The way
- 52:26Speaker 2: the Eagles use it is completely pointless. And if that's
- 52:29Speaker 2: what they're gonna do, I would rather them just stop
- 52:32Speaker 2: using it. Like, yeah, teams, you watch a team like
- 52:34Speaker 2: the Dolphins for years, and I know they haven't been
- 52:36Speaker 2: good this year, but they sink their motion up with
- 52:40Speaker 2: the snap of the ball. So it's that cheap motion
- 52:42Speaker 2: you're you're switching the release of the receivers. The outside
- 52:45Speaker 2: guy is now the inside guy right at the snap.
- 52:47Speaker 2: It can confuse defenses, but also you've got a guy
- 52:50Speaker 2: running full speed at the snap that can get upfield
- 52:52Speaker 2: and fire off the line. The Eagles actually slow themselves
- 52:56Speaker 2: down when they motion snap somebody because the timing's off,
- 52:59Speaker 2: there's no urgent and see because it's not in play anyways.
- 53:01Speaker 2: And I would ready you just throw the motion out
- 53:05Speaker 2: then use it the way that they're using it. But
- 53:07Speaker 2: it's another one of those things like you saw it
- 53:09Speaker 2: with the DeVante Smith catch in the fourth quarter of
- 53:11Speaker 2: the Giants game. Do that it's there and make teams
- 53:14Speaker 2: take that away and make teams respect it.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's so frustrating. Gosh. I hope we see
- 53:19Speaker 1: something different this next game with the Minnesota Vikings, and
- 53:24Speaker 1: this Vikings team a vulnerable team, and I think this
- 53:27Speaker 1: offense could could actually do some good things if they
- 53:30Speaker 1: made some alterations. So we're gonna take a quick break here, folks. Again,
- 53:34Speaker 1: we're talking to Shane Half from the Eagles pin Pool Network.
- 53:38Speaker 1: My friend. Tell everybody where they can find you out
- 53:40Speaker 1: there on socials, your Patreon as well. You guys do
- 53:43Speaker 1: some great analysis.
- 53:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you can follow me on Twitter at Shane Half NFL.
- 53:49Speaker 2: I tweet lots of all twenty two content throughout the week.
- 53:53Speaker 2: And then we've got a public podcast network, the Eagles
- 53:56Speaker 2: pin Pooll Network. Get that on apple Spot wherever you
- 54:00Speaker 2: get your podcast. But then Johnny Page and Eric and
- 54:05Speaker 2: I have a Patreon, Patreon dot com slash Eagles Film
- 54:09Speaker 2: Room and each week and there's different tiers, but Eric
- 54:13Speaker 2: does a big write up predicting the next game. Johnny's
- 54:18Speaker 2: doing a film preview. I'm doing an All twenty two
- 54:21Speaker 2: pass game review, which I'm recording after this show, by
- 54:23Speaker 2: the way. And then we do a player spotlight where
- 54:27Speaker 2: we let our patrons vote and there's whatever player they
- 54:30Speaker 2: vote for. This week, it was Jylex Hunt. I go
- 54:33Speaker 2: and watch every snap of his in All twenty two
- 54:35Speaker 2: and just talk about what I'm seeing assignment wise and
- 54:38Speaker 2: what he's doing, and so lots of more All twenty
- 54:40Speaker 2: two stuff, probably than you can consume on a weekly basis.
- 54:43Speaker 2: But that's at Eagles Film Room, so you can go
- 54:46Speaker 2: check that out.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Great stuff, Great stuff, folks. All Right, when we get back,
- 54:49Speaker 1: we got more Eagles talk. We're gonna get into the defense,
- 54:52Speaker 1: and then yes, we're gonna actually try to get into
- 54:53Speaker 1: some positivity with regard to this team. We're gonna try
- 54:56Speaker 1: to do that after the break stick with us. All right,
- 55:03Speaker 1: we are back with our good friend Shane haf and
- 55:06Speaker 1: Shane want to dive into this Eagles defense here, and
- 55:10Speaker 1: I said on our postgame podcast show, it seems after
- 55:14Speaker 1: all these weeks, it's very apparent that we haven't seen
- 55:18Speaker 1: that development in the pass rush that we were hoping.
- 55:22Speaker 1: You know, you just met right before the break. You
- 55:24Speaker 1: mentioned Jlex Hunt. You know, we really haven't, at least
- 55:27Speaker 1: to the naked eye. You know, I don't analyze like
- 55:30Speaker 1: you do, but Jalx Hunt, Moro Ojomo haven't necessarily seen
- 55:34Speaker 1: that pass rush and specifically these guys getting home, you know,
- 55:37Speaker 1: getting the sacks. You know, maybe they are developing and
- 55:40Speaker 1: I'm not seeing it, but I'm frustrated at the fact
- 55:45Speaker 1: that only you know, three quarterback hits we saw it
- 55:49Speaker 1: from last week against the Giants, two sacks. I think
- 55:52Speaker 1: they have nine total sacks through six games this season,
- 55:56Speaker 1: which is ranked twenty fifth in the league. Is it
- 55:58Speaker 1: a talent issue up front in your opinion? Is it?
- 56:01Speaker 1: Vic Fangio, what are your thoughts on what I believe
- 56:05Speaker 1: is a very sad state of this Eagles pass rush
- 56:07Speaker 1: at this point in the season. I don't know, maybe
- 56:09Speaker 1: you could talk me off the ledge here. I'm not sure.
- 56:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Eagles fans underestimated the impact of losing
- 56:16Speaker 2: Josh Sweat and Milton Williams. Yeah, which is funny because
- 56:20Speaker 2: I don't think Eagles fans ever truly like really loved
- 56:23Speaker 2: Josh Sweat, but Milton Williams. With Milton Williams last year,
- 56:27Speaker 2: they were like, man, Milton Williams is awesome. He's a
- 56:29Speaker 2: great player. And as soon as he left, they're like,
- 56:31Speaker 2: it was all about Jalen Carter.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Moro, Jomo is going to do.
- 56:34Speaker 2: The same thing this year, And yeah, we kind of
- 56:36Speaker 2: do that at times. It's like the guy is great
- 56:38Speaker 2: when he's here, and as soon as he leaves, like,
- 56:40Speaker 2: well he wasn't really that good. The next guy will
- 56:42Speaker 2: be as good. So Milton Williams ranks third in the
- 56:45Speaker 2: NFL and defensive tackle pass rush win rate right now
- 56:48Speaker 2: at seventeen percent. Josh Sweat ranks fourth among edge rushers
- 56:53Speaker 2: with a twenty six percent win rate. And then of
- 56:55Speaker 2: course you lost Brandon Graham too, and so you lose
- 56:58Speaker 2: all of these guys, and then you combine that with
- 57:01Speaker 2: Jalen Carter being off to the slowest start of his career.
- 57:04Speaker 2: Nolan Smith is hurt. Jlex Hunt heated up last year
- 57:08Speaker 2: in the playoffs, and people thought he would just continue
- 57:11Speaker 2: that and that was probably unrealistic. He's more like where
- 57:15Speaker 2: you know you kind of thought he would be, And
- 57:16Speaker 2: so the talent drain is a big deal, and specifically
- 57:21Speaker 2: against the Giants. Also, Jackson Dart just got the ball
- 57:23Speaker 2: out so fast. It was like two point five to
- 57:25Speaker 2: one seconds was his average time to throw, and so
- 57:28Speaker 2: it's hard to rush the passer when the ball is
- 57:31Speaker 2: coming out that quick as well. But I think that
- 57:34Speaker 2: josh Usha and Azizo Julari and Jalx Hunt are perfectly
- 57:39Speaker 2: playable edgrushers. You know, if we're gonna like grad him,
- 57:43Speaker 2: they're like six out of tens probably okay, none of
- 57:48Speaker 2: them or somebody in offense has to game plan around.
- 57:51Speaker 2: But they are perfectly acceptable starters. But you need one
- 57:56Speaker 2: of those guys you have to game plan around somewhere,
- 57:58Speaker 2: and the Eagles just don't have that right now. Jalen
- 58:00Speaker 2: Carter's not playing at the level he was, Moro Jamo
- 58:03Speaker 2: hasn't taken the leap people hoped he would. And Nolan Smith,
- 58:06Speaker 2: who was your most consistent edge rusher, is out injured,
- 58:09Speaker 2: and so you know, I think your edge rusher group
- 58:14Speaker 2: can be okay with Nolan Smith when he comes back,
- 58:17Speaker 2: and with Hunt and Ushe and Ojulari, I think that
- 58:20Speaker 2: group can be okay as long as Jalen Carter starts
- 58:25Speaker 2: to play dominant football again. And you know, you get
- 58:29Speaker 2: a little more from a guy like Moro Jamo rushing
- 58:31Speaker 2: on the interior. And so I think the biggest issue
- 58:33Speaker 2: at the pass rush right now just boils down to
- 58:36Speaker 2: that talent drain and Jalen Carter just not being Jalen Carter.
- 58:40Speaker 2: And maybe there's injury things playing into that. You know,
- 58:42Speaker 2: he misses the Giants game with an injury, and so
- 58:46Speaker 2: you know, at the end of the day, I just
- 58:47Speaker 2: need the defensive line to get healthy and see where
- 58:50Speaker 2: we go from there.
- 58:51Speaker 1: All right, Well, moving along here again, this has been
- 58:55Speaker 1: a lot of doom and gloom here in our conversation,
- 58:58Speaker 1: but you know it's hard not to when this team
- 59:02Speaker 1: just lost to the New York Giants here, So let's
- 59:05Speaker 1: let's try to get into something positive here, Shane, what
- 59:08Speaker 1: do you think is the most consistent positive that you've
- 59:11Speaker 1: actually seen from the Eagles so far this season? I mean,
- 59:14Speaker 1: have you seen anything?
- 59:16Speaker 2: Yeah, the first thing that comes to mind for me
- 59:19Speaker 2: is Quinnon, Mitchell and Cooper to Jane. Yeah, I mean,
- 59:23Speaker 2: those guys are incredible and the NFL's insane for letting
- 59:27Speaker 2: both of them fall to the Eagles in the same draft.
- 59:29Speaker 2: He should have been a top ten pick. It should
- 59:32Speaker 2: have been borderline if Cooper de jan would have been
- 59:34Speaker 2: there in the mid twenties when the Eagles picked. There's
- 59:36Speaker 2: no way he ever should have. Either one of them
- 59:38Speaker 2: should have fallen that far. And I think they've played
- 59:41Speaker 2: really good football this year. Q had a bit of
- 59:43Speaker 2: a rough game against the bron Broncos Portland Sutton. Yeah,
- 59:47Speaker 2: I will say like in that game, I thought his
- 59:50Speaker 2: coverage was incredibly sticky. He was just out and muscled
- 59:54Speaker 2: at the catch point by a receiver that's four inches
- 59:57Speaker 2: and thirty pounds heavier than he is. Yeah, that's gonna
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: happen at times, and that's something he can improve on.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: But his coverage has been really good. Cooper de Jean's
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: picked up right where he left off, and so you
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: can cover a lot of ills in a secondary when
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: you've got two guys like that. And then you know,
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Zach Bond has been good. He's coming off a little
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: bit of a rougher stretch these last two games. But
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Zach Bond's been good. And I think Jahad Campbell, although
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: and again he had a rough game against the Giants,
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: I think Jahad Campbell might be a budding superstar. Yeah,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: the instincts and coverage are so good. He needs to
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: do a little bit of work in the run game,
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: but I've seen that get better, and so I think
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: the core of this defense has been a hit over
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: the last couple of drafts, and that's something to be
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: excited about. It's a consistent positive that I've seen week
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: over week.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: All Right, very good, And before we let you go, buddy,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: two part question here to close us out being the
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: biggest hurdles on both the offense and the defense. Let's
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: start on the offense with that's the biggest hurdle on
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: offense for this Philadelphia Eagles team.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: I think it's twofold, and we've kind of talked about it.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: It's the predictability of the offense, and it's the design
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: of the offense. And again I'm not saying that the
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Eagles need to scrap their entire playbook and install a
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: whole new scheme, because you obviously can't do that in
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: a year. But there's minor design tweaks that you can make.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: There are place sequencing things that you can do better
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: just to be less predictable. And if the Eagles can
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: do that, there's no reason this offense can't be good again.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: They've got all the pieces. Obviously, you need to get healthy,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: you need your offensive line operating at full strength. But
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: predictability and design are the two biggest issues for the
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: Eagles offense.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: So something I wanted to mention. I have seen on
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: more than a few occasions Jordan Mylatta really getting pushed
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: around and it's been very, very bizarre to watch. Have
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: you noticed that as well?
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he's had some bad reps. Yeah, absolutely far
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: this year.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: Okay, let's move over the defense here. Biggest hurdle for
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: this Eagles defense as they're moving forward here, Shane.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: I think it's the pass rush, which we already kind
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: of talked about a bit too. But you know, so
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: we can talk about CB two and especially after the
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Giants game, they're missing their top two receivers and you
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: see Ador Jackson and quiey Ringo both play bad games. Yeah,
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: but when you have Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper de Jene
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: healthy and on the field, If you can't hide a
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: weaker CB between those two guys, you're not a very
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: good coach. And I think Vic Fangio is an excellent coach.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: So sure it would be nice if you hadn't led
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: Isaiah Rodgers out of the building. But I think CB
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: is fine. There's some issues with Andrew mccuba. He is
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: busting a lot of coverages right now, yes, and that
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: needs cleaned up. You know, for him, it's not a
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: physical thing, it's not an effort thing. It's a mental thing.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: And he's a second round rookie and a pro complex
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: defense playing the most difficult position in that defense. So
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: I think I think you play him through that, and
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: you coach him through that, and you hope he's put
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: that all together down the stretch. I think that's probably
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: what you do there. And so you know, that can
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: cause some cascading issues with corners and with Reid blanken
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: Ship not trusting the Kouba will be where he should be.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: But I think that gets better with time. The pass
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: rush is the thing for me, it's the biggest issue
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: right now. And other than you need Jalen Carter to
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: be dominant. Yeah, and I think they need to go
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: get a defensive tackle as well. Byron Young is playing
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: like twenty snaps a game right now, and he's unplayable.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: He's bad. If you're talking about who can you go get? Well,
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: a third round, A Day three pick at corner is
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: not going to give you something much better than what
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: you have. A Day three pick at edge dresher is
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: not going to give you something much better than what
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: you have. Day three pick on the interior defensive line
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: will give you something that is so much, far and
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: away better than Byron Young. That's what I would be
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: looking to do to try to improve the defense.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Oh, very good, he is Shane Haff Folks from the
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Eagles Pinpoll Network, subscribe on whatever podcast you may be
