- 0:04Speaker 1: What's up, Murph?
- 0:05Speaker 2: All right, so here he is.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Time all start, two times silver Slugger from ERNOLCSMVP, the
- 0:10Speaker 3: whole deal.
- 0:10Speaker 4: Let's let's talk kidding. KP was excited to bring you
- 0:13Speaker 4: on for this, Murph.
- 0:14Speaker 3: So I'm just going to talk about one of the
- 0:16Speaker 3: buzzier topics here so far, but I'm going to get
- 0:18Speaker 3: the hitting approach question on it. So the Mets were
- 0:21Speaker 3: finally able to snap their long losing skid, a team
- 0:24Speaker 3: that you had, you know, some nice history with. What
- 0:26Speaker 3: are you seeing from their batters? And the one thing
- 0:28Speaker 3: that I'll point to is just nice and simple the fastball.
- 0:31Speaker 3: So I was looking this up before yesterday's game. Okay
- 0:34Speaker 3: against four seam and two seam going into yesterday three
- 0:38Speaker 3: twenty five slug percentage against fastballs, with twenty one points
- 0:42Speaker 3: lower than any other team, nineteen point six percent of
- 0:45Speaker 3: their misses against heaters. So all those numbers kind of
- 0:49Speaker 3: worse in the league, while teams like the Dodgers and
- 0:51Speaker 3: Braves excel there. So your thoughts on what you've seen
- 0:54Speaker 3: from them, and you know the basics of if teams
- 0:56Speaker 3: are challenging you and beating you with a fastball, then
- 0:58Speaker 3: what do you do.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Man, Maybe go look for a curve, you know, but
- 1:03Speaker 2: you probably won't get it since they're beating you with fastballs.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I saw that they're like last in the league and
- 1:07Speaker 2: they're kind of just getting beat in the zone with fastballs,
- 1:11Speaker 2: you know, more than the rest of the league is.
- 1:12Speaker 2: So it's just a it's such a tough spot because
- 1:18Speaker 2: like the way, I just can speak for myself that
- 1:20Speaker 2: if I felt like there was an area of the
- 1:22Speaker 2: plate that you could throw your best punch to in
- 1:24Speaker 2: the zone and I couldn't get there, then I needed
- 1:26Speaker 2: to cheat. And so then at the point that I
- 1:28Speaker 2: have to cheat to your fastball, now I'm susceptible to
- 1:31Speaker 2: your change up, to your curveball, to your sliders because
- 1:34Speaker 2: I'm having to sell out and make contact a little
- 1:36Speaker 2: bit more out front. And so like that's some of it.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I'm wondering as well too, because I haven't been in
- 1:43Speaker 2: love with like the Mets batted ball profile, I mean,
- 1:46Speaker 2: and it's easy to say when they've lost, you know,
- 1:48Speaker 2: twelve in a row. They won last night, but even
- 1:50Speaker 2: seeing Sodo get in there, he just shows you a
- 1:53Speaker 2: little bit how different he is and that he's been
- 1:55Speaker 2: on the shelf for three weeks. First of that drives
- 1:58Speaker 2: one to center field. Next to bat hits a bullet
- 2:01Speaker 2: to the right fielder, walks, and then a base hit
- 2:04Speaker 2: you know through the three four holder right field like
- 2:07Speaker 2: one is awesome at playing against the outfielders. I would
- 2:10Speaker 2: say even more so playing against the right fielder, although
- 2:14Speaker 2: he is strong enough to play against the left fielder,
- 2:16Speaker 2: if that makes sense, like the left all right, So
- 2:18Speaker 2: I look at it this way. I got to be
- 2:20Speaker 2: able to get to second base from home plate, and
- 2:22Speaker 2: we kind of saw it with the Mets last night.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Bashett hits a double to lead the game off. He
- 2:26Speaker 2: ends up touching home plate and scoring. Alvarez drives in
- 2:29Speaker 2: Lindor with a double. There's just been I know it's
- 2:32Speaker 2: slug and you could even look at it as homers,
- 2:34Speaker 2: but it's more like how do I get to second base?
- 2:37Speaker 2: Because if I can, I need to hit a double
- 2:39Speaker 2: to score a runner from first. And so watching the Mets,
- 2:42Speaker 2: it's been strikeouts, pop ups, full ground balls, flies the
- 2:48Speaker 2: other way, you know what I mean, Like fly balls
- 2:49Speaker 2: that that that's like you don't like first base in
- 2:53Speaker 2: my opinion, like that batted ball profile is like you
- 2:56Speaker 2: just don't love getting on base, and so I think
- 2:59Speaker 2: of it more like the ball that Van Too's won
- 3:01Speaker 2: the game with last night. He hits a hand grenade
- 3:04Speaker 2: the right field, but he gets it over the infielder's heads,
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know what I mean, and plays in front of
- 3:08Speaker 2: the right fielder. So like and my career, the way
- 3:11Speaker 2: I thought of it is as I moved to the
- 3:12Speaker 2: left fielder and my bad at ball profile that way
- 3:15Speaker 2: it needed to be lower, and then I would basically
- 3:17Speaker 2: what do they call it, kp and cratze. It's almost
- 3:19Speaker 2: like that telephone wire, and then I would try to
- 3:22Speaker 2: work that now over the second and first baseman to
- 3:25Speaker 2: play over the right fielder and right center fielder. And
- 3:28Speaker 2: so that's, you know the way. And I think they're
- 3:30Speaker 2: misses right now. I'm seeing they're like they're late to
- 3:32Speaker 2: the fastball, so they're fouling it off the other way,
- 3:35Speaker 2: Whereas I would prefer to see you early in the count,
- 3:39Speaker 2: at least until one strike. If you're trying to hit
- 3:41Speaker 2: a double, better to play in the pool gap. And
- 3:44Speaker 2: if you miss, miss high and foul, you know what
- 3:47Speaker 2: I mean, because then you get to hit again, and
- 3:49Speaker 2: I think you get a better idea of how to
- 3:51Speaker 2: measure the pitcher, if that makes sense. And so I
- 3:53Speaker 2: think if it last one, I know I'm talking a lot.
- 3:55Speaker 2: You guys get me excited about ball. I texted KP
- 3:57Speaker 2: last night at twelve thirty, so I was like, the
- 4:00Speaker 2: that's what I say. The Mets can't win the rest
- 4:02Speaker 2: of them until they win the first one, so they're
- 4:04Speaker 2: off and running. But like I think of it like
- 4:06Speaker 2: a par three. If I have water to the left
- 4:10Speaker 2: and you know, green to the right and rough and
- 4:12Speaker 2: stuff like that, my miss should be right. So the
- 4:15Speaker 2: way I thought it was, if I miss this ball,
- 4:17Speaker 2: if I'm hitting I'm an imperfect person, I want to
- 4:20Speaker 2: make sure I get it over the infielders heads. There's
- 4:23Speaker 2: less outfielders and more space to cover, and if I
- 4:26Speaker 2: really want to do damage, I'm probably going to need
- 4:28Speaker 2: to play in the right center field gap against the
- 4:30Speaker 2: right fielder more likely than not, because I'm not a giant.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It's like giants get to play against the all outfielder,
- 4:36Speaker 2: you know. And so that's been some of it that
- 4:39Speaker 2: I've seen. It's like strikeouts, pop ups, pull ground balls,
- 4:42Speaker 2: and fly balls. The other way is like it's it's
- 4:45Speaker 2: like that's tough living.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Yeah, how does the entire organization just be late to
- 4:51Speaker 5: the fastball? Is there something conversation you see their work
- 4:55Speaker 5: on the field. And then my second question is what
- 4:58Speaker 5: have you seen with Bobashet specifically that maybe gives you
- 5:01Speaker 5: some optimism that he could be turning the corner, because
- 5:04Speaker 5: up until this point I would put him in a
- 5:06Speaker 5: handful of who I thought was arguably one of the
- 5:09Speaker 5: top five best hitters because he can do everything great
- 5:12Speaker 5: on baseball field.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll probably because the bow win's fresh in my
- 5:16Speaker 2: mind right now, is that he's just like the rest
- 5:19Speaker 2: of the club. He struggled to hit a double, you
- 5:20Speaker 2: know what I mean, And so it just it takes
- 5:22Speaker 2: a lot to hit, you know, three singles to get
- 5:25Speaker 2: a run. We saw him hit a double last night.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Now it was low and so that's not the most
- 5:31Speaker 2: conducive to long term success. I think it's like seven
- 5:34Speaker 2: percent of ground balls go for extra bases. What I think,
- 5:37Speaker 2: like you said, that bow excels at is is even
- 5:40Speaker 2: when he's not slugging, which I think he will he's
- 5:43Speaker 2: not right now, but when he gets other runners on
- 5:45Speaker 2: in front of him, he's so accurate and can use
- 5:48Speaker 2: the whole field. When the defense has to shift around
- 5:51Speaker 2: to account for the guys on base, it creates more
- 5:54Speaker 2: holes for him. Like he's probably one of the best
- 5:56Speaker 2: at being able to hit that three four hole, you
- 5:58Speaker 2: know what I mean. With the runner on first, it
- 5:59Speaker 2: looked like he was trying to shoot it last night
- 6:01Speaker 2: and end up skipping it right to the second baseman.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I've as far as the fastball, like I'll tell you
- 6:09Speaker 2: kp like I would be trying to hit a draw foul,
- 6:12Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like, I'm gonna get here
- 6:14Speaker 2: on time. I'm gonna get forward and I'm gonna hook
- 6:17Speaker 2: this ball high and pull so that I can feel
- 6:20Speaker 2: where the contact point is. Because I think that if
- 6:24Speaker 2: I'm willing, if I'm able to get in a position
- 6:27Speaker 2: to hit a draw, a nice high drawl over the
- 6:29Speaker 2: right fielder's head for a double or a homer as
- 6:33Speaker 2: I go to get into contact, if I catch it
- 6:35Speaker 2: deep in the zone, you know what I mean, and
- 6:37Speaker 2: late barrel it back of the window contact window, those
- 6:40Speaker 2: will be the balls that get shot the other way.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Does that make sense? Because I'm matching the plane of
- 6:44Speaker 2: the pitch, so if I catch it deep, I could
- 6:46Speaker 2: shoot it, but if I catch it out front, you
- 6:49Speaker 2: kind of like get it up in the air. And
- 6:51Speaker 2: for me as a lefty, like I wanted to get
- 6:53Speaker 2: it over the first and second basement. I'd like to
- 6:56Speaker 2: probably see the Mets take a little bit more shots
- 6:58Speaker 2: at that open hole as well too, with their life
- 7:00Speaker 2: tanted hitters, Like that's an advantage that we. I don't
- 7:02Speaker 2: know how you right handers do it. You guys are
- 7:04Speaker 2: on the wrong side of the plate. It's it's good
- 7:06Speaker 2: for you. Never understand how you see David Wright like,
- 7:10Speaker 2: I just never understand it because like I get to
- 7:13Speaker 2: like I want that when that hole opens up, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 2: when Baty gets in there, or even Carson Binge as
- 7:19Speaker 2: well too, I would be explaining as like, hey, that
- 7:22Speaker 2: giant holes open up. If you hit that hole high,
- 7:25Speaker 2: it's gonna be a double or a homer, and if
- 7:27Speaker 2: you happen to miss and hit it low, we can
- 7:30Speaker 2: go first to third. So that's another one.
- 7:35Speaker 3: There are more than seventy thousand events listed on the
- 7:39Speaker 3: sea Geek app So if you're looking to do basically
- 7:42Speaker 3: anything this spring or summer, there's one place to go.
- 7:44Speaker 6: Seakeek has all the concerts baseball games, World Cup tickets.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Whatever you need is on seke. Trust me, I'm gonna
- 7:51Speaker 6: be hitting some concerts and some festivals this summer. I'm
- 7:54Speaker 6: gonna be looking for sek.
- 7:56Speaker 3: I can't wait to see Aj adding the best tickets
- 7:59Speaker 3: he can for concerts and festivals.
- 8:01Speaker 1: We'll get plenty of pictures there.
- 8:03Speaker 3: But also when he's looking, what he does is he
- 8:05Speaker 3: looks for when he's going to, say an arena for
- 8:07Speaker 3: a concert, a green dot meaning he's got a good
- 8:10Speaker 3: deal in a good spot.
- 8:11Speaker 1: That's where Seekeek helps you out.
- 8:12Speaker 3: With over thirty five million downloads, Seekeek is the number
- 8:15Speaker 3: one rated ticketing app, and of course we have the
- 8:17Speaker 3: code for the FT network Territory ten for ten percent
- 8:22Speaker 3: off your next set of tickets at sea Geek. That's
- 8:24Speaker 3: ten percent off any tickets with the promo code Territory
- 8:27Speaker 3: one zero. Make sure you click the link in the
- 8:29Speaker 3: description to download the app and have the code automatically
- 8:32Speaker 3: added to your account so you can use it later.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Props to see Geek.
- 8:37Speaker 7: Marv I, I would appreciate if you would never put
- 8:40Speaker 7: my name in David Wright's name in the same category,
- 8:43Speaker 7: because I know exactly I was definitely a left.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Handed right down there.
- 8:50Speaker 8: Take some figures, okay.
- 8:51Speaker 7: Yeah, and I gave up David Wright's last double a
- 8:54Speaker 7: home run on a knuckleball, oh two knuckleball in New Hampshire.
- 8:57Speaker 7: So yeah, I mean there's connections, but hitting wise, the
- 9:00Speaker 7: connections aren't there. I want to go to the Mets
- 9:02Speaker 7: team though. You were a guy that played a little
- 9:06Speaker 7: bit of first, some third, a lot of second. When
- 9:10Speaker 7: I look at some of your stats, you played some
- 9:12Speaker 7: of your best games, I mean your best seasons you
- 9:15Speaker 7: played majority second base. You have a Mets infield, a
- 9:18Speaker 7: Mets team all the way out to Juan Soto who
- 9:21Speaker 7: are playing different positions. Yesterday I said that could be
- 9:24Speaker 7: maybe going into a little bit of their offensive funk
- 9:27Speaker 7: as a team. Do you agree or not agree that
- 9:31Speaker 7: changing and learning a new position that you haven't ever
- 9:34Speaker 7: played in Boba Schet, Jorge Polonko, Brett Batty. I'm trying
- 9:39Speaker 7: to say Viento's barely played first base and that affect
- 9:42Speaker 7: your offense.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's. It's it's a lot of responsibility,
- 9:48Speaker 2: and I think the one it's probably fallen on the
- 9:50Speaker 2: most would be like Baty, because he's bounced around from
- 9:54Speaker 2: the outfield and played some first base. Now I think
- 9:56Speaker 2: that and Brett would I would say, would agree that
- 9:58Speaker 2: he should and feels like you should be swinging the
- 10:00Speaker 2: bat better than he is. But it is a lot
- 10:02Speaker 2: of responsibility to kind of learn a position at the
- 10:05Speaker 2: big league level. Like I couldn't learn left field at
- 10:08Speaker 2: the big league level. They kicked me out of there,
- 10:10Speaker 2: and then other people would question whether or not I
- 10:13Speaker 2: learned any of the positions on the infield either. That's
- 10:16Speaker 2: up for debate, but it is difficult to develop that,
- 10:19Speaker 2: you know, that skill set at the at the major
- 10:21Speaker 2: league level. You know, with first base, you thought it
- 10:25Speaker 2: was going to be Poloonco. It doesn't seem like he's
- 10:28Speaker 2: really been you know, healthy, at least since the kind
- 10:30Speaker 2: of the start of the season, So you almost wonder
- 10:33Speaker 2: how much you're going to run him out there since
- 10:34Speaker 2: he doesn't have those reps. I do think Baity can
- 10:36Speaker 2: do it. Vi Intos has been okay ish over there,
- 10:41Speaker 2: and I think that honestly, I'd say Boba Shepp, I
- 10:44Speaker 2: think he's done well at third, like I think he's
- 10:47Speaker 2: he looks he looks comfortable over there, and he's enough
- 10:50Speaker 2: of a veteran player that I don't think it should
- 10:53Speaker 2: affect his offense maybe as much as it may take
- 10:56Speaker 2: Brett Beadies and getting used to it's not a position changed.
- 11:00Speaker 2: But at the same time, like Carson Binge has got
- 11:03Speaker 2: putting a lot of responsibility on his plate. Is a
- 11:05Speaker 2: rookie you know this season like that, that's a ton
- 11:08Speaker 2: of responsibility that he's taken on and been given to
- 11:12Speaker 2: be in the lineup at least against right handed hitters,
- 11:15Speaker 2: and you know he hopefully is coming out of it.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I do like that he continues to run when he
- 11:20Speaker 2: gets on base. I think he's six for six stealing bases,
- 11:23Speaker 2: and that's like if I'm trying to get to second base,
- 11:27Speaker 2: a walk in, a stolen base, a single and a
- 11:29Speaker 2: stolen base. He even hit a fielders choice the other
- 11:31Speaker 2: night where he stole second and got into scoring position.
- 11:33Speaker 2: So it does feel like even though the league probably
- 11:38Speaker 2: he probably feels like it's coming at him fast right now,
- 11:40Speaker 2: he's still taking his chances to run and do what
- 11:43Speaker 2: he can. And he's been defending as well too. But
- 11:45Speaker 2: you know, all that to say, I think that Brett
- 11:46Speaker 2: Batty has been the one who's been given the most
- 11:49Speaker 2: responsibility with how he's been bouncing around almost in that
- 11:51Speaker 2: Jeff McNeil role that they had last year.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Yeah, we know how much Kevin Long means to you.
- 11:59Speaker 5: And we were just kind of discussing the Phillies struggles,
- 12:02Speaker 5: like kind of take us into your relationship with Kevin
- 12:05Speaker 5: Long and how.
- 12:06Speaker 8: You what do you see?
- 12:07Speaker 5: Do you see the Phillies getting out of this or
- 12:09Speaker 5: do you see this as a scenario where he's been
- 12:12Speaker 5: around the same people too long and maybe a change
- 12:15Speaker 5: needs to be made.
- 12:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I have it.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I talked to keV a little bit and I'll shoot
- 12:20Speaker 2: him text and I haven't quite got to follow the
- 12:22Speaker 2: Phillies as closely. I did see them, I'll probably I
- 12:26Speaker 2: did see them the other day when they played Atlanta,
- 12:27Speaker 2: and I'll do a quick Atlanta looks formidable. And the
- 12:30Speaker 2: reason I'll say that is they've starting pitched well and
- 12:33Speaker 2: been able to hold up as some guys coming back
- 12:36Speaker 2: from injury. Their offense looks to be, you know, back
- 12:39Speaker 2: and healthy. And then I when I saw him play Philly,
- 12:43Speaker 2: Bryce was in there as the go ahead run I
- 12:45Speaker 2: think his third of that, and then his fourth played appearance,
- 12:47Speaker 2: he was the tie in run and Atlanta was able
- 12:50Speaker 2: to run two left handers at him. They went bummer
- 12:53Speaker 2: and then Lee if I'm not mistaken, And I was like,
- 12:55Speaker 2: as soon as I saw that, I go, well, that's
- 12:57Speaker 2: that's postseason ball. Like this Atlanta club. They can score,
- 13:00Speaker 2: they can stop runs, and they can get the platoon
- 13:02Speaker 2: matchup with the other team's best player in the lineup,
- 13:06Speaker 2: and so like Atlanta can go. And then I think
- 13:08Speaker 2: I heard Scott talk about the left handed pitching that
- 13:11Speaker 2: they've struggled against, and that's that's where like you know,
- 13:15Speaker 2: Alec Bohme and Triple Tray, which out of Trey hasn't
- 13:18Speaker 2: had you know, a poor start of the year, but
- 13:21Speaker 2: you know it will be more difficult for Kyle and Bryce.
- 13:24Speaker 2: They're not as productive against left handed pitching, which they're
- 13:27Speaker 2: gonna get theirs. But if the other and the right
- 13:29Speaker 2: handers can kind of set the table for them, put
- 13:32Speaker 2: the pitcher in, you know, less favorable positions, opening up
- 13:36Speaker 2: poles on the defense, I think that'll help. But a
- 13:39Speaker 2: little bit more Honestly, I haven't watched them quite as
- 13:42Speaker 2: closely as I have as I have the Mets.
- 13:45Speaker 7: All right, So what is kay Long saying in situations
- 13:48Speaker 7: like this is what is he Yeah, there's certain like
- 13:51Speaker 7: tweaks that guys make, but going through slumps like this,
- 13:55Speaker 7: this is a guy who's won one with the Yankees,
- 13:57Speaker 7: he won with the Nats. He's just like he's gone places.
- 14:01Speaker 7: And to me, he's one of the best hitting coaches
- 14:04Speaker 7: that I've never had from what I've heard from guys.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say I know what I would say
- 14:10Speaker 2: to him. And most of the stuff I have is
- 14:12Speaker 2: stolen from Kevin Long and other people, which is when
- 14:14Speaker 2: you're going sideways like this, watch the scoreboard. Pay attention
- 14:19Speaker 2: to the scoreboard. It's going to let you know what
- 14:21Speaker 2: you need to do, and it can really take a
- 14:23Speaker 2: lot of stress off of you. If you've got a
- 14:24Speaker 2: runner on second base with nobody out, the name of
- 14:27Speaker 2: the game is he has to be touching third base
- 14:29Speaker 2: at the end of this at bat, you know what
- 14:31Speaker 2: I mean, at the least, and if he's not, it's
- 14:33Speaker 2: because you died trying, all right. So if you're afraid
- 14:37Speaker 2: that you're a guy that's going to strike out, then
- 14:39Speaker 2: maybe before you get to two strikes and the picture
- 14:42Speaker 2: puts his weapon on you for the swing and miss,
- 14:44Speaker 2: you take a one strike swing to move him over
- 14:47Speaker 2: and make sure and hopefully you take a good enough
- 14:49Speaker 2: swing to get him over and in. But he's got
- 14:51Speaker 2: to get to third base. And it's the same idea
- 14:53Speaker 2: with the runner on third in less than two outs.
- 14:56Speaker 2: If you're leading an inning off and the picture has
- 14:58Speaker 2: been struggling to get strikes one or you know what
- 15:00Speaker 2: I mean, or getting deep in the counts and not
- 15:02Speaker 2: as accurate today, maybe you take a strike, you know
- 15:04Speaker 2: what I mean. It's like the scoreboard will take a
- 15:07Speaker 2: massive amount of stress off of the hitter and the
- 15:09Speaker 2: players because it tells us what we need to do.
- 15:12Speaker 2: If it's the bottom of the eighth inning and the
- 15:15Speaker 2: time runs on first base and I'm up to bet,
- 15:17Speaker 2: I'm trying to hit a double, so I then where
- 15:19Speaker 2: are my doubles? I'm not strong like you Cratzy. I
- 15:22Speaker 2: don't have doubles in left center field. I don't. I
- 15:24Speaker 2: don't go there. My double's going to be down the
- 15:26Speaker 2: right field line, and I've also got that hole open.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Now Am I better suited right now? In this position?
- 15:32Speaker 2: Do I feel better about picking a fastball to hit
- 15:33Speaker 2: a double or breaking ball to hit a double? It
- 15:36Speaker 2: depends on the hitter. Like if you think you got
- 15:38Speaker 2: a better chance of hitting a breaking ball for a double,
- 15:40Speaker 2: go look for a breaking ball. You know what I mean.
- 15:42Speaker 2: If you think it's a fastball, go look for a fastball.
- 15:44Speaker 2: If you miss early in the count, you know, to
- 15:46Speaker 2: get one strike, miss high and foul because I get
- 15:49Speaker 2: to hit again. And so I think the scoreboard and
- 15:53Speaker 2: the situation of the game, if you could just get
- 15:56Speaker 2: intimately involved in an into that, it'll take all the
- 16:01Speaker 2: stress and the decision making, honestly a lot of it
- 16:04Speaker 2: out of your hands. And just like, what am I
- 16:06Speaker 2: going to do in this situation? What is the game
- 16:08Speaker 2: asking me to do?
- 16:10Speaker 5: Merph We all know how difficult it could be to
- 16:12Speaker 5: play in New York, and there's no secret they lost
- 16:15Speaker 5: twelve in a row. Does it help a little bit
- 16:17Speaker 5: that the Phillies haven't been any good? Does it take
- 16:19Speaker 5: a little pressure off them? Or bands are still ready
- 16:22Speaker 5: to write?
- 16:24Speaker 2: I think that it's been good for Philly that the
- 16:27Speaker 2: Mets haven't played so well, because I didn't, you know,
- 16:29Speaker 2: I didn't realize it was seven in a row until yesterday.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I think I was watching FT and then they lost
- 16:34Speaker 2: again last night, and.
- 16:35Speaker 9: So I think it's good that nobody looks to be
- 16:42Speaker 9: not multiple teams are kind of running away with the
- 16:45Speaker 9: division or extending that lead.
- 16:46Speaker 2: It's just it's been Atlanta so far. At the same time,
- 16:50Speaker 2: you got to get to win in some ball games,
- 16:52Speaker 2: and so the Mets won one last night and they'll
- 16:54Speaker 2: get a chance to win a series this evening. But
- 16:56Speaker 2: you know, when you go and lose for two weeks straight,
- 16:59Speaker 2: like that kind of belongs to you now, like that
- 17:01Speaker 2: is like, that's that's that's stick to your soul, you
- 17:04Speaker 2: know what I mean, like lose twelve straight ball games.
- 17:07Speaker 2: But the beauty of our game is you have an
- 17:08Speaker 2: opportunity if to go, you know, you won a ball
- 17:11Speaker 2: game last night, and then I think you got to
- 17:13Speaker 2: try to change kind of the equation or how you're
- 17:15Speaker 2: thinking about it today. Isn't you know, let's you know,
- 17:18Speaker 2: let's win, let's go what you know twelve? You know,
- 17:21Speaker 2: two and twelve, it's can we win a series? Can
- 17:23Speaker 2: we win a series? And Minnesota gets out of here
- 17:25Speaker 2: and then we bring in the Rockies and then the
- 17:27Speaker 2: Nats come in, which I'm heading up to do the
- 17:29Speaker 2: Nats series at the end of this home stand, so
- 17:31Speaker 2: I've been trying to follow them pretty closely because this
- 17:33Speaker 2: is this is like this is the season in my opinion,
- 17:38Speaker 2: and I kind of equated it to this. I got
- 17:40Speaker 2: my Jaguars head on is like I think it was
- 17:42Speaker 2: two years ago the Jaguars went to play Buffalo on
- 17:44Speaker 2: a Monday night game. We were like one in three.
- 17:46Speaker 2: I think it was like it felt like one of
- 17:47Speaker 2: those must win games, and we went there and got
- 17:49Speaker 2: our teeth kicked in by Josh Allen, like just beat us.
- 17:52Speaker 2: We didn't even make it the second quarter. But the
- 17:55Speaker 2: rest of the season we played okay ish, you know,
- 17:58Speaker 2: middle of the pack. So when you got to the
- 18:00Speaker 2: of the year, is like the defensive stats looked okay,
- 18:02Speaker 2: the offensive stats looked okay. But when you look at
- 18:05Speaker 2: the season, in my opinion, when it was when the
- 18:07Speaker 2: moments were really there, you didn't make the plays and
- 18:11Speaker 2: so the season was over in the first you know,
- 18:13Speaker 2: quarter of it. And so right now, if you're the Mets,
- 18:15Speaker 2: you don't you don't want to let this keep going.
- 18:17Speaker 2: You want to try to build some momentum off of
- 18:20Speaker 2: last night because these are the moments right now, which
- 18:22Speaker 2: really stinks that you know, Lindor went loud last night,
- 18:25Speaker 2: like that's that's that's tough.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Support for today's episode comes from Square, and they've got
- 18:32Speaker 3: big news. During squar's biannual Releases event, they launched a
- 18:35Speaker 3: wave of innovative new tools to help local businesses run faster, smarter,

- 18:40Speaker 1: Square is awesome.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Around Orlando, where AJ and I live, we go to

- 18:46Speaker 3: near Lake Iola.
- 18:47Speaker 1: It's awesome. I use Square to pay with my phone.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I get the receipt right away.
- 18:51Speaker 2: It's great.
- 18:51Speaker 6: And so many businesses, not just small businesses, uses. So
- 18:54Speaker 6: many restaurants and businesses I walk into, not only in Orlando,
- 18:56Speaker 6: but all over the country have these. Just use your
- 19:00Speaker 6: credit card, pops out, or receipt emails.
- 19:03Speaker 8: It right to you.
- 19:04Speaker 6: It's so fast, it's so efficient, it's so hassle free.
- 19:06Speaker 6: It's one of the great things that you have going.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Square launched its most powerful tools yet, designed to give
- 19:12Speaker 3: local businesses a competitive edge without the complexity. If you're

- 19:23Speaker 3: Square dot com slash go slash f o u L
- 19:26Speaker 3: run your business smarter with square get started today.
- 19:29Speaker 8: I'm gonna hit.
- 19:30Speaker 7: I'm gonna hit something that's going really well. And you
- 19:33Speaker 7: were done in the big leagues at thirty four, thirty five.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Thirty five, But I did go back and play in
- 19:39Speaker 2: the bushes at thirty eight. Don't forget you.
- 19:41Speaker 8: You joined me in Triple A. You tried, you tried.
- 19:44Speaker 8: I get that my thing.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Independent league first.
- 19:47Speaker 8: Dude, that's that's the real bushes. That's a real bush.
- 19:51Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you were you were grinding. The kids
- 19:54Speaker 7: were young, the kids were young. It was it was
- 19:58Speaker 7: time to take a break. You needed, you need to
- 19:59Speaker 7: be a way for naps. But my question is Mike
- 20:02Speaker 7: Trout what he's doing out in LA. Do you feel
- 20:06Speaker 7: like it's a blip on the radar? But you can't
- 20:08Speaker 7: explain this in without using You can't say the word
- 20:12Speaker 7: injury in any of your explanation of what Mike Trout
- 20:16Speaker 7: is going to do the rest of the year. Because
- 20:18Speaker 7: you watch baseball, you see you know the highlights of
- 20:21Speaker 7: his swings. Do you think it's a resurgence or do
- 20:25Speaker 7: you think this is what Mike Trout's going to be
- 20:27Speaker 7: able to do for X amount of years going forward.
- 20:30Speaker 2: All right, So I'm gonna I'm gonna skirt your question
- 20:33Speaker 2: and not say injury, but I'm gonna kind of when
- 20:35Speaker 2: Mike is available, he's productive, full stop, like he's Roger Hornsby.
- 20:40Speaker 2: I look at his ops plus for his career is
- 20:42Speaker 2: like one seventy, Like that's Roger Hornsby territory. And we
- 20:45Speaker 2: don't see stuff like that. So when Mike is available,
- 20:48Speaker 2: he's productive, he looks, he looks great, like he just
- 20:51Speaker 2: he he looks great to me. And he's always walked,
- 20:56Speaker 2: which I have, I hopefully a healthy envy of people
- 20:59Speaker 2: who can walk, because I never could do it. I
- 21:01Speaker 2: just didn't have it in me. And so I think
- 21:03Speaker 2: that raises his floor so much because he's always going
- 21:06Speaker 2: to have that ability to get the first base, which
- 21:09Speaker 2: like David Wright was able to. I watched him, like
- 21:11Speaker 2: David would go out there and I would know he
- 21:13Speaker 2: wouldn't be feeling great, but he'd go one for three
- 21:16Speaker 2: with a double in a walk and touch home played
- 21:18Speaker 2: at least once, you know what I mean. It's like
- 21:20Speaker 2: I don't I'm out here, I don't walk at all.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I got to get two hits a night to survive.
- 21:25Speaker 2: That's like, you can't, that's you don't. You can't live
- 21:27Speaker 2: that way. It's hard, that's hard to live that way.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And so, yeah, Mike has been He's I love tuning
- 21:32Speaker 2: into him. He's one of my absolute favorites to watch.
- 21:36Speaker 2: I mean him Sodo Aaron Judge, like, these guys are
- 21:40Speaker 2: a special show. Hey, special players.
- 21:45Speaker 8: You're on You're on a show with two other dudes
- 21:47Speaker 8: that didn't walk either. So yeah, good, you're a good company.
- 21:51Speaker 2: We were just a suggestion.
- 21:52Speaker 7: Yeah, secrets, our secrets here, our secrets, save our secrets.
- 21:59Speaker 7: Safe you're swinging is a safe, safe place to be.
- 22:02Speaker 7: You just mentioned him. A lot's been brought up about
- 22:05Speaker 7: the Otani rule. Do you feel like it's fair that
- 22:09Speaker 7: the Dodgers get an extra pitcher based on the fact
- 22:14Speaker 7: that Otani's rule is not really eligible?
- 22:18Speaker 8: Nobody's really nobody else. Nobody else can do this.
- 22:21Speaker 7: You have it, nobody can do nobody can do it
- 22:23Speaker 7: at his level, but nobody can even qualify, So essentially
- 22:27Speaker 7: it is only the rules.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a nice bit of a cheat code
- 22:34Speaker 2: to be able to carry the extra pitcher, and it
- 22:37Speaker 2: makes the cheat code because show. He goes out there
- 22:39Speaker 2: with he goes six shutout innings last night, Like, this
- 22:41Speaker 2: guy's in a tree. It's unreal. This guy is in
- 22:44Speaker 2: a tree. I was, what do you I mean, I'm
- 22:46Speaker 2: asking a question with a question. I'm I'm more maybe
- 22:49Speaker 2: upset or would want to have a talk about when
- 22:52Speaker 2: he pitches and comes out of the game. I think
- 22:55Speaker 2: he should come out of the DH spot as well too.
- 22:57Speaker 2: I don't think you should get to stay in the game.
- 22:59Speaker 8: See, I'm that's.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I would probably take them both, to be honest with you,
- 23:05Speaker 2: I think it Like listening to Craig Council, I thought
- 23:07Speaker 2: he made a reasonable argument. It was interesting. D Rs.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Dave Roberts response was just like a little bit of
- 23:14Speaker 2: boo boo. But hey, when you're the world chance two
- 23:16Speaker 2: times you get to you get to pick right and
- 23:19Speaker 2: then and the Dodgers and Andrew Friedman the way they
- 23:22Speaker 2: handle show, hey and use that to their advantage. They're
- 23:25Speaker 2: only they're playing by the rules that are set for
- 23:28Speaker 2: everyone else, and so it doesn't bother me. I do
- 23:31Speaker 2: think that it's Craig is like, is there a discussion
- 23:33Speaker 2: that needs to be had here? I but I think
- 23:35Speaker 2: that when he comes out of the game pitching. I
- 23:37Speaker 2: think he should come out of that. He shouldn't be
- 23:38Speaker 2: able to continue to d H And then I'd probably
- 23:41Speaker 2: say I'm probably closer to Leana with counsel that he
- 23:46Speaker 2: he should count as a pitcher.
- 23:49Speaker 5: Murph, you've checked out more comedy at.
- 23:51Speaker 2: All and homers every night see up to five.
- 24:00Speaker 5: He's also touching first base. I think he's got twenty
- 24:02Speaker 5: four walks on the year.
- 24:04Speaker 2: What's his punch, Sorry, I'm putting you on there a lot.
- 24:07Speaker 8: It's like thirty thirty eight for it. There's a lot
- 24:09Speaker 8: a punch in the game too.
- 24:11Speaker 2: It's a pretty swing for some of them.
- 24:15Speaker 5: But there was talks about him coming over and maybe
- 24:18Speaker 5: not getting the money. Everyone thought he They were trying
- 24:21Speaker 5: to predict that he couldn't catch up to the major
- 24:23Speaker 5: league fastball. I think he's proven a lot of people
- 24:25Speaker 5: wrong right now.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you're gonna slug like this and walk that.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Just the walk. The walk is a single, you know,
- 24:32Speaker 2: the walk to me is a single. So if you're
- 24:34Speaker 2: able to do it, I think as he learns the
- 24:37Speaker 2: league and understands it, and also he's got this guys,
- 24:39Speaker 2: hopefully he starts pulling that strikeout rate down a little
- 24:42Speaker 2: bit because I think of it this way. Each each
- 24:44Speaker 2: time you're able to put the ball and play, we
- 24:46Speaker 2: see what you do with it, you know, And so
- 24:48Speaker 2: the more opportunities you give yourself a chance to do it,
- 24:51Speaker 2: maybe it's not a home run every time, maybe it's
- 24:53Speaker 2: a double, or maybe it's just a bullet to drive
- 24:54Speaker 2: someone in. And I haven't watched him closely enough, but
- 24:58Speaker 2: hopefully he's changing his coach with the situation because a
- 25:02Speaker 2: runner on second with two outs, I'm more likely to
- 25:05Speaker 2: try to hit one low the other way? Does that
- 25:07Speaker 2: make sense? Especially if I get to two strikes, Like
- 25:10Speaker 2: my bailout is going to be shooting through the five
- 25:12Speaker 2: to six soul because there's only going to be one
- 25:14Speaker 2: defender over there in the modern game, because they're going
- 25:16Speaker 2: to be playing shortstop up the middle, first and second
- 25:19Speaker 2: basement are going to be playing to take away the
- 25:20Speaker 2: pool ground ball. So if I'm gonna miss low, I
- 25:23Speaker 2: got to miss the other way in order in order
- 25:26Speaker 2: to have success long term. You know, runner on first again,
- 25:29Speaker 2: you could take your shot to hit a double. So
- 25:32Speaker 2: I would say, what this success he's having, he's probably
- 25:34Speaker 2: his approach is hopefully changing with the situation.
- 25:37Speaker 8: Where's that line?
- 25:39Speaker 7: Where's that line between dingers and strikeouts and not as
- 25:44Speaker 7: many dingers and less strikeouts.
- 25:48Speaker 8: Where's that line?
- 25:49Speaker 9: What is that?
- 25:50Speaker 2: It's a situation like it like we're down three and
- 25:54Speaker 2: I got two guys on I'm taking a shot at
- 25:58Speaker 2: least one, probably take two. If I don't think that
- 26:02Speaker 2: you can strike me out, I'll take some version of
- 26:04Speaker 2: three shots at it. At least it hit a double,
- 26:07Speaker 2: all right?
- 26:07Speaker 7: Now?
- 26:08Speaker 2: If you got a weapon for me with two strikes,
- 26:10Speaker 2: then I'll give something up. If we get that far
- 26:13Speaker 2: and work a little lower the other way and kind
- 26:15Speaker 2: of over the second basement's head to the pool side.
- 26:18Speaker 2: But first and second, no strikes and one strike. If
- 26:21Speaker 2: I'm the tying run like later, I'm trying to touch
- 26:24Speaker 2: them all and if I happen to not too hopefully
- 26:27Speaker 2: it's a double. And if I do miss, I can
- 26:29Speaker 2: always miss foul love that.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good stuff, you know me. I'm just sitting
- 26:36Speaker 3: learning about hitting here with these three.
- 26:38Speaker 2: This is good.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Murphy're the mat really.
- 26:41Speaker 8: One of us, one of us, one of us was
- 26:43Speaker 8: a good hitter on here.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Yeah, but you guys ask me questions about it. I
- 26:47Speaker 4: like to hear your questions.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Kathpk new was up. I was those I was looking
- 26:52Speaker 2: I love finger, I was looking at bumpy stole. What
- 26:55Speaker 2: twenty five bags in fifteen? Like we got to get
- 26:58Speaker 2: to second base? Christy Maddy he syonce said, it's the
- 27:00Speaker 2: most important ninety feet in baseball. You can feel in
- 27:03Speaker 2: a game when a runner gets in scoring position, Cratsey
- 27:06Speaker 2: is the catcher. The whole thing changes the way you
- 27:09Speaker 2: call the game. Like you because one base hit to
- 27:12Speaker 2: score a run is different than having to hit a double,
- 27:15Speaker 2: and so it's just completely different. So if you can
- 27:18Speaker 2: figure out how to get to second base, you could
- 27:20Speaker 2: play this game for a while. I didn't run a ton.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I ran a little bit one year. I was able
- 27:26Speaker 2: for a bit to hit a double. And then as
- 27:29Speaker 2: I was hopefully learning the league and hitting enough doubles
- 27:32Speaker 2: to get more at bats, I run into Kevin Long
- 27:35Speaker 2: and Pat rosslers like, hey, why don't you try to
- 27:37Speaker 2: hit a home at a right center. I was like,
- 27:39Speaker 2: all right, that sounds like fun. And I happened to
- 27:41Speaker 2: crack one or two, you know, early in it, and
- 27:44Speaker 2: have some success, and I was like, you know what,
- 27:46Speaker 2: it's way more fun to play against the right fielder
- 27:48Speaker 2: than it is a short stuff. I kind of dig
- 27:50Speaker 2: this action. I'm gonna start doing this more. I'lmost see
- 27:52Speaker 2: if I could play against the right fielder instead of
- 27:54Speaker 2: the third baseman. Yeah, it worked.
- 27:58Speaker 4: I mean the one other quick example on this stolen
- 28:00Speaker 4: base front.
- 28:00Speaker 3: I mean, no one thought of Juan Soto as a
- 28:03Speaker 3: Steed speed demon, and then last year he's walking and
- 28:06Speaker 3: it's like, cool, that's a double.
- 28:08Speaker 2: That's a double.
- 28:08Speaker 4: That's double.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Happened many many times, surprisingly, which which was cool. I
- 28:13Speaker 3: like the way he added that speed component to his game.
- 28:15Speaker 3: We'll see if he does it now coming off the
- 28:17Speaker 3: calf injury.
- 28:18Speaker 4: Murphy' the man. Great catching up, dude. We always love
- 28:20Speaker 4: having you on y'all.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Thank you, fellows, good ball talk y'all. Got a buck show.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Walter coming on too. He's a tree. Yeah, and Pat
- 28:27Speaker 2: two and Pat.
- 28:30Speaker 3: This is an episode that Murph will go besides the
- 28:33Speaker 3: Murph Park because he was just on it. You're he's
- 28:35Speaker 3: listening later in the car, no doubt.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Bird, your loins get him with Jonathan Jacksonville Florida as
- 28:42Speaker 2: well too. He's a nine oh four fellow, not even
- 28:44Speaker 2: he's not live here now, but have a blast.
- 28:47Speaker 8: We got he's in a sip. He's in the simp.
- 28:50Speaker 7: Jacksonville now, Jacksonville Jaguar fans, everybody out there. Murph did
- 28:55Speaker 7: not play one snap, even though he said we lost
- 28:59Speaker 7: to Josh Allen.
- 29:00Speaker 4: We not play ticket holders.
- 29:02Speaker 2: So what you're talking about, you go watch out. I'm
- 29:05Speaker 2: n d up running on the field. Crats he making
- 29:06Speaker 2: a tackle. You're not careful. This is we nine oh
- 29:09Speaker 2: four is in the bloodstream. At your age, you would break.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I am sorry, I would break. You have to shovel
- 29:14Speaker 2: me off. They had to shovel me off of Albuquerque.
