- 0:01John chapter 21, let us pray. O Lord, our heavenly Father, we
- 0:09love you. Lord Jesus, we thank you, God,
- 0:12for all the many blessings that you've already given us.
- 0:15Lord, we thank you for life and life abundant.
- 0:18Father, we thank you for family. Lord, we thank you for the love
- 0:22that we can share with each other.
- 0:24Lord, we thank you for community.
- 0:26God, we thank you for forgiving our sins.
- 0:29Father, we thank, thank you for life and life abundant.
- 0:31God, we thank you for the promise of eternity.
- 0:34We thank you, God that where you are we will be.
- 0:38Father, we thank you for all the holy scriptures of the old.
- 0:41We thank you for all the men and women who have gone before us,
- 0:45Lord who have set the table, Lord who have set the way.
- 0:49Lord, who have helped us, Lord, to understand all of your
- 0:53thoughts and your minds. Thank you God for those that
- 0:56have laid down their lives. God, for the good news, God of
- 1:01your gospel. Lord, I thank you for the Lord
- 1:03Jesus Christ, the chief cornerstone.
- 1:06Lord, everything is placed upon him.
- 1:08Lord, everything, Lord, seen and unseen.
- 1:11Lord, all of the created Father, Lord, we know is from your
- 1:18breath. And so Lord, we just get out of
- 1:20our own way. Lord, we just laid down our
- 1:24precepts. We laid down all of our own
- 1:26preconceived ideas and notions of the word of God.
- 1:31And Lord, we empty ourselves, of ourselves and ask you, Holy
- 1:35Spirit, to teach us. We ask you, Holy Spirit, to come
- 1:39in and give us discernment and give us the mind of Christ and
- 1:42help us to understand these Holy Scriptures.
- 1:45Help us to understand what it is that you want to say to this
- 1:49generation for such a day as this God, for such a time as
- 1:53this, Lord, we just ask that you will give us your thoughts and
- 1:58give us your words, Lord. Help us to obey all of the
- 2:03promises that you have given us in this book, God.
- 2:06Help us to obey and help us to know that you were near and that
- 2:10you're fighting our battles, Lord.
- 2:11And we put on the full armor of God.
- 2:13Today, Lord, we go to war. Today we ascend the hill.
- 2:17Today, God, we push against darkness and against all of the
- 2:22evil spirits, Lord, and all of of the demonic haunts that are
- 2:27trying to overtake and overpower us.
- 2:29Lord, we push against all that. Father, in the name of Jesus, I
- 2:32pray that you will help us to be able to identify all of the
- 2:37times the enemy is trying to whisper lies to us.
- 2:40Lord, I pray against all of the deception.
- 2:43Lord, I pray that we will be able to have the mind of Christ
- 2:48and be able to have a sound mind and to be able to understand and
- 2:52have the discernment to know when it is your voice, God, that
- 2:56is speaking to us. I pray, God, that we will quiet
- 3:00our lives, that we will be able to sit and to be still and to
- 3:04know that you're God and to know, Lord, that you answer our
- 3:08prayers and we can come into the throne room, God boldly, that we
- 3:13can come into the holiest of holy places, God, and we can
- 3:17dine and we can Sup with you, Lord, as you prepare the banquet
- 3:21for us, God, I pray that you will help us to be empowered
- 3:25from on high. Fill us with the Holy Ghost
- 3:27today, Lord, Help us to know that you are in the room, that
- 3:32you're right here in the midst, God, and that you are well
- 3:35pleased. And Lord, we ask for healing
- 3:38today. God, we ask that you'll heal our
- 3:41broken body today. Heal broken marriages today.
- 3:45God, bring the prodigals home today.
- 3:48Lord, I pray that you'll protect those that are on the front
- 3:51lines. Lord, I pray in the name of
- 3:53Jesus that the whole world will go out to the whole world.
- 3:57Father, we love you. King Jesus, we love everything
- 4:00about you. King Jesus, God Almighty, we
- 4:04love you. Yes, Holy Spirit, I decrease as
- 4:08you increase. You teach us, hide me and hide
- 4:12my words, hide my thoughts, and you speak Holy Spirit in Jesus
- 4:18Christ. Holy and precious name I pray,
- 4:24Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 4:31After these things, Jesus showed himself again to the disciples
- 4:37at the sea of Tiberius, and on this wise showed he himself.
- 4:43So we know that he told him to go into Galilee and that he
- 4:46would go there. This was after the upper room.
- 4:50This was after they had returned back to wait on the Holy Ghost.
- 4:56And then here they've gone out and we know that they were
- 5:01fishermen. He picked so many different
- 5:04fishermen, and we can only surmise about this profession.
- 5:11And we know that we are called to be fishers of men.
- 5:15And that took a lot of patience and a lot of hard work to be the
- 5:20fisherman. And Jesus didn't go into the
- 5:22synagogues. He didn't go into the temple, he
- 5:25didn't go to the Sanhedrin, he didn't go and get any of the
- 5:30priests. He went and found unlearned men
- 5:35because he did not have to deprogram them to be able to
- 5:40reprogram them. And here he took men who were a
- 5:44clean slate, who did not have any presuppositions, and he
- 5:49built them up to be the apostles and built them up to be the
- 5:53messengers, friends. And isn't it amazing that he's
- 5:57still doing the same today? We can get so messed up in our
- 6:01theology technology by allowing man to have a louder voice in
- 6:05our lives than the Holy Scriptures.
- 6:10We need to be in tune with God's Word from Genesis to Revelation.
- 6:15We need to devour God's Word. And I'm so thankful that you're
- 6:20on this faith journey with me. Get in the good book, read it
- 6:27chronologically, systematically, read it from Matthew all the way
- 6:33back to Malachi. And when you get done with
- 6:35Malachi, start back in Matthew and read it and devour it
- 6:41friends and you will begin to understand it as the Holy Spirit
- 6:46reveals Scripture, that it interprets Scripture and we
- 6:51cannot be extra biblical. It is not the Bible plus
- 6:57anything else friends. It is the Bible and only the
- 7:02Bible that is useful and profitable to save men's souls.
- 7:07Nothing added and nothing taken away.
- 7:12Two their work together, Simon Peter and Simon called, and
- 7:18Thomas called, Didymus and Nathaniel of Cana in Galilee,
- 7:23and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
- 7:28So we know that these seven were out fishing the Sea of Galilee.
- 7:35Here 3 Simon Peter said unto them, I go a fishing.
- 7:42And they say unto him, We also go with you.
- 7:45And they went forth and entered into a ship immediately.
- 7:49And that night they caught nothing.
- 7:51You know, this shows us that we can be quick after we get
- 7:58dismayed and after we get offended by the Lord and that
- 8:04His ways are not our ways. We can be quick to return back
- 8:08to our previous lifestyle of just going back fishing.
- 8:12And they were called to go and take the word to the whole
- 8:16world. We know that these men sold out
- 8:20to the Lord Jesus Christ for three years and here they're
- 8:24trying to figure it all out. And we get a front seat, front
- 8:30row seat to the whole scene and we can see these 7 going out and
- 8:36it's unprofitable. They've spent all night toiling
- 8:41to no avail. And it is only by following the
- 8:46Lord Jesus Christ that will ever produce any fruit.
- 8:50It's by falling in love with Jesus Christ first.
- 8:56It's by following Jesus Christ only that we can be profitable
- 9:03and that we can actually see mountains move and oceans part
- 9:09and people come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 9:12He is the one that does all the work.
- 9:14We are only His messengers. We only repeat the words that He
- 9:19has given us. It is not charisma, it is not
- 9:23flash, it's not a show, It's not emotions.
- 9:28It is the word of God that is profitable for people to be
- 9:32saved. And we just repeat the words
- 9:36that we read and memorize and store deep down in the recesses
- 9:41of our minds and hearts. And we have hidden His word in
- 9:45our hearts, so that we might not sin against Him.
- 9:49For but when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore.
- 9:55But the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
- 9:58Perhaps He was afar off, and that is why they did not
- 10:03recognize Him. Perhaps in his resurrected
- 10:06state, there's something about him that is unrecognizable in
- 10:11the first five. Then Jesus said unto them,
- 10:16Children, have you any meat? And they answered him, no.
- 10:23So we can see this resurrected Jesus.
- 10:28He's calling his disciples little children.
- 10:31And we see that get modelled in first John and 2nd John and 3rd
- 10:37John, just little children. And that is how we must come to
- 10:41the Lord Jesus Christ with childlike faith.
- 10:45If you have outgrown that childlike faith, you shall not
- 10:48inherit the Kingdom of God. We must stay there, friends.
- 10:53We must believe that God can do anything.
- 10:57He is ABBA, He is our Father, He is Daddy.
- 11:02And we go to Him and we know that even in the know, there is
- 11:07much knowledge there that he knows why he has to say no.
- 11:12And it is to protect us from ourselves.
- 11:15And if we have too much, we'll forget about them.
- 11:17And if we don't have enough, we'll have to steal.
- 11:20And so he knows all these things.
- 11:22And so he is perfect in all of his ways.
- 11:26We just come to him like little children, and he's asking them,
- 11:33You don't have any meat because they were not doing what he had
- 11:37asked them to do. So this is him stating the
- 11:41facts. You don't have any meat.
- 11:44And they answered him, No, we don't. 6 And he said unto them,
- 11:49Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find
- 11:54they cast therefore. And now they were not able to
- 11:56draw in for the multitude of the fish.
- 11:59So we can see here. This is very similar to whenever
- 12:02he called Peter to himself. And Peter had been toiling all
- 12:06night and couldn't find anything.
- 12:07And this would have hearkened Peter's mind back to that
- 12:12moment. And it was in this moment that
- 12:16they recognized him. Seven Therefore that disciple
- 12:25whom Jesus loved said to Peter, It is the Lord.
- 12:30Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his
- 12:35Fisher's coat unto him, for he was naked, and did cast himself
- 12:40into the sea. So he had taken off all of his
- 12:44outer garments as he was fishing.
- 12:47And then as soon as he heard John tell him it is the Lord, he
- 12:52threw his garment on and jumped overboard.
- 12:57And I hope that that is the love that you have for the Savior.
- 13:00I hope that is such excitement at those words.
- 13:04It is the Lord. I hope that you can recognize
- 13:07when the Lord is in your midst. I hope that you can recognize
- 13:10when the Lord is in the room. I hope that you understand his
- 13:15presence in your life, and we should have the same excitement
- 13:20that Peter had, and we should be able to discern the Lord like
- 13:24John did. 8 And the other disciples came in a little ship,
- 13:32for they were not far from land, but as it were 200 cubits
- 13:36dragging the net with fishes. So we can see here that they
- 13:42caught a load and they were bringing it.
- 13:44They were trolling on to the shore. 9 As soon as as soon then
- 13:52as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and
- 13:59fish laid on it and bred. So imagine this.
- 14:03This is a lot of different scenes all coming together.
- 14:07This was whenever Peter was called with the whole net and
- 14:12the fish, and we know that that net was about to break and this
- 14:17net was put together. And we know that Jesus has
- 14:20already told us that in the end, there's going to be a lot of
- 14:22different fish that are caught and some will be thrown out and
- 14:28some will be kept. And we know that there's so much
- 14:31here, and the Lord is teaching them so many lessons in this one
- 14:35little scene. And he's teaching us for the
- 14:37ages so many different ideas and precepts about him and about his
- 14:43word and about the Kingdom. And here we can see this fire of
- 14:48coals that are very similar to whenever Peter denied him,
- 14:51whenever he was warming himself by the fire.
- 14:54We see the little fish in the bread, just like he did whenever
- 14:57he broke it. And gave to the multitudes, the
- 15:02thousands upon thousands upon thousands.
- 15:05There's so many images here that the Lord is using to get them
- 15:10back on track, to get them to see that He and His ways are
- 15:16much better than just going back to the vomit, going back to what
- 15:20they know, going back to their professions.
- 15:23He's calling them. He is reinstating them.
- 15:27He is showing them that his ways are much better than their own
- 15:32understanding. We cannot lean on our own
- 15:35understanding. We must trust the Lord.
- 15:37We must let him direct our steps.
- 15:40Friends 10 Jesus said unto them, Bring up the fish which you have
- 15:46now caught. 11 Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land full
- 15:52of great fishes. There was 153 for all.
- 15:57There were so many, yet was not the net broken?
- 16:03We can see that when we're operating in the flesh, the net
- 16:07is about to break, but when we operate in the Spirit and that's
- 16:11not broken, none of these will be lost. 12 Jesus said unto
- 16:16them, Come and dine, and none of the disciples dared ask him, Who
- 16:23are you? Knowing that it was the Lord,
- 16:26Imagine that they were a far off distance, and he was
- 16:30unrecognizable. But John recognized his voice,
- 16:35He recognized that it was the Lord.
- 16:38And then here they are, all surrounding him, looking upon
- 16:42him in his resurrected state, and they were all perplexed and
- 16:46all amazed, and none of them dared to ask him who he was.
- 16:52What a thought, friends. They knew it was the Lord. 13
- 16:58Jesus then came and took bread and gave them and fish.
- 17:02Likewise, imagine that the Lord is serving them.
- 17:07The Lord is taking this fish, and he's taking the bread and
- 17:11he's serving them. He's giving it to them. 14 This
- 17:16is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples.
- 17:20After that he was risen from the dead.
- 17:24So here he is in his resurrected form, his third appearance unto
- 17:29them here on the shore. 15 So when they had dined, Jesus said
- 17:39to Simon Peter, Simon son of Jonas, do you love me more than
- 17:49these? And he said unto him, Yeah,
- 17:52Lord, you know that I love you. And he said unto him, Feed my
- 17:57lambs. So here we know that Jesus had
- 18:02already met with Peter privately, and now he's going to
- 18:08publicly reinstate him. And here he is asking him, Do
- 18:17you love me more than you love anything else?
- 18:22And am I your number one thought?
- 18:28Am I your #1 devotion out of everything, out of everyone?
- 18:34And he says, yes, you know that you are.
- 18:37And then he tells them, feed my lambs.
- 18:41And we can see here that Peter in the book of Acts, Peter goes
- 18:49on to be a prominent figure in the early church.
- 18:55And we can see here that Jesus is giving him his marching
- 19:01orders and telling him what he is to do and how he is to
- 19:06shepherd the flock. 16 He said unto him again the second time,
- 19:13Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me?
- 19:19And he said unto him, Yeah, Lord, you know that I love you.
- 19:23And he said unto him, Feed my sheep.
- 19:27So this second time you can see back whenever Peter denied him
- 19:32three times. And we can see here that Jesus
- 19:35is systematically publicly reinstating him three times.
- 19:39He's going to ask him if he loves him.
- 19:43And he is to feed his sheep. He's to feed his lambs.
- 19:47And both the new believers and the seasoned believers, they
- 19:54both need to be encouraged. And what a wonderful, awesome
- 20:00thing it is to be a shepherd. But our ability to shepherd is
- 20:06directly connected to the Good Shepherd, and we cannot
- 20:10authentically love people until we authentically love the Lord
- 20:15Jesus Christ above all, above money, above position, above
- 20:21power, above any of our traditions, any of our
- 20:28ceremonies, any kind of bylaws, any kind of preferences.
- 20:35We must love the Lord Jesus Christ first and foremost before
- 20:42we can ever love his sheep and his lambs. 17 He said unto him,
- 20:54the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, You love me.
- 21:02And Peter was grieved, because he had said unto him, the third
- 21:06time, Do you love me? And he said unto him, Lord, you
- 21:12know all things, and you know that I love you.
- 21:19Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.
- 21:24So how amazing is this, that the Lord reinstates Peter and gives
- 21:31him his marching orders, and then he's going to not only give
- 21:37him the beginning of his ministry, but he's going to give
- 21:42him an inclination of the end of it. 18 Truly, truly say unto
- 21:54you, When you were young you dressed yourself and walked
- 22:01where you would, but when you will be old, you shall stretch
- 22:05forth your hands, and another shall dress you and carry you
- 22:10where you would not. So here we know that church
- 22:15tradition tells us that Peter was crucified upside down
- 22:20because he said he was not worthy to suffer in the same
- 22:22manner as the Lord Jesus Christ. And here Jesus tells him how he
- 22:30would die. 19 This spoke, He's signifying by what death he
- 22:35should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he
- 22:39said unto him, Follow me. That is our admonition as well.
- 22:48We must follow the Lord wherever He leads us, no matter where it
- 22:52is. If it is to the unreached people
- 22:56groups, if it is to your next door neighbor, we must follow
- 23:00Him wherever He leads us. And we must not drown out the
- 23:05Holy Spirit's voice in our lives.
- 23:10We've got to turn off the noise and sit and know that He is
- 23:16gone. Don't grieve the Spirit.
- 23:19Don't quench the Spirit. Friends, listen, He will lead
- 23:23you. 20 Then Peter turning about, saw the disciple whom
- 23:30Jesus loved following, which also leaned on his breast at
- 23:35supper and said, Lord, which is he that betrays you?
- 23:42So here in verse 20, Peter has his eyes on the Lord just like
- 23:47he did when he was walking on the water.
- 23:49But then he looked away and he put his eyes on another
- 23:54disciple. And we err grievously when we do
- 23:57the same. Let's keep our eyes on the Lord
- 24:00Jesus Christ. Don't look at the followers and
- 24:04try to figure out what he's doing in their lives.
- 24:08This is a personal relationship with God through his Son Jesus
- 24:13Christ. And if you will lock eyes with
- 24:16the Lord, then you will be a breath of fresh air to many
- 24:24disciples along the way that are struggling because they will see
- 24:28the authentic relationship that you have with God through Jesus
- 24:32and it will fan the flame in their lives.
- 24:36But we cannot take our eyes off of Jesus and put them on other
- 24:40believers and try to figure out what God is doing in their
- 24:44lives. And that is where Peter aired at
- 24:48this moment. And he's looking at John, and
- 24:52this whole little passage here is about John who had his head
- 24:55on the Lord's chest, and the when John asked who would betray
- 25:01him at the Last Supper, that is what is referenced here in verse
- 25:0420, verse 21. Peter, seeing him, said to
- 25:09Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
- 25:1222 Jesus said unto him, If I will, that he tarry until I
- 25:18come. What is that to you?
- 25:21You follow me. That is our marching orders as
- 25:25well. We must obey what the Lord gives
- 25:30us to do without being muddled and mixed up in what he's doing
- 25:35in other believers lives. 23 Then went this saying abroad
- 25:42among the brothers, that that disciple should not die.
- 25:47Yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die, but if I will,
- 25:53that he tarry until I come, What is that to you?
- 25:56So John is saying about himself that it is not true that he
- 26:03would not die before the Lord came back.
- 26:07But we know that out of all of the disciples, John was the one
- 26:11that outlived every single one of them.
- 26:14He was placed on the island of Patmos, and we know that it was
- 26:20punishment for his following after the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 26:23They tried to get rid of him by banishing him to this island,
- 26:32but he did not suffer the martyrdom that the others had to
- 26:37suffer. He was the only one who did not.
- 26:42And so it is an interesting fact here as Peter is asking the Lord
- 26:47what about him? And then it is purported amongst
- 26:51all the other disciples that he would not die before the Lord
- 26:54Jesus Christ came back. And we know that John is the one
- 26:57who is given the privilege to have the revealing of the
- 27:02curtain pulled back so he can look into the end times and
- 27:06write all about it. And I look forward to studying
- 27:09that book together. And it is this great revealing
- 27:15as Jesus was well pleased to show us what will happen.
- 27:21And John got to pin it all down. What an amazing privilege. 24
- 27:32This is the disciple which testifies of these things and
- 27:36wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
- 27:40Lawyers after lawyers after lawyers of people who study law,
- 27:46who have come to this good book, the good Bible, the only
- 27:55publication on planet earth that has the ability to predict
- 27:59itself in the preciseness that it has in the past and will in
- 28:05the future. There have been many lawyers.
- 28:10They were scrupulous in all of their dealings and readings of
- 28:17the law. They've come to this book to
- 28:19discredit and disprove, and all they have ever gotten out of it
- 28:23is Jesus jiu Jitsu, where He brings them to the place of
- 28:30faith. This testimony is true and it is
- 28:36authenticated and it is reliable and it is historically accurate.
- 28:44We can trust it and believe on it and put our whole faith in it
- 28:48and build our lives upon this rock, this chief cornerstone.
- 28:52You will never be put to dismay if you will put your whole faith
- 28:58and your whole trust and your whole life and all your thoughts
- 29:02and all your emotions and all your feelings and all your
- 29:05circumstances, your whole family, your wealth, your
- 29:10future, your past, your present, everything.
- 29:14Put everything into the trust and the faith of this good book
- 29:20and you will never be put to dismay.
- 29:26You'll never come up empty. Friends, this book has all the
- 29:31power and the ability to save to the utmost, and it has been
- 29:40stamped by the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 29:43It has been confirmed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 29:47It has been instituted by the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 29:51And it is the blood of Jesus that flows over us from the top
- 29:55of our head to the bottom of our feet, friends.
- 29:58And that is the only way that we're going to make it in to the
- 30:02Kingdom of God. We'll end on 25.
- 30:07And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the
- 30:11which, if they should be written everyone, I suppose that even
- 30:16the world itself could not contain the books that should be
- 30:20written. Amen.
- 30:21The Holy Spirit directed John to only write the things that he
- 30:27would. And it is much like the account
- 30:32in Genesis when Moses is writing inspired by God.
- 30:37And there's a lot more to say about creation, and there's a
- 30:41lot more to say about Jesus's 33 years on this earth.
- 30:47But we only know what we need to know, and we also need to come
- 30:53to the reality that anything that is extra biblical is only
- 30:58opinion. The Bible is the only thing that
- 31:06we need. There's nothing more that needs
- 31:11to be said that has not been said.
- 31:14We have the complete authority of God's Word for us, and we
- 31:21need to be way more preoccupied with studying the Word of God.
- 31:26We need to study the authentic so that when the counterfeit
- 31:31comes across, we can identify it.
- 31:33Friends, we need to be on guard of heresy.
- 31:36We need to be on guard of false teachers.
- 31:39We need to be on guard of the apostate church.
- 31:42Friends, it's coming. It's rearing its ugly head.
- 31:46It's in our midst and we have to study the Word of God so that we
- 31:54can be on guard for whenever all of the false claims, false
- 31:59messiahs, false Christ, false books tried to come in to Canon.
- 32:06There's a lot of people saying that there's books that need to
- 32:09be taken out, and there's a lot of people saying there's books
- 32:13that were missed that didn't get in.
- 32:16And those are all satanic attacks on the infallible,
- 32:22inerrant Word of God. And if you will build your life
- 32:25upon these 66 books, you're going to discover that God is
- 32:32well pleased to continue to reveal His self to you and
- 32:36reveal His unrevealed will for your life.
- 32:40Friends, it's by obeying these scriptures.
- 32:44It's not about interpretation, it's about obedience.
- 32:48Let's get in the good book and don't take my word for it.
- 32:53It's in the book. Just take a look.
- 32:57I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter here in the
- 33:01Word of God. We could spend a whole lifetime
- 33:05studying this chapter, and I pray that you do.
- 33:14I'm praying for you, I love you, and I pray that you have a
- 33:24wonderful day filled with the Holy Ghost, and I pray that your
- 33:28discernment is heightened as you go and walk in the Spirit and
- 33:33not satisfy the lusts of the flesh.
- 33:39Be blessed today and stay prayed up.
- 33:42We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 33:44God bless you.
