- 0:09SPEAKER_03: Rivalry Week.
- 0:13SPEAKER_03: Mike and Mike face off Hollywood Go.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Go.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Hey Hollywood.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Hey, Hollywood Go.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Go.
- 0:27unknown: Go.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Mike Way, my co-host over there, Mike White, South Richmond.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: What's up, man?
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: Huge week.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Big time.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: Big time week for the show, for us personally, for our friendship.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: It's big time.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: I was trying to think.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, the big the last big one, I think, 2007 SEC championship between L.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: LC Tennessee don't play that much, but that does the that was the last time where there was a lot on the line, right?
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: And it almost ruined a early budding friendship between us.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Snuffed it out right when it was still just a baby Saturday.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was so Wade and I go back to what 2004?
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: 2003.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: We met 2003.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Summer 2003.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Um and we were still pretty early in our friendship.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: We didn't really, really get close until probably a year or two after that.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Um, and we were starting to get close, probably 2000.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Would you say that?
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Starting to get close around then.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: And um I'm at the game.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: The SEC championship between LSEO and Tennessee.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: At the game, Tennessee um loses on two fourth quarter interceptions thrown by Eric Aynes.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: One was a pick six.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Yep, and we lose.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: And imagine, you know, eight, I don't know, 18, 19, 20-year-old Mike White at uh um in Atlanta with all my best college friends, just heartbroken.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: And Wade is just trolling the crap out of me, texting me.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: It wasn't even called trolling back then.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: No, it was before trolling.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: Shit talking.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: It's pre-trolling.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: Uh LSU went on the went on to win the national championship title.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: We had two losses.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: That was like less miles as crown crown Julia.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: But that was but the point is, is like that that was the last time I think the LSU Tennessee game had this kind of merit.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: And honestly, because LSU Tennessee don't play that much, and they both can go different times, so but whatever.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: Uh before we move on, what's I mean, what's new?
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: The last time we spoke last week, what's new with you?
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Personal life.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: Oh man, first off, it's been a heck of a week.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: It's been a doozy, but I am headed out of town on Friday to hang out with those same college bros from UT.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: We're gonna spend the weekend together, we're gonna watch the game, we're gonna go to one of the biggest haunted houses in the nation.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: And then on Monday, I'm off on Monday too.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Coming back and have some family time, taking the babies to Busch Gardens.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: I've got a lot to look for too.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you've got you've got a pretty killer 72 hours, 96 hours ahead of you.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: Um, uh, what is new with me?
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, got my new minivan.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: It's amazing.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: It's like driving a cloud.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: Still pumped on that.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: I actually uh could I got to think of Halloween?
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: I put out my Halloween inflatables.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: I don't know why.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Me and my kids.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: So I don't know why.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Um my wife and I bought one like three years ago, and they were like, let's just get more.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: Let's just get more.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: And then my kids started to get into them, and all the kids in neighborhoods are getting into them.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: I have like nine of them set up.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: My house looks like a carnival on Halloween, and they're all Halloween themed.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: So I I got my got all my extension cords and my timers, and at four o'clock every day.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: Literally, they all rise like like zombies out of the ground.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: They all inflate at once, and you just hear the soft, you just hear the soft lull over short pump going whoo is all the fans.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: Sounds amazing.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: It's amazing.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, but you've got some good ones too.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: I know, and I'm actually we haven't even put them all up.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: The weather was Hurricane Ian sent me back away, so we took me a while to get get get up and going.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, what are you drinking?
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: I saw that snifter of yours you're drinking something.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so speaking of your inflatables, it is spooky season, baby, and I'm drinking one of my favorite fall/slash winter beers, uh, courtesy of Blue Mountain.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: It's dark hollow.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 4:11unknown: Oh.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: And it is a bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout, and it is one of my favorites.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: It is awesome.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: You've been on that one for a minute.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a that's a classic.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: That's a classic Mike White beer.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Every year, every year when it when uh when we get to this time of year, love it.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: Just hits right.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: I am drinking a fat tire from a New Belgium uh brewery.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: This is actually this was my first quote craft beer circa probably around the same time, 2007, or whenever that was, when I was we we stopped.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: We we slow we didn't stop, we slowed down our consumption of Natty Light to try other things at that point in our life.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: I think fat tire was coming of age.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: It's an amber ale, it's five percent.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: At the time, this beer was the absolute bee's knees.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: And I obviously now craft has exploded and it's everywhere, but I still have kind of a sweet spot in my heart for this beer, just because it's kind of where my like beer adventures started.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it's solid.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: Solid.
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: It's a good amber.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: Very cool.
- 5:08SPEAKER_03: All right, so as you guys know, we like to talk about uh the last week of football, and we'll talk about what's coming up next.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, recording this on Wednesday night, so we'll have you all we'll this will hit your airways, your earbuse on Thursday.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: You'll have all the primary you need going into week six.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: But before we do that, let's uh go ahead and unpack week five a little bit.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: Uh we'll start with the headlining news.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Man, the body's just hitting the floor.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: Paul Christ and uh University of Wisconsin and Carl Durrell, uh University of Colorado.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: We got two for this week.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: We got two coaches canned.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: Um, Brian Harson, still employed, still going strong, still got a job.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: Um, so this is I think this is the fourth week in a row, Mike.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and and it's not gonna slow down.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: No.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Paul Chris was was uh a little bit of a surprise for me.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: He he's had a good record, he's won conference championships at Wisconsin.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: They love 67 and 26 since 2015.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Things are obviously um a little off the rails right now.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Um, and you never know what's going on behind the scenes, but that one was uh yeah, for right now, that was a shocker.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I agree with everything you said.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: And he's another thing is like he is loved there, like he has a lot of fans.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: I think he played there too.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think I saw that as well.
- 6:20SPEAKER_03: I don't know a ton about Wisconsin football, historically speaking, but I do know that they have not looked like Wisconsin football the last five or six years, which has always been run the dang ball and really well and play and play defense, and they're not doing any of those things at all.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: So I guess something had to give.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can usually rely on them for a good run game, solid in the trenches, uh, respectable program for sure.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Uh Carl Durell got fired at Colorado there, 0-5.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: There's the worst team in power five.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: I've nothing else to say.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: Horrible at your job, you gotta go.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh, that's a tough place to win.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: And okay, fine, I'll say that.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, but windless is windless, and I mean they've been bad for a long time.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be a revolving door until they strike gold like Kansas is done.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then someone will steal them away and they'll start over.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: You know, the Denver's got a big TV market.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: Maybe they can pivot into a Big Ten thing.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: They'll get some Big Ten money coming in or something.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: I just like I don't know what you do there in that spot.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: I just don't think anybody cares.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: I don't think anybody cares either.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: They're gonna go 0-12 this year.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: I think they're gonna be I think they're gonna be the windless, the windless buffs, which is too bad.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: Uh anyway.
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: Uh we'll start we'll go to the top.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: Uh Georgia, we had this conversation last week and we said it was nothing.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's nothing anymore.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: It's not nothing.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: It's not nothing.
- 7:37SPEAKER_03: It's not nothing.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's uh what you saw.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: If I'm a Georgia fan, I'm I'm worried because I know the strength of the SEC from top to bottom, and Missouri is near the bottom, and they put the scare of the daylights in in all all of the state of Georgia.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Easily could have lost that game.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: The big thing I think is that it it exposed they exposed some weaknesses.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: Um Georgia, for whatever reason, has just not found a way to be explosive.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: Obviously, their their tight end room is super deep and they're all NFL caliber.
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: Um, but they're not stretching the field and they're not um they're not they're not making the big plays.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: Um they're they're kind of struggling uh on with the run.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I think there's obviously gobs and gobs and gobs of talent.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: Um so they just need to get it figured out, but definitely hitting the alarm button a little bit.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: It's a little weird.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: Have you, I mean, I'll say I'm not a Georgia fan, obviously, but watching Darnell Washington, their second string tight end behind Brock Bowers, who's all world, Darnell Washington, he's like 6'7, 260.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: He is a terrifying human being.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: I would hate to try and have to tackle that guy.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, it's a matchup nightmare.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: The whole tight end room is a matchup nightmare, but yeah, but but those guys are not going to burn you deep.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: You know, they're gonna they're gonna break tackles, they're gonna there are they're monsters in the red zone, but they need guys who can stretch the field a little bit more than that.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: You know, I also think it's a bit of a maturity.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think when you lose that much, you kind of look around for playmakers, you're looking around for leadership.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: And like Georgia has like a the as full of coverage as there ever was of five stars.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: So obviously they're probably gonna figure out they're probably gonna play better football, but it seems like maybe we all underestimated how much they lost.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: And reality is we thought we after the after the Oregon just vaporizing the job I did to them, yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: We assumed they were just gonna keep rolling and maybe not so much, not so fast, my friend.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: It is it's tough to keep rolling, um, like we've seen your you know, the Alabamas do.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: Um so I you know they'll probably get it figured out.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: It might take a little time.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: Um, that was a prime opportunity for one of the biggest upsets in in the season, and yeah, maybe it could be.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: They couldn't get it done.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: And I mean, this is this is a the one of those spots where you know Georgia could figure it out and and just roll the rest of the season.
- 9:58SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: Um, or they could go out and look the same next week.
- 10:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what we thought last week, too.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: But now that we've seen now that we've seen two blinks in a row, I mean I'm I'm ready to say, especially with how well how well Kentucky fought at Ole Miss as well.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: The Kentucky, like the East might be more open than we thought it was.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: I mean, I I think we're looking at a three, I think we're looking at three teams that could easily, and Tennessee included in that that threesome, not Florida.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: I think we're looking at three good teams in the East.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: And I don't think Kentucky gets Georgia at home.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: So I think all of a sudden I think the East is gonna be a little more entertaining than we thought.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's gonna be we'll see how it plays out, but that we've now seen Georgia hiccup two weeks in a row, who said they can't do a third.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: I'll just keep it rolling.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: Uh Clemson, plus of win at NC State.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: Their hardest games are behind them.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Well, you and I wrote them off the playoff.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: I'm they are the first team I'm writing back in.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, they put it together.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, DJ Uyandalele has is playing.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: Amazing you can say his name so well.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: It's thank you, my friend.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Um, sorry, he's playing his best football.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: He has figured it out, and their defense we've we've always given uh the utmost respect to their defense, and uh DJ's playing like he always should have.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: He's he's figured it out, and Shipley's excellent running back.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: So yeah, they're looking like looking like they're supposed to.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: Kudos to them.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the biggest the biggest difference for me has been DJU.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: I I think we can put the Cade Club in that conversation on ice for a while.
- 11:23SPEAKER_03: He's at least earned it.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's at least solidly.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: I mean, two or three weeks ago, we're like, put the five-star freshman in, get him in there.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it was so crucial for them to have those three three plus games to figure it out.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: They got three games into the season before they even saw any competition.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, if they would have had a tough matchup week one, it could be a whole different conversation.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if Clemson is starts season two and two or something, I think you're probably right.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: But DJU seemed to have it figured out, and I think you know, we can stop the weekly uh K Kluminant conversations.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be he's obviously a superstar in the making, just like Watson and uh Trevor Lawrence, and he's probably gonna fall in that succession as well, but it's not gonna be in 2022.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm feel pretty good about DJU, especially given what they have left the rest of the schedule.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: They're in.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: I don't they they're their their toughest games are behind them.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: Um we'll talk about the pitiful coastal in a minute.
- 12:14SPEAKER_03: Um, Texas AM.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: Oof.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: I have a question for you, Mike.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: Um what do you think just they lost again this week?
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: This is two losses in a row.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: They lost this week to uh Mississippi State.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: Mississippi State, yeah.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: And they're gonna win for Mike Leach.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they're gonna lose to Alabama this weekend.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: Mike, what do you think uh Jimbo Fisher's uh buyout is at the end of this season?
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: I actually we talked about this like three weeks ago.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Um, and I I I highlighted that.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Um let's see if I remember.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: $86 million.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: I was gonna say 60 something.
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: They owe him$86 million if they make it through this season, and they and and and they they make it in the season they can they fire him.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: They owe him$86 million, which is the most gargantuan.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: That is uns it's insane.
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: That is an insane figure.
- 13:10SPEAKER_03: And the reality is there's an outside shot.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: The way these things are going right now for AM, they might not be going bowling.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying that's gonna happen.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying that's gonna happen.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: They've already got three losses, I believe.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: Wait, was that they've got a loss to um they lost to Mississippi State, they lost to Ap State, and there's one more in there that I'm blanking on all of a sudden.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: Oh, God, help me.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: Who who is it?
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: Uh that's all.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: They have two losses so far.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: Yes, they have two losses so far.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: Sorry, they're gonna lose to Alabama, they might lose my LSU Tigers.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: We seem to always have the number.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: Ole Miss is tough.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm just saying, I'm not sure who's on the rest of their schedule.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: They're playing, oh, there it goes.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Florida.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, it'd probably be Florida.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: They're playing at South Carolina.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: It's not unfathomable, but they're six and six.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: They're going to a bowl.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: They're gonna go.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: They'll continue to put it together.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: They've got talent.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're another team.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, all of these teams are figuring it out week to week, could look very different.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying there could be a there's a there's a there's a universe where Texas AM is six and six, and the panic buttons, the melt can be seen from the moon in college station.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: They are going to be losing it.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: Um, kudos to Mississippi State, though.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Mississippi State's just Mike Leach, man, all of a sudden.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: Did you see his press comments?
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: It's a good win.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: It's a good win.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: Did you see his post-game comments?
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: I did not.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: So he was talking to this reporter, and this reporter is uh an attractive young woman.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: She's getting she's engaged to some uh another another gentleman in the sports media market that I never heard of.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: She asked him if he had any uh wedding planning advice, and he goes on this like classic Mike Leach just tangent, just blabbering.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: He ever listened to Mike Leach talk, just Google like Mike Leach rambling, Mike Leach pro post post-game presser.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: There's all kinds of clips of this guy.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: He is just he's a comedian, and he ends he's gold, and he ends this five-minute conversation with you should he lope.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: That's your the answer is you should he lope.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: It's so funny.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: It's one of the one of the funnier moments of this week of college, college football.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's keep it rolling.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: Um uh Oklahoma is a work in progress.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Um defense, especially.
- 15:10SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: Um, I I mean, I'll say I thought Venom, you know, I know Lincoln Riley never had their defense going very well.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: And they Oklahoma didn't hasn't had a great defense for a while.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: Um, but I kind of thought Venables would bring that right away, at least like the fundamentals.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: But like TCU was running running on them, passing on them, Max Duggan, they do whatever they want.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: They they they hung they hung 700 yards, I think.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: They could have hung 900 for all whatever they wanted.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and and the big thing is um Oklahoma is just, I mean, like you said, unable to stop the run against anybody.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so you know, you saw chinks in the armor, and I think the armor just fell off.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: They got defenced.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they sure did.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: That's two losses in a row, two bad losses in a row to two purple teams in the Big 12.
- 16:35SPEAKER_03: Um, Oklahoma, I do not think is gonna be competing for the Big Down.
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, now they've got Texas.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, shootout.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: Yes, which we will talk about, and we're we're gonna we'll come back to that for sure.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: Um, let's go next.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: Uh, Ole Miss in UK.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: That was a great game.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you had a chance to watch that.
- 16:50SPEAKER_03: I was thinking it was one of the best game games of the week.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: Uh uh Kentucky ended up losing 19 to 22.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: That game was played in the Grove in Oxford.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: Um, could have gone either way.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: A couple calls, one or two plays.
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: Um, I couldn't it was literally four plays that decided that game.
- 17:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I think you're I think you're right.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: I walked away from that.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: My impression was that I thought Ole Miss was going to win that game by seven to ten points, and kind of convincingly, not at all.
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: This is what I was saying earlier.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: Kentucky is Kentucky is good.
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: I would I was I doubted.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: You've mentioned the running back from Kentucky.
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: What's his Chris Rodriguez?
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: Yes, that kid is good.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: He can play ball.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Well, he he's an all-sc player that they've lacked up until now.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: Their run game was horrid up until Ole Miss.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Ole Miss played great defense, um, surprisingly good defense.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Um, they make big plays when it mattered.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, Will Levis, for all of all of what he can do, continues to be a turnover machine, whether it's his fault or not.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: Um, Kentucky's offensive line is the worst in the SEC.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think they've given up like 19 sacks.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: And um he's so I don't completely blame Will Levis, um, but for as much as NFL scouts and everybody just gushes over him.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: Um, he he hasn't really put them on his back uh like you would expect.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: He hasn't really played up his potential.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: He played better last year.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: Um, he's lost some weapons on the outside.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: You know, we talked about Wandale Robinson not being there.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, I mean that was a great game.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: Kentucky is still a strong team.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: Chris Rodriguez is a stud.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Ole Miss Um showed a lot with their defense, I thought.
- 18:23SPEAKER_03: That's I mean, that I I think Mike Stoops is a good coach, and he's got Kentucky at all levels.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: There's like, you know, the floor is very high for this Kentucky team.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: He's got them playing at a good level.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: They don't have they don't have a roster like Georgia or Alabama, but they've got a bunch of guys that can play really good football.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: And Will Levis is still an NFL talent.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: So when you have that, a solid defense and solid coaching, that'll win you nine games, which I think Kentucky's on pace to do.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, I mean we'll see what happens with Georgia and Tennessee.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's gonna be a dogfight in the East.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: No punted.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: They're out of conference every year, is Louisville.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that helps.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Who's their cross conference rivalry is Mississippi State?
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: Also helps.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: Well, I've been yeah, this year they got the rotation against Ole Miss, which was a tough draw.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: Um, and then you know, so their schedule, I mean, and they never schedule anybody else out out of conference.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's Cupcake City plus Louisville and Mississippi State, and then the rest of the East, then your rotational in the west.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, a good coach in there should be winning eight games a year, period.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: I think I think this year will be will be no different.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, Michigan State, East Lansing is burning.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: Maryland beat them 27-13.
- 19:30SPEAKER_03: Um, one my my best, probably my most accurate bull prediction of all time.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: Uh nailed that one.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: Uh you didn't nail it yet.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: It's not over, man.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: We got it.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: It's not over yet.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, Michigan State's got Ohio State, which is a very beatable team, I guess.
- 19:44SPEAKER_03: Um, coming up.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: I um uh well done, Maryland.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: Uh Talia Tungbailoa uh continues to be a weapon, Rakeem Jarrett.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: Um, Maryland's a solid team, and they are they might they might give some some of those big those Big Ten East uh foes some fuss.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: Um and they they beat they're better than Michigan State.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: They are objectively better than Michigan State, and they beat them by two touchdowns as they should.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: Um I'm not sure what folks in in East Lansing.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: We I thought we were talking about this every week now.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: Um, what do you go ahead?
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: Um well, first off, things are not as dire as they seem.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: When you look at Michigan's dire.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: When you look at Michigan State's schedule, look at who they ran up against.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: Preseason, you're looking at the Washington game and you're penciling in a win, probably.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: Washington is one of the most surprising teams in in the country this year.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Michael Penix is so is Minnesota.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: They had them on the schedule as well.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: That's you look at the schedule, that's a win.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: Minnesota all of a sudden surging, looking really good.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: Um, and so yeah, I mean, Maryland, you could you could to a lesser extent probably put them in that same argument.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Um, at the latter end of the schedule, you know, you've got Indiana, Illinois, Rutgers, Wisconsin won't have a coach.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: They've got they've there's some wins there to be had, but not definitely not the season they wanted, and and a little bit of a shock to see them, you know, fall off for sure.
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: I think you you make a really good point about uh Washington and Minnesota.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: Washington very well might, I mean, very competitive in the big in the Pac-12, and Minnesota very well might, even though they lost to Purdue this last week, they still very much might be the best team in the Big Ten West.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: Um, Wisconsin's a shell of themselves.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: Michigan State's gonna be fine.
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: I'm just dunking on them because I'm so excited about my about my preseason uh remarks, but um, I mean they're not competing for the East.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: They are 0-2 in conference, and they'll probably finish, I don't know, 3-3.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: Well, it's not what you want to see after uh shelling out that big money contract in Milt Tucker last year.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: No, less than a year ago.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: No, not ideal.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: Not not maybe a little bit of buyer's remorse.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, we'll find out.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's keep it rolling.
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: Um, Pitt.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: Pitt, an inexcusable loss to Georgia Tech.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Georgia Tech just fired their coach and athletic director.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: We talked about it last week.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: That team is terrible.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Up there with Colorado in terms of just bad football, and they came up and they beat Pitt.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: Pitt's supposed to be the best team in the coastal and the ACC coastal, which is all of a sudden the worst division in the power five.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh, I'm uh I watched I watched a lot of that game, and um it just looked like uninspired football.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: It looked like they didn't care, and it looked like Georgia Tech was out to prove a point.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: You know, they they just played harder, they got outplayed.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know what the um I don't know what that that means, but it's it's definitely an ugly one.
- 22:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's it's just inexcusable.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: Pat Arduzi's a better coach.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: That defense is too good.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: Um Keen Slovis is too I'm well I know he was hurt, but I'm not sure who the who their quarterback was.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: I don't care who it is.
- 22:37SPEAKER_03: You can't you don't lose Georgia Tech.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: Georgia Tech.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: It's a program in an absolute tailspin.
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: Um it's tough.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, you know, I'm sorry for the pit the Pit Panther fans who are listening to us right now, but you you can't lose that game.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: Um let's keep it rolling.
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: Uh Pac 12 is deep.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: Uh, we you and I had a conversation about how this massive just crevasse between Oregon, USC, Utah, and then everybody else.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: That's just we were just patently wrong on that.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: We both we both swung and miss on that.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: UCLA, 5-0, Oregon State, Washington State, UW.
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: These teams is the Pac-12 is a far deeper conference, and this was another week of showing exactly that.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: Well, we'll find out about UCLA.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: I'm not ready to they've looked pretty good, but I'm not quite ready to put them in there.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: Washington, I do think is is much, much stronger than than we've given them credit for.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: This is year one with the the rebuilding.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: They're supposed to be rebuilding.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: And Oregon washed.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Well, I was just gonna say, I mean, we've talked about it so many times.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: You you plug in an outstanding quarterback via the transfer portal, and it can change a lot.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: And Penix Jr.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: has looked like a stud.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm just I'm I'm it's it's it's fun because I think there's gonna be two conferences that don't make the at this point.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: If I if I had to predict the playoff right now, I think there's gonna be two conferences that don't make the playoffs, and it's probably the Pac-12 and the Big 12.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: And not because they lack the the the firepower at the top, um, because they might, I mean, Oklahoma State could do that, USC could still do it, uh, UCLA could still do it.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: Um, but because I the teams, the the conferences are just much deeper than I thought.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: I think there's gonna be a lot of infighting.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: I think they're gonna cut each other down.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting at this point, I'm expecting everybody in the Pac-12 to have two losses, maybe three.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: Same for the big same for the Big 12 by its all by by the time it's all said and done, just because there are no, there isn't a Kansas bottom feeder.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously the Pac 12 has Colorado.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: You're welcome for that.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, the back the the Big 12 does not have the bottom is falling out, just show up.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: It doesn't matter who's with who's doesn't matter if you put your trot your golf team out there, you're gonna get a win.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: Um, so I think I think we're looking at two much deeper, much more entertaining conferences.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think um as a whole this year we've seen a lot more parody uh already.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: We've seen a lot of just those crazy upsets that we love as college football fans.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, and we'll continue to see that.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: We're gonna we're we're gonna continue to make a lot of assumptions um today and and next week, and teams are gonna continue to prove us wrong and make us look dumb, and that's awesome.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, you're there's gonna be more chaos, and there's been more chaos this year uh and last year than there than there ever was the previous years because of the transfer portal.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: Just you can just plug things in and change your roster so quickly, you can turn things around so much faster.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: So I agreed.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: Agreed.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: Uh we already talked about Kansas a little bit.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: We already talked about Wisconsin.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: They're needed of a big overhaul.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: They've they they the wheels are in motion there.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: Uh Kansas Magic survives one more week, and we're gonna talk about with Kansas going next.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: But I just want to I just want to tip my hat again to them.
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: They're five and oh just beat the cyclones.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: Another solid Big 12 team that you know Matt Campbell's one of a great coach, hot commodity coach who's gonna be he's gonna be on the who's gonna get a bunch of phone calls.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: Um, and Kansas is five and oh.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: And they did it with defense.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: Kansas bowed up on D.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: You know, they've been doing a lot of razzle dazzle on offense, and they won this game 14-11.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: Which is promising because they're gonna need it coming up against TC.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: But let's we'll talk about that in a little bit.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: But kudos to Kansas keeping the dream alive.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: Rock chalk goes straight from a college basketball national championship to a college football national championship.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: Let's let's let's I'm I'm here for it.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: Let's go, let's go, Jayhawks.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: Uh Bama, no Bryce, no problem.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: Uh uh, I'm not even sure.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: I didn't, I didn't, I could not have told you who that Alabama backup quarterback is, but man, is he fast.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: Um he looked good.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: Um, I mean, oh shock, Mike.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: Hey, Alabama's got a good backup quarterback.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Bet you didn't know that you bet you're shocked to hear that.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Surprise, surprise.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: Turns out what do you know?
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: What do you know?
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: Um, it sounds like I he said he he for those who don't know Bryce, uh Bryce Young, their Heisman winning quarterback, um, went down with a shoulder injury in like the first or something, fell on his like rotator cuff or something.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: It sounded like in the post-game pressure was saving that he could have gone back, but he was sore and he couldn't throw the ball very hard, and he will be fine.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: Didn't matter this week.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: And if I were them, I'd put the backup in again this week against AM.
- 27:06SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's gonna matter next week.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: No, I probably won't.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Um, but it won't help Bryce Young when the Heisman's sitting on the sideline.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: So he'll be in there.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: I think it's kind of a bruised labrum or something.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: Um, we'll see.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, they the they may be cautious with him because obviously they want to make a deep run.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: They're gonna put all kinds of quarterstone in him, so I'm sure if he does go out there, he won't feel a thing.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: But you know, um, it won't matter for this for this coming week.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: Um, also, I just want to say uh Arkansas has now lost two straight.
- 27:33SPEAKER_03: I think they're gonna lose the next two as well.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: Um, I uh Arkansas is in trouble.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Um I just want to say Arkansas is still a very good football team.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: They are their schedule has been brutal, and um KJ Jefferson probably won't play this weekend.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: He's been he's been banged up.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: Um, and without him, you know, their offense completely relies on him.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: So if he doesn't go, they're gonna lose again.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 27:57SPEAKER_03: And the and the next game, with which you and I have talked about, and you really harped on this point, they're going to Utah.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: They're flying to the mountains week after to play a very good Mormon team, a bunch of the BYU Cougars.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: So it doesn't get easier for them at the moment.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: You know, they started out 3-0.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: Sam Pittman had those guys going the right direction, but they're they are staring in the barrel at 3-4.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they were everyone's favorite to uh kind of be the darling of the West this year.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 28:24SPEAKER_03: And when they get back to the South, it's not like it's it's easy then.
- 28:27SPEAKER_03: Then they're going to at the they're going to the planes.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, again, we don't know what we don't know what we don't know what situation Auburn's going to be in two days from now, let alone next in in two, three weeks.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: But yeah, they may have they may have no coach and half the team in the transfer portal by then.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: It's true, but it's still it is still it's also Halloween weekend.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: It's still an SEC road game.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: Very spooky.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Very, very spooky.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Very spooky.
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: So Arkansas, the the luster has worn worn off.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: Still a good team, but um they're they're due for some losses.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: Um Oki State, um, they're the best team in the Big 12.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: They beat my Baylor Bears, which made me sad.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: Um, I just Fetcher Sanders played well, uncharacteristically well, made was really smart with the ball.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: Um Mike Gunde's got Mike Mike Gundai seems to got them rolling.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: Um I think they are I I'm ready to write them in right now as one of the one of the two teams in the Big 12 championship.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they they dominated.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: They looked good.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: They were coming off a bye.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: You know, uh uh Baylor had a tough grinded out win the week before.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: And um I think it was just one of those, one of those games.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: It was it was a good game.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Um, Oklahoma State continues to look good.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: Not to take anything away from Baylor.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Uh they're still a great football team, two losses.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: There's still no one wants to see them on the schedule coming up.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: Um, so kudos to the Cowboys.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: Uh clearly the driver's seat at the conference, especially given what we've seen with Texas and Oklahoma.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: Um, I mean they're I mean, I mean, like I said, I don't think Oklahoma State's going 12-0, but if anybody is going to the playoff from the Big 12, it's it's gonna be the boys in Stillwater.
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: It seems like the only viable possibility in my mind at this point.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: So go someone there.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: Um so Utah dominant again, another very impressive win.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: Um all I think about them is what was that Florida loss?
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't, you know, Florida's going this way, Utah's going this way.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: I don't what the hell was that?
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: You know, it's tough.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, when you've got a team as talented as Florida under a new regime, I mean, there's still talent on the roster.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, this is the same situation that LSU has going on right now.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: You still have ballers, you still have playmakers, maybe everyone's not quite pulling in the right direction, in the same direction yet.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Maybe we haven't figured things out, maybe you know, all the schemes aren't dialed in dialed in.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: Um, but you take a Utah team and they're going across the country, and you've got guys throwing up in the first quarter on the sidelines in the swamp because they're not prepared.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Um you know, it's just it's just a fluky game.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: And you're right, we probably wrote uh Utah off a little bit prematurely.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: Um, but I still give Florida some credit because we don't know what they're gonna be yet either.
- 31:05SPEAKER_03: I I want to, I just I I think I I'm less and less impressed with Florida as the season goes on.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: And Utah on the other hand, 73 to 7 Southern Utah, 35 to 7 San Diego State, 34 to 13 Arizona State, not exactly Murders Road, I'm talking about right there, and but versus Oregon State, 42 to 16.
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: They have straight handled their business every step of the way.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: Monster back-to-back weeks against UCLA and USC coming this week and the week after.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: So you I mean, Utah, I mean, they're they're you know, they Florida punched them in the gut, and they had the they they they they they they've landed their four counter punches, and now it's now it's back to the fight.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Um we'll we'll see, we'll find out about Utah as well, I guess.
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: Long way to go.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: Long way to go.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, a lot to be determined on the field.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Uh we also got uh UConn.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: UConn, we're not gonna talk about them very well from the show, but this is probably their first and maybe only moment.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: UConn gets their first FBS win since 2019.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: Upsetting Fresno State.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Uh Yukon Huskies, uh, headed up by Jim Mora, the old Falcons coach, I think he was, baby back.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and UCLA.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: And UCLA.
- 32:17SPEAKER_03: Uh he's he's he is rebuilding there.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: He's trying to breathe some life into that school to do the other things well, other than women's basketball.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: Kudos to them.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: Their first win since 2019, which of course was against UMass.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: Um, go Husky.
- 32:29SPEAKER_03: Of course.
- 32:29SPEAKER_03: Good husbands.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: Hope everybody up in Connecticut is excited for those guys.
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: Um, you start guys, you gotta start somewhere.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: Um, that's all those are all my notes of last week.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Is there anything else you want to talk about before we talk about what's gonna happen this coming?
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: Let's keep it rolling.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Cool, cool.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: Uh so we're gonna start so we're gonna do these a little differently because obviously home uh home teams and LS Tennessee have a little different meaning this week.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna we're gonna talk about the the three mainline headline games.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: We'll talk about UVA and Virginia Tech briefly.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: It's a little rough for those guys, then we'll kind of get into our um one take uh around just kind of around the horn situation.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: Uh leading off, uh TCU number 17 at number 19, Kansas at noon at FS1.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: Uh TCU is a seven-point favorite.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: This game is at noon.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: Um arguably the two, arguably um at least one of the best teams, the Big 12, and then we we still don't really know about Kansas given that but they are 5-0, two undefeated teams.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's just the most excited I've been to watch.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: If it wasn't noon, I'd be paying more attention.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, what do you got?
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is cool because it's Kansas.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: Um, and this is kind of a show me game for them, you know.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: Are they for real?
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: Are they legit?
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: Um, and this the stats say that they are.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: They've got a really fun offense, um, and they're up against you know, kind of one of their their first really big time tests.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: Iowa State was kind of the the precursor and and they're a solid team, but this is this is this is the the one that makes them legit if they win it.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: You know, they snuck into the top 25, and here they are.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: The table is set.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: This is probably the biggest game, uh, the biggest football game for them in like the history of their program.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: It's been a really, really long time.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: I think it was like in 2007 with like Casey Dick.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: They were like they were they start out they had a really hot start, but yeah, this is the biggest game in Lawrence Kansas in a very, very long time.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: TCU is good.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: Samuel Dykes is a great coach.
- 34:27SPEAKER_03: Max Dugdan is an awesome quarterback.
- 34:29SPEAKER_03: They are good.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Um, I hate to say it, but I don't really don't like Kansas in this spot.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: I like, I mean, I know that they're playing at I know that I know they're playing at Davis Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, which I I couldn't I knew that I knew the basketball team plays in the Allen Fieldhouse, but I could not I you couldn't give it a lot of.
- 34:46SPEAKER_03: Maybe all the money in the world I cannot tell you where Kansas played football.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: The data'll be a horse Kansas Memorial Stadium.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: Um Game Day will be there.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: Game Day will be there, which is also amazing.
- 34:55SPEAKER_03: I think that's that's that's uh kudos to them for not going to another SEC team and going outside the box.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: They were doing that this year.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: They went to App State already, too.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: Um, I appreciate game day.
- 35:04SPEAKER_03: Love game day, love the ESPN game day crew going to new, interesting, cool places.
- 35:08SPEAKER_03: So that's awesome.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: And this game will go as Jalen Daniels goes.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Um, he's a great runner, he will who he will have to run the ball.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: Uh he's he hasn't been super flashy with his arm, uh, not that efficient with his arm.
- 35:23SPEAKER_02: Um do you think that Kansas's defense will do have an Iowa State caliber performance?
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: No, and that's just gonna say that's I I actually think that I actually think it's the other side of the ball is gonna be for Kansas.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: I'm expecting Kansas to score, um, but I'm also expecting TCU to score.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: But TCU's defense, they're giving up 120 less yards per game.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: Now, granted, TCU schedule has been kind to them.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: Uh SMU, Tarlington, Colorado, and Oklahoma, who's who forgot how to play defense.
- 35:49SPEAKER_03: Um, but I just I think they are more solid.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: What I think this game, I like I like TCU to win this game and probably to cover by, I don't know, 10 points or so because because I think TCU is going to get a handful of stops that Kansas will not.
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: Um, I think Sonny Dykes and Max Duggan have that offense humming.
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: And I don't think can't and Kansas is they had a good showing against um Iowa State.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: Kudos, hats off, 14-11.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: It's a is a gritty win, good way to get that one.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: But um TCU just we just we saw what TCU did to Oklahoma.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: They just annihilated them, and they've been doing that to everybody.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: They're they're their point totals this year 38, 59, 42, 55.
- 36:28SPEAKER_03: They are no stranger to the end zone.
- 36:31SPEAKER_03: And I don't think Kansas will get enough stops.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think TCU is the more consistent team.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: Um, they're also more talented across the board.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: Uh Kansas has been doing a little bit with scheme, uh, which is goes a long way to college level.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it really does.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: And and that'll that'll work quite a bit.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: But I think across you know, the this entire specific college football game, um, TCU is going to come out.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: I agree with you.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: They probably win and and and and cover.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: I think it'll it'll be close for most of the game, and TCU gets some stops, gets a couple, a couple scores late, and uh makes it a you know 14-point game, something like that.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: We agree.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 37:11SPEAKER_03: Uh number number 11, Utah at number 18, UCLA, the Hornet's Nest that nobody ever actually attends.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: That the known as the Rose.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: Can someone please show up for this game?
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, this is a love of fabulous.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: Fabulous, this is a fabulous game.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: The the prophets.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: It hurts my heart to see this happen in college football at like in like a a marquee market in a prime situation.
- 37:32SPEAKER_03: The good news is for at least for I mean for college football fans, is um the world is the world has noticed the Pac-12.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: Pac-12 is is the is the Power Five conference that nobody seems to watch in the college college football universe because the universe revolves around the FCC and the Big Ten.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: This game's 3 30 on Fox, which means 12:30 local time, which means it's gonna be out in the daylight, and everyone's gonna be watching it because it's honestly it's far and away the best game in the whole country at 3 30.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: It's way better than Auburn, Georgia.
- 38:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, I don't even know, I'm not even sure what ABC is playing.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna get some real eyeballs on that.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: So you're we're gonna get a really great chance to see uh what Cam Rising in Utah and what um DTR and uh Chip Kelly are doing Usa.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: That's exciting at least.
- 38:15SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: And it's great to have a matchup like this with two high caliber, high performing quarterbacks.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: Um it's gonna it's it's gonna be kind of a sexy game, I think.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: Cam rising, uh, they want to do it on the ground, um, and they've got you know a little bit more beef in the trenches to probably push UCLA around.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: I'm not I'm still not a believer in UCLA.
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm just not.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: I maybe I have some bias.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: I just don't really I mean that's reasonable.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: They gave up they gave up 50 to UW.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: UW's UWs, I mean Michael Panks Jr.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: is doing is doing great things, but they but UCLA has not uh proven to be particularly good at defense.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: Although I will say that game they lost earlier in this, they almost lost early in this earlier in the season to um to South Alabama.
- 39:02SPEAKER_03: Hasn't has actually aged really well because South Alabama is like the best team um one of the best teams in the Sun Belt.
- 39:08SPEAKER_03: So in general, they're they're good in that regard.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: What I like about about UCLA, especially from as a non-UCLA fan, they're just fun to watch.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: Chip Kelly is always entertaining.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: Uh DTR, Dorian Thompson Robinson, they're like gotta be what ninth year uh senior quarterback, uh, really simply under his system, and Zach Charbonnet, the Michigan transfer running back.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: Those guys are gonna they're the the three of them, that three-headed monster with Chip Kelly calling the plays, DTR and Zach Zach Charbonnet, they're gonna they're gonna put some fireworks out in the field.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: Um, and Utah's got to play super sound, know your position, know your role, know your gaps, football for 60 minutes to beat them.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: So I'm expecting, I'm especially on the road, I'm expecting uh them to them to throw a lot of wrinkles at them that they have not seen before.
- 39:53SPEAKER_03: Utah might win this game because they are better coached.
- 39:57SPEAKER_03: Cam Rising's a great quarterback.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: Um, but I wouldn't I would I'm expecting UCLA to put at least two two two of uh Sports Center's top 10 highlights this on this.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Dorian Thompson Robinson is really fun to watch.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: He's you know dynamic with the football.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: So is Zach Charbonnet, and both of those guys are gonna carry the ball a lot.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: You're gonna see a lot of different ways to run the ball.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, different ways to attack via the ground game.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: Um so that'll be fun.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: I think they probably get more splash plays, um, but Utah is probably more consistent on on both sides of the ball.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think I still like Utah to win.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: What did we say the spread was on this one?
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: Three and it's you it's Utah is minus three and a half on the road.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: So it's a Yeah, I guess I'll take Utah to cover that.
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't I don't have a great feel.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: I uh again, I admit I'm probably a little biased against UCLA, but they're gonna have to they're gonna have to prove it.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: They're gonna have to show me a little bit.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: And this is what this is one of those games.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: You win this one, um you're legit.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: Whoever wins this one, I mean whoever wins whoever wins this game is gonna is is going to is going to jump into the 1B of USC.
- 41:02SPEAKER_03: I think right now every USC is getting all the love given Caleb Williams, Jordan Addison, um, Lincoln Riley, et al.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: Um, but the question is is like who's the number two team?
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: You know, everyone kind of forgot about Oregon after they got you know just their tails handed to, but Georgia, um, Utah, we wrote off a little bit we already talked about Florida a little bit, UCLA is five and oh.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: If they're six and oh, all of a sudden the battle for Los Angeles the end of the season might be the Patch 12 championship, which they would play again the final week.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, we didn't think that would be a big time matchup at all.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: The other thing is Utah to this is just something else to consider.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: Utah's back is against the wall a little bit.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: When they look at their preseason hopes, you know, uh myself included, everyone talked about them being in the playoff.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: But that early loss to Florida, this game, you know, this could be elimination time for them.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Um, although it is college football, and you know, the goal is not always just make the playoff, but that was their goal this year.
- 41:56SPEAKER_03: So yeah, no, I think at two, I think at two losses this year.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: I think we, you know, we've already we're already looking at, I mean, probably penciling in Ohio State, Clemson, probably SEC, Georgia, or Alabama, maybe both.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: So if two losses, I know I think you're right.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: I think this is this is not gonna be a G5 year.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: This is not gonna be a Cincinnati year.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: No, and yeah, there's no darling from the G five.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: No, it sure isn't.
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: So you I think you're right.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: I think UT Utah, given the expectations, what they had bringing back, I know they lost their all-world tight end to the season ending injury a while ago, but given what they have, what they brought back, this was their, I think this was they thought, and rightfully so, as far as I can tell, their best opportunity to compete for a playoff spot.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: That's just not gonna happen.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: It's just not gonna happen.
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: If they lose, if they lose on Saturday.
- 42:39SPEAKER_03: Um uh, I'll go with you.
- 42:41SPEAKER_03: I'll go Utah.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: I'll go they're better.
- 42:43SPEAKER_03: They are they are a better coach, deeper team, more depth.
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll take Utah to cover as well.
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: I think that's reasonable.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Um we agree.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: Uh Texas, Texas at Oklahoma at noon on ABC.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: Texas is a seven-point favorite.
- 42:57SPEAKER_03: This is actually a neutral sight game.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: This is the Red River shootout.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is one of the rivalry games that makes college football so great.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: Um, Iron Bowl, Army, Navy, Michigan, Ohio State.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: Um, the Red River, Texas, Oklahoma is right there.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: Granted, it's regional, obviously, it's Big 12, but these are two blue chip historical programs, Facebook.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: And this game always is always fun, regardless of.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: I mean, it just always seems to be one of those wild matchups.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: And then there's uh they're teams that hate each other, you're teams that uh that that have family feuds that go back literally longer than Mike and I have been around.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: Um, for me, the question is um, I I this is this is funny because I I I mean Oklahoma is is really had their gut, they had their punch the gut two weeks in a row.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: Um, question number one is is is Quinn Ewers gonna play?
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: And what if he does play?
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: What does he look like?
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: Uh Quinn Ewers being the star quarterback of star quarterback of Texas, went down week two in that tough Alabama injury, looked lights out into them.
- 43:59SPEAKER_03: Hudson Card has filled in, done admirably, but he is not Quinn Ewers, who who many based on what we've seen, the small sample size is a really, really good quarterback.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: Um, so question number one is is he coming back?
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: Um, question number two, does it matter?
- 44:14SPEAKER_03: Because the good news is right behind him is B.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: John Robinson, Texas all American running back.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: Given what Oklahoma just got done to them by TCU, maybe doesn't matter.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think this is a really good spot for Texas because even though Oklahoma's back is against the wall, um they've just been handed two solid blueprints on how to line up and um and beat them.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: And they have they have the personnel to do it.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: Uh TCU put up what it was it's 361 rushing yards without and they don't have uh they don't have a back uh at the same caliber B.
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: John Robinson, nobody does.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: No.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: Um so if they do get viewers back, um that's just gonna be you know more more fuel to the fire.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: I actually really like Texas in this one, um just because it seems like the defense uh the wheels are kind of falling off in Oklahoma.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: I don't know that it's gonna be a big time blowout or anything like that.
- 45:10SPEAKER_02: Obviously, this game's always wild and interesting, and and um and last year, you know, Texas got up big, and um obviously Caleb Williams stormed back for Oklahoma and ended up winning the game.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: Um, so I think it'll probably be close again, but I do like B.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: John Robinson, uh, like you mentioned.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and also Texas's defense is better.
- 45:34SPEAKER_03: They're I mean they're they're averaging six, they're average their their yards given up are 60 yards less.
- 45:39SPEAKER_03: Um, and Sarkeesian just seems Texas, frankly, I has not been known for defense since like 2005.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: It's been a long time since Texas has had a good defense.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: Um, uh, that seems like they he's got them playing sound football.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: And the Big 12 against this team, that's probably all you need because Oklahoma's not gonna have the responses.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: I love Texas to cover this.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: I know it's a rivalry game, so this is one of those moments where we're gonna say everything points to Texas doing this, but because it's a rivalry game, Oklahoma wins by 20.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: You know, something weird's gonna happen.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: Well, and I mean, you know, the transit of property never works, and every week is different in college football.
- 46:15SPEAKER_02: Um, but you look at Texas's losses, and Texas very easily could have beaten Alabama.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: They they they were so close, they probably should have won that game.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: Um, they got upset uh at Texas Tech with a three-point loss, very easily could have won that game.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: Those two losses are very, very, very different than what Texas is or um what Oklahoma is coming off of.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: Two blowouts where their defense just didn't even show up.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: So when you look at the body of work, um, you know, even outside of looking at a rivalry, Texas has just been the stronger team thus far.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: True.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: And the other thing that worth noting is I forgot to mention Dylan Gabriel, the Oklahoma starting quarterback, he got wet well with an injury TCU game.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: Probably not gonna play.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: I've heard that as well.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: And if he does, in like, you know, what what state of what what is he ready to go?
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: Is he is he if is he at full strength?
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: And it's and he wasn't playing that well before he got he.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: I think he had a concussion.
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: I really don't think he comes back and plays.
- 47:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and he didn't look good at TCU anyway.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: That him getting out of the him getting hurt in the TCU game was not the difference.
- 47:16SPEAKER_03: They were TCU was gonna run away with that game anyway.
- 47:18SPEAKER_03: Um, but it's just I mean, if you're if you're Oklahoma, your defense is reeling and you lost uh your star quarterback, it doesn't help.
- 47:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you want your guy.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: You want him you ideally you want him to play.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: I guess it's time we gotta talk about the thing that we're supposed to talk about.
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: Here comes uh the game of the season, arguably for this podcast.
- 47:41SPEAKER_03: Um definitely the game of the week for Mike and I.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: Uh number three, uh, University of Tennessee.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: Um, sorry, number eight, number ten, excuse me, excuse me, at number 25, LSU at noon.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: All these games are at noon.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: It's so dumb.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: On ESPN, University of Tennessee is a three-point favorite, opened at four and a half.
- 47:57SPEAKER_03: It's moved a little bit in favor of LSU.
- 48:00SPEAKER_03: You want to start or you want me to?
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I'll start because I think we there's a lot of we're probably seeing a lot of the same things.
- 48:07SPEAKER_02: We can play off each other a little bit.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: Um, so I will start by saying, first off, um, thank God this is an 11 o'clock local time kickoff.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: Huge win for the Rawls.
- 48:19SPEAKER_02: Um, so that's that's nice.
- 48:21SPEAKER_02: That's nice to have.
- 48:21SPEAKER_03: Um tell tell tell tell the audience why.
- 48:24SPEAKER_02: Tell why?
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Because nobody wants to play at night in Death Valley.
- 48:28SPEAKER_02: It's a tough place to play.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: Nobody wants um Cajuns who've been drinking for 12 hours to be um juiced up and in your ear hole all game long.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I mean that's no that's a no-brainer.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: It's still gonna be a great environment, um, but this it's a a day game pales in comparison.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: Um so that's that's a nice setup.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: Um Tennessee also coming off a bye week, which is very, very helpful.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: Um, LSU just won a knife fight in um on the plains against Auburn.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Uh very kind of tough fought, hard fought game that they were lucky to come away with.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, so you know that kind of sets the stage.
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: Tennessee's banged up in a couple places.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: Cedric Tillman um very likely will not play.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, I don't think I knew that.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: Cedric Tillman being Tennessee's uh all-world receiver and Hooker's number one favorite target.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: Um I don't think I realized he was at and I saw the the gentleman, I don't even know who it is, the the the guy that the secondary, uh somebody's somebody's the ticker should be.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: G Williams will come back.
- 49:29SPEAKER_02: Um he he hasn't played at all this year, but he should be a boost to the secondary.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: I think you're talking about Warren Burrell.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 49:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:37SPEAKER_04: He's out.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:38SPEAKER_04: He's out.
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we lost him for the season um last week.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Um for what it's worth, you know, it just makes the secondary a little bit more thin, already a uh a group that uh is looking for answers.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: Um, but that's kind of the setup.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: Um, I think we're both seeing a couple of the same things.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: Why don't you dive into it?
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Uh sure.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, so LSU obviously coming coming off the Jordan Hare win.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: Um it was uh LSU's uh LSU's done a couple things really well this year, a couple things really bad this year.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: And and I'll just quickly also have the Auburn game.
- 50:07SPEAKER_03: LSU won 21-17, went down 17, nothing and came back and stormed back.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: Uh LSU all year has been making really, really good second half adjustments.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: And our second half defense has been light sound.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: We saw more of that.
- 50:20SPEAKER_03: Offense was terrible.
- 50:21SPEAKER_03: I think we passed for 85 yards, um, which is a major concern.
- 50:25SPEAKER_03: Um, Jaden Dansel Daniels, the Arizona State transfer is playing experience.
- 50:29SPEAKER_03: LSU still has four or five top flight receivers, including Kayshawn Boutet, who's who's a most most folks preseason All-American.
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: He just can't get them the ball.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Kashawn Boutet has less than 100 yards receiving this year so far.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: And he was an all, yeah, preseason all-American.
- 50:45SPEAKER_03: Which is just wild because he's probably a first-rounder um in May.
- 50:49SPEAKER_03: Um, it's our we are having our LSU's offense is is not good.
- 50:53SPEAKER_03: And Auburn was more of that.
- 50:54SPEAKER_03: So going into this game, why that matters now, going into this game, uh, Mike, I talked about it a little bit already, is this seems is this this is going to be kind of good on good on bad on bad.
- 51:04SPEAKER_03: Um, LSU's offense is not where it should be, frankly.
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: Um, given the weapons we have a wide receiver, given the a starting quarterback who has like 40 starts under his belt, um, and Tennessee's defense is not loaded with this with the SEC level depth uh that it should be.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: So that's kind of the bad on bad.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: Um, the good on good is LSU's defense, which has improved tremendously throughout the season um at every level.
- 51:28SPEAKER_03: Defensive line continues to be all world as secondary, it's been one of the best surprises for our team.
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: It's all transfers from Arkansas and University of Lafayette, and maybe one or two LSU seniors.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: And the linebackers have really turned on Harold Perkins, the five-star number one uh inside linebacker recruit from last year.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: So our defense has been great.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: On the other side, they've got a monster challenge in uh Henn and Hooker um and Tennessee's offense, which Hypel has just cruising.
- 51:53SPEAKER_03: So it's it's it comes.
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: I don't know which is gonna like what's gonna give like rock in a hard place.
- 51:59SPEAKER_03: Like, are we gonna be able to keep Tennessee to 31 points?
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: Can LSU score 31 points?
- 52:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think um turnovers is gonna be big in this one.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, when you look at that Auburn game, Auburn turned the ball over four times.
- 52:15SPEAKER_02: They had that inexcusable um fair catch muff for turnover, they had that terrible uh halfback pass in the red zone by former LSU player, super embarrassing.
- 52:28SPEAKER_02: Um and so yeah, Tennessee can limit turnovers.
- 52:32SPEAKER_02: Um, I think their offense will will click just fine.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: When you talk about the good on good, bad on bad, one of the things that was interesting to me is um it's not just Tennessee's defense that's played bad, it's very specifically the secondary.
- 52:46SPEAKER_02: Um, and so when you look at our cornerbacks and our safeties, you know, can Jaden Daniels actually stretch the field for once?
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: Can he actually test those guys?
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: Because we've actually played really well against the run.
- 52:58SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, whether it's scheme or personnel, we've loaded up against the run and um we've given up a lot of plays in a soft zone.
- 53:07SPEAKER_02: So, you know, will LSU try to stick to what they've been doing, which is very run-heavy with Jaden Daniels, a lot of check downs.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Um, I think six of eight of his passes were to running backs and tight ends last week.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: Uh, a lot of check downs.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: They need to stretch the field if they're gonna win.
- 53:23SPEAKER_02: Those opportunities will be there.
- 53:24SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 53:24SPEAKER_03: And Brian Kelly's talking about that.
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: And that's and I think I think I think everyone's agreed.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, to Jaden Daniels' credit, he's done very, very well protecting the ball.
- 53:31SPEAKER_03: He's got nine touchdowns and no picks on the year.
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: His QBR, for whatever we're for whatever that statistic is worth, is like 130 because of that kind of X um accident-free ball.
- 53:41SPEAKER_03: But the problem is, is he's not taking the shots he needs.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: He's he's and I think most of the time.
- 53:46SPEAKER_02: That will not that will not work to win this game.
- 53:48SPEAKER_02: He will have to make he will have to make plays with his arm.
- 53:51SPEAKER_03: And if I'm Keyshawn if I'm sorry, if I'm Jaden Daniels, if I'm Brian Kelly and I'm saying Kayshawn Boutte is inevitably at some point, probably more than once, going to be on an island with whoever Tennessee's back there.
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: Just throw him the ball.
- 54:02SPEAKER_03: Throw it up to him.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: Just throw him the ball, you know, and make your all let your all-American attack, because that's nothing, that's not something we have done this year because we haven't had to, or we're not comfortable, or we haven't gotten the same page, hasn't been a meshing.
- 54:16SPEAKER_03: There was an all-I don't know how you're feeling, I don't know your thoughts about this, but there was a yeah, there was a players.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: So, what teams like doing when they're not doing so well, if they come off a couple of losses, they have players-only meetings, which is great.
- 54:26SPEAKER_03: You love seeing the players take charge of the locker room, take charge of their units.
- 54:31SPEAKER_03: And I, you know, obviously the LSU media made a big deal about it, and also all the message boards.
- 54:37SPEAKER_03: You hear this all the time.
- 54:38SPEAKER_03: I don't really, I I guess it's a good thing.
- 54:40SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you have any feelings about team meetings.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: Well, this one was very specifically the quarterback and wide receiver room.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 54:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, just those two groups, right?
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: Um, and so yeah, I think it's good that they're noticing and and and and taking accountability for for uh what's been a flaw in their game.
- 54:56SPEAKER_02: Um, it's up to the coaching staff to kind of turn them loose and give them the confidence to go make some of those plays and for Jaden Daniels to to sort of, I guess, unshackle himself.
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: Those plays will be there.
- 55:08SPEAKER_02: Um and and I believe they'll probably make some.
- 55:11SPEAKER_02: I just don't know if it's gonna be enough because those splash plays are probably gonna be needed um to win the game.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, if Tennessee can take care of the football, it'll just be interesting to see how LSU game plans on offense.
- 55:27SPEAKER_02: Do they try to stick with the run game at first and just say, hey, look, we're gonna line up and we're if we can run the ball and we don't have to try to stretch the field, like why not try to do that?
- 55:37SPEAKER_02: Um, the problem is if you stick with that too long, you know, you're looking up and it's it's a 17 to nothing game against these vols is a very different than the 17-0 game against Auburn.
- 55:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I could see if I could see a route where Tennesse where LSU tries to shorten the game.
- 55:50SPEAKER_03: If there's especially if they're running the ball well and they want to they want to keep Tennessee's offense off the field, I could certainly see that.
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, we'll Tennessee's got to hold the run.
- 55:58SPEAKER_03: And then if they are stacking the box, then you are definitely going to see those one.
- 56:01SPEAKER_03: And then that play action pass might be there.
- 56:03SPEAKER_03: I actually think if I'm, you know, like there, I I mean I've I've I've gone over this scenario a billion times in my head.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: There's a scenario that LSU wins by 14, there's a scenario where LSU loses by 14.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: And I can feel like I can six I can picture and see all of those many times.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: I like the first thing you said.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: I think it comes down to turnovers.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: Someone's gonna make a mistake, someone's gonna blink.
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: Neither LSU nor Tennessee has been particularly sharp on special teams this year.
- 56:24SPEAKER_03: I think is that fair?
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Is that fair?
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: LSU I would I was gonna say that.
- 56:28SPEAKER_02: LS uh we were terrible.
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: We've gotten we've gotten to like and you've been the the benefactor of a lot of special teams errors.
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: Um I mean we had some some punt snafu's.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: Um we didn't have to punt against Florida at all.
- 56:41SPEAKER_02: Uh so I would expect us to have to punt at least once against LC.
- 56:45SPEAKER_02: That's not a thing that normally happens.
- 56:47SPEAKER_03: Reasonable, it's a reasonable presumption.
- 56:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:49SPEAKER_02: Um I mean so that's an area, that's an area to look at.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: Um I just I mean, I think I think that's gonna happen.
- 56:55SPEAKER_03: I think I mean it's gonna be whether there's Jaden Daniels throwing that jump ball that goes either way, um, other Hen Hooker, but the speed option fumble.
- 57:02SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know what's gonna be, but like I mean, like I think there's a good chance.
- 57:05SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll say LSU has done very, very well all season against everybody, including Florida State.
- 57:11SPEAKER_03: And if the game was 10 minutes longer, I think they win at making second half adjustments.
- 57:14SPEAKER_03: If this game is tied, or if LSU's up by three, I feel really good about LSU's chances to win at home, especially then because in like because at that point the crowd will definitely be into it.
- 57:24SPEAKER_03: The people will be going to their second round of uh makers, whatever's in their pocket.
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: Like they'll get it'll get festive.
- 57:30SPEAKER_03: If LSU starts slow, which they've done every game this year, just about except with the exception of southern and new Mexico, but whatever.
- 57:37SPEAKER_03: Every they've started slow against Auburn, Florida State, and Mississippi State, the three quality teams they've played this year.
- 57:43SPEAKER_03: If that happens to Tennessee, we're in big trouble.
- 57:46SPEAKER_03: So I think there's gotta be LSU has to start fast.
- 57:49SPEAKER_03: But if they do, and if they get to halftime and work the lead, I really I really like what I really like about LSU in the second half, just because Matt House has done such a good job with this defense after that break.
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: It'll be interesting to see um how the game plays out for sure because there are a lot of different ways that that you could slice this one.
- 58:07SPEAKER_02: LSU is obviously very talented.
- 58:09SPEAKER_02: Um, this could be a coming out party for the offense.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: Just because they haven't done it thus far doesn't mean that they can't do it.
- 58:15SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 58:15SPEAKER_02: A lot of times, you know, you're game planning for each specific opponent and you do what is necessary or what you think is necessary to win the game.
- 58:22SPEAKER_02: So maybe this is the game they go out and play a little bit more free um and and take some shots, and and Jaden Daniels gets a little more confidence in that deep ball.
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: Um, that being said, Tennessee is already playing free uh and they're coming off a bye.
- 58:36SPEAKER_02: And I just think that their offense is gonna continue to roll, uh, even though uh LSU's defense is very stout, especially on the D-line.
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: Um, I do think that there's just too many, too much firepower uh and too many offensive plays made uh for them for for LSU to overcome.
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: Unless they force some turnovers.
- 58:57SPEAKER_02: They'd have to win the turnover battle, but I I do like the balls here.
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: I think I mean I think turnover I think I think whoever wins turnover battle is gonna is gonna be the one who who wins the game.
- 59:05SPEAKER_03: I really think I think it's what it's gonna kind of come down to, which is like so cliche.
- 59:10SPEAKER_03: But like in a game like this, where like there's I don't see like an obvious here's a fun statistic.
- 59:14SPEAKER_03: Um Tennessee is almost exactly 116 yards better on offense and that same amount worse on defense.
- 59:23SPEAKER_03: So you're looking, you're I mean, you're literally talking about the things that we are better and worse at almost line up.
- 59:28SPEAKER_03: Um Russell, you know, so that's so I don't know.
- 59:31SPEAKER_03: It's a little fun statistic.
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: Conversely, um, when you look at you know that kind of mirror image, when you talk about what LSU can do on offense, has all been kind of underneath stuff.
- 59:42SPEAKER_02: And Tennessee loves to take shots.
- 59:44SPEAKER_02: I think they're averaging 11 point 11 point something yards per pass attempt.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: Um, and you got to feel good if you're LSU thinking about what you just did to Mississippi State.
- 59:55SPEAKER_02: But that passing offense is very different.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: That's a ball control, that's underneath stuff, that's a run game.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: They're averaging probably like six, seven yards per attempt.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: Um, so Tennessee's gonna challenge them over the top.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_02: LSU has not challenged anybody over the top.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_02: And um, I'd like to, I'm gonna, they're gonna try and they're they're probably gonna hit a few.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_02: So it'll be fun to see both teams kind of open up.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_02: And um yeah, I'm excited.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for this one.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_03: Can we promise to still be friends afterwards?
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_03: The podcast will survive this game, regardless.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_02: I think we will.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: I think we'll try.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: We've made it this far.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_03: Over uh over under is 65 points, Tennessee minus three.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_03: I'll say LSU 3127.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_03: What's your what's your feelings pick?
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: Um 3127.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: Wow, you think you outscore the Vols?
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: 3127.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: Okay, I'm gonna go.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go to the show.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_03: That's 58 points.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's about where the Vegas thinks, yeah.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go something more like um 35-28, something like that.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_02: Maybe like 4130, you know.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_03: 40 points is a lot of points.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_03: Well, we it could happen.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_03: It could certainly certainly could happen, especially if folks are folks who are still sleeping at 11 o'clock local time.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_03: Could be could be still sleeping.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_03: Uh good stuff.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_03: Uh that'll be a great same.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_03: All right, let's keep it moving.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's talk about we're gonna switch to homer time really quick, and then we'll go back to all of our one-quitters and we'll get out of here.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_02: Um, we're we're we're gonna move, man.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: We're going.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_03: So um, I but yeah, but uh everybody, everybody who still isn't gonna point expected as much.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: Um, let's get to the bad first.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: Uh UVA lost to Duke 38-17.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm not gonna focus on either of this game much because there's not much to.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_03: This team is not good.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_03: Uh Brandon Armstrong, the wide receivers are regressing.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_03: And uh it's I don't, it's this is I I kudos the defense for fighting like hell.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_03: They've overperformed so far this year.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_03: Cheddar Dinsky's a good defensive coordinator.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: Um, this team is bad.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_03: I just it's I I you know the silver lining, and I've one silver lining for this team and one silver lining for tech.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_03: Um, because they fared similar.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_03: It's it's still time.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_03: The coastal division is so bad.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: It is so bad.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_03: If UVA can figure it out, the season is not lost.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_03: I they literally they could still win the coastal division, given how bad it is.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_03: That's all I got.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't, I don't, I think both of these teams, I'm just gonna go ahead and start talking about Virginia Tech as well.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_02: I mean, you're looking at getting to a ball game, getting better, looking for the silver linings.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: Um, Duke has been we gotta give Duke Duke some credit.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're four and one.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: Um, they're actually pretty good.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: Uh UVA is is a little worse than than we thought they'd be.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_02: And you know, I don't I don't know, I don't think there's one thing that you can you can say.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, Brandon Armstrong threw the ball 37 times, he only had 200 yards, an interception, and a touchdown.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_02: Um, nobody's really performing.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_02: So, you know, it I think that there's just maybe a gap in the understanding of what they're trying to do from a scheme perspective.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_02: You also have to think about, you know, when you when you've got a new system that you're putting in, um, you're trying a lot of times you're trying to install something different and you're trying to put a square peg in a in a round hole.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: So um I don't know.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: I don't know why you can't do something with the the arm talent that Brennan Armstrong has.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_02: I don't know either.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: Um, but I don't get paid to make uh to figure that stuff out.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_03: No, Tony Elliott does, and uh, and it's it hasn't not happened yet.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: Uh you uh so uh go to next week's game.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_03: Uh Louisville uh just lost to Boston College.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_03: Uh the fighting Rob Reeds are also one of the worst teams in college.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_03: Fighting Rob Reeds, baby, dude.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_03: They've got some life.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um kudos to the fighting Rob Reeds.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_03: Louisville is minus three at UVA.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_03: It's only they the Vegas only sits with three points.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_03: Turn it around, get a win.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_03: Uh uh Scott Satterfield and Louisville are also in a tail spin.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_03: Um, Malik Cunningham might be hurt in that game.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_03: I haven't seen the latest, actually.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_03: Um they they could win this week.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_03: I I I hope I hope they well, they're only going to is if the offense looks better than it has looked so far this season since Richmond, since the opening FCS game.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_03: It's got to be better.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_02: That's yeah, this is a tough game because both of these teams are pretty evenly matched.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_02: And um Malik Cunningham is a big two and three, evenly bad.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, but Louisville's actually looked pretty good in spots.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_02: Um, they looked pretty good against UCF, they looked very good against Florida State, who's surprised some people this year.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_02: Um, the the Boston College game was was definitely a head scratcher.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_02: Uh Louisville has some injuries in the running back room.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_02: If Malik Cunningham can't go, um UVA should win.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_02: Period.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: If he can go, I like I like the cards.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's I that's a reasonable, that's a reasonable take.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: I'm I think I'm gonna coast.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna agree with you on that one.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_03: Virginia Tech um got the doors blown off them by UNC 41 to 10.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_03: Uh they start out the early stop, they got three points first.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_03: Uh Drake may turned around, did like a 17 play, 70 yard, 7-3 drive, and just never looked back.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_03: And that was that.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_03: Uh final score 41 to 10.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_03: Um, no identity.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_03: I I don't know.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_03: My I so again, um the tech fans listening know what they saw this last week, and that was exciting about silver line that maybe you didn't notice.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_03: Seven true freshmen saw the field that day.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_03: Um, there is a youth movement happening at tech, and uh including that uh four-star tight end who I think finished with four carries, 39 yards.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_03: His name is escaping me at the moment.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_03: Shoot.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_03: Um, but he's he is a talent.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_03: He is clearly a talent, one of the best, one of the better guys on the team.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_03: Uh yes, I think that sounds familiar.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_03: That's what you're looking for now for tech.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_02: Um it's it's you know, Jason Brown got some some some looks other than Grant Wells.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_03: Can't be worse than Grant Wells.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_03: Can't be worse than Grant Wells.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I tech's got some young guys going.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_03: And these guys, if if if Brent Pry is gonna be the guy, and if two years from now, three years from now, tech is back to where they should be, nine and three, ten and two, competing for the coastal uh every so often or every year, whatever.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_03: Um, these guys, these freshmen, are gonna be the key cornerstones on that.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_03: So seeing them out there, seeing them get some action, seeing them get some seasoning, I like that.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is um silver lining time.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: That's one thing I like about that game.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is silver lining time.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_02: This is like how can we move forward from this?
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_02: You weren't gonna win this game.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_02: No, UNC, you know, Tar Heels have a good, good program right now.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_02: Um, they've got one of the better offenses in the ACC.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_02: Great May, one of the best uh quarterbacks maybe in the ACC in a conference of of really good quarterbacks.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_02: Um, and you know, he did his thing.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, they put up a ton of yards.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_02: This is just a a put it behind you and move on type of game.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: And I honestly I just I I just I want I'd like to see the tech is playing, they're playing Pitt this year, uh, this week.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_03: They're 14 and a half dogs.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_03: Um Pitts coming off.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_03: Line for this game.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_03: It is a huge line.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_03: The game is at Heinzfield.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_03: Whatever.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_03: Drever Stadium.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Dream River Stadium.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_03: They are coming off that abysmal loss of Georgia Tex.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_03: Maybe.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_03: So maybe there's an anger.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_03: Maybe there's a maybe you're maybe you're going to see an angry pit.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I kind of feel that that that it has that vibe.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_02: The unfortunate thing for Virginia Tech is um Pitt still has a salty defense and what and a really good D-line.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: And um Virginia Tech cannot find a way to score.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_02: Grant Wells is going to get pounded into the turf a lot.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_03: So if I'm so one thing I'm looking for, if I'm a tech fan at this point, is we've they're they're coming off now on pretty much two straight blowouts with uh West Virginia and um last week UNC.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_03: Show some fight.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_03: I think if you see, I think I think there's two things you're looking for for VT this week.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_03: One, some more freshmen.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_03: Look for the look for those guys who are those names you haven't seen before.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_03: Look them up, keep an eye on them.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_03: That's what if I'm a tech fan, I'm looking at the younger guys, seeing who the future is.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_03: Two, let's show see some heart.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_03: Let's see if Brent Pry can keep these guys.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_03: They've they've now gotten their they've gotten beaten pretty badly twice in a row.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_03: This is gonna be at Pitt.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be really easy for a lot of these guys to mail it in.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_03: Let's see if tech cannot do that.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_03: Don't let don't do that.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can very easily see tech pulling themselves up by the bootstraps and not letting Pitt cover.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, that would be a win.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, because Pitts Pitts had their struggles recently.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: Um But they're a better team than tech at this point.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_02: They are they're a good, they're still a good team.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_02: They tripped up last week.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_02: I s uh they're still a good team.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_02: They're still gonna they're still gonna have an okay season.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_03: Um they might win the terrible coastal.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_03: It's like they might.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_03: They might win the terrible coastal of their 0-1.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, very cool.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_03: I think we're done with uh anything else you want to add on UVA or tech?
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_03: All right, cool.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_03: Let's get moved to let's move to one take.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_03: All right, this is the point of the show where Mike and I are gonna run a run through um eight or nine other games that we think are interesting.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_03: We're both gonna offer up one take um on that game.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_03: Arkansas at Mississippi State, Mississippi State minus nine and a half.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_03: No chance without KJ Jefferson.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_03: Mississippi State rolls.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_03: We already said that.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we did.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_03: Auburn at uh University of Georgia.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_03: Uh Georgia is a 30-point favorite.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is one of those rivalry games, the 330 CBS game of the week.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_03: Um I the Brian Harson has nine lives, as a cat's got nine lives.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_03: This might be his ninth life.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_03: I think I think they cover, I think Auburn's is they got nothing to lose.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_03: They're gonna play.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_03: I think they're gonna play, I think they're gonna play fast and loose, and weird stuff's gonna happen.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_03: Georgia's being V.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_02: Um, for me, this game, uh, looking ahead in the schedule, I want to see if Georgia can actually put together some some explosive plays on the outside.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_02: Who's gonna emerge from their wide receiver room?
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_02: Uh are we gonna see a better offense from them?
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_02: Because we know that Auburn has a has some talent and and they've got so they've got a good D line.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_02: Um, they can play some defense.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_02: So that's what I'm gonna be watching.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_02: Georgia's still gonna roll, I think, um, but I want to see how they do it.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_03: Uh Texas AM at Bama, Bama's minus 24.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, last year, Texas AM upset them in college station.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_03: Um, that summer trash talk between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher is gonna age like sour milk.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_03: Alabama minus 50.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_03: The over-under is 52.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_03: I'm calling I'm saying Alabama 49, Texas AM three.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is gonna be a name to score uh if you're Alabama.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: This on paper, this was a good call, but sure to put them in.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_02: I had this circled a month ago.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this should have been a fun game.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_02: Texas AM continues to look terrible, uh especially on offense.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're they're just they can't put up the points.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_03: Ohio State at Michigan State.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_03: Ohio State is 27 point favorites.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_03: Um, that offense is just getting rolling.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_03: Good luck, Mel.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_03: I don't know what I don't I expect even without Jack and Smith and Jigma on Trader Henderson, I think, is still hurt.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_03: Um, Ohio State's offense is a machine.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_03: They are going to steamroll the Spartans.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I, you know, I've I've I've stood up for Mel Tucker, but uh even last year when he had it humming at Michigan State, it was a 56-7 beatdown.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_02: Um, and I I don't see any reason to see that change this year.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't think it'll be quite what it was last year, uh, but Ohio State should continue to put up gaudy numbers.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech at Oklahoma State.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_03: Oklahoma State is minus nine and a half.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_03: Does Oklahoma State gonna is Oklahoma State looking ahead to next week when they play TCU for probably the best two teams in the Big 12?
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_03: Is this a look ahead situation?
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech can sneak in.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_02: I think you know, we've seen Texas Tech uh show some life and we've seen them knocked off Texas?
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh, but I don't think this is that that time.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_02: Um, particularly because it's at Oklahoma State.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_02: I think Oklahoma State is super focused right now.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_02: They're dialed in after that big win.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_02: I don't see a letdown.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_03: I hope they do win because obviously Oklahoma State TCU next week.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_03: Especially if TCU beats Kansas and Oklahoma State beats Texas Tech, Oklahoma State TCU next week is a monster.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_03: Best game of the Big 12 in a long time.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that would be fun.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_03: Uh BYU at Notre Dame, Notre Dame minus three and a half.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_03: Mike, do you know who's cool and who's gonna be at that game?
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_03: Oh no, I don't.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_03: Jesus.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_03: The Catholics and the Mormons are gonna be are battling it out.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_03: Um I have Buzzing.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_03: Buzzing.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_03: I have no idea who's gonna um win that game, frankly.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_03: Probably no, maybe Notre Dame's gonna cover.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_03: Um, but the Catholics, the Mormons, Jesus, the Holy Spirit will be in the house.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_02: There's gonna be a lot of good feelings, good vibes, and I'm sure just good hospitality.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_03: Uh good stuff.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_03: Uh Florida State at NC State, both teams coming off a loss.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_03: NC State's a three-point favorite.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_03: Which team bounces back?
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_03: NC State.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_03: They're better than Florida State.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_03: Uh Wake Forest exposed them for who they are.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_02: I like NC State.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_02: I've liked NC State.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_02: Um what happened against Clemson is what Clemson is going to do when they're doing their thing.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_02: Um, and so while I thought that NC State had a good opportunity there, um, they're still a really good football team.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_02: They've got an excellent defense.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_02: Um, Florida State is is still not quite there.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_02: They've they're still a year or two away, I think, from from where they want to be.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_02: So yeah, NC State for me.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_03: Cool.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_03: Uh UNC at Miami, Miami, the U, uh, minus three and a half.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_03: Um, Tyler Van Dyke and Drake May take the over.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this is a fun quarterback matchup.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_03: I want to see 80 points on the board.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_03: I'm taking I don't know who's gonna win.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_03: I don't know who's covering, but I'm taking the over.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_02: I like I like UNC in this one.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_02: I like UNC.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_02: I know Miami was kind of the sexy um you know preseason darling, but uh yeah, I like UNC.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_02: I know it's at Miami, but give me, give me, give me the tar heels.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_03: Give me the tar heels.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_03: Good stuff.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_03: All right, that's the other we got.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_03: And anything else?
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_03: Any other I I just picked picked eight or nine if I thought were interesting.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_03: Anything any other ones you want to throw in here?
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_02: No, I think we've we've gone long enough.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we probably have.
