- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, y'all. Today is the 28th of October in the
- 0:06Speaker 1: year of our Lord, 2026. And it is the Feast
- 0:10Speaker 1: of St. Simon and Jude Apostles, which is always a
- 0:13Speaker 1: special day for me because St. Jude's my confirmation saint.
- 0:17Speaker 1: My nickname being Judd, I went with Jude and because
- 0:21Speaker 1: he's a patron saint of lost causes. And it's a
- 0:26Speaker 1: miracle I'm still around. Let's just put it that way.
- 0:29Speaker 1: So today's gospel comes from Luke chapter 6, verses 12
- 0:33Speaker 1: through 16. And it came to pass in those days
- 0:37Speaker 1: that he went out into a mountain to pray, and
- 0:40Speaker 1: he passed the whole night in the prayer of God.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And when day was come, he called unto him his disciples,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and he chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles. Simon,
- 0:52Speaker 1: whom he surnamed Peter. and Andrew, his brother, James and John,
- 0:57Speaker 1: Philip and Bartholomew, Matthew and Thomas, James, the son of
- 1:00Speaker 1: Alphaeus and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Jude,
- 1:06Speaker 1: the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who was the traitor.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Not long ago, I was passing through a small town,
- 1:14Speaker 1: and I saw a Protestant storefront church was signed proclaiming,
- 1:18Speaker 1: Next Wednesday night, special guest, Apostle Paul, John Smith. Well,
- 1:23Speaker 1: John Smith was not the nameless sign, but I felt
- 1:25Speaker 1: it would be better to change it to something generic.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You see, a lot of the more fringe Protestant denominations
- 1:33Speaker 1: have ministers who call themselves apostles. And one really must ask,
- 1:38Speaker 1: by what right do you give yourself that title? In
- 1:42Speaker 1: the entire history of Christianity, for about 2,000 years, Only
- 1:48Speaker 1: the hand-chosen apostles to whom Jesus gave that title dared
- 1:52Speaker 1: call themselves apostle. The Bible shows us that the apostles
- 1:56Speaker 1: were given the full power of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost,
- 2:00Speaker 1: minus Judas, of course, because he went out and hanged himself, apparently,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and could perform all the miracles of Jesus. They understood
- 2:08Speaker 1: and spoke all languages. They could raise the dead, heal
- 2:11Speaker 1: the sick, and cast out demons. St. Peter even calls
- 2:15Speaker 1: two people to drop dead simply by speaking to them
- 2:18Speaker 1: about the fraud they had committed against the church. The
- 2:21Speaker 1: apostles taught with the full authority of God and they
- 2:24Speaker 1: had the ability to choose successors and bind to them
- 2:27Speaker 1: the power to perform the sacraments and to lead the
- 2:30Speaker 1: church after they passed. Not only does no one outside
- 2:35Speaker 1: of apostolic succession have any measure of the power and
- 2:38Speaker 1: authority that God gave to his apostles, but no one
- 2:41Speaker 1: has the right to call him or herself a Apostle, bishop,
- 2:46Speaker 1: or priest outside of the one holy Catholic and apostolic church. Unfortunately,
- 2:51Speaker 1: many do so in ignorance. God will judge them based
- 2:55Speaker 1: on their understanding and their love for him. But the
- 2:59Speaker 1: confusion such people have sown is hard to fathom. From
- 3:03Speaker 1: the time of Luther, they have declared their personal interpretations
- 3:06Speaker 1: of Holy Scripture as infallible, guided by the Holy Spirit,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and have claimed to have a greater authority than that
- 3:12Speaker 1: of the Catholic Church. They have claimed to have prophecies
- 3:16Speaker 1: and visions. Millions of souls have been put into great
- 3:19Speaker 1: peril by those who sin against the Holy Spirit through
- 3:23Speaker 1: assuming such authority. No matter the opinion of any man
- 3:27Speaker 1: or woman, if it disagrees with the teachings of the
- 3:30Speaker 1: Catholic Church, it is wrong, pure and simple. God gave
- 3:34Speaker 1: only to his hand-chosen and named apostles and to the
- 3:39Speaker 1: church he founded through them such authority. It doesn't matter
- 3:44Speaker 1: if it's a doctor, a scholar, a genius, a president,
- 3:48Speaker 1: or a king. If someone says something that disagrees with
- 3:52Speaker 1: the Catholic Church, it is quite plainly, bluntly, honestly wrong.
- 3:58Speaker 1: All right, y'all. Have a good day, and I'll talk
- 4:02Speaker 1: to you tomorrow morning.
