- 0:30Sean McAllister: It's episode 243 of Vegas Revealed.
- 0:34Sean McAllister: Las Vegas is home to the only MSG sphere in the world, right?
- 0:38Sean McAllister: Well, not for long.
- 0:39Sean McAllister: Wait till you hear which city is getting sphere number two.
- 0:43Dayna Roselli: As Halloween gets closer, spooky stories of Las Vegas' past emerge.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: And there was people buried in the basement.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: That's what they said.
- 0:52Dayna Roselli: The haunted history of the oldest hotel casino in Las Vegas.
- 0:56Sean McAllister: Plus the paranormal passport that rewards you for visiting Nevada ghost towns.
- 1:02Dayna Roselli: The largest real ice rink is opening on the strip for the holiday season, a food and drink deal we found that only cost two bucks, and an underground distillery with ties to the mob.
- 1:13Sean McAllister: All that and more this week on Vegas Reveal.
- 1:18Sean McAllister: Vegas Reveal, presented by Level Up Law, starts now.
- 1:23Dayna Roselli: Welcome to Vegas Revealed, episode 243.
- 1:26Dayna Roselli: Dana Roselli and Sean McAllister here, and we start off the show with some news from Sphere.
- 1:32Dayna Roselli: We aren't going to be the only ones anymore.
- 1:34Sean McAllister: I know.
- 1:34Sean McAllister: That was, I mean, since Sphere opened a year ago, uh we've loved the fact that Las Vegas has been home to the only sphere in the world.
- 1:46Sean McAllister: Right.
- 1:46Sean McAllister: But unfortunately, well, I mean, it's good for MSG Entertainment because they're the ones who who build these things.
- 1:54Sean McAllister: But unfortunately for Las Vegas, there is going to be a second sphere, it was just announced, but it is on the other side of the world.
- 2:02Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 2:02Dayna Roselli: I mean, it'll be fine.
- 2:03Dayna Roselli: And it's going to take a while to put together.
- 2:05Sean McAllister: It will.
- 2:06Sean McAllister: It will.
- 2:06Sean McAllister: We don't even have an opening date in the announcement that was sent out.
- 2:10Sean McAllister: So sphere two is what we're calling it, sphere two.
- 2:14Sean McAllister: Uh, the original will always be in Las Vegas.
- 2:17Sean McAllister: But the second one is uh apparently they're looking to build it in Abu Dhabi.
- 2:22Dayna Roselli: Okay, interesting.
- 2:23Dayna Roselli: Never been.
- 2:24Sean McAllister: Yeah, I've never been either.
- 2:26Dayna Roselli: So good for yeah, that side of the world, right?
- 2:30Dayna Roselli: And I think it's good that it's another side of the world because then you'll have, you know, people on that side have a sphere closer to them to go to, and then on this side of the world, so I mean there's plenty to go around.
- 2:40Sean McAllister: That's right.
- 2:41Sean McAllister: And in the uh announcement that Sphere sent over to us, um, the partners they're partnering with the essentially the LVCVA of Abu Dhabi.
- 2:51Sean McAllister: Right.
- 2:52Sean McAllister: And uh they say that they're excited to put Sphere in a prime location and to add to the already exciting environment that they have over there with this cutting-edge venue where you know they'll do sporting events and concerts and theatrical releases as well, like we've seen here.
- 3:12Sean McAllister: Um, so I have no doubt it'll be quite the draw.
- 3:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, definitely.
- 3:17Dayna Roselli: And they're gonna love it over there.
- 3:18Dayna Roselli: I think it's a good fit.
- 3:19Dayna Roselli: You know, it was there was rumors that it was supposed to go to London next, but remember, like they had an issue with light pollution and they didn't want it.
- 3:26Dayna Roselli: And it's like, all right, well, moving on, right?
- 3:28Dayna Roselli: Good for them.
- 3:28Sean McAllister: Well, when we spoke with uh, you know, the guy who thought of the sphere, uh James Dolan, who's the head of MSG Entertainment, and uh when we spoke with him at the grand opening of Sphere in Las Vegas, he said he was already looking at locations for a number two.
- 3:46Sean McAllister: He threw New York out there, as you mentioned, London.
- 3:50Sean McAllister: Um obviously, neither of those cities had had terms that were really appealing to to draw sphere to them.
- 3:58Sean McAllister: Right.
- 3:59Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and he complimented Las Vegas and how easy we are to work with.
- 4:02Dayna Roselli: So you could tell there was a little bit of a something there, but um hey, you know, that's the thing.
- 4:07Dayna Roselli: You you move on.
- 4:08Dayna Roselli: There are plenty of places across the globe, and the sphere is so cool.
- 4:12Dayna Roselli: Um, it's such a huge draw.
- 4:14Dayna Roselli: It's been so wonderful for our tourism and visitor numbers.
- 4:18Dayna Roselli: So um good for them.
- 4:20Sean McAllister: Well, in the global attention that has been put on sphere really has been remarkable.
- 4:26Sean McAllister: I mean, you see people tuning in to live streams anytime there's uh a new image put on the outside.
- 4:33Sean McAllister: Just recently there was a big Mac put up on the outside, a big McDonald's advertisement.
- 4:38Sean McAllister: Those video clips go in almost instantly viral online.
- 4:44Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 4:44Dayna Roselli: And I think that, you know, we do a good job of when there's a things here we help promote or help push or have some fun with, like just say the opposite team.
- 4:54Dayna Roselli: Like when Syracuse was playing UNLV, they put the Syracuse orange on the You know what I mean?
- 4:59Dayna Roselli: And then, you know, I had friends texting me, like, hey, saw the orange, which names like Otto or something, on the sphere, you know, and like so it it's so great in making people want to see this thing in person and experience it in person.
- 5:14Dayna Roselli: And it's it welcomes everyone.
- 5:15Dayna Roselli: That's the thing.
- 5:16Dayna Roselli: Whether you're here, you're not, you're you're visiting us, you're an opposing team, whatever it may be.
- 5:21Sean McAllister: And obviously, being in uh Las Vegas and in the United States, culturally, it's going to be different what they program with over in Abu Dhabi as well.
- 5:32Sean McAllister: So that'll be exciting to see, you know, how that all evolves as well.
- 5:38Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 5:38Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so I guess we'll learn more, you know, as it develops and as construction gets underway.
- 5:43Sean McAllister: Uh, but there is already been, uh, turning back here to Las Vegas, there's already been construction underway over at the Rio Hotel Casino, and they've just finished the first phase of their big remodel that's been going on over there for quite some time.
- 5:59Dayna Roselli: Yeah, we told you about this.
- 6:01Dayna Roselli: Um, we've been covering it because there's been so much interest.
- 6:04Dayna Roselli: But yeah, phase one is done now.
- 6:06Dayna Roselli: So we talked, you know, in the past about how they opened up the canteen food hall, they made some adjustments on the casino floor.
- 6:13Dayna Roselli: Their convention space has been uh looks like a beautiful major upgrade.
- 6:18Dayna Roselli: Um, so that's kind of cool.
- 6:20Dayna Roselli: Like 220,000 square feet of meeting and convention space they remodeled.
- 6:25Dayna Roselli: And according to the pictures that they sent us, it looks really good.
- 6:28Dayna Roselli: They have the revamped pool district with four distinct pools, um, a new exterior art installation, which we've bragged about because we love it.
- 6:38Dayna Roselli: Whenever you drive by, you can't help be like, that looks really cool.
- 6:42Sean McAllister: And and what we're talking about is the lights on the outside of the building.
- 6:46Sean McAllister: They replaced all of them.
- 6:48Sean McAllister: Uh, you know, it was the old neon tubes, and it looks like they did something with LED on the outside because the colors are always changing, they're dancing, they're like drip down the walls.
- 6:58Sean McAllister: I mean, it really is the just purely from the outside, the aesthetic has really changed and made it feel like a new modern resort.
- 7:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's true.
- 7:12Dayna Roselli: They opened the Lappa Lounge, which we visited and was nice.
- 7:15Dayna Roselli: Uh, the luckily tavern is now open over there.
- 7:17Dayna Roselli: They opened up a Starbucks.
- 7:18Dayna Roselli: So a lot going on.
- 7:19Dayna Roselli: Phase one is done.
- 7:20Dayna Roselli: Uh, we did sit down with the owner of Dreamscape on a previous episode of Vegas Revealed.
- 7:25Dayna Roselli: And uh, you may remember he said this is all part of, you know, this is phase one.
- 7:29Dayna Roselli: There's gonna be a phase two.
- 7:30Dayna Roselli: This is all part of a larger vision.
- 7:32Dayna Roselli: So if you want to hear that interview with Eric Birnbaum, you can go to our YouTube channel or listen to a previous audio podcast of Vegas Revealed where we put the interview um just to kind of see what the entire vision is there.
- 7:46Dayna Roselli: I know there's a lot of interest, even just the the video interview has more than 27,000 views.
- 7:50Dayna Roselli: So people have been been watching that.
- 7:52Dayna Roselli: Something that caught your eye that came in uh just recently, though, in addition to phase one, the uh Palazzo Villas have now been remodeled.
- 8:00Dayna Roselli: And I know you kind of know more about that than I do.
- 8:03Dayna Roselli: What are those?
- 8:04Sean McAllister: Yeah, so this is on the grounds over there at Rio, but it's kind of a a separate structure.
- 8:11Sean McAllister: There is this giant villa that's constructed kind of off the pool area.
- 8:16Sean McAllister: There's an entrance over toward the convention.
- 8:19Sean McAllister: Uh, as you're walking to the convention area, there's doors to go over to these palazzo villas.
- 8:25Sean McAllister: Um, but these range from one bedroom to six bedroom villas that they have housed in this complex, and it's super luxury.
- 8:35Sean McAllister: I know uh back when Elton John, Olivia Newton John, uh Brittany Spears, when they had residencies here, uh, they each stayed over at these Palazzo villas at different times.
- 8:47Sean McAllister: And um, so that gives you an idea of you know, it's full butler service, all that kind of thing.
- 8:55Sean McAllister: So they have been uh remodeled now and are now reopen again uh from one to six bedrooms, the six-bedroom villa is nearly 14,000 square feet.
- 9:08Dayna Roselli: Wow.
- 9:08Sean McAllister: That's huge, a big space to stay.
- 9:11Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 9:12Dayna Roselli: So you can bring everyone.
- 9:13Sean McAllister: So if you're living in a a mansion in Malibu right now, you will have no problem transitioning to this six-bedroom villa for the weekend.
- 9:23Dayna Roselli: Okay, definitely not.
- 9:25Dayna Roselli: So we'll have to dig deeper and find out some of the prices on that.
- 9:28Dayna Roselli: You might have to call for that one.
- 9:29Dayna Roselli: I don't think it's something you can book online.
- 9:30Sean McAllister: Uh no, I think it actually said in the in the announcement that we got that you have to call.
- 9:35Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 9:36Dayna Roselli: But we do need a lot of that.
- 9:37Dayna Roselli: We have a lot of, you know, celebrities, high rollers, people that want to come in, like come in from across the country and want to kind of be planted somewhere for a while.
- 9:46Dayna Roselli: Business stuff, people want to bring their whole family, you know, and maybe it's a really big family.
- 9:52Dayna Roselli: So makes sense.
- 9:53Sean McAllister: I mean, um there's no better reason to have a family reunion in Las Vegas, right?
- 9:58Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 9:59Sean McAllister: Just book the villa.
- 10:00Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 10:00Dayna Roselli: Just invite Sean and I.
- 10:02Sean McAllister: Yes, let us know so we can get it on the calendar.
- 10:06Dayna Roselli: Well, listen, we are approaching Halloween, and I know there are people who just absolutely love Halloween.
- 10:12Dayna Roselli: They love the haunted houses, they love the creepiness, or some just love the cheeriness of dressing up in a fun costume or a creepy costume, all that kind of thing.
- 10:22Dayna Roselli: There's tons of events uh around Las Vegas, but we wanted to get to some kind of old ghost stories for a minute.
- 10:29Dayna Roselli: Now, did you know the El Cortez in downtown Las Vegas is actually the city's oldest hotel and casino?
- 10:35Dayna Roselli: So you can imagine that over the years, there's actually been a lot of stories about the fame property, including some haunted ones, which I didn't know until we sat down with Kenny Epstein, the CEO and chairman a while back.
- 10:48Sean McAllister: Yeah, and he told us that there have always been stories kind of floating around that there were bodies buried in the basement of the El Cortez.
- 10:57Sean McAllister: I mean, Bugsy Siegel uh founded it, and you know, there it was an interesting time here in Las Vegas back then.
- 11:05Sean McAllister: Yeah, bodies in the basement.
- 11:07Sean McAllister: Well, guess what?
- 11:08Sean McAllister: There is a little bit of truth to it, but with a twist.
- 11:12Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 11:12Sean McAllister: Listen to what Kenny told us.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: That we were, we've had several calls and uh about ghosts at the El Cortez.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Is that right?
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, ghosts of the El Cortez.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: And uh and then we have the history of the of the uh underworld that used to own this place, and there was people buried in the basement.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: That's what they said.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: And then ghosts in the basement.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Well, they were true, there are people buried in the basement.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Uh Jackie gone, who's a special guy, when a porter died and he didn't have any family, he had them cremated, and they gave him the urn because he didn't have any family.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: He put the urns in the basement.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Well, he had about five or six of them down there, and and uh the rumor got out that there's people buried in the basement.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Well, it was really uh boys that had no family that he uh buried them and buried them in the basement with their with their urns.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: So that was that's the story of the ghosts.
- 12:11Dayna Roselli: Isn't that interesting?
- 12:12Dayna Roselli: I love the old stories, and I do love that there's a little bit of truth to it.
- 12:16Sean McAllister: There is, and you know what, I feel like it also just shows what a good guy Jackie Gaughan was to take care of his employees even after they depart the the physical world.
- 12:29Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 12:30Dayna Roselli: So yeah, and you know, El Cortez is is still going strong over there, they've done a bunch of renovations and they continue with that.
- 12:36Dayna Roselli: So uh Kenny's really proud of that property, but he's also always proud to share just the stories, the the the old, you know, old Vegas stories, uh, what makes it unique, uh, some of the old school stuff, some of the stuff they're doing now.
- 12:51Dayna Roselli: And he's like a big cheerleader for that property, and I and I love it.
- 12:54Dayna Roselli: You can just tell when you walk in the room he loves his job.
- 12:57Sean McAllister: Oh, he absolutely does.
- 12:58Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 12:59Sean McAllister: And he's he's all in over there at El Cortez.
- 13:02Sean McAllister: And even with the renovations that they're doing over there right now, um it's he's dead set on keeping that history alive.
- 13:09Sean McAllister: He doesn't want to erase it, just add to it.
- 13:13Dayna Roselli: Well, let's stick with the haunted theme and talk about all the ghost towns we have across Nevada because there is actually a paranormal passport, and that means as you check into these ghost towns and you drive around and you visit and you stop, you can actually, you know, say you've been there and get some merch.
- 13:31Sean McAllister: Yeah, you have to visit a lot of ghost towns to get the merch.
- 13:35Sean McAllister: But that's the idea behind uh travel Nevada has put together this paranormal passport, you download it from their website, and you do it's not an app, it's something that you actually download to your phone and you go through and and check off the ghost towns as you're visiting them and you accumulate points along the way, which you can, you know, cash in for sweatshirts, tote bags, mugs, like some cute things with some haunted Nevada motif on them.
- 14:09Sean McAllister: Um, but what a great idea to get people out into the desert to explore these places that have been uh left vacant since the the mining boom back in the day.
- 14:20Dayna Roselli: I know when you and I were driving um up north, we drove through a couple, but I didn't realize there's over 600 ghost towns in Nevada.
- 14:29Dayna Roselli: You and I went through Tonopah, we saw the Mitspah Hotel, we saw the Clown Motel, which is known as America's scariest motel.
- 14:37Dayna Roselli: And you know, whenever we posted about these things, there's been such a response.
- 14:41Dayna Roselli: So I know people are really into this.
- 14:43Dayna Roselli: So this is definitely something that I think a lot of people would like to do.
- 14:48Sean McAllister: Oh, without a doubt.
- 14:49Sean McAllister: And those these ghost towns really are interesting because you see these big old buildings that have just been left behind, or you see the foundations of these old buildings and the remnants of these towns that that once had thousands and thousands and thousands of people living in them, and it's like people have just picked up one day and and left.
- 15:14Dayna Roselli: A lot of people really enjoy this.
- 15:15Dayna Roselli: I don't know.
- 15:16Dayna Roselli: It makes me makes me nervous.
- 15:18Sean McAllister: You know what I just heard this morning on one of the uh morning news shows is that uh behind Christmas, Halloween is like the holiday that people spend the most money.
- 15:31Sean McAllister: Which is which, you know, when you r add up the candy, the costumes, the whatever else you're gonna do.
- 15:38Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 15:38Dayna Roselli: I don't know.
- 15:39Dayna Roselli: I'm not a big Halloween fan.
- 15:41Sean McAllister: No?
- 15:42Dayna Roselli: No, never have been.
- 15:43Dayna Roselli: In fact, I was married at one point in my life and and the ex loved Halloween, and I don't know, that might be part of the reason it didn't work out.
- 15:51Dayna Roselli: I just wasn't into it.
- 15:55Sean McAllister: See, I really enjoy Halloween, but I like to do the really I like to do the really gory makeup with prosthetics and all that stuff, but for the past several years, I've just really not had the time to spend in planning that kind of thing because there's a lot of you have to figure it out and get all the pieces together for a costume like that.
- 16:17Sean McAllister: And so I haven't really been into it because I haven't had the time to to invest.
- 16:24Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 16:24Dayna Roselli: I mean I've been invited to a bunch of ha uh Halloween parties and it's hard for me to really because I'm like, I have to come up.
- 16:30Dayna Roselli: Like I usually come up with something simple, but I don't know.
- 16:34Dayna Roselli: I can't even think of what well we did the costume contest once where we judged over at uh circa.
- 16:40Dayna Roselli: That was fun.
- 16:41Dayna Roselli: See, I'm all about that.
- 16:42Sean McAllister: I'll show up and judge.
- 16:43Sean McAllister: Show up and judge.
- 16:45Dayna Roselli: Sounds great.
- 16:46Dayna Roselli: But I was thinking I would make a good Kamala Harris this year, wouldn't I?
- 16:49Sean McAllister: Oh, you wouldn't.
- 16:50Dayna Roselli: Just put the suit on, the the standard necklace.
- 16:54Sean McAllister: And you like to laugh.
- 16:55Dayna Roselli: And I like to laugh, right?
- 16:57Dayna Roselli: I could get some lines down, I could shake hands at the party.
- 17:03Dayna Roselli: But I was like, because I always go with like, who do I kind of resemble that I could pull off?
- 17:09Dayna Roselli: You know, it's like I could never do Britney Spears, I could never do Paris Hilton.
- 17:15Sean McAllister: Right.
- 17:15Dayna Roselli: But, you know, you have to kind of go with what you have.
- 17:18Dayna Roselli: Like, okay, then because it makes it easier to put together.
- 17:21Dayna Roselli: I'm all about easy.
- 17:22Sean McAllister: That is very true.
- 17:23Dayna Roselli: But that's the thing.
- 17:24Dayna Roselli: It's not supposed to be easy.
- 17:25Dayna Roselli: You're supposed to put a lot of thought and put all that, you know.
- 17:28Sean McAllister: Well, anyway.
- 17:30Sean McAllister: We will see what happens.
- 17:31Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 17:31Dayna Roselli: By the way, back to paranormal.
- 17:33Dayna Roselli: You know what?
- 17:33Dayna Roselli: Maybe we should just throw that interview in so people can understand more about the paranormal passport.
- 17:38Dayna Roselli: Because you know what, we have it, we're putting it in the TV show.
- 17:40Dayna Roselli: Let's run that.
- 17:41Dayna Roselli: We actually had a great interview with Travel Nevada.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Nevada is perfect for spooky season.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: So there's a couple places in Nevada that are really popular, so popular in the fact that they've been on a lot of those ghost hunter television shows before.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Um, Virginia City is always known as a paranormal hotspot.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: There's the Watch Hill Club, they do ghost tours.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: You have the Gold Hill Hotel, which is known for having a haunting room.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: There's always some lore behind people who like has to wait in the hotel and against their is another awesome destination for those that are looking for the cookie theme.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Um the middle, um, you know, it's always been known as one of the most hunted hotels in the USA.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: And again, so that's most famous to go to the lady in the coach.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: So it's kind of nice in the room.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: It's free to use um and it's not even a few minutes to find.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: So yeah, please, certainly.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: It's really funny sweatshirt with a spooky illustration on it.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think that's what's really unique about Nevada is that we have what more ghost towns than we do living towns.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: You know, we kind of have this Halloween vibe year-round.
- 19:34Sean McAllister: So if uh you're looking for a very spooky fall road trip, uh, the Paranormal Passport is a great way to guide you around Nevada and get you to these ghost towns.
- 19:47Sean McAllister: You can download it at travelnevada.com.
- 19:51Sean McAllister: And by the way, the paranormal passport is available all year round, not just for Halloween.
- 19:57Dayna Roselli: Oh, yeah.
- 19:58Dayna Roselli: So you can do it anytime.
- 19:59Dayna Roselli: You need uh plenty of time to hit 600 ghost towns.
- 20:03Dayna Roselli: But you can do it with throughout the year, you know.
- 20:04Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 20:05Dayna Roselli: It's fun.
- 20:06Dayna Roselli: People are always looking for road trips.
- 20:07Dayna Roselli: So hey, listen, we wanted to quickly mention the Arte Museum.
- 20:10Dayna Roselli: We talk about it often.
- 20:11Dayna Roselli: It's one of our favorite museums on the Las Vegas strip, but they are doing a night of the living Arte.
- 20:16Dayna Roselli: I love this, a brand new Halloween-themed exhibit.
- 20:19Dayna Roselli: We did see some visuals, and man, it looks cool.
- 20:21Dayna Roselli: So this might be something to do if you're interested in going to a fall or Halloween-themed type of attraction.
- 20:30Dayna Roselli: Uh, Friday, October 25th and Saturday, October 26th, from five to eight.
- 20:34Dayna Roselli: Ticket holders are gonna receive a complimentary gift and some surprises along with their admission.
- 20:39Dayna Roselli: You're encouraged to wear a costume that doesn't have a mask for an additional free giveaway.
- 20:45Dayna Roselli: Then they have the Halloween pumpkins and zombies exhibit in there too, and that's gonna be available for ticket holders again, starting October 25th through Halloween night.
- 20:57Dayna Roselli: Um, but they do a lot of different like uh like kind of enchantment stuff, fall season stuff, I uh the pumpkins, really captivating blend of kind of art and technology over there.
- 21:07Dayna Roselli: So I don't know if you're interested in that, I think it'd be a good choice.
- 21:11Sean McAllister: And I know that uh, you know, especially in recent years, parents have been much more reluctant to do the house-to-house trick-or-treating, especially if you're going to houses where you don't know the people who live there.
- 21:24Sean McAllister: You know, the trunk or treat stuff has become uh more popular, and this is also a great activity to take the family to.
- 21:32Sean McAllister: The kids, I mean, we've been in there and kids are just completely in awe of their surroundings because it r it really is kind of a magical thing, especially through the eyes of a child.
- 21:45Dayna Roselli: True, true.
- 21:46Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so true.
- 21:47Dayna Roselli: And it's it's a classy spot too.
- 21:49Dayna Roselli: It is.
- 21:49Dayna Roselli: You know, it's very nice.
- 21:50Dayna Roselli: So love that.
- 21:52Dayna Roselli: Um, I think that's a that that's a great idea.
- 21:54Dayna Roselli: Hey, um, not Halloween related, but you know, as we approach Thanksgiving, the fountain blue is a noun.
- 22:00Dayna Roselli: They're opening a real ice rink.
- 22:02Dayna Roselli: And it looks like it's going to be in the pool area as well.
- 22:06Dayna Roselli: They usually do it outside, and most of the hotel casinos, if they do it at all, it's always kind of in the pool area because there's a nice wide open space there.
- 22:14Dayna Roselli: But this is actually going to open so the night before Thanksgiving, or that's the day before Thanksgiving, that Wednesday.
- 22:20Sean McAllister: Yeah, and uh this is part of a property-wide winter wonderland takeover that's happening over there at Fountain Blue.
- 22:28Sean McAllister: And it, I mean, what a great spot.
- 22:31Sean McAllister: First of all, the pool deck up there at Fountain Blue is huge and it's beautiful.
- 22:37Sean McAllister: It would make for a great, I'm excited to see what it looks like all dressed up for the holidays.
- 22:42Dayna Roselli: Well, because like you said, it it sounds like they really like plan to turn this into this lovely winter wonderland, including a holiday village on ice, holiday cabanas, there'll be photo moments.
- 22:54Dayna Roselli: There's gonna be fire pit uh rentals, um uh the bites and cocktails.
- 23:00Dayna Roselli: They're gonna do holiday movie showings too, a few nights a week.
- 23:04Dayna Roselli: Those are at 8 p.m.
- 23:05Dayna Roselli: and you can see holiday movies with the family.
- 23:08Dayna Roselli: I mean, this is so cool.
- 23:09Sean McAllister: And uh, you know, if you want to take full advantage of everything they're doing, they do have uh special winter wonderland packages available.
- 23:18Sean McAllister: You can go to Fountain Blue's website to get all the details on that.
- 23:22Sean McAllister: But um it it really is uh fun to see how you know Fountain Blue is a new property on the strip.
- 23:30Sean McAllister: So it's fun to see what they're going to contribute to the holiday scene on the Las Vegas strip.
- 23:37Dayna Roselli: Yeah, because it opened in December, so they haven't had like a November ring yet, you know?
- 23:41Dayna Roselli: And and by the way, so it is gonna they're gonna use they're using real ice, by the way, and also um having two rinks, which I think is cool.
- 23:48Dayna Roselli: So there's gonna be one for public, and then another one will be used like for bookings for like private holiday parties or events, and so that way you're not combining both, you know?
- 23:59Dayna Roselli: So it's it there'll be plenty of room to skate if you're going.
- 24:01Sean McAllister: Oh, we should do a Vegas revealed skate night.
- 24:04Dayna Roselli: We should do that, except I'm not good on ice skates.
- 24:06Dayna Roselli: No, no, terrible.
- 24:08Dayna Roselli: I we talked about this last time.
- 24:09Dayna Roselli: I'm better at roller skating.
- 24:11Dayna Roselli: I used to ice skate on ponds when I was young, and that was easy.
- 24:14Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 24:14Dayna Roselli: But then I went when I once I went into the professional rinks, I fell over and it's all coming back to me now.
- 24:19Dayna Roselli: It's all over.
- 24:20Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 24:21Dayna Roselli: It's weird.
- 24:21Dayna Roselli: I grew up grew up in a very cold area, but I don't ski and I don't ice skate.
- 24:27Dayna Roselli: But I've also knocked on wood, never broken a bone.
- 24:29Dayna Roselli: So then I want to keep it that way.
- 24:31Sean McAllister: Then it's a good thing for you that there's uh a roller skating option coming to town this winter, too.
- 24:37Sean McAllister: I'm excited for that over at Venetian.
- 24:39Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 24:39Dayna Roselli: But I will go to the ice skating rink and watch everyone else and take part in all the uh fire pit and cocktails.
- 24:45Sean McAllister: There we go.
- 24:46Sean McAllister: That's the way the options operate skate.
- 24:49Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 24:50Dayna Roselli: I in listen, I love a good popcorn and movie, so that sounds fun.
- 24:54Sean McAllister: Hey, the uh When We Were Young festival is uh coming up this weekend here in Las Vegas, and there was just kind of a shakeup with the the lineup.
- 25:04Sean McAllister: All American Rejects were one of the headliners of the festival, and just within the past week, the the band put out a statement saying that they're no longer a part of the festival.
- 25:16Dayna Roselli: I know, and I was looking at the response, and a lot of people were really bummed.
- 25:20Dayna Roselli: They were one of the highlights.
- 25:21Dayna Roselli: I mean, they do have such a long list of bands that are going to be performing in their group.
- 25:25Sean McAllister: Great entertainment still, yes.
- 25:26Dayna Roselli: Great entertainment, and people will have a blast.
- 25:28Dayna Roselli: But yeah, they did say um that they have spent months tirelessly planning and preparing for this once-in-a-lifetime show, and they were excited about it.
- 25:38Dayna Roselli: But anyway, they said there's been a management change within the operation, and they're no longer able to accommodate what they had previously agreed upon.
- 25:46Dayna Roselli: So they needed to pull out, and so the um All American rejects will not be part of the festival, but like you said, huge lineup, and it looks like they just released the lineup for the weekend, too.
- 25:58Dayna Roselli: So um they're prepared.
- 25:59Dayna Roselli: I live across the street, so I've been watching the setup go up, looks very nice, and hopefully this festival will go off without a hitch.
- 26:07Dayna Roselli: And one, two, three, four, it looks like they've got like five stages going.
- 26:10Dayna Roselli: So that'll be good.
- 26:12Sean McAllister: And that uh festival ground over there always has it I it can accommodate huge crowds, and uh they do people have a good time over there at those festivals, and I believe that um tickets for this one went really quick, too.
- 26:30Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 26:31Dayna Roselli: Looks like uh My Chemical Rome Romance will be performing as one of the headliners one night.
- 26:37Dayna Roselli: Fallout Boy got a great lineup.
- 26:39Dayna Roselli: Boys like girls, Jimmy Eat World.
- 26:41Dayna Roselli: I know you like them.
- 26:41Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 26:42Dayna Roselli: Uh pretty girls make graves.
- 26:44Dayna Roselli: Never heard of them, but then again, I'm sometimes out of the loop.
- 26:46Dayna Roselli: Sounds like sounds like a good time.
- 26:49Sean McAllister: So again, when we were young festival, uh moving on as planned this weekend, except without uh All American rejects as part of that lineup.
- 27:01Dayna Roselli: All right, let's do some tips now.
- 27:05Dayna Roselli: All right, Sean, I'm gonna let you take this one away.
- 27:08Dayna Roselli: Uh, this tip comes from a couple things you did over the weekend, and you were like, I've got to share this with everyone.
- 27:14Sean McAllister: Yeah, so uh Shane, my husband and I, we got married in downtown Las Vegas.
- 27:18Sean McAllister: We just had our anniversary, so we had a nice dinner down there at uh Triple George Grill and um then went out for uh some cocktails afterward.
- 27:28Sean McAllister: But as we were roaming around in downtown Las Vegas, we stopped into the downtown grand, and there were people everywhere walking around with hot dogs and beer.
- 27:40Sean McAllister: Okay, and like double fisting, very Americana, very Americana, and I was like, what's going on?
- 27:48Sean McAllister: And then I it dawned on me, my memory was jogged that like the hot dogs and beer is a thing over at downtown Grand.
- 27:56Sean McAllister: So I looked at went over to where they were serving them, and it's cheap.
- 28:00Sean McAllister: It's two dollars, two bucks for a hot dog in a beer.
- 28:05Sean McAllister: Wow, so that's why people were double fisting.
- 28:09Dayna Roselli: I mean, you can't get like one taco for that.
- 28:12Sean McAllister: No, for five bucks, you can get two hot dogs and two beers.
- 28:16Dayna Roselli: Wow, and it's a Nathan's hot dog and a Paps Blue ribbon?
- 28:19Sean McAllister: A Nathan's hot dog, a Paps blue ribbon.
- 28:22Dayna Roselli: Even more classy.
- 28:23Sean McAllister: This is something that happens regularly over at downtown Grand.
- 28:28Sean McAllister: So if you find yourself in downtown Las Vegas and your tummy's starting to rumble, you only got a couple bucks in your pocket, this is the place to go.
- 28:38Sean McAllister: Just inside the door that's over there, uh, right off of Third Street.
- 28:42Sean McAllister: So I don't know.
- 28:43Sean McAllister: I saw that and thought that that was uh a great deal that that we should share.
- 28:49Dayna Roselli: So is it uh$2 hot dog and a beer is$2, or is it$2 for the hot dog,$2 for the beer?
- 28:55Sean McAllister: No.
- 28:55Dayna Roselli: Because even that would be reasonable.
- 28:57Sean McAllister: Two dollars for$2, you get a hot dog and a beer.
- 29:00Dayna Roselli: Wow, okay.
- 29:01Dayna Roselli: So even if you're not hungry and you just want to get a beer, you can hand your hot dog to someone else on the street who's hungry.
- 29:08Sean McAllister: Absolutely, and you will always find someone on the street who's hungry.
- 29:12Sean McAllister: And by the way, down there, uh there's that whole district on Third Street where the downtown Grand is, and that's I don't know, maybe a two blocks off of Fremont Street.
- 29:23Sean McAllister: Um and that block between the downtown Grand and Fremont, there's a brand new food hall that was built in there also, and it looks really nice.
- 29:35Sean McAllister: Okay, they really spruced up that area to make it um a nice walkable zone with food options.
- 29:42Sean McAllister: So I it was the first time I've been down there to to see that, and it it looks really nice.
- 29:47Sean McAllister: They did a good job with it.
- 29:48Dayna Roselli: Okay, cool.
- 29:49Dayna Roselli: And then you went to the mob museum.
- 29:51Sean McAllister: We did, and it wasn't for uh a tour of the museum like you would normally do, go buy a ticket, go through the whole museum and have that experience, which is great by the way.
- 30:00Sean McAllister: Uh, we went to the uh mob museum underground, the basement of the mob museum.
- 30:06Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 30:06Dayna Roselli: Now we've talked about this before and actually done it as a tip, but have never actually went to experience it.
- 30:12Dayna Roselli: So you went to now experience it.
- 30:14Dayna Roselli: So this is like updated tip.
- 30:15Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 30:16Sean McAllister: So there's a speakeasy and distillery down in the basement of the mob museum.
- 30:22Sean McAllister: And to get there, if you're looking uh at the building straight on, uh you there's a driveway over to the right hand side, and it says deliveries down this way.
- 30:34Sean McAllister: You walk down that driveway, and there's a a staircase that goes like down to the basement door.
- 30:41Sean McAllister: It's not marked, you just kind of have to know where to go.
- 30:44Sean McAllister: Right.
- 30:45Sean McAllister: And you get down there and there's a door that has one of those little slider things like a speakeasy.
- 30:50Sean McAllister: Cool.
- 30:50Sean McAllister: And they don't let you in unless you have the password, right?
- 30:54Sean McAllister: Which changes every week.
- 30:55Dayna Roselli: And you get it on social media, right?
- 30:57Sean McAllister: Uh on their website.
- 30:58Dayna Roselli: A website, okay.
- 30:59Sean McAllister: But you have to read very carefully.
- 31:02Sean McAllister: You have to read the speakeasy part of the website carefully in order to find it.
- 31:08Sean McAllister: It's not like just plastered up there.
- 31:12Sean McAllister: Right.
- 31:12Sean McAllister: Um, so we did.
- 31:13Sean McAllister: We went over there and it was really cool down there.
- 31:16Sean McAllister: They have all this 1920s prohibition era uh memorabilia that's down there.
- 31:22Sean McAllister: Memorabilia or artifacts, whatever.
- 31:25Sean McAllister: Um, that stuff is down there.
- 31:27Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 31:28Sean McAllister: And then uh they distill their own moonshine down here in an old uh classic copper still that's still functional.
- 31:39Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 31:40Sean McAllister: So it's really cool.
- 31:41Sean McAllister: I I really enjoyed this.
- 31:43Sean McAllister: They had a private room down there uh that's behind like this big big picture on the wall opens up and there's a a private room behind it.
- 31:54Dayna Roselli: Oh wow, that's neat.
- 31:55Sean McAllister: It is, and then there's this hallway that has more artifacts down there.
- 31:59Sean McAllister: So it's a it's I highly recommend it.
- 32:02Sean McAllister: We had a great time.
- 32:03Sean McAllister: Live music in there Fridays and Saturdays.
- 32:06Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 32:06Sean McAllister: Um, they have a Halloween party coming up as well on Halloween night from eight to midnight.
- 32:13Sean McAllister: I think it's great.
- 32:15Sean McAllister: Can't wait to go back.
- 32:16Dayna Roselli: Uh yeah, it sounds really cool and very Vegas, like old school Vegas.
- 32:21Sean McAllister: Very Vegas.
- 32:22Sean McAllister: And the servers uh fill you in on some of the mob history and the prohibition uh history that has inspired how they serve and what they serve.
- 32:35Sean McAllister: It's really cool.
- 32:36Sean McAllister: I don't want to give anything away because it's it's a neat thing to go down and experience.
- 32:42Dayna Roselli: Some good tips today.
- 32:43Dayna Roselli: Good show.
- 32:44Dayna Roselli: We're gonna move on.
- 32:45Dayna Roselli: We've got a couple things we're going to this week.
- 32:48Dayna Roselli: We're going over to Giata for a Frey Ranch inspired dinner.
- 32:52Dayna Roselli: Frey Ranch is a whiskey that they make up in northern Nevada.
- 32:56Dayna Roselli: I never know the alcohol terms like you do.
- 32:59Dayna Roselli: What do they do?
- 32:59Dayna Roselli: They don't just make it.
- 33:00Dayna Roselli: It's oh my gosh, it's so bad.
- 33:08Dayna Roselli: Sorry, Frey Ranch.
- 33:09Sean McAllister: Yeah, they which is great.
- 33:11Sean McAllister: If you've listened to the the podcast for a while, you've heard us talk about Frey Ranch and our trip up to the ranch in northern Nevada where they grow every single ingredient that goes into their uh whiskeys and bourbons that they distill right there.
- 33:27Sean McAllister: It's a Nevada grown product, and they've really taken off.
- 33:33Sean McAllister: I'm excited to talk with Ashley and Colby, who are the husband-wife pair who've taken over operations of the farm up there and really, I mean, taken it in a new direction and done incredibly well.
- 33:45Dayna Roselli: I sent a bottle to my brother for Christmas and he's still talking about it.
- 33:48Dayna Roselli: He really liked it, so I'm gonna have to get another.
- 33:50Sean McAllister: It's good quality stuff.
- 33:53Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 33:53Sean McAllister: And uh I was excited because uh we were just over at Voltaire to see uh the Dita Vantis show, which we'll get into um in our next episode as well.
- 34:05Sean McAllister: Uh and I got an old-fashioned at the bar and they said, which kind of bourbon do you want?
- 34:10Sean McAllister: And he put two bottles up on the on the counter.
- 34:12Sean McAllister: I said, Fray ranch, obviously.
- 34:15Sean McAllister: So yeah, we're gonna go, we'll have more on Frey Ranch and our uh dinner with them uh next week.
- 34:21Dayna Roselli: It's so crazy because when you said Dida, like hello, I totally forgot to put it in the show today.
- 34:26Dayna Roselli: But we do so much and we have so many topics, but we wanted to hit a little bit of the Halloween.
- 34:31Dayna Roselli: You're right.
- 34:32Dayna Roselli: So next week we'll talk about Dida.
- 34:33Dayna Roselli: Loved that.
- 34:34Dayna Roselli: That's over at Voltaire, like you mentioned.
- 34:36Sean McAllister: And that's a whole conversation.
- 34:37Dayna Roselli: It is a whole conversation.
- 34:38Dayna Roselli: I've had people actually DM and ask, like, how was it?
- 34:41Dayna Roselli: What's it like?
- 34:41Dayna Roselli: And I have a good little summary of how I would describe it.
- 34:45Dayna Roselli: That's all coming up.
- 34:46Dayna Roselli: There's your teaser for next week, okay?
- 34:49Sean McAllister: So we'll have that and a ton more and our tangent next week on Vegas Reveal.
