- 0:00Happy Tuesday morning. Everybody.
- 0:04Got that song stuck in my head. Style.
- 0:09We never go out of style. We never go out of style.
- 0:15And I got that James Dean Daydream look in your eyes.
- 0:21Come on. All right, Foggy morning here.
- 0:26Very foggy. Let's go take a look.
- 0:30Well, I don't really got to go outside to show you, but let's
- 0:35see here. Let's see.
- 0:39Yeah, very foggy. Very, very foggy here in Daytona
- 0:48Beach, Ormond Beach. As for you, Craiger.
- 0:54All right, today, as Larry Mack say, we going to talk about the
- 1:00Autobahn. While I've been racing out at
- 1:05Volusia, I've had a lot of people stop me and want to talk
- 1:09about my trip to Europe and they all laugh and want to talk about
- 1:13the Autobahn. Autobahn.
- 1:19Autobahn Bahn like you're in school.
- 1:24The H is silent. Just make it, you know, it
- 1:27shouldn't be spelled Autobahn BAWN.
- 1:31But no, they got to do the Bahn thing.
- 1:34OK, So we flew to Frankfurt. We flew N so we could get on the
- 1:41Autobahn and experience it and drive South.
- 1:45We rented a Mercedes. What was that?
- 1:48AMG or something like that? 43 and we did it because we knew
- 1:53it was going to have to run fast.
- 1:55I think it was like 700 and something dollars for basically
- 2:00like two or three days. Very expensive.
- 2:03So the Autobahn is 99.9% of people just like everybody else
- 2:11here in America. It is highly exaggerated.
- 2:15You know, when we went over there, I had this theory that
- 2:19you just get on that damn Autobahn and you just go nuts.
- 2:24Well, that's that's not true. I had to learn it.
- 2:29So got rented us a hot rod and got on that Autobahn and
- 2:38realized quickly that it was very regulated.
- 2:42The first thing my dear friend John Scootoni told me was it's
- 2:45like $5000 over there to get your license.
- 2:50So weeds out a lot of riff raff and when you get your license,
- 2:55besides learning how to drive a car over there in Germany,
- 2:59you're taught what lanes to drive your car in.
- 3:03Now you know over here it's sometimes it's AI wanted to say
- 3:09show, but you know Charlie going to beat me out.
- 3:15Can't do it here on social media, but I'll get beeped out
- 3:18over on YouTube. But over here in America, the
- 3:23highways are show because everybody get a license and you
- 3:27get the people that just are mean and they're having a bad
- 3:30day. So they run down the left lane,
- 3:32which is the fast lane over here in America.
- 3:35They run down the left lane, 5560 mile an hour.
- 3:39Look in the mirror, I'm blocking everybody up.
- 3:41I'm having a bad day. And then the road rage ensues.
- 3:47So now over in Germany, you spent.
- 3:50Now this is per John Scotone. John tells me it's like 5 grand
- 3:54to get your license. And when you get your license,
- 3:58it's like, Oh no, you don't ever get in the left lane unless
- 4:02you're ready to haul ass, you know?
- 4:04And then the tractor trailers are taught they run down the
- 4:07right lane, maybe the middle lane, maybe at times to pass
- 4:12each other. So the first thing I want
- 4:14everybody to know is that that little war that we all have over
- 4:18here, we're we're not going to let you go because, you know, I
- 4:22just don't feel like it because I'm better than you.
- 4:25I'm going to run in the left lane at 65 mile an hour.
- 4:29So the first thing I noticed is that there's all these little
- 4:34round stoplight looking things and they, they do have speed
- 4:41limits over there, 60 kilometers, 8120, like 120
- 4:47kilometers I believe is like almost 7580 mile an hour or
- 4:52something like that. So you get going and then it's
- 4:58it's constantly changing speed limits.
- 5:00I mean, you got your head's got to be on a swivel and then you
- 5:04come up on these round signs that are just pure white with,
- 5:07with a line right through the middle.
- 5:11And that means no speed limit. So you'll, you'll get the,
- 5:14you'll get the haul of mass, you'll run 125.
- 5:19It's easy in that Mercedes because see, all the other cars
- 5:23are just not now somebody said, is there any American cars over
- 5:27there? I say, well, I've seen like 1
- 5:28Ford, one of those Ford station wagons, those Audi station
- 5:33wagons and those Ford station wagons, they kind of look the
- 5:35same. They they're kind of a miniature
- 5:38station wagon, but that's the only American cars I saw over
- 5:43there was the Ford like mini station wagon.
- 5:46They go good, they got good power.
- 5:49So anyway, you're running along there and there's no speed limit
- 5:54and then boom, all of a sudden like 2 football fields it you
- 5:59got to go down to like, you know, there's speed limit.
- 6:02Then all of a sudden there's no speed limit.
- 6:04Then you go another foot, one football field.
- 6:06I mean, this small, it's like, and then all of a sudden you get
- 6:13way out of town. You probably got to get a good
- 6:1630 miles outside out of town. You got to get out and then it's
- 6:21and then you can go and I can run that Mercedes 125 mph
- 6:32nothing, just hauling total asses.
- 6:38And then I'm sitting and running along and I'm like, John, this
- 6:40is all it's got. And he's fooling around with the
- 6:43dashboard and all of a sudden I'm like, and I'm like, what'd
- 6:47you do? Well, so those rental cars, you
- 6:52know, they're, they got these rating on these tires and it's
- 6:57like, oh, you can only go 125 mile an hour with these rain
- 7:00tires or whatever tires and all weather tires.
- 7:05And so he, he took that limiter off and we got to 158 mile an
- 7:13hour. Now, let me tell you something I
- 7:15learned closing rate. I know all about closing rate,
- 7:19but I wasn't ready for this. I'm running 158 mile an hour and
- 7:22I'm looking about a mile ahead of me and I start letting off
- 7:25the gas. Well, you close in on somebody's
- 7:28student 125 and it's toeing elbows and I'm all over the
- 7:33break. And it took my heart away and I
- 7:35said, OK, I looked at John. I said, John, we done.
- 7:41So, you know, we got to Berlin, we turn around, we came back,
- 7:46you know, a couple days later and we learned a lot.
- 7:52So the couple things I want to debull for you is the Autobahn
- 7:57is not a free for all. It's a very regulated.
- 8:01And when you do get in the left lane and you haul ass, it's just
- 8:04to make time. And, and the other thing is this
- 8:08all the cars over there can't do that.
- 8:12The only cars I saw running with me was Mercedes, BMW and those,
- 8:19those Audis. So all right, remember now if
- 8:24you don't want to go stay out of the left lane, But I know you'll
- 8:27stay in it just because you, you had a bad day and you just, you
- 8:30just want to make people pay. Have a great, great Tuesday and
- 8:39I'll see you tonight at Volusia Speedway.
