- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there, South Richmond.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Mike White, what is up, my dude?
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: How you doing, man?
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: I'm feeling good.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: It is, what is it, Wednesday night?
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: Tuesday night are hump day.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: We are one day away from more college football.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm glad tomorrow upgrades Wednesday.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Tuesday, Wednesday, these weird gap days where I watch football literally five days a week between college and NFL.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Tuesday, Wednesday are these weird days where I catch up on my nerd shows.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Nothing else to do.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: There's no football on.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: So I feel weird.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: It's like, what do I do with my hands?
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: It's just like consume info, prepare for next week.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Uh seriously.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Um, what's new with you, man?
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: What's anything?
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: What's going on in your life in the last seven days?
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: Well, um, in classic 37-year-old mode, I injured my neck in a bounce house.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, was it worth it?
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: Um, well, I was bouncing with the children, having a good time, and Archie wanted to be held up high.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: And, you know, he's not a he's a toddler.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: He weighs probably like 27 pounds or something.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: He and I was trying to get him to touch the ceiling.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: So I was jumping as high as I could so he could touch the ceiling.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: And I really gave it my all.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: We both slammed into the top of the bounce house.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: And uh just a little, just a little neck tweak, but nothing that would have happened to um 20-something Mike, that's for sure.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: This one that what you did will hurt you for two weeks.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Then the 22-year mic would hurt you for two minutes.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: That's that's the difference.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Um, in classic 39-year-old uh Mike Waits uh stuff, I am in the process of growing new grass.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: I put new seed down on Friday, and literally, I'm not this is not even like a hyperbole.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: I walk out to my front yard every morning with a cup of coffee in my hand, and I get my my face like an inch off the dirt, like looking for the baby grass to germinate and pop.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Hadn't happened yet.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Haven't happened yet.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: We are in day five.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: This is my least favorite version of you.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: Grass growing growing grass growing way.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: This is where I am, just really excited.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna have nuclear green new baby grass here in like a day or so.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Better.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: I'm on tomorrow will be day six, and I've been watering my uh yard like crazy and sunlight and all the things.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: So anyway, grass growing.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Uh that's boring.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: What are you drinking?
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Um, so I'm drinking a special beer because it is the fall.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: It is called Howling Gourds Pumpkin Ale.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Ugh, what is that?
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: It is a six dollar for six pack at Trader Joe's.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: And it tastes like um it tastes like fall potpourri.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: It is not that good.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: Not very good.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: I love the idea of fall beers way more than I actually like fall beers.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Like I just I mean, I like it.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: I like a heavy stout, you know.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: I like a dark hollow, but not sure.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: Pumpkin beer is not for me.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if the word pumpkin's in the beer paper, I'm probably I can probably guarantee you I'm out.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: I'm not I'm not interested.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so here I am.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: I'm just choking it down.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: How about you?
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: I'm drinking another Hardywood lager, which I just loved my go-to.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: This time I got the goofy snub nose bottles.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Did you ever drink like red style stripe in college or any of those?
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know why, but I just love the novelty of these goofy bottles and this.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: I do too.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: I don't really know why.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: It just it makes the beer taste better, maybe.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: Is that is that possible?
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like the snub nose.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Um, Hardywood does a couple of those, and I always like the great return snub nose.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: So I'm in for it.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: I'm in for it too.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: That's actually why I that's actually why I picked this up instead of album, so they had the snub noses available.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Usually I get the cans, but these are um these bottles make it more fun to drink.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: So that's what I'm drinking.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I'm about to drink a couple of things.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Suckers for marketing.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: It's yeah, straight up.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Uh you if you if you have a gimmick for me that I'm like it, I'm gonna give you my money for it.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: So here we are.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: Um, let's talk about last week of college football.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Man, yeah, dive in.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: I had a lot of fun.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: It was uh it was it was a great week college football.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Um let's just start from the top.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Um, Georgia is a machine, they are the number one team in the country.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: They are gonna murder everybody on their way, probably.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't have anything else to say.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Another week, another, another just beatdown.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: Anything to add on that?
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: Um, although I think everyone got the the cart before the horse a little bit on South Carolina.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, I again it was Georgia, but they've looked really pedestrian all year up until even, you know, is Spencer Rattler, just not what everyone thought he would be.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: And um, yeah, Shane Beamer still got some work to do.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: That's certainly true, but I'm almost more impressed with what Oregon did to BYU to just reinforce that Oregon is not a bad team.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: And actually, Bonex in Outson is a tough place, a tough team to play, beat, and a tough place to play.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: They took care of business against a good BYU team.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Um, and that team got they looked like a high school JV squad against Georgia.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: So it's kind of like the three-week later transitive property that that I'm signing off Georgia on.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the transitive property, as we both know, never really works.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: But especially this early in the season, we don't have much to go on, and so everything is such a knee-jerk reaction.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: I've fallen victim um to it.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: Um, and here we are again.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Oregon looked good.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Oregon looked good.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, we forgot the the news.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Herm Edwards, uh head coach of Arizona State, fired uh after a tumultuous, I don't know, four or five seasons somewhere there.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Pretty ho-hum, pretty lackluster, didn't get a lot going.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, the main the main news about this one was interesting, fired on the field.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: The AD and the uh university president were standing in the end zone uh when he was walking the field and they fired him right there.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: Didn't even let him get into the locker room immediately in in the post-game.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: So that's it's pretty disrespectful, especially for a guy like Herm Edwards, been around the block for a long time.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: And again, we see another NFL guy flame out in college.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: I'll be honest with me.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: Five years ago, if I was Arizona State fan, I'm like, all right, Herm Edwards, absolutely.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, that guy's done a lot of great things at the next level, the NFL, you know, you would hope that kind of translates, but it just in the just never did in the Pac-12 South for him, unfortunately.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: You know, Jim Mora, you know, I thought he'd be a good fit at UCLA.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: Again, just nothing going, nothing happening in there.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Isn't he coaching UConn now?
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: I think he's the UConn.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: I think Jim Mora is the UConn head coach.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: I think which which maybe maybe that's the right job for him.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Um, but I but going back to Herm Edwards, I think where this is gonna be.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, it started with um it started with Nebraska last week, Scott Frost.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Uh who's getting fired next week?
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, when we do the show a week from now, I'm it's got I mean, Neil Brown, Brian Harson.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Um, there's a couple guys.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Parsons on the ropes, uh West Virginia coach, Neil Brown's certainly on his room.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: That's exactly what I was thinking.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean, this is a big one for him against Virginia Tech.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Here's a hot take.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: There's gonna be, I mean, usually the the I mean when the when the job starts, when the I would say, and then you can push back on me, about nine or ten weeks in the season, coaches start to get fired.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: And they kind of happens then.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I feel like this really early.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Like, I think where you and I are gonna be talking about are the news of the week another power five job, head coach fired that week.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it seems like the process has really been sped up um in a lot of ways.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: You know, the recruiting process, you know, the timeline has changed, uh, early.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: The portal has changed everything.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, signing days changed everything.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, for some of those really, really big time programs, um, it doesn't shock me as much.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: You know, if Auburn wanted to pull the trigger on Harson in a week or two, but for an Arizona state or you know, a West Virginia to do it this early in the season would be a bit it's a bit more surprising to me.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: So I mean I think we're gonna be seeing more and more of that this season.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: I think I think what's up with the reality is coaches are just like we got to get started on the next regime now.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: We gotta get some we gotta get those guys boost talking to boosters, talking to players, hitting the transfer portal.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, you're literally punting on the rest of the season.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so which I mean actually in in Arizona States and uh Nebraska's case, not a big deal because let's face it, you weren't punting on much to begin with anyway.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: So anyway, that's the about fired coaches.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk more about a lot about that later.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Um, I got I gotta I gotta eat some crow here.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Um, I think I was a little premature on my Tyler Van Dyke hype train.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Um, as one of the uh Patreon's subscriber pointed out to me, actually my brother specifically, Steven, pointed out to me.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Uh Tyler Van Dyke did not look good in that Miami.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: I was so excited for that game, and it just was a pretty boring football game.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Texas AM did it again with defense and a really boring offense.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: Um and and we both but there was a big part of me that thought AM would rebound, but based on how they played, it just didn't, I just didn't see it happening that way.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: I I thought Miami would win for sure.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: So I'm eating crow on that one.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: I'm definitely eating crow on the um uh the Washington uh Michigan State game.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: I'll give you credit for that one.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: So in my face, in my face.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: So uh yeah, I mean Miami obviously has the rest of the ACC schedule.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Everything they want to do is still ahead of them.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously, he still has time to rig up big numbers, but I just you know those those hurricane receivers could not get open.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Tyler Van Dyke couldn't find anybody.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: I kind of thought he was gonna race the occasion.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Um in Aggie Lands just didn't happen.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: It just didn't happen.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: So um maybe maybe pump the brakes a little on the Miami.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: That was my one of my early.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm pumping pumping the knee-jerk reaction break on AM, you know, they've still got their season ahead of them and a big one coming up against Arkansas to compete for against Bama for number two in the West, potentially, or your LSU Tigers for number two in the West.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, they've still got everything in front of them.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: This drum.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: But yeah, big ups to AM for bouncing back.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: That was that was a good one.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: We'll circle back to AM, Arkansas, when we get to next week's previews.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Uh AppState uh had game day this week.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Didn't they have game day this week?
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: I think they're for game day for App State Troy wild game.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: AppState was like a 12-13 point favorite, almost lost, won on a 55-yard Hail Mary uh Statue of Liberty play, tip drill situation.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Um one of the bets that's the first that's the first awesome Hail Mary of the year, I think, of like a game ending, which was just a phenomenal play.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: AppState stormed the field.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you saw it a bajillion times.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was awesome.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: It was awesome.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, kudos to App State.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: There's they seem to be like America's like I mean, week one sweetheart.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: They are the week one was at a hundred-point point bonanza against UNC, it was like 66 to 60.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Week two, they knocked off AM in AM.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Week three, uh, the Barn Burner, uh, and they barely beat Troy and the Hail Mary.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: And uh tech App State all of a sudden is like must-watch television.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know when that happened, but here we are.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Uh go nears that they're on the map.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, fun belt.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Fun belt.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Put it on your map.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Um, also, did you see the uh video of the Troy sorority girls filming themselves?
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: So there was a sorority at Troy University, and they were taking selfie video of them all watching that Hail Mary play, and they were literally filming it as thrown up, and they went up, they're expecting it to get knocked down, expecting to have to have a video of them all celebrating the big upset over at obviously they did not.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: And the video of them thinking they won and then realizing they lost is stunning.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: It is just oh oh, it's just it's it's heartache in real life.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: I've been there a million times.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: It's all of us, it's good video.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: And the other viral video I saw was did you see the the the quarterback who threw it?
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: He went up to the stands and was standing there on the fence helping rush the feet, helping them, yeah, helping people get on the field.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: So that's just that's just good hospitality.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: It's just a nice thing to do.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: You know, good host, good host to the football field.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Come on down, check out where I just played the last 60 minutes of my life.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's keep it rolling.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Uh Florida sucks, which I know I know you're excited about.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Uh should have lost to South Florida by all means.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: South, yeah.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: That interception, toe toe on the end line basically would have put the game away.
- 12:45SPEAKER_03: It was a instead of a pick six for uh Southern Florida, it was a it was a touchback.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: Um kept the game within reach within a couple minutes left.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: Florida pulled it out.
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: Um, but that's fine with me because they're still ranked and they still look bad.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: So it's just classic college football.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, we were all, I mean, Florida looks so good at home week one against Utah, and Utah has bounced back.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: That that win to Florida's credit is looking better and better.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Um, but Florida has looked worse and worse every week thereafter.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: Um, they got handled by Kentucky, probably should have lost to South Florida, and now they got a monster in Nayland in Knoxville, which I know you're excited about.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Come three days out.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, um, yes, yes, yes.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: But go ahead.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: I have to interrupt just because this is early season college football.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: That's what happens.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, all you have to do, you have to survive, you have to win, and teams are still figuring out their identities on offense, they're still figuring out who their playmakers are, who they can trust in key moments.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: And there's been a, you know, this happens every year.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: A team is maybe overrated, but they survive a little bit until they figure it out and then they coast.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: Or, you know, a Clemson looks shaky early, and then they, you know, beat teams down late.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: It it's just it each team is so different week to week, especially early in the season.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: And it's all about the matchups.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: It's true.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: This was Utah's story last year when they when they swapped their quarterback out for Cam Rising, they went on that tear.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: They were a bad team the first month of the season.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Like I think you're totally right.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Like every month, like we might see a new version of Florida a month from now, which neither of us are excited about because I know you have the gators this week.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: LSU has gators in a couple weeks.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: Well, look how look at the leaps and bounds LSU grew over the last couple weeks.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've got opinions about that.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: You better believe that.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're it's we are college football is the it's crazy that we're a third and through the season, and the teams are rapidly developing and changing.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: I will say a crazy stat line, that's hilarious stat line, um, especially considering how bullish we were on Anthony Richardson.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Just so far this season, he has thrown zero touchdown passes and has three tackles.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Three tackles.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, four four interceptions, four interceptions.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, four interceptions, three tackles, obviously tackling the guy who threw picked off his pass, zero touchdown passes, which is just like those are linebacker stats.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Somebody those are linebacker stats.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he he's uh he's a missile for the ball.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that that's the that's the defensive uh player of the month for Florida, right?
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: He's a ball hawk.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Four picks and three tackles, but anywho.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Uh so uh well, we'll talk about Florida, Tennessee.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Let's circle back to that uh a little bit.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Uh I want to give I was wrong about Bonex.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Bonex came out guns blazing and put it on BYU and a big performance in Outson.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Outson's is again actually a Hornet's nest.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: It's a Hornet's nest really, really, really far away, way up in the Pacific Northwest.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Did you see the chant that the uh student section was chanting that they apologize or well the university then apologized for later?
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: It was something I know.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: What is it?
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: I think I saw like a Twitter on what did it say for the Mormons was the chant.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: Not a good luck.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: I can see that.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: I've been to one football game against BYU.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I visited my brother Steven at uh University of Michigan.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is like four years ago, and Jim Harbaugh was hosting.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: They won like 27 to nothing.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: I was in um when my brother and I got last-minute tickets, I was in the BYU section and I was there with a uh bottle of Jack and Coke, and you know, I'd had a couple bunch of drinks, and I was excited, ready to watch college football.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: And I was expecting to like talk some trash or like do something, and like literally they were like, Oh, they're 27-0.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, that's that's not too bad.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Unfortunate.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Oh man, I'm really sorry.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's good.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: It was nice to meet you.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: We'll see you guys next time.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I was like, Yeah, say what you will.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: They're just the nicest people.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: They're nice people, really nice people.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't expect that out of Outson either.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, no, it's that's true.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Me neither.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Me neither.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Uh also I'll give Bo Nick's a little life.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Dan Lenning, uh, big, big win.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, Jared Hall is an awesome quarterback BYU.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: I know BYU has some has some receivers out for that game, I believe, but they're still very, very good.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: It's just classic Jekyll and Hyde Bo Nicks, though.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, yes, yes.
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: He could easily, you know, throw three or four picks next week and look terrible.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: What we were talking about earlier was like college football in a whole like month to month.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Uh Bo Nicks's career has been that on steroids.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Like he looks different the next play.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: He looks different in the next moment.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: He'll do something so genius, so incredible, so Johnny Manzel.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: And the next thing he's just throwing interception off of defensive lineman's face.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: You can understand why.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: So uh big Bo Nick's bounce back.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Good for him.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk about uh Notre Dame quit really quick, getting their first win uh under Marcus Freeman.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Good for him.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Uh beating Cal, which is actually was a pretty solid defensive team.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: They could have lost that game.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, kudos to Notre Dame pulling away in the fourth.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Uh much, much, much needed win.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they've got an interesting one coming up against UNC.
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: We're not gonna cover it, we're not gonna talk about it, but just I think that's gonna be a good one.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: I really I like UNC in that one.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think the spread's about even as well.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: So we'll be, we'll be, we'll keep our eyes on that.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Um UW, Michigan State.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Man, was I right about that?
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you, I when I when I was right about Michigan State, I didn't think it was gonna be because UW was so powerful on offense.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Michael Penix Jr., the Indiana transfer is absolutely lighting up the scoreboard.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: I think it's the first passer in UW history to throw for over 300 yards in the first three starts or something wild like that.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're way ahead of schedule right now.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Um, and so kudos to UW.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh the the Jimmy Lake regime, the previous coach, was just not wasn't really doing much for UW.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: I expected, I think everybody expected them to be 12, 18 months, 24 months out.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: But the here they are three or four weeks in the season, and they're they're ready to go.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: So good for them.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're they're definitely a dark horse uh in the conference.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: I still think Michigan State's a solid team that they're gonna rebound, they're still gonna have a good year.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: Um, but some question marks coming out of that game for sure.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: UW's 3-0, good for them uh on the quick start.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of there's a lot of three and oh teams that we could talk about.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: 14 or 15.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, and super quick, and I made it I made a point to another one of our Patreon members, big college basketball fan.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: So far this season, three and oh Duke, Kansas, UNC, Syracuse, Kentucky, Kentucky, uh, Indiana.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: College basketball lives in October.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: That's unbelievable that all of these perennial basketball superpowers are three and oh.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know if any of them are any good except for maybe Kentucky, but I yeah, I just gotta say, I mean, this is this is just it's funny.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: It's funny.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: It's funny.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of basketball schools saying, you know what, we can we can play a little football.
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: A lot of teams feasted on cupcakes early.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: But yeah, it's it's it's fun to see.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: It's fun to see.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: And we're gonna see we're this is one you know, one of the themes for me this coming week is really being about prove it.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: There are so many teams that are 3-0 that we like think are good, but now they're playing another team as 3 0, or at least 2-1, or a power, another power five in conference game.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is like a prove it week.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: This is like we're gonna learn a lot this coming week.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, but before we do that, uh what else?
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, B.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: John Robinson, absolute stud.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, carry them against UTSA.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Good for good for Texas and Hudson Card is serviceable.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Anything you want to say about that?
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: No, they they did what we expected them to do.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, I want to uh tip a hat to Boomer Sooner, uh, Oklahoma.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm surprised me about Oklahoma is how solid they are on defense, which is can you eat crow on that one too?
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: I I'll go ahead and take that.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: I'll go ahead and take that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: What I that was that's the one where I said Nebraska was live in that game.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: You just kept saying you watch, you turn it on, you flip it on, it's gonna be a and then you're like, I'm tuned in, I'm here for it after they scored one touchdown, and then that was like it.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so Nebraska went up 7-0, and they got like a three and out turnover, and it was like, oh my god.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: And then they gave up like 40 straight points, and they ended up losing like 49 to 14 in a big way.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: And I'll tell you, it's like what surprised me the most about Oklahoma was not Dylan Gabriel, the the Central Florida transfer Oklahoma quarterback, it's how good they are on defense.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: I know Brent Venables is the defensive guy coming from uh Clemson, led all those great defensive units.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: I just haven't seen Oklahoma play defense since like 2001.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Like I don't remember the last time Oklahoma made tackles in the open field and was just a solid unit overall, frankly.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we'll see.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, again, uh it was Nebraska and they're it was Nebraska.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: It was Nebraska, but they've got playmakers on offense.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: This to give it, I mean they're they are hemorrhaging everywhere, but they've got they've got off.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: I expected them to do better than they have.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Um, I I kind of think I I mean I was obviously super bullish on Baylor.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: I'm starting to think Oklahoma actually might be the force in the Big 12.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I kind of agree.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: As you know, in three weeks from now, we could be having a wildly different conversation.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Um, what else can I say about uh Liberty almost knocked off your favorite second favorite team and my second favorite team, the Wake Forest Damon Dickens.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: Holy smokes, just knock the ball down.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: What is that?
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: So uh Wake For uh the the game was 37-30.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Liberty had the ball, they were driving to the end.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Uh Liberty quarterback goes a touchdown pass.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Wake Forest receiver on defensive back has a chance to on the ball, has a hand on it, goes for the interception, and the the Liberty receiver took it out of his hand to get the cut.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: He had a clear opportunity to just knock it down.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Just knock it down.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: Didn't do it.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: 36-37.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Hugh Freeze uh puts his uh puts his cojones on the table, and I'll give him credit for that.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Runs the Philly special two-point conversion, and of course it flops horribly.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Wake Forest escapes with the win.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Um, so wildly entertained final 90 seconds.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Uh Wake.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: When do you get the win?
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Wake survives.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, and there were a lot of games like that in the top 25 and and you know, the power five schools that you would have expected to kind of roll a little bit.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: Arkansas barely, barely survived by the skin of their teeth to Missouri State.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: Hey, man.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: And that's a whole different ballgame of an upset.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's not even on the level of liberty.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: That's not even close to Appalachian State.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: That would have been I don't even know.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, now get now now.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: I think it's worth noting that Bob Petrino was the coach of Missouri State, who was a former coach of Arkansas.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: So obviously he had he had, I mean, that was he was he was never more motivated to win a football game than he probably was that one, but uh Arkansas showed some real kinks in the armor.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: And Chinx and they get and they got they've got they've got a lot of things to figure out right now because they've got a monster showdown against AM and Jerry World, which we're gonna talk about in a minute.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Actually, I'm I'm actually done.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Do you wanna do you wanna talk about the upcoming week or anything or anything else?
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, let's just we let's let's just keep rolling.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: Good stuff.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: Uh cool.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna talk about uh some games that we want to talk about this upcoming week.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Obviously, college football is back uh tomorrow.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: By the time you're hearing this, it'll probably be Thursday morning.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Uh drink it, enjoy your coffee.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, first game, which we talk about first.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about um we'll stop let's talk about Arkansas AM.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Arkansas uh is playing Texas AM, number 10 against number 23.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: Uh that game is at 7 o'clock on ESPN.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: It is in Jerry World ATT Stadium, which is a neutral site game, which uh the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: This is a weird game.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Before this last year, which AM won, uh I'm sorry, Arkansas won, AM had won nine straight.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Um, this is a rivalry that goes way back to like the big South or the Big Eight, whatever they call those conferences from way back when.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: Um uh Jerry, uh Jerry Jones over the Cowboys, a big Arkansas uh backer.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Arkansas is currently a one and a half point dog.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Um I have no idea what's gonna happen in this game.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: I've well go ahead and get your thoughts.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: I think it's gonna be a really fun one.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: Last year was I think 10 10 to 20.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: Does that sound right to you?
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: 10 20 to 10, Arkansas wins.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: I think this is gonna be kind of the complete flip of that.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: I think we're gonna see a lot of points.
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: I think that um AM is gonna finally flash some offense.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: And uh Arkansas's shown some really good offense.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: Their run game is really dynamic with uh KJ Jefferson, and I think it's gonna be just a lot of back and forth, a lot of um, a lot of those splash plays, you know, turnovers, pick sixes, you know, something wonky on special teams.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: That's that's my gut feeling on it.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know what to think because Arkansas is like a pretty good offensive team.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: We know that about them, but they're going into the T the quality of AM, which is their defense.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Um, so this is I mean it's a good offense against a good defense.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: And on the other side, AM's offense isn't scaring anybody, and Arkansas's defense really isn't either.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: So I don't know, so like are the where are the points coming from?
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: I'm actually going the other way.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, I could obviously be wrong here.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: I've been a week from now, we can you can dunk on me for it.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: I think this game's gonna go way under.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be an ugly defensive battle.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: Um, KJ Jefferson is not that great at stretching the field.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: AM's defense is gonna, I mean, which is what he I mean, he's really good at running the ball, and I just I don't know that his skills match up well against this AM team.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: And on the other side, um, Max Johnson, former LSU quarterback, he's just not that good.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Um, I recognize Arkansas's secondary is uh having some troubles, we'll put it that way.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Um, but I don't have I don't have much faith in him beating Arkansas, even though they're not as good as they are.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: So I don't know where the points are gonna come from in this game.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: So um I could go either way on hit wins or losses, but I would take the under.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: It's I see it right now at 49 and a half.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: I think it's I think you're looking at a low-scoring affair.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: A field goal game.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: A field goal, I don't know.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking 2017 type game.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: No, I mean your logic is sound.
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: Um, I just think this is just one of those games where you throw a lot of that stuff out the window.
- 25:48SPEAKER_03: I know that that's kind of a cliche, obviously, but um it's I just I think I think it's gonna be a crazy one.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be one of those bonkers games where um it's maybe a little tight early and things kind of start unraveling.
- 26:02SPEAKER_03: And then yeah, I mean, you know how those games go when by the end of it there's just no defense, right?
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Um, regardless of the statistics heading into the game.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: Um, anyway, it doesn't matter.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: That's the the feeling I get, but I think it's a close game.
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: It could it could really be a toss-up either way.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: I lean Arkansas a little bit here.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: I don't hate that.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: No, be because given for these two programs, this is a massive game.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: This is one of the rivalries it's gonna mean a lot.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: And the fact that it's in Jerry World, I do think you're right in that respect.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: That they are gonna throw like the trick plays are coming out, the wrinkles are gonna come out, any new packages.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Like, there's really you know, this game means so much to these two fan, these two fan bases, it's almost like the spread's irrelevant.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: So, you know, you you we could see that.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: So uh I don't know.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: We'll see.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Be fun to watch regardless.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Uh let's keep it moving.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: The next one we have, I think is that was that Clemson and Wake Force.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: Clemson Wake, yeah.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: Clemson Wake, probably the headline game um of the ACC of ACC season, probably so far.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, that game is at noon on ABC.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Number five, Clemson, number 21, Wake is being played at Truest Field, which is Wake Force's home home field.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, the line was uh uh plus it opened up at a plus nine and is move uh for Wake's moved to plus seven.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: So there's money.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Vegas is telling you Wake.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Um, I actually got it at a plus eight and a half a couple days ago, which I'm feeling pretty good about.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: Um well you open it up.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: What do you think?
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: I think this game is you know, if I were to boil it down, it's Wake's offense versus Clemson's D.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, the strength of each each each program.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: Um, but I do think that um obviously Clemson has the talent on offense, they just haven't shown it yet.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: And Wake hasn't really shown they can stop anybody yet.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: So I'm expecting a really high scoring affair again in this one.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: It's it's gonna be some back and forth.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: The over-under is 56 and a half.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: I actually really like the over.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll take Clemson to to win.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: I don't know about covering, but um, I think it's gonna be an exciting game.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: I think there's gonna be a lot of points on the board.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: Um, I like Clemson's run game, I like Wake's pass game.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: So it's uh it should be a fun one.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: I like Clemson um and I like the over if we're gonna Clemson has one of the bets.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Clemson has one of the best defenses in the country, and they're they're gonna have that.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Although it didn't look super great last week against.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: I think it was La Tech was.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, Wake Force is gonna challenge this team tremendously.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh Sam Hartman, I would argue, is probably the best quarterback in the ACC at this point.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Um, probably the probably the number one NFL prospect.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: And those those weapons are legit, those wideouts are good, they're gonna have some things for them.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Um, I I like Wake to challenge them a lot.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: I like Wake to score.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: I think Wake is gonna do what most teams haven't been able to do, which is score consistently on this Clemson defense.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: Um on the flip side though, on the flip side, I'm not super I'm not super impressed with Clemson's offense.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: Still, it has made some marginal improvements.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Why where are Clemson's receivers?
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: How come they have nobody who can just who can make get separation or make or get you know that's a weird one for me too, because you can't put it on the quarterback's shoulders.
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, everyone screams for Kate Klibnik, everyone's you know, questioning DJ Uangalale.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: Um, but he needs they need some help.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: I I do think they'll lean on the run game.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, they need some they need some playmakers to emerge on the outside.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: I think Wake, going back to what you were saying earlier, I think where you'll see the biggest difference is in the trenches, unless they can get Hartman, you know, unless they can game plan and scheme around that pass rush that Clemson has.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Um, Hartman's gonna be eating some turf.
- 29:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's gonna be a problem.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Clemson's defensive line, probably the best in the country.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be breathing down his neck a lot.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: Because they don't have much of a run game.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: So they're gonna have to manufacture a run game through screens and and you know, quick outs and things like that.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: I'm expecting a lot of slants, a lot of bubble screens, a lot of lot of a lot of short stuff, uh uh outlet stuff.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: I think I mean I think you're probably right.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, I think Will Shipley's a solid back for Clemson.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: I think he's I think he's a decent runner, but I don't think he's he you also can't really put it on him.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: DJU, for this team to to get serious about the playoff, he's gotta get better, or it's gotta be Cade time.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: And this might maybe this is the week.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, maybe this is the change moment.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: And I could see it going either way.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: If if DJU comes out and he guns guns blazing and he lights up Clemson, he lights him up, they win by 28-30, it's probably his job for the season.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: And they're probably gonna go with him for that.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: If he loses this game, I mean those Cade, the the Cade Klemnik uh administration, I mean they're gonna be pound down that door.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be there's their those fans are gonna be itching.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Uh Clemson's is not planning on losing this game.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: Um, and for them, they're they're you know, their expectations, they're looking towards the college football playoffs.
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: So, you know, winning a game by a touchdown, winning here or there, winning game by game, you know, they're already saying like this isn't gonna be good enough against Alabama, this isn't gonna be good enough against Georgia.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: So that's where their eyes are.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: That's where the decision making, um, that's what's driving the decision making there.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: So that's something to keep in mind.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Uh I like Clemson to win.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: I think I agree with you, but I think I think it's gonna be close.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna think it's gonna be seven points, six points, maybe even three if things get a little weird.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Wake covers, but I mean, I think Clemson's gonna win.
- 30:56SPEAKER_03: So let's uh yeah, I think that's gonna be a good one.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: Um that'll be I I'm excited to see if Wake.
- 31:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, this is kind of their coming out party, essentially, you know, like Clemson is the standard still in the ACC.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: And so this, you know, this is this is a huge one for for Wake.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: Uh I want to talk.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna we're we just want to quickly talk about uh some other games that we're not really gonna pay that much attention to, but are are kind of fun.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Uh Duke, Kansas, one of those two those two basketball schools dominating on the gridiron.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Uh Kansas past four road games, three and one.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Kansas, the previous 66 road games, two and sixty four.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Holy smokes.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: Uh Lance Leopold is doing a fabulous fabulous job.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: Uh anything on Duke, Kansas, you want to talk about?
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: No, I mean, it's awesome to see them both doing well early.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, those traditionally, historically, by the numbers, this isn't any of my bias talking.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Two of the worst Power Five college football programs in the history.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, not superbully at all.
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and and Kansas, I mean, Kansas looks darn right good.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: I mean they are.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: They are eight and a half point favorites.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: Holy smokes! It's crazy.
- 32:08SPEAKER_03: And I, you know, I'm I've always been a huge David Cutcliffe fan going back to his time as an OC at uh Tennessee.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: And he did some good things at Duke.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: Um, he had them competing, he had them in bowl games, um, but they've never pushed it to that next level.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: Um, and so yeah, this is this is a this will be a fun one to see kind of which program emerges um on the other side.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Uh other other another game, which is uh you could you could almost dub the dumpster fire bowl.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, we've got um who was it just a second ago?
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: UCLA, who cannot get any fans, almost lost to South Alabama, and stormed the field for that one, playing at Colorado, which is actually might be the worst team.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Let me read you this quote from the head coach uh Carl Dorrell on Colorado, who's I think I started 0-3.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Quote, I feel good about our attitude about playing the game.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: We're just not very good at really playing it effectively and proficiently.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: That's like our guys are our guys are trying hard.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: They're happy about trying.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: We we are really having a fun time out there.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: We are not very good at what we do, but we really are cheaper.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: A lot of a lot of not a lot of frowny faces, so that's good.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: That is good.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: 100% will not watch that game, but that's just that's that's that is one of the quotables of the year for sure.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Uh Maryland and two fan bases who could care less.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, could not care less of all of the college football fan bases have to be right now UCLA.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and in uh yeah, Colorado and uh UCLA.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Uh Maryland at uh Michigan, Michigan has probably the worst non 3-0, looked very, very good 3-0 games, went over 50 points all three games against really the worst non-conference schedule, probably in the country.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: Uh hosting Maryland, 17 points.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Maryland is live.
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: This is gonna be one of those.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: Their offense is fun.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: They're very offense.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: They're run there.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: If they're those of you uh who remember the name Tua Tongailoa, uh his younger brother, Talia Tongavailoa is the quarterback.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Talia.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Talia is um, and he's good.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: He's not his brother, but he's still really damn good.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: And they're and they're scoring a bunch of points.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Um, this is one this is a prove-it game.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Michigan is 3-0.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: Are they actually are they actually 3-0 good?
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Are they just benefit, you know, are there's beneficiaries of their schedule?
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Um, so I'm interested to see.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: I uh if Michigan's gonna challenge Ohio State, they need to win this game by 24.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: I don't know if they're gonna, I just don't know if they're going to.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we don't know anything about Michigan right now.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: In in in true Michigan fashion.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: Um, we'll see.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: This um this will be a little bit of a test, but we we still won't know much coming out of it.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: Uh next game I want to talk super quickly about Oklahoma hosting Kansas State.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Kansas State lost to uh somebody terrible last night.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: I think it was two lane.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: Oof, ouchies.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, dude's falling so awesome back.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma's defense is flying.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, similar situation.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: Is Oklahoma going to continue to play?
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Does has Brent Venables what I what I'm watching for in this game is if Brent Venables has consistently put his hands on this program where their product, their quality of play is consistently good.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Like are they hiccup free?
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: And Kansas State's dangerous offensive squad.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: So that's all I just want to see Oklahoma continue to be dominant.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: Obviously, they're they have Uber amounts of talent over Kansas State, but Kansas State has a good offense, like you were saying.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, they put up 34 week one, they put up 40 on Missouri week two, then they you know had an oopsie against Tulane.
- 35:31SPEAKER_03: Um, but they're capable.
- 35:32SPEAKER_03: Um so it should be a good test, at least on the defensive side for Oklahoma.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: And that's what I'm looking for.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm watching in that game.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Uh USC uh at Oregon State.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Uh Oregon State is a tough place to play, and Oregon State is also, I believe, 3-0 looking good.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Uh that game's 9 30 up there.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: Uh for me, it's um USC is the is the best offensive of the country that you're not watching because they play all of their games against bad teams and again at 10 o'clock at night.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: But Jordan Addison, the Plitnikov winner, Caleb Williams, they are just uh Mario Williams.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: Um they're they're lighting everybody, they're lighting everybody up.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: Uh only a six and a half point spread.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: So obviously Vegas is giving Oregon State some love.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Um we'll see, it's a tough, it's a tough road game.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: It's all I was surprised to look down and see this one at six and a half for USC.
- 36:19SPEAKER_03: Uh just because I mean the Beavers have been flying under everybody's radar.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: USC comes in.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, as soon as as soon as they made the hire, they were in a top 10 program, let alone got all these uh transfer guys super so yeah.
- 36:35SPEAKER_03: It you know, they're almost riding on reputation right now.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: So it'll be fun to see them actually play a meaningful football game.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: And that's what we're getting into.
- 36:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're getting into that time when when it's like, okay, now we actually have to go play.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: It's it's you know, put the cupcakes aside.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: Let's let's see where we're made of.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: And we got to do it every week.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's pretty much the same storyline for the for the last three games we just talked about.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: Michigan, Maryland, Oklahoma K-State, USC, Oregon State.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: These are all the good, these are USC, Oklahoma, and Michigan are all in the top like seven, I think.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: They're all they're all supposed to be top eight programs.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Are they?
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: One of them is not.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: We're probably gonna find out this week.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: So I'm looking for those three teams to just try and help me start to figure out, get some clarity on who's good and who's just reputation and non beating up non-conference good.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and the overunder on this on this game 70.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's gonna be some points.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: That's good that's gonna be a track meeting.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: And we talked about last week, you know, USC's defense, um, and you know, them being a little bit light in the trenches.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: Um, they've they've they've recruited skill players, they've got the skill players in the transfer uh portal.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: It'll be interesting to see when they go up against kind of a veteran squad who who has some beef in the trenches, how they hold up.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: And so yeah, that's something to watch.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Uh, last game before we're talking before we get in the homers, uh, James Madison Dukes on ESPN Plus at 3 30 at App State.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: Uh it's interesting because App State, as I we talked about earlier, might be America's favorite team, and JMU 2-0 JMU might be the best football team in Virginia.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: In fact, if they beat App State this week, I'm gonna go ahead and say it.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: They're the best team in Virginia.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: You you might be right.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: You might be right.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, AppSt is a seven-point favorite.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Uh JMU has played terrible competition to date, beaten the brakes off everybody.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: So we don't really know what what the JMU does the first year from the FCS to FBS now in the Sunbelt, but I just I, you know, as a Virginian, I gotta keep an eye on them because all of a sudden, if they beat, if they beat App State in Boone, all of a sudden it's gonna be something.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, do we start adding JMU to Homer time?
- 38:43SPEAKER_03: We might.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: We but we got JMU listeners out there.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: ODU?
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: Do we need to add sprinkle in some ODU action too?
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: Hey, Duke Dogs, get in our mentions.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Get us get us on Facebook Instagram.
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, get up in these DMs.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: If we if you if you if you if we if we got Dukes out there that want to hear more about uh Duke Dog football, you'd let us know, and maybe we'll we'll get in the we'll get in the Homer time because obviously Harrisonburg is only two hours from here.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: It's closer than Blacksburg.
- 39:03SPEAKER_03: So your old stopping grounds.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: That's right, old stopping ground.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: Uh okay, cool.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about some homers because we got some good homer games this week, actually.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: Actually, three of the four teams are good.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: Um let's get um let's get mine out of the way first.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Um LSU uh last week, Mississippi State, uh big win.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: It was awesome.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: Uh frankly, we were three point dollars for that game.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: I'm really happy with the way LSU took about uh just a big win.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: The first it's tough to win SEC games in this league.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: And you know, we changed our offensive line again.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: I got guys in place we wanted to play.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: Um, we have two true freshmen starting at tackles, Emery Jones and Will Campbell.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: Very exciting for our future.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Um, and Harold Parkins, the five-star uh number one outside linebacker, recruiting the country, who we got made a big impact.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: He had a sack, he had six tackles, and he was flying to the ball.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: Um, we are watching LSU get better before our eyes, and it's fun to watch.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: Now, obviously, that could all come crashing down in two weeks at Auburn, but right now stock is on the way up.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: Any any thoughts on LSU Mississippi State?
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, I mean, this one surprised me, and um this is exactly what we were talking about.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean sort of a jackal.
- 40:11SPEAKER_03: I'm picking who I think is gonna win the game.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, just because the secondary played so well.
- 40:17SPEAKER_03: Um it's also it's it's also I mean, it's such a good feeling when you're rebuilding and you beat a school that has, you know, an established coach, an established culture, an established um style of play.
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: You know, Mike Leach does what Mike Leach does, and that can cause problems, uh, especially for you know a team still figuring out their identity in on defense and in the secondary.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, and they just locked it down, especially in the second half.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: They uh they they put the brakes on, didn't look back.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: Jaden Daniels, uh LSU's quarterback, played really well.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: I think they found something um with him, especially in the second half.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: So uh whether or not you know this is a little bit of fool's gold, it doesn't matter.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: It's it's a win, it's against you know a good Mississippi State team.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: Mississippi State is not bad.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: They probably should have been ranked in this game.
- 41:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and so yeah, huge win.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, congrats to Brian Kelly and uh and your Tigers.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, thank you.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: Appreciate that.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: And obviously, I I mean I take credit for that win because I was obviously there.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: I did a lot to contribute to the W effort.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: I give you credit for it.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: I appreciate that.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: No, Michigan, I agree with you.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State is a good team, literally loaded with seniors, and the it's the fourth or fifth year.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: Um uh Will Rogers.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: Will Rogers, thank you.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: Uh is a good quarterback.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: Um, and our secondary just played really, really well.
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: Defense made a lot of really good adjustments, especially being short on the D D line.
- 41:36SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, got some pressure.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: Really happy, really happy with that.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, I would like to see the running game get better.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: We we we are running game Jaden Daniels is our running game, unfortunately, so that's gotta change.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: Um, but let's let's move on.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: Uh LSU is playing uh the New Mexico Lobos, uh, who are two and one.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, this game is uh uh um at 7:30 Eastern.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: LSU is a 32-point favorite.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: It's on the ESPN plus network.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: You gotta really try to watch this game.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: In fact, I'm probably not even gonna watch it.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: I'll probably get it on demand later.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: Um, it's gonna be um not a fun watch, but that's what LSU is doing.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: So I'm you know, oh LSU is we are we are look looking ahead to Auburn in a week.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Another win.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, another win.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and Auburn's looking, they might they might have a different head coach by then.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: So that could be an easier matchup.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: So they could.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: They could.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: So that's LSU.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Let's move on from them.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: The week, but on the other side, you monster game.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: This actually might be the this is not just a big game for you and me, obviously.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: Um, especially might be the the game of the week.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: I would actually prefer this.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: I would take this over Arkansas AM or Clemson uh Wake Forest, Florida Gators, number 20.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: Uh coming to the number 11 Volunteers.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: This game is at 3:30 on CBS.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: Um, Tennessee is a what is it?
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: Tennessee is a 10 and a half point favorite, although they opened it like a six and a half.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: It's Vegas moved.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: Vegas loves the Vols, which is crazy because it's worth mentioning that the Gators have had the Vols number for a long time, winning 16 of 17.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: The one game they they lost, you and I were there.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: We watched Josh Dobbs, um, and the Volunteers beat that Gator team that year.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: So that was very, very, very awesome.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: Um, so I know you have opinions, I know you have takes.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, like the floor is yours, Your Honor.
- 43:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: This, I don't know how I've even made it this far into the week.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: All I can think about is this damn football game.
- 43:32SPEAKER_03: I am not even kidding.
- 43:34SPEAKER_03: There's not enough content about this game for me to consume.
- 43:38SPEAKER_03: Um that being said, if I was not such a diehard Tennessee fan who has taken these lumps over the past several years, um I would be so all in on the balls to win this game handily.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: There is again, on paper, everything happens differently on the field.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: There's nothing on paper that says Florida has a shot to win this game.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: Tennessee's got more talent, they've got a better offense, they've got a better defense, they've got a better run game, a better I mean, across the board.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: Home field stadium's gonna be rocking.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: Nealand is going to be absolutely insane.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: Maybe one of the best college football environments this year.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: Um, and Anthony Richardson has just looked bad.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: And I think he's a little banged up.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: Um we are too.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: Cedric Tillman is doubtful.
- 44:33SPEAKER_03: He might not play.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: The running back room had two guys go out.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: Um and the this They're they're good.
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: Um they're but everyone's kind of banged up.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: Um they're kind of day-to-day.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: But um yeah, I just don't see this going well for the Gators.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: The only thing that holds me back is that this has happened so many times in the previous years where we've had better teams, we should have won games and we haven't, but um they're gonna have to rely on their run game.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: Um they're gonna have to win the in the trenches.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: And even even Southern Florida last week put up huge numbers running against them.
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: They just they just look a little disoriented and they don't have the talent that they usually do.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: No.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: Billy Napier's in year one of Florida, he's repairing.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: So the two things that they kind of keep me up.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm a I've I've become a Vol fan by association just by going to so many games with you.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: What what what what keeps me up night about this game is Anthony Richardson the possibility of having an out-of-body experience.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: Um, kind of like he's capable.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: He's capable, he is capable of doing that.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, will he in Knoxville?
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: First road game.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean yeah, but I but he's capable.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: He is certainly capable.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, give given how how given what he can do with his legs and his arms when he's on, is it's hard, it's tough to beat.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Um, another thing is Cedric Tillman.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, it really that seems like Hooker Tillman was one of the best connections, although it seems like the Vols have other playmakers on out wide that can step up, but it's it's gonna hurt not having him for sure.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you never want your your you know NFL wide number one wide out who got 18 targets uh against Pitt to go down.
- 46:12SPEAKER_03: Um, but there are answers there, and I think they start in the run game.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: Um, and that's where it'll that's where it'll all start.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: And if they get the run game going like all of the teams have done against Florida thus far, um they're gonna be just fine.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: I bet the I bet Tennessee to cover eight and a half, and now it's moved to ten and a half.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: So I feel like a genius.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I don't I don't know if I like Tennessee at 10 and a half.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Um, I think this game will be probably a possession or two.
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: I don't see a blowout.
- 46:39SPEAKER_03: Um, even though I think if Tennessee gets rolling early, it could really get away.
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: If it's if if something if something happens, if there's an early turnover and Tennessee's offense gets off to a little bit of a slow start, you know, the crowd gets a little nervous, you know, because of those um 16 previous years of built-up frustration.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: Um, it could be a game in the half.
- 47:02SPEAKER_03: It's all about the first quarter to me in this game.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: Interesting.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, so don't do not sleep on this one.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: Watch this game from kick.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: And this is game, this is game day, right?
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: Game day's there.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: CBS there, CBS game of the week.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: CBS game of the week.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: It's Checker Nealand.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: Everybody knows this is this is this is the one.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: This is the one.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: That's that obviously it is the game that I'm far and away the most interested in this weekend.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm pulling for you, man.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: I want I want the balls to get, I think they're gonna get it done.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: I'm pulling it.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: I've been apprehensive and I'm slowly, slowly leaning towards we're gonna we're gonna roll.
- 47:37SPEAKER_03: So I hope you're that's my nature though.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: So I was gonna say, isn't that true at every Saturday?
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: Isn't that true that is true?
- 47:44SPEAKER_03: That's not so much true, though.
- 47:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, I get more optimistic as we get into any game, but this one, I just I don't I don't know.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, I said it, I said it against Pitt too.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: I I said the same thing almost, you know.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: My I'm scared of being let down, but this is just a good team.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: I trust this team more, I trust what Hypel's doing.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, I trust Hooker, he knows what he's doing.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, probably the second best quarterback in the FCC.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's I mean, or top three for sure.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's he is also a Hen Hooker.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: You know, we're talking about Anthony Richardson because he carried the Florida team that Utah, so he kind of had his Heisman moment, although the Heisman seems like a long seems like a prayer at this point.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Hen Hooker is no slouch, and he is a very good quarterback as well.
- 48:24SPEAKER_03: Um since taking over as a starter, he has something like I want to say like 45 touchdowns and two interceptions.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 48:32SPEAKER_03: I might I might be off one or two touchdowns, one or two interceptions, but it's it's it's an insane stat.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, we know what we didn't talk about.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: We didn't talk about last week.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: What did UT do last week?
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: Want to run through that quickly?
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: No, there's not much.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: We just destroyed Akron and we had some guys get hurt.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: And so um we we we saw some flashes.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, we saw some some freshmen play.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: Um, one thing that I think that you'll see this week that I think we we showed was um a speed option look, and you're gonna see that against Florida because they've struggled with that in the past.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: And um, we've got a freshman running back, Dylan Sampson, who's a burner.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: I think you're gonna see some speed option.
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: It's not typically what we run, it's another little wrinkle for them to worry about.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: And um, I think I think you're gonna see some hidden hooker with with his legs.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: I think he's gonna be a big part of the run game.
- 49:21SPEAKER_01: It would be very fitting.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: Florida has been killing people with speed, the speed to the outside for the last 15 years.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: So to be to beat Florida in that nature would be would be pretty cool.
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, going back to the Akron game, I want to give you a name really quick.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: Um, Walker Merrill, who I think is like your like fifth or sixth string receiver.
- 49:37SPEAKER_01: He's a sophomore.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Sophomore wide receiver.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: He uh this punt, there's this punt play.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: And the uh Akron is punting it.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: It was obviously a blown, it was obviously a blown coverage.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: Uh Walker Merrill is coming right down the middle, unblocked.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: He has an easy, easy punt block.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: Maybe take the ball off the foot, return to six.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: The Akron punter does this little shake and bake, puts the ball behind his back, just dodges him, kicks it off for a decent punt.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: I just want to shout out Walker Merrill.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: That was your moment, man.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: You were about to you were about to have the biggest, you were about to have that moment.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: The stadium, that was the easiest punt block of all punt block.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: And the Akron punter pulled a rabbit out of his hat.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: Just want to I just want to give the guy some love.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: Kudos to the Akron punter.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: He did catch a touchdown pass that game, so he repeated himself.
- 50:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, I didn't even see, I didn't even, I didn't even, I also did not pay attention to it.
- 50:22SPEAKER_03: I just put up like 63 points.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: So 66, sorry.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: Well, okay.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Walker.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: I don't feel that bad for you.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: Good for you to catch a touchdown.
- 50:28SPEAKER_01: I just felt bad because I was like, usually those guys are depth guys on the special teams.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Special teams, guys.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: And to have the, you know, because usually and it's blocking punts is just hard.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: And he had it.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: It was so okay.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: He's gonna be he's gonna be a good outside wide receiver for us.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: All right, fine.
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: My sympathy for you is over.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: Never mind, Walker Randall.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: You'll be fine.
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: Uh cool.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: All right, let's move on.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: Um, what's next?
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk about the home state.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about the home state.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about Homer time.
- 50:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's talk about tomorrow night.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: You're probably you're probably hearing this on Thursday, so actually it's gonna be tonight.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: Uh West Virginia Mountaineers one and two playing uh Virginia Tech uh two and one.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: That game is at 7:30 tomorrow night on ESPN.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: I will be watching this game for sure.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: This game is in Lane Stadium.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: Um uh West Virginia is a two-point favorite.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: They are not a good football team.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: Tech has some problems too.
- 51:16SPEAKER_01: Um I'll let you open it up.
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: What do you got?
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: I think this one uh is gonna be an interesting one.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: This one uh wasn't this the it was an old big east rivalry.
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: It was what what was the trophy?
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: The um it wasn't the backyard brawl, was it?
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: No, that's that's West Virginia Pitt.
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: This was the was it the gosh, like the Black Diamond.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: I'll look it up.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: Keep talking.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: Anyway, this is gonna be a good one.
- 51:39SPEAKER_03: Both teams really, really, really need this win.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: And Virginia Tech is coming off their first win at home.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: They're gonna ride that home environment, lean on the run game.
- 51:49SPEAKER_03: And I think for both of these schools, it's gonna be a little bit of a grinded out type game.
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: You know, who makes the first mistake?
- 51:57SPEAKER_03: Um, neither team really has a great offensive identity.
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: Both both both squads run the ball pretty well, heavy in the trenches.
- 52:06SPEAKER_03: Uh, so I think you'll kind of see both teams feel each other out, like pound the ball a little bit, you know, see see who bends first.
- 52:14SPEAKER_03: What do you think?
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: I mean that that sounds good to me.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: And yes, I'm looking up right now.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: You're right, it is the black diamond trophy.
- 52:20SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, I can't believe I pulled that.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: Hell of a pull.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: It's a it's a it is a it's a rear, weird hexagonal shaped trophy with a glass ball in the middle of it.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: It looks like the Hope Diamond, but it's black.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: You know, like a meteoroid from so much NCAA football back in the day.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: The PlayStation.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: That's that's a hell of a pull.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, they are playing for the Black Diamond Trophy, champion trophy.
- 52:42SPEAKER_01: And if you know anything about Mike and I, Mike and I love rivalry trophies.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, we love the rivalry.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: Are they still doing the trophy?
- 52:47SPEAKER_01: I I mean, I hope so.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: I hope so.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, the game is this this game has was was on hold for a while, so um Virginia Tech is holding it.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: They won the last time, so I bet you they're playing for it.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: I bet you they're gonna talk about that on ESPN tomorrow.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: I'll look into that for sure.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: Um, thoughts on Virginia Tech.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: Um, I like what they did last week.
- 53:05SPEAKER_01: I was really quickly, just want to say uh one that uh kudos to them taking care of Waffer last week, the Wafford Terriers who were over.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: Figured some things out.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: Figured some things out.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: That was exactly what I was exactly what I was gonna say.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Um, another game to Gel, which they needed.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: Um, the D gave the D held strong less than 200 yards.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Uh Jaden Blue, the the Temple uh wide receiver uh transfer.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: He seems to kind of be uh really on the same page with uh Grant Wells.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: Seems like they've got a good connection there.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: So I want to give that a little credit.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: Uh I will I will say, uh Tech, uh shame on you for giving up the first points of Wafford's season.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: They got shut out of the water.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: Wagging the finger.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: Wagging the finger.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Wafford Terriers were shut out uh zero points in the first and second game, gave up a garbage touchdown.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: They scored the first seven points of the season on Dim Hokey.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: So shame on you, Hokies, for letting Wafford do that to you.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: But otherwise, uh good win.
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: Back to the game that matters.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Uh Virginia Tech West Virginia.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: I I think I'll like what you said.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh West Virginia.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: I don't like Grant Wells very much.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: But I like Keyshawn King.
- 54:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, me too.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: And I like what they're doing on defense.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I I think Grant Wells is he's kind of like Bo Nicks, like a poor man's Bo Nick.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: So he doesn't have the ceiling of Bo Nicks, but he has Bo Nicks.
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: He has these moments, like he looks so good in the ODU first.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: He doesn't have the athleticism of Bo Nicks.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: I what I mean is the consistency, like he can play at a really high level in Spurts, and this was true for his career in Marshall.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: And the first quarter and a half of the ODU game, he did that, and then it just went off the rail, and we all know how that game went.
- 54:35SPEAKER_01: Um he played well against um for the most part against against Boston Colleges and Wafford, obviously, but Wofford.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: If I could talk to him, if you were Grant Wells, I would look you in the eyes and I would say just manage the game, stop throwing interceptions, don't stop trying to play outside yourself, right?
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: Hand the ball off, take your check downs, rely on your defense, and you're gonna be fine.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: He can be what Virginia Tech needs.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: He just needs to take care of the football.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: And in this game, it might be all they need.
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: Given the spreads are pretty much even, it's only two points.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: It's in lane, which is gonna be the sandman is gonna be blasting, they're gonna be jumping up and down.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a circus there.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: The game, the game is gonna be on their side.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: What Grant Wells has to do is not give it away.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: Don't do anything crazy to give the game away.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: Hand the ball off a lot, play defense, slow this down.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: Don't let JT Daniels get into a rhythm because JT Daniels might be the best player.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he is good.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: He actually might be the best player on the whole field on both rosters, if we're being honest.
- 55:34SPEAKER_03: Yes, I would agree with that.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, and also West Virginia, they're also they they've got big pressure on this game because, like I said, Neil Brown, his his tenure at West Virginia is probably done.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Losing this game would probably do it to him.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: They're fighting for their lives.
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: You're fighting you are Virginia Tech is welcoming a wounded animal into the NFC.
- 55:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that is a dangerous spot to be in.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: Dangerous.
- 55:55SPEAKER_01: So just Virginia Tech, like you said, play the game, don't turn it over, run the ball well, and you just keep it tight, and you can you can probably get a win.
- 56:04SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, I think it's fine playing conservative.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: You know, play to your strengths, rely on your defense, punt the ball, you know, yeah, feel each other out early, see what happens, see see who blinks first.
- 56:15SPEAKER_03: Hopefully, you know, West Virginia makes a couple mistakes, especially with that crowd getting in their ears.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 56:21SPEAKER_01: And West Virginia has blanked.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously they lost to they lost to Pitt, which is pretty good, and they lost to Kansas, who also actually might be pretty good now.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: But we'll but you know, I I'm not buying the West Virginia hype.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: I think Virginia Tech can win this game.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: West Virginia is probably a little bit better, they've probably deserved their two-point being the two-point favorite, but this is a game that Virginia Tech, if they want to get to a bowl, they probably have to have.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: They probably have to have this one.
- 56:45SPEAKER_03: I kind of have the feeling tech pulls this one out.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: Um I think I do too, actually.
- 56:49SPEAKER_03: Typically, when I look at a game like this, you know, I I you hear me say it all the time.
- 56:54SPEAKER_03: You know, it's quarterback play.
- 56:56SPEAKER_03: I would take JT JT Daniels over Grant Wells any day of the week.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: And that's kind of what gives me hesitation.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: But I just kind of feel like this is one of those games that you know, the home team, you get that that home team advantage and you and you and you win, you know, you win a close one, a nail biter.
- 57:15SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 57:15SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: Come on, hokeies.
- 57:17SPEAKER_01: Let's go get it done.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, very cool.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: All right, let's move on.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, Friday night.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: You know what's kind of cool?
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: We're actually gonna get to watch all of the Homer games, uh, because they have Hokies tomorrow, UVA Friday, Tennessee Saturday.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: And if you really want to watch on the SEC Plus Network, LSU, although no one's gonna watch that game.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's talk about Virginia at Qs.
- 57:33SPEAKER_01: Virginia is playing and the JMA Wireless Dome.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: It's always gonna be the carrier dome in my mind.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: It's always gonna be the carrier dome.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: Playing the JMA uh Wireless Dome, which is the home of Syracuse.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: Uh UVA 2 and 1, Syracuse 3-0.
- 57:46SPEAKER_01: That game is Friday night on ESPN at 7 o'clock.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: Syracuse is rightfully a nine-point favorite.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Syracuse coming off a wild one.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, wild win against Purdue, who's also a good team.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: The team probably the best one and two team in them or Louisville, probably the two the two best one and two teams in the country.
- 58:05SPEAKER_03: And Syracuse really shouldn't have won that game.
- 58:09SPEAKER_03: They they got lucky so many times.
- 58:12SPEAKER_03: Um they got just bailed out.
- 58:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, every time they fumbled, you know, threw an interception, made a costly penalty, something was there.
- 58:22SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, whether it was Purdue jumping off sides or what have you.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, they they hopefully learned their lesson uh if you're a Syracuse fan, because they should not have won that game.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: No, they probably shouldn't have, and then they'll have time to clean something up.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: But that's probably true for UVA as well.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: UVA had another very lackluster win.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: Um sorry, I don't say another one.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: They had a a lackluster.
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: They looked good against Richmond.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: They got handled by Illinois.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Um, they had uh and they lack against ODU, where they needed a fourth quarter drive at home to kick a field goal to win that game.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: Um and as we know, ODU is no slouch, but that was probably one that you know you you should have won a little bit.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: You should have gotten away from it.
- 59:03SPEAKER_01: A little bit more comfortable margin.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: The positives from the from what I'm seeing, uh UVA's defense is getting better and better, it seems like, which is which is a strong suit.
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, one of one of our Patreon subscriber, Eric actually pointed out the defense.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: He he was bullish on the defense.
- 59:15SPEAKER_01: He's a UVA fan.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: He was bullish on the defense early in the year.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: Give a little credit.
- 59:19SPEAKER_01: They are a better unit than I think most folks thought they would be, and they're continuing to play that way.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: Um, highlights of that game, uh Xavier Brown kind of emerging in the backfield, the running back from running UVA had a nice day.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: He seems like seems like they have another weapon.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: What I still don't understand, and is an and another Patreon points out to me, uh, why UVA, why Brendan Armstrong and those wideouts are just cannot seem to get it going.
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: Um, they did not get worse since Bronco Menonhall.
- 59:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know, and this is like kind of like tin foil hat conspiracy, transitive property, like to the umpteenth.
- 59:55SPEAKER_01: Tony Elliott, the UV uh the UVA head coach, former Clemson offensive coordinator, he was elite under Deshaun Watson and um Trevor Lawrence, which frankly who shouldn't be, did not do very good well with DJU.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: Is Tony Elliott not a quarterback's coach?
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: Is that what we're starting to see?
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, Brian Armstrong, Bronco is a quarterback coach.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: One of the things you can't people don't always always like Bronco, but you can't say that.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: Is Tony Elliott can he not coach this team?
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there may be something to that because he was handed, you know, a guy who is upper echelon in the conference, and he's just not utilizing him to his best ability.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_03: And yes, there could be something there with that.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_03: Um I this again, the sample size is is maybe a little bit too small, and and they're still figuring things out.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_03: Only three games in.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, they've still got to figure out what plays work, what you know what who they go to in certain situations.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: They still put up um over 500 yards of total offense against ODU, whose defense is good.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_03: And UVA fumbled the ball three times, which is uncharacteristic of any team, really.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, those are just those bounces that that didn't go your way.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_03: Um, so I wouldn't expect that again.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_03: That being said, they've got a tough task against Syracuse.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: It's probably going to be too much for them.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_03: Um, that would be my initial take is that you know, Syracuse's offense is just clicking a little bit at a higher rate than than what UVA is coming into.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_03: But UVA has the ability and they have the talent.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: They they've kind of just have to kind of let the dogs out with with Brennan Armstrong and like figure it out.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_01: They he need he needs help.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, I was gonna say that the the UVA's mistakes, which are all coachable mistakes, you know, the fumbles, the special team stuff, those are all coachable figures.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_01: Some fluky, some fluky stuff.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_01: Um, but no, they've they've they've got to make some adjustments, they've got to get better.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_01: If you I agree with you, they have the potential to win this game because and the only reason I'm saying that is because I actually think the defense is doing is playing better than anybody thought anybody really gave them credit for, minus a couple uh really passionate UVA fans.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_01: So they're doing it.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_01: And they've got a good run run game, and they're the run game is okay.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: Um, they're they're finding some talent there.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_01: Their offensive line is gonna be a problem all year, and it's it's gonna be it's gonna that they they're they're gonna they're gonna have to scheme around it, and that's coaching.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that is coaching that Bronco was able to do with Brian Armstrong and Keeton Thompson, who's an absolute stud, probably gonna play on Sundays, I think.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_03: Well, that's what I was gonna say as well is they've got their number one guy.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_03: I don't know that they've really found a number two guy.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: I mean I mean Wicks is pretty strong.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: They have the their their receivers are good enough.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, that that's it's just I I don't know why the the coaching has not been able to find them the ball more often.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_01: You know, this is one of those do some bubble screens, do some quick outs.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, run run whatever UVA's version of the Mike Leach offense is, frankly.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: Run the ball, I mean, pass the ball to run the ball.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, I would agree with that.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_01: Like at this point, like if you're if you if you think you're gonna run the ball between the tackles on Syracuse, I I don't think I don't see it in the dome.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: I don't see it.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: This this Syracuse team is tough and their defense is pretty good.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_03: So and we know Brendan Armstrong's a a capable athlete.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, he is it might it might help them to to mix in a little bit of of QB run in there, you know, even the threat of that could help open things up.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: Um, he's got wheels, so I think he can.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_01: Um, so that that's kind of where I'm with UVA.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_01: I I I just need more of the sidelines.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_01: I need more of Tony Elliott and his team.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: We're what's his game four, and he has weapons, he has tools, um, especially on offense.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_01: Um, I just I'd like to see them do some more things with those tools against somebody who's not University of Richmond, go spiders.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: Um, uh Garrett Schrader, uh, Syracuse quarterback is is is uh awesome.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_01: Tucker's a solid running back.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_01: Um, I might my take for you as well is I'm expecting Syracuse to win this game, probably by 10 points or so.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: Um, I think Syracuse is gonna be one of the stories in the ACC this year, is um uh just well coached um and well led by a good quarterback who's having is off to a good start this year.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_01: Um it's for me, it's all comes down to what for for us for the homers watching UVA closely, what can Brandon Armstrong, Antoni Elliott, Octavio Wicks can those guys all get on the same page?
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_03: Well, you know what's so funny?
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_03: Uh I didn't realize this until I just looked it up because I was so curious.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_03: Um UVA still has Robert and I as their offensive coordinator, the same offensive coordinator under Bronco Menenhall.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: He's been there for six years.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_03: So what's the issue?
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_03: What's I mean?
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_03: I understand if that I understand if that you know, as the head coach, you don't have to be a quarterback guy.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_03: You don't have to, you know, let your delegate, let your guys do what they're good at.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_03: Um, so I don't know.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_03: It's just that was interesting to me.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_03: I didn't realize that.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_03: I don't I'm following UVA closer now than I ever have.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_03: Um, so that was you know just something for me to keep an eye on because that's an eye-opener.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_01: Yep, absolutely.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: I mean that that is a that's a good nibble.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_01: Um Odell's Avenue's wings, they have receivers, they've got they've got playmakers, they're finding some studs in the run, they're finding some players in the running game.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_01: Um, I just they I'd like to see them game plan better and better in-game adjust.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_01: That's you know, that's what makes these great, good, good coaches, great coaches, is their ability to go in the halftime, see if they're not doing well, and change it.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: And they did not do that at Illinois, and they really didn't do it much um hosting ODU.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: So, and it's gonna be an absolute must.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_01: Syracuse is better than Ill Illinois.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_01: Syracuse is the best team they're gonna play so far this year.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_03: So and the ODU situation for UVA, UVA was very different than it was for Virginia Tech.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_03: UVA should have won that game pretty handily, and you know, when you have more talent and you're getting beat and you're getting outcoached, you know, that's when it's an eye-opener.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_03: And it is it's still, you know, it's still his first year at Tony Elliott's, but again, not what you want to see.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: Um, that's it for homer time.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: Uh man, I think we we did a great job tonight.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_01: Um, anything else?
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_01: Uh great job, Mike.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: Good job.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_03: Pat yourself on the Mac.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: Good job, good job.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_01: Um, just on a on a personal note, um, as everybody in here knows I'm a bit really super bullish on Baylor.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_01: Um Baylor opened up as a uh one-point favorite at Iowa State.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_01: They're now a three-point dog.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: Just makes me sad.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, that doesn't shocking to me.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: That's shocking to me too.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: It tells me that Vegas doesn't like Baylor as much as I do.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_03: Well, it doesn't make sense to me because Iowa State, I mean, look what they did in that Iowa game.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, that was an absolute mud fight.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_03: And Baylor has more talent.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: You know, they've recruited better, they've got a better offense.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_03: I don't get that one.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm big on Baylor in that game.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_01: Vegas is wrong, which I don't say very often because they're usually Not wrong, but Vegas is wrong.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_03: That's why one of my favorite, um, if you you know, all if you follow any podcasts, sportcasters, you know, prognosticators, previewers, their favorite thing to say is um, I should think um Vegas is is is pretty spot on with this line.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, you think that's their job.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_03: They're way better at it.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: They've been doing this for a long time.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_03: Like it's and you'll you might even hear one of us say it down the road.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_03: It's just like, oh yeah, three, three and a half is is is the right the right number for this game.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_03: I think Vegas pretty much nailed it.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they they nailed it, trust me.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: Uh little vignettes interesting, not this week.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_01: Uh noted, do you see the north the North Carolina quarterback uh Drake May throw an absolute shade at NC State?
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_01: He backed off.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_01: He backed off.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_01: I do apologize.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_01: Uh UNC quarterback uh was at a press conference talking about NC State, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, every North Carolina kid's a Carolina fan, those are not those who don't go to NC State because they couldn't get into Carolina, which was pretty which is a uh a knock on NC State's academics, um, which obviously got people real mad.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_01: He walked it back.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_01: But what that does is gonna make that game UNC NC State.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_01: And NC State is a better team, frankly.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_01: Let's so I mean UNC looks good, though.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_01: UNC does look good.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: If they beat Notre Dame this week, if they're hosting Notre Dame, that would go a long way.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_01: But I'm all of a sudden, I'm the the UNC NC State game, which is a couple weeks, I'm not even sure when that game is.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_01: Uh that just game just got a whole lot more interesting.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: I just hate that he had, I just hate that.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's the last week of the season.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_01: 1125.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: That's what it is.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: Last week of the season.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: So week 12.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_03: I'm all for apologizing when you've said something wrong or you've said something, you know, the the public apology is great.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_03: Um, but that's just good old-fashioned rivalry speak, man.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_03: That's not no, he's not he doesn't know anything about NC State's acceptance, you know, numbers.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_03: That's just rivalry talk, man.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_01: That's what college football is all about.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: No, it's yeah, does it no just because he said doesn't mean it was founded on anything, doesn't mean it doesn't mean there's any credibility, it's just trash talk.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_03: It's all yes, that's why I mean he's what he's 21.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_03: Come on, give him a break.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_01: Uh all right, very cool.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: Um, uh, anything else you want to add this this week or lack before we wrap this up?
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_01: I think we're I think we're just time to get out of here.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_03: No, yeah, we got to get out of here, man.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_03: All right, man.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, folks, this is uh Mike Blitz.
