Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks Mike Lane. Cracking here in Vancouver today. It was
- 0:04Speaker 1: a worldwin to get here the last twenty four hours,
- 0:07Speaker 1: but a big one against the Canucks here tonight. Sounds
- 0:10Speaker 1: like Bobby McMahon is clear the immigration protocol, so he
- 0:13Speaker 1: will be in. What are you looking for out of
- 0:15Speaker 1: him here tonight to add to this group.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Just come and play his game, Don't overthink, don't try
- 0:19Speaker 2: and do too much. You know, use your speed and
- 0:24Speaker 2: play your game. That's all you can do when you
- 0:26Speaker 2: come into a new team. And certainly you know we've
- 0:29Speaker 2: we've had a bit of a tough goal here lately,
- 0:31Speaker 2: so you know, we're just looking for a little spark
- 0:35Speaker 2: and little help. And you know, at the end of
- 0:37Speaker 2: the day, he doesn't have to be a one man show.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Just just play our team game.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It was a five to one loss for Seattle to
- 0:43Speaker 1: Colorado a couple nights ago. Given everything about the Avalanche
- 0:46Speaker 1: and the standings after the game, you felt that maybe
- 0:49Speaker 1: there was a little bit too much respect from the
- 0:50Speaker 1: crack inside three nothing down in the first period. Just
- 0:53Speaker 1: take us through your overall thoughts and what you felt
- 0:56Speaker 1: the team needed more of against the Avalanche.
- 0:59Speaker 2: We just needed to play better in the first period.
- 1:03Speaker 2: We played well enough in the second and third period,
- 1:06Speaker 2: you know, and I just think that I do think
- 1:11Speaker 2: that we came out and we're a little tenant of
- 1:13Speaker 2: you know, what I want to see out of our
- 1:14Speaker 2: hockey team here for the next eighteen games is let's
- 1:18Speaker 2: play to win. Let's let's not play not to lose.
- 1:23Speaker 2: There's a difference, and you know, I just think maybe
- 1:27Speaker 2: there was a little bit, a little bit of respect.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But at the same time, you know, you look at Colorado,
- 1:31Speaker 2: you look at their you know, their stats and things
- 1:33Speaker 2: like that, and you know, there's no question they're a
- 1:37Speaker 2: dynamic team. I just feel like, you know, we sat
- 1:39Speaker 2: back a little too much early on, and once once
- 1:43Speaker 2: we got down, we started to you know, started to
- 1:46Speaker 2: play more freely. And I think that's what we have
- 1:47Speaker 2: to do as a hockey team right now. Accountability to
- 1:50Speaker 2: be there, our systems are there, but guys seem to
- 1:54Speaker 2: be a little jammed up right now. And you know,
- 1:57Speaker 2: we had a good conversation with our team about energy
- 1:59Speaker 2: and I'm not talking about physical energy. I'm talking about
- 2:02Speaker 2: metal energy, and you know, let's let's go out and play.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You mentioned the next eighteen games for the cracking. I
- 2:08Speaker 1: know you, yourself, a lot of other coaches are very
- 2:10Speaker 1: much one day at a time, one game at a time.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But given where the cracking are, do you have more
- 2:16Speaker 1: of an eye toward the overall big picture down the
- 2:19Speaker 1: last four six weeks of the season.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I think we have made that mistake in the last
- 2:24Speaker 2: two weeks and maybe thought a little bit more about
- 2:29Speaker 2: big picture than we have about the process. I've talked
- 2:34Speaker 2: all year long about the process, you know, and if
- 2:37Speaker 2: we play well, you know, we're gonna win more than
- 2:39Speaker 2: we lose, you know, And that's what we've done all year.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I think once you see it gets down and there
- 2:47Speaker 2: starts to be a little bit of a buzz about
- 2:48Speaker 2: being in the playoffs and you're late in the season,
- 2:51Speaker 2: I think, you know, there's a tendency I guess for
- 2:53Speaker 2: guys to start thinking about that, and I think we're
- 2:57Speaker 2: jammed up a little bit because of it. I just
- 2:58Speaker 2: think we need to continue with what we've been doing
- 3:01Speaker 2: for the first fifty six games before the break, and
- 3:05Speaker 2: you know, get back to the process and not worry
- 3:07Speaker 2: about where we are in the standings right now.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I remember a few games ago you were calling out
- 3:13Speaker 1: that top nine to four group, saying you needed more
- 3:15Speaker 1: out of them. The last couple of games, we've started
- 3:17Speaker 1: to see some flashes from the likes of Matty Beniers
- 3:19Speaker 1: and others. Who are you looking for to stepping up
- 3:22Speaker 1: here tonight against Vancouver?
- 3:23Speaker 2: Well, look at we need our veteran players to step up,
- 3:26Speaker 2: and you know, it's it's just the way it is.
- 3:30Speaker 2: We have younger players who were in, like I said,
- 3:32Speaker 2: a first time situation here. We need our veteran group
- 3:35Speaker 2: to lead the way. That doesn't mean the young players
- 3:37Speaker 2: aren't impactful. They have to be. You know, I've said
- 3:40Speaker 2: we need more out of everybody, and I mean it,
- 3:44Speaker 2: you know, and so I'm looking for more. You know,
- 3:47Speaker 2: we've got to have our guys that are offensive guys
- 3:50Speaker 2: start to put bucks in the net. And you know,
- 3:53Speaker 2: we have to continue with our understanding and emphasis on
- 3:59Speaker 2: our defense play because it's got to get better. But overall,
- 4:02Speaker 2: I just think we need more from everybody.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You had a decisive win over Vancouver two weeks ago.
- 4:07Speaker 1: What do you need out of the group tonight to
- 4:09Speaker 1: get the same results? And after the deadline Vancouver they
- 4:12Speaker 1: had a few players go out, but they've been playing
- 4:14Speaker 1: better since that deadline. What can we expect that of them?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Well, a lot of times you see that, right, you
- 4:20Speaker 2: see teams that are you know, they maybe sell off
- 4:22Speaker 2: a few guys and you know, with Garland not being
- 4:26Speaker 2: here anymore, you know, as an example, and you know,
- 4:29Speaker 2: they get guys in and they're kind of playing free again.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It's a little bit about what I talked about with
- 4:36Speaker 2: our hockey team. You know, let's not get jammed up.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Vancouver's not jammed up. They don't expect to make the playoffs,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and so they're playing fast and we have to play fast.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I don't think we're playing fast enough. You know. It
- 4:49Speaker 2: just has to be. It just has to be more
- 4:51Speaker 2: of an instinctual game for us, you know. And they're
- 4:56Speaker 2: they're a good hockey team. You know they you know,
- 4:58Speaker 2: Ottawa beat them do nothing. Uh, you know, they beat
- 5:01Speaker 2: Nashville the other night. You know, we have to make
- 5:03Speaker 2: sure that we're ready to go and play fast and
- 5:05Speaker 2: be ready to go.
