- 0:04Speaker 1: am six forty listen what the flow the people say.
- 0:16Speaker 2: This KFI on a Monday morning, December fifteenth, second day
- 0:20Speaker 2: of Hanukkah today and ten days until that day Christmas,
- 0:25Speaker 2: where Neil is going to be filling in for me
- 0:28Speaker 2: on Christmas Day? Amy? Are you? Amy?
- 0:31Speaker 1: Are you working Christmas Day?
- 0:32Speaker 3: I am not?
- 0:34Speaker 1: Oh, good for you? Cono are you working Christmas Day? No?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Oh, it's getting good will? Are you working Christmas Day?
- 0:43Speaker 4: Yes?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Wow? How's that for a food chain issue?
- 0:48Speaker 2: And Ann?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Are you working Christmas Day? I am not?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Okay, who's doing Who's doing the show? I know Neil's
- 0:54Speaker 2: doing the show, but who's filling in for you? Amy?
- 0:58Speaker 3: You know I have a special edition of wake Up
- 1:02Speaker 3: Call planned for you.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Oh that means a recording of some kind. I'm very
- 1:08Speaker 2: excited about that.
- 1:10Speaker 3: It's a special edition of wake Up Call.
- 1:12Speaker 2: That's that's another name for a recording that's not going
- 1:17Speaker 2: to stay live.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Okay? Is it recorded? Yes or no?
- 1:21Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:22Speaker 4: Okay, but it's it's a good It's a good, an
- 1:25Speaker 4: entertaining edition of wake Up Call.
- 1:27Speaker 3: So if you're up early, we'll keep you entertained. I promise.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Okay, it's a good and entertaining edition of a recording.
- 1:33Speaker 2: So you wake up in the morning and you went
- 1:35Speaker 2: live news, it ain't gonna happen live news, uh, which
- 1:40Speaker 2: is also recorded.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I'm assuming you know we're still going to have live news.
- 1:43Speaker 1: All right, Yeah, I'm just being ridiculous here. All right.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yesterday last night Neil Neil Savader called me. I was
- 1:50Speaker 2: just about to go to bed, and he said, hey,
- 1:51Speaker 2: are you going to do this story tomorrow? Uh, it
- 1:53Speaker 2: looks like Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle have been killed,
- 1:58Speaker 2: stabbed to death. We didn't know at that point. Well,
- 2:00Speaker 2: first of all, we didn't know at that point that
- 2:02Speaker 2: it was a stabbing. Second of all, we didn't know
- 2:04Speaker 2: it was Rob Reiner because the police just released the
- 2:07Speaker 2: information that there were two victims at a house connected
- 2:11Speaker 2: to Rob Reiner. The ages of the victims were seventy
- 2:15Speaker 2: eight and sixty eight. They released that very early. And
- 2:17Speaker 2: guess what, we knew immediately that that was going to happen.
- 2:21Speaker 2: That was going to be the case because Rob Reiner
- 2:24Speaker 2: seventy eight and his wife Michelle sixty eight, And we
- 2:28Speaker 2: now are finding out and this is incremental bits of
- 2:32Speaker 2: information that come out, which typically doing stories like this
- 2:35Speaker 2: that the son has been arrested, their son, and we
- 2:41Speaker 2: don't know what kind of relationship we had with him.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I'm assuming it was contentious.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And Rob Reiner is now being celebrated because of the accomplishments.
- 2:51Speaker 1: He broke out.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember All in the Family,
- 2:54Speaker 2: which was groundbreaking anyway, Archie Bunker and his daughter, his
- 3:00Speaker 2: daughter and son in law. Rob Reiner played Meathead, who
- 3:04Speaker 2: was a liberal in that show, and that followed real life.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Because Rob Reiner, who is an iconic actor director, I mean,
- 3:13Speaker 2: he's done some extraordinary films.
- 3:16Speaker 1: He did television.
- 3:17Speaker 2: He was a writer for a lot of the comedy people,
- 3:20Speaker 2: the comedy late night shows, which I didn't know, and
- 3:24Speaker 2: he directed what were those two big ones that immediately
- 3:28Speaker 2: come to mind.
- 3:28Speaker 4: The funny ones are the not funny ones because he
- 3:30Speaker 4: did he did both st he.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Did miss remember I didn't realize he did. Yeah when
- 3:36Speaker 1: Harry met Sally of course.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Uh And and he also did Spinal Tap. But he
- 3:42Speaker 2: wrote for the first Comic Relief hosted by Robin Williams,
- 3:46Speaker 2: Billy Crystal WHIPOPI Goldberg. You remember that, and I did
- 3:49Speaker 2: know he was married to Penny Marshall, who that show
- 3:54Speaker 2: or her show was spun off I think from all
- 3:57Speaker 2: in the family, if I'm not mistaken, or it's spun
- 4:00Speaker 2: off from Happy Days, right, yeah, got that, and she
- 4:04Speaker 2: was a star of that, and they were married and
- 4:07Speaker 2: of course divorce and it was just I mean, what
- 4:10Speaker 2: he did was extraordinary, and he grew up. He's a
- 4:14Speaker 2: son of Carl Reiner, who he and of himself a
- 4:18Speaker 2: comedic genius and one of the early pioneers of television
- 4:22Speaker 2: in the fifties. It was just this is a heartbreaker
- 4:26Speaker 2: for anybody who is a fan of television, fan of movies.
- 4:31Speaker 2: And he was at this sort of the top an
- 4:34Speaker 2: A list director, and while I'm not an A list actor,
- 4:38Speaker 2: he was known by everybody, everybody in Hollywood, and he
- 4:41Speaker 2: was one of those directors that so many stars want
- 4:45Speaker 2: to work for. So I think the only thing that's
- 4:48Speaker 2: left in terms of this story is the relationship between
- 4:55Speaker 2: their son and themselves.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Do we have any news on that's still just wide open.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Well, we know that there was a history of drug
- 5:06Speaker 4: use in the sun. We know that they had the
- 5:09Speaker 4: father and son had worked together, that the thirty two
- 5:13Speaker 4: year old son is a screenwriter. But again we don't
- 5:17Speaker 4: have a whole lot of information. They were actually supposed
- 5:19Speaker 4: to do a press conference at seven. They pushed that back,
- 5:22Speaker 4: and that's TMZ, of course, reporting that the Sun has
- 5:25Speaker 4: now been taken into custody.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And from what I understand, I remember where I got
- 5:30Speaker 2: this story that the Sun had overcome his rug addiction,
- 5:34Speaker 2: or at least was sober for a period of time,
- 5:38Speaker 2: and I think I got that from TMZ too. In
- 5:42Speaker 2: any case, this is a story that we're going to
- 5:44Speaker 2: be following for no doubt. A few years now, another murderer,
- 5:49Speaker 2: and this one is more expansive.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Now.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I've been talking about anti Semitism growing and growing since
- 5:59Speaker 2: October seventh, actually since October eighth, when Israel attacked Gaza
- 6:05Speaker 2: and went to war with Hamas, and the anti Semitism
- 6:08Speaker 2: has simply grown and groaned. A lot has to do
- 6:11Speaker 2: with the way Israelis or Tea are treating the folks
- 6:16Speaker 2: in Gaza, and some seventy thousand people in Gaza have
- 6:20Speaker 2: been killed. So there's a lot of international pressure and
- 6:24Speaker 2: there's a lot of international hatred towards Israel.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And when we.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Talk about anti Semitism. What happened at Bondi Beach yesterday
- 6:34Speaker 2: in Australia has taken it to extraordinary heights because this
- 6:39Speaker 2: is far more than anti Semitism. This is straight out
- 6:42Speaker 2: terrorism against Jewish people. Fifteen people were killed yesterday and
- 6:48Speaker 2: dozen more injured after two gunmen open fired at a
- 6:51Speaker 2: crowd of about a thousand celebrating Hanukkah on the beach.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And this was put together by Kabbad of Sydney.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Kabbad being a Jewish organization that is the only one
- 7:04Speaker 2: I know that actually proselytizes not to get people to
- 7:07Speaker 2: join the Jewish religion, not interested in that. You know,
- 7:10Speaker 2: you're not Jewish, Mazeltov, stay not Jewish. What it does
- 7:14Speaker 2: is try to get Jews to become more religious. And
- 7:18Speaker 2: I have been confronted with Kabad Nick's that's what they
- 7:22Speaker 2: call them, many times, and I say, you know what,
- 7:26Speaker 2: no thanks, but it's not unusual. It's an organization that's
- 7:29Speaker 2: pretty aggressive. So they're on a beach on Saturday or
- 7:34Speaker 2: Sunday in Sydney, Bondi Beach, which is one of the
- 7:38Speaker 2: more high end neighborhoods in Sydney, and forty people were injured,
- 7:46Speaker 2: fifteen were killed and two police officers also were shot.
- 7:52Speaker 2: And the second shooter, a son of the first shooter,
- 7:58Speaker 2: is still alive, the father having been killed, and the
- 8:02Speaker 2: police call the shootings a targeted attack on Jewish Australians
- 8:07Speaker 2: law enforcements. A law enforcement calls it a straight out
- 8:11Speaker 2: terrorist attack. And there were also two addition to the
- 8:15Speaker 2: two shootings, and the two gunman was taken down, one killed,
- 8:20Speaker 2: one seriously wounded. There were two improvised explosives in a
- 8:25Speaker 2: nearby vehicle.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Link. I love that when they say that link to.
- 8:28Speaker 2: The suspect, belonging to the suspects. And then you see
- 8:32Speaker 2: a video of one bystander. The people are calling a
- 8:35Speaker 2: hero and legitimately so, and he is seen attacking one
- 8:40Speaker 2: of the armed, the father gunmen and wrestling the long
- 8:44Speaker 2: gun from him and it was an extraordinary act of bravery,
- 8:48Speaker 2: probably saved a bunch of people. Now Jewish people have
- 8:52Speaker 2: been increasingly targeted. And what makes this story even more
- 8:59Speaker 2: heart wrenching is the fact that there was a ten
- 9:02Speaker 2: year old that was killed, and there was a man
- 9:06Speaker 2: in his eighties I believe in his eighties, maybe his nineties.
- 9:09Speaker 2: They don't give us the age who was a Holocaust
- 9:12Speaker 2: survivor can you imagine surviving the Holocaust and then being
- 9:20Speaker 2: killed on the beach Bondye Beach celebrating Hanukkah.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Wow, that is that's terrible.
- 9:29Speaker 2: That is And you know, the anti Semitism is rampant now,
- 9:34Speaker 2: attacks on synagogue throughout the country, Jewish organizations, and as
- 9:39Speaker 2: you can imagine, security is ramped up all basically all
- 9:44Speaker 2: over the world at Jewish at synagogues, Jewish buildings, community centers.
- 9:50Speaker 1: As you know, my kids went to a Jewish day.
- 9:54Speaker 2: School and back then and we're talking about going back
- 9:58Speaker 2: fifteen years, the security was extraordinary because of the fear
- 10:05Speaker 2: of anti Semitism and attacks. And we had armed security
- 10:10Speaker 2: that were there and there was unarmed and that wasn't
- 10:14Speaker 2: even shared with the parents. The school official says, we're
- 10:19Speaker 2: not even tell you what we have in terms of security.
- 10:24Speaker 2: One of the victims was Rabbi Elie Schlanger. He was
- 10:28Speaker 2: described as a devoted chaplain who worked tyrosle as a
- 10:32Speaker 2: Kabbad emissary. It is one of those attacks and by
- 10:39Speaker 2: the way, both of and I don't want to sound
- 10:42Speaker 2: like it sounds like a Muslim attack and label Muslims,
- 10:49Speaker 2: but they had Muslim names and it was a father
- 10:53Speaker 2: and son who were out shooting the place up.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Obviously, the cops are going through everything.
- 11:00Speaker 2: They have, every bit of email, any texts, they have,
- 11:03Speaker 2: any chats, any searches for terrorist activities, explosives, buying guns.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And Australia has one of the toughest gun control laws
- 11:16Speaker 2: actually in the industrialized world. And they came out of
- 11:19Speaker 2: a nineteen ninety six event where twenty four people were
- 11:25Speaker 2: shot and killed in Australia in Tasmania, that big island
- 11:30Speaker 2: off the southern coast of Australia, Tasmania, which is also
- 11:36Speaker 2: the home to many millions of people. All Right, guys,
- 11:38Speaker 2: we're done with that, and it's just bad news after
- 11:41Speaker 2: the bad news after bad news.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Okay, Now, as I said earlier, I'm going to explain
- 11:49Speaker 1: to Amy why men.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Within a fifteen mile radius of the Diabolo Nuclear Plant
- 12:00Speaker 2: one along the California coast, if you go up along
- 12:03Speaker 2: one oh one, you'll see these this power plant with
- 12:07Speaker 2: those domes that look like a giant set of breasts
- 12:11Speaker 2: that are there. It's pretty impressive. And I'll tell you
- 12:14Speaker 2: why they don't. Men don't need night lights amy because
- 12:20Speaker 2: if you're within fifteen miles of a power plant, men
- 12:24Speaker 2: have blue balls that glow.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And you don't. You're welcome there, you are just I
- 12:35Speaker 1: just wanted to share that with you.
- 12:37Speaker 2: And it is the last one that's in the United
- 12:41Speaker 2: States or in California, and there's been a massive move
- 12:44Speaker 2: in California. The environmentalists do not like nuclear power plants,
- 12:48Speaker 2: although other environmentalists do like nuclear power plants because the
- 12:54Speaker 2: footprint is so small and it produces a huge amount
- 13:00Speaker 2: of energy without fossil fuels.
- 13:03Speaker 1: It's fossil fuel neutral.
- 13:06Speaker 2: But they're both sides of that quite you know, two
- 13:08Speaker 2: million gallons of water punched into the Pacific every day,
- 13:13Speaker 2: and the environ environmentalists are saying it kills a lot
- 13:17Speaker 2: of fish. Those that are in favor of the power
- 13:19Speaker 2: plants say the water is actually cleaner when it goes
- 13:22Speaker 2: in to the ocean.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And here it was.
- 13:27Speaker 2: It was supposed to be decommissioned in twenty thirty and
- 13:32Speaker 2: because it produces so much power, about ten percent of
- 13:37Speaker 2: the power in California is produced by this one plant.
- 13:44Speaker 1: All of a sudden, people are going, wait a minute.
- 13:47Speaker 2: The reality is there's no chance that California can remain
- 13:52Speaker 2: fossil fuel neutral, in other words, not using one bit
- 13:55Speaker 2: of fossil fuel by twenty I think forty five is
- 13:59Speaker 2: what Governor Knewson wants. Without the use of nukes, you
- 14:03Speaker 2: can't do it. So how dangerous are is nuclear power? Well,
- 14:09Speaker 2: it was well on his way to coming back after
- 14:12Speaker 2: three Mile Island. It fell apart the sentiment, and then
- 14:16Speaker 2: you had then sure Noble came in and everybody was
- 14:18Speaker 2: scared to death, and then Fukushima just shut it down. Well,
- 14:23Speaker 2: we're going back now, and why is that? Well, to
- 14:26Speaker 2: give you an idea, this one power plant produces enough
- 14:30Speaker 2: power for and then it's always the same thing, hundreds
- 14:33Speaker 2: of thousands of homes.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Did you know that.
- 14:36Speaker 2: France has either seventy five or eighty five percent of
- 14:40Speaker 2: all of its power produced by nukes, by nuclear power plants,
- 14:45Speaker 2: and they don't seem to be frightened of it. I'm
- 14:47Speaker 2: a big fan of nuclear power plants because I kind
- 14:52Speaker 2: of like the idea of blue balls walking around the house,
- 14:56Speaker 2: these glowing nuts. And the power plant Diablo nineteen eighty
- 15:03Speaker 2: five is when it was built, and the two million
- 15:07Speaker 2: gallons I said.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Every day it's been in construction.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Since construction, it's been a lot of mystery about this,
- 15:15Speaker 2: a lot of controversy because of the damage to marine life.
- 15:21Speaker 2: The Coastal Commission estimates that two billion larval fish.
- 15:25Speaker 1: A year are killed.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I don't know how many they're out there with that
- 15:28Speaker 2: percentage is And at this point is it going to
- 15:32Speaker 2: be allowed to continue on?
- 15:35Speaker 1: It looks that way.
- 15:38Speaker 2: The last hurdle was the Coastal Commission, and they finally
- 15:41Speaker 2: said yes, as long as, okay, there are some caveats here,
- 15:47Speaker 2: and they extended it another I think fifteen years, as
- 15:51Speaker 2: long as eight thousand acres belonging to the power plant
- 15:55Speaker 2: is set aside, so there'll be no development ever lately.
- 16:01Speaker 1: And the other thing is.
- 16:02Speaker 2: The amount of money that has to go to the
- 16:05Speaker 2: power plant in subsidies, and at this point they're trying
- 16:10Speaker 2: to figure out how much is going to be paid
- 16:13Speaker 2: by Southern California as the Edison, San Diego Gaston Electric
- 16:17Speaker 2: which has nothing to do with those power plants, but
- 16:20Speaker 2: the plant provides energy to the entire state, so therefore
- 16:25Speaker 2: it's okay for the state rate payers to.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Kick into this.
- 16:30Speaker 2: However, on top of that, usually federal money comes in
- 16:35Speaker 2: and oh, federal money to the state under President Trump.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Wow, we don't know.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Although under President Trump, the rate the amount of money
- 16:46Speaker 2: given to power plants, especially in even even the Diablo
- 16:51Speaker 2: power plant, has not been reduced. Even with all the
- 16:56Speaker 2: craziness going on, the money still flows. So we're going
- 16:59Speaker 2: to see that happen. I think there's some other ones
- 17:02Speaker 2: too that are being built. But it you know, it
- 17:04Speaker 2: takes about ten years to build a nuclear power plant
- 17:07Speaker 2: at least. I mean, the regulatory controls are insane.
- 17:15Speaker 1: All right.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Now here is a fun question, Amy. There were exactly
- 17:20Speaker 2: two Olympics in the history of the modern Olympics that
- 17:24Speaker 2: actually made money, that showed a profit, and they were
- 17:28Speaker 2: do doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
- 17:31Speaker 2: doo do do do do do any idea? Don't look
- 17:33Speaker 2: it up, just look at me and tell me which Olympic.
- 17:37Speaker 2: I know you were looking at the news, so maybe
- 17:39Speaker 2: you weren't paying attention.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I'm so sorry, I was looking at the news. What
- 17:42Speaker 3: do you what's your question?
- 17:44Speaker 2: Two Olympics that made money in the history of a
- 17:46Speaker 2: modern day Olympics, which cities, well, Los Angeles, Los Angeles
- 17:50Speaker 2: is one the other one, Los Angeles, you.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Already knew the answer and you wanted me to google it.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Yep, ninth, No, you didn't have to google it in
- 18:02Speaker 2: nineteen thirty two, nineteen eighty four. And we're hoping that
- 18:07Speaker 2: number three the hat trick is going to be LA again.
- 18:11Speaker 2: So here's what's going on. The people who run the
- 18:15Speaker 2: Olympics is a private organization. It is not public at all,
- 18:21Speaker 2: and this year it's called LA twenty eight and.
- 18:25Speaker 1: There is, let's say, a.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Consultation with each other, a disagreement, maybe a lawsuit. Who's
- 18:35Speaker 2: going to pay for additional city services required? And we're
- 18:40Speaker 2: talking about hundreds of millions of dollars taxpayer money is
- 18:43Speaker 2: if it's going to be the city Now, the city
- 18:46Speaker 2: had an October one deadline for hammering out a quote
- 18:50Speaker 2: enhanced City Resources master agreement with LA twenty eight. That
- 18:57Speaker 2: was October one. Didn't happen, did it. City officials met,
- 19:01Speaker 2: and we're going to talk about the potential for a
- 19:03Speaker 2: lawsuit because we don't know who's going to pay for
- 19:08Speaker 2: all these additional city services, what kind of city services well, security,
- 19:13Speaker 2: trash removal, traffic control, paramedics. That hasn't been figured out yet,
- 19:20Speaker 2: and LA twenty eight is arguing that it should be
- 19:24Speaker 2: the city. The city is saying, wait a minute, how
- 19:27Speaker 2: about you guys, because this is a it actually is
- 19:30Speaker 2: a private event. The City of Los Angeles is not
- 19:35Speaker 2: running the Olympics. Now, they're providing some services, but we
- 19:40Speaker 2: expect to be reimbursed. And the analogy is the Dodgers'
- 19:46Speaker 2: twenty twenty four World Series victory parade. All right, well,
- 19:51Speaker 2: that was a private event that was put on by
- 19:53Speaker 2: the Dodgers, and the Dodgers reimbursed the city two million
- 19:58Speaker 2: dollars for police, for police, fire, transportation, other services. So
- 20:05Speaker 2: the city in LA twenty eight are meeting every day
- 20:08Speaker 2: to try to hash some of this out. And the
- 20:11Speaker 2: other thing is that part of President's Trump Big Beautiful
- 20:16Speaker 2: Bill includes a billion dollars to reimburse state and local
- 20:21Speaker 2: governments for security, planning Olympics related costs.
- 20:26Speaker 1: But we don't know.
- 20:29Speaker 2: How much of that money is going to come to
- 20:32Speaker 2: LA twenty eight or the City of Los Angeles to
- 20:35Speaker 2: reimburse the city, and we're not going to know until
- 20:38Speaker 2: next year. And naturally, the first assumption is that the
- 20:45Speaker 2: city or LA twenty eight will not be getting federal
- 20:48Speaker 2: money because of the way the President feels about southern California,
- 20:52Speaker 2: especially the city of La although he has not stopped
- 20:56Speaker 2: money that has already been allocated to the Olympics.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Has not stopped it. Even in the midst of all
- 21:03Speaker 1: this craziness.
- 21:04Speaker 2: The money seems to be flowing in, but we won't
- 21:07Speaker 2: know the final tab or who is going to be
- 21:09Speaker 2: responsible for those additional funds. And the city is saying
- 21:14Speaker 2: we just don't have it. In LA twenty eight is saying, yeah,
- 21:17Speaker 2: but you have to provide it. This is what cities
- 21:21Speaker 2: do when they host Olympics. And so everybody's up in
- 21:26Speaker 2: the air now. That city council meeting, even though they
- 21:29Speaker 2: argue back and forth, there was absolutely no talk about
- 21:33Speaker 2: a lawsuit none at all, even though it may very
