- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three OT where we talk all
- 0:04things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:09Reyes. It all starts right now.
- 0:16Welcome back to the three OT presented by Chinook.
- 0:18Cedry, this is episode 538. I'll be your host, Kyle Cord.
- 0:21I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:26Nate. Casey, How are we?
- 0:33Not going to lie, man, I'm I'm still reeling from in a good way
- 0:40from our score keeping adventure Sunday night.
- 0:45I've still been thinking about how much I how much I enjoyed
- 0:49that over the last few days. That was good.
- 0:52That was a good time. And even in the, even in the
- 0:54last couple games that I've watched and the night since
- 0:58then, I've been thinking, I've been sort of just playing it out
- 1:00in my head like, OK, what would I score?
- 1:02Like, what am I scoring here? What am I, what am I jotting
- 1:04down on my score? And I, I, I feel as if I need to
- 1:13get my muscle memory down and maybe score another game in the
- 1:16coming days, maybe this weekend to sort of get that.
- 1:19I agree. I agree.
- 1:21Not that not that Meredith struggles to watch with you at
- 1:25all, right? Because she seems she's a Nats
- 1:28fan. She's she's always been dish.
- 1:38But I didn't say anything. I didn't say anything if you're
- 1:41watching on YouTube. You guys have been together a
- 1:43long time. So like she's she's been around
- 1:45baseball a long time. Yeah, she loves sitting down and
- 1:48watching a game. Have you, have you told her
- 1:49about like, have you brought it up to her about maybe teaching
- 1:53her? I haven't I feel like I should I
- 1:56I did express how much I enjoyed it and I was I was like AI was
- 2:00like a proud toddler. The after the game on Sunday
- 2:03night when I took up the we finished up down here and I took
- 2:06the scorecard up and I was like I stated there, like like I
- 2:10wanted to put her, wanted her to put it on the fridge or
- 2:13something. I'm like, look, my first score
- 2:15kept score of my first game. She's like, good job.
- 2:18No, I'm just kidding. She was she was happy.
- 2:20But yeah, that's that's a skill that I I may may need to pass
- 2:23along to her. That was that was good.
- 2:25And I again appreciate you for teaching me and the the many
- 2:30others that were in the I feel bad.
- 2:32Honestly, I feel, I feel like I miss stuff and there's also
- 2:36weird things that didn't happen. The fact that we didn't have a
- 2:38single double play in that game was wild.
- 2:42Very. Yeah, that was.
- 2:44So those had no idea what we're talking about and didn't didn't
- 2:48get to check the live stream Sunday night.
- 2:53We're going to do something. I guess we've mentioned this a
- 2:56bunch of times, but if you live under a rock and maybe this is
- 2:59your first episode, welcome. Hi.
- 3:03I'm Kyle, This is Nate. We're going to do something like
- 3:06once a once a month ish where we're going to watch Sunday
- 3:09Night Baseball, We're going to stream it and and we're going to
- 3:11keep book. And I'm not going to proclaim
- 3:17that I'm some kind of expert or anything.
- 3:19I just know how to do it. And Kyle didn't and now he does.
- 3:23And if you want to learn, we're going to do that.
- 3:27We're going to try to pick like a good matchup once a month that
- 3:33hopefully kind of lines up with our schedules.
- 3:35And yeah, we're going to hang out on Sundays, eat some dinner,
- 3:42eat some seeds, keep book, which by the way, is the is the
- 3:51baseball phrase for keeping score, which I don't know who
- 3:55was in the in the comments upset with calling it keep keeping
- 4:01book. I yeah, Who calls it Keeping
- 4:03book? I'm like pretty much everybody
- 4:06that's ever been around the baseball field that I've talked
- 4:09to about it. Anybody.
- 4:10Yeah. I learned in high school and
- 4:12that was like that I've never heard.
- 4:14I've actually that sounds weird to me if you say I'm going to
- 4:17keep score. Yeah, it definitely.
- 4:20Yeah, I don't, I don't really saying it.
- 4:22How neat is it, by the way, that like what other sports can you
- 4:25do that for? True, true.
- 4:30Nothing. I'm.
- 4:32Going to keep stats but like in a manual like traditional way
- 4:36very very. True, that's our thing.
- 4:38Super sick. Any who's Speaking of sick?
- 4:43You know what makes me want to throw up?
- 4:53I could have taken a shot, but I won't.
- 4:55All right, go ahead, take your shot.
- 4:58Medium rare steak. All right?
- 5:04OK, buddy. All right.
- 5:07No, actually, I would enjoy medium rare steak.
- 5:10What makes me want to throw up is the fact that the pirates
- 5:16have made it clear that they're not wanting to trade Paul
- 5:19Skeens. And I tell you what makes me
- 5:24want to throw up. What's the shrub?
- 5:30What's the shoulder shrug for? Don't even try to convince me
- 5:34that this is like a smart business endeavor.
- 5:40For the very short term, sure. But like very short term.
- 5:45I think this is a year by year base basis.
- 5:48I think this is let's, I don't think it's something that like
- 5:51they can just have a sweeply sweeping declaration on and
- 5:54saying like we're not trading them at all.
- 5:57I'm in the camp that no one can afford them.
- 5:59And when I mean no one, I mean no one, no one can afford Paul
- 6:03Skeens. No one can afford Paul Skeens
- 6:06right now with four plus years of control left.
- 6:13Actually, it's probably like 5 years of control left.
- 6:20No, no one can afford him. And the ridiculous I, I was
- 6:25watching something that Bleacher Report posted where it was like
- 6:28the mock trades, like let's, let's come up with like mock
- 6:33trades from some teams that may be in contention and every can,
- 6:37every team was just their top three prospects and that's it.
- 6:40That's not enough. That's enough for Paul Skeens in
- 6:45two or three years where he only has a year left.
- 6:50When you have 4 plus go around five years of control, Paul
- 6:56Skeens, you can't afford him because it's not just your top
- 7:01three minimum. I would say probably another
- 7:06couple prospects and a couple big league right now guys,
- 7:11current big league right now guys.
- 7:13So what's the point? I'm also in the camp that what
- 7:17are you trading for? Are you trading for another Paul
- 7:21Skeens? What are you hoping for in that
- 7:24trade? You're not ready to win now.
- 7:30There's no point in moving him right now.
- 7:32That that's exactly the point. That's the the exact reason they
- 7:36should move him. Bob Nutting buddy, open your
- 7:40eyes. You are doing a disservice to
- 7:43the game of bet. Not just, not just the.
- 7:45City of pitching to grow. That's it.
- 7:48I think it's silly. You are doing a disservice to
- 7:52the game of baseball. You're you're not helping Paul
- 7:56skins your own team can't help Paul skins lot.
- 8:00What was it last outing 8 innings of one run ball lose the
- 8:05game and that's you think oh, that's just an one example Look
- 8:10at the way the entire season has gone.
- 8:12It's only going to get worse. This isn't going to get better.
- 8:16And and I think, I think you know, Bob Nutting and whoever
- 8:21else is in charge of discussing the decision around Paul Skins,
- 8:27whether or not to move, move on from him or not and maybe get
- 8:30some value, better get a haul of value in return.
- 8:34They're naive to think that anything is going to change.
- 8:38How like for the last, how many year, how many years have we
- 8:41been saying this about the Pittsburgh Pirates?
- 8:43Like, man, they're, they're, they've got the, the ingredients
- 8:47for the recipe to make it work to, to really light the fire
- 8:52onto that in that city for that sport, for that team.
- 8:56And we can see a resurgence of Pittsburgh Pirates baseball.
- 9:00How many years have we been saying that and nothing's
- 9:03changed? So why not Just like selfishly I
- 9:09understand, but I'm sitting here going let him go play for
- 9:13somebody else that's gonna make the team better, the team that
- 9:16can support him and also just be more of a reward for the rest of
- 9:23baseball to enjoy. Instead of watching him sit
- 9:26here, look, look at his body language in the dugout on start
- 9:30days and after starts. He's he already knows.
- 9:34Even at his age, his his very young age, with his limited
- 9:38experience at this level, he knows this is not where he needs
- 9:41to be right now, and he hates it.
- 9:44OK, I number one, I think his body language is just that way
- 9:51when he pitches. He's just, I think he's a very
- 9:52intense guy. He's he's very unemotional in
- 9:56general. More let me clarify more after
- 9:59the fact, like after these starts when he gives you what he
- 10:01gives you and then re looks up at the scoreboard and goes well,
- 10:04that's another loss on on my record.
- 10:06Not that the losses matter to him, I'm sure, but.
- 10:08I, I don't, I don't disagree in the fact that like he, he's a
- 10:12very obvious competitor. He, he very obviously wants to
- 10:18win it and he, he seems like that guy.
- 10:22And to go from top of the world at LSU in a, in a national
- 10:32championship to, you know, one of the worst organizations in
- 10:37baseball for the last 3-4 decades.
- 10:40Like, I understand what you're saying, but in my mind, I think
- 10:51I think the scenario is, is, is let some of your youth continue
- 10:56to develop. Let O'Neill Cruz continue to
- 10:59settle in and be the guy he is. Let Jared Jones come back and
- 11:06we'll get into him later. Let Bubba Chandler come up and
- 11:09be his guy and like let all of this start to develop a little
- 11:13bit more because selling him right now I just, I don't think
- 11:17does anything it, it doesn't change anything.
- 11:20So why not just like enjoy the revenue that you're getting from
- 11:24this name, Enjoy the the eyeballs that you're getting
- 11:27from this name. And in hopes of over the next
- 11:31two or three years, maybe some of these other guys in your
- 11:36organization start to become things and maybe you can start
- 11:40to fill in gaps. I mean, I, I'm not holding out
- 11:44hope. But what I'm saying is like, I,
- 11:48I think there's a right time to press the button.
- 11:51And I just don't think right now is the right time.
- 11:54And I'm also going to double up. This question was saying, should
- 11:57the Pirates trade Paul Skeens? It's should any other team trade
- 12:02for Paul Skeens? And I think of what they would
- 12:06have to give up right now. No, I think no.
- 12:13I think it'd be an A a ridiculous overpay.
- 12:20I think we're giving the Pirates too much credit when talking
- 12:23about the future and saying, well, hold on to them, milk the
- 12:29value that you can because in that scenario, we're assigning a
- 12:35level of competence inherently to the front office and how they
- 12:40would handle Paul Skeens, his future and the pieces around
- 12:45him. We know, we know very well when
- 12:48it comes to the Pittsburgh Pirates that they have have said
- 12:50this countless times that they are a feeder system to the rest
- 12:54of Major League Baseball. So all really, the names that
- 12:57you mentioned in my mind don't matter when it comes to Paul
- 13:01Skeens, his future because there's a good chance they're
- 13:05not going to be there, whether it's because they've reached
- 13:09free agency or the pirates realize, oh, maybe, maybe we
- 13:12just trade this guy, capitalize on the value a little bit.
- 13:15So by the time Paul Skeens is ready to really capitalize, I
- 13:20mean, he's already made such a great impact for this team even
- 13:23just in his second year. But by the time he reaches free
- 13:28agency, where he's presumably fully hitting his stride, we're
- 13:35going to be talking about a completely different batch of
- 13:37names. So it's like, if that, if that's
- 13:39the way you're going to handle one of baseball's biggest stars,
- 13:43then just do the rest of the league a, a service a solid and
- 13:49just let him go elsewhere where he can help grow the game
- 13:53further. Would I love to see him compete
- 13:55for a relevant team? Of course I, I, I would love
- 13:59that. But I think the realistic side
- 14:01of it is just like none of it matters.
- 14:07I, I thought we weren't going to talk about them anymore.
- 14:12They need to wipe everything clean and learn how to develop
- 14:17and learn how to scout and learn how to coach at all levels.
- 14:24I, they need to do all those things, but they need to be able
- 14:29to fill in these gaps somehow, some way.
- 14:31And, and it doesn't just have to be go like the, the, you can't
- 14:35just stamp everything of like go spend more money on free agents,
- 14:39go spend more money on free agents.
- 14:40Like there's teams that don't do that.
- 14:43And that's OK. There's plenty of teams that
- 14:46find success other ways. It's the lack of searching for
- 14:52that success. It's the lack of changing what
- 14:55they've been doing that really bugs me the most.
- 14:58So who knows, man, if we Fast forward in two years and you're
- 15:04telling me that he's their number one, this Bubba Chandler
- 15:09kid is is the truth. And he's their number 2.
- 15:13And Jared Jones is back fully healthy from his surgery and
- 15:16he's their number 3. And you get a young manager in
- 15:21that like starts to create a little bit of a different
- 15:25culture. And you have O'Neal Cruz, who
- 15:28continues to do O'Neal Cruz things.
- 15:32There could be this this aura that gets created, and there
- 15:37could be this, like, somehow whatever is happening on the
- 15:40field is forcing this organization to change the way
- 15:43they're doing things. And I have hope in that more
- 15:48than I have hope in the front, the front office and the
- 15:51organization changing on their own, if that makes sense.
- 15:56I, I mean, I hear you and, and to a point I agree with you.
- 15:59But in this scenario that you've laid out, they're still
- 16:04presumably still going to be at the helm when that situation
- 16:08unfolds. When you're talking about a
- 16:10three headed monster, potentially 4, who knows Unless
- 16:14in your rotation. Unless.
- 16:16They. Sell, you know, OK, well, I
- 16:18mean, that's a completely different story, but I I just
- 16:20don't foresee that happening. So to me, it's like if they're
- 16:24still the ones making the decisions, they're still the
- 16:26ones that are going to have to to surround the that rotation
- 16:30with pieces in addition to O'Neill Cruz to make it a a
- 16:34respectable team, A-Team that's worth like capable of making a
- 16:38run of a wild card spot. I just don't.
- 16:41I don't foresee it happening. I, I in a perfect world, I'd
- 16:44love for MLB to step in. I'd love for other owners to
- 16:47step in and say, Hey, it's been how long?
- 16:54Ten straight years of a sub 500 record or whatever it is.
- 16:58Like something unbelievably uncompetitive.
- 17:03Like I, I, I would love for our league to step in and say you
- 17:06got to go and enforce the cell because like I, I think we've
- 17:12seen that in the past, like in it's weird sticky situations.
- 17:16What, what was the Dodgers thing 1015 years ago?
- 17:20There was like a divorce and that like MLB is like, you got
- 17:24to sell, you got to get rid of this.
- 17:28So like, I, I think there's ways around it.
- 17:33And I'd like to say that there should be some type of
- 17:38competitive stipulation, but there isn't really like any,
- 17:44what's the word? There's no.
- 17:51Accountability. No, What's the like when lawyers
- 17:55have like precedent? Like there's like precedent set?
- 17:59Like if there was, if there's something in the past where like
- 18:02a team was forced or an owner was forced to sell based on a
- 18:06lack of competitiveness, if that precedent was already set,
- 18:09that'd be great. But like something, someone's
- 18:12got to be the first. Why not the Pirates, man?
- 18:15Why not the MLB? Just stepping in and saying we
- 18:17got to change this now. You're going to be the first
- 18:19one. I like that.
- 18:21And and you could go so many different ways with that.
- 18:23Like if, if I mean as simple as like your winning percentage
- 18:27over a certain period of time has to be this or there's going
- 18:32to be ramifications or yeah, you you could, I mean, I don't want
- 18:38to go down too many rabbit holes.
- 18:39You could you could go so many different ways with that, but I
- 18:41mean, they'll I. But again, we'll wrap it up
- 18:45because we've had way too much Pirates talk already this year.
- 18:50Stop it. I said this last time, I'll say
- 18:54it again. I think when MLB expands, then
- 18:58we get two extra teams and grows at 32 and maybe teams move,
- 19:02maybe teams pop out of new cities.
- 19:05I, I think the restructure of divisions could really, really
- 19:12affect things. And like I said, if, if the
- 19:14Pirates all the sudden have the Red Sox, the Mets, the Yankees,
- 19:20the Phillies in their division, and now all of those fans are
- 19:24filling up that stadium, that changes the value of that
- 19:28organization. And I do think that there's a
- 19:31peak time to sell. There's a peak time to sell this
- 19:34organization. There's a peak time to sell Paul
- 19:38Skeens then. I don't think the peak is quite
- 19:41there yet. So what happens over the next
- 19:45few years as MLB? And look, whether you like it or
- 19:49not, I think it's coming. I think the MLB is up for a huge
- 19:53shift. And I think NL and AL are going
- 19:58to look different than we've ever imagined.
- 20:01And you're going to see teams that have spent 100 years in a
- 20:05league. That that doesn't mean anything
- 20:07anymore. That's, I think that's the way
- 20:09it's going and it's going to shift some stuff.
- 20:16I've never, last thing I'll say on the Paul schemes better.
- 20:18I've never been a proponent of Major League Baseball or the
- 20:22players rather adopting the philosophy that you see play out
- 20:27or the practice really that you see play out in football and
- 20:32basketball with the sit outs related to contracts related to
- 20:36playing time related to this or that.
- 20:40But if there was a guy where I and I, and the reason I'm
- 20:42bringing this up is because I saw, I saw suggested on
- 20:46something, I was reading about it earlier today where it was
- 20:48like maybe Paul schemes, You know, like if the, if the
- 20:52Pirates have made it clear that they're not going to trade him,
- 20:54maybe Paul like if he's serious about it, if he really doesn't
- 20:57want to be there. And I we mentioned it earlier, I
- 21:00could see his feelings on this heightening tenfold, a
- 21:03hundredfold after this World Baseball Classic when he gets a
- 21:06true taste of what it looks like to pitch in competitive baseball
- 21:10games for a competitive team. If they, if the Pirates have
- 21:15made it clear that they're not interested in trading him and
- 21:17he's really serious about getting out of there, maybe he
- 21:19becomes a guy that sits out and says, you know what, that's
- 21:23fine, I can. Hear you, I think.
- 21:24It sounds great. I'm a holder.
- 21:26I'm just, I know I'm, I'm not saying that would happen and I'm
- 21:29not, I'm not an advocate of players sitting out.
- 21:31But in this particular situation with this particular team, even
- 21:36I, I feel I, I could feel a certain way about it.
- 21:40I could be very easily convinced.
- 21:44I think he's too much of A winner.
- 21:48Well, you could make the argument that if he if he is
- 21:50that much of A winner, maybe he would do what he needs to do.
- 21:54He he would he'd play a little hardball to get to a winning
- 21:57team so that he's not so so he's not going out throwing 8 Indians
- 22:03of one run ball and still getting handed the loss.
- 22:06I. Don't think there's anything you
- 22:08can do. Not during this period, not
- 22:10during arbitration. I don't know a guy that would
- 22:17probably be open to a trade for a bucket of balls.
- 22:22Luis Robert, he actually came out today, yesterday and asked
- 22:29about, you know, potential trade because his name's been floated
- 22:33around with on the trade market really the last last year or
- 22:37two. And they, Scott Merkin of
- 22:41mlbd.com asked him about it and he said right now is my season
- 22:48is going, I don't think anyone is going to take a chance on me.
- 22:51And I got to say he kind of nailed it on the head there
- 22:57because the guy stinks right now.
- 23:00Truthfully, don't really know why I have them stashed on my
- 23:04fantasy team. I don't know what I'm waiting
- 23:05for. A guy's been kind of cheeks for
- 23:07the last calendar year, if we're being honest.
- 23:11And that's a truthfully, call me ignorant.
- 23:15I I don't really understand why this is a name that's been so
- 23:19heavily coveted on the trade market, or maybe not coveted,
- 23:23but presented as such a valuable piece.
- 23:26Like, yeah, I've seen what he can do, but he there is
- 23:29something not right, whether it be mechanically, mentally, maybe
- 23:35just the fact that he's playing for the White Sox, maybe that
- 23:37has something to do with it. I, I just, I haven't seen it.
- 23:42It doesn't make sense to me why Louise Robert is a name that's
- 23:46being floated so often and so strongly, given the way his last
- 23:53year plus has gone. Potential, I guess.
- 23:58I don't know. I'm the White Sox botched
- 24:03another situation, but it doesn't help that he's sucked.
- 24:07It's been bad. There was a brief window last
- 24:10year where you could have, you could have moved from him or
- 24:14moved him, I should say. But to your point, it guy's
- 24:19been. They're in a they're in a bad
- 24:20position because he he's been unhealthy and he's also not
- 24:24performing when he is healthy. And, you know, $20 million a
- 24:28year is not something that just like easily gets picked up when
- 24:32that's a part of the mix. So any team that's calling is
- 24:37probably telling the White Sox like, hey, like you're going to
- 24:41need to eat this, you're going to need to eat some of this.
- 24:44I'll need you to eat 8 mill a year or whatever.
- 24:47I think the fact that the contract has back-to-back, which
- 24:51I haven't, we need to figure this out eventually because this
- 24:56topic seems to come up like once a year if that club option gets
- 25:02traded with with him. Where you getting 20 million
- 25:06from? I'm seeing, I'm seeing a six
- 25:13year, 50 million, $50 million contract.
- 25:16Yeah, it's all back loaded. This year he's making 15 to next
- 25:20year he's making 202027. He's also making 20.
- 25:25It was all back loaded. Are you looking at the luxury
- 25:29tax? Are you looking at what he's
- 25:30making? Payrollannualspottrack.com.
- 25:41Oh, I see. I OK, I got you.
- 25:43Yeah. Back load.
- 25:43I see. OK.
- 25:44I see what you're saying. Yeah, Yeah.
- 25:46Yeah, 2021 you made 3 1/2, then six, then 9 1/2, then 12 1/2.
- 25:51This year it's 15, next year it's 20/20/27 is also 20.
- 25:55Then he said to be a free agent at the year 2028, thirty years
- 26:00old. I got you.
- 26:01That was on me. I was looking at the wrong spot.
- 26:02So I think they missed their window.
- 26:04I think they need to figure something out, but like, you're
- 26:07going to have to eat some money and you're not going to get the
- 26:16prospects that you want because you missed the mark here.
- 26:19You missed the window man too. Long Yeah.
- 26:23So I don't there's no like good way to to go about this.
- 26:27I don't I don't think there's a a winner in any of this.
- 26:32It's every team is probably looking at him as like a buy low
- 26:36and for $20 million that's not really buying low.
- 26:40And so it's like it's, it's the worst possible situation and
- 26:45he's playing like crap. So it's like, yeah, you're
- 26:47stuck. I.
- 26:49And but to your point, though, they did, they missed the mark,
- 26:53they missed the window. And not to rehash the whole Paul
- 26:56Skeens thing. And it's a completely different
- 26:58situation in in terms of on field talent and and value and
- 27:02finance, marketability, finances.
- 27:05No, no, it's very different. But I'm saying, but in terms,
- 27:07I'm saying in terms of front office management, does it
- 27:10surprise us that the White Sox have mismanaged Luis Robert?
- 27:14No, it shouldn't. Will it surprise us when the
- 27:17Pirates inevitably mismanaged the Paul Skeens situation?
- 27:20No, it shouldn't and it won't. So that's sort of what I was
- 27:24getting at with the Paul Skeens thing.
- 27:26But to your point with the Louise Robert thing, it's that's
- 27:28not an easy contract to move with how poorly he's been
- 27:32playing. And I'll be honest with you, my
- 27:35first thought when I read his comments are I guarantee you the
- 27:38White Sox were not happy with the fact that he's just like
- 27:42self owning. His awfulness is self owning is
- 27:47suck because they're going we are.
- 27:49We need every ounce of positive PR around your situation, like
- 27:58your potential trade package as we can.
- 28:01And you're going out. You're going out there yourself
- 28:04being like, no, no guys, other teams around the league, don't
- 28:08bother. I'm not worth it right now.
- 28:10Don't come knocking because I'm I'm not going to help.
- 28:13Yet a little reverse psychology, maybe a lot of calls will come
- 28:16in because of this. That's a very valid point, they
- 28:21said. You know what?
- 28:22But nothing's working. Just go out there, say you suck,
- 28:24and maybe, maybe we can just eat some of this contract and clean
- 28:28our hands of it and be be on our merry way.
- 28:30Yeah, yeah, I they're going to have to figure something out.
- 28:36It's going to, it's going to have to be something weird where
- 28:39he's packaged with someone or there's a lot of money that's
- 28:43being eaten. And then at the same time,
- 28:46you're like, what? I don't know why.
- 28:50Why not just wait? I wonder what, what the White
- 28:59Sox would be on the hook for if they just, I mean, nothing,
- 29:04right, $2,000,000 if they don't pick it up.
- 29:12So instead of paying him 20 next year, you're going to pay 2?
- 29:18Or is that two? Yeah, to buy it out.
- 29:22So maybe that's a part of, that's probably a good thing to
- 29:34negotiate with, say, hey, you're going to get these club options.
- 29:38It's only a $2,000,000 buyout. If he sucks the rest of the
- 29:40season, don't pick it up. You're only going to pay for
- 29:45half of this year anyway. So a $10 million, a $10 million
- 29:51rental with potential that a superstar is in there somewhere,
- 30:04was in there somewhere. I don't know if it's still
- 30:06there. He's only 28.
- 30:10And there's not a whole lot of like risk to it.
- 30:17Yeah, he's only played over 100 games once.
- 30:19I mean, I know he's he's still relatively young, but he's only
- 30:22played the one year he did play over 100 games, 145 in 2023.
- 30:27That was his his best year. That's our, we've always, we've
- 30:30always talked about this. The the lower half injuries are
- 30:32never it's there's two terrible things that you're going to
- 30:37have. It's lower half injuries or it's
- 30:40hand and wrist injuries for hitters.
- 30:42If you have any of those on your resume that doesn't doesn't
- 30:46carry a lot of water. I don't know.
- 30:51The White Sox are just delete them, delete them, move to Utah
- 31:00ho. Yeah, real quick little tangent
- 31:05I didn't get a chance to read. That article is floating around.
- 31:08What? What's the deal?
- 31:09There I I think is there mainly around the Coyotes thing because
- 31:13like the the Coyotes going to Utah and now it's the Utah
- 31:18Mammoth and that's hockey by the way.
- 31:21And then there's conversation about like Utah trying to get on
- 31:26board for this and prepping to be able to write a check for it.
- 31:30And I don't know that. For what?
- 31:32For baseball. Yeah, if if the Diamondbacks
- 31:36decide to move, if they decide to leave.
- 31:38Has there been any? Well.
- 31:40Chase Field is kind of. There's some back and forth
- 31:43about Chase Field. Oh, because of the lease, right?
- 31:46There's like a lease thing. They also want to make
- 31:49renovations and I don't think Chase Field wants to do it.
- 31:54I don't know if this city of Phoenix wants to do it.
- 31:56I don't know it's it's a very weird scenario.
- 31:59I love having ball out there in the desert.
- 32:01That's a. And I'm finally starting to get
- 32:05like on board with it. Like, it's, it's actually good
- 32:08baseball to watch. I'm like, no, don't leave.
- 32:13Be odd. So, Utah, go get the White Sox.
- 32:17Leave the Diamondbacks alone. Not a bad thought once, Juan
- 32:27Soto, we're back to this topic again.
- 32:30Gosh. Well, it's.
- 32:31Just like I feel like it is this rinse repeat.
- 32:33It's look, man, I mean, I'm I'm doing people want I'm doing what
- 32:39I can. I'm doing what I can with the
- 32:42credit cannon to really, you know, prop some people up.
- 32:46Someone just. Drove off the road.
- 32:48I'm sorry I'm. I'm really trying to use that to
- 32:51prop some people up, get some other names in there, sort of
- 32:54get some fresh blood in the end of the conversation.
- 32:57But doesn't help when you got these these mosquitoes, namely
- 33:03Bob Nutting and and the White Sox and the like that are
- 33:08always, you know, making headlines for this reason or
- 33:11that it it, it's not fun, but we got to talk about it.
- 33:17But yeah, Juan Soto, which by the way, I think I'm just going
- 33:22to, I think I officially may as I look at him on my television
- 33:28this very moment, I think this may be the the podcast where I
- 33:33I, you're. Calling it.
- 33:34I turn I, I think I've really I, yeah, I, I was a big fan of his
- 33:40in DC. Naturally, I was able to watch
- 33:42him a lot when he was out here. But then the IT was really just
- 33:50the progression of to Padres, to Yankees, to Mets, where
- 33:56something, something about the, the Juan Soto narrative really
- 34:01seemed to accelerate. And I started, I started keeping
- 34:04a closer eye on just like how he was handling himself.
- 34:08And I got to say, not a big fan. I think I mentioned it last
- 34:14episode the the the ego. I think hey, shout out speaking
- 34:20and Speaking of the national shout out James Wood fan love
- 34:23that on YouTube dropping in with a little hello James Wood fan.
- 34:28Now you want to talk about an outfielder for the Nationals
- 34:30that I'm a big fan of. Stud.
- 34:33James Wood. Stud.
- 34:36So much a fan that I decided to capitalize on his value and
- 34:41trade him away before the season started in fantasy.
- 34:43But it's neither here nor there. Now he's on my team.
- 34:46Yeah, I don't like it. I.
- 34:48Get postponed games in fantasy so often.
- 34:53I don't know if it's just me, but I lost him and CJ Abrams
- 34:58tonight to a postponement. Love, love some love some James
- 35:04Wood. So shout out James Wood fan in
- 35:06the chat, but no Juan Soto. There's just I really think and
- 35:12who who am IA mere man to sit here and judge another for maybe
- 35:18feeling a little bit more self-righteous when it comes to
- 35:25being at the center of attention for the last year with the I
- 35:30mean really, obviously longer than that, but truly under the
- 35:34microscope for the last year with his free agency.
- 35:39And then the contract negotiations go down and then
- 35:43the sign, the signing with the Mets and everything that came
- 35:47with that and just the, and not to keep rehashing this, but like
- 35:52the whole the the sweet thing and the family shopping spree
- 35:55money and the the comments here and there.
- 36:02I'm I just feel like I'm out. I just feel like I'm kind of out
- 36:05on the Soto thing. Do I still think he's a
- 36:07generational talent? I said that last episode.
- 36:09Yes I do and I'm not. It's.
- 36:11Unlikeable anymore. I'm not coming.
- 36:13Yeah, I'm not coming off of that stance.
- 36:14But it to me he's just not, I don't know.
- 36:19I just it's really hard for me to to really buy into the the
- 36:25Juan Soto likeable movement. But all I'm just saying the.
- 36:32Mets didn't help. It's be real.
- 36:34Yeah, which, hey, shout out to the Mets, just took a series
- 36:39from you. Granted, we just dropped the
- 36:41game tonight, but enjoy. Enjoy the flight home.
- 36:47Anyway, the reason we're talking about Juan Soto is because he
- 36:50caught some Flack in this series against the Red Sox Monday
- 36:56night, I believe, for a lack of hustling.
- 37:00And boy, I tell you what, I don't think I understood or was
- 37:05aware of how many people have just normalized not running
- 37:17after hitting a baseball. I am blown.
- 37:20I was blown away. And how many people were just
- 37:24like, So what I'm like, like, don't try, no, don't try to pin
- 37:32this on me. Is it being like a boomer take?
- 37:34It's literally what you are supposed to do.
- 37:39You're supposed to hit the ball and run to the next base.
- 37:45He didn't do that because he was watching the ball that he hit
- 37:52that he thought was going over the Green Monster, but ended up
- 37:56going halfway up. The monster made it to made it
- 38:00to 1st, and if he was saying, well, he made it to second, he
- 38:03stole the next pitch. Big deal.
- 38:05OK, And what if he didn't? OK, what if the situation's
- 38:09different? What if he ends up being the go
- 38:11ahead run in the ninth inning and ultimately doesn't score to
- 38:15help the Mets win a game? It didn't happen that way.
- 38:19But I'm just saying what if, and I'm almost certain this is not
- 38:23going to be the last time that this happens, Juan Soto.
- 38:25And for the people that are saying, well, this happens to so
- 38:28many other players, it happened to Pete Alonso in the same game,
- 38:31I understand that. But the difference there is that
- 38:35those players aren't the highest paid player in baseball,
- 38:38$765,000,000. And those players also aren't
- 38:43the ones after the game when interviewed about this very
- 38:46issue, saying, well, if you looked at the hustle, you'd see
- 38:49that. You'd see that I was hustling
- 38:51tonight. Well, Juan, you.
- 38:53Weren't. That's a weird comment.
- 38:55What a weird response. Not a deflection, not a hey,
- 39:00what are you even talking about? It's AII was hustling.
- 39:04I don't know what game you're watching, buddy, but I was.
- 39:08I was. I was moving out there.
- 39:11No, you weren't, Juan. Scale, Scale of one to 10.
- 39:17One being I, I, I'm buying a house in the middle of Queens
- 39:27and I'm never leaving for the rest of my life. 10 being I'm
- 39:31going to contact anyone and everyone to find a time machine
- 39:34to go back. How much does he regret signing
- 39:38this contract with the Mets right now, at this moment,
- 39:42current moment? He wants Soto 1000% will not end
- 39:51this contract as a met 1000%. This is not going to age well.
- 39:57This is not going to age well. This is going to be, if you
- 40:03remember when Bryce Harper signed the contract that he did
- 40:07with the no trade clause, excuse me, the no opt outs people are
- 40:13going, there's no way this ages well.
- 40:15I think at this point in his tenure with the Phillies, you
- 40:17can pretty safely say. That he's going to stay there
- 40:23for the remainder of the time that slept on that contract.
- 40:25Yeah, Juan Soto, you can very clearly tell.
- 40:30And I, I look hand up, I acknowledge that a great deal of
- 40:34this, maybe not a great deal, but a a good portion of what's
- 40:39going on with Juan Soto is certainly being pumped and
- 40:43fueled by the media. I'm I'm not naive enough to
- 40:45think that that's not the case. They're it's New York.
- 40:48They're absolutely pumping this and milkiness for every many
- 40:51that it that it's worth. I understand that, but I think
- 40:57you just look at the pieces to the puzzle that exists right now
- 41:02and you can pretty easily reach the conclusion that Juan Soto is
- 41:08not, when it's all said and done, is not going to truly
- 41:12enjoy or or reap the benefits of what he thought this contract
- 41:19was going to offer him. Because he's going, yeah, the
- 41:22money is great. But boy, I tell you what, my
- 41:25career numbers would would have looked a lot better at XYZ,
- 41:28wherever that would be, whether it's the Yankees or elsewhere.
- 41:32And I think at a certain point the like, you have so much
- 41:38money, Juan Soto. And and I'm not going to sit
- 41:41here and pretend like, oh, I know what I would do with that
- 41:43money or I know how I would behave if I had that money.
- 41:46But at a certain point, you got to think with that much money
- 41:50still this young in his career or this early in his career,
- 41:55he's probably going to be longing for more once the, once
- 41:58the, the, the shininess of the coin, if you will, sort of wears
- 42:04off. And he's going OK at $765
- 42:06million. This is great.
- 42:08But you're looking around the league.
- 42:10Wow, it looks like Aaron Judge is having a lot more fun back,
- 42:13back over in the Bronx or so. And so is having a lot more fun
- 42:16at wherever I, I, I don't think as I mentioned, combined with
- 42:22the media there in New York, they're not going to make this
- 42:24situation any easier. I think when it's all said and
- 42:27done that he's going to long way of answering your question.
- 42:30I think he's very strongly going to regret this and I couldn't.
- 42:34I can almost guarantee you that he will not finish his contract,
- 42:37isn't it? You're going to give me a
- 42:40number? Which end is?
- 42:46Which end? One is he couldn't be happier.
- 42:5110 is. I wish I'd go back in time.
- 42:57You're asking me how he feels like right now.
- 43:00I'd give you like, I'd give you a 75 and I think it's only going
- 43:07to go up. I think that's a fair number.
- 43:12I think something to also talk about right now is the fact that
- 43:15like they're in first place and they're one of the best teams in
- 43:20baseball and this is what we're talking about.
- 43:24This is what the media is talking about.
- 43:30We can't just slap a winning cures all on this.
- 43:35Good point. And we might be able to by the
- 43:37end of the season, but what does this say to your team?
- 43:42Like I, I get who you are. I get your talent, But like, you
- 43:47just got here. You have a guy that's begging,
- 43:52that's pounding on the door all offseason, begging to get
- 43:56resigned. I love it here.
- 43:58I don't want to wear any other uniform.
- 44:01Please take me back. You have another guy who is, for
- 44:07some would argue, in MVP conversations regularly in
- 44:11Frankie Lindor, who plays every day, who hustles every day,
- 44:19who's been there for a little bit.
- 44:23You just got here and this is what we're talking about.
- 44:27Then winning isn't curing this. I said it didn't look quite
- 44:35right when he showed up at Yankee Stadium.
- 44:40I said it seems like he was trying to play it off.
- 44:44It seems like it did bug him and now it's kind of carried over to
- 44:52this point where like I think we did, we forget he was a Met for
- 44:58the first couple months. Now we're seeing a downside of
- 45:05him not playing well. Now we're seeing them in a
- 45:07little bit of a skid. Drop 2 out of three to the
- 45:10Yanks, drop 2 out of three to the Red Sox, and you're like.
- 45:13Huh. He's not playing so great if you
- 45:17look at the numbers and he's not hustling and he just got here.
- 45:23Like there's got to be this level of like, I'm, I know I'm
- 45:26the highest paid guy in the room, but I want to earn my spot
- 45:29here. I want to earn not just my
- 45:33teammates respect, my organization's respect, my
- 45:35fanbase's respect. It's not just gifted.
- 45:40It's not just granted to you. And I think that what he saw in
- 45:46Yankee Stadium was like, I've spent my whole career beloved
- 45:52everywhere I went. And now that's not really the
- 45:54case. Now I've burned bridges and I'm
- 46:00playing for a team that everyone hates and they don't even like
- 46:02me that much right right now. How do I, how do I contest that?
- 46:12Bust your butt dude. Run hard, put in effort.
- 46:18You hitting 265 doesn't look so bad when you're busting it down
- 46:22the line when you're laying out in the field.
- 46:28We have jogging on double plays where the guy on 3rd we have
- 46:34jogging in the outfield. You already suck in the
- 46:37outfield. At least you could do is the
- 46:40least you could do is just run and try to hunt some balls down.
- 46:47I think I, I think what we watched him experience in Yankee
- 46:53Stadium this past week has unlocked something that we've
- 46:59never seen in Juan Soto before. And it's a not, it's not a good
- 47:03thing. It's I think it's kind of a dark
- 47:05side. I think it's kind of a strange
- 47:08uncharted territory for him, and I'm curious to see how it
- 47:13continues. Do I think the Mets are fine
- 47:17this year? Yeah.
- 47:18Do I think he'll end up hitting thirty home runs and over 290?
- 47:25Yeah. Do I think he's going to walk a
- 47:28ton and have a crazy good OPS? Yeah.
- 47:35Will the narrative of him being unhappy change anytime soon?
- 47:41I don't know. And he doesn't have a very good
- 47:43poker face. All of what you just described,
- 47:51you're 1 of I. Don't know 15, not even we're
- 47:56two months in 15 and it's not it's not going to change like
- 48:03you better, you better figure out how to flip the script then
- 48:07be the ultimate villain. That's my that's my opinion on
- 48:10this. If you're going to be looked at
- 48:12and viewed as a villain, then be a villain and get good at it
- 48:19because you smiling and thinking everyone loves you.
- 48:24Ship a sail, dude, turn into a villain, be the bad guy.
- 48:33That's the only way to save it in my mind and watch the Mets
- 48:37rail at rally around that, you know what I'm saying?
- 48:39I don't hate it. I think that's the only way to
- 48:41do it. Don't hate it, Will Benson
- 48:51leading off this week's edition of the Credit Canon segment.
- 48:58Will Benson, my dude, hitting 478, 5 homers, 10 ribbies, and
- 49:07an OPS of 1773 over his last eight games.
- 49:17I know it's a small sample size, but 1773?
- 49:23Like we're approaching American Independence territory there.
- 49:27That's insane. Will Benson has the high, as you
- 49:31would very easily imagine, has the highest OPS in the month of
- 49:35May in Major League Baseball. The the question I have for our
- 49:42beloved Tito Francona is why he's been on the bench for the
- 49:48last two games. Didn't he may have gotten in as
- 49:52like a late inning guy yesterday, but today I, I mean,
- 49:56neither of the last two games has he started in.
- 50:00And sure enough in those two games yesterday and today, the
- 50:04Reds lose 1 nothing and 3:00 to 1:00.
- 50:07And from everything that I'm I've gathered from Reds fans, he
- 50:10is their only true offense right now, like exceptional offense.
- 50:16And so when you're losing games that close where he could
- 50:19presumably make a difference, like I'm unless I'm missing
- 50:22something like unless there was like maybe a small tweak, but I
- 50:27haven't heard anything about that otherwise.
- 50:28So I'm just assuming that it's a it's an alignment thing.
- 50:33It's a match up thing. I don't know, but dude's been
- 50:36tearing it up. So not to.
- 50:38And that that's obviously that doesn't reflect on him.
- 50:40That's maybe just a decision from up.
- 50:42Top, but it's kind of more on Tito.
- 50:44Yeah, otherwise, dude's been tearing it up these last couple
- 50:47weeks. So good.
- 50:48Unwill, Benson. The ball he hit in Cincinnati
- 50:50the other day was like I, yeah, there are sometimes where you
- 50:55just you see someone hit and it like it's a little jaw-dropping.
- 50:58That was wow. That was wow.
- 51:02Where he like he walked, he strolled after he hit.
- 51:06That ball was nuts anyway. He can get, he can get into it.
- 51:10Next up, Riley Green hitting 444, three homers, 9 ribbies and
- 51:18an OPS of 1426 over his last over the last week according to
- 51:24Detroit Tigers PR on Twitter, since April 7th and this is
- 51:29coming into Wednesday. Since April 17th, Riley Green is
- 51:32hitting 333 with nine home runs, 29 RBIs and a 1006 OPS.
- 51:39Over that span he has tied for the American League lead in
- 51:42homers while ranking second in RBI, third in OPS, and tied for
- 51:47fifth in average on the season. His 1.5 F 4 ranked sixth among
- 51:52AL outfielders. That's good company.
- 51:55American League outfielders, that's good company.
- 51:58According to database Hit on Twitter Riley Green in the month
- 52:01of May he's slashing 333-390-7680 to six homers which
- 52:06is tied for the 4th most, 18 RBIs tied for the third most,
- 52:11and then WRC plus of two O 6 which is 6th.
- 52:16His six home runs this month has tied his career high dating back
- 52:22to April or matching his his total from April of last season.
- 52:29Best regular in baseball and this guy wasn't even right yet.
- 52:33Now that he's getting right. Lookout bro.
- 52:39Lookout times are coming, man. I'm in it.
- 52:43What do you mean they've already?
- 52:44They're already here. Nah.
- 52:45I mean, they're like, I think this is going to be, this is
- 52:49going to be start of something for a while. 33 and 17 coming
- 52:55into today. Or this is going to be a thing
- 52:58for a minute. Maybe after today.
- 53:00Did they already play today anyway?
- 53:03Yeah. That not to not to sound like a
- 53:07broken record, but that American League Central is gross.
- 53:10Like so good that it makes up for the the trash that is the
- 53:14Chicago White Sox. Like the Guardians are in fourth
- 53:18at 26 and 22. They would be second in the
- 53:21American League East, second in the W, 3rd in the NL E Like
- 53:27pretty much anywhere else in baseball, you're going to be in
- 53:29a, in a contending spot in your respective division and they're
- 53:324th and they're only, they're only what, half a game back from
- 53:39the Royals it looks like. Who were in 3rd?
- 53:42Who were they were? They were that was my division
- 53:45winning team this year. So I'm going to need the Royals
- 53:47to figure out how to hit a baseball.
- 53:52That's also like a whole another thing too, says.
- 53:54Like the fact that they're still in the hunt and they're not
- 53:58hitting. Yeah is crazy.
- 54:00Yeah, that's a damn good team too.
- 54:03Shout out to the royal. Shout out.
- 54:04Shut up, Bobby Witt. Always.
- 54:08And shout out to his teammate. Look out Chris Boobich.
- 54:22Craziest season Last name. Chris Boobitch two, and O with
- 54:33an ERAF .44 with 21 strikeouts in his last three starts since
- 54:39May 8th, according to underdog MLB.
- 54:42Chris Boobitch this season. 61 in the 3rd. 61 strikeouts of ERA
- 54:49of 147, A WHIP of one O 6. The second lowest ERA through 10
- 54:54starts in a season in Royals history.
- 54:58Dang dude, that's a nugget. That's a breakout season it.
- 55:04Sure is. That's a nugget right there.
- 55:09Hail central, bro. Good ball out there.
- 55:12Good, good ball out there in the Midwest.
- 55:17Some mighty fine baseball being played out there in the Midwest.
- 55:21Some blue collar baseball, you know.
- 55:24Just some hard nosed, hit the grindstone, old fashioned
- 55:31hardball kind of baseball that's right being played out there in
- 55:35those fly over states. Working with your hands getting
- 55:39dirty. You know the lunch.
- 55:41Pail. That's right, going home.
- 55:45After a hard day's work cracking a.
- 55:47Cold one flipping on the tube. Probably repair something when
- 55:52they got home. Probably.
- 55:53Fix something? Yeah.
- 55:55That's what they're hold a hold a baby in one arm fix.
- 55:58Fix the sink in the other. I mean, that's.
- 56:03Just that's. That's that's what they do in
- 56:05the that's central baseball. Yeah, right now that's what
- 56:09we're talking about. Bring it back out east, though.
- 56:15Jesus. Lazardo.
- 56:17Two and O with an ERA of 138 and 16 strikeouts over his last two
- 56:22starts. Optistats says that since ERA
- 56:27became official in both leagues in 1913, two MLB lefties have
- 56:31gone undefeated with a sub 2 and 10 + K per nine over their first
- 56:37ten starts of a season. 1 is the Phillies.
- 56:42Jesus Lozardo this year the other.
- 56:46Any guesses? I know you weren't listening.
- 56:52To me. So just throw out a.
- 56:53Really. Jason Dominguez just hit a walk.
- 56:55Off to the second deck. That's great.
- 56:58Throw out throw. Out just really good lefties.
- 57:02Really good lefties from what era?
- 57:06Since. 1913. Oh boy, give me Randy.
- 57:10Johnson. The other was Randy Johnson.
- 57:13Here's a little, let's go. Here's a little like satellite
- 57:18credit cannon for Randy Johnson. Little little little secondary
- 57:26credit cannon for old Randy. Yeah.
- 57:30Other was Randy Johnson, 1995. S Jesus Cesaro was in good
- 57:34company with the start that he's had this year and by the way,
- 57:40leads pitchers. In both the.
- 57:45American League and the National League in war to date and by
- 57:51the. Way second on that list.
- 57:53Oh Jesus, Lizardo, 29, second on that list at 28.
- 58:00Chris Boobich ahead of Hunter Brown in 3rd place Max.
- 58:07Frieden 4th Zach William 5th Yeah, just a good a good start
- 58:13for the for the lefty on the year.
- 58:16As I mentioned, A29 war five and O to start the year 195 ERA and
- 58:21a whip of. 115. I think it's weird man.
- 58:25I I think the. Phillies are going to have to
- 58:27get creative with with filling in some of their gaps because of
- 58:30their rotational depth. I it makes me wonder if they
- 58:34move somebody from that rotation to to fill in other spots.
- 58:38And I don't know what that looks like, but they have they're
- 58:43just. So deep rotation.
- 58:45Wise that you're like and your bullpen just lost a huge piece.
- 58:51He needs some more. Athleticism in the lineup, I.
- 58:53They they got to tweak something a little bit.
- 58:57I'm just really, really interested to see what they do
- 59:00come deadline time. Good for Lizardo too.
- 59:05Love to see guys that shine for some garbage organization that
- 59:09go and and like prove that that was real somewhere else where it
- 59:13matters. Yeah.
- 59:15I mean, you know, a guy that could really.
- 59:16Benefit from from a change like that.
- 59:22Anyway, next cannon actually. No, you know what?
- 59:25That that wraps up the credit cannon, but transition here to
- 59:30closing the book. Let's just keep it rolling.
- 59:33Jared Jones. No, no, I can't mean that's mean
- 59:37that's mean that's mean. Well, I mean look, and nobody
- 59:42was a bigger Jared Jones fan coming into the season than than
- 59:45I, but will actually, no, already underwent.
- 59:51I think it was today, right? Underwent surgery today.
- 59:54It wasn't TJ. Was it not?
- 59:59Was it one of those? Are you sure?
- 1:00:04Yeah, it was a UCL sprain. Yeah, it was like the.
- 1:00:09The what do they call it? It's like an an alternative.
- 1:00:15Like the the brace? Thing like the brace, internal
- 1:00:17brace, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not TJI, don't know what that.
- 1:00:22Means it's still surgery still. Out for the year, How positive
- 1:00:25are we on that? Yep, you're right, internal
- 1:00:28brace surgery was successful is already eye in a return will be
- 1:00:34back in 2026. You hate to.
- 1:00:39See it? Man, I was really.
- 1:00:41Really hoping to catch some some Jared Jones starts this year I
- 1:00:45thought. I thought the tandem of him and
- 1:00:47Skins was going to be just downright electric, especially
- 1:00:52with. Both of them building off of.
- 1:00:54Great years last year but the last was on track by the way to
- 1:01:01come to make it back this year he had been shut down but it was
- 1:01:06the when they started extending him distance wise that's when he
- 1:01:09started feeling a little discomfort which never good
- 1:01:13shout out bridge to. Bucktober, he's, he's always
- 1:01:16kind of giving us the pirates updates.
- 1:01:18I, I heard that there was like some his dad was kind of
- 1:01:23involved with this decision a lot and there was a lot of like
- 1:01:26back and forth on surgery or not surgery or not rehab the brace
- 1:01:33surgery or TJ like it's been a lot and like honestly, it's just
- 1:01:38a lot of wasted time. Well, you know why you got to
- 1:01:40bring? I mean, even.
- 1:01:41As a professional athlete, you got to bring dad in because you
- 1:01:44got to bring dad in. Surely that front office.
- 1:01:46Isn't going to. Lead you in the right direction.
- 1:01:48So yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:50Dad, what do you think? Yeah, 'cause my front office
- 1:01:54sucks. Yeah, last item here.
- 1:01:58Kyle Schwarber, 3 hundredth Homer on Monday night in Coors.
- 1:02:03An absolute tank. 4. 100 And spare me the Coors Field effect.
- 1:02:11I don't care. It was a moon shot.
- 1:02:13That's what Kyle Schwarber does 466 feet off the facade of the
- 1:02:18third deck. 32 Come on. Really. 32 yeah, 32 and turn 32
- 1:02:33in March. It's that contract.
- 1:02:37Like, is he supposed to be a free agent?
- 1:02:38Next year. I think so because I'm seeing.
- 1:02:43A lot of Phillies fans clamoring to keep him around, which,
- 1:02:46rightfully so, they should. How?
- 1:02:49How big an idiot you got to? He gets paid at 32.
- 1:02:53He's going to get paid, Yeah. And especially knowing.
- 1:02:56His profile at this point in his career, like, you know, you know
- 1:02:59exactly what you're getting. So if it if having 40 bombs in
- 1:03:05your lineup appeals to you, then sign up.
- 1:03:10Sign up to to join the Kyle Schwarber sweepstakes.
- 1:03:17How much idiots do you think the Cubs feel?
- 1:03:22That didn't make any sense. How big?
- 1:03:24Of idiots. Do you feel like the Cubs feel
- 1:03:27like right now? Words.
- 1:03:33Words are tough. It's been a long day.
- 1:03:35It has which? I'm not going to lie, not great.
- 1:03:39I'm. Going to say not great when he
- 1:03:40was in. Chicago I could have.
- 1:03:42Sworn he was like 35. Yeah, I did too.
- 1:03:46Yeah, right. When you said 32, I was like,
- 1:03:49Nah, come on. And here we are, like a decade
- 1:03:51later and. He's 32, so that math's not math
- 1:03:54then. But anyway, yeah, to answer your
- 1:03:56question, I I think he gets paid whether or not Big Davey D.
- 1:04:02Is going to pony up. That's yet to be determined, but
- 1:04:05I I think you can do it for cheap.
- 1:04:07I think you if you. Tack on two years.
- 1:04:11To let him finish. As a as a Philly, they love them
- 1:04:15there. Dude what?
- 1:04:16Just it's. It's there's there's certain
- 1:04:18guys where it's so sick, like it's so clear cut, like this is
- 1:04:21what you need to do. Just make it happen.
- 1:04:23Six years. Give him six years that that
- 1:04:27sounds. Good to me, I would.
- 1:04:28Make that give him six years. Anywhere from 1:00 to 1:20.
- 1:04:34I think that gets it done because I don't think anyone
- 1:04:37else in the market has given him more than four years.
- 1:04:42Yeah, that's fair. Six years.
- 1:04:45We'll ride it out for the. Last couple years where it's
- 1:04:48probably not going to be great, but like you're you're going to
- 1:04:51get close to 500 home runs at that point and we're going to
- 1:04:53celebrate you and you're going to retire Philly and it you ride
- 1:04:57off into the sunset. That's that's what's wrong with
- 1:05:00that. And again talking about this
- 1:05:02window. With that, the Phillies are
- 1:05:05seemingly up against yeah a closing window with that dare I
- 1:05:09say you need this, you need all the support you can get and if
- 1:05:13again the the power that he provides that line up is going
- 1:05:15to help you, which it most certainly will it has to this
- 1:05:19point. Why not keep it around?
- 1:05:21Keep him around so David D get it done.
- 1:05:26Make this man a A. Philly for the remainder of his.
- 1:05:28Career and celebrate 500 down the road.
- 1:05:35Oh yeah. It's good.
- 1:05:38Sorry, I was in a rather. Talkative mood today.
- 1:05:40Sorry for just rambling as much as I did, but the rambling man.
- 1:05:46But here we are. The Allman Brothers, by the way.
- 1:05:49It's the it's the group that sings that song.
- 1:05:51It's a great ditty for, for those who are uncultured and
- 1:05:54don't know. Yeah, I, I'm out of here too.
- 1:05:58I got to go study. You got to go to bed.
- 1:06:02Simple enough, you've been working for like 17.
- 1:06:04Hours. It's been a long day, yeah.
- 1:06:07But that's what we do. We're here.
- 1:06:08We. Deliver.
- 1:06:09We're here and we deliver. We deliver.
- 1:06:14We're like we're. Like FedEx?
- 1:06:19Yeah, I feel. Like UPS is probably, I feel
- 1:06:23like they probably or DHL. Even I don't know.
- 1:06:27Is DHL still doing it bro? DHL is still doing it.
- 1:06:32For who? I just, I don't know who's using
- 1:06:36that. Not me, if I ever have.
- 1:06:37A choice. I'm all about what Brown can do
- 1:06:40for you. What, They still got those?
- 1:06:43Little vans, they don't even drive the trucks man DHL is like
- 1:06:46Nah. We're going to keep it
- 1:06:48efficient. We're going to keep it with the
- 1:06:50vans. I feel like they're always,
- 1:06:52they're delivering like frozen foods, you know what I mean?
- 1:06:54Like it's like weird, like weird one off scenarios where you're
- 1:06:59like I I'm going to order a cheesecake from Chicago.
- 1:07:03What? I'm going to use DHL and you
- 1:07:05know what they do? They deliver.
- 1:07:07And it probably shows up perfect.
- 1:07:08That's us. We're the DHL of the podcast
- 1:07:11game well. We can talk about it.
- 1:07:16It's up for grabs. We can talk about.
- 1:07:17It yeah, expect us Monday, correct not.
- 1:07:25Sunday Papa's going to. Be up in Denver visiting some.
- 1:07:30Fam catching the. Yankees, Rockies on Saturday if
- 1:07:33you're in Coors Field. Let's let's hang out.
- 1:07:38Let's. Well, if you're in the.
- 1:07:39Field if you're in the. Field get help because it sounds
- 1:07:43like that's a dangerous situation, but you're in it if
- 1:07:46you're at there's a big fear to get buried alive, but.
- 1:07:50If you're there, if you're in the stadium, if you're in the,
- 1:07:52if you're in the situation, you want to come say hi, come say
- 1:07:57hi. We'll see him one day.
- 1:08:04I don't know. I'm out.
- 1:08:05I'm done. I got to go study.
- 1:08:07This is crazy. I'm a grown man.
- 1:08:08Yeah. You're the one still talking,
- 1:08:10man. Do you got?
- 1:08:11Do you got to study? I'm getting delirious
- 1:08:14curveballs. If you see them.
- 1:08:17Typically you don't want to chase them.
- 1:08:21We love you all and as always, looking forward to talking more.
- 1:08:22Baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
