  outside want to talk about the winter warm up.

  Clearly I'm not at the winter warm up, so I don't want to

  pretend like I'm at the winter warm up, but I want to talk

  about some things that I read and heard and saw at the winter
• 0:24
  warm up little breakdown and we'll kind of go go backwards.

  So I'll start with yesterday stuff.

  John Mozalak did his press conference.

  It was about 32 minutes. My guy Kyle Reese, who has

  contributed to this YouTube channel several times in the
• 0:41
  past, he has these all on Twitter.

  He live streamed him. So I just listened to that,

  watch that and there was some interesting things from it.

  I think a lot of things John Mozalak has already said, but
• 0:56
  the fact that he said, look, they're they're not necessarily
• 0:59
  done. There's there's room in the
• 1:01
  budget. If if something comes across the
• 1:04
  table, nothing is off the table. So that could be relief
• 1:09
  pitchers. In theory, that could be
• 1:11
  starting pitchers. I would think maybe they add one
• 1:14
  more reliever, but look, they're still they're still technically
• 1:17
  open for business as a person who loved the TV show
• 1:22
  succession. Maybe, maybe my favorite show in
• 1:25
  recent years, succession. I think that may be the story at
• 1:29
  least of of Saturday at winter warm up in terms of John Mosalak
• 1:34
  2 years from now and whatever could potentially happen with
• 1:38
  the field manager of course with Ollie Mole.

  To me, the John Mosalak thing is more interesting.

  With Ollie Mole I I actually don't think Ollie Mole is going
• 1:49
  to be let go at the end of this year.

  This is my opinion. I I think the Cardinals are
• 1:54
  going to be good enough to sniff the playoffs, maybe make the
• 1:59
  playoffs. I think in a perfect world John

  was a lock and the Cardinals front office, they want to keep

  Ollie. I think it's smart that they did
• 2:06
  not give him a contract extension yet.

  So here he is in his last year. You can call it a lame duck

  year, but I think he has to prove himself and if Ollie
• 2:15
  proves himself, if the team has a good year, I think Ollie will
• 2:18
  get a contract extension at some point and we won't talk about
• 2:22
  that as much. Now.

  Of course the Yadi or Molina story there, Daniel Discalzo,
• 2:29
  but more so Yadi. We know Yadi wants to be a
• 2:31
  manager. That gets really interesting if
• 2:34
  the Cardinals are bad again and we start to to talk about Yadi
• 2:39
  and maybe fans are clamoring even more so for Yadi or Molina
• 2:43
  who now works as what is he a assistant?
• 2:46
  Whatever his role is and John Mozelak talked about that, he
• 2:48
  thinks in the end Yadi will probably be with the coaching
• 2:50
  staff more but they'll figure all that out.

  And Mozelak said he'll talk to Yadi when Yadi is done in Puerto
• 2:57
  Rico. But we'll see.

  So if the Cardinals are bad all of a sudden the the noise for
• 3:03
  Yadi is going to get real, real loud.

  We'll see what happens there. But I think 2 years from now is
• 3:09
  more interesting and look, that's a long time away.

  But, but again, this is winter warm up.

  There's not a lot of new news. But John Mozalak was asked, hey,

  is it still your plans you think to to step down two years from
• 3:23
  now at the end of this deal And he said that's that's what he
• 3:26
  sees happening. So two years from now you would
• 3:30
  just think you would think John Mozalak has some type of new
• 3:33
  role with with the Cardinals. I don't know what it is, but two
• 3:37
  years from now there's probably a new president of baseball
• 3:41
  operations, and that's what I think is really, really
• 3:43
  interesting. And he was asked about Hein
• 3:44
  Bloom and he he did say that, look, he did bounce off some of
• 3:50
  these trades. You know, it's not a
• 3:52
  coincidence, let's be honest. Let's be honest, in terms of the
• 3:56
  deals you made with the Rays, with the Red Sox for Tyler
• 4:00
  O'Neill, even with the Riley O'Brien of the the Mariners,
• 4:04
  that these are guys that that Hein Bloom all knows of, worked
• 4:09
  with, either drafted or or oversaw with the Rays and the
• 4:14
  Red Sox. Now Andrew Kittredge, he's a
• 4:16
  known commodity. So look, I I think the Cardinals
• 4:19
  brass has a pretty good idea of what Andrew Kittredge is.

  But when you look at maybe an undervalued pitcher like a Riley
• 4:25
  O'Brien with the with the Mariners and more so though the
• 4:28
  Red Sox deal. To me that's the one where look
• 4:33
  Hind Bloom was just the chief baseball officer of the Red Sox.

  So if you're going to make a deal with the Red Sox think
• 4:40
  about it. There are guys in that
• 4:42
  organization that Hind Bloom likes better than other
• 4:44
  pitchers. Hey, who do you who do you like?
• 4:46
  Hey, who's who's overrated, who's who's underrated.
• 4:49
  OK, Cardinals make a deal. They trade Tyler O'Neill.
• 4:53
  They get Nick Robertson who could be a big league reliever
• 4:55
  this year. They get Victor Santos who is a
• 4:57
  minor league starter. And and you would just think
• 5:03
  that those are a couple guys that Heinblum has seen just
• 5:07
  several months ago. Remember Heinblum was just fired
• 5:10
  what in September whenever it was.
• 5:12
  So you would think those are guys that and John was a like I
• 5:15
  said hey I I bounce these ideas, these trades off of Heinblum.
• 5:18
  You would think those are a couple guys that Heinblum is
• 5:20
  probably high on or or maybe has value with a Nick Robertson and
• 5:25
  and who knows with Victor Santos.

  But John Mozelac went on to say, look, I think people are
• 5:31
  probably jumping to conclusions a little too much in terms of
• 5:34
  hind Bloom potentially taking over in a in a couple years.

  And he said I'm paraphrasing here, but I just listened to
• 5:40
  this and he said at at minimum or at the least, he improves the
• 5:45
  bench, he improves the depth of the front office.

  And then John Mozelac went on to make sure that he also mentioned
• 5:52
  of course Mike Gersch who's been in the organization for a long
• 5:56
  time. As we all know he's the general
• 5:58
  manager now as MO is the president of baseball

  operations. And then MO also mentioned Randy
• 6:03
  Flores who has done a great job with the draft and he called
• 6:06
  him, I believe a a riser or high riser whatever the exact word
• 6:09
  is, but somebody who's an up and Comer and and a lot of people
• 6:12
  are looking at you know that he's doing a great job with the
• 6:14
  draft. So I just, I I think that's an
• 6:17
  interesting storyline. It's more, it's more for two
• 6:20
  years from now. But knowing the Cardinals also,
• 6:23
  I think the succession plan would probably be put into place
• 6:28
  next year after this year. And I'm not saying that the
• 6:31
  Cardinals are going to announce after this year.
• 6:33
  Hey, Mike Gersh gets the job or Hein Bloom gets the job or Randy
• 6:37
  Flores gets the job. But I would think they have an
• 6:39
  idea of who who is going to get the job because also look, these
• 6:44
  are guys that a lot of other organizations are, are going to
• 6:47
  be continuing to be interested in.

  So a year from now, if the Cardinals decision is, hey, we
• 6:53
  want to go with Hein Bloom, well, they're going to let Hein
• 6:56
  Bloom know that hey, you're the you're the next in line.

  Or if it's Michael Gersh or if it's Randy Flores, let's let's
• 7:01
  say next winter Flores or Gersh gets an interview for a for a
• 7:08
  president of baseball operations or a or a number one position.

  I'm talking with another team. Well, I don't think the

  Cardinals are going to let those guys walk out the door if they
• 7:17
  want one of them to be the guy with the Cardinals.

  That's all I'm saying. So I think that's very

  interesting. It's more for two years from now

  or for next winter. But look Hind Bloom is is a guy

  who kind of now is in the mix. I think everybody would say

  before a month ago or so, hey, next couple years when when

  Mosalak steps down, it's going to be, I think I was thinking it

  would be Randy Flores personal, but it would be either Randy
• 7:46
  Flores or Michael Gersh. I think most people thought
• 7:49
  about that's that's what it's going to be.

  Are the Cards going to go outside the organization?

  They don't usually do that. But then Heim Bloom is now in
• 7:55
  the mix. So I think it's fair to say

  whoever is the next president of baseball operations is probably

  one of those three guys now. Heim Bloom, Michael Gersh, Randy

  Flores. So to me those are the
• 8:08
  interesting things from Moe's presser.

  Another comment I saw that was getting a lot of traction on

  Twitter, X, excuse me, was Sonny Gray saying that when he talked

  with John Mozalak, Sonny Grave was suggesting things about
• 8:24
  pitching and John Mozelak was saying tell me more and and
• 8:28
  maybe we can add that. And Sonny Graven said that maybe
• 8:31
  the Cardinals added a couple hires to their pitching
• 8:34
  department. So a lot of people I saw took
• 8:38
  that as a big embarrassment to the Cardinals and I and I
• 8:40
  understand why. But the Cardinals have also been
• 8:42
  on record saying recently here that they have fallen behind in
• 8:47
  terms of the Pitch Lab and everything to go with developing
• 8:51
  pitching. And that's another big reason
• 8:53
  you bring on Heim Bloom. He's known as the pitching guru.
• 8:56
  And then I don't mean to always go back to Heim Bloom.
• 8:59
  But also, this isn't some big conspiracy theory, because look,

  Heim Bloom was just let go in September.
• 9:04
  So if Hein Bloom's not available, he's not with the
• 9:06
  Cardinals. He became available because he
• 9:08
  was fired by the Boston Red Sox. I'm sure Hein Bloom didn't want
• 9:11
  to be fired by the Boston Red Sox, but just that whole idea of
• 9:15
  a pitch lab and that the Cardinals have fallen behind in
• 9:18
  terms of developing pitching, which is very obvious, we all
• 9:21
  know that because the Cardinals were amazing at doing that for
• 9:25
  that run. 2011 to 2015, they've fallen behind.

  And even a couple guys you did either draft or develop.

  Sandy, El Contra, Zach Galen, You end up trading those guys.

  So the couple guys you did either draft or develop, they're
• 9:39
  now elsewhere. And that's really, let's be
• 9:41
  real, if if the Cardinals don't make that trade and you have
• 9:43
  Alcandro and Gallon the last several years, it's a whole
• 9:47
  different story. Because that's been the
• 9:48
  Cardinals constant issue for the last, at least what three
• 9:51
  seasons is starting pitching and running out of starting pitching
• 9:55
  at the trade deadline as they did two years ago where they
• 9:59
  acquired J Hap and Jon Lester and what even Wade LeBlanc
• 10:03
  before that. And then couple years ago,
• 10:06
  Jordan Montgomery, Jose Quintana.

  And clearly the Cardinals ran out of pitching almost an
• 10:12
  opening day last year. Let's be real, the Cardinals
• 10:15
  pitching staff starting pitching was horrendous last year and it
• 10:17
  was so bad. Didn't even matter because they
• 10:19
  weren't. They weren't good.
• 10:20
  They weren't going to add. But if the Cardinals were good
• 10:22
  enough they would have had to add what 2 two starters last
• 10:28
  year that they probably would have added two starters again at
• 10:30
  the deadline if they were actually competitive.

  Clearly you're not going to start wayno in those starts down
• 10:36
  the stretch and and they wouldn't have got rid of
• 10:39
  Flaherty and Jordan Montgomery. But this is all hypothetical so

  But our guy David Solomon actually at 590 he was going to

  go down there so I was planning on having all of the the audio

  and David Solomon unfortunately lower body injury he took a he

  took a fall slipped messed up his leg.

  So Dave Solomon hope you're feeling better buddy but he was

  going to get me all the audio and that was my plan for winter

  warm up me personally. Look I covered winter warm up

  probably 1014 times whatever it was and winter warm up is fun

  and I mean there there were weekends where I bet you I was
• 11:44
  there 20 hours some of those weeks back in the day where
• 11:50
  you're there like 678 hours on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

  So I enjoy the winter warm up but didn't feel like going down.

  I'm sorry, I apologize. I've also always thought that

  winter warm up was a good time for for the, I don't know if
• 12:04
  this is the right word, non traditional media because I

  would call myself that now with YouTube.

  But it's it's hard to get a credential for the Cardinals for
• 12:12
  an actual regular season baseball game.

  So winter warm up has always been the time where they let
• 12:17
  bloggers, digital guys, Youtubers, whatever you want to

  say. People that don't normally get a
• 12:22
  credential, they're allowed to go down there.

  So I've always thought, that's cool for those folks who don't
• 12:26
  get to cover the team on a regular basis to be down there
• 12:29
  asking questions and all that. So plus, look, man, I'm just

  being honest. I have two kids.

  It's -3° out, OK? I'm not going to tell my wife,

  hey, I'm going to go down to Winter Worm for 20 hours this

  weekend, watch the kids in -3°. She would kill me.
