- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by Guns Up Nation, part of the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: Tristan, that was a game, I will say on Saturday.
- 0:54SPEAKER_08: 2-0.
- 0:56SPEAKER_08: Right where we want to be.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: So disappointing.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: So disappointing.
- 1:02SPEAKER_08: But I don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:04SPEAKER_08: All I know is we're undefeated, okay?
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: All I know is that we're undefeated.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: And when Texas Tech is undefeated and wins a game, we have to do a thing, even though this one they didn't really deserve this song, but we're gonna have to play the song.
- 1:23SPEAKER_08: Rolls our rules, play the song.
- 1:26SPEAKER_06: Red Raider coming at you with a fury of the win.
- 1:38SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech Red Raiders ride again.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: If this game didn't remind you of the past 10 years of Texas Tech football, I don't know what did because uh, you know, just disappointment, just not fun watching Texas Tech football.
- 1:59SPEAKER_08: Steven, you're looking at this the wrong way.
- 2:01SPEAKER_08: We're whenever you're stepping up with cross state, your East Texas rival and Stephen F.
- 2:07SPEAKER_08: Austin out of Nacadochas, you're gonna expect a battle on the field, and that's exactly what we saw.
- 2:12SPEAKER_08: We knew it'd come down to the last play, and it did.
- 2:15SPEAKER_08: It did not disappoint in that sense.
- 2:17SPEAKER_08: Just what a what a fist fight of juggernauts.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the real fist fight.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: Uh I like let's let's just talk about it because it was an awful showing from our Red Raiders uh on a more serious note.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: Here, we're gonna get to parts of the game in a second, but um really the most disappointing thing, and as a podcast, you and me are are on team Matt Wells.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Hope you succeed.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: We are.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of people out there that are not.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: They as soon as we hire Matt Wells, they have been anti, they they want him to lose, they want tech to lose, so Matt Wells is gone.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: That's the we think that's the wrong way to approach this as fans.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Uh Matt Wells is not a good thing.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: No, absolutely for sure.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: He is, he is, but it it's he's not giving us enough reason to root to keep rooting for it.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: It's making it harder and harder with these type of games.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: And with the Houston Baptist game last year, with this game now, the fact that he can't beat a freaking FCS opponent by more than a touchdown is so ridiculous.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's it grinds my gears if you can't tell.
- 3:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I I promise I won't say we'll blow out an FCS team until next year.
- 3:32SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 3:32SPEAKER_08: Uh let's just let's just forget I said that this past podcast because two pre-fcs pods in a row, I have said we have nothing to worry about.
- 3:43SPEAKER_08: But lo and behold, we have something to worry about.
- 3:46SPEAKER_08: And before before we really dig into criticizing the game and the team, I do want to give Matt Wells a respect.
- 3:53SPEAKER_08: Um, it was really cool to see him on that 9-11 special on ESPN, um, giving his take of the day and giving his respects.
- 4:01SPEAKER_08: Uh, whenever he was a wide receivers coach at uh the Naval Academy, um, and just talk about how humbling of an experience it must have been for our coach to be uh coaching the Navy's futures like that during the one of the most uh uh monumentous days in our nation's recent history.
- 4:17SPEAKER_08: Um, and obviously, God God bless America and be with the souls we lost on that day uh 20 years ago.
- 4:22SPEAKER_08: I just want to throw that in there before we uh went a little further because that was pretty cool because he was one of the few coaches featured.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was cool.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: And and nobody's questioning Matt Wells as a guy.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: I think everybody here pretty much thinks Matt Wells is a good dude.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, and and and it was the all the 9-11 tributes that went on throughout this weekend from NFL to college football to baseball, all that kind of stuff, they were all great.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Uh, a lot of emotion spread.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, college game day did a great job with it.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, I mean, I'm I'm glad you included that.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: But uh seriously, this is this is getting harder and harder to root for the football coach that is Matt Wells because um when you put on a performance like this, it's it's just simply it's not getting your team ready because it's not a matter of talent.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: It's not.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: We have a very talented roster here.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: We have a group of guys that I think should finish top half of the Big 12.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: But if you're not going to get up for every single game, that's a coaching issue.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a locker room issue.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: The fact that they came into this game, your home opener for Stephen F.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Austin, the game that Eric Ezukama's on Twitter, Matt Wells is on Twitter, everybody's on Twitter saying, pack the Jones, get people here to watch us play football.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: And then you put on a performance like that, that is disheartening.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: That will really piss off a fan base, and that's what's pissing me off right now.
- 5:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I wrote that down too.
- 5:46SPEAKER_08: Like it was a great crowd, you know, really great crowd for an FCS opener after years and years of struggling.
- 5:51SPEAKER_08: Um, it's good to see the to the students and the fans rally around the team, but they deserved so much better than what they got.
- 5:59SPEAKER_08: Like the fans brought it.
- 6:00SPEAKER_08: What the heck did the team do?
- 6:02SPEAKER_08: You know, um, and it's you're right, he didn't get up for the game, and it's not, I feel like this isn't even a matter of playing down to your competition because it didn't feel like we did that against U of H.
- 6:11SPEAKER_08: Uh, whenever we were playing U of H, it looked like we were a power five team playing a G5 team in the second half, and this one it just it felt like it was two FCS teams going at it, you know, like and we barely came out on top.
- 6:24SPEAKER_08: It was embarrassing.
- 6:25SPEAKER_08: I I don't know why we looked so asleep.
- 6:27SPEAKER_08: There was zero enthusiasm, zero heat uh on our side.
- 6:31SPEAKER_08: Uh I it just it was lack of inspiration.
- 6:36SPEAKER_08: Like it just I was uninspired during the whole game.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that I felt the same way.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: It's it's like you put a lot into this program as fans, you know.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: You you give your heart and soul rooting for this team because we all want to see Texas Tech succeed.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: But if you're gonna go, and this has been a problem for the past 10 years, we don't play well at home.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: In Lubbock, we are losing way too many games.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's a shame.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: And to do this in back-to-back years with FCS opponents that we should have won this game by 30 plus.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, it it's a power five level team.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: I know we've been bad the last 10 years.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: We should still be beating an FCS team by 30 or 40 points.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: And uh this was clearly just a matter of not getting your team prepared and ready.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: And SFA, you knew they were gonna bring it because they're playing a power five team.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Of course, they're gonna bring all they can.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: You know, Coach Carthell, credit to him and everything like that.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: You know, he was awesome on Twitter with tech fans and everything like that.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: But uh, they're this game should not have been close.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: And when I just constantly hear credit Stephen F.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Austin, credit Stephen F.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: Austin.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: No, that's just it, yeah, they play their hearts out.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: Even if they play their hearts out, we should be beating them by 30 or 40.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: It's uh it's so ridiculous to me.
- 7:59SPEAKER_08: Vegas told uh guessed us to beat them by 30 plus.
- 8:03SPEAKER_08: So even whenever Vegas says you're gonna do something, you probably should be doing it.
- 8:06SPEAKER_08: Um with numbers like that.
- 8:08SPEAKER_08: So it was really disappointing.
- 8:10SPEAKER_08: Um, and there's really no other way to cut it, other than it really felt like it was more on the coaching staff than it was the players.
- 8:17SPEAKER_08: Um, because like you said, uh SFA's coach did bring it with the play calling and the players.
- 8:23SPEAKER_08: They they went out there and played hard.
- 8:25SPEAKER_08: And I understand, like, you don't want to hear that right now, but they did.
- 8:27SPEAKER_08: Um, and but that's no excuse for how we played either.
- 8:32SPEAKER_08: Um, and the ironic thing is is the their the screen was slaying us.
- 8:37SPEAKER_08: They they did these screen plays that were just destroying our default, our defense there, and we just fired a guy because we were sick of the screen because it wasn't working, and then he turns around and works on us.
- 8:47SPEAKER_08: Just the sick irony there, man.
- 8:49SPEAKER_08: Um, but I I feel you, dude.
- 8:50SPEAKER_08: It's it's really disheartening to do this in your home opener, um, because I do want the Jones to be packing.
- 8:56SPEAKER_08: And you're talking about how bad these games have been at home, and that's just such a cultural shift from what Texas Tech is known for, from what Lubbock is known for.
- 9:03SPEAKER_08: We're scared, we're known for being one of the scariest places to play, especially at night, especially if you're ranked.
- 9:07SPEAKER_08: You don't want to go to Lubbock, you know, everyone's scared to get out of Lubbock alive, you know, um, on the field.
- 9:12SPEAKER_08: So it's it's so disappointing because those are the games you need to perform the best at.
- 9:18SPEAKER_08: You know, the road losses are forgivable.
- 9:20SPEAKER_08: Performance like performances like this at home are not.
- 9:22SPEAKER_08: It's just you better you better put FIU so far into the ground that we completely forget if this ever happened.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you lose, uh, you lose the turnover battle four to nothing.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: You lose the time of possession 40 minutes to 19 minutes.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: Uh it's it's just like, what the hell?
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: What the hell went on with this entire game?
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: Fourth downs.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, I mean, it's it's Houston converted what, I think three or four fourth downs.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Now SFA is converting five of eight on fourth down.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: What is happening?
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Like, and it wasn't even the defense overall, I think, played a pretty decent game, especially in that second half there.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: But uh the offense was abysmal this entire time.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: I I don't know what's going on with either the play calling or whether it's Tyler Shuck not trusting anybody, not named Erica Zukama.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: It's it's and the O-line was awful as well.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's just the you can tell these guys just weren't playing like this was a game that mattered, and you should need to play every single game like it freaking matters.
- 10:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, prop to the defense were two great weeks in a row.
- 10:36SPEAKER_08: Um, they held they held them to about 20 points, and what more can we ask about the defense no matter who you're playing?
- 10:43SPEAKER_08: Um, and they're on the field for 40 minutes, like you just said.
- 10:47SPEAKER_08: So that's a long, long time to be on the field when the offense is only out there for less than 20 minutes.
- 10:53SPEAKER_08: So it's credit to them.
- 10:54SPEAKER_08: I mean, Coach Patterson's doing a phenomenal job, not disappointed at all with the way they're they're playing.
- 10:59SPEAKER_08: Um, but our freaking workhorse that is always our offense just was an absolute disappointment.
- 11:06SPEAKER_08: Easy can't do everything, he's a special player, but man, he needs some help.
- 11:11SPEAKER_08: He's not gonna be a he's not gonna be spectacular every single game, and he had some great plays this game, but he wasn't superstar.
- 11:19SPEAKER_08: Um, he was dropping some easy passes and such.
- 11:22SPEAKER_08: Uh, but you know, you can't you can't expect him to play perfectly every single time.
- 11:25SPEAKER_08: The other wide receivers are supposed to be really good too.
- 11:28SPEAKER_08: They need to help him out.
- 11:29SPEAKER_08: Um, and it just I don't know that and that O-line just really was night and day from last week.
- 11:36SPEAKER_08: You know, it seems like the offense had some put had some time to work last week, but this week the SFA was on Shuck immediately.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, people are gonna see Shuck's stats and they're gonna be like, oh, he had a bad game.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: When in reality, the dude was rushed three seconds.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: There was a defensive lineman on him, and that's on the O-line.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: That's not on him.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: He he did have a couple bad plays.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, he he gave away that fumble, but again, guy was in his grill in a uh half a second after the snap, and then he fumbled on that uh end of the third quarter there, and then he did have a one-uh, one of his interceptions was really bad.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: Tried to throw it to Miles Price in double coverage, that was just a bad throw.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: Uh, but on that pick six, I mean, either easy could have not run the right route.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: I don't know if Shuck was thinking the wrong route, I don't know what it was, but somebody jacked up there.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Um, and and then it's just like turnovers again.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm so out on McLean Manics at this point.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: I like this dude has has been hyped up to be one of your veteran leaders on the team, and he muffs a punt, and then the rest of the game refuses to catch any punts because he's scared.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, he it took him out of the game after you and and you can't have that from your fifth-year senior.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: I mean, um there's so much that is disturbing about that last game, and uh, you know, I know we're being negative right now.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Uh, we have the right to be because we just beat an FCS team by six.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, but uh, you know, I'm not out on this team.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: I think we can pick it back up.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: I think you know, this Florida International game is going to tell us a lot about uh this team moving forward.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: But uh there was just so much in this game that was so brutal to watch and so disheartening.
- 13:21SPEAKER_08: No, 100%.
- 13:22SPEAKER_08: I none of us feel like we won that game.
- 13:24SPEAKER_08: Everyone feels like it was a you know that sort of emotional loss.
- 13:29SPEAKER_08: So because the way I look at it, especially with that turnover margin, is if that's any other team, if we if we lose that turnover battle zero, zero to four, we lose this game.
- 13:38SPEAKER_08: And this is like any G5 even team, we probably lose this game.
- 13:43SPEAKER_08: So we're lucky that the talent difference was that much because that's probably what it came down to at the end.
- 13:47SPEAKER_08: Was there's we do have the more talented guys, and those big explosive breakaway plays really saved our bacon.
- 13:54SPEAKER_08: And those are plays you can't bank on winning games from.
- 13:57SPEAKER_08: So it's just we really got lucky.
- 14:00SPEAKER_08: I think that's probably the best word I can use is to describe this game as lucky, and you should not be getting lucky against an FCS team.
- 14:07SPEAKER_08: This should just be flat out domination because we look around the conference to the that day, too.
- 14:12SPEAKER_08: It was mostly FCS teams, and almost all the games except for Kansas State, they got away from their FCS team, no issue.
- 14:17SPEAKER_08: Put them away, business as usual, and that's just what I a lot I was expecting.
- 14:21SPEAKER_08: That's what we I wanted, and that's what it should have been.
- 14:24SPEAKER_08: I mean, maybe SFA is truly a tough FCS team, but the talent difference should just not make it that close.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: It does not matter whether SFA is one of the better FCS teams.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: You need to take care of business.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, you really do.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: It's it's oh, it's just the worst.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: Um, the O-line was so bad.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was night and day from the Houston game.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: It really was.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Um, TJ Stormont had some bone-headed mistakes.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: I know he got a big uh unnecessary roughness, I think, penalty or whatever it was.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Um, that Matt Wells got pissed at him on the sideline.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: Um, Caleb Rogers was awful.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: I mean, the guy just lets dudes go right by him on a lot of these plays.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Um, I I mean, they certain plays like on the Taj Brooks run or the Xavier White when he took off, like, yeah, they created big gaps.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: We love to see that, but um just overall a bad effort from the O-line.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: And yeah, we just can't have that.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: If you can't handle Stephen F.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Austin's defensive front, I don't know how you're gonna handle OU or Texas or Iowa State or any of that.
- 15:34SPEAKER_08: I just don't know if I've ever seen a tale of two games as a Texas Tech fan like this between U of H and SFA, because uh everything we did well during the the the Houston game just didn't translate to the SA uh uh Stephen F.
- 15:47SPEAKER_08: Boston game, except for except for maybe the overall performance of the defense.
- 15:50SPEAKER_08: Um, but even the defense played a little better against U of H because they got those wonderful turnovers um that really put us back into the Houston game.
- 15:58SPEAKER_08: But it's it's just hard to find silver linings here.
- 16:01SPEAKER_08: It really is, and that's what's so disappointing about this game.
- 16:04SPEAKER_08: Um, and even Matt Wells, I did watch the uh post-game presser, he did admit that the the offense was poor, that the the play calling was poor, it'll sloppy play.
- 16:14SPEAKER_08: Um, so at least he's recognizing it, admitting it because that's what we want for the coach.
- 16:18SPEAKER_08: Hopefully, it's not just sunshine and roses, you know.
- 16:20SPEAKER_08: Uh, recognize where you're falling short because this is a new offensive scheme.
- 16:25SPEAKER_08: Like we we we hired Sonny Cumby to change what we just saw.
- 16:29SPEAKER_08: We don't want to see this anymore.
- 16:30SPEAKER_08: We want to see an explosive Texastic offense that we're used to.
- 16:33SPEAKER_08: Um, and this should have been a practice game, basically.
- 16:36SPEAKER_08: You should have practiced your offensive weapons and plays on as Stephen Upp Austin.
- 16:41SPEAKER_08: But it turns out you have to do everything you can to claw into a win because we're playing from behind during a portion of this game, and that's just embarrassing, man.
- 16:48SPEAKER_08: Like it it sucks that it came down to of the last the ending of the last quarter to see if we're gonna lose this or not.
- 16:55SPEAKER_08: So it's just at by that point, you should be like, okay, we can walk away from the TV, we're beating them 40 to 10, you know, at least.
- 17:02SPEAKER_08: So it's it's just this disheartening.
- 17:04SPEAKER_08: I hope the coaches really pull their heads out of there behind, except for uh Coach Patterson, keep it up.
- 17:10SPEAKER_08: Um, because it we only get one more tune-up game before we play our biggest rival for possibly the last time in Austin.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: And uh, I mean, just uh just to kind of add on to that, and we we spoke on it earlier, but um uh Texas Tech as a whole has 394 receiving yards this season between the Houston game and the Stephen F.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Austin game.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: Eric Ezukama has 323 of those 394 receiving yards.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: We are not getting the ball to other guys, and it's it's uh like that's concerning.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: You uh any decent defensive coordinator can understand if one guy has nine-tenths of the receiving yards throughout the season, you put two guys on it.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, uh you know, Eric Azukama can't friggin' like you said, he's not gonna put up those numbers every single week.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: We have to learn, and I was concerned about this, you know, before the season of the youth of this wide receiving core and who's gonna step up because we haven't seen guys that have stepped up yet in that position.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, I would I would have thought Miles Price would be more involved.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: I would have thought Trey Cleveland would catch a few more passes.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: I would have thought Troy Transfer, Kaylin Geiger, who was on some watch lists for the Balindikoff award, to get involved on this team.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, I don't understand if it's a if it's a Tyler Schuck problem, he just doesn't trust those guys.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: If it's they're not getting open, if the scheme's not catered towards them and it's just to get the ball to Eric Izucama and let him let him work.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: But we need to spread this ball around and get other guys involved so it gives them confidence moving forward.
- 18:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, this is probably the most important homework uh our font our offense has right now is it's how the hell do we get other people involved with the game?
- 19:00SPEAKER_08: Because uh, like you just touched on and I touched on earlier, is you know, you you can't have one player do it all um because that's expecting him to be a freaking superstar every single game, and it's just not gonna happen, you know.
- 19:09SPEAKER_08: It's just um because, like you said, coaches are gonna figure him out.
- 19:12SPEAKER_08: Um, and this should not be an issue that we should be concerned with.
- 19:16SPEAKER_08: This is Texas Tech University.
- 19:18SPEAKER_08: This is our wide receivers top to bottom should be able to smoke anybody we play.
- 19:22SPEAKER_08: Um, and it's just like you said, unfortunately, just hasn't been the case yet.
- 19:26SPEAKER_08: And we have one more game to see if we can straighten that out before things get real.
- 19:31SPEAKER_08: So it's who knows what the real issue is.
- 19:34SPEAKER_08: Um, but it's it that's up to the coaches to figure it out out, not us.
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: So I think it's a multitude of issues, uh, especially from that last game.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: But uh man, we've seen some week by week games and teams that have just completely changed.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, we saw Oregon play a tight with Fresno State in week one and then turn it around and go beat Ohio State the next week.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: So uh it, you know, if it's just a matter of not getting up and not getting your team ready and just not just taking this game lightly, uh, I hope that's what it is.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: But that's a concern in and of itself.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: But uh the bright side running backs were great.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Taj Brooks is awesome, took off for another big run.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Xavier White, uh, you know, Taj Brooks 11 carries, 115 yards, two touchdowns.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: He had another great performance.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Uh Xavier White, five carries for 70 yards and a touchdown.
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, without Sir Rodrick, again, uh Matt Wells keeps saying he's day-to-day, which makes me less and less confident he's gonna keep he's gonna play for uh FIU.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: But uh if even if he doesn't play, we got the guys.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: We're fine.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: Dodge Brooks is an elite starting running back in the Big 12 already.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, hopefully that carries forward, but uh we just can't keep relying on these massive plays.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: You know, it seems like we have to have a massive play every every scoring drive.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: We can't take it down and we can't keep the ball for a long time and have like an I'd like to see like an 18-play, eight-minute drive scoring for Texas tech that it results in a touchdown.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: We haven't seen that yet, and I want to see that moving forward.
- 21:05SPEAKER_08: What a time to be alive where our running back core is more impressive than a wide receiver's ground rate.
- 21:10SPEAKER_08: What a time.
- 21:13SPEAKER_08: What a time to be alive, man.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 21:16SPEAKER_08: Um, yeah, that that that's that's a good point, and that's it's a bright thing to be looking at.
- 21:22SPEAKER_08: I've had a lot of fun watching our running backs because they have been wonderful.
- 21:25SPEAKER_08: Um, but uh it's it's been a lot of negativity.
- 21:27SPEAKER_08: I'm glad we're bringing back some positive notes here.
- 21:30SPEAKER_08: Um, and it's at least on the records, it says two and oh, because we at least we still have nothing but undefeated to go here.
- 21:37SPEAKER_08: Um, a lot of FPS teams have lost to some FCS teams this year, and teams that are viewed as better than us have lost FCS teams.
- 21:47SPEAKER_08: So it's uh it any given Saturday, man, it can happen.
- 21:52SPEAKER_08: So I'm glad we we we we pulled it out in the end because uh who knows what kind of conversation we could be having if it didn't.
- 21:59SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: No doubt.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: So uh I mean, Jeff, any last thoughts on Stephen F.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: Austin?
- 22:06SPEAKER_08: Uh, no, I don't think so.
- 22:08SPEAKER_08: But uh, it's uh it was certainly uh not very fun.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: It was not a fun Saturday uh after watching that game.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Uh so I blame Texas Tech Football for yet another sad Saturday night for this guy over here.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: But uh at least we did get the dub.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: I think we can turn it around.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: I'm not out on this team by any means.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: I'm not done.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm just I'm very disappointed after that performance.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: But hey, if we go and beat FIU like we should by a ton, I'm right back in.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: So it's a week by week thing with me.
- 22:39SPEAKER_08: 100%, man, because who knows?
- 22:41SPEAKER_08: Uh SFA might be better than Florida International.
- 22:44SPEAKER_08: I don't think that's a very hot take.
- 22:45SPEAKER_08: Um, so we we better we better turn it around and pull it, put it hard on on the Panthers.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: But we'll get into that FIU preview towards the end of this episode.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: But uh let's talk about some other Big 12 teams that played.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: Uh, every again, every other Big 12 team played this past week.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: Uh, not not a great show in overall for the Big 12.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: Um just you know, some up and down games, some some just looked awful and some you know took care of business against teams they should have crushed.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: So uh we'll go down like we did alphabetically last week.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: Uh Baylor defeats Texas Southern 66 to 7.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Uh, not much to say here.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: Baylor playing a lower tier team.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: I wish this is how we played this past week.
- 23:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, they got their job done.
- 23:29SPEAKER_08: It was it's a pretty impressive turnaround after uh last week.
- 23:32SPEAKER_08: They kind of were slow to get over Texas State and they turn around and just absolutely crush uh their FCS team.
- 23:39SPEAKER_08: Should have been us, should have been what we did.
- 23:41SPEAKER_08: But and then we're gonna say the same thing through this uh uh conference look around.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: So uh moving on from Baylor, uh, we got to move on to the Cyclones of Iowa State, uh falling to Iowa 27 to 17.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: Uh man, this is just uh you gotta feel for the cyclone fans at this point.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: And then we did just get some breaking news right before we started recording that USC fired their head coach.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: So now, of course, you know, Matt Campbell rumors the USC are gonna be flying all offseason.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, so I I mean this stinks for Iowa State.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: This is a really hyped up team, uh, the most hyped up they've ever been uh for football.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: And it's been a really, really disappointing start to the year uh for them, especially and and really the score was 27-17, but it really wasn't even that close.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, Iowa crushed them in a lot of aspects.
- 24:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, talk about a backbreaker.
- 24:35SPEAKER_08: Uh, this is the biggest season of your entire fandom, your entire program's life.
- 24:40SPEAKER_08: Um, you lose your biggest rival on game day, you know, who's also in the top 10, and they just kind of put you in your place, which really, really stinks.
- 24:47SPEAKER_08: I I got a feel for our cyclone buddies, our big eight buddies.
- 24:51SPEAKER_08: And they last week they looked not good either.
- 24:54SPEAKER_08: They barely, barely, barely beat their FCS team, kind of like we did, but even less so.
- 25:00SPEAKER_08: They had they struggled even harder against Northern Iowa.
- 25:03SPEAKER_08: So it's it's been a really disappointing season for the Cyclones.
- 25:06SPEAKER_08: And all I gotta say, Steven, do you have a crystal ball?
- 25:08SPEAKER_08: Because I think your prediction about the clones this season might come true, about a pretty lackluster compared to their preseason high ending record.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, them losing four games starts with losing the Iowa game.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, I'm I'm I'm not a uh fortune teller here, but uh, I there's just something about this team that screamed there's too many positives going into the year, something has to go wrong.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: And Brock Purdy might be that reason.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's looked awful to start the year, he really has three interceptions in this Iowa game.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Uh, I even I think they put in the backup quarterback there for a bit.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, and there's too many weapons on this Iowa State team to not succeed on offense.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: So uh a lot of this, a lot of their season from here on relies on Brock Purdy and if he can get it together.
- 25:53SPEAKER_08: Man, it's almost like it's the most important position on the field or something.
- 25:55SPEAKER_08: If they don't, if your star QB doesn't show out, it's your season isn't gonna go how you think it does.
- 26:01SPEAKER_08: Um, which really stinks this guy had like NFL potential.
- 26:04SPEAKER_08: People are saying that he was gonna leave last year to go to the draft and such, and he stuck around for one more.
- 26:08SPEAKER_08: Um, I hope that's not a mistake for the young man going forward here because maybe he could be making millions in the NFL, but uh good for him for sticking around.
- 26:15SPEAKER_08: There's still time to turn it around, all right?
- 26:17SPEAKER_08: It's it's if you're gonna lose, if you're gonna lose, it might as well be now, right?
- 26:21SPEAKER_08: And it might as well be at a conference.
- 26:23SPEAKER_08: So there's still definitely time for them to make it to uh Arlington at the end of the season and uh make themselves like an NY6 poll or something, but uh definitely really disappointing.
- 26:33SPEAKER_08: I was definitely pulling for them.
- 26:34SPEAKER_08: I'm pulling for pretty much every big eight team, so it's just ouch.
- 26:38SPEAKER_08: I I would I would be if that was tech in that position, I would be shook right now.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I mean, I listen, Iowa State is one and one.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: They haven't played any Big 12 games yet.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: I they're uber talented, they still have a great coach, and they've blown games in the Matt Campbell era early in the season that they should have won.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: Not saying that the Iowa game they should have won, but uh it's you know, they've blown these types of games and have not looked great early in past seasons.
- 27:07SPEAKER_08: They lost to Louisiana last year.
- 27:10SPEAKER_08: So yeah, that's it's it's they've dropped some weird ones at the beginning of the season.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: But uh let's move on.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: We won't uh give the Cyclone fans that potentially are listening any more grief, and uh they're probably not listening to any podcast this week anyway.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: If they don't want to hear it, so um moving on to uh the beloved Kansas Jayhawks uh falling to Coastal Carolina on Friday night, 49 to 22.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Um, it's weird in all this this whole game was weird because it's a power five opponent playing a g5 opponent.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: Are is Coastal even G5?
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're they're in the Sun Belt.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, they're in the fun belt.
- 27:48SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: Um, and and it's weird that we're saying Kansas is improving when they're losing by 27 points to a Sunbelt team, and we're still like, I don't know, Kansas, they're they're okay, they're doing some good things.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: Uh so uh, you know, I what are you gonna say about Kansas?
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: They're they're in uh an everlasting rebuild, uh, apparently, and they lose to a good coastal team.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: Credit to coastal, they're very good.
- 28:21SPEAKER_08: I mean, no surprise here.
- 28:22SPEAKER_08: It's this is what was expected.
- 28:24SPEAKER_08: KU actually put up a fight in the first quarter.
- 28:26SPEAKER_08: Uh, they actually led going into the first, uh, but then were quickly destroyed in the second.
- 28:32SPEAKER_08: So all hope was lost in the second quarter.
- 28:34SPEAKER_08: Um, at least they're one and one.
- 28:36SPEAKER_08: KU can't say that very often at this point in the season.
- 28:39SPEAKER_08: Um, and like you said, they're in constant rebuilds uh mode, but I think they did make a smart hire this time around.
- 28:46SPEAKER_08: They didn't get just some washed up power five guy.
- 28:49SPEAKER_08: Uh, they got a a builder who built a bad team into a winner.
- 28:54SPEAKER_08: So that's what you have to do at a program like KU.
- 28:56SPEAKER_08: That's what we got to do at a lot like most programs.
- 28:59SPEAKER_08: So that's uh it was there's a bright feature, but this is what you expect.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: So I think uh I think a lot will tell next week.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: They play Baylor, so they've actually play a conference game next week.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, and Baylor could be one of the one of the lower level teams in the Big 12.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, this score that they the the beating they put on Texas Southern may not indicate that, but again, hard to tell early in the season when you're playing these uh not talented teams, to say the least.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, but let's move on.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Uh Kansas State uh defeating Southern Illinois 31 to 23.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: Much like the tech game, it was far too close for Kansas State fans against their FCS opponent.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, I know Skyler Thompson went out with a little bit of an injury.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: Uh, not sure how serious it was, uh, but you know, you're gonna lose your quarterback.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: It's it's tough to come back from that, but still a game that they should have won by more.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Kansas State continues to be a team I have no idea what to think about.
- 29:57SPEAKER_08: It's so funny that Kansas State is a mirror of Texas Tech right now.
- 30:01SPEAKER_08: They rock their week one neutral site game, kind of like we did.
- 30:06SPEAKER_08: And then they have a terrible home opener against an FCS team.
- 30:10SPEAKER_08: That gives me a bit of relief because uh K-State's being voted on as a fringe uh top 25 team right now.
- 30:16SPEAKER_08: And it's a really is a shame that uh Skylar Thompson's out right now.
- 30:19SPEAKER_08: He looks pretty dang great against Stanford.
- 30:21SPEAKER_08: Um, and it's you don't ever want to see a kid get hurt.
- 30:25SPEAKER_08: Um, but it can't I if if we follow a similar trip projection of K-State after they just romp Stanford, I feel pretty good.
- 30:34SPEAKER_08: Like it kind of gives me a sense of relief that you know maybe it was just a bit of a trip up, um, but when there's still plenty of season to look forward to.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, wish uh wish the best for Skylar Thompson.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: Hopefully he's not out.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: I know he had an injury that took him out last year that actually happened in the tech game, right?
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: Uh so you know, hopefully he gets back and Kansas State bounces back.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: But um moving on, uh, not much to talk about on this next one.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: Oklahoma crushes Western Carolina 76-0.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, take it easy sooners, all right.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: 76 to nothing, guys.
- 31:07SPEAKER_08: But they took all their anger out from the two-lane game on these boys.
- 31:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah, no doubt.
- 31:12SPEAKER_08: So not much to talk about.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the Oklahoma should have done this.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: So uh congrats to them, they did it.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: Um, but uh again, another bad week for Oklahoma State.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: They do come out with a win uh against Tulsa 28 to 23.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: Uh, it was much too close.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Spencer Sanders looked bad.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: The running game looks bad.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: The uh it looks bad over there with Mike Gundy in Oklahoma State.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: They are 2-0.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: Can't complain about being 2-0, but you can complain about the performance.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: And two straight weeks, they put on a very rough showing, especially on offense.
- 31:49SPEAKER_08: Two weekends in a row of struggling against terrible teams.
- 31:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you know, they they they struggled against their opener against Missouri State.
- 31:56SPEAKER_08: Missouri State had every chance to win that game, too.
- 31:58SPEAKER_08: And then they have to barely beat Tulsa, who just lost to an FCS team the week before.
- 32:03SPEAKER_08: So Oklahoma State looks shaky.
- 32:07SPEAKER_08: Like this is this might be the worst Oklahoma State team I personally have ever seen.
- 32:11SPEAKER_08: So it's in still water, they're probably not very happy.
- 32:16SPEAKER_08: So it's it, it's it's looking bad for the Pokes right now.
- 32:19SPEAKER_08: Who knows?
- 32:19SPEAKER_08: But who knows if Gunny could throw this back together.
- 32:22SPEAKER_08: I mean, it they're still 2-0, but wow.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I mean, we said it uh during our offseason series, Oklahoma State doesn't have that star skill position guy that they've had the last few years.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's no more Chuba Hubbard, there's no more um James Washington, there's no more Tylan Wallace, there's not another one of those guys that could take on that reign and be that star that Oklahoma State has had in the past, and they're relying a lot on Spencer Sanders.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: And for me, a guy that is not a believer in Spencer Sanders, uh, you know, that's that's a tough guy to lean on.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: So who knows?
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: Maybe Oklahoma State switches it around.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: Gundy pulls some weird Gundy juju that turns the season around for him, but uh rough start for him.
- 33:04SPEAKER_08: Hey, I feel like Stillwater has such a love-hate relationship with Gundy, and this just does not do him any favors for the hate part.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: The hate party is out for Mike Gundy's job after this season, uh, at least right now.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: So uh moving on.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: TCU, another that's a tough show in for TCU.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: They beat Cal uh 34 to 32.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: Uh, a lot of rough wins for the Big 12 this week.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Uh TCU barely squeaking by the golden bears, uh, who I think Cal lost to an FCS team in week one as well.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: So tough to Nevada.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, that's what it was.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: They lost to ish.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: Uh tough.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: That's still not good.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: No, it's not good.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: Uh TCU, I didn't watch any of this game to be honest.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: So I don't know what the matter was.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: I you gotta think it's the offense.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: Um it does and 34 to 32 squeaking by Cal, that's not good.
- 33:59SPEAKER_08: No, and it I wrote down decent win.
- 34:02SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's a power five team you're beating, and it's great Deadles against a pack team.
- 34:06SPEAKER_08: Um, but California doesn't look any good.
- 34:09SPEAKER_08: Like you drop a game at home against Nevada, a G5 team from the Mountain West.
- 34:13SPEAKER_08: That's just not a good showing, whenever your talent level is probably well above theirs.
- 34:17SPEAKER_08: Um, so it to see G Pat struggle through this game, he's hyped up to have a great season this year.
- 34:23SPEAKER_08: Um, this is not showing it.
- 34:25SPEAKER_08: That's not that's for dang sure.
- 34:27SPEAKER_08: So uh you're like you said, a lot of tight ones in the Big 12 this week.
- 34:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: So uh this one is the game to talk about, though.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Uh the University of Texas at Austin falling to the Razorbacks of Arkansas and not only falling, but getting absolutely destroyed on the ground.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: They lose 40 to 21.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: I was eating up those Longhorn tears.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: That was the only thing that made me happy during that Saturday after watching uh my my Texas Tech Red Raiders not live up to expectations.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, but at least we came out with a win.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: Uh, and we didn't lose to what is probably one of the most annoying fan bases in all of college football.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: But we were all Arkansas fans on Saturday, my man.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Uh, that that was an awful showing from the Longhorns.
- 35:21SPEAKER_08: America celebrates this game, man.
- 35:24SPEAKER_08: It feels so great seeing like Twitter explode, everybody exploding over this.
- 35:28SPEAKER_08: Uh, because they get clowned by what was thought of of one of the worst teams in the SEC.
- 35:34SPEAKER_08: And here's Texas like, oh, go to SEC, we're gonna go win, baby.
- 35:39SPEAKER_08: And it's just they get absolutely clowned.
- 35:41SPEAKER_08: I love that we're staring the Nebraska number two right in the face.
- 35:47SPEAKER_08: It really feels that way because I feel like UT's gonna go to the SEC just absolutely suck, man.
- 35:53SPEAKER_08: And it's it is so funny seeing UT fans brag about the money they're making and what they're gonna make in the SEC.
- 36:00SPEAKER_08: It's like, okay, man, as a fan, how much of that you're gonna what are you gonna do with your share?
- 36:04SPEAKER_08: What are you gonna do with that, huh?
- 36:05SPEAKER_08: Whatever, whatever UT goes three and nine or whatever.
- 36:08SPEAKER_08: Like, what are you doing with that share, buddy?
- 36:10SPEAKER_08: Um man, richest program in the nation.
- 36:12SPEAKER_08: That's awesome, bro.
- 36:14SPEAKER_08: They are like they I saw this on Twitter, I thought it was perfect.
- 36:17SPEAKER_08: They are truly the trust fund baby of college football.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, dude.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: That that was is hilarious seeing the meltdown.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: That's almost just as good as seeing the longhorns lose.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, the people on Twitter, uh, you know, all the famous Longhorns on Twitter that uh as soon as they lose, they go directly to hey, but we're rich.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: How about that?
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: We make lots of cash.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: We may not get the wins, but we got the cash.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: It's hilarious.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: No, it's it's really not.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: I could carry it.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: It's the opposite, my man.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: It is, it is.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: You're making yourself look more like fools than what your team just looked like on the field.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, uh, that was lovely to see.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: We almost got the trifecta with a tech win, a UT loss, and almost got an AM loss this week.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, but you know, they could they could lose a few moving forward with their quarterback out now.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: So uh, but it's always good to see Texas lose.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: It's even funnier seeing how badly Arkansas clowned them on social media.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: The official account roasted UT multiple times.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: It was fantastic.
- 37:23SPEAKER_08: Put him in the grave, it was amazing, man.
- 37:26SPEAKER_08: And I I everyone loves watching the Longhorns lose because just the way they act, it's just disgusting.
- 37:32SPEAKER_08: And it's just they the arrogance is off the charts, man.
- 37:35SPEAKER_08: And like you see, you brought up the AM game, and that was this close, too.
- 37:38SPEAKER_08: Man, that would that would have been really tasty as well.
- 37:41SPEAKER_08: Um, but I think it's a good sign about how AM season's about to go because they had all of this hype, all of this hype going into the season, and their defense looks great, but their offense looks like they don't know what they're doing on the field, which is which is great.
- 37:55SPEAKER_08: You can't win if you don't score.
- 37:56SPEAKER_08: So I hope they just get absolutely clowned as well.
- 37:59SPEAKER_08: Hope Arkansas does the same crap to them.
- 38:01SPEAKER_08: Um, even though we're we don't we're not in love with Arkansas on this podcast, and I mean there is that old Southwest rivalry there.
- 38:08SPEAKER_08: Um, but it's I will take the hogs beating both those teams 365 days.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, me too.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: We were all we were all hogs on Saturday.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: So we all woo-pigged.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: We I didn't woo pig, I didn't do that.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: Uh considering that's one of the weakest chants in all college sports.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: But uh, I I won't woo-pig, but I will root for you, Arkansas, when you're playing against the Longhorns or the Aggies.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: So uh big time, big time dub over there.
- 38:35SPEAKER_02: Love to see Texas lose.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: Um, do you have anything else on Texas?
- 38:40SPEAKER_08: No, I was I was just with my Longhorn uh alum uncle, and I was so ready to talk mess to him.
- 38:46SPEAKER_08: But once I saw the our tech score, I was like, uh, all right, I'll I'm not gonna let him pass.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Hopefully you can talk about it.
- 38:55SPEAKER_08: I can't do this with this score.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, hopefully you can talk mess to him here in a couple weeks.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: So um, but uh let's talk about the last game.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: And we it again, we're just touching on it.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: West Virginia crushes LIU, which is apparently uh a university.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: Um Long Island University, West Virginia beats 66 to nothing.
- 39:14SPEAKER_08: I didn't even know they had a football team, so that's I'm not I don't I'm not gonna look at that game at all.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, go cool, West Virginia.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: Nice, good, good for scheduling.
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: Nice win number one.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Good for scheduling Long Island University.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: Proud of you guys.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: Uh but that's but that's it.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: What Texas or the Big 12 goes what I think seven and three on the on the week.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, uh some some rougher showing, definitely a rougher showing than last week for the whole conference.
- 39:43SPEAKER_08: Hey, the yeah, well while while the stand the the the conference now went seven and three, you could the the new four went undefeated.
- 39:51SPEAKER_08: So that's true, it's true.
- 39:53SPEAKER_08: Look at Cincinnati, higher rank than the Ohio state.
- 39:57SPEAKER_08: They run the state of Ohio, bro.
- 40:00SPEAKER_08: That skyline chili, that Big 12 skyline chili.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: They've always ran the state of Ohio.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, no doubt.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: Um, it's it's crazy.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, yeah, like you said, BYU with a big win against uh Utah in the Holy War, um, Cincinnati taking care of business, Houston crushing rice, and then UCF taking care of business against a lower-level team as well.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: So you do love to see that the four new Big 12 teams, you know, doing well, going 4-0.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, meanwhile, the two teams that are leaving uh go one and one.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: So uh gotta love it.
- 40:36SPEAKER_08: This might have been like a BYU's fan's greatest moments in all of their fandom history because they get invited to a Power Five conference finally, and then they go and beat their biggest rival after 12 years of not doing so.
- 40:50SPEAKER_08: So it's a good time to be a cougar fan, that's for sure.
- 40:54SPEAKER_08: So, and I did like seeing uh Cincinnati using all the Big 12 imagery, like they had the Big 12 logo all over their stadium and all over the game.
- 41:01SPEAKER_08: So it's cool seeing these fans excited because it's these are great programs to be absorbing right now.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: Well, I guess that's a good segue into talking about it's confirmed the Big 12 has four new members, and it is those four teams we just named.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, it was really cool seeing all that go down.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: All the Big 12, uh, the remaining eight teams voted on it, and it was unanimously unanimously approved.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: Everybody's hyped up to see the new four Big 12 teams come up.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, they're they're arguably, well, they're not really arguably, they are the four best G5 teams, maybe besides a Boise or a Memphis or whoever you want to name, but uh four really good options officially joining the Big 12.
- 41:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I I listened to the uh the pressure from uh President Scubanek and uh Kirby Hokutt.
- 41:48SPEAKER_08: Uh President Scubanick emphasized that the Big 12 is looking to be a more national conference, and uh as well as adding schools that are a cultural fit.
- 41:57SPEAKER_08: I think they did well with that.
- 41:58SPEAKER_08: I mean, you add three new states, and uh they say that BYU is gonna be starting membership at latest July 1st, 2023.
- 42:06SPEAKER_08: So this is all moving pretty quickly, uh, relatively.
- 42:09SPEAKER_08: And uh Kirby Hokes says expansion will never end in his head for the rest of his career.
- 42:14SPEAKER_08: Um, so it looks like the Big 12 will always be looking at uh new additions, but whatever he said that I think it made me feel like okay, it's four and done for now.
- 42:22SPEAKER_08: Like he's saying, yeah, we're gonna be always be looking, but I I think that means that they're they're uh they're just gonna be looking for good opportunities in the future, not necessarily like adding Boise State and then Memphis immediately.
- 42:32SPEAKER_08: I think it would be a mistake.
- 42:33SPEAKER_08: So uh that's that's kind of what the the the theme of the pressure was pressor was.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, don't go crazy immediately.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: You know, these are four solid programs that you can add right now.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, don't don't add any more right now.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: Don't do that.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: We don't need to go to 16 or 18 right now.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: We can play it out.
- 42:50SPEAKER_02: This is a really solid conference on the field.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: I know we don't have that brand that is there, but uh having a solid group of teams that put a good performance out on the field will do a lot for you, especially if we start winning a lot of bowl games with these teams, potentially make it sneak into the college football playoff with the Cincinnati this year or with uh who knows, an Iowa State.
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: Who knows, Texas Tex 2-0, who knows?
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: But let's go.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, this is good stuff.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: It was nice seeing uh Kirby Hokut and President Scubenek take uh a real leadership position in this move for the Big 12.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, some people are gonna be disappointed that we're staying in the Big 12, but I think if we're one of the top dogs in the Big 12, that's fun no matter what.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: So uh positive vibes over here.
- 43:38SPEAKER_08: Absolutely.
- 43:39SPEAKER_08: No, I'm really excited about this new league.
- 43:41SPEAKER_08: I think it's gonna be a ton of fun.
- 43:42SPEAKER_08: It's gonna be cool seeing the Big 12 actually be big, the Big 12, you know, with 12 members.
- 43:46SPEAKER_08: Um, and significant news coming out of this presser is divisions are happening.
- 43:50SPEAKER_08: Uh Kirby Ho Cuts did say that division alignment will be necessary.
- 43:54SPEAKER_08: He didn't say anything about the well, who's going where?
- 43:56SPEAKER_08: Um, but it's it's good to know that they're already talking.
- 44:00SPEAKER_08: About what we're gonna do with it.
- 44:01SPEAKER_08: So that's kind of cool.
- 44:02SPEAKER_08: Um, so that kind of puts aside any talk about pods or uh no divisions at all.
- 44:06SPEAKER_08: Uh talk.
- 44:07SPEAKER_08: So it's just kind of interesting.
- 44:09SPEAKER_08: Um, President Scubanek and Kirby Hookett are not still not happy with OU and UT.
- 44:12SPEAKER_08: They kind of talked a little mess saying that these eight schools actually like working together, unlike uh some of the that don't really like to.
- 44:19SPEAKER_08: Um, so and Kirby looked absolutely pissed.
- 44:22SPEAKER_08: Like his whenever anybody anybody brought up OE or UT, his face just went like dead, you know, flat neutral, and just let President Scubanek take the question.
- 44:31SPEAKER_08: Um, and obviously they're asking about like what they think about adding U of H, and they're not apparently they're not scared of it at all.
- 44:37SPEAKER_08: They said that they think that Text Tech offers a cliche experience that U of H never could uh can whenever you're recruiting it to a player.
- 44:44SPEAKER_08: I thought that was a good point to make that you know Lovick is a college town, Tex Tech is a true university to its core.
- 44:50SPEAKER_08: Um, not not exactly just a city community or school, not toss and mess, but like that's just that's just there's a huge difference there.
- 44:56SPEAKER_08: Um, and it gives what uh a place where we recruit at it so heavy a place for players to go back home and play in their hometown, and obviously we're there more since Houston will be there more.
- 45:05SPEAKER_08: Um, and all the new members will be all of the sports.
- 45:09SPEAKER_08: So there's no even talk about the football only or basketball-only memberships.
- 45:13SPEAKER_08: That's all out the window.
- 45:14SPEAKER_08: Everyone's joining.
- 45:15SPEAKER_08: I think that's a good move.
- 45:16SPEAKER_08: Um, and one more thing I wanted to include uh during this long paragraph of my mouth here.
- 45:21SPEAKER_08: Um, is I was cracking up at KU KU's 80 and their fans.
- 45:28SPEAKER_08: They apparently they're not very happy with being in the Big 12, and I think that is absolutely laughable.
- 45:34SPEAKER_08: The worst power five team imaginable by a wide margin in the most important sport in college, uh in college athletics is complaining about the money they're making and the prestige they're gonna have.
- 45:46SPEAKER_08: And it really looks like we already have a new drama queen in the conference, and it's the one that shouldn't be saying a single word about anything because they're the albatross around our neck, they are the embarrassment of the Big 12 when it comes to football, like they're the buttons of a joke.
- 46:02SPEAKER_08: Like, if you're saying that, like, oh, you're Kansas level, that's an insult, you know.
- 46:07SPEAKER_08: So it's it's just it's crazy.
- 46:08SPEAKER_08: And they said that on the day that we announced these new schools.
- 46:11SPEAKER_08: 13 schools were celebrating, one was complaining, and I just can't believe the one that was complaining.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's a way to put it.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: Hey, cool, you're a blue blood in basketball.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: That sport is a fourth of the revenue that football is.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, and like you said, absolute embarrassment, uh, by all means that Kansas football has put out there.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, they are a meme of a football program, and they're trying to say, hey, we're pissed off, we're not making more money.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Come on, guys.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: I I like that's ridiculous.
- 46:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you can't just be like, we deserve to be in the Big Ten and put what you do on the field.
- 46:46SPEAKER_08: It's just you need to be grateful to be working with schools that are aligned with each other and not go against that curve.
- 46:52SPEAKER_08: Like, if you want to obviously keep your options open, that's cool.
- 46:55SPEAKER_08: But to go out and publicly saying stuff like this, it's not good for the brand of the Big 12 that you're you're you're pissed about being in of you're all you're doing is bringing that brand value down, which you're concerned about by saying stuff like this.
- 47:07SPEAKER_08: So, you know, I thought KU is gonna be a bit of a leader in this, and I guess it really looks like it's gonna be Texas Attack and maybe so, which has clearly been a leader in this new Big 12 with the expansion and and all that.
- 47:17SPEAKER_08: So I do love that.
- 47:19SPEAKER_08: And if KU needs to just shut up and go with it, um, so uh I just wanted to rip on them for a bit like that because it's just it's time to be positive, you know.
- 47:27SPEAKER_08: This there's literally no point in complaining about it anymore.
- 47:30SPEAKER_08: This is what we're doing for the foreseeable future.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: Sure, absolutely.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: So that's a good point.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: Um, Kansas, you can suck it.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: So uh hope we beat you um in everything.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: So uh I don't know.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Do you have anything else on expansion?
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: I'm excited for it.
- 47:44SPEAKER_08: No, I I am too.
- 47:46SPEAKER_08: It's just it's cool to see something official, official, official, right?
- 47:48SPEAKER_08: Like when we're no longer just saying it's going to be now, we're saying it is.
- 47:52SPEAKER_08: So, and I think everybody's gonna be here by 2023.
- 47:55SPEAKER_08: It's gonna be interesting to see if OU and U2, you OU and UT do indeed stay for those two years.
- 48:01SPEAKER_08: Uh, I think it's unlikely.
- 48:02SPEAKER_08: I think once those enter the conference, they'll it'll open the door for them to go.
- 48:06SPEAKER_08: Um, but it would be hilarious to force them to go to like forcing uh ut to go to Houston would be so funny, or forcing them to go to BYU would be hilarious.
- 48:16SPEAKER_08: So I definitely want to see that happening because I think these teams could absolutely smoke the longhorns in the state they're in.
- 48:21SPEAKER_02: No doubt that would be hilarious.
- 48:23SPEAKER_02: Let's hope UT keeps on that trend of how they looked uh against Arkansas this past week.
- 48:28SPEAKER_08: But I hope that's forever.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: I hope me too, dude.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: Let's let's go go shoot for the stars and be Nebraska.
- 48:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 48:36SPEAKER_09: UT.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: But uh let's move on to the talk and tech breakdown of the week.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: We're gonna we have some more soccer and some more volleyball news.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: Uh soccer went one and one at the Wildcat Invitational, beating Arizona two to one, and then falling to Arizona State, uh three to two.
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: Not sure what we're ranked.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure if the new poll has come out yet, but uh, you know, up and down performance from our ladies.
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: They did score, they were down 3-0 to Arizona State and managed to, you know, score two more goals to make that look a little more manageable.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: But uh, you know, uh losing one to Arizona State, uh, but beating the Wildcats of Arizona, pretty good, pretty good.
- 49:12SPEAKER_08: Absolutely.
- 49:13SPEAKER_08: And there's plenty of games in the season to turn this around, you know.
- 49:15SPEAKER_08: So it I'll be bounced back immediately.
- 49:17SPEAKER_08: So obviously the ladies didn't take it too hard.
- 49:20SPEAKER_08: Um, just excited to see them push on.
- 49:21SPEAKER_08: So it's just one loss, I'll y'all.
- 49:23SPEAKER_08: I mean, we can keep on winning from here.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: So uh up next, they have a game in Lovick against Eastern Washington on the 19th at 1 p.m.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: So it'll probably be broadcast on ESPN Plus.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: If you're around on the 19th at one o'clock, go turn it on and support our ladies.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, and then we're moving on to volleyball.
- 49:40SPEAKER_02: Uh swept uh uh up and down again week for volleyball.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: Uh swept northern Colorado 3-0, and then they fall to the Buffaloes uh of Colorado 3 to 1, and then they swept San Jose State 3-0.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: So uh Buffs Invitational.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: We had a couple ladies make the all-tournament team in Brook Canis and Carrington Jones, uh, both put on some good performances during the Buffs Invitational.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: But uh yeah, man, you know, volleyball uh looking a little better, starting off with a good amount of wins to start the year.
- 50:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah, volleyball involves a lot of games.
- 50:11SPEAKER_08: So I'll take two and one anytime where we're on the road.
- 50:14SPEAKER_08: So that's good for the ladies.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 50:17SPEAKER_02: So up next, they have the Green Wave Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, had to be moved because of Hurricane Ida.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: It is taking place uh this weekend, the 17th through the 18th.
- 50:29SPEAKER_02: They are gonna play UAB in Tulane on the 17th, and then they play Sam Houston State on the 18th.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: So, you know, let's hope to go 3-0 and uh get a few more wins on the schedule.
- 50:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that sounds like 3-0 to me.
- 50:41SPEAKER_08: Let's go get them, ladies.
- 50:42SPEAKER_08: Let's do it.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: So uh that's all we got for the breakdown of this week.
- 50:46SPEAKER_02: Rooting for the ladies as always, but let's talk about FIU because this game is a big one for uh the projection of the rest of the season.
- 50:55SPEAKER_02: Uh, for us fans, we're hoping for a uh a big win this time against a lower tier opponent.
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: Uh, it is taking place Saturday, September 18th at 6 p.m.
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: Another night game, third of the year on ESPN Plus, uh Jones ATT Stadium, Lubbock, Texas.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: Texas Tech currently is a 20 and a half point favorite over FIU.
- 51:15SPEAKER_02: Um, dude, I just want to see I want to see us come out with some ferocity and some anger after last week and absolutely crush the Panthers.
- 51:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I hope this is prove-it mode in this game that you know we we do, we are much, we're so much better than that.
- 51:29SPEAKER_08: We were we are that team that played in the second half against Houston, not this team that played the whole game against SFA.
- 51:35SPEAKER_08: Uh, this is definitely the opponent to get right.
- 51:37SPEAKER_08: So uh they did just uh you uh FIU is coming off a loss against Sunbelt, Texas State.
- 51:43SPEAKER_08: Uh Texas State is not very good.
- 51:45SPEAKER_08: Um it's this should be a dub without question.
- 51:50SPEAKER_08: You and don't please do not make it look close like you did with us, even at Boston.
- 51:53SPEAKER_08: That this should be the last time uh we look that should be the last time we looked sketchy against a lower opponent.
- 51:59SPEAKER_08: So um I I expect nothing but explosiveness this game.
- 52:03SPEAKER_08: That's that's what I see.
- 52:04SPEAKER_08: I need we need explosiveness.
- 52:06SPEAKER_08: We need uh we need them to put the uh pedal down and not act like the game doesn't matter.
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and how about we stop a couple of those fourth downs this time?
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it'd be great uh on the first drive of the game because it seems like every team's first drive has been 20 minutes long, it seems like, but um yeah, uh FIU one and one on the year so far with a win versus liu, who just got destroyed by West Virginia.
- 52:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, and then an overtime loss at home versus Texas State.
- 52:32SPEAKER_02: They are a member of Conference USA.
- 52:34SPEAKER_02: They went 0-5 in 2020.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: Um, they're not good.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: Uh, they're really not.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: They have a couple players on this year's team.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: Uh, running back Devante Price is heavily involved in the offense, had 23 carries versus Texas State.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, and then Singleton and Chambers uh are the two receivers to watch.
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: They have a senior quarterback in uh in Max Bortenschlager, I think yeah, yeah.
- 52:58SPEAKER_02: No, what a name right there.
- 52:59SPEAKER_02: Um, seems serviceable uh for a lower-level team, but um, you know, we just gotta take care of business.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: This should not be an issue.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: The talent gap is there.
- 53:10SPEAKER_02: Uh, we just need to come out with with some ferocity.
- 53:12SPEAKER_08: It's hard to preview this team for a reason.
- 53:14SPEAKER_08: So that means we must freaking crush them, okay?
- 53:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah, even with a badass quarterback last name like Borton Schlager.
- 53:21SPEAKER_08: Now that's I'm all over that.
- 53:22SPEAKER_08: I would if that was a tech quarterback, I'm in, bro.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: We're in on the schlag.
- 53:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah, we're on the we're in on the B Schlag, bro.
- 53:30SPEAKER_08: Like, absolutely.
- 53:32SPEAKER_08: But I'm gonna be watching that guy all game and be like, all right, he's got a cool name.
- 53:36SPEAKER_08: Um, but uh, so you think with all the success on fourth down, do you think that's gonna be like in the playbook of every single team we play now?
- 53:42SPEAKER_08: Like, all right, let's just go in and go for it on fourth down against the Red Raiders.
- 53:44SPEAKER_08: You think that's gonna be a thing?
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: I guess, I guess, because if you're gonna allow what were they?
- 53:49SPEAKER_02: I think Houston got four of them, and then uh Stephen F.
- 53:52SPEAKER_02: Austin got five of eight on fourth down against us.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's just it's like, come on, please.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: We just need a few fourth down stops because it's ridiculous that Stephen F.
- 54:04SPEAKER_02: Austin is just they they tried eight of them on fourth, they had eight fourth downs that they went for it, and they got five of them.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: That's ridiculous.
- 54:12SPEAKER_08: They were feeling big because we let them now.
- 54:14SPEAKER_08: We just we just can't let them feel big here with the Panthers.
- 54:17SPEAKER_08: So that's it's long story short, you gotta crush them.
- 54:20SPEAKER_08: You have no excuse, you have no excuse not to.
- 54:22SPEAKER_08: If you don't crush them, then it's just like uh man, going into the season.
- 54:27SPEAKER_08: It's just that the hopes go low, and we're pretty uh we're an optimistic podcast, but these are just games that we shouldn't even have to even worry about.
- 54:34SPEAKER_08: Um, so but it as fans with the crowds we show right now, it's we deserve better than that.
- 54:39SPEAKER_08: So it's give the give this home crowd, it's gonna be 6 p.m.
- 54:42SPEAKER_08: again.
- 54:43SPEAKER_08: Uh, give them a good, fun game, all right.
- 54:45SPEAKER_08: Make sure make them give them fireworks.
- 54:47SPEAKER_08: That's what I'm saying.
- 54:48SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I mean, and I mean, good for the university for putting on a party at the tailgate for these lower level games.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: They invited DJ Shaq Diesel to last week's game, uh, to to put on a performance at the tailgate.
- 55:05SPEAKER_02: And man, I gotta say, uh, you know, you miss Lubbock all the time, but you really miss Lubbock when you get freaking DJ Shaq Diesel coming in to play a pregame show.
- 55:15SPEAKER_08: I can't believe he took you that long to bring up that the Shaqdis went to Lubbock, man.
- 55:19SPEAKER_08: And you freaking you freaking love that, man.
- 55:21SPEAKER_08: So but who doesn't, honestly, right?
- 55:24SPEAKER_08: Um, and it was so cool to see the the Texas Tech basketball team be front and center the whole time in the party.
- 55:30SPEAKER_08: Uh, I love that, man.
- 55:32SPEAKER_08: And you're right, that was so cool to see.
- 55:34SPEAKER_08: And just just get get people excited about these lower level games, especially after these years and years and years of disappointment.
- 55:40SPEAKER_08: You gotta do something to get the fans excited.
- 55:41SPEAKER_08: That was a good move, in my opinion.
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: And I think uh this coming week they have Waka Flacca coming in to do another pregame show.
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: So Tech's got it right with who they got coming to Lubbock, they're gonna show out.
- 55:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's I I love it.
- 55:55SPEAKER_08: I think I think the uh the Red Red Alley and all the the green space concerts are a great idea, you know.
- 56:00SPEAKER_08: It's at least just having the background of the tailgates and stuff.
- 56:03SPEAKER_08: So people can be drinking their beers, partying, and just getting the getting their minds right for the game.
- 56:07SPEAKER_08: So no matter who you're playing, I think it's I think it's great because that's I that's what I miss the most about Lubbock is our tailgates.
- 56:13SPEAKER_08: And I I wish every Saturday I wish I'd be getting up at 6 a.m.
- 56:16SPEAKER_08: and put icing down the cooler and going to uh the the the parking lots on Texas Tech University, you know what I mean?
- 56:22SPEAKER_08: So uh that I agree, man.
- 56:24SPEAKER_08: They're doing it right over there right now.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: No doubt, no doubt.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: So uh I am gonna catch you off surprise.
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: I'll give my score prediction first so it gives you a little time to think about it this time.
- 56:34SPEAKER_02: I my score prediction for this game, I'm not gonna be too high.
- 56:37SPEAKER_02: I predicted 58 to 10 last week, and it was definitely not that.
- 56:42SPEAKER_02: So, what I'm going to predict for FIU, I'm gonna predict a 35 to 13 win for Texas Tech.
- 56:49SPEAKER_02: Uh, and this is being cautious because we should crush this team with our talent level, but I'm going to take it back a little bit and just have us win by a few scores.
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: Uh, but let's hope we win by more.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: What do you got for me?
- 57:03SPEAKER_08: All right, man.
- 57:04SPEAKER_08: I I'm feeling I'm feeling pretty big again.
- 57:06SPEAKER_08: Uh I think we're gonna ride.
- 57:07SPEAKER_08: I think we don't stay low, going to beat them 45 to 16.
- 57:11SPEAKER_08: Um, I think we do come out with some offense firepower, involve more people in the offense, and uh Tyler Shuck goes crazy um and chose a little preview of what we're gonna watch for this season because this is gonna be the time to do it.
- 57:22SPEAKER_08: I hope that's what the coaches are saying in the locker rooms.
- 57:24SPEAKER_08: So I I I don't have fear.
- 57:26SPEAKER_08: I'm not gonna let the Stephen F.
- 57:28SPEAKER_08: Austin game shadow over this one.
- 57:30SPEAKER_08: I think it's a new day, and I think we're gonna crush them.
- 57:33SPEAKER_02: Let's hope so, my dude.
- 57:35SPEAKER_02: Because I really need this right now as a Texas Tech fan.
- 57:39SPEAKER_02: I don't want to keep feeling like I did after last Saturday's game.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, let's take care of business and get us some momentum rolling in before UT.
- 57:48SPEAKER_08: Absolutely, man.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: That's how I'm feeling right now.
- 57:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no doubt.
- 57:53SPEAKER_02: So uh we're gonna end it off with some songs of the week.
- 57:56SPEAKER_02: We do not have a theme, we're just kind of gonna go with what we feel.
- 57:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, we're just gonna, you know, freestyle it a little, go with a little weird song of the week.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: So you go ahead, Tristan.
- 58:06SPEAKER_02: What's your song of the week?
- 58:07SPEAKER_08: All right, for my song of the week, I'm gonna showcase a proud Texas Tech alum.
- 58:12SPEAKER_08: He is Slade Culture.
- 58:14SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna go with one of his new singles, Hey Mary.
- 58:17SPEAKER_08: It's a cool country rock song.
- 58:19SPEAKER_08: I like his vibe.
- 58:20SPEAKER_08: Um, and he kind of brings that Texas rock, country dirt sound uh out of out of the hub city.
- 58:26SPEAKER_08: So yeah, proud alum, gotta showcase him because that's who we love around here.
- 58:30SPEAKER_08: Hey Mary, Slade Culture.
- 58:33SPEAKER_05: The worst one in Amasaka for him.
- 58:37SPEAKER_05: Never make up that man.
- 58:40SPEAKER_02: Hey Mary.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: Another one that I uh I you know I've heard the name before, never listened to any of his music.
- 58:48SPEAKER_02: So that'll be one that I'll have to give a listen to as well.
- 58:51SPEAKER_02: Um, my song of the week, uh, you know, it was it was like you mentioned earlier, uh 9-11 was this past week.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: Uh, it's a you know, very uh a time in in America that we all you know come together and there was a lot of good tributes that were put out across all sports this whole weekend.
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: It was it was really cool to see.
- 59:11SPEAKER_02: Um, my song of the week is Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning by Alan Jackson.
- 59:16SPEAKER_02: It's a song specifically about 9-11.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: Uh it's a beautiful song, it's a great rendition of of that day.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: Uh and and you know, really just kind of reminds me of of everybody coming together.
- 59:27SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of a lot of people, you know, that that have a lot to say about a lot of things in America.
- 59:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, but it's nice every once in a while when we can come together over certain things.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: And I feel like this song kind of kind of you know just emphasizes that, you know.
- 59:41SPEAKER_02: So that's my song of the week.
- 59:42SPEAKER_02: Where were you when the world stopped turning?
- 59:45SPEAKER_06: I remember this from when I was young.
- 59:49SPEAKER_06: Faith, hope, and love are some good things he gave us.
- 59:54SPEAKER_06: And the greatest is love.
- 59:58SPEAKER_08: Great, timely pick, man.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_08: And I feel the same way.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_08: It's so cool to see everybody come together as Americans and nothing more than Americans on that day.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_08: Uh, and that's just it's the one thing that we can do.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_08: You know, we we we remember the who those were lost, and just just reinforces our resolve as a country.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_08: So good pick and great pick from the great Alan Jackson.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_08: So can't go wrong with literally anything in his library.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_08: Nice job.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: No doubt, no doubt.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: So uh, all right, man, we got to end it off this pod.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, we give you a little bit of confidence.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: I know it was negative to start off that pod, but we need to rant a little bit and uh just get some get some emotions that we've been holding in for the last couple days out.
